Officer ‘motorboated’ subordinate at promotion ceremony, retires after guilty plea

A former Louisiana National Guard officer was allowed to retire after a general court-martial convicted him of charges stemming from “motorboating” a subordinate soldier during an informal promotion ceremony while deployed to Jordan in May 2021, Army Times has confirmed.

Capt. Billy Joe Crosby Jr., a logistics officer who was overseas with the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team during its recent deployment, was initially charged with abusive sexual contact and conduct unbecoming an officer, according to court records obtained by Army Times. Crosby was the officer-in-charge of an outpost in Jordan.

Maj. Jessica Rovero, a spokesperson for the command overseeing the trial, told Army Times in a statement that Crosby’s “behavior is not in line with the Army values.”

Rovero added that “multiple Soldiers immediately reported the behavior, and Crosby pled guilty at trial.”

The guilty plea came with strings attached, though.

The officer struck a deal that erased the abusive sexual contact charge. He pled guilty to assault consummated by battery — a non-sexual offense — and conduct unbecoming, records reveal.

Crosby, a prior enlisted soldier who participated in the 1989 invasion of Panama, was confined for 30 days. The plea deal also prevented the judge from dismissing him from the Army, which would have kept him from collecting his retirement.

A Louisiana National Guard spokesperson, Lt. Col. Noel Collins, confirmed that Crosby retired March 31 after completing his confinement and returning home.

Crosby did not respond to an emailed request for comment.

What did Crosby do?

When he learned that the junior soldier was selected for promotion, Crosby reportedly announced to her twice that he intended to “motorboat” her during her promotion ceremony because the Army Combat Uniform’s chest-placed rank patch was intended for such actions.

An NCO witnessed both statements, according to a motion filed by prosecutors.

The placement of the rank on the chest is a concern for many women during promotion ceremonies, says the author of this commentary..

Prosecutors described “motorboating” as “when a person places his or her face between a [woman]’s breasts and shakes his or her head back and forth while making sounds resembling a boat motor.”

Weeks before the assault, Crosby also told the NCO that he wanted to bring the junior soldier with him on a driving trip to another base in Jordan. The NCO told investigators that Crosby requested the soldier’s company because “he liked looking at her tits.”

The junior soldier told Crosby the day before the assault that she did not want a promotion ceremony.

But during work the following day, according to a prosecution motion, Crosby “approached [the junior soldier], told her to stand up, placed the rank in front of her chest, leaned in the grab the rank with his teeth...then placed his face between [the junior soldier]’s breasts...[and] vigorously moved his head from side to side between [her] breasts while still holding the rank with his teeth.”

It’s not clear when the crime was reported, nor is it clear who reported it, but court documents indicate that agents from the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division were interviewing witnesses within two weeks of the incident.

Crosby, who initially declared he would plead not guilty, changed his plea after negotiating a deal that reduced the charges and protected his retirement. The removal of the abusive sexual contact charge, which was dismissed as part of the deal, also meant that he did not have to register as a sex offender.

Although the deal took away the possibility of an other-than-honorable discharge and reduced his maximum confinement to 120 days, the judge only sentenced Crosby to 30 days and did not direct a reprimand, fines or forfeitures.

Crosby’s brigade had other disciplinary issues during its 2021 mobilization, which saw most of the unit sent to the Middle East. Some other elements of the brigade went to the federally controlled mission supporting officials at the U.S.-Mexico border.

A Louisiana Guard cavalry troop operating in south Texas was temporarily disbanded after widespread issues with sexual harassment, discipline and command climate. The state returned its troops from the border mission a month ahead of schedule after two soldiers died in alcohol-related incidents, though a state spokesperson said the move was unrelated to the problems the units had faced.

An Army officer in the Louisiana Army National Guard has been retired after he reportedly ‘motorboated’ a female soldier during a promotion ceremony.

Retired Capt. Billy Joe Crosby Jr., a logistics officer who was overseas with the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, was initially charged with abusive sexual contact and conduct unbecoming an officer during a deployment.

At the time of the incident, the guard unit was based in Jordan.

According to the Army Times , the prior-enlisted soldier -who served during Operation Just Cause in 1989- pled guilty to assault consummated by battery and conduct unbecoming.

As part of his plea deal, Crosby was allowed to retire on March 31 after serving 30 days in confinement.

Crosby’s charges came from an incident involving a junior soldier, one who Crosby said “had great tits.”

On multiple occasions, Crosby told the soldier he would “motorboat” her during a promotion ceremony, due to the placement of rank on the duty uniform.

Despite the soldier asking Crosby to skip the ceremony, Crosby ultimately “approached [the junior soldier], told her to stand up, placed the rank in front of her chest, leaned in the grab the rank with his teeth…then placed his face between [the junior soldier]’s breasts…[and] vigorously moved his head from side to side between [her] breasts while still holding the rank with his teeth.”

Crosby’s unit has reportedly had several disciplinary issues outside of the incident.

A Louisiana Army National Guard officer was allowed to retire with full benefits after he was convicted of assault for “motorboating” a subordinate soldier during an informal promotion ceremony last year, a report said.

Capt. Billy Crosby, a logistics officer with the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team deployed in Jordan, spent 30 days in the brig for “placing his face between [the junior solider’s] breasts and moving his face from side to side,” in May 2021, according to court documents .

According to the docs, he told the soldier twice in January that he would “motorboat” her at her upcoming promotion ceremony.

In May while deployed in Jordan, the female officer declined to have a promotion ceremony. After she declined, Crosby entered the soldier’s room, where she was sitting down in just a duty-approved brown T-shirt and training shorts and performed his own improvised ceremony, the court docs say.

Crosby “told her to stand up, placed the rank in front of her chest and leaned in to grab the rank with his teeth,” and put his face between her breasts, the court documents said.

“He vigorously moved his head from side to side between [the junior soldier’s] breasts while still holding the rank with his teeth,” according to court documents. A staff sergeant who witnessed the assault “immediately left the office because he was made so uncomfortable by the Accused’s actions.”

Witnesses told investigators that Crosby had previously harassed the sergeant, once asking that she ride with him to another post in Jordan because he “liked looking at her [breasts],” court documents state.

He was initially charged with conduct unbecoming an officer and abusive sexual contact before he pleaded guilty to lesser charges of assault consummated by battery and conduct unbecoming, the Army Times reported .

Crosby, who participated in the 1989 invasion of Panama, retired on March 31 after completing his sentence and returning home.

He maintained full benefits and was not ordered to pay any fines or forfeit any pay after the judge ruled he would not be dismissed from the Army. Crosby was also not required to register as a sex offender since his charge was downgraded to assault per his plea deal, according to the Army Times.

 “I was accused of a lot more than I done, and I pled guilty to what I did,” Crosby told Stars and Stripes.

Guard Officer Allowed to Retire with Benefits After 'Motorboating' Subordinate

A Louisiana Army National Guard officer retired in March with benefits after being convicted of assault and conduct unbecoming an officer for "motorboating" an enlisted soldier during a promotion ceremony in Jordan in May 2021.

Court documents show that Capt. Billy Crosby, a logistics officer with the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team who was deployed to Joint Training Center Jordan, initially was charged with conduct unbecoming an officer and abusive sexual contact.

But during the proceedings, which were first reported by Army Times , he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of assault consummated by battery and conduct unbecoming.

"Capt. Crosby's behavior was not in line with the Army values," Maj. Jessica Rovero, a spokeswoman for 1st Theater Sustainment Command, said in an emailed statement to Military.com. "Multiple Soldiers immediately reported the behavior, and Crosby pled guilty at trial."

According to court documents, Crosby told the junior soldier that he planned to "motorboat" her at her promotion ceremony to sergeant and did just that: placing his face between her breasts and "moving it from side to side ... without the sergeant's consent" during an impromptu ceremony initiated by Crosby on May 15, 2021.

Witnesses corroborated the incident, with one telling investigators that Crosby had previously expressed interest in the sergeant, asking that she ride with him to another post in Jordan because he "liked looking at her tits," court documents state.

The day before the assault, the soldier told Crosby she did not want a promotion ceremony, according to the documents. The next day, however, Crosby "approached [her], told her to stand up, placed the rank in front of her chest, leaned in to grab the rank with his teeth ... then placed his face between [the sergeant's] breasts ... [and] vigorously moved his head from side to side between [her] breasts while still holding the rank with his teeth."

Crosby was sentenced to 30 days in the brig and allowed to retire with benefits. He was not directed to pay any fines or sentenced to forfeiture of pay. He also was not required to register as a sex offender, given the lesser charge of assault.

The National Guard Bureau has been under fire from advocates and members of Congress in the past several years for jurisdictional issues related to criminal cases on state and federal orders and its failure to investigate and prosecute cases of sexual assault and harassment.

The U.S. Army and Air Force have jurisdiction in cases that occur while soldiers and airmen are on federal orders, such as the Crosby case, but the services do not have the same authority when Guard members are on state orders.

Romero said the Crosby proceedings were done in a manner that "inspires trust in the process."

"Throughout the court-martial, all parties were treated with dignity and respect," she said in her statement.

A former enlisted soldier, Crosby deployed to Panama in 1989. His defense lawyers requested a character witness but were denied the opportunity. They argued that the prosecution tried to portray the captain as a "creepy old guy."

Crosby told Stars and Stripes that he retired from the Louisiana Army National Guard on March 31. "I was accused of a lot more than I done, and I pled guilty to what I did," he told the publication.

The Army Times reports on the story of a former Louisiana National Guard officer who was convicted by a general court-martial after allegedly "motorboating" a female subordinate. The incident reportedly occurred during her promotion ceremony to sergeant while they were deployed to Jordan in May of last year. Capt. Billy Joe Crosby Jr. pleaded guilty at trial in a deal that saw the abusive sexual contact charge against him dropped (leaving assault- and conduct-related charges) and allowed him to collect his retirement. After serving a 30-day confinement, Crosby on March 31 retired.

Crosby allegedly twice told his subordinate that he planned to "motorboat" her during her promotion ceremony "because the Army Combat Uniform’s chest-placed rank patch was intended for such actions," per the Army Times , and allegedly made comments to another officer about the woman's breasts. The woman reportedly asked Crosby that no ceremony take place, but per court documents, Crosby allegedly entered her space the following day and ordered her to stand up. Crosby then "placed the rank in front of her chest, leaned in (to) grab the rank with his teeth...then placed his face between [the junior soldier]’s breasts...[and] vigorously moved his head from side to side between [her] breasts while still holding the rank with his teeth."

Stars and Stripes reports the plea agreement was signed in November, but documents were released by the Army Wednesday after an image of the findings in the case was posted to Reddit, spurring questions. It adds the soldiers were in Jordan to contribute to US efforts to counter ISIS in Iraq and Syria. "I was accused of a lot more than I done, and I pled guilty to what I did," Crosby told Stars and Stripes. (More strange stuff stories.)

Capt. Billy Crosby, a logistics officer with the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team deployed in Jordan, had a history of harassing this particular female officer, according to court documents.

The officer-in-charge there, Crosby had once invited her to ride with him to another post because he “enjoyed looking at her tits.” When the captain found out the female officer was to be promoted to sergeant in May 2021, he told her multiple times he would “motorboat” her breasts at the ceremony.

As the date apprached, the female officer declined a public promotion ceremony. Crosby found her in her room and held an impromptu ceremony , telling her to stand as he pinned her new rank to her chest.

Promotion ceremonies sometime include a light punch to the new medal. However, Crosby chose to lean in “to grab the rank with his teeth” and “vigorously moved his head from side to side between [the junior soldier’s] breasts while still holding the rank with his teeth,” according to court documents.

A shocked witness had to leave the room, said the documents. Multiple soldiers immediately reported the behavior.

Crosby was initially charged with abusive sexual contact and conduct unbecoming an officer, according to the Army Times. His defense lawyers initially said the prosecution was “trying to use gossip to portray the captain as a “creepy old guy,” according to Stars and Strips.

Crosby, who was prosecuted by Army prosecutors under the Uniform Military Code of Justice eventually struck a plea deal that downgraded the first charge to assault consummated by battery, a non-sexual offense, which allowed him to maintain full benefits in retirement, avoid having to register as a sex offender, and prevented the judge from dismissing him from the Army. The judge did not ask that he pay any fines or forfeit any pay.

A Louisiana National Guard Spokesman confirmed that Crosby retired Mar. 31 after completing his sentence – 30 days in confinement – and returning home from deployment.

“I was accused of a lot more than I done, and I pled guilty to what I did,” Crosby told Stars and Stripes.

Crosby participated in the 1989 invasion of Panama.

Trump has used it as a day in which he alleges his most ardent backers did nothing and wrong and were subsequently politically targeted by Biden's DOJ, and Biden has repeatedly remarked on January 6 as a reason to protect and defend democracy amid attacks from Trump and his acolytes.

"People know what happened on January 6,” Biden advisor Mike Donilon told CNN. “I think most of the country is going to say, ‘We don’t embrace political violence. We do embrace democracy. We do embrace the rule of law. We’re not interested in pardoning people who ransacked the Capitol, and we’re going to have a real problem supporting someone who embraces all that.’”

The former president has referred to January 6 defendants as " hostages ," and has vowed to pardon scores of them if elected to a second term. At a 2023 rally, he played audio of incarcerated January 6 convicts — dubbed the " January 6 prison choir " — singing a rendition of the national anthem entitled "Justice for All."

"Our people love those people,” Trump said of his supporters and those jailed for the capitol riot. “What’s happening in that prison, it’s a hellhole.. These are people that shouldn’t have been there.”

Meanwhile, one unnamed Biden campaign adviser said he was personally surprised that January 6 has become such a common point of concern in focus groups of voters. Some Democratic operatives told CNN they refer to the imagery of January 6 as "scar tissue" on voters' minds.

“Anyone who is being honest was surprised Jan. 6 continues to be this resonant,” the adviser said. “But in hindsight, when you combine extreme rhetoric, extreme policy and lasting imagery, that ends up being a pretty powerful memory.”

Trump's rhetoric around January 6 has likewise influenced that of Republicans vying to be his 2024 running mate. Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) said in February that had he been in former Vice President Mike Pence's position, he would not have certified the 2020 election results. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-New York) — the House Republican Conference chair who is on Trump's VP shortlist — has said the same .

Donilon, the Biden advisor, lamented to CNN that even three years after the nationally televised insurrection, there are still dueling narratives about the deadly attack that resulted in five deaths of law enforcement officers and several hundred others injured.

“There was a hope that January 6 would have been a decisive moment in terms of the threat to democracy. But it’s not," he said. "It’s an ongoing battle."

The Department of Justice has charged more than 1,300 people in relation to the capitol riot, and has so far secured over 950 convictions. More than 500 of those convicted have been sentenced by anywhere from several days to 22 years in prison.

Trump's latest attack could mean he fears 'extremely damaging' Jeffrey Epstein report

Donald Trump on Saturday returned to a familiar victim for his attacks, and some are struggling to understand exactly why.

Trump bragged at his event that he hit Ron DeSantis low and high and to the side, and that he ultimately conquered the Florida governor, despite DeSantis having already endorsed Trump. The former president even compared his attacks on DeSantis to the attacks his administration leveled against ISIS.

“I hit him hard, I hit him low, just like we did to ISIS…We hit this guy so hard," the ex-president said. "He’s a shell of the man…We have to hit our enemies hard.”

MeidasTouch made the potential connection Saturday:

"Trump began attacking DeSantis again right after DeSantis signed legislation to allow the release of grand jury documents in the Epstein case," the outlet wrote.

Conservative Army Iraq War Veteran Peter Henlein, who floated a similar theory in the past, also joined the chorus after Trump's Saturday DeSantis attacks.

"If you had any doubt that the release of the Florida Epstein grand jury files is going to destroy Trump, remove that doubt. Trump and his political operation are suddenly spending an equal amount of effort attacking DeSantis as they are Biden.....which makes no sense," Henlein wrote Saturday. "They aren't attacking Haley at all, who refused to endorse Trump and stayed in the race much longer than DeSantis, but they are passionately attacking DeSantis, who dropped out after Iowa and endorsed Trump......which makes no sense."

"The ONLY possible explanation," according to the political onlooker, "is that Trump knows the release of Florida Epstein grand jury, which DeSantis paved the way for, is going to be extremely damaging to Trump."

"Trump is angry that this has happened, and he needs to discredit everything about DeSantis to try and blunt the impact of those files," according to Henlein.

'This gets my goat': Legal expert puts DOJ on notice over Trump's hush money trial delay

A former federal prosecutor has a bone to pick with the Department of Justice.

Legal analyst Glenn Kirschner appeared on MSNBC's The Saturday Show With Jonathan Capehart, where he was asked about a recent 30-day delay in Donald Trump's criminal hush money case. The delay stems from an abundance of additional documents that have been input into the system in connection with a related case.

"The hush money trial in New York has been pushed back but still a hearing on March 25th. What can we expect out of that hearing?" the host asked.

"You know, the judge asked the parties to give him a detailed timeline about why there have been some late disclosures of documents and this one really gets my goat, Jonathan, because it looks like the late disclosures were not a product of Alvin Bragg and his prosecutors but of who? The Department of Justice specifically the southern district of new York U.S. attorney's office an arm of the Department of Justice. The reporting is that Alvin Bragg asked for documents ages ago. And for whatever reason, DOJ seems to be very late in turning things over. What I can tell you is a former career prosecutor, is that when you get stuff and you turn it over to the defense in you know, on the eve of trial or within a week or so of trial, delay is very likely to occur. And the reason I'm so concerned that the DOJ seems to be the one that for whatever reason was dragging its heels, we have yet to see the DOJ prosecute a single solitary member of the hierarchy of the insurrection."

He added, "I very much look forward to what the U.S. attorney's office and the Department of Justice has to say about it because i assume it will be all in that detailed timeline that Alvin Bragg's prosecutors and Trump's defense attorneys present" to the judge.

Guard Officer Allowed to Retire with Benefits After 'Motorboating' Subordinate

A Louisiana Army National Guard officer retired in March with benefits after being convicted of assault and conduct unbecoming an officer for "motorboating" an enlisted soldier during a promotion ceremony in Jordan in May 2021.

Court documents show that Capt. Billy Crosby, a logistics officer with the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team who was deployed to Joint Training Center Jordan, initially was charged with conduct unbecoming an officer and abusive sexual contact.

But during the proceedings, which were first reported by Army Times , he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of assault consummated by battery and conduct unbecoming.

"Capt. Crosby's behavior was not in line with the Army values," Maj. Jessica Rovero, a spokeswoman for 1st Theater Sustainment Command, said in an emailed statement to Military.com. "Multiple Soldiers immediately reported the behavior, and Crosby pled guilty at trial."

According to court documents, Crosby told the junior soldier that he planned to "motorboat" her at her promotion ceremony to sergeant and did just that: placing his face between her breasts and "moving it from side to side ... without the sergeant's consent" during an impromptu ceremony initiated by Crosby on May 15, 2021.

Witnesses corroborated the incident, with one telling investigators that Crosby had previously expressed interest in the sergeant, asking that she ride with him to another post in Jordan because he "liked looking at her tits," court documents state.

The day before the assault, the soldier told Crosby she did not want a promotion ceremony, according to the documents. The next day, however, Crosby "approached [her], told her to stand up, placed the rank in front of her chest, leaned in to grab the rank with his teeth ... then placed his face between [the sergeant's] breasts ... [and] vigorously moved his head from side to side between [her] breasts while still holding the rank with his teeth."

Crosby was sentenced to 30 days in the brig and allowed to retire with benefits. He was not directed to pay any fines or sentenced to forfeiture of pay. He also was not required to register as a sex offender, given the lesser charge of assault.

The National Guard Bureau has been under fire from advocates and members of Congress in the past several years for jurisdictional issues related to criminal cases on state and federal orders and its failure to investigate and prosecute cases of sexual assault and harassment.

The U.S. Army and Air Force have jurisdiction in cases that occur while soldiers and airmen are on federal orders, such as the Crosby case, but the services do not have the same authority when Guard members are on state orders.

Romero said the Crosby proceedings were done in a manner that "inspires trust in the process."

"Throughout the court-martial, all parties were treated with dignity and respect," she said in her statement.

A former enlisted soldier, Crosby deployed to Panama in 1989. His defense lawyers requested a character witness but were denied the opportunity. They argued that the prosecution tried to portray the captain as a "creepy old guy."

Crosby told Stars and Stripes that he retired from the Louisiana Army National Guard on March 31. "I was accused of a lot more than I done, and I pled guilty to what I did," he told the publication.

Army captain jailed after lewd assault of his soldier during promotion

Capt. Billy Crosby pleaded guilty to conduct unbecoming an officer and assault consummated by battery, according to a summary of the trial provided to Stars and Stripes. A third charge for abusive sexual contact was dropped. (LinkedIn)

A U.S. Army officer who put his head between a soldier’s breasts during her promotion in Jordan was convicted by a court-martial of two related charges, documents provided Wednesday by the service show.

Capt. Billy Crosby pleaded guilty to conduct unbecoming an officer and assault consummated by battery, according to a summary of the trial provided to Stars and Stripes. A third charge for abusive sexual contact was dropped.

Crosby was sentenced to 30 days confinement, a plea agreement signed in November said.

The plea agreement resulted in no fines, reduction in rank or reprimands for Crosby, who was not required to register as a sex offender.

The Army released the court documents after an image of the findings emerged recently on Reddit, along with speculation as to what occurred.

"(Capt.) Crosby's behavior was not in line with the Army values,” Maj. Jessica Rovero, spokeswoman for the 1st Theater Sustainment Command, said in a statement.

“Multiple soldiers immediately reported the behavior, and Crosby pled guilty at trial,” the statement added. “Throughout the court-martial, all parties were treated with dignity and respect.”

Crosby served as a company commander in the Louisiana National Guard and as a senior officer at an austere base in Jordan, as part of U.S. efforts to fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, court documents said.

After Crosby found out that a soldier under his command was to be promoted to sergeant, he announced twice in front of a witness that he would "motorboat" her at her promotion ceremony, court documents said.

The term "motorboating" refers to the act of placing one’s head in between someone’s breasts and moving one’s face from side to side.

Promotion ceremonies, especially to sergeant, are a major event in many careers. Sometimes they include a light punch at the rank on a newly promoted service member’s chest by their peers or by loved ones.

However, the future sergeant declined Crosby's offer to stage a promotion ceremony, the documents said.

After the rejection, Crosby entered the sergeant's workplace last May and ordered the soldier to stand up. He placed her new rank in front of her chest, leaned in to grab the rank with his teeth and put his face into her chest without her consent, court documents said.

A witness said the captain had expressed a long-term interest in the soldier and had said he "liked looking" at her chest prior to the assault, evidence provided to the court said.

Defense lawyers for Crosby said the prosecution was trying to use gossip to portray the captain as a "creepy old guy."

A military judge declined the defense’s request for a witness, a retired first sergeant, to testify to the captain’s good sense of humor in difficult circumstances while deployed to Panama in 1989.

Crosby has completed his prison sentence. He retired from the Louisiana National Guard on March 31, Crosby told Stars and Stripes on Wednesday.

“I was accused of a lot more than I done, and I pled guilty to what I did,” Crosby said.

Jordan hosts about 3,000 American troops, a recent Congressional Research Service report said.

How this happens in 2022 is just amazing. The article says this guy is a mustang officer who participated in the Invasion of Panama. So he’s been in the Army for 30 years or more. Has this been OK at any point in that time? From the officer in command of an outpost no less.

A former Louisiana National Guard officer was allowed to retire after a general court-martial convicted him of charges stemming from “motorboating” a subordinate soldier during an informal promotion ceremony while deployed to Jordan in May 2021, Army Times has confirmed. Capt. Billy Joe Crosby Jr., a logistics officer who was overseas with the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team during its recent deployment, was initially charged with abusive sexual contact and conduct unbecoming an officer, according to court records obtained by Army Times. Crosby was the officer-in-charge of an outpost in Jordan. Maj. Jessica Rovero, a spokesperson for the command overseeing the trial, told Army Times in a statement that Crosby’s “behavior is not in line with the Army values.” Rovero added that “multiple Soldiers immediately reported the behavior, and Crosby pled guilty at trial.” The guilty plea came with strings attached, though. The officer struck a deal that erased the abusive sexual contact charge. He pled guilty to assault consummated by battery — a non-sexual offense — and conduct unbecoming, records reveal. Crosby, a prior enlisted soldier who participated in the 1989 invasion of Panama, was confined for 30 days. The plea deal also prevented the judge from dismissing him from the Army, which would have kept him from collecting his retirement. A Louisiana National Guard spokesperson, Lt. Col. Noel Collins, confirmed that Crosby retired March 31 after completing his confinement and returning home. Crosby did not respond to an emailed request for comment.

So what was it he did? Get a load of the stones on this fella;

When he learned that the junior soldier was selected for promotion, Crosby reportedly announced to her twice that he intended to “motorboat” her during her promotion ceremony because the Army Combat Uniform’s chest-placed rank patch was intended for such actions. An NCO witnessed both statements, according to a motion filed by prosecutors. Prosecutors described “motorboating” as “when a person places his or her face between a [woman]’s breasts and shakes his or her head back and forth while making sounds resembling a boat motor.” Weeks before the assault, Crosby also told the NCO that he wanted to bring the junior soldier with him on a driving trip to another base in Jordan. The NCO told investigators that Crosby requested the soldier’s company because “he liked looking at her tits.” The junior soldier told Crosby the day before the assault that she did not want a promotion ceremony. But during work the following day, according to a prosecution motion, Crosby “approached [the junior soldier], told her to stand up, placed the rank in front of her chest, leaned in the grab the rank with his teeth…then placed his face between [the junior soldier]’s breasts…[and] vigorously moved his head from side to side between [her] breasts while still holding the rank with his teeth.”

Someone needs to come up with a PowerPoint presentation on what is acceptable and unacceptable conduct like this. The presentation should take hours to get through, should include as many silly animations and transitions as PowerPoint will allow, should be presented by someone who just reads each of the slides with no enthusiasm, and should be mandated for all hands on at least an annual basis with bonus showings when incidents like this occur. That’ll fix the problem. Department of Defense – I’ll waive my usual consulting fee for this; this bit of advice is totally on the house. Just be sure the idea is not traceable by any means back to me… you can have all the credit.

I also suggest a spreadsheet tracker so that we know who went to the “No Motor Boat” class down to the individual level. Since this happened on a deployment anyone who does not go should be considered non-deployable.

Well, at least there’s one less dumbass currently in the Army now that he’s retired.

Yet another example of why Congress should change the UCMJ to allow court-martial panels to impose reductions in rank on officers as part of a court-martial sentence. Since he wasn’t reduced in grade, this jerk’s retirement pay won’t be affected by his court-martial conviction – and it should be.

He must have had a break in service.

In Panama (1989). Only one NDSM so he must have missed Desert Storm (1991).

Transitioned from enlisted to officer and advanced to Captain with only one ARCOM and one AAM (although he does have a Bronze Star). Probably explains why he’s not at least a Major (O3 being only a TIG requirement for promotion).

Concur with break in service theory. Either his awards in his official photo above are incomplete or he had to have at least one break in service.

In the photo (apparently taken prior to his 2021 deployment), he’s sporting the Bronze Hourglass on his AFRM. If he had 20+ years credible RC service, he’d almost certainly be wearing the silver hourglass.

He’d have 20+ years credible RC service (and a 2nd NDSM) if he’d gone into the SELRES during the Gulf War NDSM period and been in same since. He’s wearing the ICM, so he rates the NDSM for the current GWOT NDSM period.

A mustang does not include the enlisted time against the 30 year requirement to retire. At least it didn’t used to. I’ve known officers with over 40 total years service. 10+ as an E, and 30 as an O.

This doesn’t work for CWOs, however. It’s 30 total and out.

For officers, your MRD (mandatory removal date) is 28 years from the day you commission. Breaks in service do not stop that clock from running. Guard can waiver/ETP max age for commissioning up to 39 years and 364 days (got to put on that butter bar BEFORE you turn 40). I know this because I was a 38 y/o 2LT with 20 years enlisted before I joined the dark side. However, my MRD is my 60th birthday, NOT 28 years since I commissioned (unless WWIII hits and I some how make BG).

And no, I’m not an old ass Captain. I am an old ass Major  😎 

You might want to consult your personnel office on that. Federal law gives different numbers for max commissioned service for RC officers that varies by grade

Absent SELCON or another statutory exception, MRD is generally 20 years commissioned service for RC O-4s (see 10 USC 14506 and the exceptions listed in same); 28 years commissioned service for RC O-5s (10 USC 14507); 30 years for O-6s (10 USC 14507), and more for GOs/FOs (10 USC 14508).

Also, the statutory MRD due to age for all officers below O-8 appears to be last day of the month when the individual turns 62 (10 USC 14509). Those provisions of USC can be viewed here:

It’s possible that current service regs may mandate earlier removal dates than those required by statute, but the above are what Federal law mandates.

My current MRD has been extended to 26JAN2026 ( 1 month past my 60th birthday-I have no idea why.) Previously it was 26DEC2025. Always shown that way since I was a 2LT. That’s from HRC. On my MRD, I will have 21 years commissioned servive to go along with 19 years 4 months enlisted service.

I am up for LTC next year, which from my understanding of the USAR is fairly automatic if you can hear thunder and see lightning (and 50% ILE). I don’t think I’ll be staying past 2025.

As far as I know and it can be different in the Guard, but in the Reserves its 33 years now or a certain age.

I knew a guy that retired as a 62 yo MSgt with 42 years total service (62-04), between the Army NG, Air Guard and AF Reserves.

Don’t know how it works with O’s though.

Female Soldiers are addressed as “Soldier” just as their Male Counterparts or by their Rank. In this case, the Soldier was a Specialist (E4) promotable to SGT (E5).

This guy’s former brigade seemed like a dumpster fire from reports. Probably many solid reliable soldiers doing their best, but also loads of soup sandwich shitbags bringing everyone else down.

This is infuriating to me. I did 7 years of AD(Army)in my 40s(I’m a direct commission as I’m a medical provider, PA). During my 7 years of AD I did 3 deployments.(Iraq(2009), Afghanistan(2012-2013, 2014). I then transitioned into the reserves and have 7 years with 1 deployment to the Horn of Africa. I have 36 months of deployment time. I have since developed severe right hip replacement and need the hip replaced. I decided to pursue a P3 profile as I no longer am able to carry a combat load. As a gift to me, the Army is discharging me with nothing. They claim it’s not duty related as I never had an LOD initiated. I’m not a whiner. I have a congressional underway and I am appealing the decision, but, I’m not hopeful that this will help. If I was at 15 years I could and would take a early retirement but, unfortunately I’m a year shy. Another case that infuriates me is the COL chief of staff at JBLM that held its family hostage and was allowed to retire.

Feel your pain. Airborne Son is about to be Admin Discharged w/o his insurance because the fork-sticks won’t honor his religious exemption for the vaccination, the dip-shiite admins didn’t get his medical release through correctly (4 times) – and he’s about to just throw in the towel and give up. With 100% VA disability but the VA screwing him over repeatedly about his pay.

Honorable service in harms way and they screw him over and over.

Officer wearing a marksmanship badge. As an infantry officer, I was taught that officers should not wear marksmanship badges. I have a couple, but they have never graced a uniform.

An O-3 at 30 years service? Did Big Green suspend up or out for reserve component officers?

Interesting re: Army marksmanship badges.

In the Marine Corps, officers typically wear both rifle and pistol marksmanship badges on the service “A” uniform.

rgr769 is correct about US Army Officers NOT wearing Marksmanship Badges.

rgr769: Was wondering the same thing. The only time members of the ninja family received marksmanship badges was when we were Enlisted and qualified with our weapons. We still have our Grenade Qualification Badges as well.

I had to qualify in several AD and reserve units. The last time I qualed expert, I am certain my NCO grading me pencil-whipped my score. But after ten years of Cowboy Action shooting competitions as a civilian I am a much better pistol shot than in the military.

I suspect CPT Motorboat was embarrassed he hadn’t accumulated more badges, so he felt it necessary to wear both the marksmanship badge and the vehicle driver/mechanic badge. In over fifteen years of AD and reserve component service, I never saw an officer wearing a vehicle qualification badge.

We both qualified with our weapons every year when we served…the only difference is that as Commissioned Officers, we did not receive Marksmanship badges versus receiving them when we were Enlisted.

We are not familiar with US Army National Guard “DA Photo” standards…or with their regulations regarding Officers wearing the Marksmanship Badge…Perhaps it is different from AC and RC?

Uniform regs are the same for both AC and RC, ninja. Only practical difference is the state decorations some NG personnel wear (which are also authorized for wear by AC soldiers if awarded, except in DA photos, if I recall correctly).

My understanding is that officer personnel rate the same qual badges for weapons qual as enlisted personnel do, and are technically authorized to wear therm. However, my understanding is that by tradition officer personnel don’t wear weapons/driver/mech/other skill badges other than the “hooah” badges (Parachutist, Ranger/SF tabs, Pathfinder, Air Assault, CIB/EIB/CMB/EMB/CAB/aviation wings, etc . . . .).

When I asked why decades ago, I was told it’s “because an officer is presumed to be an expert in those military skills pertinent to their job” (or words to that effect). Not sure that makes much sense now, or did then, even; some people are simply better at performing certain tasks than others, practice notwithstanding. But it’s the answer I got.

Yep…Officers ARE authorized to wear those Badges…Officers just NORMALLY don’t wear them.

I was also told the same thing as a young butterbar. I also noticed that the two most decorated officers I served with in Germany omitted their ribbon racks when wearing the khaki shirt, and just wore their jump wings and CIB’s.

I’m appalled that the judge didn’t order maximum fines/forfeitures as part of this fool’s sentence. Hell, best I can tell from perusing the documents at ninja’s link, the judge ordered no forfeitures at all .

I understand that the plea bargain precluded dismissal, but it didn’t preclude any other authorized punishments. IMO this jerk richly deserved to lose a big chunk of coin for his stupidity.

Then again, doing that might have “hurt his family” – even if it meant he got off essentially scot-free, future impact on troop morale and discipline be damned.

The first think that crosses my mind when I hear things like this is; “that subordinate soldier is my daughter”. Now, mind you; I don’t have any children; but when I think “that soldier is my daughter”, she becomes my daughter for that moment, and I become her father, and I want to beat the living shit out of that captain for what he did. She’s my daughter. She’s YOUR daughter. She’s your wife, mother, sister, grandmother, or any other woman in your life who you respect. Just wondering how an Ordnance Officer/O3 DIRECTLY engaged with the enemy.

Can anyone assist?

I’ve heard stories that on some deployments, folks would load up a couple of Humvees or other vehicles and troll the bad guys to get them to fire on them and then return fire, and scoot on back home. Bam! Instant CAB. That was before my time, so I can’t comment on the accuracy of those stories. From a legit standpoint, he could have been in a convoy that was hit, too. That wasn’t unheard of.

A bunch of us were in the Box when Saddam fired those SCUD at us in 2003. However, none of us qualified for the CAB because we were not DIRECTLY engaged with the enemy. Which makes sense…

See where I am going with this? We had troops hit by RPGs in Iraq who were injured and received the PH (2003). However, they as well did not qualify for the CAB because they were not DIRECTLY engaged with the enemy…

What am I missing…🤔

I can see Cannon Cockers and Treadheads getting the CAB…but Ordnance Officers? Am speculating the CPT was a Maintenance Officer. Just don’t understand how a Maintenance Officer DIRECTLY engages with the Enemy…

I know of 11Bs who were in the Sandbox in both Afghanistan and Iraq in the 2002-2003 timeframe who did not receive the CIB because they were with units who did not DIRECTLY engage with the enemy…

With regards to the convoy scenario, I think the common interpretation would be that if you return fire, you’re engaging the enemy.

As long as you’re actually taking fire and it’s not a Battle of Los Angeles or L. Ron Hubbard scenario.

Also, plenty of combat engineers/route clearance personnel have received the CAB. I know a few in my Battalion.

The badge wasn’t created until 2005, but was made retroactive to September 2001.

Yes…am well aware of the background information ..Thank You for the reference…Those Soldiers contacted me asking for referrals/letters on their behalf, especially those with the PH (I was in their Chain of Command). Their request for the CAB was denied because they were not directly engaged with the enemy. Which made sense.

Additionally, I think the “standards” of the CAB became “relaxed” after 2005. Similiar to everyone and their Grandmother getting the Bronze Star for Grenada, Panama, Desert Storm, OEF and OIF.

Find it odd that alot of troops who were in the box 2001-2004 somehow did not meet the ROE for the CAB, but years laters, other troops who came years later did.

Forgot to ask: Didn’t Beau Biden receive a Bronze Star? What I understand was that he never left the wire at Camp Victory. Wonder if he received the CAB as well.

There were quite a few Bronze Stars awarded for rear echelon personnel. On the Army side of the house, a Bronze Star without the “V” device is the deployed equivalent of a Meritorious Service Medal. So, yeah, Beau Biden, serving as a JAG lawyer received a Bronze Star (no “V” device) as an end of tour award.

The Bronze Star w/o “V” is, and was from its inception, the in-theater MSM. It was supposed to be the ground combat equivalent of the Air Medal.

In the Marine Corps, as well as the Navy, the Air Medal is a bit more than just an aviation “in-theater MSM”.

Regardless of what the Air Medal’s history is and what legacy “regulations” may say, these days USMC/USN Aviators/NFOs/Aircrew aren’t going to be awarded Air Medals unless they’re directly involved in combat operations.

In Naval Aviation, you won’t get an Air Medal just for “showing up” in theater.

At the end of my tour in A-stan I saw just about everyone Platoon Sergeant and above get BSMs to include Lieutenants who rarely left the air-conditioned HQ Buildings and kept the coffee pot ready 24/7.

At least he didn’t tack it on. When I got winged my LPO took great delight in bending mine into a U shape. While I still had them on.

Same here when I got my Naval Aviator “Wings of Gold”.

Took a lot of work to get the blood out of my USMC officer dress whites.

(BTW, that was pre-Tailhook ’91)

Army intelligence analyst charged with selling military secrets to contact in China for $42,000

Washington — An active duty Army soldier and intelligence analyst spent over a year selling sensitive military documents related to the U.S. defense of Taiwan , weapons systems, and missile defense systems to China, federal prosecutors alleged in an indictment unsealed Thursday and obtained by CBS News. 

Sergeant Korbein Schultz is accused of using his top secret security clearance to download classified U.S. government records at the behest of an unnamed individual who claimed to live in Hong Kong, allegedly amassing $42,000 in the process.

He was arrested Thursday and charged with six counts including conspiracy and bribery. According to court filings, Schultz was a sergeant and intelligence analyst and assigned to the 506th Infantry Battalion. The Army said Schultz, 24, of Willis Point, Texas, has been in the service since November 2018.

The charging documents don't name the Chinese government as the recipient of the information or as perpetrators of the scheme, but much of the military information Schutlz is accused to have passed on relates to that country. 

Beginning in June 2022, prosecutors said Schultz and his co-conspirator began communicating online and via encrypted messaging applications. He was instructed to prioritize passing along "original and exclusive documents" to his handler, including information related to Russia's war in Ukraine and the "operabitly of sensitive U.S. military systems and their capabilities," court documents said.

The pair allegedly agreed to enter into a long-term partnership. 

By July 2022, investigators alleged Schultz was sending information about High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems , the type of systems the U.S. has been sending to Ukraine to use against Russia. He is also accused of transmitting sensitive documents about hypersonic equipment and summaries of U.S. military drills in August 2022. 

Court documents detailed a months-long exchange in which the unnamed co-conspirator asked for specific documents and Schutlz complied, selling dozens of sensitive records for thousands of dollars at a time. 

Money appeared to be his motivation. In one message, Schultz allegedly told his handler, "I need to get my other BMW back." 

"I will just keep sending you an abundance of information," he wrote to the coconspirator, according to prosecutors, later expressing a desire to compare himself to Jason Bourne, the fictional spy created by author Robert Ludlum.

By August of 2023, Schultz — whose job was in part to instruct others on the proper handling of classified information — discussed with his Chinese handler the separate arrests that month of two U.S. Navy sailors accused of transmitting sensitive information to China. 

Schultz's co conspirators advised him to be careful, court papers revealed. 

And in November 2023, prosecutors alleged the handler asked Schultz to discuss work "for the next year." 

The charges come days after Massachusetts Air National Guardsman Jack Texeira pleaded guilty to illegally posting classified military records on an online gaming platform in one of the military's most damaging leak campaigns. 

And on Tuesday, an Air Force employee was charged with leaking classified information related to Russia's war in Ukraine to an individual over a foreign dating site. 

It was not immediately clear if Schultz had an attorney. His first court appearance will be Friday.
