Is “The Revenant” available on Netflix?

Many movie enthusiasts are constantly on the lookout for their favorite films on popular streaming platforms like Netflix. If you’re wondering whether “The Revenant” is available to stream on Netflix, the answer is both yes and no. Let me explain.

At the time of writing, “The Revenant” is not included in Netflix’s library for most regions. However, this can vary depending on your geographical location and regional licensing agreements. Netflix has a constantly changing catalog, with titles being added and removed periodically. So, even if “The Revenant” is not currently available, it’s always worth checking back to see if it becomes available in the future.

While “The Revenant” may not be on Netflix for the majority of users, it doesn’t mean you have to miss out on watching this incredible film. There are alternative ways to access it, which I will explain in more detail later in this article.

It’s important to note that streaming rights for films can be exclusive to specific platforms or subject to licensing agreements, which is why the availability of certain movies may vary across different streaming services. Netflix, as a platform, prioritizes a diverse range of content to cater to its wide user base. So, while “The Revenant” may not currently be on Netflix, the platform offers a plethora of other exciting and popular movies and TV shows to choose from.

In summary, while “The Revenant” may not be available for streaming on Netflix at the moment, it’s always worth keeping an eye on the platform’s catalog for any updates or additions. Alternatively, there are other avenues to watch this critically acclaimed film, as we will explore in the following sections.

Can I watch “The Revenant” on Netflix for free?

As much as we all love free things, unfortunately, watching “The Revenant” on Netflix for free is not possible. Netflix operates on a subscription-based model, where users pay a monthly fee to access their extensive library of movies and TV shows. While some movies and shows may be available for a free trial period, “The Revenant” is not typically offered as part of this trial.

Netflix invests a significant amount of money in acquiring and producing high-quality content, and they rely on their subscription fees to continue providing a vast array of entertainment options. This includes licensing fees for popular movies like “The Revenant,” which is one of the reasons why they cannot offer it for free.

That said, subscribing to Netflix is still a great value for the amount and variety of content you get access to. With a subscription, you can enjoy unlimited streaming of movies, TV series, documentaries, and more from various genres. This includes acclaimed originals like “Stranger Things,” “The Crown,” and “Narcos,” as well as a rotating selection of popular movies from different decades and genres.

So, while “The Revenant” may not be available for free on Netflix, the subscription fee allows you to explore a wide range of other fantastic content at your convenience. If you’re a fan of movies and TV shows, investing in a Netflix subscription is definitely worth considering.

If you’re specifically interested in watching “The Revenant” and don’t want to subscribe to Netflix, there are alternate ways to access the film, which we will discuss in the next section.

How to access “The Revenant” on Netflix

While “The Revenant” may not be available on Netflix’s regular streaming catalog, there are still ways to access and watch the film on the platform. Here are some methods you can try to enjoy this gripping movie:

1. Use a VPN

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) can help you bypass regional restrictions and access content that may not be available in your country. By connecting to a server located in a region where “The Revenant” is available on Netflix, you can unlock the film and stream it. Simply choose a reliable VPN service, install the appropriate software, and connect to a server in a supported region. Keep in mind that this method may be against Netflix’s terms of service, so proceed with caution.

2. Check other Netflix regions

Netflix’s library can vary significantly depending on the region. Some movies are available in certain regions while being absent in others. If you have access to multiple Netflix regions, try switching to a region where “The Revenant” is available. However, keep in mind that Netflix actively blocks VPNs and proxy services, so this method may not always be successful.

3. DVD or Blu-ray rental

If you are a subscriber to Netflix’s DVD or Blu-ray rental service, you may have a higher chance of finding “The Revenant” in their physical media catalog. Netflix still offers this service in some regions, allowing you to rent movies and have them delivered to your doorstep. Check the availability of “The Revenant” in their DVD catalog and rent it for a convenient and traditional movie-watching experience.

It’s important to note that the availability of “The Revenant” might change over time due to licensing agreements and regional restrictions. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to double-check Netflix’s catalog or reach out to their customer support for the most up-to-date information on accessing the film.

By employing one of the methods above, you can increase your chances of watching “The Revenant” on Netflix, providing you with the opportunity to experience this captivating and award-winning film from the comfort of your own home.

Step-by-step guide on watching “The Revenant” on Netflix

If you’re eager to watch “The Revenant” on Netflix, but it’s not available in your region or on your regular Netflix catalog, don’t worry! Here is a step-by-step guide to help you navigate through the process and hopefully enjoy this remarkable film.

Step 1: Check Netflix availability

Start by checking the availability of “The Revenant” on Netflix by searching for the movie in your region. You can use the search feature on the Netflix website or mobile app to see if it appears in your regular catalog. If it doesn’t show up, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Consider using a reliable VPN

To access “The Revenant” on Netflix, you may need to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service. A VPN allows you to connect to servers in different regions, tricking Netflix into thinking you are accessing the platform from an authorized location. Choose a reputable VPN provider and install their software on your device. Connect to a server in a region where “The Revenant” is available on Netflix.

Step 3: Sign up or log in to your Netflix account

If you don’t have a Netflix account yet, sign up for a subscription on their website or through their mobile app. If you already have an account, log in using your credentials. Make sure you are using the account associated with the region you connected to using the VPN. Netflix will present you with the catalog available in that region.

Step 4: Search for “The Revenant”

Once you’re logged in, use the search function within Netflix to look for “The Revenant.” Type the movie’s title into the search bar and hit enter. If the film is available in the region you connected to using the VPN, it should appear in the search results.

Step 5: Start streaming

Once you’ve found “The Revenant” in the search results, click on the movie’s thumbnail to access its details. You will be directed to the movie’s page where you can read the synopsis, view ratings, and choose your preferred audio and subtitle options. Click on the “Play” button to start streaming the film and enjoy the captivating story of revenge and survival.

Keep in mind that using a VPN to access content on Netflix may be against their terms of service. Netflix actively blocks VPNs and proxy services, so there is a chance your access may be limited or restricted. Also, availability of “The Revenant” on Netflix can change, so it’s always a good idea to check for updates and alternative methods.

By following these steps, you’ll have a better chance of watching “The Revenant” on Netflix, bringing you closer to experiencing the intense journey of Hugh Glass as portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio.

10 Best South Korean TV Shows of 2023

By Geoffrey Bunting

Geoffrey Bunting

2023 has been a hell of a year for South Korean TV. We may not have had a megahit like Squid Game or All of Us Are Dead , but it feels like a year in which Hallyu has firmly embedded itself into the global cultural consciousness, with some of the biggest South Korean shows of the year spoken about in the same breath as Western hits.

We’ve seen major streamers start to challenge Netflix’s monopoly on K-dramas, we’ve hopefully stopped comparing every single new show to Squid Game , and we’ve been inundated with an incredible roster of shows that makes distilling them into 10 difficult, to say the least. We’ve not even included anything from Viki, the specialist K-drama streaming service, in order to keep things accessible, but honorable mentions should be given to Twinkling Watermelon and A Good Day to be a Dog . From one of the best superhero series we’ve ever seen to reminders that Korean horror remains the best, from typical romances to welcome subversions of the genre, 2023 is without a standout show because we had it so good all year .

The Glory (Netflix)

The Glory Song Hye-kyo as Moon Dong-eun in The Glory Cr. Graphyoda/Netflix © 2022

After the success of Little Women , The Glory was destined to be a hit. A bloody, bold revenge thriller that sees Moon Dong-eun (Song Hye-kyo) get brutal revenge on her childhood bullies, it’s everything that we love about K-thrillers: dark, bloody, and chock-full of twists. It’s a shame it was cut in two for no reason and you do sometimes have to work to root for Dong-eun as she straight up terrorizes people. But a top-tier cast and a wickedly dark tone make it an excellent addition to an already crowded list of great South Korean thrillers.

Mask Girl (Netflix)

Mask Girl Cr. Jun Hea-sun/Netflix © 2023

Mask Girl didn’t make the same waves as The Glory owing to a quiet release by Netflix. But it is an innovative and timely thriller that doesn’t deserve to fly under the radar. Its setup is typical: Lee Han-byeol’s Kim Mo-mi is an insecure office worker who secretly moonlights as a masked camgirl. It’s when her secret is revealed that the show shines. Through the use of two extra actors to play Mo-mi at different parts of her life (After School’s Nana and Go Hyun-jung), Mask Girl becomes a thrilling examination of what it means to be a woman in modern Korea.

Divorce Attorney Shin (Netflix)

A scene from 'Divorce Attorney Shin.'

As a courtroom procedural, Divorce Attorney Shin is a competent legal drama. Its masterstroke, however, is casting Cho Seung-woo to play the titular Shin Sung-han, a musician who returns to South Korea to practice law. Before his star turn in Netflix’s Stranger , Cho took a break from acting to pursue musical theater and Divorce Attorney Shin takes full advantage of that, having him sing around the office, in the car, and in front of his enormous stereo in a way that humanizes Shin better than his oblique kindness ever could. It’s one reason why the series works best outside of the courtroom, especially when bringing Shin together with his best friends Jang Hyeong-geun (Kim Sung-kyun) and Jo Jeong-sik (Jung Moon-sung). You’re unlikely to see such a healthy and fun depiction of male friendship anywhere else this year.

See You in My 19th Life (Netflix)

A scene from 'See You in My 19th Life.'

Based on the WEBTOON of the same name , See You in My 19th Life is another reminder that when it comes to time-bending tales, South Korea is king. Ban Ji-eum (Shin Hye-sun) has reincarnated nineteen times and finally tries to reconnect to her past and reunite with lost love Moon Seo-ha (Ahn Bo-hyun). As Ji-eum starts remembering more about her past lives, however, it becomes a proposition fraught with more danger than she can imagine.

It’s from Ji-eum’s otherworldly maturity — she’s technically a thousand years old — that the show draws its comedy, and Shin Hye-sun has made a habit of portraying interesting characters. In Ji-eum, she cuts a confident, dominating, and multi-faceted figure at odds with the prescriptive roles so many K-drama leads occupy. It makes for a startling dynamic between Ji-eum and Seo-ha that’s both fun and energetic. It’s a weird series, often baffling, but ultimately charming if you want a K-romance with a difference.

Welcome to Samdal-ri (Netflix)

A scene from 'Welcome to Samdal-ri.'

Speaking of Shin Hye-sun, she leads the latest iteration of a show South Korea has been making every year. If you’ve seen Hometown Cha Cha Cha , When the Weather is Fine , or Once Upon a Small Town , you’ve already got the gist of Welcome to Samdal-ri . Is that a bad thing? No way. We cannot get enough.

As with all these shows, it’s a setback in Seoul that sends world-renowned photographer Jo Sam-dal (Shin) hurtling  back to the rural hometown she vowed to escape. There, she must reevaluate what she wants from life while reuniting with a past love who pushes her to see her erstwhile home in a new light. As a storyline, it’s not new at all . But through Shin Hye-sun’s rising star power the repetitive nature of these stories — which, again, we love — is less a rehash than a refinement, making Welcome to Samdal-ri not just the best version of this story, but one of the best romances of the year.

Soundtrack #2 (Disney+)

A scene from 'Soundtrack #2.'

Hidden deep within Disney+, thanks to Disney’s refusal to promote its South Korean programming in the West, is this quiet drama about the rocky road to rekindling romance. It casts Keum Sae-rok as struggling pianist Do Hyun-seo, who catches a lucky break when the CEO of a popular YouTube channel, Ji Su-ho (Noh Sang-hyun), is forced into a period of rest and takes up piano lessons. The complication being that Su-ho is Hyun-seo’s ex, and now working with her new friend and obvious third in an impending love triangle, “K” (Son Jeong-hyuk). It’s not an unusual setup for a K-romance, but Soundtrack #2 manages to navigate the complexities of past loves becoming present with heart and soul in a six-episode package, making it feel like a surprisingly fresh take on the K-romance formula.

Doona! (Netflix)

DOONA! (L to R) Bae Suzy as Lee Doona, Yang Se-jong as Lee Won-jun in DOONA! Cr. Kim Seung-wan/Netflix © 2023

From the outside, Doona! looks like a typical K-romance, and in many ways it is ( you can read our review here ). It captures all the right clichés but, for the most part, turns them around in unexpected ways. It’s a series of two halves. The first, a startling examination of grief as Bae Suzy’s ailing K-pop idol, Lee Doo-na, retreats from the public eye only to land in a shared student house. There, she meets the earnest, somewhat clueless, and always showering (boy’s got abs) Lee Won-jun (Yang Se-jong). As their relationship develops, Doo-na’s world begins to turn again.

That bittersweet drama is somewhat derailed when Doona! falls into more typical K-romance tropes without any attempt to subvert them. What could have been a refreshingly bittersweet story of community and renewal gives way to something more clichéd. But, for its faults, Doona! is a timely and beautiful reminder of everything that makes K-romances great.

Daily Dose of Sunshine (Netflix)

can i watch the revenant on netflix

The hidden gem of the year. Unlike similar shows that examine disability and mental health in South Korea, Daily Dose of Sunshine is a sincere and sensitive look at mental illness — something all the more pertinent as suicide rates in South Korea increase . Transferred from internal medicine to psychiatry for being too nice to her patients, Jung Da-eun (Park Bo-young) slowly comes to understand the human side of mental health and grapples with her own wellbeing in the process.

Daily Dose of Sunshine doesn’t always get things right, not least when flatly reading definitions of mental illness. But more importantly it never treats these stories as inspiration, driving its narrative through a debunking of misconceptions and a recentering of the humanity of mental health. It’s at its very best when characters simply talk to each other and allow themselves to be vulnerable — all facilitated by a cast on top of its game who help weave it all into a heartfelt drama that can’t help but draw you in.

Revenant (Hulu, Disney+ outside of the U.S.)

A scene from 'Revenant.'

Evoking a style of horror that is sadly out-of-fashion in the west, Revenant is the slowest of slow burns: a brooding ghost story with little interest in jumpscares focused instead on the human toll of lost souls, and the people they leave behind. Kim Tae-ri is already established as one of Korea’s best actors, but Revenant is a tour de force as she flips effortlessly between the frightened, defeated Gu San-yeong and the murderous spirit who possesses her. All while taciturn professor Yeom Hae-sang (Oh Jung-se) fights to save her — and conceal his own secrets. Most importantly, unlike so many horror shows nowadays, it remembers to be scary. It’s a cold, drawn-out, and genuinely creepy look at the human side of horror and if you like Dark Water or The Wailing , you’ll love Revenant . Check out our review here .

Moving (Hulu, Disney+ outside of the U.S.)

can i watch the revenant on netflix

Taking into account only the brutal superhero setpieces of Moving , it would still top this list. Outperforming Marvel and Star Wars in some territories, it’s evidence that “superhero fatigue” is easily cured by a well-told, transcendent, high-budget action series like this one.

It is, however, so much more than that. It’s set up as a meet cute between two superpowered pals, Kim Bong-seok (Lee Jung-ha) and Jang Hui-soo (Go Youn-jung), that’s interrupted by an American agent, “Frank” (Ryoo Seung-bum), intent on wiping out South Korea’s superpowered threats. By its end, Moving is a meditation on inequality in which our superpowered protagonists are ciphers for all those forced to live on the fringes of society. Driven by remarkable performances, especially by Ryu Seung-ryong and Han Hyo-joo, we come to understand these aren’t superheroes. They’re lonely people, isolated by their otherness, in desperate need of companionship.

Calling Moving a superhero show is unfair. It defies classification as just one thing, to the point that Moving isn’t just the best South Korean show of the year, it’s one of the best series of 2023 period .

Stream These 9 Movies Before They Leave Netflix in January

A lot of big movies by big-name directors are leaving soon for U.S. subscribers. Watch them while you can.

A woman in a yellow dress and a man in a white shirt and black tie fling their arms out while dancing with a few across Los Angeles behind them.

By Jason Bailey

In January, several big movies from an impressive coterie of marquee directors — including Sofia Coppola, Luca Guadagnino, Yorgos Lanthimos, Spike Lee, Jordan Peele and Robert Rodriguez — leave Netflix in the United States, along with a zippy comedy, an entertaining animated sequel and what may be the most famous runner-up in Oscars history. (Dates indicate the final day a title is available.)

‘BlacKkKlansman’ (Jan. 5)

Stream it here .

Better late than never: Spike Lee won his first competitive Oscar for co-writing the screenplay to this deft combination of social satire and police procedural, which he also directed. It details the true story of how the Colorado police detective Ron Stallworth (John David Washington) infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan — despite the fact that Stallworth is Black. Lee plays Stallworth’s ruse, achieved with a clever combination of phone calls and undercover work by his white, Jewish partner (Adam Driver), for laughs. But the danger of the operation is ever-present, building considerable tension to a conclusion that ingeniously and gut-wrenchingly ties the past to the present.

‘Get Out’ (Jan. 5)

When Jordan Peele’s crossover to feature filmmaking was announced in the mid-2010s, most audiences — familiar only with his work as half of the sketch comedy team Key & Peele — presumed he would continue to work in that wild comic style. No one could have predicted that he would turn the entire horror genre upside down, but that’s exactly what he did with this nail-biting combination of social commentary and scary movie. What begins as a “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” riff — a wealthy young white woman (Allison Williams) bringing her Black boyfriend (Daniel Kaluuya) home to meet her parents — turns into something far more sinister and unpredictable; Peele’s insights as a screenwriter are pointed and even profound, and his directorial instincts are striking from Frame 1.

‘Spy Kids’ (Jan. 12)

Just as it’s hard to remember that Peele wasn’t always associated with horror, recall that there was once a time when the idea of Robert Rodriguez — known then for his hyperkinetic action movies — making a family film was shocking. But he changed all of that with this 2001 smash, in which two average kids (the charismatic duo of Daryl Sabara and Alexa Vega) discover that their seemingly boring parents (Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino, both delightfully game) are in fact globe-trotting super spies; a mission has gone awry, and the kids have to save them. Rodriguez’s imaginative scenario plugs right in to childhood play, and his handmade style is a smooth fit for kid-friendly cinema. (The second and third chapters in the franchise leave Netflix the same day.)

‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’ (Jan. 22)

The director Yorgos Lanthimos and the actor Barry Keoghan have two of the most talked-about movies of the fall in “Poor Things” and “Saltburn”; back in 2017, they collaborated on a film that makes both of those efforts seem comparatively tame. Colin Farrell stars as a seemingly normal heart surgeon whose peculiar interactions with Keoghan, the son of a former patient, escalate into deeply troubling territory. Farrell strikes a perfect key of revealing nothing without hiding anything, Nicole Kidman is excellent as his wife (with secrets of her own) and Keoghan’s mere presence is effortlessly disturbing.

‘Baby Mama’ (Jan. 31)

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler took their considerable chemistry from “Saturday Night Live” to the big screen in this charming 2008 buddy comedy. Fey stars as Kate, an uptight executive who hears the ticking of her biological clock and seeks out a surrogate: Poehler is Angie, wildly immature and worrisomely irresponsible. It’s a classic opposites attract story, and the story beats contain few surprises. But Fey and Poehler are so easily entertaining and tuned in to each other’s wavelengths that even the throwaway lines land big laughs, and the stacked supporting cast (including Greg Kinnear, Romany Malco, Steve Martin, Dax Shepard, Holland Taylor, Maura Tierney, and Sigourney Weaver) more than pulls its weight.

‘The Bling Ring’ (Jan. 31)

Last year’s Netflix original docu-series “The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist” dived into the true story of the crew of Los Angeles teenagers busted in 2009 for burglarizing the homes of several boldfaced names. That may satisfy true crime aficionados, but Sofia Coppola’s 2013 dramatization offers more than mere star gazing and rubbernecking. Her textured and experiential aesthetic is a perfect fit for this tale of shiny surfaces and conspicuous consumption; it isn’t exactly sympathetic to the teen criminals at its center, but it is empathetic to the feeling of being surrounded by unimaginable wealth and the thrill of having it (literally) in your grasp.

‘Call Me by Your Name’ (Jan. 31)

Sometimes a movie can seem to mosey and meander, running on vibes and nostalgia, and then snap itself together with full emotional force in its closing passages. That’s what happens in Luca Guadagnino’s adaptation of the novel by André Aciman (with a screenplay by the great James Ivory, of Merchant-Ivory productions). Timothée Chalamet is remarkable in the leading role of the 17-year-old Elio, a withdrawn young man who falls in love for the first time with a visiting graduate student (Armie Hammer). The rural Italian locations are gorgeous, and the supporting players are charming (particularly Michael Stuhlbarg as Elio’s understanding father). But most important, and impressive, is Guadagnino’s skill at capturing the sheer intoxication of one’s first flush of love and playful lust.

‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2’ (Jan. 31)

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who adapted the beloved children’s book for the original “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” in 2009, did not return for this 2013 sequel, and their absence is felt; the new team can’t quite replicate the gonzo energy and wild wit of the first picture. But it maintains that film’s considerable charm, thanks primarily to the winning vocal work of Bill Hader as the perpetually nervous inventor Flint Lockwood and Anna Faris as Sam Sparks, a brainy meteorologist (and Flint’s best girl).

‘La La Land’ (Jan. 31)

This 2016 romance from Damien Chazelle was a critical and commercial smash (and, notoriously, almost the Oscar winner for best picture ) — not always the fate of big-screen musicals in the modern era. But Chazelle’s creation is irresistible, from the sheer spectacular enthusiasm of its song-and-dance numbers to the heartfelt lead performances of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone to Chazelle’s undeniable and infectious affection for the great musicals of yesteryear.

Also leaving: “ Ma ” (1/5), “ Begin Again ” (1/24), “ Eat Pray Love ,” “ Forgetting Sarah Marshall ” (1/31).

10 best Netflix movies to watch on New Year’s Eve

Jason Struss

Christmas is over and there’s still one major holiday left in 2023: New Year’s Eve. Unlike most holidays, New Year’s Eve is a day and night used for non-stop partying. That usually involves getting dressed up, buying some alcohol or food (or at least some Ring Dings and Pepsi), and enduring the crush of crowds as they say goodbye to 2023 and hello to 2024.

No Hard Feelings (2023)

The killer (2023), field of dreams (1989), ouija: origin of evil (2016), the imitation game (2014), leave the world behind (2023), dune (2021), reptile (2023), stand by me (1986).

  • My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997)

Digital Trends has a different party in mind: a movie party. Why go out when you can stay home, log in to your Netflix subscription, and hang out with cool people like Timothée Chalamet, Julia Roberts, or Jennifer Lawrence? The following list includes films from genres like sci-fi, thrillers, and comedies, and boasts new titles just released and classics from the ’80s and ’90s. It’s the perfect way to celebrate New Year’s Eve, and it’s pretty cheap, too.

  • 3 great action movies to watch on New Year’s Eve
  • 3 great comedies you have to watch on New Year’s Eve

Already longing for the summer? The best way to relive the sunny season is through Jennifer Lawrence and Netflix. One of the funniest summer comedies released last year was No Hard Feelings . The movie focuses on Maddie Barker (Lawrence), who, on the verge of losing her childhood home after neglecting to pay property taxes, accepts an offer from a wealthy couple to deflower their introverted teenage son Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman, new to movies but a Broadway veteran).

Yes, No Hard Feelings is bawdy and more than earns its R rating, but it’s also surprisingly sweet and, at times, touching. Lawrence has good chemistry with Feldman, and the bittersweet ending will make you feel great as you welcome in 2024.

One of 2023’s best movies was David Fincher’s noir thriller The Killer , starring two-time Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender and Oscar winner Tilda Swinton. The plot follows the titular character, who embarks on an international manhunt following a botched hit in Paris.

Cool and stylish, The Killer is for action movie fans who enjoyed John Wick: Chapter 4 or any of Fincher’s past works like Se7en or Zodiac . Fassbender shines as the titular assassin, whose deadpan delivery gives the movie a nice comedic kick. Unexpectedly, bitingly funny, and savage, and offering the kind of electrifying moments that make action movies truly timeless, The Killer will surely become a modern classic.

“If you build it, he will come.” Everyone knows that line and almost everyone knows it was uttered in Field of Dreams , the ultimate dad movie, if there ever was one. Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) is an Iowa corn farmer who receives a mysterious message while walking his field. An ominous voice says, “If you build it, he will come.” Ray then sees an image of Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta).

Despite his financial hardships, Ray plows a section of his field and builds a baseball diamond. The field becomes a stomping ground for the ghosts of famous baseball players, who begin to play games at night. However, Ray realizes baseball is only the first step as the voice takes him on a journey of self-discovery across the country.

The original  Ouija  movie isn’t good, but Origin of Evil  is the rare prequel that’s actually better than the original. When a woman in 1967 decides to improve her séance act, she inadvertently calls on actual dark spirits. When one of her daughters is possessed, she must fight to save her child and send the spirits back to the realm they came from.

Although it has a by-the-numbers plot, Fall of the House of Usher ‘s Mike Flanagan’s sharp direction makes the movie unsettling in ways that most horror movies fail to accomplish. It’s a genuinely scary movie and an effectively spooky way to ring in the new year.

Oppenheimer was one of 2023’s most popular and critically acclaimed movies. It’s not on Netflix yet, but if you want something like it, The Imitation Game should do the trick. Like Oppenheimer’s treatment in the United States, England was unfair and unkind to Alan Turing post-World War II. Turing also played an integral role in swinging the war in favor of the Allies through his codebreaking work at Bletchley Park during WWII.

Directed by Morten Tyldum, The Imitation Game stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Turing , a British mathematician and computer scientist recruited to work for the British government in 1939. Because of his interest in cryptography, Turing and a team of cryptanalysts are tasked with deciphering the Enigma machine, the cipher device used by the Nazis to send secret messages. With an intriguing premise, great performances by Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley, and a literate Oscar-winning screenplay, The Imitation Game  is a brainy WWII thriller that should satisfy fans of Oppenheimer or historical thrillers.

If you’re more in the mood for vague, end-of-the-world-maybe movies, we have just the film for you. Adapted from Rumaan Alam’s 2020 novel of the same name, Leave the World Behind stars Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke as Amanda and Clay, a couple on vacation on Long Island. But their vacation takes a turn when two strangers (Mahershala Ali and Myha’la) arrive in the middle of the night seeking refuge from a cyberattack. In their little refuge, the four people must come to terms with a world that is rapidly collapsing around them.

Already one of Netflix’s most popular movies ever, Leave the World Behind is enjoyably absurd. As usual, Roberts is great, and Hawke once again displays a boyish charm that’s made him into one of the most enjoyably low-key actors around. Just leave your common sense, and your Tesla , at the door.

Dune: Part Two is coming out later in 2024, so now’s a good time to go back and rewatch the original, which is one of the best modern sci-fi films. On Arrakis, the most important world in the Galactic Empire, Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) has been given the near-impossible task of making peace with the native Fremen while maintaining the spice flow that allows humanity to travel in space. But when House Atreides is betrayed by the emperor and delivered to their rivals House Harkonnen, Leto’s son, Paul Atreides ( Wonka ‘s Timothée Chalamet), and his mother, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), are forced to flee for their lives into the unforgiving deserts of Dune.

Only 3 years old, Dune still packs a visual and visceral punch, and the cast, which also features Jason Momoa, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, and Dave Bautista, is even more impressive now that they’ve starred in hits like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in the intervening years. Dune ‘s a great way to transport yourself to another world without ever having to leave the comfort of your home.

Ignored when it was first released last year,  Reptile is an intense crime thriller that never lets the audience get too comfortable with its main character, Detective Tom Nichols (played by Benicio del Toro). In the film, a young woman named Summer (Matilda Lutz) has been killed, and her body is discovered by her boyfriend, Will Grady (Justin Timberlake, taking a break from singing pop songs). And it seems like several men in Summer’s life could have meant her harm, including Grady himself.

As he delves further into the case, Nichols shares some of the details with his wife, Judy ( Clueless star Alicia Silverstone). But even Nichols’ relationship with Judy may not be what it seems as he is forced to reexamine his own life while looking for the answers that could bring a killer to justice. Reptile is a great showcase for lead star del Toro, who makes for an ideal noir hero: conflicted, brooding, and just ever so slightly dangerous.

This one is for anyone feeling nostalgic or wanting a good coming-of-age movie. One of the best Stephen King adaptations ever, Stand by Me, is set in 1959 in Castle Rock, Oregon. After learning about the location of a missing boy’s body, 12-year-old Gordon “Gordie” Lachance (Wil Wheaton before he was on Star Trek: The Next Generation ), and his friends Chris Chambers (River Phoenix), Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman), and Vern Tessio (Jerry O’Connell) decide to find the body in the hope of being recognized as heroes.

Along the way, they encounter aggressive dogs, truly evil bullies, and some slugs that turn up in the unlikeliest of places. Unlike most of King’s works, Stand By Me isn’t concerned with the supernatural; instead, it tackles something far more scary–growing up and learning to let go. The last five minutes constitute one of the all-time great movie endings, and you’ll be humming the title song well into 2024.

My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997)

Everyone bemoans the decline of the theatrical rom-com, but why complain when one of the classics in the genre is right there in your Netflix queue? Julia Roberts is both the hero and the villain in My Best Friend’s Wedding , a unique take on a classic narrative where the girl wants the boy even though he’s engaged to someone else. Roberts’ Julianne Potter tries to stop her best friend, Michael O’Neal ( Scream VI ‘s Dermot Mulroney), from marrying sweet Kimmy Wallace (Cameron Diaz) even though they are seemingly perfect for each other.

Unlike most ’90s rom-coms, My Best Friend’s Wedding still holds up today, in part because it isn’t afraid to get a little nasty. Roberts does some pretty shady things, but her actions are somewhat justifiable. The movie is famous for its Chicago locations and Cameron Diaz karaoke scene, but the best sequence by far is the spontaneous sing-along to Dionne Warwick’s I Say A Little Prayer .

Now that the end of 2023 has arrived, how do you want to spend New Year's Eve? We've already put forth some comedies, thrillers, rom-coms, and sci-fi films that are appropriate for the last day of the year. Now, it's time to suggest three great dramas that you should watch on New Year's Eve.

Because many of 2023's best dramas are not currently available to stream, we went with three of 2022's best dramatic offerings: The Whale, To Leslie, and Thirteen Lives. There's a lot of heartache in our first two picks, but there's also a chance for redemption. As we enter 2024, remember that dramas aren't always about trauma and tragedy. These are also the stories that can lift us up.

For some people, a few fireworks at the end of the year is all they need for excitement. But as far as we're concerned, watching thrillers on New Year's Eve is a lot more fun. A great thriller can get blood pumping from the comfort of our homes. And if a movie ever gets too intense, we can always put it on pause.

Now that the end of 2023 is almost upon us, we've chosen three great thrillers that you should watch on New Year's Eve. Only one of these three movies actually takes place on New Year's Eve, but all three should be more than enough to give you a much-needed jolt as we head into 2024.

It’s close to New Year’s Eve and instead of getting dolled up and going to a flashy party, you have decided to stay in. There’s nothing wrong with that. Sometimes, the best way to ring in a new year is to relax at home in your pajamas with comfort food take-out, a blanket, a glass of champagne, and a good TV show.

You could tune into the many New Year’s Eve specials that are being televised. Is Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom coming to Netflix? (where to watch)

Posted: December 30, 2023 | Last updated: December 30, 2023

The highly anticipated sequel Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom recently made a splash in theaters worldwide, diving audiences back into the thrilling underwater realm alongside Jason Momoa's iconic portrayal of Aquaman. From epic battles to newfound responsibilities, the movie promises a tidal wave of action, emotion, and intrigue. The official synopsis, as per IMDb , reads:

"Black Manta seeks revenge on Aquaman for his father's death. Wielding the Black Trident's power, he becomes a formidable foe. To defend Atlantis, Aquaman forges an alliance with his imprisoned brother. They must protect the kingdom." IMDb

As fans ride the wave of excitement post-theatrical release, the burning question arises: will this aquatic adventure find its way onto Netflix's shores? With Netflix's history of housing DC treasures, speculation is rife about whether Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom will soon surface on the streaming giant's platform.

Join us as we navigate the depths of streaming possibilities and unveil where this submerged spectacle might be available for your viewing pleasure below!

Will Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom be availble on Netflix?

Sadly, for eager fans awaiting Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom's aquatic adventures on Netflix, it looks like a tide that won't turn. The anticipated sequel won't be diving into Netflix's library post-theatrical release.

But fear not! While it won't be swimming into Netflix streams, the film is set to surface elsewhere. In late January, fans can watch it through digital platforms like Amazon Prime Video or Google Play Movies by purchasing or renting the movie. And here's a streaming beacon: there's a glimmer of hope that it might make a splash on Max around February or March 2024, typically where Warner Bros. movies find their watery home.

So, while the Netflix ship may have sailed for Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom , there's still a sea of options to catch this underwater epic!

What DC movies are on Netflix?

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom may not be coming to Netflix anytime soon, but the streaming giant does have its fair share of DC flicks. For those looking to indulge in some dark comic book action, Netflix has these movies currently available to stream:

  • The Batman (2022)
  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
  • Birds of Prey (2020)
  • Black Adam (2022)
  • DC League of Super-Pets (2022)
  • Man of Steel (2013)
  • Shazam! (2019)
  • Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
  • Suicide Squad (2016)
  • The Suicide Squad (2021)

Whether you're up for some caped crusaders, antiheroes, or mighty gods, Netflix has your superhero cravings covered!

Will there be an Aquaman 3?

As of the moment, the seas remain murky regarding an official Aquaman 3 movie. The franchise's future hangs in the balance, despite tantalizing hints and teases from the director and star. Jason Momoa, the charismatic Aquaman himself, has openly shown his desire for a third installment. However, the verdict seems to rest beyond his trident's reach as no official confirmation has surfaced yet.

While the currents of uncertainty swirl, fans are holding onto hope for another thrilling aquatic adventure!

Where to Watch 'Fool Me Once': Where is the Harlan Coben Adaptation Streaming?

The mysterious drama stars Michelle Keagan, Richard Armitage, Dino Fetscher, Joanna Lumley, and Adeel Akhtar.

Quick Links

Is 'fool me once' premiering on tv, is 'fool me once' streaming online, can you watch 'fool me once' without netflix, watch the trailer for 'fool me once', what's the 'fool me once' episode schedule, other mystery shows you can watch right now on netflix.

A once happy marriage is set to be turned upside down with Fool Me Once - a new mystery drama series that sees a wife suspect hidden secrets from her supposedly late husband. Based on the acclaimed novel by Harlan Coben , Fool Me Once sees Maya Stern's ( Michelle Keegan ) once-normal life go entirely awry when her husband, Joe ( Richard Armitage ) , is mysteriously murdered. That profound sense of grief turns into utter confusion when Maya discovers an alive and well Joe on her daughter's nanny's cam. This causes Maya to embark on some detective work of her own to find out the truth about her husband's alleged death and who he really was.

It's a shocking mystery tale where every person in Maya's life is a potential suspect, and there's bound to be plenty of twists and turns along the way. If you're a murder-mystery fan reading this, then chances are you're leading an investigation of your own, that being where you can watch Maya's journey unfold. If that's true, we're happy to tell you that the case is about to be closed, as we have the answer for where you can watch Fool Me Once and more right down below.

Tuning into cable or live television to watch Fool Me Once will prove to be a dead end, as Fool Me Once will only be available via streaming rather than on television. Netflix has not announced any plans to release Fool Me Once on network television at this time.

Fool Me Once will be making its streaming home exclusively on Netflix, which is fitting given that the streamer already has a wealth of mystery content. Just earlier this year, Netflix became the home of another UK-based murder-mystery series, Bodies , which put a brilliant time-traveling spin on the genre . Netflix subscribers are also anxiously awaiting the return of another mystery series, The Watcher , which is set to return sometime in 2024.

Sign Up for Netflix

If you're not already subscribed to Netflix, there are currently three subscription plans to choose from, all three of which will give access to the streaming giant's entire catalog. For a detailed list of what each plan is, what it entails, and what it costs, look at the following table below:

As of now, the only way to watch Fool Me Once is to have a Standard with Ads subscription plan or higher to Netflix. Plans for a release on a different streamer, live TV, Blu-ray/DVD, or other format have not been announced by Netflix at this time.

The first trailer for Fool Me Once was r eleased by Netflix on December 7th, 2023 , introducing audiences everywhere to Harlan Coben's latest mystery tale. The trailer begins with a brief glimpse into Maya and Joe's happier times when they were a newly married couple, only for that to come crumbling down when Joe is reported to have been fatally shot. This results in an understandable period of depression for Maya, now a single mother to her young child. Maya is then shocked to discover that a man who looks remarkably like Joe has appeared on her daughter's nanny cam after he was thought to be dead. Maya tries to convince her friends and family of what she saw, but nobody believes her, not even her judgmental mother-in-law, Judith ( Joanna Lumley ). Realizing that she's more than likely on her own in solving this mystery, Maya decides to become an impromptu detective and discover Joe's true fate.

All eight episodes of Fool Me Once will be available to binge-watch on Netflix starting Monday, January 1st, 2024 . Netflix has not yet revealed the episode summaries for each episode at this time.

Bodies (2023): A dead body is a staple for any murder mystery series, but what if that same dead body appeared in four different time periods? That's what the hit mini-series Bodies aims to answer, as the mysterious figure of Mannix ( Stephen Graham ) guides four different detectives from four different points in time in solving this connected mystery. This includes Alfred Hillinghead ( Kyle Soller ) from the 1890s, Karl Whiteman ( Jacob Fortune-Lloyd ) from the 1940s, Shahara Hasan ( Amaka Okafor ) from the 2020s, and Iris Maplewood ( Shira Haas ) from the 2050s. Bodies is currently available to stream on Netflix.

The Watcher (2022-): Loosely based on a true story, The Watcher tells how an average suburban couple's lives turn into a nightmare when they buy the wrong house. When Dean ( Bobby Cannavale ) and Nora Brannock ( Naomi Watts ) purchased a home in suburban New York, they sought a quiet home away from the big city. Little did they know that they would become the targets of a serial stalker known only as 'The Watcher,' whose identity could be any one of their friends or neighbors. Season 1 of The Watcher is streaming now on Netflix.

Lupin (2021-): Heavily inspired by the gentleman thief literary character Arsène Lupin, Lupin is a gripping new spin on master thievery with a modern, mystery twist. Following the exploits of Assane Diop ( Omar Sy ), this new lead character follows in Lupin's footsteps as a master thief with a heart of gold. Though he may have sticky fingers, Diop's true prize is preserving the legacy and memory of his unfairly scorned father. The first three parts of Lupin are streaming now on Netflix.
