Renowned for its range of social and competitive activities, the Club offers sailing, diving, angling, powerboating, kayaking, paddleboarding, social events and on-water training courses. It also has superb facilities for boating enthusiasts with 107 floating pens and 163 fixed pens ranging from 8 metres to 20 metres. Pen options include annual club rentals and long -term leases with subleases and the Club also offers professional boat lifting, rack storage, service and repair work.

Hillarys Yacht Club welcomes all new enquiries for Membership, with a raft of Membership opportunities to suit all prospective Members from Full, Senior, Junior, Country and Corporate.

Hillarys Yacht Club (HYC) currently has a unique and exciting opportunity for the right candidate to have responsibility for the Marina and Clubhouse infrastructure.

Since forming in 1986 the Club has always prided itself on and has maintained its relaxed and informal atmosphere in a stunning location.  Hillarys Yacht Club is an active family recreational facility and a thriving enterprise.  It boasts a large Clubhouse as well as 269 on-water pens, boat lifting and racking services and junior clubhouse.  

Hillarys Yacht Club's second storey restaurant, function room and ocean view bar showcase some of the best views along the northern coastline, coupled with our excellent training facilities, strives to be the Premier Club on the coast.  

Following a recent review of Club operations and staffing structures, this is a new position. The Marina & Infrastructure Manager is responsible for managing both the Clubs Marina and Clubhouse assets, maintenance staff and operations.

This is a full-time salaried position with two direct reports, and reports to the General Manager. 

Key tasks and responsibilities :

The role is to work collaboratively with the Club's internal resources and external stakeholders to effectively and professionally coordinate and deliver operational outcomes that supports the Club’s overall business objectives and strategic direction.

The role includes:

• Management of the Club marina from a compliance perspective in accordance with by-laws, including managing annual rental agreements, contracts and leases, ensuring full pen occupancy, management of waitlists, live on board administration etc
• Management and coordination of marina and clubhouse maintenance plans and budgets
• Asset management including maintaining works schedules and asset maintenance registers
• Maintain existing penholder relations and provide new penholder onboarding processes
• Financial responsibility of marina and clubhouse maintenance and capital budgets and ensuring financial targets are achieved
• Strategic vision and coordination of the marina master plan and its future implementation 
• Staff and contractor management and coordination
• Provide support and guidance to the Marina Facilities Rear Commodore and Sub-Committee, including attendance at monthly meetings, providing best practice marina management compliance and operations, vessel inspection and maintenance reports, including Member and the Club-owned vessel fleet
• Knowledge of and compliance with Workplace Health and Safety requirements
• Administration and reporting of department operations to the General Manager and Management Committee

Qualifications and Experience :

• 3+ years in a similar role and with relevant qualifications and experience
• Proven skills and knowledge of buildings, marina assets and marina operations
• Attention to detail, excellent time management skills, ability to meet deadlines and the capacity to manage multiple competing priorities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong initiative and problem solving skills
• National Police Clearance
• Strong IT skills with the use of Microsoft Suite of products, websites and club management software
• Flexibility is required with the ability from time to time to work alternate hours

Hillarys Yacht Club honours three of its outstanding achievers at AGM

Hillarys Yacht Club has recognised three of its outstanding individuals at its AGM.

Dinghy club champion Bradley Dick was named Junior Sportsperson of the Year not just for his success as club champion but also as ‘junior representative’ having to deal with the aftermath of Covid lockdowns and motivating junior sailors back on to the water.

Apart from his local club sailing, Bradley represented HYC in the 2022 ILCA Laser State Championships in February at The Cruising Yacht Club, coming second in the Laser 4.7 under 16s. In his spare time Bradley is restoring a power boat to a high standard.

The success of Wayne Pitcher and his crew sailing his J122 racing yacht Lithium in the challenging West Australian offshore events this past season underpinned his award of Senior Sportsperson of the Year.

Competing against the cream of offshore racers from yacht clubs based on the Swan River and at Fremantle Picher claimed a number of placings in several events to win the Blue Water Series and was third in the Fremantle to Geraldton race.

The pinnacle, however, was winning the Corinthian Cup for the best overall performance of a yacht without a paid professional crew.

Best Club Person of the Year went to Bill McPherson primarily for his dedication to the club’s angling section after stepping into the role as Rear Commodore mid-year.

In that capacity McPherson did an enormous amount of work preparing, promoting and running the revamped fishing Harbour Classic competition which attracted a large number of contestants eager to win the lucrative prize money.

They were able to use the new angling weigh-in station that he was heavily involved in its construction.

Very handy with a welder McPherson also attended to many tasks around the marina, clubhouse and jetties.

As a dedicated volunteer McPherson’s skills were invaluable with the installation of the new walkway replacing part of one of the jetties, the maintenance of club boats and regularly re-fuelling them.

As a new member to the club and working away for such a long swing, I am still finding out about the club. Introduction night was informative and the vice commodore very open and friendly answering any and all questions from the variety of new members. The club has a great selection of activities to pursue from, casual dining, Pinky's outdoor bar, 3 separate function rooms, well prepared meals upstairs with brilliant views of the marina and coast from the three sided balcony. There is the boat lifting facility, sailing, power boating, fishing, diving, social nights, boat hire for fishing etc, kids sailing club, a wide range of training courses and soon to be fuel supplies, something for everyone that like anything water or coastal related. Can't wait to get to know more members and get involved.

This is a club and, as such, comes with the usual disclaimers: you might want to hit up a member before trying to get in without an invitation. It's worth it, though. Hillarys Yacht Club doesn't fit all of one's preconceived notions about such clubs--most of the members are retirees, not Abercrombie & Fitch models--but it certainly fits some of them. There is a level of comfort, of familiarity, that one can't help but find appealing. As in all the best bars, everyone knows everybody else's name, and last time I was there someone came out to the outside bar, which wasn't even supposed to be open, and plied us with our poisons of choice until such a time as we were satisfied. In terms of food, the nights tend to be themed: pasta on Monday, buffets on Wednesday and Friday, steak or seafood on Thursday, and so on. To complain of the staidness of the options, or of their predictability, would be to miss the point entirely: as with your average RSL, the food is simple, well-done, and filling. The club can also be hired out as a venue for weddings, seminars and the rest. In any case, you don't have to eat at the club to enjoy it: sitting up on the balcony, enjoying the complimentary nuts and a glass of white wine, one can look north along the coast as the sun sets to the west. And that's something.

Many a fond memory growing up here, back in the 90s when the club was new. As children (part of a family membership) there was a kids hangout / shed in an old portable, with a TV and things to keep us all occupied. All the regular HYC families knew each other and socialised well, regular events were attended, including Christmas functions where "Santa" would visit every year and bring a big bag full of gifts for everybody! It would be fantastic if HYC tried to look up all the old, original members and get in touch with us as we are all adults now with our own families.

I used to be part of a family membership here, back in the 90s, it was great! We had somewhat of a kids hangout, with TV and when dinner was served one of the adults would come out and call us inside to eat. At Christmas time one of the members would dress as Santa and every child who was a member would receive a present! Many fond memories here!

A bit hit and miss with quality. Buffet is reasonably priced as is the Monday night special but a bit pricey on other nights and have to order extra veg or salad as they are not included with main apart from potato.
