XM Yachting

XM Yachting was formed in 1977 when 2 sailors set up their own chandlery manufacturing and distribution business. Based in East Sussex for just over 20 years, In 2001 it was bought out to new owners. The move to their new Head Quarters in Hedge End, near Southampton only came about a few years later at the end of October 2003.

The XM Yachting range has increased dramatically in its lifetime and now includes our own manufactured products such as the XM Quickfit Lifejacket, XM Liferafts, the well established XM Clothing range and the recently launched XM Batteries. But to provide an all round one stop service for our customers we have teamed up with an array of top brand specialist suppliers assuring Chandler’s in the UK and abroad have a brand name that they can rely on.

XM Yachting は1977年2人のセーラーがイギリス南部のEast Sussexと言う古城のある高級マリンリゾート地で自分達の店で作り始めたことに始まります。セーリングギアに厳しい目をもつセーラーが多いヨットの本場ともいえる英国で生まれ育ったXMブランドは40年以上の歴史があり、ヨーロッパのセーラーのみならず、近年国内でもそのブランドが知られてきました。

頑固なイギリス人が品質、機能、耐久性を認めたXMシーウエアー。 最近のファッション性重視と言うよりはあくまで品質、機能最優先を基本コンセプトに作られています。またセーリングとは絶対楽しくあるべきであると言うことを念頭において作られています。

Tout comme la veste offshore, cette salopette offshore est disponible en noir et en rouge de la taille xs à la taille xxl.

Nexus Marine appoints new distributor

Sweden's Nexus Marine has announced that XM Yachting has replaced the Silva Group as its sole distributor of instrumentation, VHF radios and associated navigation equipment in Britain.

Nexus, which was created following its de-merger from the Silva Group in 2006, says that the change in distribution stems from Silva's decision to distance itself from marine electronics. The two companies will, however, continue to work together on the development and manufacture of a number of products, including marine compasses.

"We're delighted to be working in partnership with XM Yachting," says Nexus sales manager Jonas Magner. "They have an unrivalled distribution capability across the UK, and the Nexus Marine product range will fit in very well with their existing brand portfolio.

"We have an exciting product pipeline currently under development, and a solid order book based on the NX and NXR instrumentation systems that we introduced in early 2007," he adds. "We look forward to showing a number of new products at METS next month and bringing them to market in early 2008."

XM Yachting, which is based in Hedge End near Southampton, has more than 20 years' experience in distributing to the marine retail market. The Navimo Group company also manufactures its own products, including the XM Quickfit Lifejacket, XM Liferafts, the XM Clothing range and the recently launched XM Batteries.

Liferaft service?

Hi, I have a BF marine liferaft which was packed by Zodiac, who now say they sold that part of the company to XM Yachting. I am in Corsica and can't find any trace of XM Yachting! Can anyone shed any light on who can service this?????? Cheers PC

God! I have had this liferaft for 3 years and the company has changed hand's more times than a Kings Cross hooker, are they that bad?  

Well, XM have changed hands once.

Does it matter who does the service? We took our liferaft down to the local chandlers (Solent Marine in Gosport) and they sent it away for us and we got it back a few days later good as new. I think they sent it to Ocean Safety for testing and service.  

Does it matter who does the service? In our case yes! Now I have found out its Plastimo it does not have to be sent as they vist........If it was XM it would have to be sent to the UK ( I am in Corsica ) http://www.corsicanholidays.com  

Now that you've had your question answered, can you tell us anything about Calvi harbour? (I assume that's where you are based and that's the pic on your website?). By the way, very nice website - very professional - and nice 'villa'.  

Had mine serviced in marseille last year, manufacture is Bfa Augsburg, very important that its serviced by an agent, mine had a modification to the valves carried out at no cost to me. Might be worthwhile contacting manufacturer by tel. or whatever they do have a web address unfortunately all my details are on board. brgds John R

Re: Liferaft service? and Calvi harbour Hi Lemain, Thank you for your compliments on our site. Yes we are based in Calvi year round, the marina is not bad pricewise if you have an annual contract, the day rate in July/August is quite frightening though (approx 60 Euros for a 40 footer inc water and electricity). From a service point of view it's ok, there are two chandlers and a large yard with travel hoist, the only thing they don't have is an outlet to service sails which is bit of a pain as when the wind blows a strong mistral you get a lot of sahara sand and it gets everywhere. In July & August it can be very hard to get a place but they lay about 250 buoys out in the bay and there are a couple of nice anchorages close by. From a aesthetic point of view it's very beautiful, with a backdrop of a snow-capped mountain range and the town itself with attractive waterfront and medieval citadel, and for those who like a good beach there is about 6km of the stuff. Lots of resturants, bars and 2 large supermarkets, one will deliver more or less to your boat. http://www.corsicanholidays.com

60 YEARS : QUITE AN ADVENTURE !

Plastimo was born  with the growth of modern recreational boating In 1963, Antoine Zuliani believes that a real opportunity exists to make yachting more accessible to a larger public and creates Plastimo on the Lorient fishing harbour.  A 24-page catalogue showcasing 80 products : Plastimo enjoys a 25 to 30 % growth every year until 1975 and employs 35 people in 1964. The "Plein Ciel" buoyancy aid is a must-have on board and becomes the uniform standard in the most prestigious French sailing schools until the '80's.

Safety at sea The brand's DNA stands out immediately. Plastimo's awareness grows quickly in France with lifejackets and fenders. The initial family business turns into an industrial company with its own R & D department. Plastimo is awarded the Hermine d'Or de l'Exportation in 1970 (golden award for export activity). The catalogue now features 2000 products out of which 85 % are manufactured in Lorient by a 150-staff team.

The Navigation department is created in 1972. The launching of the Contest compass is a major milestone : the first magnetic compass entirely manufactured in plastic materials, featuring the unique double reading (from both cockpit and cabin). This ambassador product contributes largely to the brand's nternational awareness and positions Plastimo as the first European compass manufacturer.  In 1974, the compass range includes 20 models made from complex composite materials, specifically designed for recreational boating and costing 3 to 4 times less than traditional instruments in brass and mineral glass. 

First liferaft Capitalising on its unique experience in sewing and welding coated fabrics, Plastimo innovates and launches its patented tube-within-a-tube construction.  This technology is still exclusive today and guarantees technical reliability and durability. From then on, Plastimo will always be THE pioneering liferaft manufacturer who innovates and sets the tone in the industry : vacuum-packed liferaft, assisted firing head...

Compass design wins awards The Offshore compass is awarded first prize for Industrial Design from professional jurys in France, Germany, USA and Japan.

Pioneering the inflatable lifejacket technology Anticipating the future of safety on board, Plastimo launches its first inflatable lifejacket model : the Admiral lifejacket.  French authorities will authorize inflatable jackets on French recreational boats only in 1995 : Plastimo already has a complete range on shelf, validated and appreciated by export customers. 

Plastimo pioneer partner of Lorient, epicentre of the Sailing Valley  Right from the very inception of a professional racing hub in Lorient - La Base, Plastimo is at the forefront of the project. Factory and offices are historically there and Plastimo organises its international logistic platform in bunker K2.

The Plastimo factory in Lorient becomes ISO 9001 certified for the design, manufacture and servicing of liferafts.

Around the world with one single compass !  Plastimo is the first compass manufacturer who integrates universal balance technology on its compass (i.e. double-dip) : a real technical achievement which facilitates product management for the trade and makes choosing the right compass a no-brainer for round-the-world sailors.
