Well begun… so goes the saying. And maybe this is the reason why the Porto Rotondo Yacht Club has decided to focus so much on sailing schools for the youngest. About three hundred children between the age of 8 and 14 attend these courses every year. They either come to Sardinia for the holidays or are residents.

«We have Optimists and Lasers, and we are very proud because this year two of our athletes participated in the selections for the Italian and World Optimist Championship» , Said Roberto Azzi , President of the Yacht Club. Azzi has just finished his first three-year mandate, but his results were so highly appreciated that the president and board of directors have been confirmed for the next three-year period as well.

Not only young kids, captained by instructor Camillo Zucconi , strong with his experience in the America’s Cup and the Route du Rhum, but also prestigious sailors represent the Club. Such as Andrea Mura , the ocean navigator who always participates in regattas under the banner of the Porto Rotondo Yacht Club. So sports from a very young age, but not just sailing.

The Club’s activities have multiplied in recent years. Today, there is even a kayaking school, headed by ocean crossing champion, Francesco Gambella , as well as a “Fishing Division” which just this year has promoted as many as seven offshore fishing competitions: three for the youngest members, and four for professionals.

Roberto Azzi has not only been acting as the administrator of the club, in the sense that he did not settle for governing what already existed, but also worked hard to increase the number of members and activities offered by the Club. His main concern has been increasing the number of people who attended the Club regularly.

And he succeeded in his endeavour by means of a policy involving twinning programmes with other prestigious clubs all over the world : Cape Town, Punta del Este, Plymouth, and Cuba, to mention but a few. These clubs even include high-altitude Clubs located in the Swiss mountains, which thanks to the twinning with Porto Rotondo, regularly participate in the activities, regattas, and general life of the club nested in the heart of Costa Smeralda.

The Porto Rotondo Yacht Club has practically been carrying out a series of activities to promote tourism, which have had the beneficial effect of extending the summer season , since many of the members of the twinned Yacht Clubs now come to Porto Rotondo even in low season. A good part of the success is due to the location, but also to services that are able to satisfy the needs of the club’s members, which are now once again more than 200.

Yoga, pilates, wellness – the Club House is always buzzing with activities, from the early hours of the morning. One of the many perks that Club members can enjoy is the cuisine . The staff, from the chef to the maître, is entirely local and has been trained within the Club House of the Yacht Club. Even the food receives particular attention; it is entirely short-chain – actually extremely short. The fresh pasta comes from the inland and the kitchen proposes dishes and wines of the Sardinian tradition.

Lo yacht club  Porto Rotondo  è stato fondato nel 1985 dai fratelli  Delle Rose . Due anni dopo nel 1987, viene incorporato nello Yacht club costa smeralda, di proprietà dell’ Aga Khan . Dieci anni dopo, per questioni sia di prestigio che di campanilismo il club torna ad essere indipendente. Ogni due anni viene organizzata la manifestazione “Vele d’epoca a Porto Rotondo”, che vede la partecipazione di oltre 50 yacht dalle dimensioni e dalle caratteristiche più disparate. Alla regata partecipano infatti sia yacht d’epoca come il “Cambria” e il “Lulworth” entrambi degli anni 20, e yacht classici anni 70 come “l’angneta”, appartenuto all’avvocato Agnelli.

Ma non mancano ovviamente i nuovi scintillanti yacht moderni, che vedono nella manifestazione una importante vetrina internazionale. Di assoluto interesse è la sede del club, costruita interamente in legno frassino che avvolge il visitatore in una calda atmosfera marinara. Di rilievo c’e anche la scuola di vela che si piazza al secondo posto in Italia come numero di iscritti e professionalità.

Porto Rotondo , frazione del comune di Olbia , è assieme a Porto Cervo una delle località simbolo della Costa Smeralda .

D’estate la cittadina diventa il red carpet estivo del jet-set italiano ed internazionale , ospite degli splendidi resort affacciati sul porto. Il porto stesso e tutte le proprietà attorno sono state costruite all’inizio degli anni ’60 per volere di Luigi e Nicolò Donà delle Rose , esponenti di un’importante famiglia veneziana, ed altri imprenditori.

La struttura di Porto Rotondo è ricalcata in parte su quella veneziana proprio per omaggiare la città dei Donà delle Rose e non è un caso che ci sia una “ Piazzetta San Marco ”.

Tra resort ed immobili privati, Porto Rotondo arriva ad ospitare un picco di 32.000 persone nel mese di agosto, confermandosi come una delle località turistiche più gettonate d’Italia.

Il periodo migliore per visitare Porto Rotondo è quello estivo, da Giugno ad Agosto, per godersi al meglio la vita da spiaggia. Agosto è in assoluto il mese più affollato e anche quello più movimentato per quanto riguarda eventi mondani e vita notturna. Anche Maggio e Settembre sono buoni mesi, anche se più adatti alle escursioni, da evitare nei mesi più caldi, che al mare.

Spiagge di Porto Rotondo

Porto Rotondo vanta alcune tra le spiagge più belle della Sardegna , che veramente poco hanno da invidiare agli atolli tropicali. Qui potrete passare una vacanza indimenticabile tra spiagge alla moda oppure più appartate, tutte con sabbia bianca e circondata da rocce di granito e boschi verdi e ombreggiati, facendo il bagno in acque trasparenti e pulitissime.

Il territorio intorno a Porto Rotondo è una vera e propria gemma e si articola su tre piccole penisole , Punta Nuraghe, Punta Volpe e Punta Lada, ricoperte da macchia mediterranea e bagnate da un mare cristallino dal caratteristico color smeraldo. Da non perdere la spiaggia di Punta Nuraghe, la spiaggia dei Sassi, la spiaggia Shirley Bassey, la spiaggia di Punta Asfodelo, spiaggia Ira e la grande spiaggia di Marinella.

A breve distanza inoltre, si trovano le belle spiagge di Golfo Aranci .

Spiaggia di Marinella

La spiaggia di riferimento per Porto Rotondo. Situata tra Porto Rotondo e Golfo Aranci, vicino all’omonimo villaggio, la spiaggia Marinella è lunga 800 metri.

Si trova a 3 chilometri dalla spiaggia di Ira e di fronte, a nord-est, si possono ammirare le isole di Soffi e Mortorio, distanti 8 chilometri dalla costa. Ci sono vari hotel nella zona ma la Marinella rimane incontaminata ed è circondata dalla tipica vegetazione mediterranea, con diversi sentieri che conducono alla spiaggia.

La spiaggia della Marinella è molto adatta alle famiglie con bambini e protetta dal vento.

Spiaggia Ira

Spiaggia Ira è famosa tra le celebrità di tutto il mondo ed è stata nominata così in onore di Ira von Furstenberg : infatti, la spiaggia deve il nome alla vicina villa della famosa attrice.

Si trova tra il Golfo di Porto Rotondo e Cugnana, vicino ai piccoli piani di Punta Nuraghe, è una delle più frequentate di Porto Rotondo ed una delle più grandi, grazie ai suoi 25 metri di larghezza media. Vicino ad essa c’è la più piccola Spiaggia Rudargia : entrambe presentano sabbie bianche e acque cristalline, circondate da rocce sconfinate e dal tipico verde mediterraneo.

La spiaggia Ira si affaccia a nord-ovest, offrendo viste meravigliose della baia di Porto Rotondo e dell’isola Soffi a 5 chilometri dalla costa di Punta Nuraghe, e dispone di numerosi servizi tra cui un bar, un ristorante, un hotel e nelle vicinanze anche diverse scuole di sub.

Vela, windsurf e altre attrezzature per sport acquatici possono essere affittati in loco. La spiaggia Ira è adatta per famiglie con bambini, in quanto le sue acque sono poco profonde, ma anche per i turisti in cerca di relax o per chi ama lo snorkeling.

Punta Nuraghe

Dall’altra parte di Spiaggia Ira, a circa 1,5 chilometri ad ovest di Porto Rotondo, si trova spiaggia Punta Nuraghe , nota anche come Spiaggia Contro Ira .

È una piccola spiaggia lunga circa 80 metri, e si affaccia a ovest, con vista sul Golfo Cugnana, sulla piccola Marina Cala dei Sardi e sulla più grande Marina di Portisco a nord-est.

Punta Nurgahe è completamente attrezzata: dispone di un parcheggio che dista solo 80 metri dalla spiaggia vera e propria, e sono disponibili sedie a sdraio e ombrelloni, oltre che la possibilità di noleggiare canoe. Ci sono diversi hotel, ristoranti e pizzerie nelle vicinanze, e ciò rende spiaggia Punta Nuraghe ideale per le famiglie, grazie anche alle sue acque poco profonde e sicure.

Spiaggia dei Sassi

A poche centinaia di metri a est del porto di Porto Rotondo, in direzione di Punta Volpe, troverete Spiaggia dei Sassi . Questa spiaggia si affaccia a nord-ovest e ha una lunghezza di circa 100 metri, e si compone di sabbia fine e di piccole pietre, circondata da colline.

Il fondale è poco profondo e la spiaggia è dotata di ottimi servizi, tra cui un bar e un ristorante. È una piccola spiaggia accogliente, adatta a famiglie con bambini.

Cosa vedere a Porto Rotondo

Sebbene sia una destinazione creata dal nulla nel secolo scorso, a Porto Rotondo ci sono alcune strutture meritevoli di una visita. La vita cittadina si concentra nelle caratteristiche Piazza Quadra e Piazza San Marco , quest’ultima ideata a forma circolare dallo scultore Andrea Cascella, e intorno alla chiesa di San Lorenzo. Lungo le vie del paese, che ricordano quelle tortuose e strette dei borghi antichi, si trovano prestigiose gioiellerie, botteghe artigiane e boutique di grandi firme.

Marina di Porto Rotondo

Porto Rotondo, come suggerisce il nome, ha una forma rotondeggiante ed è un vero esempio di opulenza e design italiano. Il suo porto ha 800 posti barca e vi sono ormeggiati yacht e barche lussuosissime.

Lo Yacht Club Porto Rotondo , attivo dal 1985, è uno dei più importanti del Mediterraneo e vanta manifestazioni sportive esclusive come il Big Game , relativo alla pesca d’altura. Fondato anch’esso dai fratelli Luigi e Nicolò Donà delle Rose, il “guidone” del Club vede il veneziano Leone di San Marco posto sulla Croce Rossa simbolo di Genova, a ricordare anche il legame con lo Yacht Club Italiano del capoluogo ligure.

Piacevole la passeggiata sulle banchine del porto, fiancheggiando i numerosi ristoranti e locali che animano Porto Rotondo giorno e notte.

Catena Alimentare di Emmanuel Chapalain

E’ stata completata nel 2016 dall’artista Emmanuel Chapalain la passeggiata che va dalla chiesa al porto, abbellita con la rappresentazione della catena alimentare marina e dei suoi pesci, realizzata con pietre locali.

Lungo la strada, ufficialmente denominata Via Belli , vi sono rappresentati squali, tonni, pesci spada che nuotano tra le onde. Gli occhi di alcuni pesci si illuminano di sera per la sorpresa dei più piccoli che ci camminano sopra.

Chiesa di San Lorenzo

Completata nel 2008, la Chiesa di San Lorenzo ha una connotazione molto moderna e originale che racchiude il lavoro di diversi artisti. L’ideazione e la realizzazione sono state curate dagli scultori Andrea Cascella e Mario Ceroli.

L’interno della chiesa si presenta come un’enorme carena di nave rovesciata da dove sporgono centinaia di figure sagomate in legno, opera del Ceroli, a rappresentare personaggi storici di Porto Rotondo.

Particolare anche la pavimentazione davanti alla chiesa, dove sono raffigurati i profili degli ultimi sei papi, scolpiti in marmi di colore diverso l’uno dall’altro. La gradinata che porta alla chiesa rende il complesso architettonico tutt’uno con la Piazzetta San Marco.

Immersioni ed escursioni in barca

Il mare attorno a Porto Rotondo è così pulito e cristallino da sembrare quello di un’ isola caraibica . L’acqua bassa e trasparente è adattissima per lo snorkeling ma, allontanandosi in barca e andando più al largo, è perfetta anche per le immersioni in profondità. Sono molte le agenzie che offrono attività subacquee ed escursioni in barca.

La Costa Smeralda non è solo mare e per apprezzare a pieno le sue bellezze naturali, non c’è miglior modo che quello di praticare trekking nell’entroterra .

La vegetazione tipica di questa zona della Sardegna è composta da oleandri, mirti, mimosa, ginepri e altre piante tipiche della macchia mediterranea che crescono rigogliose anche tra le ville ed i resort. Le escursioni sono consigliate soprattutto nei mesi dove regna il bel tempo ma non fa troppo caldo, come maggio e settembre.

Come arrivare a Porto Rotondo

Senza esitazione alcuna, il miglior modo per arrivare a Porto Rotondo è quello di prendere un traghetto o un aereo per Olbia, e poi procedere in direzione nord fino a destinazione. La distanza che separa le due località è inferiore ai 20 chilometri, prima lungo la strada statale SS125 e poi proseguendo lungo la strada provinciale SP73 in località Piliezzu.

E’ possibile arrivare a Porto Rotondo anche con i mezzi pubblici : la linea di bus che collega Porto Istana a Porto Rotondo ferma a Olbia, in via Mameli a due passi dal centro e dalla stazione ferroviaria: la durata del viaggio è di circa 35 minuti.

One of the most important places for national and international tourism. It is a jewel in the crown, along with  Porto Cervo , forthe Gallura area, on the north-eastern coast of Sardinia. Porto Rotondo is a district in  Olbia , a few kilometres from  GolfoAranci ,  Palau  and  Arzachena . In 500 hectares of territory, between the gulfs of Cugnana and Marinella, with a highly-equipped tourist port with 800 moorings for boat, there are about a thousand residents in winter. In the summer, there are sometimes as many as 30 thousand inhabitants in the villas, timeshare homes and residences built around an initial nucleus of the village, dating back to 1964. It was started by the Venetians, Luigi and NicolòDonàdalle Rose, as part of an initiative undertaken by a group of entrepreneurs. This is where its architecture, which decidedly resembles the structure of Venice, comes from and, not surprisingly, the main square is Piazzetta San Marco. Along with the magnificent residences, there are also numerous luxury and extra-luxury hotels.

Poltu Rutundu  (in Gallura dialect) is considered one of the most ‘in’ places in Sardinia and the whole of Italy: it is easy to encounter famous personalities, especially in the summer, at nightclubs. Big names from the world of high finance and show business personalities choose it as a summer residence.

It is generally considered a  Nord Sardegna  locality, even though it is technically not part of it, based on what was established by the Nord Sardegna Consortium. This has led to a certain rivalry between the Porto Rotondo‘rotondini’ and the Porto Cervo‘cervini’, each wanting to be leader of the most renowned locality.

In Porto Rotondo, every year, at the end of August, the  Big Game  is held. This is a deep-sea fishing sports event, among the most important and spectacular in the Mediterranean. The Porto Rotondo Yacht Club, officially established in 1985, has become one of the most important at national level, maintaining a strong link with the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa.

The Marina dii Porto Rotondo, since the first years of the 60s, has succeeded in getting both the approval and the esteem of the gotha of the nautical international tourism, thanks to the easy mooring and also to the wonderful surrounding landscape, that contributed to transform it in one of the most coveted destination of the Mediterranean sea.

Even the ancient Romans used this beautiful natural port for their trades. The columns carved more than 2,000 years ago and positioned at the entrance of the port testify. A long history which in recent times has coincided with the Gallura tourism's growth.

Built by the Conti Donà delle Rose ,the Marina di Porto Rotondo coincides with the tourist development of Gallura and Sardinia, and, during the years, has offered a more and more available moorings and assistance services. During the 80s, the Marina di Porto Rotondo was taken by the Ciga group ,and, in the first half of the 90s the estate has been taken over by Molinas Group, event that gained the attention of the domestic and international press, owing to the fact that it was the first time that a Sardinian entrepreneurial group took the legal ownership of a facility that had always been managed by entrepreneurs with different origin.

Molinas starts to restore of the facilities and the extant installation, and also to increase the number of moorings, above all those for boats longer then 30 mt. allowing to host those that, in some periods of the year, are compelled to be at anchor owing to the lack of berthing; thanks to these improvements, Molinas obtained the praise of the press ( by instance the prestigious Yacht and Sail , that considered the Marina di Porto Rotondo one of the best marina in Europe ) for the accuracy and the quality of the offered services . Also the variety of the sporting events referred to the Marina and to the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo has been improved ; all the sporting contests started training the club " Italia", that made a good competition during the America Cup in Freemantle ( Australia 1987). After a period in association with the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda,, nowadays the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo is the centre of some international contests, among which: - the "Perini Navi Cup" ,that, every two years ,gathers the more prestigious crafts manufactured by the homonymous shipyard, gathering created for the first time in the year 2006. - the sailing race " Audi invitation", that, every year promotes contests of FARR40 and TP52 , in which, as prescribed by the rules, the shipowner has to be the helmsman during the sailing races. Thanks to this rule, very important persons, as H.M. The Sailing School of the Amateur Sports Association Yacht Club Porto Rotondo is regularly affiliated with the Italian Sailing Federation, and its fundamental purpose is to promote sailing education and practice and to bring as many young people as possible to this extraordinary sport.

For a different holiday, which will allow you to sail in the beautiful Gulf of Congianus, a magnificent natural amphitheatre, surrounded by the beaches of Liscia Ruja, Rena Bianca, Ira Beach and the fascinating islands of Soffi and Mortorio, giving you the opportunity to spend some unforgettable moments.

2024 Program

The Sailing School will start on Monday 26th June and will end on Friday 30th August 2024.  It will be weekly, from Monday to Friday (5 days), from 09:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Conditions for joining the course

You must be 6 years old, able to swim easily, in good health (certified by a doctor), and accept the conditions of enrolment and the school regulations.

Levels of the Courses

1st BASIC LEVEL . Discover sailing . Try sailing . Learn to sail 2nd BASIC LEVEL: . Intermediate . Advanced FINISHING: . This is only accessible after the evaluation of the instructor.

Costs of the Courses

DISCOVER SAILING - OPTIMIST CLASS: € 300,00 + FIV (Italian Sailing Federation) membership card for the complete course (5 lessons); Boat used: OPTIMIST DISCOVER SAILING - LASER BAHIA: 15/18 years - Over 18. € 300,00 + FIV (Italian Sailing Federation) membership card for the complete course (5 lessons); Boat used: LASER BAHIA FINISHING: € 350,00 FIV (Italian Sailing Federation) membership card for the complete course (5 lessons); Boats used: LASER BAHIA (OPTIMIST FOR THE UNDER 15's) REGATTA: € 390,00 + FIV (Italian Sailing Federation) membership card for the complete course (5 lessons); Boats used: LASER BAHIA

To take part in all the courses you need the FIV card (Italian Sailing Federation). For the issue of the FIV card you must provide a medical certificate that shows a healthy and robust constitution valid for the current year as well as the tax code. Registration for the FIV can be done at the Club's Sports Secretariat.
