The 92 appears, even from afar, like a yacht of steel—which it is. Mazu says the material choice, typically reserved for yachts over 200 feet, reflects its decision to build ever-larger superyachts.

In an even more interesting twist, Mazu says the 92 DS is the world’s first steel-hulled vessel with Volvo IPS propulsion—typically found on much smaller, fiberglass motoryachts. Mazu actually designed its hull around triple Volvo Penta IPS 1050s, each rated to 800 horses, before they gained approval from Volvo.

The 92 has a top speed of 18 knots with a leggy cruising range of 1,170 nautical miles—enough to run from, say, New York City to Miami without refueling.

What becomes clear on our interior walkaround is that all accommodations make good use of the 22-foot beam. The main-deck master spans the width of the boat and includes an en suite and walk-in closet. The lower deck sleeps six more guests in two single cabins and a second full-beam VIP stateroom.

The open lower salon is also an interesting layout design, reminding me of some of the Bluegame models that made waves in the last year or two. The lower salon, with a large L-shaped settee to starboard and wetbar to port, is separated from the yacht’s beach club by a sliding glass door. But really this is all one space.

It’s a smart design, creating a sea-level entertainment area with access to water and the sun, with a place to get out of the elements as well. It’s also completely private from the rest of the boat, which extends the capacity for entertaining, particularly for larger, multiple-generation families.

Mazu has effectively created two safe spaces: The first for a family’s baby boomers to enjoy their time together, and the second for the millennials to do the same.

Another notable exterior feature is the flybridge, which feels enormous thanks to its full beam. The superstructure here is carbon fiber for weight savings and a lower center of gravity. The lounges and wetbar are shaded by a hardtop with slits that open electrically to control sunshine or rain. It’s an excellent place to enjoy the elevated views that Mazu can now offer.

First look: inside Waterlily, the first 28m Mazu 92 DS model

Red Yacht Design has offered a first look inside the 28.5-metre Waterlily – the first unit in Mazu Yachts ' 92 DS series and a BOAT International Design & Innovation Award finalist.

Waterlily marks Mazu’s first foray into steel construction and is the entry-level edition of a new semi-displacement series, which will soon be followed by a 112 DS and 132 DS model.

Red Yacht Design is responsible for both the exterior and interior of the new model, whose superstructure is constructed from carbon composite to reduce weight and keep the centre of gravity as low as possible. 

Speaking previously about the new model, Mazu founder and designer Halit Yukay said: "I think we’ve created something amazing that will shake up the marketplace. The interior volumes and full-height windows make you feel like you’re on a yacht that is at least 10 metres longer."

Inside, accommodation is for a total of eight guests including a full-beam owner’s suite located in the widebody section of the main deck forward, two single cabins forward and a full-beam VIP. In an "unusual" move for a yacht of this size, the crew also have their own service stairs. Interiors are airy and light, complemented by a neutral colour palette with pops of pastel green.

In terms of amenities, the 160GT yacht is home to a large swim platform that is substantial enough to stow a tender or Jet Ski while underway. When moored or at anchor, this platform can be extended thanks to fold-down bulwarks. Instead of a traditional transom, glass sliding transom doors lead into a beach club area, complete with a bar.

The Mazu 92 DS is the first of the builder's steel hull series to integrate an IPS propulsion system and according to the yard, is the "first brand in the world to achieve this" with a triple engine system of Volvo Penta IPS 1050, each delivering 800HP.

This follows the reveal of Mazu Yachts' 40.2-metre flagship, the 132 DS. Highlights include a "panoramic" owner's terrace, dip pool and extensive flybridge.

After winning over an international clientele for its fast planing dayboats built of lightweight carbon composites, Mazu Yachts in Turkey has announced its entry into steel construction with the 92 DS, the first of a new semi-displacement series that will be followed by a 112 DS and 132 DS  model. 

“In my professional opinion, for reasons of safety, comfort and resale value, a displacement hull should be built of steel or aluminium,” says Halit Yukay, brand founder and head designer. “As with our carbon composite models, we wanted to offer the market something new, and if you look at the exterior lines, I think you’ll agree the 92 DS is certainly different!”

The steel keel of the first semi-custom 92 DS has been laid, but Mazu is drawing on its experience of working in carbon composite for the superstructure to keep the weight down and the centre of gravity low. 

The yacht will be powered by triple Volvo Penta IPS 1050 drives for a top speed of  22 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots. This is the first time IPS propulsion has been installed on a steel-hulled yacht, requiring close collaboration with Volvo Penta and Profjord in Sweden for the engineering and naval architecture.

The Crossover-style exterior profile by Red Yacht Design features a raised pilothouse positioned forward in order to maximise the interior volumes. The dramatic vertical bow adds visual impact and increases the waterline length. The two-tone hull design introduces a striking new aesthetic.

The owner’s suite in Red Yacht Design vision is located in the widebody section of the main deck forward with a bathroom in the bow. The walk-around section of the superstructure houses the main salon illuminated by full-height windows and the galley. There is al fresco dining for a full complement of 8 guests and sun loungers on the open aft deck. 

Stairs on both sides lead down to a very large swim platform with room for stowing a tender and Jet Ski while under way. The bulwarks fold down on either side to increase the platform area.

Glass sliding transom doors lead into a relaxing beach club area with bar that can be arranged according to client preference (there is also interior access from the main salon). Forward are two twin-single guest cabins and a full-beam VIP suite.

There are two crew cabins with shared bathroom in the bow. Unusally for the size of yacht, the crew have their own service stairs.  

There is more lounging space, as well as dining facilities and the exterior helm station shaded by the hardtop on the fly deck. 

The first 92 DS is due for delivery to her Turkish owner in the summer 2022.

This is the Mazu 92 DS, a 92-foot yacht designed in Turkey.

She’s a beauty, and more importantly, she’s got a unique feature.

The 92 DS’ design is full of unusual and quirky details – something we are seeing increasingly in yacht concepts from this Star-Wars inspired design to this ‘floating city that’s shaped like a turtle .

For example, it features an unusually imposing profile due to its vertical windshield, which is a feature that’s usually reserved for commercial vessels, rather than yachts.

More to the point, it’s made almost entirely out of steel.

This, for a yacht of this size, is unprecedented because, nine times out of ten, yachts made of steel are larger.

On the flipside, however, we’ve seen this happen before in recent times, with various brands trying out different materials for brand new vessels.

Not long ago, BMW unveiled a yacht that’s actually made of glass.

The steel hull was designed around a trio of 800-horsepower Volvo engines.

So this is a yacht that’s built like a superyacht, but runs like a supercar.

92 DS has a top speed of 18 knots, and a range of 1,170 nautical miles.

The main deck offers a massive master suite with a walk-in closet.

Meanwhile, the lower deck has accommodation for up to six guests.

The beach club is also special, because it is designed to be completely private from the rest of the boat.

Last but definitely not least, the flybridge, which is made of carbon fiber, is large enough to accommodate lounges with a wetbar.

It even has a hardtop that can be opened electrically.

Like a ‘convertible’ yacht.

And the price?

The Mazu 92 DS isn’t cheap, coming in at €8.5 million – or $9.27 million.

Mind you, it must be said that in the crazy world of yachting, $9 million for a 92-foot yacht isn’t too bad.

Jeff Bezos’ second yacht , for example, costs nearly ten times as much even though it is ‘only’ three times larger.
