Some of the glamorous amenities onboard those yachts are unheard of, but having all that money can buy pretty much whatever their heart desires.

A love for the sea is what all those celebrities have in common, plus a need to escape constant snapshots from paparazzis. On their own private yachts, they get to relax and be themselves, also spending some quality time with their friends and family.

It used to be one of the longest yachts in the world at 305 feet in length. That’s before it caught fire outside of Norway back in 2012. Thankfully, no casualties were reported.

The yacht was named after his family with his ex-wife, Vanessa Paradis, and his two kids, Lily Rose and Jack. In 2016, he sold it to J.K Rowlings, who also happened to be caught up in her shares of controversy in the last couple of years.

David Beckham is the new owner of this Riva Argo 90, which he named Seven, after his iconic football shirt number. The boat was constructed by Ferretti Engineering Department for naval architecture. Officina Italiana Design are responsible for the design of both the interior and exterior of the yacht. The MTU diesel engine allows it to go up to 30 knots.

It was launched in October 2021, and it has some pretty cool features. Among its most standout designs is the sun lounging spot on the foredeck. They also own The Seafair, which is nicknamed ‘The Sophisticated Lady”, for Victoria.

1. Topaz (or A+) – Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s Yacht

The Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nayhan, owns one of the longest yachts to sail the waters. Mostly known as “Sheik Mansour”, he is the Manchester City owner, among many other holdings. At 482 feet long, or 147 meters, it is longer than some cruise ships. We are all curious to find out how the interior looks, but he’s a very private person, and no pictures are available.

So we are all left to speculate, but we can only imagine the luxurious amenities the yacht contains on-board. What we do know is that the yacht has its own cinema, swimming pools, on-deck jacuzzis, and its own helipad.

• Final Thoughts

Although celebrities are people just like us, the way they live doesn’t compare to that of people that live paycheck to paycheck. But every now and again we like to see how luxurious their lives are. “The large yachts we’re building today are as complicated as the world’s most advanced warships, but they simultaneously have to be as comfortable as the world’s very best hotels,” Edmiston explains. “They’re engineering marvels. You’ve got this amazing, amazingly complicated boat that has to function like the most complicated building or even warship, with the electronics, plus you’ve got to have air-conditioning, it’s got to be silent, and then it’s got to be super-comfortable with all of the facilities that you’d imagine in the very, very, very best five-star hotel on earth.”

Edmiston estimates that chartering a yacht for Cannes can cost anywhere from $200,000 to more than a million dollars for a week at the festival. But for those uninterested in navigating the crowds, the value of rolling up to an international event in your own floating, five-star hotel is invaluable. And their yachts make for good sport to luxury looky-loos.

Tanya Blaylock, Quintessentially People’s yacht-crew placement director, explains that you might see yacht “fans or spotters on the docks, especially if a high-profile yacht is coming into port.” Once the smaller yachts have been docked, and the larger yachts are moored, there is not much movement during the festival. “Guests do not get taken to sea during the festival,” Blaylock says. “This is called a ‘static charter,’ meaning the vessel does not move; the yacht is used as a floating hotel and event venue.”

But spotters can find out exactly where a yacht is docked or moored using the Marine Traffic Web site. So, if Kim Kardashian were chartering a yacht called the Selfie , fans could simply search for the vessel, pull up a map showing where the reality star is presumably taking selfies aboard the Selfie , and get her exact latitude and longitude coordinates—certainly a plus for paparazzi.

“All vessels have A.I.S., which is an automatic identification system,” explains IYC Yachts general manager Mathilde de Roffignac. “It’s really a signal for the Coast Guard giving the position of the yacht and the size of the yacht, by electronically exchanging information via satellite and other ships.

“During this time of the year, or during boat shows, it’s really fun to look at the maps because you can see the density of the boat in the port and at anchor,” Roffignac explains. “I like to confirm that I can recognize the yachts that are out there. Sometimes you don’t know them all because there are so many coming to the French Riviera at this time of the year. But it’s nice to use if you are on a boat or using it from the coast to confirm you are looking at X yacht, confirm its size, and confirm that you know your yachts.

“All yacht owners and guests love boats in general, so they like to see if they can recognize shipyards,” Roffignac says of her clients, especially during yacht season, which runs through the Monaco Yacht Show, in September. “Sometimes there is an interesting design or there is something fun happening and they want to know the boat next door.”

In addition to tracking billionaires and celebrities, Blaylock says that Marine traffic data can have some practical use, too.

“It’s a good way to track my husband down, too. He is an engineer and his yacht just traveled from Asia to Oman through the Suez Canal to Europe, and I was able to see where he was whenever I logged on.”

Estimated to have cost €340 million, the yacht boats 24 guest cabins, two helipads, three launch boats, a mini submarine, and two pools. It takes 70 crew to keep the yacht running and to make sure that Abramovich and his VIP guests’ needs are met 24/7.

Paul Allen – MV Tatoosh

At 303 ft, Tatoosh is smaller than Microsoft’s Paul Allen superyacht, the 416 foot Octopus, but has everything needed for a holiday in the lap of luxury.

Bought in 2001 for $100m, Tatoosh has an owner’s cabin, 9 guest staterooms, two crew cabins, a cinema, a swimming pool with adjustable depth and two helipads.

At the beginning of 2016 Tatoosh dropped anchor on a coral reef in the Cayman Islands, causing damage. A committed environmentalist, the Microsoft co-founder, who was not on board at the time, paid an undisclosed sum to the local government, who invested the money in new moorings to avoid further damage to the protected reef.

Johnny Depp/J.K. Rowling – Vajoliroja

Formerly owned by actor Johnny Depp, luxury yacht Vajoliroja was purchased by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling in 2016 for £22 million.

The craft boasts five cabins, plus five more for crew, opulent saloons in bohemian style, entertainment areas and all kinds of toys, such as waterskis and kayaks.

The 156ft Vajoliroja has now been named Arriva and is up for sale.

Lord Alan Sugar – Lady A

Currently on sale for £12.34 million, Lord Alan Sugar’s 181ft superyacht was put on the market in the summer of 2017 after undergoing a year long refit.

The Jon Bannenberg designed Lady A boasts an owner’s cabin with jacuzzi, private shower, study and en suite and six guest cabins.

Perfect for entertaining, it offers large sunbathing areas, a seated bar, jacuzzi, sun awnings, and two private, lounges at the foredeck. Inside, the upgraded interior features walnut cabinetry and solid timber floors.

Giorgio Armani – Main

Just like its owner, Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani, Main is known for its elegant and sophisticated design.

Built by Codecasa and delivered in 2008, the 150ft superyacht features a minimalist interior, with a colour palette of chic black and grey complementing the blonde birch wood floors and blinds. The light both inside and outside is soft, allowing for plenty of shaded areas, as well as relaxing ones for sunbathing. The yacht has a master’s stateroom, six guest cabins, and eight crew cabins, a sundeck, an indoor gym, a hot tub and a cinema. The interiors of Main were designed by Giorgio Armani himself.

Andrey Melnichenko – Sailing Yacht A

Rather than his owner, the real celebrity here is the boat.

The 142-metre yacht built for Russian billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko, one of Russia’s 10 richest people, Sailing Yacht A is easily recognised by the three composite carbon fibre masts that are reportedly the largest and most technologically advanced free-standing masts in the world.

The mogul reportedly spent $400 million on the yacht, which he helped to design. The boat has eight decks, can sleep up to 20 guests and is said to need a crew of 54.

One of the yacht’s most talked about features is the huge 193-square-foot curved glass observation pod in the vessel’s hull allowing the billionaire and his guests undersea views.

Designed by Philippe Starck, who also designed Melnichenko’s previous vessel Motor Yacht A, Sailing Yacht A was built by shipyard German Naval Yards in Kiel and has been one of the most talked about boats of the last two years.

Joe Lewis – Aviva

Owned by Tottenham Hotspur shareholder Joe Lewis, Aviva was built by German shipyard Abeking and Rasmussen and designed by Raymond Langton. The superyacht is 98.4 in length, has 17.24 beam, sleeps up to 12 guests in six cabins plus 35 crew and one of its most impressive features is that it boasts a full size tennis court.

Roberto Cavalli – Baglietto

Just like the bold Italian fashion designer, Baglietto is colourful and full of character and certainly wants to be seen with its hull painted in shimmering purple, gold and aqua hues.

Built by Baglietto, this 150ft yacht is valued at $50m and has entertained many of Roberto Cavalli’s celebrity friends, including David and Victoria Beckham and the actress Sharon Stone.

Barry Diller and Diane von Fürstenberg – Eos

Valued at £116.5 million, billionaire media mogul Barry Diller and his fashion designer wife, Diane von Fürstenberg’s sailing yacht Eos, is not just one of the world’s most beautiful, but also most expensive.

This 304.89ft custom Bermuda rigged schooner was build by the world famous Lürssen shipyard and was delivered in 2006. In 2013 it underwent a refit following a fire on board.

Eos’ interior has been designed by François Catroux, named by Vanity Fair as the “Über-Rich’s Favorite Interior Designer”.

Eos can sleep up to 16 guests and 21 crew and features a displacement aluminium hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. This schooner has plenty of toys and tenders to keep guests entertained at sea.

When  Zac Efron  spent his 2014 summer vacation perpetually on a boat, he enlisted both Justin Bieber and Italian businessman (and yacht owner) Gianluca Vacchi.

Top superyachts chartered by celebrities

As Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker celebrate their wedding festivities on board a luxury superyacht, take a look at the other yachts chartered by A-list celebrities looking for some respite away from shore, including Tyson Fury, Michael Jordan, Leonardo di Caprio, Beyonce and Jay-Z.

iRama | Tyson Fury

British heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury was spotted on board the blue-hulled superyacht iRama in May 2022. Joined by his wife and children, the celebrity sportsman was enjoying some family time in the south of France, cruising around Cannes on board iRama .

Measuring 42 metres LOA, iRama was delivered by Concept Marine in 2009 with exterior and interior styling designed in-house. Up to 12 guests can be accommodated across six cabins, including a master suite with a private study. Uniquely textured wood panelling gives her interior a casual and comfortable beach house feel, complemented by colourful mosaic-inspired carpeting. She was last refitted in 2020.

The social hub of the yacht is undoubtedly the sundeck, complete with a hot tub, cocktail bar, sunpads and al fresco dining space. A swimming platform offers direct access to the water for guests to play around on the fleet of toys including Jet Skis, towable inflatables and gear for waterskiing and wakeboarding. A zippy top speed of 21 knots allows guests plentiful cruising experiences during their time on iRama , with a crew of seven stationed on board.

Otoctone 80 | paris hilton.

Media personality and US socialite Paris Hilton spent her summer holidays in August 2021 in Corsica on board Sunreef catamaran Otoctone 80 . Hilton was joined by her fiancé Carter Reum and shared images of her time on board the Sunreef 80 Power Catamaran on social media.

Launched in 2020, Otoctone 80 measures 23.8 metres LOA. She can accommodate up to eight guests across four cabins, with additional cabins for four members of crew. Interiors have been finished in pastel tones and feature a main saloon and dining area complemented by panoramic windows.

The exterior is designed with high bulwarks, teak decks and a terrace lounge at the bow with sunbathing pads. Other outdoor highlights include al fresco dining and a wet bar for drinks. A hydraulic swim platform offers easy access to the water and the toybox comes stocked with a range of toys including an e-foil, Jet Skis, e-bikes, Sea Bobs, wakeboarding gear and a DJI drone.

O'Pari | Michael Jordan

American basketball legend Michael Jordan was spotted stepping on board 94.6 metre superyacht O’Pari in late August 2021. Boarding in the Croatian city of Split, Jordan spent his time on O'Pari cruising the Dalmatian Coast.

Delivered in 2020, O’Pari is the eleventh hull in the “O” series by Golden Yachts , commissioned by the Greek Dragnis dynasty and the newest sistership to superyachts such as 84.73 metre O’Ptasia and 57 metre O’Mathilde . She was designed inside and out by Studio Vafiadis and can accommodate up to 12 guests across 14 cabins. A helipad allows for arrivals and departures in style and an elegant atmosphere awaits inside with interior spaces decorated in artworks hand-selected by the owner’s son. Key features on board include an expansive beach club with a massage room, dry Finnish sauna and Turkish hammam plus a spa pool on the upper deck. The sundeck is designed for entertaining, with a firepit lounge for cosy dining, an outdoor screen for al fresco movie nights and a DJ booth and fully equipped wet bar for parties. O’Pari also boasts a well-stocked toybox, carrying Sea-Doos, as many as four Seabobs, two Fliteboards, kayaks, tubes, slides, water skis and more.

Siren | michael b. jordan.

Nobiskrug superyacht Siren played host to American actor Michael B. Jordan and his girlfriend, model Lori Harvey, in the early months of 2021. The two were seen spending time on board during their charter vacation off the Caribbean island of St Barths. Measuring 73.5 metres in length, Siren was first delivered in 2008 and has all the ingredients for the ultimate yacht charter. Her four decks are home to a private cinema, a circular bar connecting the main saloon and the aft deck, a sun deck with a Jacuzzi and sunpads, an outdoor cinema and a beach club and gym where guests can be whipped into shape by an on-board personal trainer or treated to a lengthy afternoon massage.

Siren is managed by Burgess with charters starting from €553,000 per week.

Il Sole | Catherine Zeta-Jones

The 44.6 metre Benetti Il Sole played host to a pair of famous guests in July 2021 as Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and her American husband, actor Michael Douglas, chartered her around the islands of Ibiza and Mallorca. The actress shared pictures of herself on social media enjoying a spot of yoga on deck and a dip in the sea. Spanning four decks, Il Sole is perfect for summer cruising in the Balearics, with plenty of space for sunbathing dn sunset dining. She can sleep up to 12 guests in total.

Aquila | magic johnson.

Retired NBA player Magic Johnson is a regular yacht charter guest. In the past, he’s spent time on 70.41 metre Felix and 73.5 metre Siren . He's also been a repeat guest on board 85.6 metre motor yacht Aquila (previously Cakewalk ), and was last spotted on board during summer 2021. During this trip, he was joined by a few famous faces including rapper LL Cool J and actor Samuel L. Jackson as Aquila explored the coasts of Italy.

Delivered by Derecktor in 2010, Aquila can accommodate 12 guests and 28 crew. She is the biggest yacht to be built in the US since the 1930s. Highlights on board the Redman Whiteley -designed motor yacht include a Jacuzzi, gym, elevator, cinema and even a nightclub. Aquila is also equipped with a range of toys including waterskis, a pair of SeaBobs and a scuba diving store.

Tranquility | Kylie Jenner

The 91.5 metre superyacht Tranquility was chartered in 2019 by make-up mogul Kylie Jenner for her 22nd birthday. Together with her friends and family – including her daughter Stormi – Jenner celebrated lavishly at sea while cruising around Capri, Italy. Her guests would have been taken care of by the 31 crew members on board the Oceanco superyacht. Tranquility features an opulent interior by Andrew Winch and boasts amenities such as vast swimming pool, a grand piano, multiple Jacuzzis and an extensive spa with massage and hammam rooms. Snaps of Jenner on board were shared on Instagram; she was seen relaxing on the sundeck, breakfasting at the 12-seat dining table and braving the 21 metre jump into the sea from Tranquility’s upper deck.

Tranquility is available for charter with Camper & Nicholsons from €1,100,000 a week.

Impromptu | Leonardo DiCaprio

In July 2017, Leonardo DiCaprio was spotted on board 50 metre superyacht Impromptu in St Tropez, alongside a large group of friends that included Tobey Maguire and Kevin Connolly. Looking relaxed with a glass of wine in hand, Leo laughed and chatted on deck with his guests while enjoying the sunshine. Impromptu can sleep up to 12 guests in six luxurious cabins, which includes a stunning split-level master suite complete with his/hers en suites and a raised lounge. The skylounge boasts a wine cellar, drinks bar and games table, while the sundeck offers guests a luxurious space in which to soak up the sun thanks to a raised Jacuzzi, loungers and sunpads forward.

 Impromptu is managed for charter by IYC with a weekly charter rate starting from €275,000.

Hurricane Run | Sylvester Stallone

Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallonewas spotted enjoying a luxury yacht charter with his family in the French Riviera on board Hurricane Run in July 2018. His family made the most of the 53.5 metre Feadship’s extensive toy box and were snapped paddle boarding and canoeing. Two of his daughters even took the plunge from the sundeck into the sparkling Mediteranean sea below. Delivered in 2009, Hurricane Run has accommodation for 12 guests in her contemporary Terence Disdale interior, which is dotted with unique artwork and sculptures. Her sundeck boasts a large Jacuzzi and loungers for making the most of the sun during the day. At night it can be transformed into a party area thanks to its multi-zone sound and visual system.

Trending | Jennifer Lopez

Singer and actor Jennifer Lopez was spotted in Antibes in June 2017 with her former baseball star partner Alex Rodriguez on board Trending . They spent the day on the luxury yacht enjoying lunch in the sunshine and Rodriguez jumped into the water from the upper deck.

Trending was delivered by Westport in 2006 and underwent a $4M refit in 2015/2016. The 50 metre superyacht can sleep up to 12 guests in six luxurious cabins with a crew of 11 on board. She boasts an elegant interior with vast windows that provide plenty of natural light throughout, as well as a contemporary TV lounge complete with drinks bar. On deck, guests can bask in the sunshine atop the sunpads or in the Jacuzzi. Alternatively, retire to the al fresco lounge area for a drink at the U-shaped seated bar.

From Elizabeth Taylor lounging around in the French Riviera, to actress Sophia Loren posing with a picturesque ocean backdrop, it is a truth universally acknowledged that any celebrity in possession of fame and fortune, must be pictured aboard a yacht in Saint-Tropez.

But celebrities aren't the only ones who love cruising through the Mediterranean.

Politicians, kings, and queens have also been spotted sailing in style around the world. For example, the British royal family used to take frequent vacations aboard their former charter, Royal Yacht Britannia, and even actress Grace Kelly was photographed on a yacht with fiancé Prince Rainier III of Monaco days before their wedding.

Yachting has always been associated not just with Hollywood jet-setters but also the world's most powerful elite.

Brangelina Who? Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton's Wedding 60 Years Later

Before Bennifer, Brangelina and Tayvis, there was Liz and Dick.

March 15, 2024 marks 60 years since the (first) wedding of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton . The couple set the world on fire with their whirlwind romance, which Burton famously referred to as "Le Scandale." The pair originally crossed paths at a Hollywood party in the ‘50s, but they officially met for the first time on the set of their 1963 movie,  Cleopatra , where sparks immediately began to fly.

Although both married to other people at the time - Taylor wed Eddie Fisher in 1959, while Burton had tied the knot with Sybil Williams in 1949 - the twosome began a passionate affair during their time in Italy that quickly became a global phenomenon. From photos of them kissing on yachts in the Mediterranean to walking along Rome's Via Veneto, the public's obsession with the duo's infidelity made headlines around the world‚ to a magnitude that matched, if not exceeded, modern-day pairs like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce , Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez , Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie .

"I've had affairs before," Burton once told a publicist working on Cleopatra . "How did I know the woman was so f-king famous? She knocks Khrushchev off the front page."

Celebrity Couples and How They Met: Love Story Beginnings

Eventually, both Burton and Taylor divorced their respective partners and were wed in Montreal on March 15, 1964, by a Unitarian minister. Elizabeth was 32 years old at the time, Burton was 38. It was her fifth wedding, his second. (Taylor's entanglement with Burton marked her second love triangle, as she initially got together with Fisher when he was still married to her friend Debbie Reynolds .)

According to her 2022 authorized memoir, Elizabeth Taylor: The Grit and Glamour of an Icon , the minister started the ceremony by crediting the couple for going "through great travail in your love for each other" while being harassed and hounded by the media.

Taylor donned a canary yellow chiffon babydoll dress for the nuptials, which Cleopatra costume Designer Irene Sharaff designed. She paired the look with an 18-carat Bulgari emerald brooch, a piece that Burton had gifted her while filming. Her hairdresser, Ronald DeMann , styled her locks into a braided crown updo with a hairpiece entwined with white hyacinths. Lilies trailed down her back.

The only guests at the intimate ceremony were Taylor's parents, Francis and Sara , and Burton's stylist, Bob Wilson . The service lasted a mere 10 minutes, ending with Burton claiming, "Elizabeth Burton and I are very, very happy." Elizabeth agreed, announcing, "I'm so happy you can't believe it. This marriage will last forever."

Forever didn't last as long as Taylor hoped. The pair had a volatile relationship throughout their first 10 years of marriage, with Taylor once claiming that Burton would often "lose his temper with true enjoyment."

"Our fights are delightful screaming matches, and Richard is rather like a small atom bomb going off," she said.

Burton echoed his wife's sentiments. "We live out, for the benefit of the mob, the sort of idiocies they've come to expect," he told the Daily Mirror .  "We will often pitch a battle purely for the exercise. I will accuse her of being ugly, she will accuse me of being a talentless son of a bitch, and this sort of frightens people. … I love arguing with Elizabeth, except when she is in the nude."

The twosome announced their divorce in 1974. Less than one year later, however, they tied the knot for a second time in a ceremony in Botswana. "We exchanged rings, fathomless looks, and were married once again, back where we belonged. Always belonged," Taylor wrote in a diary entry from that time.

Burton and Taylor adopted daughter Maria in 1961. However, after 11 films and nearly two decades together, they called it quits for good in 1976. (Taylor tied the knot eight times in total. In addition to Burton and Fisher, she was married to Conrad Hilton Jr. from 1950 to 1952 and Michael Wilding from 1952 to 1957, and the duo shared sons Michael Jr. and Christopher. In 1958, she married Mike Todd and the pair welcomed daughter Liza before he died in a plane crash less than one year later. Following her second divorce from Burton, she married John Warner and Larry Fortensky in 1976 and 1991, respectively.)

In her autobiography, Taylor confessed that despite their romance failing to go the distance, she had no regrets about her and Burton's love story. "Even though there were rough times," she wrote, "I wouldn't give up one minute of my time with Richard Burton."
