The world’s first ever

A Feadship full of premiers, including being the world’s first ever hybrid superyacht and the first to be entirely metallic painted. Savannah’s interior design and exterior styling are a first too: being new to yacht design, the offices of CG Design took the design brief to a whole new level, creating an ensemble of unrivalled beauty.

Pure custom creation

After winning no less than five of the most prestigious yachting awards in the year following her launch, it needs no further explanation: Savannah is one of a kind.  The main aft deck starts from the water, with succession of steps and platforms leading to a spacious beach 11 club and the living areas. 

The 10-metre pool displays a colourful glass mosaic by contemporary artist Cecily Brown .

Perfect Craftsmanship

Savannah is the first superyacht to be entirely metallic painted with the exception of the mast domes. Feadship developed a special spray nozzle technique to attain the all- metallic look which had to be achieved in one sweep to avoid any colour discrepancy. The outside staircases are jet black and the steps covered in teak.

Savannah is the first superyacht to feature an eco-friendly blend of single diesel engine, three gensets, batteries, propeller, azimuting thruster and a streamlined hull shape. Offering fuel economies of thirty per cent, the pioneering electro-mechanical propulsion platform marries Feadship’s past experience and forward thinking approach within a pure custom creation.

Inspired by the 2010 Feadship Future Concept Breathe , Savannah is a demonstration of the cost-effective and cleaner mode of propulsion that can be achieved within an entirely bespoke superyacht. 

The exterior profile includes a ‘floating superstructure’. The glass and composite panels appear to float thanks to complex visual trickery involving polished stainless steel strips, aluminium supports and teak. The stainless steel doors form part of the yacht’s continuous line and also appear to be floating as part of an immensely complicated design feature.

The 12.5 metre beam, which in finished photographs looks proportionate, perhaps even slim from some angles, was such a tight fit through the Dutch locks and bridges on the vessel’s way to sea trials that she was wrapped in protective film and sheets of plywood over the side because there wasn’t room for fenders. Savannah is a very big girl in a deceptively slender package.

All the salons open directly toward the outside and are part of the outdoor decks, separated by large sliding doors, which are open most of the time to benefit the view and breeze.

There is a large variety of spaces for wellness, physical exercise and entertainment: the Nemo room, a bow observation lounge, a double-volume video wall installation, a wellness area, an exercise room, and a library.

Staterooms feature a master, a VIP with fold out balcony, and four large guest suites.

Each cabin and lounge has been designed to maximise the visual and human experience, the awe-inspiring underwater lounge and master suite, with its wall of glass and vast oval skylight, being two notable moments in this yacht’s interior story.

Interior Design & Engineering

The interior of the SAVANNAH motor yacht is flooded with light thanks to her peerless use of wall glass that wraps around her decks. She’s home to the first-ever Nemo lounge: a partially submerged room with glass walls that allow guests to literally see under the waterline.

You get a real sense of space when you head inside the main deck of the SAVANNAH yacht. The main salon is secured by sliding curved-glass doors and feels like an extension of the aft deck. It leads to a second salon, with a further salon and dining area on the owner’s deck above.

With just 12 guests accommodated across her 83.5m, you can expect to sleep in spacious rooms. The upper deck is home to a luxurious, light-flooded owner’s suite with a wall of glass and a large skylight, plus a separate office, a marble en suite, and a large seating area outside. Each of the other cabins—a VIP, two doubles and two convertibles—boast large windows to increase the feeling of space and maximise your connection with the ocean.

Not to be overlooked is her impeccable eco-credentials. As Feadship’s first-ever hybrid superyacht, the trailblazing SAVANNAH combines an efficient hull design with impressive electric-diesel performance for greener—and quieter—cruising.

Yacht facilities & Entertainment

An overwhelming number of features are waiting for you on the SAVANNAH yacht. On a practical level, amenities like her touch-and-go helipad and elevator serving four decks make her easily accessible.

Other facilities, like her 9m swimming pool, full beach club, gym, spa and Hammam, are particularly attractive during a charter. You could even make use of the DJ station and throw your own party or indulge in treatments from the onboard masseuse and beautician.

Her comprehensive modern art collection will also keep you transfixed. For example, the double-height video monitors that line the passage between the two main deck salons can be programmed to display static or flowing abstract images

Toys and Crew

You’ll be outnumbered during your SAVANNAH yacht charter, with a crew of 24 on board.

When you’re ready to get on the water, there’s a variety of toys to choose from. Plunge into the blue with the diving board or giant slide, race around on the range of personal watercraft, and get the adrenaline up with the inflatable towables.

Sports fans will enjoy the basketball court on this luxury superyacht, which also has a golf driving range and other sports goods like footballs, frisbees, volleyball nets, and more.

You can take the adventure below the surface with extensive snorkeling equipment and scuba diving gear. And if you want to head back to shore, you can chuck the Roubaix bikes into one of the two tenders and zip across.

Charter yacht of the week: 83m Feadship Savannah

Each week we place a spotlight on one of the world’s finest superyachts for charter. This week, BOAT takes a closer look at the 83.5-metre Savannah , a yacht beyond her time that continues to shine almost a decade later…

With a striking metallic hull and contemporary profile, the 83.5-metre Feadship Savannah certainly isn’t a yacht that flies under the radar. Delivered in 2015, she is a project that now almost ten years later, still looks futuristic and one of the most remarkable superyachts available for charter . Quite simply, this striking superyacht remains the ultimate head-turner which is why we want to take a closer look and make her the latest Charter Yacht of the Week…

Key Features

Following her completion, Savannah quite rightly swept the boards at the 2016 World Superyacht Awards , thanks to her cosmic metallic profile, elegant design and masterful engineering. In fact, her delivery marked something of a turning point for the industry as she was one of the fleet’s first truly "eco-conscious" superyachts to hit the water thanks to her first-of-its-kind hybrid power plant.

Designed inside and out by Cristina Gherardi Benardeau and Marcello Bozzarelli, of the Parisian design house CG Design , Savannah is a striking accomplishment on the design front. As guests board, they are presented with a vast saloon on the main deck, which exists as an open space. The saloon is on the same level as the nine-metre pool, which melds into the space through sliding curved-glass weathertight doors open and stacked invisibly out of the way. An integral feature of the overall design, the pool was created with input from artist Cecily Brown, as is covered in various blue and green glass tiles to create an abstract mosaic painting from above.

A psychedelic video wall also lines the passage between the two saloons on the main deck and there is a catwalk connecting the saloon and dining area of the owner’s deck.

Arguably the most famous element of Savannah – aside from her exterior profile – is the Nemo Lounge. Located aft, the semi-submerged sheet of glazing in the hull provides a view that peers under the surface of the sea. Complete with two levels of sofas, the space can also be converted into a cinema, fitted with a drop-down screen that covers the glass wall. Positioned aft, it is in one of the most stable parts of the yacht with stadium-style seating for spotting marine life above and below the waves. Its considered something of a bonus room where one can relax before the hypnotic marine life frolicking before you. 

Stainless steel is used bountifully throughout the yacht, in the form of polished columns and furniture. But the metallic theme continues in the painted surfaces too as Savannah is the first superyacht to be given a complete metallic finish (even the undersides of the exterior decks are painted Sea Foam metallic green).

Accommodation on board is for 12 guests across six cabins, including a VIP, two doubles and two convertible cabins making up the five guest cabins forward on the main deck. In each of the guest cabins, the walls and bedheads are gently curved at the edges, creating glamorous cocoons with wool and silk carpets, velvet upholstered bed frames and silk floor-length curtains heightening the effect.

But it’s the huge master suite that is the true stand out feature with an enormous skylight, a separate dressing room and a spa-like bathroom. The space leads out to a large outdoor lounge, an office, a private saloon and dining area and a service pantry.

Why is Savannah the perfect charter yacht?

Being one of the most expensive superyachts available to charter , she naturally sits at the very top of the market. The gleaming metallic beauty is also a hive of activity, with a spa, a gym and beauty room. For entertaining on board, head up to the private sun deck with its own DJ station and BBQ grill. Art buffs will also enjoy the impressive collection of modern works on board.

There isn’t anything that Savannah couldn’t offer you. For family charters, not only does she have a large amount of space, but a countless list of toys, fit for everyone. In addition to her four tenders, guests will find two Yamaha stand-up Jet Skis, two Seadoo Spark Jet Skis, two Jet Surfs, four sea bobs, a Laser sailing dinghy, four mountain bikes, an inflatable slide, and the list goes on.

If it’s shore-based activities you’re after, pop the Roubaix bikes into one of the two tenders and zip across to some challenging terrain.

With a big focus on wellness, guests can smash out an adrenaline-pumping workout in Savannah's fully-equipped gym before heading to the spa to relax in the hammam and enjoy a massage or beauty treatment, courtesy of the onboard masseuse and beautician.

What’s special about Savannah ?

To this day, Savannah has upheld a gleaming reputation as one of the finest superyachts on the water. Not only is this down to design, but exceptional build quality, thanks to Feadship and pioneering technology.

She features a first-of-its-kind hybrid propulsion system, blending a main diesel engine, three gensets, a megawatt of storage batteries and an azimuthing thruster. The technology can be linked back to Japanese passenger ships, but this is the first in yachting circles. The result is a significant reduction in emissions and "fuel savings of some 30 per cent" at the time of launch, according to Feadship CEO Henk de Vries. Despite these economic factors, she can achieve speeds of up to 17 knots.

A true and undeniable head-turner, Savannah is nothing short of iconic and capable of delivering unforgettable charters that only very few yachts could compare to.

The SV Zingara

Zingara exemplifies Morgan's reputation of building strong and comfortable yachts. Weighing 9 tons, she is a Morgan 384 designed by naval architect Ted Brewer. This 38 footer is a handsome boat in an understated way and still has a contemporary look. The sheer-line is relatively subtle, the bow rake is straight with a moderate overhang, and the counter stern has a slightly reversed transom. Captain Steve Horton

A sailor for over 45 years, Steve worked as a seasonal sailing instructor and delivery captain as time allowed during his tenure as a high school teacher and administrator. He has been a USCG licensed captain (100 Ton Master) and sailing instructor since 1983 and has also been certified by US Sailing. Steve has logged thousands of miles completing private yacht deliveries between the Caribbean and the U.S. east coast. He bought "Zingara",  a classic Morgan 384 in 2006 and opened Compass Sailing, LLC in 2008 which provides day charters in the Savannah, Ga. area. At night, you can catch him playing rhythm guitar with the Cicada Brothers in some of the local watering holes.  912-441-3265
