Forward rowing, backward rowing, or SUP, the XCAT Row configuration does them all flawlessly.
Xcat rowvista®.
With traditional rowing, you are pulling the boat backwards, and your line of sight is opposite of the direction in which you are traveling. With RowVista, you're pulling the boat forward, and your line of sight is forward so you are facing the direction you are headed, much like driving a car or operating a powerboat. You will feel the breeze in your face and you can row at a relaxed pace without fatigue. Moderately fit people can row much farther than they think with RowVista.
If you want to be able to row forward and sail at the same time, choose the RowVista System from the dropdown menu on the left and add an XCAT Sailing Kit from our accessories below.
XCAT RowMotion®
The XCAT RowMotion uses a classic reverse rowing motion—the way that it’s been done since rowing was invented. The stable catamaran design provides a smooth safe ride on the water while an adjustable stop limits movement to the rear so that you can row without using foot straps. This is extremely beneficial if you want to row in flip flops or barefoot in the summer.
The XCAT RowMotion is available with or without oars. Choose the option that best suits your needs from the dropdown menu on the left.
The XCAT is a super stable platform for stand-up paddling. This boat can easily be walked around on and even surfed in waves. This is the perfect boat to SUP with a friend, especially for longer distances in coastal waters.
If you want to use the XCAT Row like a stand-up-paddleboard (SUP) choose the XCAT SUP from the dropdown menu on the left.
Boat Capabilities
Xcat row innovations.
Designed with rowing in mind, the XCAT is built to excel at rowing while providing an unparalleled platform that can withstand coastal conditions and constant powerboat wakes.
Optional Tiller-Fix keeps the rudder off center to countersteer paddling from only one side of the boat.
HDPE hulls are ultra durable and can handle hard groundings or collisions with underwater obstructions.
Self tensioning trampoline material saves you from unnecessary lacing for a faster assembly.
Anodized aluminum frame is corrosion resistant and will keep your boat looking new for years to come.
Extra wide platform is ultra stable. The XCAT can easily tackle big waves and rough waters.
Long and narrow hulls are fast through the water allowing you to reach high speeds with less effort.
Wide catamaran design lets you row in rougher conditions.
Low to the water design keeps you in touch with the water.
Concept2 oarlocks allow you to use our oars or your old C2 oars from college.
Fully adjustable positioning for oarlocks, roller seat and foot stretchers.
RowVista system has swinging oarlock that allows the oars to swing inboard of the boat for coming alongside docks or other boats.
RowVista is designed to allow the same motions as traditional rowing, but the boat moves in the direction you are facing.
Not the right sailboat for you? Let’s find your perfect boat.
XCAT Row Features & Benefits
The world’s first hard-hulled catamaran that can be transported on the roof of your car and assembled in 12 minutes—all without sacrificing quality or performance.
High-Quality Textilene®
This high tech material is used for the trampoline. It is UV resistant, hard wearing, breathable and self tensioning. This material is comfortable enough to sleep on but firm enough to comfortably stand and walk around. It is also durable enough to bring a large dog along without worry of damage.
Motor Mount Included
All XCAT boats include a motor mount attached to the rear crossbar. This mount can handle up to a 3 hp outboard (Red Beard recommends either the EP Carry or Torqeedo 1103CL). If you don’t want/need the mount, you can unbolt the wooden motor mount from the crossbar for a clean aesthetic with reduced windage. Check out the XCAT Extra Crossbar With Outboard Bracket .
Bow Net Storage (Optional)
This optional bow net and bowsprit allows you to store gear without cluttering the main trampoline area. With a rowing only XCAT, you will need to purchase the rowing version of the Bow Net as it includes a bowsprit.
Bags Included
Every XCAT Row includes two high quality padded storage and transport bags. One holds the trampoline and the other has wheels and holds the crossbars, oars, rudder (optional) and most other accessories. There will even be room left over to hold a sailing package as well.
Oar Blade Feathering (RowVista)
The RowVista system allows easy feathering by rolling your hands forward. There are hard stops at the feathered and square positions to make rowing easier for newbies and relaxing for advanced rowers.
All Carbon Sculls (RowMotion)
Our all carbon 2 piece oars feature Martinoli grips and an adjustable cuff to accommodate any size rower.
Anodized Aluminum Frame
The high quality anodized aluminum frame resists dings and dents as well as being very resistant to seawater and UV degradation.
EPP Particle Foam Filled Hulls
This foam provides structural support to the HDPE hull skin material but also makes the XCAT unsinkable.
HDPE Hull Skin
Think plastic cutting board material, it is weatherproof, impact resistant and dirt repellent. These hulls are easy to clean and can withstand hard groundings on an oyster bed, even though the boat floats in ankle height water.

XCAT ROW FEATURED ACCESSORIES
Sail it. row it. power it. go ahead, it’s your move..
The XCAT combines versatility, portability and performance in a way that no other boat on the market can. The XCAT Row is perfect for achieving your fitness goals, or use it on your next river or lake rowing adventure. You can maximize the XCAT’s versatility by powering it with an optional outboard motor, or add a sailing kit to XCAT RowVista for the ability to row and sail at the same time.
XCAT Sailing Kit Add-On
If you want the best of both worlds with the ability to row and sail your XCAT Row, this is the accessory for you. The Sailing Kit has everything you need to start harnessing the wind.
- When combined with an XCAT Row model you can row it or sail it to your favorite fishing spot, or have versatility for your next adventure.
- Easily switch between rowing and sailing in 60 seconds without any hard work or tools.
- Easy to sail system allows novice sailors to “learn the ropes” without a large risk of capsizing. If you can’t get back upwind, just drop the sails and row home!
- Recommended Hiking Seats option allows you to stow your oars behind the seats keeping the trampoline clutter free.
Accessory Kit Includes: Mast, Mainsail, Genoa, Bowsprit, Rudder and all running and standing rigging.
ePropulsion Motor Electric Inboard Motor with Mount
The XCAT is a lightweight expertly engineered watercraft, and what better way to power it than a lightweight and expertly engineered electric outboard! This motor configuration was expertly designed for the XCAT. This motor is easily deployed and retracted via uphaul and downhaul control lines and features a bluetooth remote throttle for easy use! This motor is also great for motorsailing out of a narrow creek to help you get out to the big wind and water faster!
- Ready for use and folded up again in a flash (can even be used to cheat on tacks)
- almost invisibly integrated due to its slim design (no need to mount on the outboard mount)
- very light, no negative effects on weight trim when sailing (other outboards leave the starboard side of the boat heavier than port)
- collision protection (folds away in case of grounding)
Runtime Range at full power: approx. 5 miles - runtime approx. 70 minutes | Range at half power: approx. 12.5 miles - runtime approx. 5 hours
RECOMMENDED ACCESSORIES
Choosing the right accessories to make the ultimate xcat row.
Roof Rack Accessory Kit
This bundle of accessories is the perfect kit if you plan to transport your XCAT on the roof of your car. Roof rack not included—but it does include the necessary straps, pads and pegs to secure your XCAT.
Bow Mesh / Front Trampoline (Rowing)
This front trampoline is fantastic for keeping the main trampoline clean and clear for rowing! It can’t carry a person, but it can carry about 70 lbs of gear and supplies. This kit includes the trampoline and the bowsprit. If you elect to add a sail kit (which comes with a bowsprit), Red Beard suggests buying the Sailing Equipment Set which includes the bow mesh instead of this accessory.
Center Beam Seat
This seat is a great way to add a padded seat to the center of your XCAT. A good comfortable way to seat a passenger while rowing and keeping their weight center-ship.
Launching Cradles
The Launching Cradles are the easiest to use as a solo sailor and are perfect for launching and retrieving from concrete boat ramps and moving the boat over hard ground like dirt. It struggles a bit in super soft sand.
Launching Cart with Balloon Tires
This upgraded Launching Cart comes with purpose built balloon tires which makes moving your XCAT on soft sand much easier.
Sailing Equipment Set
This bundle of sailing accessories includes: Hiking Seats, Bow Mesh, Tiller-Fix and Hiking Straps. All of these are highly recommended for sailing on the XCAT and the Hiking Seats allow for easier storage of oars when not in use.
If you’ve elected to add the Sail kit to your XCAT Row, then this mast float will be your best friend on that fateful day that you do capsize. This float prevents the boat from turtling and makes righting the boat very quick and easy.
The SUP paddle is fairly self-explanatory and stores perfectly behind the optional hiking seats. Red Beard recommends this plus the Tiller-Fix if you opt for no outboard or rowing system. This paddle is collapsible to a small paddle or a full length SUP paddle.
The tiller-fix is a super simple contraption that essentially holds your rudder off to one side. This can be used to hold your course while sailing or to countersteer a solo SUP paddler.
Standard with the XCAT Row RowMotion or RowVista options, but also can be ordered separately. This is a great bag to carry and store your running rigging in, to keep it from getting tangled in transport.
Dry Bag - HIKO
This waterproof bag easily mounts on rowing boards or the XCAT bow net. Includes additional shoulder belts for use as a backpack. Size is 18" x 12" x 6".
Stainless Steel Anchor
This is a beautiful stainless steel folding anchor that will give you some peace of mind when it comes to docking your XCAT. Includes a length of line appropriate for anchoring in waist deep water.
These fenders are cleverly upcycled, spending their former life as seats. These fenders will help protect your XCAT from damage when rubbing against anything such as another boat or a pier. This is just for one fender, so if you think you need more, be sure to add more in your cart.

Our story starts with a friendly invitation
The lights are phenomenal and have significantly increased our hull visibility and vastly increased our safety on the water — you can quote me on that thank you for an excellent product with great support back up..
- Nick Holland, Potomac Boat Club, Men's Team Bo'sun
This launch is the best coaching platform that I have used in over 20 years as a Division I rowing coach. Once I coached in one, I knew that I had to get them for my staff. We currently have 4 in Omaha. Please come to Omaha and take a test drive
- Daniel Chipps, Head Coach, Creighton Women's Rowing
We love the Kraftlight Beacons, easy to use and highly reliable, they are now a staple for any morning or evening rows. We are very happy with the RS16s. Their small turning radius is helpful on our narrower river, they are easy to maintain and transport and provide an excellent safe platform to coach from.
- Kit Bennett, Director of Rowing and Varsity Head Coach, Skyline Crew
Some navigational lights are extremely subpar—dim and unable to view from all angles. Not so for the RowKraft lights—they are the only lights you need to communicate your pathway and intentions effectively to other boats on the water. If it’s dark out, row with RowKraft navigational lights, or not at all!
- Matt Zatorski, Founder & CEO, Long Term Rower Development
Customer service by owners Barb and Tom Kraft is amazing and personalized! When the green side of one of our beloved bow lights failed, RowKraft happily accepted and serviced the light, and sent it back way quicker than expected. Love to support family-operated businesses that stand behind their stuff!

Moscow’s life 7 biggest problems and 7 solutions.
Being sick never feels nice. Imagine asking for help in this state while being in a foreign country…You would need to strain your memory while struggling to remember any Russian words or phrases. Speaking a foreign language alone is stressful enough, add to this a state of being sick and you’ll find yourself completely frustrated. But what if you could speak Russian without stress, automatically and effortlessly? I’m not suggesting you to buy some super awesome course that will make you learn Russian in 7 days. In fact, I’m not suggesting you to buy anything at all :) I simply want to show you a few effective learning techniques that will help you overcome your language barrier. So, just let me know if you’re interested in joining the effective language learners community ;)
What do you tell a taxi driver, how do you use one of Russia’s minivan taxis and how far does a “one-ride” ticket in the metro take you? Find these great tips in our article Navigating In Russian Cities . We’ll make sure you never get lost in Russia!
If you do want to try out your luck with approaching “busy people of the capital”, you might want to consider being at least a bit prepared for it, i.e. in case you don’t want to be shoved away on the spot, you might need a few handy phrases to start off a conversation and grab local’s attention by saying something in Russian. But you should also be ready for a rather fast and at some point harsh answer. The good news is that there’s a way to be prepared for such situations. And I can show you how.

No. 2 men’s heavyweight rowing downs No. 12 Navy, No. 1 women’s lightweight dominates No. 2 Harvard-Radcliffe

This weekend, the No. 2 men’s heavyweight rowing team and the No. 1 women’s lightweight rowing team officially opened their seasons. The men’s heavies hit the water against the No. 12 Naval Academy Midshipmen, while the women’s lightweights raced against the No. 2 Harvard-Radcliffe lightweights.
Men’s heavies handles Navy
Despite challenging conditions on the Severn River in Annapolis, Md., the No. 2 men’s heavyweight rowers defeated the Naval Academy Midshipmen Saturday afternoon.
Heading into the race, head coach Greg Hughes ’96 prepared the Tigers for the daunting wet and windy conditions.
“He [Coach Hughes] was trying to get us to focus on doing what we needed to win due to the conditions. He told us it wasn’t going to be conventionally pretty, but to not get too flustered and to just focus on getting ahead as early as possible,” sophomore seven seat Marcus Chute of the varsity eight boat told The Daily Princetonian.
The Tigers’ varsity eight finished ahead of the Midshipmen with a six second lead and time of 5:44.1 . Despite an early lead for the Naval Academy, Princeton quickly regained control of the race and managed to open up the margin, holding their No. 2 position in the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) preseason rankings. The boat also featured sophomore stroke seat Theo Bell and senior seven seat Marco Misasi, who were recently put on the IRCA Athlete watchlist.
“It was a good first step on the road to winning a national championship and a team points trophy,” Chute noted. “We’ve been improving pretty well each week, getting faster and faster and the boats feeling better and better. We’ve got to keep on going and keep on believing.”
The second, third, and fourth varsity eights also took down the Naval Academy with times of 5:52.0, 5:52.1, and 6:03.0, highlighting Princeton’s dominance over the weekend.
“There’s still a lot we could fix, but we have to keep our foot on the gas, get faster, and row better to build off what we did well this weekend.” First-year seven seat Kian Aminian, who raced in the second varsity eight, told the ‘Prince.’
Due to the harsh water conditions, the fifth varsity eight race was shortened to a 1,000 meter piece, in which the Tigers fell short of the Midshipmen’s time.
The Tigers’ heavies will next host an Ivy League showdown on Lake Carnegie next Saturday against the No. 11 Pennsylvania Quakers and No. 19 Columbia Lions.
“Everyone’s pretty excited to continue racing and keep getting faster. It’s our first race against other Ivy teams next weekend, so the team is looking forward to this chance to face more of our competitors.” Aminian added.
Lightweight women sweep Harvard-Radcliffe
This past Saturday, the Princeton Lightweight women’s rowing team showed their strength in their season opener against the Harvard-Radcliffe team, claiming all three wins. After winning their third consecutive national championship last season, the Tiger lightweights are again the defending Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Champions, and are looking to build off of an undefeated 2023 spring campaign.
The morning started off strong with the Tigers’ first victory coming in the double scull race, as junior Amelia Boehle and junior Sidney Bae jumped out ahead and held the lead all the way to the finish, besting the Crimson by an 18.7 second margin.
Princeton continued their successful morning in the varsity four, defeating Harvard-Radcliffe 8:06.8–8:09.3. Unlike the double, the Tigers and the Crimson maintained overlap for the majority of the piece. Through the last 500 meters, Princeton seemed to gain control, and continued this control through the final sprint. The Tigers crossed the line with a three second lead.
Most notably, the Tigers’ varsity eight defended the Class of 1999 Cup for their fifth consecutive year, and now lead the all-time series 18–6. The eights remained bow ball-to-bow ball through the two minute mark of the piece. Though the Crimson began to take seats from the Tigers, the Tigers quickly responded with a powerful move through the 1,000 meter mark. Princeton finished with a three second lead over Harvard-Radcliffe to close out a triumphant weekend.
“I was happy knowing that the winter training we’ve done has paid off.” First-year three seat Alice McCarthy of the lightweight eight told the ‘Prince.’ “We spent a lot of time doing side by side racing against our other teammates and the women's openweight team. Having that confidence of having past racing experience against other fast crews helped us in that regard.”
Princeton will travel across the country to face the No. 3 Stanford team next weekend in California.
“We need to stay adaptable. We will be somewhere we are unfamiliar with and have to trust our fitness and our speed.” McCarthy added. “It’s just racing, just have to put your blade in and go fast.”
Francie McKenzie is a Sports contributor for the ‘Prince.’

FEIG ELECTRONIC: Moscow-City Skyscrapers Streamline Parking Access and Control with Secure RFID
Feig electronic partners with isbc group to deploy ucode dna rfid security and parking access control solution in moscow business district.
Weilburg, Germany — December 3, 2019 — FEIG ELECTRONIC , a leading global supplier of radio frequency identification (RFID) readers and antennas with fifty years of industry experience, announces deployment of the UCODE DNA RFID security and parking contactless identification solution in the Moscow International Business Center, known as Moscow-City, one of the world’s largest business district projects.
The management of Moscow-City not only selected long-range, passive UHF RFID to implement in its controlled parking areas, it also chose to implement UCODE DNA , the highest form of secure RAIN RFID technology, developed by NXP Semiconductors.
Panoramic view of Moscow city and Moskva River at sunset. New modern futuristic skyscrapers of Moscow-City – International Business Center, toned
“Underscoring NXP’s innovation and leadership in developing advanced RAIN RFID technologies, our UCODE DNA was chosen to be incorporated with the FEIG and ISBC implementation of the contactless identification system in the prestigious Moscow-City,” said Mahdi Mekic, marketing director for RAIN RFID with NXP Semiconductors. “This exciting project represents yet another successful deployment of NXP’s contactless portfolio, and showcases our continued ability to meet the high-security requirements of highly demanding applications without compromising user convenience.”
“UCODE DNA is considered the only identification technology to match the physical protection of a barrier with the cybersecurity necessary to truly protect entrances from unauthorized access,” said Manuel Haertlé, senior product manager for FEIG Electronic. “As a respected contactless payment technology company, FEIG applies security know-how from its payment terminals, which are fully certified according to the latest high-class security standards, into our RFID systems. FEIG vehicle access control RFID readers incorporate advanced secure key storage elements, supporting various methods for secure key injection.”
FEIG’s partner ISBC Group provided the knowledge and support for this successful implementation using FEIG’s long-range UHF RFID . The resulting system enables authorized vehicle entry into areas reserved for private residential use or corporate tenants, while also allowing availability of temporary, fee-based visitor parking. Thanks to the cryptographic authentication of UCODE DNA, both the tag and reader must go through an authentication procedure before the reader will validate the data from the tag, which is transmitted wirelessly. This level of authentication is typically used in the most secure data communication networks.
“The system’s two-step authentication means that only authorized equipment can handle the secure protocol and the data exchange with the UCODE DNA based tag. Without the required cryptographic secrets, other readers would query the tag in vain, because the tag’s response cannot be interpreted or understood,” said Andrey Krasovskiy, director of the RFID department at ISBC Group. “On top of this, each data exchange in the authentication process is unique, so even if a malicious actor were to intercept the communication, the transmission is only good for a single exchange and the tag’s unique identity is protected from cloning.”
Established in 1992 and still growing, Moscow-City is the revitalization and transformation of an industrial riverfront into a new, modern, vibrant and upscale business and residential district. A mix of residential, hotel, office, retail and entertainment facilities, it is located about four kilometers west of Red Square along the Moscow River. Twelve of the twenty-three planned facilities have already been completed, with seven currently under construction. Six skyscrapers in Moscow-City reach a height of at least 300 meters, including Europe’s tallest building, Federation Tower, which rises more than 100 stories.
Partnering with ISBC and deploying FEIG Electronic RFID solutions, the Moscow International Business Center is delivering security and access control to its city center today, as it grows into the city of tomorrow.

The One Million Trees Programme in Moscow, Russia
In 2013, the One Million Trees programme was launched with the intention of bringing more greenery to Moscow’s citizens. As of now, Moscow ranks among the greenest cities worldwide, with 54% public green space. The project was initiated to plant individual trees in gardens, streets, and inner yards of apartment buildings. Unique about the One Million Trees programme is the bottom-up approach used in the implementation: planting locations and species are chosen by local residents via a digital app. Gardeners closely manage the trees and shrubs for the first 12 months – the most challenging period of their growth cycle. Since 2013, more than four million trees have been planted. In 2021, Moscow has further pledged its green development under the global “Trees in Cities Challenge” of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The next priorities are adding new trees to public parks and increasing monitoring of urban canopy.

Challenges addressed
The One Million Trees project has significantly increased the tree cover in Moscow City. In 2020, 14,000 trees and almost 1,000 shrubs were planted. In 2021, the goal is to plant more than 11,500 trees and about 400,000 shrubs. The extensive tree planting allows for local CO2 uptake, regulation of urban temperature, reduced erosion, and increased biodiversity.
With regards to the participatory approach, more than 218,000 residents of Moscow took part in voting on the location of the placement of greenery. Based on the preferences of locals, planting is focused on places where social benefits are high, such as schools, hospitals, and retirement homes. The shrub and tree species are also chosen by locals from a selection of native varieties. The One Million Trees project provides an excellent example of how to involve citizens in decision-making for urban forestry projects.

In contrast to traditional courts, SSCo.’s free-standing structure doesn’t require fitted deck sockets and poles. As such, the court is suitable for vessels that cannot accommodate additional fittings. Furthermore, the modular design can adapt to many different yacht layouts. It can be erected on the bow or helideck, for example.
The court features a sleek carbon frame and a mix of Plexiglass and mesh panels. As a result, the structure is strong and durable yet also lightweight. It is easy to assemble and pack down, according to SSCo. The flat panels also make storing the court a dream.
“Our Padel Court features custom-designed elements tailored to the unique challenges of maritime environments,” adds SSCo. technical manager Richard Clements. “From specialized materials to innovative engineering solutions, every aspect of the court has been carefully crafted to ensure optimal functionality and durability.”
The court was, of course, designed to bring the exciting new sport of padel to the decks of superyachts. For the unversed, padel is a mix of tennis and squash that is rapidly growing in popularity worldwide. The court can also be used for sports such as squash or racketball. You could even partake in pickleball if you fancy.
“Our Padel Court redefines onboard entertainment, providing an experience that is unmatched in the industry,” Clements concludes.

1. Crowds and noise. Let's be honest. There are way too many people in Moscow, somewhere between 11 million and 20 million, depending on who you talk to. The streets are always crowded and it's even worse in the Metro. It can be kind of scary and overwhelming at times.

So, for a boat travelling at 10 miles per hour, the drag is proportional to 10 x 10 = 100. For the same boat travelling at 11 miles per hour, the drag is proportional to 11 x 11 = 121. So, in simple terms, to go from 10 to 11 mph, 20+ per cent more power is required to propel the same boat. The lesson from this simple rule is that the lighter ...
