The Mission of the Grosse Ile Yacht Club is to promote, stimulate and foster interest in, to aid members to improve their knowledge in the art of boating and to promote camaraderie among the members, their friends and visiting yachtspersons; and to do such things as may be essential to carry out the mission, vision and values of the Grosse Ile Yacht Club.

CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
The Rotary International is a global network of neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem solvers. Since 1961, the Grosse Ile Rotary has selected a “Citizen of the Year” to honor those actively and selflessly involved in worthy community activities that benefit our island home.
This prestigious award was designed with specific goals in mind. First, to encourage active involvement in the community and civic affairs by increasing awareness of the good things people can do that help make Grosse Ile an attractive and inviting place to live. Each year, the Citizen of the Year award honors deserving residents doing impactful work that may otherwise go unnoticed or unmentioned and draws attention to the best role models in our community. Lastly, it reinforces the purpose of the Rotary as a service club with outreach in and beyond Grosse Ile by awarding those that exemplify the motto “Service Above Self”.
Recipients of this award have displayed long term engagement in community activities without any expectation of attention, recognition, or financial gain. They are mentors, coaches, and exemplary role models for our youth.

The Grosse Ile DDA is partnering with Community Grown Gardens for our weekly Farmers Market on Macomb series! Every Saturday from May 18th to October 19th, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, Community Grown Gardens will be selling produce along with rotating Island vendors at the Commons on Macomb.

Tours at Noon, 1:30 and 3pm.
Each tour begins and ends at the Historical Museum at the corner of Grosse Ile Parkway and Meridian.
On Sunday, September 11th, the Grosse Ile Historical Society is sponsoring a tour every 90 minutes (one tour at Noon, a tour at 1:30pm and a final tour at 3pm) of the Grosse Ile lighthouse. Built in 1906, the stately lighthouse stands 40 feet tall. The octagonal white tower is beautiful, each face is sided with horizontal wood strips like clapboards on an old house. The interior is paneled with varnished Michigan pine, and a wooden circular staircase climbs to the light stanchion.
The tours will originate at the Depot Museum located on the southwest corner of Grosse Ile Parkway and East River Road. A bus (there is no parking at the lighthouse) will take participants past the historic homes district to the lighthouse for the tour and then return to the Depot Museum.
Each tour is limited to 25 participants, ten years of age or older. There is no handicap access to the lighthouse. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tour. The tour price is $15 for Society members, $20 for non-members.
