KEY FEATURES
The NMEA 0183 to USB adaptor works on PCs, Macs and Linux computers. It converts NMEA 0183 data, used by many marine systems, into a USB format that can be plugged into most modern computers. The adaptor is a bi-directional device. Therefore, data can be sent to and from systems and supports traditional 4800 baud data or the higher speed 38400 baud rate used by AIS systems . LEDs show data being received and transmitted. Thus helping with interfacing issues and encapsulating all the electronics into the connector.
The device creates a virtual COM port on the PC which navigation and charting software can use to read NMEA data. If necessary, multiple adaptors can be connected . This effectively allows the creation of any number of NMEA ports on your PC. Drivers for this device can be downloaded from our website. It’s Windows XP/7/8/10 compatible. MAC and Linux/Raspberry Pie drivers are also available.

KEY FEATURES
The NMEA 0183 to USB C adaptor works on the most modern PCs and Macs. It converts NMEA 0183 data, used by many marine systems, into a USB C (the new style mini format) that can be plugged into the latest generation of computers.
The adaptor is a bi-directional device. Therefore, data can be sent to and from systems and supports traditional 4800 baud data or the higher speed 38400 baud rate used by AIS systems . LEDs show data being received and transmitted – thus helping with interfacing issues and encapsulating all the electronics into the connector.
The device creates a virtual COM port on the PC which navigation and charting software can use to read NMEA data. If necessary, multiple adaptors can be connected . This effectively allows the creation of any number of NMEA ports on your PC.
Drivers for this device can be downloaded from our website. It’s Windows XP/7/8/10/11 compatible. MAC and Linux/Raspberry Pie drivers are also available.

- Description
Easily connect a laptop or on-board computer to NMEA 0183 devices with the bi-directional Digital Yacht USB to NMEA Serial Adaptor cable. Compatible with PC, MAC and Linux computers.
Simple and cost effective, the Digital Yacht ZDIGUSBNMEA contains a small internal electronic circuit board which provides full bi-directional conversion of NMEA 0183 data. Includes Tx and Rx LEDs which give a visual indication of data traffic on the cable. Easily programmed for 4800 baud rate or higher speed 38400 baud rate used by AIS systems. The Digital Yacht NMEA adaptor creates a virtual COM port on the computer which navigation and charting software can use to read NMEA data. Multiple adaptors can be connected if necessary which effectively allow a number of NMEA ports to be created on your computer.
Includes driver CD for use with PCs, MACs and even Linux based systems and a free CD copy of SmarterTrack Lite AIS viewing software - effectively turning your PC into an AIS target display.

Standard Returns
If you are not entirely happy with your purchase, we will exchange or refund your goods in full, provided that the items are returned within 14 days of receipt.*
Please check the condition of goods on arrival - we are unable to accept goods damaged during shipping after 14 days.
Returned goods must be packaged securely, with all original packaging undamaged and in a saleable condition i.e. shoe boxes must be in the same condition as when received.
Goods must be unused and security seals intact.*
If you would like to return goods because they were ordered incorrectly or if clothing does not fit, return postage will be at your expense. If you would like us to replace the goods with another size or colour, we will charge carriage on the replacement.
Please be aware that some navigational and safety products may be dated, and as such a full refund may in some cases not be possible. If you are purchasing dated navigational charts we suggest you contact us for more information.
Faulty Goods
If you receive your goods and believe them to be faulty, please contact us straight away with a brief description of the problem. If we require you to return the product for a replacement, we will send you a pre-paid Royal Mail label for delivery back to us. Unfortuantely we cannot send the courier back to collect the items.
Returning goods to Force 4 is easy!
- Please contact us by ringing 0345 1300 710 or email on [email protected] . This way we'll be able to determine whether you would like to return the product for a refund or whether you'd like to exchange the product. We are unable to process the return of faulty goods that we're not expecting.
- We'll then give you a returns number. This returns number will need to be clearly marked on the outside of your parcel so it can be identified on arrival. Please note, failure to mark a returns reference number on the outside of your parcel may result in a delay in processing your return.
- Don't forget your proof of postage, just in case!
- Once we receive the item we'll be able to proceed with a refund or an exchange.

KEY FEATURES
All AIS Class A Transponders have a special “Pilot Plug” that is intended to allow a Commercial Pilot to quickly and reliably connect their laptop PC to the Class A Transponder when they arrive onboard.
The Digital Deep Sea Pilot Plug Cable, allows anyone to connect their PC to a Class A Transponder. Therefore receiving NMEA0183 AIS and GPS data via a USB port. With some models of Class A transponders, this cable can also be used to configure the Class A with static AIS data and/or the mandatory voyage data that should always be programmed in to a Class A transponder before starting a passage.
The NMEA to USB Adaptor works on PCs, Macs and Linux computers. It converts NMEA 0183 data, used by many marine systems, into a USB format that can be plugged into most modern computers. The adaptor is a bi-directional device so data can be sent to and from systems. It also has integral LEDs that flash upon receving data (green) and transmitting (red) which helps with interfacing issues.
The Pilot Plug Cable creates a virtual COM port on the PC. Navigation and charting software can use this to read NMEA data. The device ships with a multi platform driver CD so you can be use it on PCs, MACs and even Linux based systems. If you’re using the device with a Windows PC, you’ll get a bonus as we include SmarterTrack Lite AIS viewing software on the CD – effectively turning your PC into an AIS target display.

You can view the NMEA 0183 data coming out of one of our USB devices using Tera Term, a free Windows terminal program, which can be downloaded from the link below…

Just select the latest EXE installer version and once downloaded, double click on the file to install TeraTerm. You only need the main program, not all of the extra plugins and language extensions, so untick everything else as shown below….
Once Tera Term is installed, you need to confirm what COM port Windows has allocated to your device’s USB interface. It was COM3 on our PC, but it might be a different number on yours and the best way to confirm is to open “Device Manager” on your Windows PC, go to the “Ports (COM & LPT)” section and see what is listed there.
You should see at least one COM port listed and if you then unplug your USB to NMEA cable and see which entry disappears, this will confirm which COM port it is.
Now run Tera Term and create a new serial connection to the COM port number of your USB to NMEA cable…
Click “OK” and you will see a terminal window appear, which may or may not have any NMEA 0183 data displayed in it.
In the image above, you can see strange characters scrolling down the screen, which usually indicates a wrong baud rate (data speed) setting. Click on Setup>Serial Port and change the baud rate to either 4800 baud (standard for GPS, Instruments, etc.) or 38400 baud (high speed setting for AIS or multiplexers).
Now when y0u click the “New Setting” button the data should be much better formatted with one NMEA 0183 sentence per line…
To understand the data that you are seeing, you will need to search online for information on NMEA 0183 or consider buying the latest NMEA 0183 specification from the NMEA organisation at https://nmea.org

Once Tera Term is installed, we need to confirm what COM port Windows has allocated to your USB to NMEA Cable. It was COM3 on my PC, but it might be a different number on yours and the best way to confirm is to open “Device Manager” on your Windows PC, go to the “Ports (COM & LPT)” section and see what is listed there.
Click “OK” and you will see a terminal window appear. Now you need to create the “Loop back” by physically connecting the Yellow (RX) and Orange (TX) wires together which loops the data back on itself.
Now when you type any characters on the keyboard, you should see them appear in the Window and at the same time, each press of the keyboard will make the Red and Green LEDs in the USB connector flash.
If for each key press you get two matching characters appear (see above), don’t worry it just means that the “Local Echo” tick box in the Tera Term “Setup>Terminal” options is enabled…
NMEA 0183 to USB Adaptor Driver Installation
In most cases, if your computer is connected to the internet, when you plug the USB to NMEA adaptor in to a spare USB socket, the driver should be automatically installed on Windows/MAC OSX/LINUX.
Sometimes with Windows PCs, it is necessary to manually install the USB drivers which can be downloaded from here….

This will download a zip file that when you double click will show a single exe file…
Extract this EXE file and then right click on it and select “Run as administrator”…
Now plug in the USB cable and check in Device Manager that the USB to NMEA adaptor has been successfully allocated a COM port number in the “Ports (COM&LPT)” section – COM6 in the example below.
This is the COM Port number you will need to select in your navigation software.
