Oceanco Infinity delivered to its owner

Custom superyacht builder Oceanco celebrated a milestone with the recent delivery of Infinity. The 384-foot motoryacht is the largest ever built by the Dutch yard, and perhaps even more noteworthy is that it’s the largest ever to come from the Netherlands, which has an impressive roster of superyacht builders.

The 54-foot beam gave interior designers Sinot Yacht Architecture and Design, partnering with David Kleinberg Design Associates, many thousands of square feet to work with. Oceanco didn’t release any images of the interior, but said that it will consist of accommodations for up to 16 guests, an extensive wellness area with spa, sauna, gym and yoga studio, and what it called “best-in-class” crew quarters.

The yard paid particular attention to lowering noise across the yacht. The project underwent a specialized development process for the hull and propulsion systems to minimize vibration when Infinity is running, but also for active stabilization when held in place by GPS for long periods. There’s a growing science to ensuring the hull shape, which was designed by Lateral Naval Architects, delivers hydrodynamic efficiency. Yacht-builders like Oceanco see this as key to lowering carbon emissions across the segment.

“She is the result of impressive teamwork and represents the true power of co-makership that is central to all our projects,” said Oceanco CEO Marcel Onkenhout in announcing the delivery.

Besides the landmark Infinity , Oceanco is also working on the sailing yacht, project Y721, linked to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos . The 417-footer, expected to launch this summer, will be the world’s largest sailing yacht.

"People who charter a yacht tend to want as many experiences as they can in a short space of time. It’s essentially a vacation in compressed format, so the yacht needs to collaborate with you in that. You need lots of different places to eat on board, so every day offers something different. The yacht also needs to make getting ashore easy, for meals on the beach and excursions, so it feels like you never do the same thing twice." - Espen Øino

Jay Aberdoni reveals new 73m superyacht concept Day One

Designer Jay Aberdoni has revealed his latest superyacht concept, the 73.3-metre Day One.

Aberdoni describes Day One's exterior as having a "dominant minimalism [...] only suited for the nonconformists". The yacht benefits from low bulwarks and an extensive use of glass that provides far-reaching views and "enhances the living experience" onboard.

This focus on lived experience can be seen in the yacht's indoor-outdoor layout, with fully retractable sliding doors allowing easy access to Day One's large al fresco spaces.

Accommodation is for 11 guests across six cabins, including a forward-facing owner's cabin with an "infinity lounge" comprising a dedicated bow terrace, a Jacuzzi and a set of recessed sunbeds.

Leisure highlights include a helipad, a beach club gym and spa, a cinema room and a spacious upper deck terrace. The upper deck is open plan and features a television lounge, bar-style seating and several sofas that are arranged around a dip pool.

Meanwhile, the concealed tender garage can be unfolded to create an extended outdoor terrace when at anchor, with a similar sunbathing setup created by opening the transom. This also allows the lower deck lounge and dining area to become semi-al fresco and benefit from ocean views.

Jay Aberdoni most recently shared Arrakeen with BOAT International .

The spaceship-inspired concept has a Jacuzzi only accessible from the owner's cabin, found through a glass hatch in the foredeck.

The redesigned, 2025 Infiniti QX80 goes on sale this summer. It's the start of a series of ... [+] introductions aimed at moving the brand upscale.

Nissan’s luxury brand, Infiniti , is pushing its brand image upscale, with a series of new vehicles jammed with high-tech features, starting with the 2025 Infiniti QX80 , which goes on sale this summer.

The big, three-row SUV made its press-preview debut in the run-up to the current New York International Auto Show , which ends April 7.

“It’s the most luxurious and advanced vehicle ever introduced at the company,” said Jose Roman , senior vice president and global head of Infiniti. He is also senior vice president, Global Sales, for parent Nissan Motor Co.

The standard engine is a twin-turbo, 3.5-liter V-6 that generates 450 hp at 5,600 rpm, and 516 ft.-lbs. of torque, at 3,600 rpm — more capable than the eight-cylinder engine it replaces.

Sticker price for the 2025 Infiniti QX80 starts at $84,445 for the so-called “Pure” trim and equipment package, including $1,995 destination and handling. The top-of-the line “Autograph” grade is $112,590, with destination and handling.

The near- to medium-term Infiniti product plan includes at least three more new vehicles, Roman said.

Next up after the 2025 QX80 is the Infiniti QX65. That’s a four-door crossover based on the Infiniti QX60. Also in the pipeline are two EVs, a sedan based on the Infiniti Vision Qe Concept, and a crossover based on the Infiniti Vision QXe Concept.

The 2025 Infiniti QX80 is imposing, with a higher hood, and exterior styling with long lines that run from front to back. “Our new baby is quite large,” said Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti Global Design senior vice president.

He said luxury touches include optional heated and ventilated seats for the first two rows, and optional heated seats for the third row. “There is not a bad seat in this vehicle,” including the third row, Albaisa said.

Infiniti says the 2025 Infiniti QX80 is the first to offer customizable interior lighting with 64 different colors to choose from.

It also has available speakers in the front headrests that are set up electronically so that even without headphones, only the front-seat passengers can hear phone calls, or turn-by-turn directions from the navigation system.

The idea is to avoid disturbing rear-seat occupants who may be napping or listening to their own infotainment. Infiniti calls the feature Individual Audio. “You are the only one to hear it,” Albaisa said.

First Look: The 2025 Infiniti QX80 Gets an Overdue Makeover

Before we delve into a deep design dive of the just-unveiled 2025 Infiniti QX80, a personal disclaimer: I’ve never been a fan of Infiniti styling. Not once have I put the marque’s sedans, let alone SUVs, and especially its large SUVs, on a short, or even long list of favorites. Something about their bulging headlamps, bulbous body panels, and stylistic overreach has long struck me as trying a bit too hard. Nothing personal against the talents of design boss Alfonso Albaisa or his team; Infiniti sheetmetal just hasn’t been my cup of tea. And so it was with some resignation that I trekked across traffic-clogged Los Angeles to lay eyes on the new QX80 and hear its design story from the responsible parties.

The massive sport ‘ute presents itself rather differently in the flesh than I expected it to. First, the biggest Infinity now breaks new ground by starting at $82,450— a premium of around 15 percent over last year’s model, with the top trim level beginning at $110,595.

The QX80’s looks are commensurately revised to be smoother, sleeker, and more contemporary than the complex curves presented before. “You’ll see the high front and then that line very gently tapering down, so you get all the big power and then a sense of fluidity,” Albaisa says. Yet even if it’s less visually clunky than its predecessors, it’s still a bit much to take in. The smooth nose and shoulder-high hoodline recall the brutalism of the Cadillac Escalade , and perhaps the even more grandiose, battery-powered Escalade IQ .

Up front is a new grille pattern that senior design director Taisuke Nakamura says was inspired by the towering bamboo forests that dwarfed him during his childhood in Kyoto. The forced perspective indeed resembles what a kid would see looking up at the skyscraper-like shoots, a neat visual reference of curved linearity. Below that honking hood is a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6, which replaces the naturally aspirated 5.6-liter V-8. It’s hard to argue with the downsized engine, as it offers an additional 50 hp and 103 ft lbs of torque from the previous iteration, for a total of 450 hp and 516 ft lbs of torque.

The vibe outside is more unified and streamlined than before, with conventional door handles replaced by flush grips that extend and retract automatically. The greenhouse incorporates blackout trim across the A, B, C, and D pillars to tie everything together more tightly; at the rear, a strip of stainless-steel trim adds a raised edge to the beltline for a bit of character amidst an otherwise minimalist silhouette.

Inside, things are a bit more ornate; the top trim level that I checked out had open-pore ash wood embedded with thin strips of laser-etched aluminum. The semi-aniline leather seats offer a novel quilting pattern, with recessed surfaces that are created by hidden stitches on the reverse side. And there’s up to 30 percent more cargo volume than before, at least when the third row is folded down.

“We wanted the cabin to look like a glass house,” Albaisa says, and indeed there is a good amount of visibility from the interior, which can seat up to 8 passengers depending on configuration. (The air suspension can drop the vehicle nearly 3 inches for easier ingress.) The twin 14.3-inch screens add a techy touch (which always runs the risk of quickly becoming outdated) separated by a thin 6 mm gap. Below is a 9-inch touchscreen for additional adjustments. The small selection of buttons and controls include a physical volume knob, a welcome alternative to the haptic sliders and touchscreen-only setups that are currently all the rage. And on offer in the higher-end variants is an ultra-wide front view camera that enables occupants to see what the vehicle is driving over.

After inspecting it from bow to stern, and questioning its creators, I gave an honest ponder to whether the QX80’s extreme makeover could get me to view Infiniti more favorably. On the one hand, the QX80 has reworked many of the elements that irked car enthusiasts like me about the brand. But is it good enough to compete against stalwarts in the segment, such as the Cadillac Escalade and Mercedes-Benz GLS? The jury’s still out, as we haven’t yet driven this behemoth.

With its new plus-sized pricing, though, the QX80 had better take a step up in driving dynamics if it’s going to compete against the big boys. It appears to be improved, but this SUV is going up against some major players that have been at the top of their game for far longer.
