Feadship super-yacht: Escape to the future

superyacht escape

World-leading Dutch superyacht and pleasurecraft builders , Feadship unveils its designs for its latest build, Escape. It offers next-level luxury on the water, featuring unique and cutting edge embellishments to embrace the concepts of freedom and sustainability; and elevates private super-yachting on the high seas up to the next big luxury travel trend.

With travel coming to a bit of a pause, the discussion turns once again to what the “future of travel holds.” With uncertainty back in the driving (yachting, or flying) seat in the travel industry, we’re all looking into our crystal balls again, trying to predict what comes next. There has been many a conversation about transformative, ultra-experiential and sustainable travel. And to add to this, there has been a small, but vocal corner of the industry that is holding up private yachting as the answer, asking us to embrace the wide-open spaces that the earth’s oceans give us ; not to mention travel that is relatively ungoverned by the uncertainties over whether borders are open and other such pandemic-time directives.

So you can imagine our excitement when we heard about ‘Escape’, the next generation – no – the ‘now’ generation (designs are complete and ready to build), of luxury yachting from Dutch shipbuilders Feadship. The 110-metre superyacht features a sleek, futuristic exterior; just the tip of the iceberg (sorry, maybe not the best of analogies), to the surprises that are onboard.

The stylish and super sleek exterior of Feadship’s ‘Escape’ is overshadowed by the spectacular, seawater ‘moon pool’ that provides an all-round view of the underwater world. It comes complete with a glass elevator (eat your heart out, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ) to get you up close and personal with marine life. And like something out of a sci-fi movie, the pool doubles as a submarine landing zone, to enable even deeper ocean-exploration.

Moon pool Feadship Escape Superyacht

Up top, a sustainable greenhouse allows owners to grow their own herbs and vegetables; meaning that plant-based or vegetarian-leaning eaters can stay at sea for weeks on end. And should you need to stretch your sea legs, myCopter (a personal drone-tech helicopter) can take to the sky when needed. The yacht will feature 700 square metres of solar panelling, which is an amazing innovation for a craft of this size. It is part of an armoury of energy-efficient innovations, including hybrid propulsion and an enthalpy wheel that mimics a geothermal air conditioning system, using the ships own exhaust and waste heat. They’re calling it ‘Breathe’.

None of this, of course, is at the expense of abject luxury. You can expect the yacht to deliver on all modern and future conveniences as standard. Is there a holodeck of Star Trek fame? We wouldn’t be surprised if there is, but we’ll leave you to ask that of Feadship when you place your order. Price on application.

Winter Superyacht Escapes

superyacht escape

As we know, travelling in 2021 has been more challenging than in previous years. However, if we take the extra steps required for these extraordinary times, there is no need to miss out. With forecasts expecting an extremely busy 2022, make sure to book these winter superyacht escapes before you miss out.

The Med season is drawing to a close, or maybe you’re finishing up a boss trip in Chile and are wondering which destinations to suggest next to your boss? Look no further as Superyacht charter specialists West Nautical have put together five of the most stunning suggestions for winter superyacht escapes:

The first place we often think of when we hear the word paradise is the Caribbean. It is the ultimate destination for relaxation and beauty.

If guests seek some winter sunshine and entertainment, these Islands are the place for their winter superyacht escapes! With over 5,000 islands to explore and limitless open water, the Caribbean is an ocean lover’s playground. Thrill-seekers can enjoy water sports and diving in the reefs and cays. If that’s not your guests’ scene, they can lay back and relax on one of the secluded white-sand beaches.

Visit Gustavia Harbour in St Barts for fantastic shopping, nightlife, restaurants, and European comforts. Enjoy the golden sunset in St Lucia or retreat to the deserted beaches of Anegada, surrounded by their native pink flamingos. The options are endless! Want off the beaten track activities? Why not suggest a day diving at Sculpture Park, a famous dive site in the oceans of Grenada. Or a hike to the Dunn waterfalls in Jamaica.

Another incredible destination in the Caribbean is the British Virgin Islands. They provide an array of beaches, natural seawater pools and coral islands. They have to be seen to be appreciated! Made up of over 60 islands and islets, guests will experience white sand beaches at every turn. Beach bars are located in many popular bays should your guests want to escape the yacht for a drink. There are also many unexplored and uninhabited locations for those moments when guests are looking for ultimate privacy. The BVI’s are one of the world’s most idyllic locations.  It has year-round warm weather and the opportunity to partake in various activities like kite surfing or going on a world-class reef or wreck dive.

Nestled within the Indian Ocean, the Maldives are a tropical nation of 26 atolls. Made up of over 1,190 coral islands and islets, the Maldives offers some of the best cruising in the world. Guests will experience a journey of discovery. Winter superyacht escapes here incorporate white sand beaches, secluded anchorages, and a laid-back pace of life.

The Maldives are the perfect location for a diverse holiday. They are filled with natural beauty, exceptional cuisine, and relaxation at the height of luxury. There are plenty of opportunities to participate in a vast array of water sports activities, including diving, snorkelling, jet-skiing, and paddle boarding. Each island has its own unique beauty making this destination picture-perfect for those Instagram ready holiday snaps.

Suggested activities include a day of snorkelling, diving with stingrays, turtles and a large variety of fish. Or, guests can enjoy an aerial view of the islands from a seaplane. I sland hopping and visiting one of the Maldives’ five-star resorts for the day always goes down a treat. Or maybe guests want to spend their whole charter on board in complete privacy.

For guests looking for an unforgettable winter escape off the beaten track. Suggesting a yacht charter in Antarctica will provide a life-changing adventure. One which very few get to experience.

Antarctica offers an abundance of wildlife and untouched natural scenery that cannot be found anywhere else on the globe. Guests can take part in a nature trek or go ice diving with a specialist instructor. There really is no other place in the world like Antarctica.  This unique destination boasts some of the world’s most exquisite and captivating landscapes that remain largely unexplored. Guests lucky enough to cruise these waters will be some of the few to witness its awe-inspiring nature. They will experience ice waves and astonishing wildlife, including whales, seals and penguins—all basking in the 24-hour sun.

Not to mention, guests will tick the 7th continent off their bucket list.

Winter Superyacht Escapes

An exotic, enchanting and exceptional destination. Cuba is the ultimate place for those who want the serenity of the ocean waves, paired with the vibrant atmosphere of city living. La Havana has a magnificent culture to explore. With its brightly coloured buildings and classic cars.  If guests want lively nightlife, then Cuba is the place for them. Havana is jam-packed with bars and nightclubs. They can dance the night away, listening to live music, all with a fresh mojito in hand! It’s the perfect location for adventurous yachting enthusiasts.

Crystal clear waters, beautiful beaches, and great nightlife. What’s not to love?

Located just off the east coast of Africa, Seychelles are a group of islands renowned for their beaches, palm trees and beautiful landscapes. This archipelago is made up of 115 islands comprising some of the oldest granite islands and low-lying coral atolls and reefs. The Seychelles have a fantastic advantage for cruising because each island is just a short trip away. This provides a range of options to create a diverse holiday and one filled with adventure and relaxation.

The Islands are home to some of the rarest flora and fauna found on Earth. Each island slopes from emerald green rain forests down to white-sand beaches. Then, into turquoise oceans. Seychelles are the first country in the world to officially protect more than 50% of its land within two UNESCO world heritage sites and national parks and nature reserves.

Positive Customer Review: "One of the most memorable parts for me was the launch. I went with my wife, and Benetti had a Roman Catholic priest bless the yacht. It was very beautiful with all the Italian music and then the British national anthem, and it was all very unexpected. I thought I was just going to be putting the boat in the water, but in fact it turned into a very emotional day!" - Owner of a Benetti called motor yacht 11:11

SUPERYACHT LIFE

The Great Escape

The idea of carpe diem – seizing the day – has never had more resonance. It is perhaps one reason for a growing boom in yacht sales as people look to embrace the sheer pleasure of being on the ocean after a torrid year.

As the fresh blossom of spring yields to the warm blue of early summer, it is starting to feel like we might finally be slowly emerging from the frustrations and horrors of the past year. While things are still a long way from normal, those lockdown dreams of open air, sparkling azure water, gentle ocean breezes and the sun on our faces are starting to feel within reach once again. Indeed, the latest figures from the yacht market suggest that more people than ever before are craving that seaborne escape – sales through the end of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021 in the superyacht sector, for example, have broken records. The first three months of 2021 have seen 133 brokerage sales of yachts above 24 metres – a massive 46 per cent increase over the same period in 2020, according to BOAT Pro. Critically, it appears that a lot of those sales are being driven by first-time buyers. But what has suddenly led to this renewed thirst for the ocean?

The obvious assumption would be that yachting has afforded a degree of escape in relative safety amid the pandemic, and that this, in turn, has fuelled sales. As Rob McCallum – founding partner of EYOS Expeditions – explains, with considerable planning some guests have been able to enjoy time on the water even as international travel has proven complicated. “In the beginning, even flying privately, it was very difficult,” he says. “But we’ve managed to keep things going throughout with, for example, our work with DSSV (deep submersible support vessel) Pressure Drop , which has been working in the western Pacific. We’ve had to do 14-day quarantines, but the guests are allowed to do that on the vessel. So people fly in and are met by an agent, and then they’re taken by special vehicle to the dock and get directly on the vessel, doing the same in reverse on their return.”

The Great Escape

However, this perception of a perfect escape that keeps you, your family and friends protected in a self-contained ‘bubble’ might not be the main driver of the surging demand. “For sure, there are a lot of people who have been feeling frustrated over the past 12 months have not been able to move freely, and that has been one catalyst for people stepping forward,” begins Ian Sherwood, a yacht broker with internationally renowned brokerage firm Burgess . “In particular I think there are a lot more first-time buyers at the moment – perhaps those who before were long-term charterers who are taking those first steps into ownership. There are a lot of charter bookings for 2021 that were rescheduled from 2020, meaning some of the charter boats are already very busy, but there’s still uncertainty about 2021 and on top of all that some charter boats may be stuck in the wrong regions which means there is even less availability. I think that has driven a lot of charterers to say, ‘we can’t do what we want to do so maybe being an owner is the answer as we can drive the calendar and know that the boat is always available.”

Of course, this surge to the sea presents interesting problems in itself. While most builders were quick to implement new working practices at the start of the pandemic that not only protected their workforces but also allowed them to keep on top of their pre-pandemic build schedules, a rise in demand naturally is putting pressure on the market. “This, perhaps, is the very tail-end of the 2008 global financial crisis, as the after-effect of that was a dip in production, and subsequently yacht deliveries between 2013 to 2015,” Sherwood explains. “That means there are now fewer five-year-old boats around.”

The Great Escape

There does remain an increasing appeal of yachting as a safe haven escape, but again there are other facets of the past year that are driving interest. “There are very few vacations that are as COVID-19 secure as being on a private yacht – you can fly in privately to a yacht where the crew have been health-screened and pre-quarantined, and there are not many options that can offer that low level of risk or exposure to the virus,” Sherwood offers. “And then there’s the fact that we are becoming more flexible in the wider world, that people are more accepting that we don’t need to be behind a desk, or at least not the desk in our usual office space. A lot of our clients are asking about that – connectivity and office space on board is a big request. The ability to work remotely from a yacht offers a different option to people.”

But fundamentally, perhaps there is an even greater reason or a greater imperative to why so many people have sought yachting – and yachts – as an escape this past year. It is less to do with being the only option, and more to do with a renewed sense of life and a reordering of priorities – a surge of seizing the day, if you will. “I think really it comes down to just why wouldn’t you do your thing?” Sherwood concludes. “After the last 12 months and everything we’ve gone through, if you have the ability to own or to charter a yacht – of any size – then why on earth aren’t you doing it? It’s the perfect time to take the plunge.”

Inside the secretive world of superyachts, where the world's elite gather to relax and broker deals away from prying eyes

  • The rich are buying superyachts in record numbers.
  • A source who's worked on the vessels for years offered Insider an exclusive insight into their appeal.
  • They allow the wealthy to impress and enjoy a life unconstrained by scrutiny and national borders.

Insider Today

The superyacht is the ultimate symbol of wealth, and business is booming.

Driven by a search for escape from the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, sales reached record levels in 2021. Though there was a slight dip in 2022, they still exceeded that of any year prior to 2021,  data from Yachtharbor.com  indicated.

A source who has long worked on the vessels, who requested anonymity to speak candidly, offered Insider an exclusive glimpse into life on board the vessels and insights into their soaring appeal. Insider has independently verified the identity of the source.

What happens on superyachts has long been shrouded in secrecy and the subject of rumor and speculation. Staff on the boats have to sign comprehensive non-disclosure agreements, preventing them from publicly discussing what happens on board.

Even the identity of the owners of many of the vessels is unknown, with the boats often bought through a complex network of offshore companies instead of in the owner's name.

Insider's source said the vessels were a ticket to enter an exclusive club unconstrained by national borders.

"They are the smallest country in the world," he said of the global community of billionaire superyacht owners. "Depending on whose perspective you take, there are 2,800 to 3,000 billionaires," he said. "You have more in common with your fellow billionaires than your fellow countrymen."

The level of wealth of superyacht owners vastly exceeds that of even the sports stars and celebrities occasionally pictured on board. Often, they own properties, businesses, and other assets in a range of countries that superyachts give them seamless access to.

"We're not talking about what you would call 'celebrities.' This is a different wealth group," said the source, adding that there were "multiple zeros" of difference between that of superyacht owners and their famous guests.

Brokering deals in board shorts

On board the vessels, the superrich and their celebrity friends can enjoy a level of privacy, peace, and seclusion they rarely have on dry land where they face pervasive media scrutiny. But the vessels are also places to impress, strengthen contacts, and broker deals, with the informal atmosphere offering unique opportunities to bond.

"I had a fabulous guest — West Coast American family — and they're quite a bit more talkative than a multi-generational European wealth family — and we're talking about the boats and how much it costs," the source said.

The owner of the vessel, the source said, disclosed that such is a deal-making power of the yachts that in "one year on board, it would pay for the boat. It's very hard to say 'no' when you've been on board for a week, and your family's been looked after so incredibly well."

The source said of one trip: "I'm looking at two absolute titans, and you'd be amazed that they're sitting next to each other in board shorts and skanky T-shirts covered in salt having a cup of tea. And you're thinking the deal might not be struck today, but the next time they're on the phone it's going to be a very, very different mood in the conversation."

For other owners, the vessels offer the opportunity to escape the persona and pressures of their professional lives. He described one business leader accustomed to people "kowtowing" him all day getting mercilessly ribbed by old school friends he invited on a trip.

Related stories

"I'll be on the main deck, and his mates from childhood would be calling in every name under the sun, making fun of him. And that, I think, that's the value he got from his boat," he said.

But with vast wealth comes high demands and tantrums. Superyacht owners can be intolerant of even the tiniest error or delay, the source says, and staff operate to precise schedules.

"Do they react because they've been waiting three and a half minutes? They do — really badly," said the source.

The guests lucky enough to be invited on superyachts must also navigate a maze of etiquette to gel with their hosts and other guests. But some are so desperate to impress their wealthy hosts that the results can be excruciating.

"You do get your 'try hards,' and it's just like 'oh no, this is socially awkward,'" said the source.

"Really the story of the day is about the kids playing in the water, and someone's trying to pitch. I've seen it a couple of times — I just walked away with a sense of how they misread the room."

Spy drones and bugging devices

Embarrassing guests are far from the only problems superyacht owners face. The privacy of the vessels and the wealth, fame, and power of their owners and passengers inevitably draw unwelcome attention.

Simon Rowland is a former UK Royal Marines soldier whose company, Veritas, provides comprehensive security for superyachts.

He told Insider that among the most frequent challenges he has to tackle is handling spy drones sent by news organizations to photograph the boats and their wealthy and famous passengers.

"Drones are increasingly a concern for superyacht owners," he said, adding that tabloid news organizations and the superyacht press liked to use the devices to get the "money shot" and take overhead pictures of the boats.

He said some vessels deployed devices to scramble the navigation systems of drones and take them out of the air, but there were question marks over whether this was legal.

An easier solution, he says, is an alarm system alerting passengers to the presence of drones, allowing them time to get off the deck and away from invasive airborne camera lenses.

But drones aren't the only form of covert surveillance Rowlands has to be vigilant of. Spies could try to infiltrate superyachts through crew members or through installing surveillance devices to steal sensitive information on business deals or politics. Particular targets, he says, are vessels known to be frequently chartered by the wealthy.

"You would expect a yacht that looks after the ultra-high wealthy or very high profile people well to engage a company like me to come along and sweep that yacht prior to the occupation to ensure that there's nothing being left on board," said Rowland.

Despite the irritants, the seclusion enjoyed on board a boat far from the shore is set to continue to be a powerful lure for those who have everything money can buy — except the privacy many of us take for granted.

"In a world of long-lens constant paparazzi there is a place for relaxed privacy that many of us take for granted," the source who has worked on the vessels said.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

“Zefira, a magnificent, lean aluminium and carbon 50 metre yacht. A project in which, together with our designers, we put our heart”

Experienced european owners brought together a top team of Dubois, Fitzroy and Tessier to produce their dream yacht: sleek, sophisticated and impressive under sail.

The push for a single level between bridge, saloon and cockpit, combined with ultra-sleek aesthetics, nudged the Dubois design team into new territory. “To get good visibility from the helmstations we had to work hard to lower the accommodation as much as possible, while keeping an open feeling” adds McKeon.

The interior, styled and drawn by Remi Tessier , features a combination of bleached timbers and white leather which results in clean modern lines and provides bright comfortable living areas.

Fitzroy Yachts Zefira

The sea trial was pubblished on Superyacht 31 – spring 2012

Zefira S/Y is one of those few yachts that became an attraction for yacht enthusiasts and professionals  well before she hit the water.

This yacht was designed and built with the experience and passion for sailing boats her owners demonstrated from the start as well as a naval engineering and a project design team from  Ed Dubois studio for the exterior, while Remi Tessier was responsible for all the interiors. Zefira was built in a yard which enjoys a  worldwide  reputation for the construction of large sailing yachts.

fitzroy zefira

With such an opening introduction one can expect nothing less than something absolutely extraordinary, where the term used must be read in its best meaning to underscore something that has really nothing of the ordinary. We had the pleasure of talking with the owners who are currently sailing on their yacht after they had  carried out important work in the design phase with the project team to define specific guidelines and details.

Beyond the highly involving dialogue which ensued with flowing examples  of their own sailing experience and passion, we managed to grasp and better understand the idea behind the project which began with a seven metre sloop and  gradually developed in the course of the following 40 years  of which  many were spent at  sea. Putting words to emotion and feelings is never easy to do and  more so when they are other people’s. In this case however everything was a lot easier for us   thanks to our interviewee’s eloquent communicative capability.

The first point our attention was brought to was that Zefira is the largest sailing y

acht ever designed by Dubois with no fly bridge and built by Fitzroy Yachts in New Zealand.  This may strike our readers as a mere detail, but it is in fact one of the principal fundamentals outlining this project because it translates into flowing external lines and a unique profile when observed sideways on.

The choice  of doing without a fly bridge is somewhat unusual since up until  recently a “fly” had been widely accepted as  a run of the mill thing to have on a sailing yacht beyond a given size, but which nevertheless, Zefira is proud to do without giving cause for, among others ,  the following comment volunteered by some of the designers not involved in the project: “The world of sailing now stands  divided between before Zefira and after Zefira”.

Naturally enough this comment in particular is aimed at the yachts’ profile, which brings to a standstill what had become a consolidated practice on yachts this size. Aesthetics is principally  why the owners decided to do without the fly option as well as for practical reasons  they eloquently highlighted: without one  on a  50 metre sailing boat  there’s a complete total view of both what lies ahead up to the horizon and of the sail plan.

Moreover using a higher windswept and sun scorched horizontal plane rather than the main deck itself is by its very nature something destined to be exploited only sporadically and quite correctly in their opinion doesn’t justify having one.

The thought behind the whole project as the requests submitted to both designers and yard indicated,  were to enjoy a pure thorough bred for its performing lines and technical contents, capable of offering the sort of space and commodities expected when cruising extensively in all weather conditions. At a first glance the goal seems to have been easily achieved, but if  we then go into an in-depth analysis, the comments volunteered by project designers earlier seems surely appropriate. The husband and wife team (the owners) followed up on construction work from the initial stages to completion, working through the more important phases in close contact with the professional teams involved.

According to the owners the best part was witnessing the step by step progress of such an enterprise. We can understand the reasons why and genuinely  hope that in  the future such desire will generate the construction of other such extraordinary ships.

Several International prizes for design and technical contents have been awarded to Zefira. Dubois Naval Architects’ studio is proud of the recognitions bestowed since this is the largest sailing yacht project without a “fly” they’ve ever made so far and also for the passion and creativity expressed time and time again by the owners who incidentally had been the previous owners of another Dubois  project built by Alloy Yachts: Kokomo of London (now Nubero Blau). The challenge taken on by the studio was one that meant blending the huge experience acquired by the owners to innovative aesthetics, with a hull capable of delivering the sea-keeping qualities and performance requested.

The owners wished for a boat that could be another home from home: spacious, with a project design that looked ahead into the future. For this reason the design team was invited by the owners to pay them a visit and to take a look at their house to better understand what they wanted.

The choice of the yard was principally dictated by delivery times even if Fitzroy Yachts had been chosen also in function of preceding work carried out from Dubois projects.

Among some of the clever solutions highlighted by the owners in the course of our conversation we wish to mention the ease in steering they experienced and handling the yacht, of course aided by electronics and important data communication systems capable of monitoring and performing many of the required manoeuvres without hindering visibility.

The rig which is capable of carrying up to 3,000 square metres of canvass is per se a very interesting technical achievement inasmuch as it sports a 63.50 metre mast and can still be defined as being “light”. Obviously there’s a carbon fibre mast and boom, as well as fibre stays that have been purposely chosen to reduce weight high above the waterline which translates into less draught and better performance in breezes.

All of the choices adopted for Zefira mean she is very competitive on the race track even against racers and  in spite of the many commodities she carries with her.  As for the interiors and  much of the work put in by  Remi Tessier designer and the co-owner they enhanced an undoubted feeling of both tranquillity and elegance.

Gauged chromatic variety  meets the discerning eye as it takes in lighter and darker shades of handcrafted woodwork placed without ever causing excessive contrast, followed by polished steel elements and ad hoc lighting which enhances relaxation throughout every area. The space chosen to house each piece of furniture, is fruit of  careful study that has contributed into ensuring an uncompromised degree of comfort in the owners’ suite which is situated in the stern and in each of the three guest cabins as well.

One is a twin while the other two are double each one of them sports its own private bathroom. The crew quarters are situated in the bow area and with space for a lounge and crew mess room, which translates into staff’s quality living standards on board. The yacht’s convivial areas are also well distributed and large to ensure adequate privacy to guests and owners alike.

The electronics and navigation aids installed are the most modern on the market, with data and alarm control systems and displays in each of the two external command /control stations  as well as on the bridge deck as can be expected on a state of the art ship such as this. Dictated by reasons of space we have to limit our text to that which has so far been described even when the meeting with Zefira’s owners was so stimulating  we were prompted  to go further.

Since both of them  described Zefira as being a point of arrival but of departure too, we wish them to continue their research work in the yachting field and to offer us, who knows what other input and ideas in the future. For further information please contact: Angelo Colombo

8 ways jake gyllenhaal's road house remake is better than the 1989 original movie.

The Road House remake improves upon the original in a few key ways, but it still delivers the same adrenaline-fueled action and crowd-pleasing humor.

  • Beautiful locations set the 2024 Road House remake apart from the original, but they also add to the story's depth.
  • Elwood Dalton's backstory as a former UFC fighter improves his character, making him a more tragic hero in the remake.
  • Conor McGregor shines as a compelling villain in the film, bringing a magnetic presence and chaotic glee to the character Knox.

The 2024 remake of Road House is now available on Amazon Prime, and the comparisons to the 1989 remake have already begun. Road House is earning largely positive reviews , with many critics praising the action scenes and Jake Gyllenhaal's performance as Elwood Dalton. Based on the character originally played by Patrick Swayze in 1989, Dalton is a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer in a bar in Florida, only to find that the local biker gang aren't just looking to cause trouble for their own amusement.

Despite Road House 's controversies behind-the-scenes , the remake has earned a higher score on Rotten Tomatoes than the original. Action movie remakes are notoriously hit-and-miss, but Road House manages to deliver the same adrenaline-pumping thrills as the original, but with a few touches which elevate the story. Jake Gyllenhaal's performance and an entertaining film debut from UFC star Conor McGregor are two of the main factors that make Road House a crowd-pleasing remake that improves upon the original.

Road House Review: Doug Liman's Remake Is Bigger, Louder & Slightly Dumber Than The Original

8 the remake has beautiful locations, 2024's road house is set in the florida keys.

The Double Deuce bar in the original Road House is located in a small town in Missouri. It makes more sense for this bar to attract a rowdy clientele, but it isn't the picturesque location that the remake has. The Road House bar in the remake isn't really a roadhouse at all. It's a scenic bar with ocean views. As Frankie tells Dalton, it would be a nice place to get married. The bar isn't the only beautiful location in the movie. Even the evil scheming of the villain takes place on a luxurious yacht.

The scenery isn't just good to look at. It also adds weight to the story of an idyllic town beset by violent gangsters and a corrupt sheriff's department. The villains in Glass Key live in an unspoiled paradise, but they want more. The location also represents the change in Dalton's mental state. Before crossing the bridge to the Keys, he almost lets himself get hit by a train, but the town and its people give him something worth fighting for. The gorgeous scenery is a clever way of representing that.

7 Dalton's Backstory Is More Sympathetic

Elwood dalton was a famous ufc fighter.

Elwood Dalton's past as a UFC fighter means that people know who he is. He would prefer to escape his past, but that isn't easy when the whole world saw him kill a man on YouTube.

In the original Road House, James Dalton is a professional bouncer in New York before he starts working at the Double Deuce in Missouri. The ghost from his past is that he once went too far and killed a man by ripping out his throat. The remake improves upon this same framework, making Dalton's past even more tragic. Elwood Dalton is a former UFC fighter who pummeled an opponent to death in the ring. Before he moves to the Florida Keys, he is using his reputation to pick up easy money at underground MMA events.

Road House 's characters are mostly new creations for the remake. Dalton is a pre-existing character, but Gyllenhaal's version is different to Swayze's. Elwood Dalton's past as a UFC fighter means that people know who he is. He would prefer to escape his past, but that isn't easy when the whole world saw him kill a man on YouTube. His new enemies in Glass Key, and even some of his friends, constantly remind him of the worst moment of his life. This makes him a more tragic hero than James Dalton from the original Road House, although they have a lot in common.

6 Conor McGregor Plays A Compelling Villain

The former ufc champion mixes fighting pedigree with humor.

Conor McGregor isn't the only real-life UFC fighter in Road House , but he certainly has the biggest role. In his feature film acting debut, McGregor plays Knox, the volatile and unpredictable mercenary who is brought in by Brandt's father to clean up his mess and shut down the Road House once and for all. McGregor isn't the greatest actor, but he still has a magnetic presence as a flamboyant villain, and his real-life reputation infuses his fights with even more jeopardy.

From his introduction, strolling naked through a bustling market, to Road House 's post-credits scene when he bursts out of a hospital, McGregor is a major highlight. His action figure strut marks him out as a maverick early on, and he is clearly the biggest threat Dalton has faced even before he lifts a finger. McGregor channels a chaotic sort of glee that movie villains often have when they know they are too physically imposing for anyone to touch them. Knox enjoys violence and he has nothing to lose.

Road House 2024 Soundtrack Guide: Every Song & When They Play

5 the mystery plot keeps things moving, dalton must uncover why the road house is being targeted.

Movies like Road House run the risk of becoming too repetitive. Since so much of the movie's appeal is about action, the story can appear to be a secondary concern. However, the Road House remake highlights the original's failure in terms of plotting. It's by no means a masterpiece of storytelling, but the remake uses several tricks which add up to a more compelling plot. The most important of these is the mystery plot, as Dalton has to figure out why Brandt and his goons are so fixated on the bar.

The mystery gives Dalton the opportunity to play the role of detective, which adds another layer to the movie. He's still every bit the action hero, but he also has to out-think his adversaries. Dalton eventually pieces together the jigsaw and figures out that his problems will continue for as long as Brandt still has investors to repay. The introduction of Knox just shows how desperate Brandt's father is to finish the deal.

4 The Remake Has A Funnier Script

Gyllenhaal is underrated as a comedic actor.

Jake Gyllenhaal has played a few comedic characters in his career, like his wacky animal rights activist in Okja, but he also has a knack for making dramatic roles subtly funnier. This makes his characters feel more well-rounded and human. Road House gives him some great punch lines, and he also brings his comedic talents to some of the movie's less funny moments. Whether he's asking if a man has medical insurance before sending him to the hospital or training his deputy bouncers, Elwood Dalton has an infectious charm.

Patrick Swayze also gets the opportunity to deliver some wry comedic lines in the original Road House. He always has a wise crack when someone says he should be bigger, and his on-screen dynamic with Sam Elliott is irresistibly endearing. But the remake has more than one way of making its audience laugh . For example, the smash cut from Gyllenhaal dismantling an entire biker gang to him driving them to hospital. Arturo Castro is also a delight as a weedy gang member. Road House 's humor underlines the movie's fun tone.

3 Doug Liman's Direction Is More Ambitious

Liman has several action movies under his belt.

Liman produces plenty of creative touches which make the action feel even bigger. During Dalton's first fight with Knox at the Road House, Liman uses a POV shot to amplify the impact of Conor McGregor's ferocious blows.

Doug Liman has some serious action pedigree. His movies include The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Edge of Tomorrow. Road House is clearly the work of a confident director, with plenty of bold choices which heighten the intensity of the action. The original Road House, directed by Rowdy Herrington, doesn't stack up in terms of visual flair. Herrington lets the action speak for itself, which is extremely effective, but still pales in comparison to what some action movies are capable of.

Liman produces plenty of creative touches which make the action feel even bigger. During Dalton's first fight with Knox at the Road House, Liman uses a POV shot to amplify the impact of Conor McGregor's ferocious blows. He returns to this shot choice during Road House 's explosive ending , when Dalton once more seems as if he's on the brink of death. Liman also uses techniques which echo David Leitch or Guy Ritchie, as the camera moves in time with the fighters as if it's another participant in the brawl.

Jake Gyllenhaal Remembers Original Road House Star With Touching Tribute

2 the remake has bigger action scenes, road house isn't just about bar fights.

The remake of Road House has a much larger budget than the original, and this is reflected in its biggest action set pieces. The UFC fight and Knox's chaotic introduction to the Road House, with his golf club swinging away, are examples of how the remake takes its fights to the next level. The original is still a viscerally shocking depiction of violence, but the remake is bigger and louder, especially with the scenes that take place outside the bar.

Road House is most famous for its bar fights, but the original movie also features motorcycle chases, explosions and burning buildings. The remake steps things up with even more hard-hitting action. The climactic boat chase ends with Brandt being catapulted onto the roof of the bar, and then Knox rams a truck through the front doors. Aside from this carnage, Road House also features a car tumbling off a bridge and Dalton's car getting sideswiped by a train. All of these scenes contribute to the huge spectacle of the movie.

1 Jake Gyllenhaal Delivers A Superb Performance

Gyllenhaal gives the action thriller his total commitment.

Jake Gyllenhaal's remarkable physical transformation highlights how he dives into the role of Elwood Dalton. Gyllenhaal is in superhero shape in Road House, and he doesn't look out of place in a shirtless brawl with Conor McGregor. This may be the most immediately obvious example of Gyllenhaal's commitment to the role, but his entire performance is what helps carry the movie. Road House is primarily about adrenaline-fueled bar fights, sure, but it's also a portrait of a broken man learning to forgive himself.

Jake Gyllenhaal resembles Patrick Swayze's stoic demeanor in the original, but his backstory and the little touches of pathos make his Dalton a character who is easier to root for. Behind Dalton's eyes lies the ongoing tension between his darkest thoughts and his desire to simply help people and relax. Road House is unlikely to reach the same level of critical acclaim as films like Brokeback Mountain and Zodiac, but it could come to be seen as one of Jake Gyllenhaal's best movies , thanks largely to a performance that combines hair-raising action with emotional depth.
