Lil Yachty "Bring It Back"

With prom season underway, Lil Yachty transforms his new video “Bring It Back” into an ’80s themed high school party.

Donning a lime green tuxedo, Yachty flexes his sporty dance moves, takes pictures with his crew, and even jumps on-stage to give a special performance to his prom date. “You’ve been gone for too long / it’s time to come home / you need to bring it back,” sings the 19-year-old. Despite the somber lyrics, Yachty wraps up his action-filled night with a kiss at his date’s front doorstep.

Earlier this week, the self-proclaimed “King of the Teens” was the talk of social media after  his conversation with Joe Budden . Sparked by Budden’s comments regarding Yachty’s standing in hip hop , the two spoke on the matter and addressed the young star’s motives.

Instead of consuming himself in Twitter drama, Yachty is keeping his foot on the gas. “Bring It Back” serves as Lil Boat’s third single off his debut album Teenage Emotions . He previously released “Hurley” and his Migos-assisted track “Peek a Boo.” With his album release date set for May 26, Yachty is preparing to embark on his newly announced Teenage Tour, in support of his project. The tour will launch Aug. 11 in Dallas, TX and conclude Oct. 20 in Atlanta, GA. Tickets go on-sale Friday, May 12 at 10 a.m. EST on his website.

Lil Yachty Plots Summer Tour, Channels the Eighties in ‘Bring it Back’

By Elias Leight

Elias Leight

Lil Yachty released the new clip for “Bring it Back” on Friday and announced a tour that will bring him to 27 different venues around the country in August, September and October.

Although Yachty was born in 1997, he is in full-on 1980s pop mode on “Bring it Back,” which features cascades of drums that would make Phil Collins proud. The crisp instrumentation and mathematically precise arrangements serve as a backdrop for Yachty’s tale of lost love. “You’ve been gone too long,” he sings repeatedly. “I know you’re happy where you at, but you was happier with me.”

The video is set at what looks like a high school prom, with balloons and dancing couples everywhere. Despite Yachty’s mournful lyrics, he is the life of the party, dancing on a table in a magnificent green suit and leading “the Love Boat” band.

Yachty releases his major-label debut, Teenage Emotions , on May 26th. In August, he kicks off a tour in Dallas, Texas. After touching down in cities around the country – including New Orleans, New York, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles – Yachty wraps up his live dates with a performance in his hometown of Atlanta on October 20th.

Lil Yachty Shares New 'Teenage Emotions' Track "Bring It Back"

Lil boat expresses his pop side..

Lil Yachty Bring It Back

After connecting with Pollari, Larry League, and 808 Mafia on  “Speedin!” and taking part in the video for DJ Cassidy’s “Honor,” Lil Yachty serves up one more new track from his debut studio album. Following up the previously-released, Migos-assisted Teenage Emotions single “Peek A Boo,” Lil Yachty dabbles in melodic pop to deliver “Bring It Back.” While songs like this won’t win over critics like Joe Budden , they should aid in Yachty’s attempts to branch out into other genres and styles. Judging by the tracks Yachty has used to preview Teenage Emotions , we’re going to receive a pretty diverse musical experience once May 26 rolls around.

You can stream Lil Yachty’s “Bring It Back” below.

Lil Yachty Performs “Bring It Back” on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

Just hours before unleashing his  Teenage Emotions  album onto the world, Lil Yachty popped up on  Jimmy Kimmel Live!   to perform " Bring It Back ," a single he dropped a few weeks ago.

Continuing the nostalgic vibes of the 1980s-inspired song, Yachty rocks what appears to be the same prom outfit he wore in his "Bring It Back" video , which he released shortly after he dropped the song. Of course, it's fitting, because the track sounds like Lil Boat's version of Simple Minds' "Don't You (Forget About Me)."

Matching Yachty's prom-theme, the live band also rocks formal prom attire as they play and Yachty commands the stage—which is something he's become pretty good at. Overall, this is a good look for Yachty and an even better way to celebrate the release of his debut album.

Speaking of Lil Boat's debut album, it checks in at a hearty 21 tracks in length, and features production from the likes of Pierre Bourne, Diplo, Lex Luger, WondaGurl and more. All in all, there are plenty of speaker-thumping anthems to balance out the more relaxed feel of "Bring It Back."

Yachty's debut album has him positione to make more of a splash in the music industry than ever before. Speaking with us for the Spring Edition of XXL Magazine , Lil Boat said he wasn't wasting any opportunities.

"Well, like I said, in this game, I haven’t been here that long and I was extremely poor, you know what I’m saying? Real broke. No money ever, so it’s a blessing and I’m just thankful to be in this position in life. I never take this moment for granted," Yachty said at the time.

Lil Yachty Shares "Bring It Back" Video, Announces Teenage Tour

Check out the latest single off of Lil Yachty's upcoming debut album 'Teenage Emotions.'

lil yachty bring it back

View this video on YouTube

While we wait for Lil Yachty’s Teenage Emotions   to drop, the 19-year-old rapper has blessed fans with another single and video off his debut album. The track is called “Bring It Back,” which is fitting considering how heavy it goes on the 1980s sounds. Even the lyrics have a John Hughes -esque vibe, as it finds the new-school MC yearning for the girl he lost—and, appropriately, the video is set at a prom.

“You know I been missin' your smell/I been missin' the way you raise hell/I been missin' the way your stories tell/I mean it when I told you, your skin was so golden I miss it,” Yachty sings over the mid-tempo beat.

“Bring It Back” is the third single off Teenage Emotions , following “Harley” and the Migos-assisted “Peek a Boo.” Judging by this latest release, Lil Boat will offer a wide-range of sounds in the upcoming album. You can stream the new single on Apple Music, purchase it now on iTunes , and watch the video above.

Early Friday morning, Yachty also announced the dates for his Teenage Tour this summer. The North American tour starts on August 11 in Dallas, and goes through October 20, when it ends in Atlanta.

Updated Tour Flierrrr pic.twitter.com/lp3eSixHy3 — C.V Thomas (@lilyachty) May 5, 2017

During a, uh, heated discussion on Complex’s Everyday Struggle , Yachty discussed Teenage Emotions and how he approached it much differently than his previous projects, especially when it came to the album’s cover art.

“I just took it more seriously,” he said, before explaining whom he was trying to reach with the cover. “The message is just to believe in yourself, to love yourself. Basically, it’s just showing all sides of life. She has vitiligo. She’s like an emotional girl. We got obesity. And then we have same-sex love […] My music is basically to stay positive and just to love yourself. I’m the outcast of the hip-hop game. These are all outcasts on this cover. And now all I’m basically saying is you can be yourself and still be OK with it.”

Teenage Emotions is available for pre-order now. The album is set to drop May 26.

Lil Yachty Shuts Down Playboi Carti Sound Comparisons

Earlier this week, Kai Cenat previewed an unreleased song from Lil Yachty during his livestream. After fans accused the “A Cold Sunday” artist of copying Playboi Carti’s cadence, he decided to respond on Twitter yesterday (March 20) evening.

“Biting him? How did I bite him? The beat? If that’s the case, I [have] been workin’ with Cardo since 2019 or 2020 on record. Y’all fans be smoking the strongest d**k,” Yachty quote-tweeted a social media user’s shade. The original post that he responded to read, “Carti can’t try one new sound without rappers immediately biting him. He’s generational.”

Cardo, who’s known for producing songs for Drake, Travis Scott, and Kendrick Lamar, has worked on several of Carti’s recent releases. The Grammy-winning beatmaker is responsible for “H00DBYAIR,” “KETAMINE,” “ EVILJ0RDAN ,” and “BACKR00MS,” all of which are expected to appear on the musician’s next album.

Unfortunately for Yachty, people pointed out more alleged similarities than just the beat. One account wrote, “The song is terrible. The beat is a ‘H00DBYAIR’-type beat. Your flow is an obvious attempt at a Carti flow, and you used a ‘what’ ad-lib in the same cadence [that] Carti uses.”

Yachty also dismissed accusations of him copying Carti last year. In July 2023, DJ Akademiks claimed the Whole Lotta Red artist “made him change his entire sound” during a livestream . The music commentator further alleged that records like “Poland” and “Strike (Holster)” drew influence from the Georgia native.

However, Yachty quickly pointed out, “[You are] so insane. I didn’t tell [you] this at all. Stop drinking, bro. I said [Tyler, The Creator] encouraged me to take that route.”

In 2023, the QC rapper put out Let’s Start Here. , which featured Justine Skye, Teezo Touchdown, Daniel Caesar, Diana Gordon, and Fousheé. It saw him venturing into psychedelic rock and spawned songs like “drive ME crazy!” and “pRETTy.”
