Since its founding nearly 100 years ago by the Howland family, Concordia Company has offered a complete range of yacht maintenance, restoration and boatbuilding services. Mid-century, the company became known worldwide for commissioning 103 Ray Hunt designed Concordia Yawls (and a few sloops) from 1938 to 1966. The vast majority of these venerable boats remain sailing today, and we are proud to continue to care for many of them. Now led by Stuart MacGregor as President and GM, Concordia remains a thriving and revered institution in the American marine industry.

“The idea subconsciously came to me [in 1938] that the new ship should have a painted eye on her bow so that she could see where she was going, and enjoy all the lovely sights that would be ahead of her.

I had seen pictures of such eyes on native boats in faraway places. An emblem there did add something and gradually transformed itself into a five-pointed star. To balance this bow decoration a crescent moon suggested itself for the stern.”

Owner’s Comments Misty, Concordia #66

Misty is a classic 39-foot Concordia yawl, #66, built at the Abeking and Rasmussen Yard in Bremen Germany in 1959. She was owned by a family on the Great Lakes for her first 45 years. During that time, she won the Chicago-Mackinaw Race, and her racing equipment reflects a commitment to boat speed and ease of handling. She was kept in showroom condition at the Palmer Johnson Yacht Yard. In 2006 Misty returned to New England and received an update including new 3JH 4E Yanmar diesel engine, new plumbing, electronics, standing rigging and sails, at the Concordia Yard, and at Strouts Point Wharf, in Freeport, Maine. In 2010, a new rudder and rudder heel fitting was fabricated at Strouts Point Wharf. Paint and Varnish have been professionally applied every year. Garboard Planks have been replaced, and sister frames have been placed as necessary, as well as new sails and rigging as needed. Misty has raced regularly in the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta, and performs beautifully with her inventory of racing sails. Misty’s current owner, her third owner, has long experience in the care and management wooden sailboats. The boat remains in nearly original form, in great structural and cosmetic condition.

Misty is a "sailor's Concordia", and as outlined below, the two  previous owners appreciated her and gave her excellent care.  Her third and only other owner is an especially competent yachts woman, and this is her second Concordia yawl.  Recently repowered and updated, and with a large sail inventory, Misty has had loving, knowledgeable care, and is highly recommended.

Misty, a classic 39-foot Concordia yawl, #66 (of 99 Concordias built at Abeking and Rasmussen) was shipped from Bremen, Germany in 1959, and immediately left New Bedford for Chicago via the Erie Canal with the owners, the MacIntosh family. She remained on the Great Lakes for 45 years in the care of the same family. During that time, she competed in distance racing, and even won the Chicago-Mackinaw Race in the early 80s. Her racing equipment reflects their commitment to boat speed and ease of handling. She was kept in showroom condition at the Palmer Johnson Yacht Yard. 

In 2006 Misty returned to New England and received a major update including new Yanmar engine, plumbing, electronics, and new standing rigging, at the Concordia Yard, and at Strouts Point Wharf in Freeport Maine. 

Fresh Paint and Varnish have been professionally applied every year. Garboard Planks have been replaced, and sister frames have been placed as necessary. In 2010 she received a new rudder and rudder heel fitting, both fabricated at Strouts Point Wharf. 

For the last ten years, she has appeared regularly at the WoodenBoat School, Maine, as an exemplar Concordia classroom, teaching adults in “the Craft of Sail,” and the fine points of sailing a traditional yawl. She has also raced regularly in the famous Eggemoggin Reach Regatta. Misty’s current owner is long experienced in the care and management wooden sailboats; she has moved on to a larger boat in the Mediterranean.

Typical Concordia construction with tight seam African mahogany planking bronze screw fastened to steam bent oak frames and sisters.  Oak backbone and floors. Iron ballast keel. Painted canvas over mahogany deck with mahogany deck structures and locust trim. Iron ballast. Keel hung rudder ant heel fitting recently replaced.  Misty is painted with Epifanes #27 grey enamel topsides paint with goldleaf cove stripe, white boot top and red bottom.

Misty has the standard Concordia layout with rode stowage right forward followed by stowage under 2 pipe berths with head next aft to port and hanging locker opposite.  The head is fitted with WC (Y-valve to holding tank), SS sink with manual fresh water, and stowage.  The main cabin centers around the drop leaf locust table with settees port and starboard fitted with drop down Concordia backrests/berths. Cast iron Concordia stove is forward.  The galley is aft  with  SS sink (manual fresh water) and SS  lined ice box to port and two burner non pressurized Origo cook top to starboard.  There is ample and cleverly designed stowage, and finish below is varnished raised paneled bulkheads with locust trim, withe paint and bare teak cabin sole. Ample ventilation is provided with two opening  hatches, the companionway, opening ports, and ventilators with screens for portholes and hatches

ACCOMODATION: Savannah sleeps 4 guests in two cabins. There is a double crew cabin with bathroom in the bow. The interior styling is traditional with a rich dark Mahogany wood adorning the whole of the yachts interior.

Master cabin: The master cabin is a particularly spacious double cabin with the bed offset to port. The cabin has its own dedicated and private companion-way hatch which is accessed from the aft cockpit. The master cabin has a good sized adjoining bathroom with bath tub. toilet and washbasin. To starboard there is a good sized lounging sofa and plenty of hanging wardrobe space. The cabin is naturally well lit by a good size traditional deck hatch above. Air conditioning also cools the cabin quickly.

Saloon: Walking forward from the master cabin you enter a full beam, spacious saloon. There is a large traditional opening skylight which naturally lights the saloon very well. The saloon can also be accessed via a dedicated main companionway, which is wide with shallow access steps and a particularly nice feature onboard. The saloon has a large dining table to Stbd and capable of seating 6 guests. In less favourable weather conditions Savannahs saloon is a very comfortable and ‘cosy’ environment in which to relax, watch a movie etc. A

Guest Double cabin: Forward of the saloon and to starboard is the en-suite guest cabin. This cabin is beautifully appointed and very comfortable.

Galley: Opposite the double cabin is the well appointed galley which has all necessary catering facilities, including 4 burner gas top stove, gas oven and grill. Twin stainless steel sink, Fridges and freezers.

Crew: Forward of the galley is the twin crew cabin with en-suite wetroom and washbasin. Above is a dedicated crew companion way hatch for quick and easy foredeck access.

The 27.4-metre modern-classic sailing yacht Savannah has been listed for sale with Alastair Shove of Carrswood Yachts .

Launched by Concordia Custom Yachts in 1997, her all-carbon-composite hull is by top US naval architect David Pedrick with an interior by the renowned British designer John Munford – all created under the eye of "artistic director" Randolph Watkins, her first owner, whose design brief was "to build the most beautiful classic yacht conceivable".

Savannah sleeps four guests in two cabins, the spacious master cabin aft having its double berth to port and a sofa to starboard. Enjoying its own dedicated, private companionway hatch from the aft cockpit and a bathroom with roll-top enamelled tub, the cabin is naturally lit by a traditional deckhatch above. The guest en-suite double cabin is positioned forward of the saloon to starboard.

The saloon – with panelled mahogany joinery and buttoned leather upholstered seating – can be accessed via shallow access steps from the main cockpit, as well as internally from the master cabin. To starboard is a six-seater dining table. The beautifully-finished space provides a cosy and relaxed environment to enjoy watching a film in, during less favourable weather, with wood-burning stove, oil paintings and library. Savannah's galley is large enough to provide haute cuisine meals and there is crew accommodation forward for a couple.

With her long, elegant overhangs, traditional styling, strong yet light construction, modern underbody and efficient keel, Savannah has been described as a wolf in sheep's clothing. She has a high sail-carrying power and is a winning "spirit of tradition" racer as well as a comfortable cruiser.

Under power, a single 270hp MAN diesel gives the yacht for sale a cruising speed of 7 to 8 knots.

ACCOMODATION: Savannah sleeps 4 guests in two cabins. There is a double crew cabin with bathroom in the bow. The interior styling is traditional with a rich dark Mahogany wood adorning the whole of the yachts interior.

Master cabin: The master cabin is a particularly spacious double cabin with the bed offset to port. The cabin has its own dedicated and private companion-way hatch which is accessed from the aft cockpit. The master cabin has a good sized adjoining bathroom with bath tub. toilet and washbasin. To starboard there is a good sized lounging sofa and plenty of hanging wardrobe space. The cabin is naturally well lit by a good size traditional deck hatch above. Air conditioning also cools the cabin quickly.

Saloon: Walking forward from the master cabin you enter a full beam, spacious saloon. There is a large traditional opening skylight which naturally lights the saloon very well. The saloon can also be accessed via a dedicated main companionway, which is wide with shallow access steps and a particularly nice feature onboard. The saloon has a large dining table to Stbd and capable of seating 6 guests. In less favourable weather conditions Savannahs saloon is a very comfortable and ‘cosy’ environment in which to relax, watch a movie etc. A

Guest Double cabin: Forward of the saloon and to starboard is the en-suite guest cabin. This cabin is beautifully appointed and very comfortable.

Galley: Opposite the double cabin is the well appointed galley which has all necessary catering facilities, including 4 burner gas top stove, gas oven and grill. Twin stainless steel sink, Fridges and freezers.

Crew: Forward of the galley is the twin crew cabin with en-suite wetroom and washbasin. Above is a dedicated crew companion way hatch for quick and easy foredeck access.
