Description
This is a remix of https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2572866, to accomodate Molineasails Keel, and swing rig.
This remix is basically only for the midship section and the keel box, to accomodate Molineasails swing rigs and keel-rudder combo, with a slightly different sail servo mounting bracket, and a few other small changes according my favor.
Print instructions:
Use vase mode with 0,2mm layer height (can be finer but not really necessary), with 0,55mm line width. I printed the two ends with the ends facing down to avoid bulkheads (here I used 4 bottom layers, so 0,8mm thick overall). Here I really recommend eSun PLA+ due to the durability, if You find the correct temperature it is practically unbreakable, for me it is 220c degrees, but experiment on your own please, but a good starting point. Hull sections and smaller parts like rudder servo brackets, access cover reinforcements, etc bonded together with Revell contacta professional (the one with the needle), due to quick drying time and the joint is practically welded together. I do not recommend to bond the keel box, due to possible deformation on the hull, use acrylic or urethane adhesive, or some flexible epoxy (sanding and degreasing recommended here as You would normally do).
Other parts:
I used 0,2mm layer height with 0,4mm line width 3 or 4 perimeters (up to taste). The bumper is printed from TPU with 0,12mm layer height, 2 walls with 0,4mm line width, 0% infill to make it squishy enough (I used Geeetech 95A TPU).
I printed from TPU vase mode, 0,7mm line width, 3 bottom layers.
Other notes:
Most of the parts are designed to use with M3 heat set inserts (I became a big fan of those).
The sail adjuster uses a ball bearing also from Molinea sails (I will check dimensions if needed).
On the pictures You can see an early version, the final is the same but some parts were integrated for easier work, or just implement the heat set inserts. (on the old version more stuff is visible due to different colors)
You can print, build and sail this model in one week with approx 1-2 hours work each day, some RC building skills are required, but if You are completely new, I guess a bit more time is needed to find out what is going which place.
Sail servos:
HS5245MG (minimum recommended, but there is a bracket for that size)
HS645MG (My preferred size with good price-value ratio)
Rudder servo:
HS65HB or MG (but any other servo will work in this size)
The licence is the same as the original, for more info please visit that model too.
note: I had the rudder servo bracket disbonded from the bottom of the hull, therefore I added some reinforcements afterwards to improve bonding surface area. Not perfect, but does the job and almost not visible. You will need to print 4 of those.

“Lipstick”: The Latest 3d Printed RG65
Introducing “lipstick”, the development continues…..
Introducing the latest RG65 from the combined efforts of Bill Hagerup and Selwyn Holland.
In fact this is an updated variation of the “Shrink” series that I have been sailing here in Australia. The “Glass Lady” was the last prototype in the series and can be viewed elsewhere in the site.
So what is different?
Mainly on the construction side:
- a slightly thicker hull for resilience (added 20g). The “Glass Lady” has had no problems on the water but I have had feedback from those constructing their own that during the building process they occasionally cracked something while cutting. Easy to fix at the time but an experiment with hull thicknesses totally solved the problem anyway. All part of the ongoing research and exposure of what we have learnt on the way. Hopefully others will be able to start in a more advanced position than what we did.
- Some minor changes to how the internal running gear fits in. The original is proving very efficient and this just added a bit to it.
- The main change was the position of the mast/keel case . This was moved back 10 mm and seems to be a slight improvement on balance/performance particularly in the heavier chop. Time will tell. The “Glass Lady” is a fast and very competitive RG and “Lipstick” is feeling just as good and so far a bit better in short chop, stronger breezes, yet still very fast in the lighter conditions. Time will tell, I can hardly wait to get it to some regattas.
- The addition of a slightly heavier 3d printed bulb and very stiff 3d printed keel to be used at those fast and furious events. As a side note, I started using a hydro-dynamically efficient 3d printed bulb a while back more as a dare to see if it could be done. It went so well that I have not bothered to take it off. I have seen no disadvantage at all compared to standard lead only bulbs and so much easier to make.
- Nothing was done to the outside surface of this model. We have discovered that the fine matte finish is no hindrance to performance and is very resilient to bumps and scraps, definitely superior to paint. So we just leave it as it is. The colour is within the printed PLA, not on the surface.
The initial trials have gone very well and this will now be my personal racing craft.
Enjoy the images.
Selwyn Holland.
Any questions can be sent to [email protected]. Be patient, I get to them as a soon as I can. I will say I am staggered and heartened by the amount of interest and the quality of the questions coming through.
Latest update:
The more I sail it, the faster it seems to want to go. The sails are a standard jib and a rather radical double luff single sheet main. The combination of both of these seems to easily keep with and often beat both the best RG65 swing rigs and now the new A+ rig on the latest DF. The A+ has a larger surface area than the maximum Rg 65 rig.
Results from our latest Club Championship round included 2 6 1 1 2 5 1 from a strong fleet of 11 yachts. That was a comfortable overall win for the round. It is rarely out of the top three in club sailing and championships.
I can hardly wait to get it to a major RG65 competition. An earlier design won the Australia Day Regatta last year in Sydney.

Great entry-level boat
Posted by Shawn Prigmore on 14th Nov 2016
Very happy with this boat so far, it sails well right out of the box. Very easy assembly, all you have to do is rig the mast, booms, and sails. Instructions can be a little vague, but there are numerous guides on the net to help. The radio leaves ssomthing to be desired, but you can't expect a spektrum system at this price. Highly recommended first boat.
Sorry but this item is currently unavailable. Please check back at a later stage.
