Fidelis is a custom sailing yacht launched in 2011 by Perini Navi in Viareggio, Italy and most recently refitted in 2016.

Credited with a combination of technical brilliance and first class design, Perini Navi has always been in a class of its own. In 1982, unable to find a yacht suited to his personal concepts and ideas, Fabio Perini designed and built the first prototype of what would prove to be the most successful series of large sailing yachts in the world.

Fidelis measures 56.00 metres in length, with a max draft of 9.73 metres and a beam of 11.52 metres. She has a gross tonnage of 497 tonnes.

Fidelis has an aluminium hull with an aluminium superstructure.

Her interior design is by Perini Navi.

Fidelis offers vast areas for relaxation and enjoyment of the life on deck, featuring two cockpits, in fore, one aft. The fore cockpit is created around the main mast and has two 'L' shaped couches seating up to twelve guests, as well as two removable tables. This area also has a waxed canvas awning for protection from the sun and built-in lighting for evening enjoyment.

The aft cockpit has a well-protected dining area with a table for twelve and a lounging area with three couches, two armchairs and a coffee table. There is also a guest head and a semi-circular staircase, protected and embellished by a custom-built glass wall, that leads up to the flying bridge. This bridge area has been completely re-modeled compared to her sister ships in that it has a wide sunning and lounging area aft with two central seats from which to enjoy the view, a dining area and the steering stations with sail and engine controls.

Perini Navi's architects are responsible for the contemporary, refined, clean lines of Fidelis Yachts interior. Stained walnut, wengé, parchment, maple, teak, steal, marble and leather were all used to create the beautiful and elegant interior of the vessel.

The main saloon, designed as a light-filled open space, is divided into two areas by an unusual central element that houses both the steel and wenge staircase that leads to the lower deck and two elegant sliding glass doors that separate the living and dining areas.

Fidelis features an aluminium hull and superstructure with an optimised displacement of 545 tons and a tonnage of 497 tons. The ketch sail plan by Perini Navi's Mast Division measures 1,500 square metres. Both the main and the mizzen are in aluminium and are respectively 58.37 and 47.97 metres high. The booms are both in carbon fibre and have in-boom furling systems.

Sailing Yacht Fidelis reaches a maximum speed of 15.5 knots and has a range of 3,500 nautical miles at the cruising speed of 12.5 knots.

She offers a full beam master cabin plus four additional queen cabins, two of which also have retractable pullmans berths. The large, full-beam stateroom has a double bed at the center, an office starboard and a couch port. The four guest cabins all have queen-sized beds and two of these also have retractable pullman berths and wide couches that can become beds. Fidelis offers excellent accommodation and her configuration with 5 double cabins is exceptional.

Tenth of the 56m series, S/Y Fidelis never stopped sailing since she was delivered, from the Amazon river to Desolation island and Australia, rounding both Capes. S/Y Fidelis is a true example of the Perini Navi spirit. The owners are very good friends of the Perini Navi family and were extensive charterers before choosing to create their very own Perini Navi. S/Y Fidelis has very contemporary interiors.

56 meter Perini Navi Fidelis Yacht is up for Sale

A superb collaboration between two world-renowned design companies, Perini and Ron Holland Design, the yacht was built by the Perini Navi Italian shipyard, as their 51st project, being the ultimate in the 56 meter series. The Perini Navi Fidelis is a great example of good usage of space, comprising a large deck, two large outdoor areas and two cockpits, all of them generous.

To give you an idea, only the fore-cockpit can accommodate up to 12 guests, fondling them with two large L-shaped sofas, as well as detachable tables that can be removed and the place converted into a terrace to offer the greatest of views.

The second cockpit includes three more sofas and two armchairs, perfect location to enjoy your cocktail, plus it combines great panoramas with the possibility of al fresco dining, with enhanced privacy. Some lounge areas and sun-bathing spots are set on the fly bridge, on the leading stairs.

The yacht also features an owner’s quarters with office and couch ports areas, a generous bathtub, a private shower area and a central dressing room, as well as four guest cabins with queen-size beds and two Pullmans, en-suite bedroom with a large shower, couch and desk area.

The interior is built of fine materials, like marble, walnut wood, steel and lots of leather, while the main cabin / saloon can be taken either as a living room or a dining area. The amenities list includes a huge flat-screen television, games and cards area on the starboard and simply the option of spending some time with your closest ones.

It is known affectionately by many Tasmanians as "the little blue boat", and has floated alone next to the Brooker Highway at Montrose Bay over the decades.

Sea Breeze, its official name, was built by Robin Attrill in his Montrose backyard in the early 1970s.

His son Colin Attrill said the boat was launched at Macquarie Wharf in 1976.

"It's been on the mooring in Montrose Bay ever since, and that's why it's such an iconic little blue boat," he said.

Tasmanians curious about 'little blue boat'

The boat is an object of fascination for Brooker Highway motorists and foreshore walkers due to it seemingly never moving.

Colin Attrill said it was "absolutely amazing" the number of people who would stop and talk to him about the boat when he was launching the dinghy to go and check on it.

"The number of people that talk to me that are walking past and go 'that boat has been there forever' and 'it was there when I was going to school or every day when I've been driving to work'," he said.

"Some people say they've never seen it move. Well it used to move all the time.

"Of late it's slowed up, we're all busy and dad has slowed up. We lost mum and once that happened it impacted on family activities."

Tough decision to sell

Its owner is now 91 and the boat has not been sailed for about 10 years.

Colin Attrill said the family had recently made the tough decision to try to sell the boat.

"Dad isn't well and he's gotten old, which we all do, and the boat's got old," he said.

"Anyone who knows about a timber boat knows that they need maintenance."

Mr Attrill said the family used to put the boat on the slip at least once a year to clean and antifoul it, and do any repairs.

"But the past few years Dad has been unable to do anything, and the boat unfortunately has just sat on the mooring," he said.

He said the family decided it was time for the boat to have a new owner.

"Nobody is using it, it needs a new owner who will give it the time and get the enjoyment out of it that we had growing up," he said.

"It's a great boat, and there are many years left. Wooden boats just last."

'Next phase' for the boat

The Attrill family is full of passionate sailors and Robin's brother Peter represented Australia in sailing at the Helsinki Olympics in 1952 — Tasmania's fifth Olympian and the first to represent the state in sailing.

When Robin finished building the 25-foot river cruiser, known by the family as The Breeze, it was used for trips away around Hobart.

"We used to have family trips down the channel, down to Cygnet, down to Dover, and all places in between fishing and weekends away," he said.

"We also used to go to events in Hobart like the Hobart Regatta, the Sandy Bay Regatta. We'd be down the river at any chance, or up the river. She made it to New Norfolk a couple of times.

"The boat was all over the place, wherever we could."

Mr Attrill said it would be a sad day when the boat left Montrose Bay after almost 50 years.

"We will see where it goes and where it ends up and what's the next phase for the boat," he said.

Over the years its owner has been keeping a watchful eye on it just a matter of metres away, across the Brooker Highway from his Montrose home of more than 70 years.

"He's always been there. He'd open the blinds in the morning in the kitchen and look out the window and there's the boat," son Colin said.

"It's always been a part of his life."
