Gustavia Harbor in St. Barths
I make it an annual tradition to visit St. Barths during the holidays, and this year the island is looking the best it has in many years. Lush green landscapes, crystal clear and very warm waters, clean beaches, and famed resorts opening with stunning new additions. Locals tell me the hurricane that devastated the island ultimately led to much-needed improvements with infrastructure, and magically the island has turned green again.

The legendary superyacht showdown, started early with several high profile billionaires already anchored outside of Gustavia and neighboring St. Maarten, and Antigua. Many will stay throughout Christmas on the island of Antigua and then party with the traditional fireworks New Years Eve celebration in St Barths.
Superyacht showdown in St.Barths
Many of the resorts and hot spots, including one of my favorite restaurants Bonito, hosted New Year’s Eve parties, and iconic Nikki Beach offered superstar DJ Kygo. However, it is aboard the superyachts where the rich and famous ended up partying into the wee hours.

By Editorial Team 16 June 2014
Some exciting news has been announced that, following her launch in 2013, the impressive 73m/239’ superyacht ODESSA II is now available for charter.
Built by Nobiskrug to international acclaim, ODESSA II was originally part of a five superyacht order commissioned to the German shipyard for a repeat client. Due to the economic downturn three of the builds were cancelled, leaving ODESSA II and her sistership PLAN B , which is also available for charter, to be completed consecutively.
With exterior lines by Focus Yacht Design and beautiful interior styling by H2 Yacht Design, she was recognised with a nomination in the prestigious 2014 World Superyacht Awards ‘Best Displacement Motor Yacht of 1,300GT to 1,999GT’ category.
Working in collaboration with the New York-based designers Haynes-Roberts, H2 have created interior living areas that encompass an elegant New Hampton style. Accommodation is offered for 12 guests six staterooms including a full beam master suite with panoramic views and a general layout that has been focused on relaxed family vacations in a secure environment.
ODESSA II will be available for charter alongside her stunning 10m/32’ tender which was custom-built by the Hacker Boat Company in New York.
Her extensive line-up of luxury amenities include an open-air cinema, fully-equipped sundeck gym, children’s games room and a beach club as well a very generous outdoor dining and sunbathing areas.
ODESSA II will be available for charter alongside her stunning 10m/32’ tender which was custom-built by the Hacker Boat Company in New York. Reaching speeds of 38 knots, the tender seats up to 12 passengers in comfort and even features an aft sunbathing area and a swim platform.

Captain james ollemans reflects on the state of the charter market during the myba charter show….
Having completed a significant refit over the winter, 50m MY Odessa was a main attraction at the MYBA Charter Show. When Captain James Ollemans rejoined Odessa two years ago, she was already a very well-established and busy charter yacht. At the time, the boat was doing 11 weeks of charter during the Mediterranean season, which increased to 13 weeks the following year. Looking towards this summer, the boat already has nine weeks booked, meaning the crew is likely to have an even busier season ahead.
Captain Ollemans attributes Odessa ’s popularity on the charter market to her family-orientated design and flexible cabin arrangements, but also to the programme’s ongoing investment into attracting, and keeping, the right crew. “The crew are young and energetic and the owner recognises the need to keep them,” he explains. “We offer packages to the crew to build their skills and experience, which in turn ensures that they are contributing to the boat.”
Captain Ollemans also believes that their busy season ahead is partly down to certain trends in the charter market. “There are fewer last minute bookings and we are seeing clients booking their charters early,” he comments. “And people are still drawn to the South of France as a destination.”
Like many others in the sector, Captain Ollemans has observed a decline in charter activity in the Caribbean. “While there will always be a market for charters in St Barths, I think the market has started moving towards South-East Asia as the region opens up more to superyachts,” he explains.
Regarding the future of the charter market, there are certain barriers that Captain Ollemans foresees having an impact, which might lead to fewer charter yachts.
“There seems to be a lot of new boats coming onto the market but the pool of charter clients is not growing at the same rate,” he considers. “This, combined with increasing tax legislation, means that there are not the same benefits to being a commercially-registered yacht as there used to be. A privately-run vessel is much easier for both captain and owner, so I think a lot of charter yachts will be turning private.”

Christensen superyacht Odessa now for sale with Burgess and Merle Wood
The 48.76 metre motor yacht Odessa has had a central agency change and is now jointly listed for sale with Burgess and Merle Wood & Associates .
Odessa was built by US superyacht yard Christensen to ABS class with delivery in 2009 and is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful Christensens ever built. Her ultra modern, minimalist interior by Cristina Bernardeau was awarded the Best Interior Design award by ShowBoats International in 2010.
MCA compliant, accommodation is for up to 13 guests in six cabins with a crisp interior comprising a mix of warm, vertical grain walnut joinery, wide-plank walnut hardwood floors and neutral marbles. All cabins are equipped with LCD televisions and have full en suite bathroom facilities. Textiles and furnishings by Armani Casa are at once highly comfortable and sophisticated.
The massive exterior deck spaces and generous common areas give the impression that the yacht is much larger than her length. Yet, at just under 500 gross tons, operating costs are more in line with much smaller vessels. Other features include the ability to carry an EC 135 helicopter and an elevator that serves all four decks.
Available to view at the Palm Beach yacht show, Odessa is asking $27.9 million.

10 of the most impressive superyachts owned by billionaires
From a sailing yacht owned by a russian billionaire industrialist to the luxury launch of the patek philippe ceo, here are the best billionaire-owned boats on the water….
Words: Jonathan Wells
There’s something about billionaires and big boats . Whether they’re superyachts or megayachts, men with money love to splash out on these sizeable sea-going giants. And that all began in 1954 — with the big dreams of Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis.
Onassis, keen to keep his luxury lifestyle afloat when at sea, bought Canadian anti-submarine frigate HMCS Stormont after World War II. He spent millions turning it into an opulent super yacht, named it after his daughter — and the Christina O kicked off a trend among tycoons. To this day, the world’s richest men remain locked in an arms race to build the biggest, fastest, most impressive superyacht of all. Here are 10 of our favourites…
Eclipse, owned by Roman Abramovich
Built by: Blohm+Voss of Hamburg, with interiors and exteriors designed by Terence Disdale. Launched in 2009, it cost $500 million (the equivalent of £623 million today).
Owned by: Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, the owner of private investment company Millhouse LLC and owner of Chelsea Football Club. His current net worth is $17.4 billion.
Key features: 162.5 metres in length / 9 decks / Top speed of 22 knots / Two swimming pools / Disco hall / Mini submarine / 2 helicopter pads / 24 guest cabins
Sailing Yacht A, owned by Andrey Melnichenko
Built by: Nobiskrug, a shipyard on the Eider River in Germany. The original idea came from Jacques Garcia, with interiors designed by Philippe Starck and a reported price tag of over $400 million.
Owned by: Russian billionaire industrialist Andrey Melnichenko, the main beneficiary of both the fertiliser producing EuroChem Group and the coal energy company SUEK. Though his current net worth is $18.7 billion, Sailing Yacht A was seized in Trieste on 12 March 2022 due to the EU’s sanctions on Russian businessmen.
Key features: 119 metres in length / 8 decks / Top speed of 21 knots / Freestanding carbon-fibre rotating masts / Underwater observation pod / 14 guests
Symphony, owned by Bernard Arnault
Built by: Feadship, the fabled shipyard headquartered in Haarlem in The Netherlands. With an exterior designed by Tim Heywood, it reportedly cost around $150 million to construct.
Owned by: French billionaire businessman and art collector Bernard Arnault. Chairman and chief executive of LVMH, the world’s largest luxury goods company, his current net worth is $145.8 billion.

The superyacht world is speculating that Mark Zuckerberg just bought this 118-meter boat
- The 118-meter superyacht Launchpad made her maiden voyage last week.
- The yacht world is speculating that her owner is Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
- Here's what we know about the luxury vessel.
In the world of superyachts , privacy is the most valuable asset. It can be next to impossible to discern the details of a superyacht transaction — and that's particularly true if the vessel in question is worth nine figures.
Yet some in the boat blogging world are speculating that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the new owner of Launchpad, a megayacht currently moored in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after she made her maiden voyage from Gibraltar to St Maarten last week. Launchpad clocks in at 118 meters long, about nine meters shorter than Jeff Bezos' superyacht Koru .
The transaction could not be confirmed, with yacht world insiders declining to share what they know and representatives for Zuckerberg not responding to a request for comment from Business Insider. In the past, reports about Zuckerberg owning superyacht Ulysses have proven false.

"It is Feadship's standard policy to never divulge any information about our yachts with reference to ownership, costs, or delivery, etc," Feadship, the ship's builder, wrote to BI. "Whether it is an 18-meter Feadship from the 1960s or a 118-meter Feadship from the 21st century, we do not share private information."
But Zuckerberg's name has been connected to Launchpad for a few months now, beginning in December when reports swirled that he visited Feadship's shipyard in the Netherlands.
Then, earlier in March, yachting bloggers like eSysman SuperYachts and Autoevolution started speculating that he officially snagged the boat, originally built for a sanctioned Russian businessman, at a $300 million price tag. (While that's a seemingly huge amount, it's still less than 0.2% of Zuckerberg's $177 billion net worth.)
Another clue that might point to US ownership is that the yacht bears the flag of the Marshall Islands, a US territory and commonplace for American buyers to register their ships, according to public marine tracking.
If Zuckerberg were to have bought Launchpad, he would join a cohort of superyacht-owning tech billionaires . Along with Bezos, the likes of Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison and Google cofounders Sergey Brin and Larry Page have purchased impressive boats with even more impressive amenities.
SuperYacht Times , an industry publication and intelligence platform, has some of the best images of the yacht. Photos show a swimming pool on her main deck and a large helipad.
While less is known of the interior, a vessel of her size can likely sleep dozens of guests and crew and may have amenities like an expansive gym where Zuckerberg could practice his jiu-jitsu or a spa with a massage area. We suspect there's also space for plenty of toys — which could include his viral hydrofoil foil .
