So, who owns that mega yacht docked at Wrightsville Beach?

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - If you haven’t seen it, chances are you’ve heard about it. Skyfall, one of the largest yachts to ever cruise into Wrightsville Beach is the talk of the town.

So, who owns that huge yacht? His name is Roy Carroll.

Carroll, who lives in Greensboro, is the owner of The Carroll Companies, a real estate development firm valued at about $3 billion. He’s no stranger to the Wilmington area. Carroll is the developer of The Avenue , the planned $250 million project located on Military Cutoff Rd. The upscale development will feature luxury living, high-end shops, restaurants and a Westin Hotel. Construction was put on hold because of the pandemic, but is expected to begin this year.

While Skyfall is a luxury charter yacht, Carroll brought it to the Wrightsville Beach Marina for a couple weeks for personal use.

“Skyfall is entertaining friends and family for a couple of weeks prior to departing to the Mediterranean,” Carroll says. “Skyfall will take two and a half to three weeks to reach her destination of Croatia.”

The 191-foot long yacht is booked for charters in the Mediterranean through September. Clearly, it’s going to folks with lots of money. The going rate for a week on Skyfall is $400,000 plus approximately another $100,000 for fuel dockage and tips, according to Cameron Sieradzan, the media director for The Carroll Companies.

Yes, Skyfall is named after the 2012 James Bond movie. The previous owner reportedly paid a pretty penny to use the name. When Carroll purchased the yacht, the name went with it.

“We thought about renaming the yacht, but the name has stuck,” Carroll says. “Plus, we already have the yacht’s theme song.”

Skyfall has 15 crew members and can accommodate up to 14 guests. The yacht features a wine cellar, two hot tubs, a masseuse, two chefs and a helipad that converts to a basketball court.

Carroll also owns Rhino, a 154-foot yacht that will arrive in Wrightsville Beach in a few weeks before heading to New England for the summer.

Skyfall will leave Wrightsville Beach on June 8.

What options do you offer?

We offer 2, 4, 6 and 8 hour cruises/charters as well as local overnight charters, destination overnight charters, and overnight stays at our dock which is conveniently located in walking distance to the bars and restaurants downtown. 

Where can I view pricing?

Most of our prices can be found by clicking this link , with the exception of our overnight bookings. We offer overnight bookings at the dock and on charter, and both of those options we quote out depending on your itinerary. Please email us through the contact form on the site or at [email protected] to learn more.

What itineraries can we do?

We have a number of itineraries available for you to choose from, and we will recommend some to you depending on the time and year and day which your cruise is, the predicted weather, and how long you book the yacht for. Some sample itineraries are a sunset cruise, a yacht party next to a nearby private island, a day trip to Bald Head Island, a yacht party at Masonboro Inlet, a cruise along Wrightsville Beach, or multiple day trips to Myrtle Beach, Ocracoke, Charleston and beyond.

​What do I need to bring?

Guests should bring any alcohol or food they'd like to eat, we should have just about everything else like all necessary safety equipment, the crew, etc. Soft drinks, water and ice are included and already onboard.  

When should I arrive?

​We recommend arriving about 15 minutes prior to your departure time so that you can get settled and receive your safety briefing before we depart.

What if I have more than 13 people?

While the Coast Guard does not allow us to carry more than 13 guests at sea, we absolutely can have a dock party with more than 13 guests. While we won't be able to leave the dock, you can still party the night away on a yacht!

What's Included?

All bookings include fuel, docking fees, the cost of the captain, his mate, and full use of the yacht and its water toys which include 2 kayaks, 2 paddle boards, a floating dock, music throughout the boat and free internet, YoutubeTV and Netflix. If you hire the chef or hostess, their services and food will be included as well.

What's NOT Included?

The price online does NOT include tax, gratuity,  or alcohol. Food is not included unless you hire the chef. Lastly, we do not have any decorations onboard so please bring any decorations you wish to put up depending on your occasion.

Can we choose the time of our charter or cruise?  

Yes, absolutely! Any time that you want to leave and return, we can make that happen!

​What's NOT allowed?

While we want you to have the most amazing time aboard our beautiful yacht, a few things are strictly forbidden such as: Unsupervised Dock parties with more than the approved number of persons, sleeping more than 7 people onboard overnight, smoking, drugs, fireworks and flushing anything besides toilet paper down the toilets. 

​Where do I park and how much is it?

Complimentary parking is included and you will park in the Port City Marina parking. If there is a parking attendant there, let them know that you're there for a Carolina Yacht Charters cruise.  

Are children and kids allowed?

While children and kids are allowed, please know that boats do present a safety risk to our kiddos. They must always wear a live preserver and should never be allowed outside without direct adult supervision.

Captain: George Garifalou George was born in Athens. He graduated from the Hellenic Navy Academy in 2003 and started his professional career as a Hellenic Navy Officer. After 20 years of successful professional career in the Greek Navy he retired at the rank of Captain and began his career in commercial yachting. George has captained numerous boats up to 70 meters. With his vast navigation, engineering experience and extensive knowledge of the Greek waters he makes sure that guests will receive the highest level of service while cruising safely to some of the most beautiful bays and amazing islands in the world. George speaks Greek & English. Chef: Andreas Polyrakis Andreas was born in Chania, Crete. After successfully graduating from the school of tourism professions (chef) in Heraklion, Crete, he followed a 20-year career as a chef in European, Italian, Mexican, Asian, Mediterranean and Greek cuisine in restaurants such as: Nice & Easy Asteras Vouliagmeni, Golf Club Glyfada Athens and Ark (Chef Baxevani´s team) in Glyfada which have been awarded as the best restaurant of traditional Greek cuisine in Greece. His second love for the sea led him to yachting. For the second season Andreas is on the ´MY WAY´ team fulfilling this dream of his, providing guests with his exceptional and amazing cooking. Andreas speaks Greek & English. Stewardess: Zoe Vaila Zoe was born in Athens. After her studies in Business Administration started her professional studies in classical ballet, modern dance, jazz, latin in the National School of Dance. After a successful carrier as a classic ballet dancer and teacher (P. Metaxopoulos Dance School, D. Tsoukala Dance School), her love for the sea led her to yachting industry. She has 3 years of professional yachting experience as a solo stewardess. Her duties include housekeeping, interior cleaning, bar tendering and guest service. Zoe is a hard - working organizer, enjoys challenges and takes pride in providing excellent service to those onboard. Zoe speaks Greek & English. Deckhand: Kostas Kostas was born in Tajikistan and moved permanently to Greece in 1992, because of his Greek father. Absolutely beautiful boat for one, but Kraig made the trip so much better as we sat on the flybridge and had the captain give us a great tour, pointing out the landscape, waterways and beautiful homes in the area! 10/10 will rebook in the future! Don’t miss out on this exquisite experience!

Captain Kraig is the BEST! He gave us a lovely guided tour, pointing out names of islands, housing communities(with his real estate background, he knows a lot!), best restaurants. He was very mellow, has a great personality. We highly recommend him for cruising on an incredible boat for any occasion.

Captain Kraig is the consummate professional. From my initial inquiry, I knew that we would have an amazing experience. I was impressed by Kraig’s responsiveness and willingness to answer all of my questions. It was without a doubt that Kraig wanted to make sure that the excursion was tailored to our needs. Upon arrival at the marina, Kraig met us, and he was so pleasant, personable, and patient. He gave us a tour of the boat and made sure we were all comfortable (group age range: 6-80). The littles were able to steer the boat, put their toes in the water, and enjoy the view from the bow. The elders enjoyed engaging with Captain Kraig. My husband and I were so thrilled and agreed that we should have booked a day trip. Going out with Captain Kraig was such a memorable experience. You will love every moment aboard the Memory Maker. Whether you are traveling down the intercoastal and just passing through or launching for a day adventuring on Masonboro Island, Wilmington’s marinas are some of the best in the country.

In Wilmington you will find marinas with restaurants, fuel, ice and supplies, wet slips and dry storage, there is absolutely something for every boater. Now with that said, the demand for slips and dockage is higher than the supply, so unless you have an inside connection you are most likely going to need to add yourself to a waiting list.

This article outlines the top 11 marinas and yacht clubs in the Wilmington area.

1. Bradley Creek Marina

Bradley Creek Marina was founded in 1964 and a is a private marina very close to Wrightsville Beach, located next to Airlie Gardens. If you find yourself being one of the lucky ones to find a slip in this marina you will benefit from location, being only a mile or so from Wrightsville and Masonboro Island. This marina specializes in wet slips and accommodates vessels from 17 feet all the way up to 65 feet.

2. Dockside Marina

Dockside Marina has been a Wilmington tradition for over 30 years. It’s location is one of the most scenic in the city, located off of famous Airlie Road next to the Wrightsville Beach draw bridge. The Marina features a number of exclusive wet slips and the club house is a restaurant and bar with outdoor and roof seating. Dockside Marina is a great place to tie up if you are lucky and its also a great place to relax, enjoy a drink and some tasty local seafood after a day out on the ocean.

3. Creekside Yacht Club

Creekside Yacht Club is one of the best members only yacht clubs in the Wilmington area. With its close proximity to Wrightsville Beach and Masonboro Island, the club is located on Bradley Creek right off Oleander Dr. The facility provides over 6 acres of marine storage for boats 18 feet all the way to 30 feet. You can also find a full ships store, marine detailing and repair services, a member lounge, bath house, and over 1,000 feet of floating dock with fuel. Slips are very hard to come by, make sure you reach out to get on the list or find out about purchasing one.

4. Wilmington Marine Center

Wilmington Marine Center is a sheltered marina located very close to Wilmington’s Downtown River District . The Marina is set up to handle very large boats up to 100 feet and is in an enclosed basin along the Cape Fear River. Wilmington Marine Center offers both wet and dry slips as well as a full service boat yard, fuel dock and 75 ton lift. The service center is equipped for complete diesel, gas and outboard service.

5. Masonboro Yacht Club

Masonboro Yacht Club is a members only marina situated just off the Intracostal Waterway about half way between Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach . This is definitely one of the quietest and homey marinas in in the area. The yacht club sits in a residential neighborhood making it private and ideal for family boating. Masonboro Yacht Club offers wet slips and dry storage for boat up to 40 feet. After a long day of sailing or boating go back and hang at the club house, meet friends and have a drink.

6. Cape Fear Marina

Cape Fear Marina is a quiet mooring located upriver from downtown Wilmington. The marina is set up to accommodate a large variety of vessels including pleasure, commercial and luxury craft, large sailboats and motor yachts. Cape Fear Marina is members only and specializes in boat slip rentals in a gated, secure dock setting that includes amenities such as a bathhouse, showers, and an on-site laundry facility. The marina is designed for large vessels and a minimum of 40ft is required and a maximum of 100ft.

7. Bridge Tender Marina

The Bridge Tender Marina is a classic local marina, located on Airlie Road right before the drawbridge to Wrightsville Beach . The marina is in a prime to location to access the beach and is within a short walk to great restaurants and shops. The Bridge Tender is set up to accomadate vessels of all sizes, with fuel, pump out and pressure washing services, the marina is a perfect pit stop when traveling the Intracoastal Waterway. The Bridge Tender Marina is right next to the Bridge Tender Restaurant and Dockside Marina .

8. Inlet Watch Yacht Club

Inlet Watch Yacht Club is considered the largest marina in North Carolina. Located in a prime location close to Carolina Beach , the marina is stacked with amenities and is set up to handle vessels of all sizes. Dry slips are set up for boats that range from 35ft all the way to up 45ft.

9. Seapath Yacht Club

Seapath Yacht Club is centrally located in Wrightsville Beach just off the intracoastal waterway. The marina has nearly 200 wet slips and floating docks. Seapath is also a living community with luxury condos complete with the marina and a boathouse for entertaining.

The marina is set up for transient vessels as well as locals and provides slips that range in size from 22ft to 65ft. Boat slips at Seapath are privately owned and are available for purchase from existing owners as they come available.

10. Carolina Beach Yacht Club and Marina

Carolina Beach Yacht Club and Marina is a full service marina situated on the north end of Carolina Beach just off the intracoastal waterway. Carolina Beach Yacht Club and Marina is a great launching point for a day on the water. With nearly 70 wet slips, the marina can accommodate vessels of all types and sizes offering both long term leases and docking for those traveling down the intracoastal. What makes this marina great is its amenities and it’s daily boat rental program that makes rentals available for both full-day and half-day boating adventures. Carolina Beach Yacht Club has a number of amenities including a fuel dock with both diesel and gasoline, a holding tank pump out station, fishing line recycling, a clubhouse with showers, laundry facility, ship store with general supplies, ice, food and drinks, wireless internet and a dog park.

11. Marsh Creek at Scotts Hill Marina

Marsh Creek at Scotts Hill Marina is located about 6 miles north of Wrightsville Beach just off the intracoastal waterway in Wilmington. The private marina offers 40 wet slips and 350 dry storage slips for vessels that range from 13ft all the way to 35ft. You find this marina to be quiet and an easy launch point with a ton of amenities including a fuel dock with gasoline, transient public dock for short term mooring, a convenience store with food, ice and snacks and even a restaurant that serves great sea food and refreshing drinks.

My Way is built with a aluminium hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. Powered by twin MTU (12V 396TE94) 12-cylinder 2,300hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 23 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 31 knots. Her water tanks store around 5,000 Litres of fresh water.
