Does Jeff Bezos's New Yacht Feature a Sculpture of Lauren Sánchez?
The world's largest sailing yacht appears to have a figurehead that resembles Sánchez.
The yacht, which is named "Koru" and reportedly cost around $500 million, features a wooden figurehead of a woman that seems to be based on Sánchez. In addition, the sculpture is wearing the symbol for Koru, which is Māori for "loop or coil" and represents creation.
Per the Encyclopedia of New Zealand , "The koru, which is often used in Māori art as a symbol of creation, is based on the shape of an unfurling fern frond. Its circular shape conveys the idea of perpetual movement, and its inward coil suggests a return to the point of origin. The koru therefore symbolises the way in which life both changes and stays the same."
Bezos has previously posted about the symbol of koru, including a photo in his New Year's Day post in 2022, where he wrote, "the new year is also a great time to take stock and focus on personal growth, renewal, rebirth, and paying careful attention to each moment of your life. The good and the bad. All of it. Celebrate and grow." You can scroll to the last slide in here:
Bezos and Sánchez have been spotted this week on the three-mast yacht off the coast of Spain. At 417 feet, it is the largest sailing yacht in the world, and it is trailed by a 246-foot support vessel called the Abeona.
Bezos and his first wife, MacKenzie Bezos , divorced in April 2019 , and he has been publicly dating Sánchez since that same year.

Jeff Bezos puts sculpture that looks like his girlfriend on $500m superyacht
Amazon founder and Lauren Sánchez spotted sailing around Mallorca in the vessel
Jeff Bezos, the founder and former chief executive of Amazon , has had a wooden sculpture in the likeness of his girlfriend Lauren Sánchez erected on the prow of his $500 million (£401.7 million) superyacht.
The couple were spotted sailing in the vessel, named Koru, around the Spanish island Mallorca last Monday.
The sculpture is wearing a necklace of the symbol for Koru, which is Māori for loop or coil, and is based on the spiral shape of an unfurling silver fern frond.
Koru symbolises new beginnings and a new phase of life, positive change, personal growth, and hope for the future - a highly important symbol of Māori traditions.
'Man of my dreams'
Mr Bezos, who Forbes currently is ranked as the world’s third-richest man with a net worth of $141 billion, posted a photo of Koru on Instagram on New Year's Day in a slideshow of pictures from his disco party.
“The new year is also a great time to take stock and focus on personal growth, renewal, rebirth, and paying careful attention to each moment of your life,” he wrote. “The good and the bad. All of it. Celebrate and grow.”
The yacht - believed to be the largest sailing yacht in the world - features three huge masts, and several decks, including one with a swimming pool, according to Boat International.
Mr Bezos and Ms Sánchez, 53, went public with their relationship in 2019 after he announced his divorce from MacKenzie, his wife of 25 years.
In January, the former Good Day LA co-host wished her billionaire boyfriend a happy 59th birthday with a tribute on Instagram.
“Happy birthday to the man of my dreams, who lights up my world with his laughter and kind heart. You have shown me that no great love is not bravely fought for,” she wrote.
“I am so grateful for the memories we have made and the adventures yet to come.”
Earlier this month, the pair were spotted together at the Formula One Miami Grand Prix.
Last Friday, Nasa announced it had chosen Blue Origin, a space company founded by Mr Bezos, to build a second lunar lander.
Blue Origin's lander was selected for the Artemis 5 mission, currently scheduled to take place in 2029. The company will first have to demonstrate it can safely land on the Moon without a crew.

Jeff Bezos' $500M yacht showcases Lauren Sánchez sculpture
Jeff Bezos seemingly added a sculpture of Lauren Sánchez to the front of his $500 million yacht. He must really love her.
Burtland Dixon
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has added a unique touch to his extravagant $500 million yacht, named Koru. The 59-year-old billionaire has commissioned a wooden sculpture in the likeness of his girlfriend, Lauren Sánchez, to adorn the prow of the vessel. The sculpture, spotted during their recent sail around the Spanish island Mallorca, features Sánchez wearing the symbol for Koru—a Māori term meaning loop or coil—as a necklace. The symbol represents new beginnings, positive change , and personal growth, People shares.

While Bezos has not provided any official comment on the sculpture, its resemblance to Sánchez is evident. The expressive display of affection showcases Bezos' devotion in a rather unconventional way. The wooden artwork reflects the couple's connection to the symbol of Koru, which holds special significance to them.
In addition to the Sánchez-inspired sculpture, Bezos' yacht boasts luxurious amenities such as an on-deck pool. The vessel also includes a smaller dinghy, known as a “pet yacht,” which serves as a helipad and storage for various recreational items. This smaller yacht follows Koru and provides added convenience for the couple's excursions.

The construction of Koru has been underway for several years, and its recent appearance off the coast of Mallorca marks its inaugural sail. Bezos and Sánchez were photographed enjoying their time onboard, embracing the joys of their patient wait for completion.
The addition of the Lauren Sánchez sculpture further enhances the yacht's grandeur, symbolizing a new phase of life and the hope for a bright future. While Bezos remains tight-lipped about the artistic portrayal, the sculpture is a testament to the couple's shared journey and their appreciation for Māori traditions.

Did Jeff Bezos Put His Girlfriend on the Bow of His Superyacht?
Jeff Bezos’s 417-foot, $500 million new superyacht has finally taken to the seas . Bezos and girlfriend Lauren Sánchez were photographed this week enjoying the boat, the Koru , off the coast of Spain: They tanned and pointed at things; they removed their white cover-ups and then put their white coverups back on.
The boat, a schooner (a “refreshing” choice among yacht traditionalists, per the New York Times ), also features a striking figurehead on its bow. It has long hair and breasts. A glimpse of a hoop earring. No feet. Is it Sánchez?
People is bullish : “Jeff Bezos’ $500 Million Yacht Has a Sculpture of Lauren Sánchez — With a Hidden Reference to ‘New Beginnings.’”
TMZ errs speculative: “Superyacht’s Figurehead … WOODEN REPLICA OF LAUREN?!?”
Even the Times couldn’t resist, with a demure little nod in an otherwise dry explainer to “a voluptuous mermaid on the bow” that “bears a resemblance to Ms. Sánchez.”
There’s something very girlfriend-respecting about putting a shirt on your figurehead, but the mystery remains.

Entertainment | live map: where it’s raining in the bay area, entertainment, entertainment | jeff bezos gave lauren sanchez what every billionaire’s girlfriend will now want, for bezos, there was apparently no better way to show his love for lauren sanchez than to incorporate her image into the design of his new mega-yacht..
Now that Jeff Bezos has revealed that he decorated the prow of his new $500 million yacht with a sculpture of a “curvaceous winged goddess,” which bears a striking resemblance to his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, it’s easy to imagine that the partners of other billionaires will also want their likenesses to be incorporated into the designs of their family mega-yachts.
As the Daily Mail first reported this week, Bezos and Sanchez were seen lounging on one of the decks of his enormous new yacht, Koru, as it was moored off the coast of the Spanish island Mallorca. The yacht is believed by many to be the largest sailing yacht in the world.
As paparazzi captured images of the Amazon founder shirtless, and Sanchez wearing a tiny pink bikini, they also snapped photos of the ship’s figurehead. It appears to be a highly visible gesture of Bezos’ love for the former TV personality, as well as his idea of a cool new status symbol that will be the envy of other billionaires.

Apparently carved from wood, this Sánchez-inspired figurehead wears a tank top and a necklace that features another symbol — for Koru, which is Māori for loop or coil, People reported . The symbol has special meaning for the couple: It’s a spiral shape of an unfurling silver fern frond, and it represents new beginnings, as Bezos mentioned in a New Year’s Day Instagram post .
At the time, Bezos wrote that the new year is “a great time to take stock and focus on personal growth, renewal, rebirth, and paying careful attention to each moment of your life. The good and the bad. All of it. Celebrate and grow.”
For Bezos, Sanchez represents a major new beginning in his storied life as one of the world’s richest men who’s been transformed from “a monobrowed tech nerd with a receding hairline,” as the Daily Mail once said, into “a buff Vin Diesel-lookalike.”
Jeff Bezos bares his muscles with girlfriend Lauren Sanchez as they relax on his $500M love boat https://t.co/RfUB9NDPpB pic.twitter.com/Rw9MotfpYZ — Daily Mail Online (@MailOnline) May 17, 2023
This transformation seems to have begun with his love affair with Sanchez, which ended both their marriages in 2019. That January, Bezos and Sanchez’s secret romance was infamously exposed by the National Enquirer, which published a series of intimate text messages he sent her. One text read: “I love you, alive girl. I will show you with my body, and my lips and my eyes, very soon.”
Shortly before the National Enquirer published its story about the affair, Bezos and his then-wife Mackenzie Scott released a statement saying they planned to divorce after 25 years of marriage. They also described their split as amicable, with Scott walking away with a $35.6 billion settlement. Meanwhile, Sanchez divorced Hollywood super agent Patrick Whitesell.
Since then, Bezos and Sanchez have been “joined at the hip,” Page Six said, as they’ve enjoyed lavish vacations, attended gala parties and dinners and hung out with celebrity friends. Before finding their way to Bezos’ new yacht, they were spotted at the F1 Miami Grand Prix and hit the Coachella music festival, where they were seen dancing during Bad Bunny’s set, People said.
Over the past several years, Bezos also has been overseeing the construction of his ship Koru, wanting to make sure that its design includes very tall masts, a swimming pool, a helipad, and room for a second, smaller yacht, the Cut reported.
Jeff Bezos’s astonishing $500million love boat dominates the water off Spain https://t.co/GRZLaSCBa2 pic.twitter.com/2EC8FSNiIT — Daily Mail Online (@MailOnline) May 18, 2023
The ship was built in the historic port of Zwijndrecht, close to Rotterham in the Netherlands. Unfortunately, the tall masts sparked international controversy when Rotterdam announced that the middle section of its 100-year-old Koningshaven Bridge would have to be removed so the mega-yacht could make its way into the North Sea, the Daily Mail said.
There’s no word on when Bezos got the idea to create a figurehead to celebrate his love for his “alive girl.” But figureheads have been gracing ships for thousands of years, mostly for symbolic reasons, as they have no practical purpose. Goddess and queens, from Nike to Queen Victoria, have been popular inspirations, according to Daily Art magazine.
The Cut also said that ship owners have turned to designs of mermaids, fierce animals and Valkyrie to symbolize protection. Bezos probably figured that Sanchez, an enthusiastic helicopter pilot, belonged in this protective class. It’s also likely that Bezos’ gesture will inspire other billionaires to want to do the same for their girlfriends, wives, boyfriends or husbands, allowing a thousands-year-old art to become cool again.

Lauren Sánchez clarifies Jeff Bezos’ yacht figurehead isn’t her – would’ve had bigger breasts

Lauren Sánchez debunked the widely held thought that the figurehead mounted on Jeff Bezos $500 million yacht is her.
“I’m very flattered, but it’s not,” Sánchez told Vogue in a lengthy feature published Monday.
Instead, the sculpture at the prow of Koru, which is Maori for “new beginnings,” is one of Bezos’s favorite mythological figures: Freyja, the Norse goddess of love, fertility, war and gold.
“If it was me…,” Sánchez joked to the glossy before making a gesture of having larger breasts.
Sánchez, 53, and the Amazon founder, 59, sailed around on Koru all summer long.
The mega-yacht features three towering masts as well as three decks, one of which features a sprawling swimming pool, according to Boat International .
Koru costs Bezos a cool $25 million per year to run and can accommodate 18 guests — and requires a crew of 40 sailors.
The yacht also has a 250-foot support vessel that includes Bezos’ helicopter landing pad.
Koru is just one of Bezos and the helicopter pilot’s vessels in a fleet of super-yachts , helicopters and planes.
Over the summer, Bezos and Sánchez hosted a star-studded engagement party aboard Koru while it was anchored in Portofino, Italy.

VIP guests included Bill Gates and girlfriend Paula Hurd, as well as Kris Jenner, Corey Gamble, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and more.
Although they’ve been engaged since the summer, Sánchez told Vogue she and the billionaire haven’t started planning their nuptials.
“We’re still thinking about the wedding,” she shared, “what it’s going to be. Is it going to be big? Is it going to be overseas? We don’t know yet. We’ve only been engaged five months!”
When they do finally tie the knot, the former reporter intends to take his last name, saying, “I am looking forward to being Mrs. Bezos.”

What’s That Grotesque Sculpture on Jeff Bezos’s Megayacht?
Jeff Bezos has once again proven that money simply cannot buy taste through his addition of a new figurative sculpture attached to “Koru,” his $500M “superyacht” spotted off the Spanish coast this month. I must admit that the boat itself is quite sexy considering the price tag, but the fantasy figure installed on its prow, which could be a grotesque commemoration of his girlfriend-turned-fiancée, journalist and helicopter pilot Lauren Sánchez, leaves a lot to be desired.
The figure’s face undoubtedly resembles that of Sánchez, but that’s where the artistry ends and the horror show begins. Appearing to be carved from wood and polished to a sheen, the figure’s body has both arms, feathered wings, and clothed quads that transition bizarrely into … betta fish fins? Your guess is as good as mine, honestly, and I’m taking suggestions. At least the sculptor was conscious enough of female anatomy to include slightly protruding nipples poking through the tight dress that’s pretty much vacuum-sealed over the figure’s torso. I’m sure those are powerful headlights for this 417-foot-long luxury boat.
While it’s unconfirmed that the sculpture is modeled after Sánchez, its appearance coincides with the news of her engagement to Bezos that became public this week.
Jeff Bezos' extravagant 416ft yacht Koru has a figurehead on the prow that bears a striking resemblance to his glamorous girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, 53 pic.twitter.com/PebRTwsHnD — News News News (@NewsNew97351204) May 18, 2023
The sculptural figure appears to be wearing a spiral emblem pendant on a necklace that references the yacht’s name, “Koru,” referencing the Māori symbol that resembles an unfurling fern frond and signifies creation and perpetual movement. The Koru is also said to represent new life, a meaning that Bezos seems to be taking to heart since his 2019 divorce from his first wife, philanthropist and author MacKenzie Scott, and his 2021 step-down as CEO of Amazon followed by his first venture into outer space in a penis-shaped rocket mocked by everyone in the world.
While it’s not unusual to witness an upper-middle to upper-class man buying a boat to appease some sort of wealth-induced midlife crisis, I think we could all do without the polished boob-y wooden sculpture, and that $500M could have easily been used to ameliorate the working conditions at Amazon warehouses without making so much as a pin-prick in Bezos’s net worth. I guess it’s kind of sweet, in its own grotesque way, that Sánchez is leading Bezos into the next phase of his life through this really poorly executed artistic gesture. I may be giving out too much credit, though.

One reply on “What’s That Grotesque Sculpture on Jeff Bezos’s Megayacht?”
No mention that there is a long history of figureheads of ships and this one is in some way part of that tradition? https://www.dailyartmagazine.com/art-of-ships-figureheads/ The artistry and paternalistic nature of these figureheads could be debated throughout time, but the Bezos boat is not unique in having a figurehead per se.

Jeff Bezos Really, Really Likes His Girlfriend, According to the Figurehead Apparently Made in Her Image on His Estimated $500 Million Yacht
By Kenzie Bryant
It is yacht season, a time of year that occurs whenever or wherever there is nice weather for yachting on one’s yacht. What are the activities of yacht season? Well, if one is a billionaire or friends with one, dining, swimming, lounging, tanning, and feeling the ocean breeze through your hair. But for those landlubbers destined to only ever look at yachts through a screen, the activity of yacht season is mainly looking at photos of the yachters on their yachts while comparing the billionaires’ big boats.
Roman Abramovich ’s yacht Eclipse has a mini submarine on board and two helipads. Bernard Arnault ’s yacht has a grand piano and a cinema. Jeff Bezos ’s new yacht also has a name—Koru—and has three large masts, making it a sailing schooner that harkens back to the golden age of seafaring (though, at 417 feet, way bigger than those boats generally were). It’s the Renaissance fair of the seas.
And no Dutch-built yacht would be complete without a Valkyrie at its prow. The one on Koru looks a helluva lot like Lauren Sanchez, his girlfriend. Bezos has not commented on his ship to the press, so whether the figurehead is explicitly based on Sanchez’s visage and body is simply conjecture. Here, for example, is the Daily Mail conjecturing: “ curvaceous winged GODDESS…bears striking resemblance to none other than…Ms. Sanchez! ”
And here is the original Lauren Sanchez:

Besides a lifelike statue of his girlfriend, Bezos’s yacht has an on-deck pool as well as a pet yacht—that is, a smaller dinghy (only 246 feet) that provides a helipad and storage for “toys,” and follows the big yacht around, according to The New York Times . Koru has been under construction for years, but Bezos’s yacht was first spotted sailing in the seas of Spain’s Mallorca on Monday. The couple were photographed on board in their swim trunks , enjoying the fruits of their patience.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has sought to symbolize his love to girlfriend Lauren Sanchez by having a sculpture of the former news anchor placed on his superyacht.
Sanchez , who has been in a relationship with Bezos since 2019, now has a wooden effigy on the bow of the $500 million vessel, which is wearing the symbol for Koru.
Koru is Maori for loop or coil and is spiral shape of an unfurling silver fern frond. It is a symbol which is meaningful to the couple as it symbolizes new beginnings.
"We had so much fun last night celebrating with a crazy disco party with family," Bezos wrote on Instagram, "but the new year is also a great time to take stock and focus on personal growth, renewal, rebirth, and paying careful attention to each moment of your life.
"The good and the bad. All of it. Celebrate and grow."

Finding love
After Bezos filed for divorce to his wife of 25 years, MacKenzie, Sanchez was also in the middle of divorcing her husband of 13 years, Patrick Whitesell, who is a Hollywood agent, the pair got together with Sanchez wanting the world to see Bezos as she does.
"They don't see the man who puts everything aside to help a sick friend, but my eyes do," Sanchez wrote on Instagram about her relationship with Bezos.
"They don't see the man who wakes up early every morning to make breakfast for the kids so they can laugh and talk about life and science and how to make this world a better place, my eyes do.
"They don't see the man who wants everyone to feel joy, who's heart is immeasurable and who's ability to love is infinite. My eyes see this."
The pair have been seen at many public events including the recent Miami GP and Coachella music festival.

Jeff Bezos's $500M yacht: World's largest, has Bezos's girlfriend's sculpture!
On Wednesday, Amazon's founder Jeff Bezos threw an engagement party to celebrate his companionship with fiancée Lauren Sánchez on his awe-inspiring yacht Koru in Italy, reported Page Six . They had gotten engaged in May 2023 . The function was attended by selected high-profile celebrities such as Bill Gates and Wendi Murdoch. The yacht has been the focal point of much intrigue and awe. Here's why.
One of its kind: It's the world's largest sailing yacht
Koru was formerly known as Y721, and per Boat International , it has the honor of being the world's largest sailing yacht as well as the largest yacht to have been built in the Netherlands . The site further explains the yacht's features- "[There is a] large pool on the aft deck, a seating area on the bowsprit, and multiple areas for relaxing across open decks."
It costs a mammoth $25M a year to run
Per a Hindustan Times report, the three-mast sailing and 417-foot-long yacht can reach a speed of 20 knots. To put this into perspective, it's important to note that large yachts usually average about 15 knots. The marvelous super boat costs about $25M a year to run and requires a crew of 40 sailors. It can accommodate about 18 people at a time.
Koru: Meaning of the word and significance
The word "koru" comes from Maori (an indigenous tribe in New Zealand ) art and is represented by a coil or loop, implying new beginnings, peace, and growth. Moreover, its spiral nature conveys the idea of perpetual movement. While sharing images from his New Year's party in January 2022, Bezos uploaded an image of the yacht and mentioned "personal growth, renewal, rebirth" in his caption.
It even has Sánchez's sculpture!
If all these stupendpus features weren't jaw-dropping enouh, there's more! Bezos's yacht has a magnificent wooden sculpture of Sánchez installed on the prow (the front part of the ship) and wears a necklace that contains the symbol of koru. Hard to compete with that level of love! To recall, the couple went public with their relationship in 2019, after Bezos's divorce from MacKenzie Scott.
Mushy centibillionaire Jeff Bezos has immortalized his glamorous girlfriend Lauren Sanchez as a massive figurehead on his $500 million megayacht Koru – Nothing says ‘I love you’ as a wooden sculpture carved as a Roman goddess on a 417 feet long vessel.
Jeff Bezos is a man of wealth and grand gestures! Call it an ode to the gorgeous girlfriend, the besotted billionaire’s 416ft yacht Koru sports a voluptuous figurehead on the prow bearing an uncanny resemblance to 53-year-old Lauren Sanchez . What else could one expect from the man who didn’t bat an eyelid before splurging half a billion dollars on his enormous mega yacht? The polished wooden sculpture sits on the prow of the Amazon boss’ 416ft love boat. Striking beauty Sanchez is accurately depicted as a Roman Goddess.

The much-in-love couple started dating in 2019, and their incredible journey onboard Koru began earlier this month when the couple was spotted on the Oceanco mammoth for the first time.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez got in touch with their artsy side at Art Basel Miami Beach!
The engaged couple was among thousands of people who visited the 2023 installation of the annual art exhibition in South Florida.
Over the weekend, the Amazon founder and the Emmy-winning journalist were photographed together checking out some of the art. Sánchez, 53, wore a cream-colored ensemble while Bezos, 59, opted for a blue shirt and jeans.
Sánchez also shared some of her favorite highlights from the trip in a video on her Instagram page. “So much fun with the family,” she captioned the post, which she said included "a little bit of this and a little bit of that."
October Gonzalez, who is married to Sánchez's ex Tony Gonzalez , with whom the helicopter pilot shares son Nikko, commented on the post by writing, "So. Much. Fun."
The outing comes more than a month after Bezos announced that he was relocating from Seattle to Miami .

The billionaire, who has lived in Seattle since 1994, during his early days of building the Amazon empire, said that he had "so many amazing memories here."
"As exciting as the move is, it’s an emotional decision for me," he wrote in the post announcing the move .
At the time, Bezos explained the motivations behind his upcoming move, saying he wanted to be closer to his parents and that "Lauren and I love Miami.”
"Also, Blue Origin’s operations are increasingly shifting to Cape Canaveral," he added.
The couple took their relationship public in January 2019, after Bezos announced his divorce from ex-wife MacKenzie Scott , with whom he shares four children. At the time, the helicopter pilot was also divorcing her husband of 13 years, Patrick Whitesell. The pair share two children.
As for the couple's upcoming wedding, the bride-to-be recently told Vogue that she is “looking forward to being Mrs. Bezos ” — but that's about as far as she's planned.
“We’re still thinking about the wedding [and] what it’s going to be. Is it going to be big? Is it going to be overseas? We don’t know yet,” she said. “We’ve only been engaged five months!”

Breaking news, endorsements | live map: where it’s raining in the bay area, endorsements | keeping up with the bezoses: mark zuckerberg buys a super yacht, reports say, a report says that zuckerberg’s luxurious new $300 million vessel was originally was commissioned by a russian oligarch who was the target of sanctions imposed after that country’s invasion of ukraine.
Given that Mark Zuckerberg enjoys a respectable 16th place on a list of the world’s richest people, he probably figured it was time for him to acquire one of the ultimate status symbols for the mega-wealthy — a super yacht.
A new report from The Sun said that Zuckerberg is now the proud owner of a $300 million vessel that he has christened “Launchpad.” The 387-foot-long vessel, which comes with a helipad and a $30 million companion boat, was seen docked this week at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with its unique chrome finish reflecting in the sun.
This purchase shows, among other things, that the Facebook and Meta founder and CEO has branched out from buying islands and building an underground complex to help him survive the apocalypse. Perhaps, he wants to cruise the Mediterranean this summer and be among the moguls who can play host to Leonardo DiCaprio.
The yacht definitely grants him admission to the watery playgrounds of such multibillionaires as Jeff Bezos, Larry Ellison, Bill Gates and any of the Russian oligarchs who haven’t been the target of sanctions imposed by the United States or its allies over Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
In fact, Zuckerberg reportedly came by Launchpad due to the misfortunes of one of those oligarchs. The yacht originally was commissioned to be built by Vladimir Potanin, one of Russia’s richest men who is on multiple sanctions list, according to a report by Autoevolution.com , a transportation industry site. The yacht was known as Project 1010, and the shipbuilder in the Netherlands was legally barred from delivering it to Potanin when it was completed in 2022, though Autoevolution also said that Potanin was not the yacht’s actual owner.
The Sun reported that the yacht recently received “special permission” to be imported. It has since arrived in the United States, a couple months ahead of Zuckerberg’s 40th birthday on May 14 — which raises the question of whether he meant Launchpad as a birthday gift to himself.
It’s quite a gift: Launchpad can comfortably fit 24 guests aboard. It also requires a crew of 48 and is said to cost $30 million a year for upkeep and usage, according to Superyachtfan.com . But shelling out $30 million for maintenance a year shouldn’t be a problem for Zuckerberg, who reportedly earns between $6 million and $12 million a day, The Sun said.
But as spectacular as Launchpad sounds, super yacht fans might say it’s not as spectacular as Jeff Bezos’s super yacht, Koru. The $500 million sailing vessel features very tall masts, a swimming pool, a helipad and room for a second, smaller yacht. The most noteworthy thing about Koru is that Bezos commissioned a special sculpture to decorate its prow. It’s a “curvaceous winged goddess” that is said to bear a striking resemblance to his fiancee Lauren Sanchez.
The Amazon founder, his wife-to-be and the goddess figurehead spent much of last summer sailing around the Mediterranean, cruising from Spain to Croatia and hosting such famous guests as Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom and Usher. The couple also threw a lavish engagement party off the coast of Positano on Italy’s Amalfi coast, attended by another pack of famous friends, including Kris Jenner, Wendi Murdoch and, yes, Leonardo DiCaprio.

What yachting industry insiders have to say about Jeff Bezos' superyacht
- Jeff Bezos' yacht , which reportedly cost $500 million to build, completed its first year at sea.
- The superyacht, Koru, was a frequent topic of conversation at the Palm Beach boat show.
- Here's what industry insiders think about the vessel.
It's been just about a year since Koru, Jeff Bezos ' $500 million megayacht, set sail from the Oceanco shipyard in the Netherlands, capturing the attention of yachting insiders and land dwellers alike.
Even after her first season at sea, the 127-meter ship is still one of the most talked about vessels among those in the know — and not just for the busty figurehead on its prow, which many have wrongly speculated is based on Bezos's fiancée . Koru was a hot topic at the annual Palm Beach International Boat Show, where the yachts of other billionaires were on display for sale or charter.
The overwhelming response from those Business Insider spoke to was awe, with many praising her unique design, commenting on her immense size, or remarking that they'd been lucky enough to see her up close.
"It's absolutely beautiful," said Federico Rossi, the COO of luxury yachtbuilder Rossinavi.
Still, due to the small size of the industry — and the fact that privacy is paramount in the yachting community — even those who complimented Koru mostly did not want to go on record in order to protect professional relationships.
"That thing's amazing," one such superyacht expert told BI. "It's very well done in terms of craftsmanship."
Unlike many other megayachts, Koru, which media billionaire Barry Diller's Eos inspired, is designed as a sailing yacht. That bucks the current trend of more severe-looking explorer boats — though Koru's 75-meter support vessel Abeona is of a more typical style,
"I heard back in 2018 or something that somebody had ordered a classic sailing yacht," the superyacht expert also told BI. "You order 125 meters, that's not really going to be classic. But it is. I think it's pretty cool."
Like most other megayachts, Koru is powered by her engines, which are reportedly innovative in their use of a kinetic energy recovery system. Industry experts, therefore, pointed out that her sails are more for looks than anything else — but that still works in her favor, with many praising her overall aesthetic appeal.
Related stories
"It's stunning," added a captain who has worked on several megayachts. He said he'd seen Koru in St. Barts, a favorite spot of Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez , over the holidays.
"There are definitely uglier boats out there," one yacht architect said. "It's not like it's shaped like his rocket," he jokily added, referring to the phallic design of Blue Origin's New Shephard .
Some, though, think the yacht is a bit excessive — which is saying something in a world where bigger is better and $250 million is a normal amount to spend.
"That's over the top. That's an insanely ridiculous boat," a longtime broker who favors discretion said. It's a "whole big show."
And the expert who praised the yacht's craftsmanship balanced his admiring comments by saying Koru's liberal use of teak — a wood traditionally used for yacht decks — was "bizarre."
The material has gained a bad reputation in the industry in recent years, as it typically comes from Myanmar, a country with a checkered human rights record. Plus, it takes a long time to grow, leading to deforestation.
Many shipyards have now turned to alternatives, like bamboo or plantation-grown teak, in their pushes toward sustainability. Bezos' team did not respond to BI's question about the origin of the deck's wood.
Teak or not, the yachting industry isn't generally known for being all that environmentally friendly — or indeed lowkey, so many who BI talked to didn't buy into the idea that Koru is "too much."
"If this is genuinely Jeff's dream come true, then great," Anders Kurtén, the CEO of brokerage Fraser Yachts, said. "I'm genuinely happy for him, and I'm happy for the people who got the opportunity to have employment to work on that."
And Bezos, of course, isn't the only billionaire with a stunning yacht . Billionaires like Jerry Jones and Bernard Arnault have also, at times, turned heads with their boats.
Most recently, insiders have tied Mark Zuckerberg to a 118-meter ship named Launchpad . It's the latest superyacht to capture the yachting world's attention.
So, as she sets sail for her debut summer season, Launchpad may take Koru's place as the main yacht on everyone's radar this year.

Viele Insider lieben Bezos Superyacht
