Woman aboard a Luxury yacht

Your yacht charter vacation is all about water, sun and new horizons. Limited only by your desires!

Stretch out on a sunpad on the foredeck with a good book for relaxed sunbathing while the kids have fun on an inflatable slide or climbing wall.

Charter yacht water toys

Spend the morning playing in the water; having a wild time on a jet-ski or towed on a tube or perhaps kayaking along the shoreline.

Break for lunch on the beach enjoying your favorite cuisine; succulent seafood ... or is that a burger and fries?

Ease away some afternoon hours snorkeling a nearby reef or combing the beach, perhaps exploring caves and coves.

Family snorkeling

Then return to your yacht to relax over sun-downers with some favorite music.

On an overnight luxury yacht charter? Dress up - or not - for a fine alfresco dinner then put your feet up and watch a movie or gather on the aftdeck for socializing and after-dinner-drinks.

The great thing is tomorrow you get to do it all again ... or something entirely different ... here, because you love the location, or venture off to new horizons.

Choosing Your Yacht

No different to choosing a luxury resort for a shore-based holiday, your crewed charter yacht should provide everything you need for a fabulous vacation.

Luxury yachts moored in marina

  • The charter price must obviously suit your budget; see the yacht vacation cost section to know what's included in the price.
  • The accommodation must cater for the size of your group; check # guests for day charters and # cabins for overnight charters (usually two guests sleeping per cabin)
  • The style and features of the yacht must suit your guests and itinerary. For instance, deck space might be important for large groups or fast cruising speed important for quick journeys.

Yacht water toys

The activities your charter group enjoy should be catered for by the yacht's inventory of water toys. See our guide to water toys in the blog.

Luxury yacht exterior

All our charter yachts are crewed, luxury motor yachts, so common throughout is guest safety, professional, friendly service and fine dining. See the luxury charter yachts in our fleet.

Cost of a Yacht Vacation

Choose between prepackaged vacation trips with all inclusive prices or 'roll-your-own' yacht vacation itineraries which we'll help plan to suit your budget.

Couple on a luxury yacht

What to Consider

  • the yacht ; larger, more modern yachts are more expensive
  • the destination ; longer journeys use more fuel which is a significant element of the overall cost.

Yacht vacation prices are quoted per charter and not per person.

Couple enjoying the sunset from the deck of their yacht

All-inclusive Charters

Prices for day and weekend-getaway charters with prepackaged itineraries are all-inclusive and include: the yacht with crew, fuel, use of the toys, meals, beverages and local tax.

The only additional expense is the crew gratuity of 10-20%. It's not compulsory but is customary.

Payment is by wire transfer. You can also pay for day charters by credit card. 50% of the charter fee is payable when confirming your booking. The remaining 50% is payable one month before the departure date.

Plus Expenses Charters

If you want to rent a yacht for a week or more, your vacation package will have a completely flexible itinerary and for this reason the price is made up of a Charter Fee plus Advanced Provisioning Allowance ("APA") of 30-35% of the charter fee.

The Charter Fee includes the price of the yacht, crew and use of facilities.

The APA covers those expenses that fluctuate according to the itinerary; including fuel, meals, marina expenses and local taxes.

The APA is held by the captain and disbursed as needed. You receive a detailed account at the end of the charter, along with the refund of any unspent balance.

The Best Weekend Yacht Charter Hotspots

Thinking of a possible weekend getaway on a luxury yacht? We’re here to help! We have compiled a list of weekend yacht charter destinations that exhibit the natural beauty and astonishing architecture that Europe has to offer, guaranteed to leave you in awe and counting down the days until you can start your once in a lifetime luxury cruise.

The French Riviera

Explore the French Riviera for the Weekend

With over 20 million tourists in 2019, the French Riviera is by far our top pick when it comes to selecting a European weekend yacht charter destination. Located in the South of France, the French Riviera is a stunningly picturesque part of the world, renowned globally as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, the Provence Alpes Cotes d’Azur plays host to a world of culture and picturesque coastlines. The French Riviera encompasses the glitz and the glam of the high roller casinos in Monaco, the seamless mix of bustling city streets and private beaches of Nice, the relaxed and historical Antibes, the rich and famous city of Cannes and its high street luxury shops and everything in between.

The best way to explore this gorgeous location and truly make it a once in a lifetime experience is definitely onboard a luxury yacht. The level of customer service on board coupled with experience of being onboard a luxury vessel and exploring the West Mediterranean will without a doubt be the standout holiday of a lifetime.

The French Riviera, Your Perfect Weekend Destination

Access to the French Riviera couldn’t be easier, with direct flights into Nice Airport from hundreds of locations worldwide the Rivera is at your doorstep! Once you arrive in Nice, you’re only a 30 minute drive East to Monaco or 40 minutes West to Cannes. To explore the French Riviera for all it has to offer I would recommend Cannes as a starting point, you have the option of Port Canto, the old port by the Palais de Festival and Port de la Rague. From here you have great access to some amazing itineraries in all directions.

You could head East past the Cap D’Antibes and past Nice through the Baie des Anges, and spend some time exploring the really nice bays around Saint Jean Cap Ferrat (my personal favourite area along the coast!). There are great coves with crystal clear water around the Cap, perfect for a swim or the use of toys if available on-board. Or you could head West across the Bay of Cannes and along the Esterel past the pretty ports of Théole sur Mer, Mandelieu La Napoule and Port de la Rague, en-route to Saint Tropez. With just one road into St Tropez, a yacht is by far the best way to visit this famous region, and the coast on the way is stunning. For more detailed and amazing itineraries please get in touch with us!

The Best Time to Explore The French Riviera

The Riviera is a hive of action and entertainment during the summer months. Therefore we would highly recommend visiting it from the start of May through to the end of August. There is a multitude of events to enjoy and plan your trip around during the summer months. For example you have the Monaco Grand Prix and classical Grand Prix in May. Also the Cannes Film Festival is in May, the Nice Jazz Festival takes place in July. You have Les Voiles d’Antibes in June and countless more events and occasions right across the Riviera. So there is sure to be adventure and fun around every corner!

Explore the Italian Coastline over the Weekend

With over 62 million tourists last year, Italy is next on our list of the best weekend yacht charter destinations. Nestled between the Ligurian Sea and the Maritime Alps mountain chain the Italian Riviera is a stunning must-see destination. The main attraction on the Italian Riviera is Cinque Terre. Which is a collection of seaside villages including Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. There are centuries of culture and heritage to be seen in each of the 5 fishing villages. With colourful buildings, sheer terraces and harbours that are synonymous with the Italian Riviera.

Access to the Italian Riviera couldn’t be easier. With international flights servicing Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport and Pisa International airport you can easily access a multitude of ports along the Riviera. Including Genoa, Portofino, Lavagna, Rapallo, Cinque Terre and La Spezia. Which means you are never too far from a port to start your once in a lifetime West Mediterranean exploration.

The best way to explore this gorgeous location and truly make it a once in a lifetime experience is definitely onboard a luxury yacht. There you will experience the level of customer service on board coupled with experience of being onboard a luxury vessel. From there you can the West Mediterranean. It will without a doubt be the standout holiday of a lifetime.

The Unmatched Italian Riviera by Yacht

The Italian Riviera offers endless possibilities and locations to explore. The first of these being the stunning and inviting villages of the Cinque Terre. Cruise the rugged coastline, enjoying the natural beauty of the rolling hillsides and the turquoise water. While being on the way to the renowned Riomaggiore vineyard. Or bask in the Mediterranean sunshine sunbathing on the rocks or diving into the magnificently clear water on one of the many magnificent beaches in the region. Including Vernazza beach, Monterosso beach and Levanto Beach.

You could also cruise to Portofino, marvelling at the charming harbours and vibrant buildings that entrance tourists from around the world. These earn Portofino its reputation as the jewel of the Italian Riviera. You could also visit the seaport city of Genoa and experience its rich culture. When walking the narrow streets steeped in history and exploring the medieval centre, this is the perfect way to pass an afternoon. For much more detailed and numerous itineraries please get in contact with us!

The summer months are the perfect opportunity to visit the Italian Riviera. With the charter season in full swing and exceptional weather, you’ll be sure to find the perfect yacht and make memories of a lifetime!

Greece, the Perfect Yacht Charter Destination

Moving to the East Mediterranean, Greece is a great weekend yacht charter destination you don’t want to miss out on. Greece welcomes 30 million visitors a year, 5 million of these flocking to its capital Athens. And this is where we recommend you experience the ideal yachting weekend!

The birthplace of modern-day civilization and some of the greatest philosophers in history, Athens is a centrepiece in European history and culture. This city worshipped by gods and steeped in classical monuments is extremely accessible. Athens International Airport serves as a landing spot for a multitude of international destinations. From here you are only a 35-minute drive from the most popular port of departure in Greece, Piraeus Port. Located Southwest of the capital this port city is the site of bustling seafaring activities and your ideal launching pad for exploring all the East Mediterranean has to offer.

One of the most beautiful archipelagos in the Mediterranean are the Cyclades. Which offer clear blue skies, glittering turquoise waters, sugar cube houses that tumble-down rocky cliffs, blue-domed churches, ancient ruins and natural wonders. From superyacht hot spots such as Santorini and Mykonos to secret hideaways. That makes the 220 strong island chain a welcome variety to all travellers. Discover rustic villages, cosmopolitan party hubs, romantic bays, glorious sunsets and fantastic seafood restaurants on your yacht charter around the spectacular waters of the Aegean sea.

Greece by Yacht, a Weekend Itinerary

Start your cruise by visiting the capital of the Cyclades, Syros. The rich Venetian influences are evident in the architecture and buildings of the capital. Which make Syros stand out among the other islands and highlight its magnificent past. Walking up through the narrow streets lined by traditional whitewashed houses provides the perfect way to spend an afternoon. That is before relaxing on Achladi beach, soaking in the east Mediterranean rays, or swimming in the crystal-clear waters.

Mykonos is also a must-see destination within the Cyclades. Its natural beauty and rich heritage provide a stunning backdrop to admire and explore. Marvel at the windmills of Chora or the sun as it sets over the rugged coastline from your personal luxury viewpoint.

Santorini forms the southernmost member of the Cyclades and is without a doubt the Jewel of the Aegean Sea. Santorini is renowned as one of the most romantic destinations in the world. The island was the site of a large volcanic eruption, breath-taking villages have since been constructed on the site of the eruption with stunning views of the sea. Famous for its Cycladic architecture and romantic sunset views, Santorini is sure to provide the memories of a lifetime! For more detailed itineraries and other amazing locations please get in contact with us!

It is recommended to visit Greece in the summer months. Because the charter season will be in full swing, so you will have access to the best choice of luxury yachts available in the East Mediterranean!

Visit Croatia by Yacht Charter

Looking for a more secluded weekend yacht charter destination? Look no further than Split, Croatia. With just over a million tourists visiting Split last year, this Croatian destination still has a secluded and reserved identity to it. With a selection of gorgeous beaches and stunning Roman architecture in the city, Split is the perfect starting point for a Croatian weekend yachting destination.

Serviced by 6 international airports, travelling to Croatia couldn’t be easier! Flying into Kastela airport of Split you are only a 10-minute drive away from the main port of departure in Croatia, Trojir and on the doorstep of all the Adriatic Sea has to offer.

From Split head to Drvenik, this little pair of islands are the northernmost of an archipelago that includes Šolta and Brač. Thus creating a barrier between Split and the open sea. This almost uninhabited island is well known for its clear waters, sandy beaches and olive trees. Snorkelling, a romantic walk on the beach and island exploration are waiting for you.

You can then cruise to Vis town, looking out for dolphins. As you get closer, you’ll see the canons on the top of the hill, a reminder of Vis’s wartime importance. Anchor in the deep, protected bay and take in the magnificent spectacle of the mountains, fortresses and the stately buildings. A walk through the town is definitely recommended to enjoy the roman influence and baths!

Explore the Croatian Coastline by Yacht

From here, enjoy a leisurely cruise around the Elaphite islands on your way to Luka Polaceon Mljetisland. Which is one of the best superyacht anchorages in the area and close to the saltwater lakes. Take an afternoon swim in the lakes and enjoy a sunset dinner in Melittaon the tiny island in the centre of the biggest lake.

A Croatian yacht charter wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Dubrobnik. This old town, with its natural beauty and rich heritage effortlessly captures people’s attention and leaves them in awe of its beauty. Indeed it’s hard to imagine anyone becoming jaded by the city’s white limestone streets, baroque buildings and the endless shimmer of the Adriatic. Or failing to be inspired by a walk along the ancient city walls that protected a civilised, sophisticated republic for centuries.

For more detailed itineraries do please get in contact with us.

So there it is, after years of charter experience across Europe and indeed the world, we can’t recommend these destinations enough. And each with their own unique appeal and highlights. Yacht Week: A Beginner’s Guide

Table of Contents

Last Updated on January 18, 2023 by Boatsetter Team

If you could sail, swim, and celebrate on repeat each day for a week until you’re happily exhausted, you’d do it, wouldn’t you? Well, boating has just the event for that: Yacht Week. Haven’t heard of it? Here’s a Yacht Week Beginner’s Guide :

Rent. Charter. Share— only at Boatsetter

First, what is Yacht Week?

If you’ve never heard of The Yacht Week , it’s called the original floating festival. You stay aboard a skippered boat with a bunch of your friends, cruising alongside other like-minded travelers.

A skippered boat is a boat with someone who is in command of it, more or less equal to a captain! This gives your crew opportunities to focus on the fun and potentially learn boating from an experienced guide.

Options exist for per- cabin bookings, too. Regardless, for seven days, you explore convoy-style, visiting picture-perfect destinations like Croatia, Turkey, Tahiti, and the British Virgin Islands. While you have the freedom to follow your own itinerary, you get your skipper’s first-hand knowledge of where to go and what to do.

yacht week guide

You can dine onboard or ashore , soak up the sun on secluded beaches, and of course, swim. Come at nighttime, and join your fellow adventurers at organized parties on the beach and in clubs. Or, simply star gaze on deck before drifting off to sleep.

Yacht Week’s brief history

The Yacht Week got its start nearly two decades ago. Directors and founders Eric Biorklund and William Wenckel worked for the same company as charter-boat captains in Europe when inspiration struck. A two-week period in Greece was so much fun that they became fast friends with their guests. Figuring they could replicate the success, they reserved 10 yachts for traveling together for a subsequent summer in anticipation of attracting 100 guests. It worked. They then added another five yachts to that total, which also filled up. Guests had so much fun, in fact, that they requested Biorklund and Wenckel arrange more trips. Soon the duo had more cruisers than staterooms available. So, they turned it into a dedicated business, and The Yacht Week was born.

With another business partner onboard, Biorklund and Wenckel set their sights on growing The Yacht Week internationally. That, too, worked. The company went from booking 30 boats in 2006 to more than 1,300 within a decade.

Experiences you’ve never had before

Yacht Week Experience

The Yacht Week is more than just skippered boats; the goal is to provide you with experiences you’ve never had before! For example, if you’re into techno, house music, and similar styles, the Croatia Ultra Route dates in July coincide with the Ultra Europe EDM festival. Pro Tip: Your yacht package includes VIP tickets.

While music is a big part of The Yacht Week—and cruising in general—other itineraries are more about the destinations and camaraderie.

From May through September, for instance, trips depart from Athens, Greece, and head to a number of islands. To ensure you get to know your fellow cruisers, a raft-up (anchoring your boat side by side) kicks off the first day.

Each day for the rest of the week, you can explore ancient sites and towns with guides on foot or drive an ATV through the countryside. Fun costume parties, White Parties (where you wear all white), and more occur each day, too.

To cap off the summer in style, book one of two available weeks (at presstime) in Turkey in September. You’ll enjoy the country’s famed Turquoise Coast, along its southwestern shore, starting out in Fethiye. When you go sightseeing, don’t miss the chance to partake in a Turkish bath. You’ll emerge with your skin feeling invigorated and an amazing story to share.

Pro Tip: Speaking of sharing, you’ll be sharing picture after picture on social media with your friends and family back home. The Yacht Week also has professional photographers and videographers on hand during each itinerary to ensure the best moments get captured.

Get a feel for boating

If you’re curious about how the boat operates, feel free to ask questions. Captains love sharing their knowledge and passion, so you can take a turn at the wheel as well. Plenty of cruisers become friends, too, with their fellow passengers, planning future cruises upon returning home. That’s what ultimately makes The Yacht Week a week to remember for a lifetime.

The best small cruising yachts in 2023

  • Theo Stocker
  • September 29, 2023

Despite bigger yachts dominating the new boat scene in recent decades, there are still any number of builders making new smaller cruisers. Here's our pick of the best small cruising yachts in 2023

weekend yacht

We have seen a surprisingly large number of builders going against the grain to bring small cruising yachts to market in the last year or so, ranging from trailer0-sailers to smaller traditionally-styled options. Here, we’ve rounded up 4 of the best small cruising yachts launched in the last year.

Typically this size of yacht appeals to those who are looking for a day sailer or weekender and will often offer reduced draught in able to allow you to go creek crawling or nose your way into otherwise hard to get to anchorages.

Once you’ve seen one, Bente yachts are unmistakable. We revisited the brand’s first boat, the Bente 24 , a couple of issues ago, which has been around for 10 years or so. The brand then launched the striking Bente 39 which was immensely innovative, but the company ran into financial difficulties. Now under new owners and a more stable footing, a third model has been launched, which I can’t wait to test sail. The Bente 28 is unlike any other 28-footer.

The hull is cutting edge with wide transom, double rudders and full bows providing a powerful hull form as well as volume below. Construction is polyester GRP foam sandwich, with the basic version being heavier hand lamination, and the more expensive Edition version being vacuum infused. While this is a boat designed to be fast, it’s a long way from a wild racing boat.

Displacement is a not outlandish 3.2 tonnes and draught is 1.6m (there’s an option for a 1.95m performance T-keel with lead bulb that’s 100kg lighter), so it fits well within the scope of a sensible cruising boat.

The Tide 25, built by MFH in north Germany – began its life as a Dehler SQ25, but the mould was sold off when that company hit hard times. Plumb bows and stern with a long hull chine, bevelled deck edge and twin rudders put her on trend, and maximise performance under sail and accommodation on board.

On deck, she has a large cockpit with benches forward and four decent lockers. Under the cockpit sole there’s access to what would be engine space for a diesel inboard, now housing batteries for the electric motors.

Opt for the sport version, and you’ll get beefed up deck hardware and a minimalist fit out, with the mainsheet traveller across the transom, while the comfort version has a smaller main with the mainsheet coming to a fixed point on the cockpit sole forward of the helm. The rig has aft-swept spreaders and no backstay.

weekend yacht

The fact that the accommodation of the Pointer 30 is designed around a Nespresso machine, enshrined in glory, tells you a lot about this boat. It was conceived as a comfortable, fast and stylish weekend cruiser that you can take your friends down to for a coffee before a nice sail to somewhere for lunch. This is a boat that knows what it is about. Tea drinkers, don’t worry; there’s still a gas hob to boil a kettle.

The sail area isn’t vast, but this looks to be an easily driven hull. A below-deck furler setting a genoa that sheets to tracks on the coachroof is standard, with a self-tacker being optional.

The fixed bowsprit houses a bow roller, and a tack point for furling offwind sails – the gennaker takes her offwind sail area up to 100m2, set from an aluminium twin-spreader rig with adjustable backstay. She has a powerful kicker, but no traveller for the main, which is sheeted to a raised plinth in the cockpit sole.

Below deck the layout is simple, clean and quietly stylish. Headroom is restricted, dictated by the low freeboard and elegant lines.

To port, the heart of the boat is the ‘coffee bar’ on a shelf in the moulded hull liner, next to a small dinette-style table with two leather swivel armchairs. The forward of these chairs spins round to face a neat lift-top desk (though the drawer below isn’t large enough for a chart).

Swallow Yachts 32

Aimed at sailors who may have owned larger yachts before but want to downsize, Swallow Yachts owner Matt Newland explained that he ‘wanted to build a boat that was fun and easy to sail, simple to maintain and had timeless looks with as low an environmental impact as possible.’

Though not a true launch-and-sail trailer sailer, a four-by-four will still be able to tow the 32 on her own trailer, as boat and trailer come in at under 3.5 tonnes, and within the 2.9m overhang limit.

With a keel-down draught of 2.8m, a fine entry at the bow and broad aft sections, this boat promises to be a good performer. You can sail with the lifting keel in any position for shoal waters, but lift it all the way and you’ve got a draught of just 40cm for creek crawling and drying out.

Newland has tried to draw lines that are timeless rather than trendy while a retractable bowsprit, backstayless carbon rig and square-top mainsail ensure she is right up there in terms of her contemporary design and latest tech.

  • Caribbean Yacht Charter

A Caribbean yachting vacation incorporates vast expanses of crystalline waters and endless clusters of idyllic paradisical islands, making for a picture-perfect family getaway. With its beautiful climate and spectacular coastlines that comprise iconic superyacht hotspots like the  Virgin Islands ,  St Barts  and  Antigua , a yacht rental in the Caribbean has an alluringly evergreen appeal.

Caribbean Yacht Booking Guide:

Caribbean Yacht Charters: At a Glance

Are the bahamas and the caribbean the same thing, popular destinations for yacht rentals in the caribbean, popular sub-regions in the caribbean, highlights of a caribbean yacht charter, who goes on a caribbean yacht charter, history and culture, types of yacht charters in the caribbean, how much does it cost to charter a yacht in the caribbean, when is the best time for caribbean yacht charters, where should i begin my caribbean yacht charter, popular marinas and moorings in the caribbean, how to book your yacht charter in the caribbean.

The Caribbean Sea comprises more than 7,000 islands, islets, reefs and cays, and is divided into three island arcs: that of the Greater Antilles in the north, the Lesser Antilles in the south, and the Leeward Antilles to the east.

Tropical islands of the Caribbean

  • Ideal winter destination Boasting all-year-round pleasant weather, its powdery sand beaches and alluringly clear waters make it an especially popular choice for winter yacht charters.
  • Easy-to-reach The Caribbean is well-connected to the US, with a high number of international airports flying directly into the region.
  • Secluded anchorages With more than 7,000 islands and only a small percentage being inhabited, the world is your oyster when it comes to finding serenely beautiful anchorages.
  • Snorkeling and diving paradise The Caribbean is home to some of the world's most impressive snorkeling and diving sites, meaning plenty of exciting underwater adventures where your eyes will be wide with wonder.
  • Excellent superyacht marinas The Caribbean has numerous well-provisioned superyacht marinas to take your pick from, many of which have fantastic dining and shopping opportunities.

7 of the best beaches in the Virgin Islands

While the Bahamas is technically part of the Caribbean region, it is an island nation in its own right, forming part of the Lucayan Archipelago in the Atlantic. That said, the Caribbean is a vast area occupied by thousands of islands, coral reefs and islets, of which the Bahamas forms a part, along with strong political and cultural ties that have created a natural bond with its Caribbean neighbour.

Practically speaking, however, if you are interested in cruising  the Bahamas  in conjunction with your Caribbean yacht charter, it is highly unlikely you'll be able to manage the distance during a typical 7-day charter, especially for itineraries that incorporate East Caribbean destinations such as Antigua and Saint Martin. You will need to decide which destination you prefer to spend your time in, or extend your charter vacation to incorporate both.

To find out more about chartering in the region, check out our in-depth Bahamas destination guide for more information.

Tropical beach in the Pitons, St Lucia in the Caribbean

The most popular destinations for renting a yacht in the Caribbean are those located in the Lesser Antilles region, primarily the island groups of the Leeward Islands.  and the  Windward Islands .

For Leeward Island yacht rentals , Antigua, the Virgin Islands, St Martin, St Barts and St Kitts and Nevis garner the most attention, thanks to not only their splendid tropical landscapes but also their extremely well-provisioned superyacht marinas, fine dining options, impossibly hip bars and medley of designer boutiques bound to keep guests entertained from dawn till dusk.

Scattered like pearls along the aquamarine seas, you'll find sun-drenched Martinique, gorgeous Grenada and the ultra-secluded St Vincent and the Grenadines  are the top picks for slow-paced  Windward Island yacht charters .

Although not as popular, the islands that form the Greater Antilles , such as Jamaica, Cuba and Puerto Rico , are just as beautiful and offer an array of spectacular destinations to explore and discover on a luxury yacht charter.

10 top spas to enjoy on a Caribbean yacht charter

Looking for the best superyacht hotspots in the Caribbean? These are the spellbinding locations guests find most enticing. If you are interested in any of these cruising grounds, we strongly advise booking as far in advance as possible.

  • Antigua: the jet-set adore its unbelievable scenery, intriguing historical landmarks, lavish shopping options and a cluster of ivory-white sands coupled with gin-clear waters.
  • St Martin/Sint Maarten : French and Dutch sides of the island combine to bring a fascinating fusion of influences, replete with outstanding diving spots and awe-inspiring topography.
  • St Lucia : considered the tropical jewel of the Windward Islands, it's virtually unspoiled. Bordered by lush rainforest and dark volcanic sands, it makes for a truly unique anchorage spot.
  • Grenada : known as the Isle of Spice thanks to being one of the world's largest exporters of mace and nutmeg, its capital St George is regularly called the Caribbean's most picture-perfect town.
  • St Barts : Well-known for its moniker "St Moritz of the Caribbean" due to its unique Swedish-French colonial heritage, this iconic tiny island is synonymous with glamour, movie stars and designer shopping.
  • St Croix, US Virgin Islands : The largest of the USVIs boasts a National Park, breath-taking scenic beauty and some of the best dive spots in the Caribbean.
  • Puerto Rico : Affectionately known locally as the ‘island of enchantment’, Puerto Rico is a profusion of vibrant Latin culture entwined with the laid back rhythm of the Caribbean, with pristine beaches, excellent diving spots and exquisite local dishes.

How to spend 24 hours in St Barts on a Caribbean yacht charter

A family stroll down a wooden pontoon over a turquoise sea with a sailing yacht in the distance

For anyone looking to get a dose of serious sunshine during the Northern Hemisphere winter, a yacht charter in the Caribbean is a seriously enticing prospect, with St Barts being the clear favorite for Christmas and New Year's Eve, thanks to the showstopping celebrations that take place in Gustavia Harbour.

For avid island hoppers, the Windward islands offer an enchanting itinerary full of sun-kissed isles and laid back charm juxtaposed with chic resorts and heavenly French-based cuisine, not to mention unrivalled vistas and sultry sunsets accompanied by warm rum-laced winds.

Across all Caribbean destinations, keen divers and snorkelers will be in for a subaquatic treat, and you'll find a wide range of designer boutiques and ultra-high-end resorts peppered across the isles wherever you go.

A dancer wearing a lavish costume of peacock feathers

The Caribbean is a mesmerizing melting pot of cultures and influences, rooted in its rich heritage and undeniably shaped by its history of colonization and waves of immigration. Each island group is highly diverse in terms of its language, music, customs, architecture and cuisine, but it's mainly English, Dutch, French or Spanish colonial influences that are keenly felt. While the mix of languages spoken will differ between island groups, English is widely spoken.

Caribbean cuisine sees influences from Africa, Europe, Latin America and Spain, Meat, seafood, coconut, potatoes, beans and tomatoes tend to feature heavily in local dishes.

Locals are friendly and regularly celebrate their culture, with music, food and wildly colorful festivals held throughout the year.

A luxury yacht rental vacation in the Caribbean is, without doubt, the most sublime way to experience this region, giving you exclusive access to heavenly anchorages that are otherwise impossible to reach or are far from the typical tourist trail.

Guests have boundless fleet options when it comes to a crewed Caribbean charter. If you don't know whether to go for a motor yacht, sailing yacht or catamaran to cruise Caribbean waters, we've laid out the main points worth considering.

Motor Yacht Charters in the Caribbean

Large Super Yachts moored in a marina in the Caribbean

A  luxury motor yacht charter  in the Caribbean is a seven-star way of uncovering the epic beauty of the Caribbean in total privacy.

For regions with minimal water depth the ideal choice is a motor yacht with low draft, perfect for accessing shallow lagoons and secluded bays.

For those who have their heart set on a superyacht without a shallow draft, dropping anchor further out into deeper waters and then getting a tender ride ashore, so you can get up close and personal to exquisite island reefs and blue lagoons, is the preferred option.

Sailing Yacht Charters in the Caribbean

Yachts in Antigua, Caribbean

Chartering a sailing yacht in the Caribbean is ideal for guests looking for a slower pace to fully lap up the Caribbean rays with more outdoor deck space, and add a little old-school charm to their cruising adventure.

Even better, the majority of sailing charter yachts come equipped with a retractable keel, meaning reaching turquoise shallows is a breeze. But, if you are keen to charter a larger sailing yacht, keep in mind that some may still find their draft too deep for some areas, even with the keel up.

Catamaran Charters in the Caribbean

Catamarans in the Caribbean

Luxury catamaran charters are a firm guest favourite for those embarking on Caribbean vacation, especially in the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands. Thanks to their shallow draft, catamarans give you the ability to get close to cays and islets guests can savor the thrilling feeling of being able to jump off-board at almost any point.

The charter cost of a motor yacht, sailing yacht or luxury catamaran rental in the Caribbean will vary according to the vessel's size, age, type, number of crew, as well as the location and duration of the vacation as well as the season it takes place.

With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget. For convenience we have listed the average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in the Caribbean below;

  • For motor yacht rentals in the Caribbean, prices can range from $39,167 to $1.4m per week, plus expenses
  • For luxury sailing yacht rentals in the Caribbean, prices can go from $29,855 to $276,495 weekly, plus expenses

Caribbean beach at sunset

The best time for luxury yacht charters in the Caribbean is between November and March, when guests can expect clement weather and vividly blue cloudless skies.

Another aspect to keep in mind is that this is also the time when you will have the largest selection of yachts to choose from, as most charter yachts descend on the Caribbean around November after the Mediterranean season has ended and any yacht maintenance has been carried out, before returning back to the Mediterranean in March/April.

Port de Gustavia in St Barts, Caribbean

The most popular starting point for a Caribbean yacht rental is usually in either Saint Martin/Sint Maarten or  Antigua,  both of which have international airports.

It is certainly possible to begin your charter in other Caribbean destinations, providing this has been agreed with the Owner and charter broker .

Where to End a Caribbean Yacht Charter

For most private Caribbean yacht charters, there isn't one definitive place where to disembark given the vastness of the region. However, what is likely is that you will finish your yacht rental vacation in the same location that you started. For example, the majority of  British Virgin Island yacht charters will begin and end in St Thomas, while for Antigua yacht charters , it'll be the iconic English Harbour.

Yachts moored in a marina in the Caribbean

The Caribbean offers some of the most spellbinding berthing spots in the world. These tropical, barefoot hotspots are of the finest calibre, surrounded by jaw-dropping scenery, and often feature award-winning restaurants, hip boutiques, beach bars and more.

But which marinas are the best? Below are some charter favorites:

  • Falmouth Harbour, Antigua: impressive marina facilities and scenery, catering to yachts up to 100m.
  • Marina Fort Louis, Saint Martin: offers 150 berths for yachts up to 79m.
  • Crown Bay in St Thomas (USVI): full-serviced marina with 99 slips, including 16 berths for superyachts up to 60m
  • Port Louis Marina, Grenada: idyllically located, with 227 moorings for yachts up to 91m.
  • Port de Gustavia, Saint Barts: widely regarded as one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the world, accommodating up to 152 yachts up to 152m.
  • Puerto Del Rey, Puerto Rico : conveniently located as a jumping off point for yacht charters incorporating the Virgin Islands and Lesser Antilles, this marina has plentiful wet slips, including capacity for yachts up to 200ft (60m) LOA.

Falmouth Harbour in the Caribbean

We strongly advise booking through a qualified  yacht charter broker at least three months in advance for all Caribbean yacht charters. By doing so, you will increase the likelihood of securing your preferred dates and you will have a greater selection of yachts on offer to choose from.

This also ensures your yacht broker has enough time to craft a carefully curated itinerary and secure an overnight berth in the most popular Caribbean marinas.

Caribbean Yacht Charter Q&A

The best time to visit the Caribbean is generally December to April, when it's a little cooler and less humid. But the best month to visit can differ depending on the island, budget and interests you have. For example, some yacht charter guests may decide to visit May to June and late November, when weather is still fantastic but there are fewer crowds.

We advise booking your Caribbean yacht rental at least three months in advance to ensure you get the yacht you desire. The longer you leave it, the fewer choices you will have to rent in the Caribbean.

For your Caribbean superyacht charter, you will need to provide a completed charter agreement and 50% of the charter fee as a deposit. This is payable once the contract has been signed.

When booking a Caribbean yacht rental, do keep in mind the costs that aren't included in the base rate, namely VAT and the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). The APA is usually paid in advance of the charter and is commonly set at 30% of the charter fee. This allowance covers expenses such as fuel, berthing, food and drinks, as well as any special requests.

Please consult your yacht charter broker for any other costs you may need to factor in for your yacht charter in the Caribbean.

14 Great Pocket Cruisers in 2023

  • By Victor Tan
  • Updated: July 20, 2023

Pocket cruisers and mini yachts are generally vessels under 50 feet in length overall, and can include express cruiser designs, flybridge yachts as well as either monohull or catamaran hull forms. They are cruising boats easily handled by a small, or even shorthanded, crew. Pocket cruisers generally have wave-taming hull designs and have the ability to take on sporty seas, offer comfortable accommodations belowdecks with one or two staterooms for extended voyages, “homelike amenities,” and the ability to cruise as slowly or as quickly as an owner desires with inboard- and outboard-power options. These pocket-cruising boats have the range for longer voyages , can pull up in skinny water at the sandbar thanks to shallow drafts, and head over the horizon where cruising adventure awaits. Pocket cruisers are true multitasking yachts. When it comes to family and couples cruising, it’s hard to beat a well-built and well-equipped and pocket cruiser.

Best Cruising Boats Under 50-Feet

The following 14 pocket cruisers and mini yachts are all vessels we’ve seen, been aboard, and tested. They are listed in no particular order.

  • Hood 35 LM: high-tech, family-friendly pocket cruiser
  • Galeon Yachts 375 GTO: mid-size boat with plenty of below-deck space
  • Aquila 42: sleek power catamaran ready to entertain
  • Azimut Verve 42 : small, yet mighty yacht ready for open water
  • Hinckley Yachts 35: luxury picnic cruiser with range
  • Beneteau Gran Turismo 45: sleek cruising yacht with all the amenities
  • Solaris Power 48 Open: eye-catching power yacht with 360-degree views
  • Cruisers Yachts 42 GLS: luxury cruiser yacht with powerful outboard options
  • Back Cove 34O: modern outboard power combined with classic Downeast styling
  • Picnic Boat 40: speedy and fuel-efficient vessel with great looks
  • Aquila 36: comfortably seat up to 20 guests for fun on the salt
  • Boston Whaler 350 Realm: multitasker built for fishing and entertaining
  • MJM 35z: sporty, aesthetically pleasing, cruising-conscious features and elegant lines
  • Greenline 39: sturdy-looking lines and environmentally-friendly power

When Android co-founder, Rich Miner, wanted a new family-friendly pocket cruiser , he turned to a custom-penned C.W. Hood design and a Lyman-Morse-built 35-footer, which has a timeless Down East profile matched to seriously modern technology under the hood.

This yacht looks like a traditional, cold-molded Down East dayboat, but actually, it has everything, from Hamilton HJX Series water-jet drives to a planned Sea Machines autonomous command-and-control system . Top speed: 40-plus knots.

Galeon Yachts 375 GTO

Even the remnants of Hurricane Ian, couldn’t dissuade the Galeon Yacht 375 GTO from its cruising mission. The small yacht’s wave-splitting hull form is paired to torque-filled 600 hp Mercury Verado outboards , giving this fun-in-the-sun boat a 47-knot top hop.

The 375 GTO is a speedster, to be sure, but it’s also so much more. Just about every aspect of the main deck seating is transformable and multifunction, from the aft seating to the alfresco dining abaft the helm, and beyond. It also has a family-size and eminently cruise-worthy belowdecks space for four guests, all while providing a foredeck entertaining lounge too.

The Galeon Yachts 375 GTO ticks all the boxes for an easy-to-handle and sporty cruiser.

Aquila 42 Yacht Power Catamaran

Following the success of its 44-, 54- and 70-foot power catamaran models, Aquila has launched the stable-as-a-table, owner-operator-ready Aquila 42 Yacht Power Catamaran .

The Aquila 42 is the entry point into the builder’s yacht line and is noteworthy for its ability to accommodate anywhere from a two- to four-stateroom layout, depending on the owner’s cruising requirements. There are alfresco spaces to manage the sunset cruise with friends and family, including a foredeck lounge area that can be accessed via centerline steps from the flybridge. The Aquila 42 is available with several Volvo Penta diesel-engine options .

Azimut Verve 42

Want to cruise from Florida to Bimini in about an hour? The Azimut Yachts Verve 42 can do that thanks, in part, to triple 450 hp Mercury Racing outboards and a hull designed to dice-and-slice a seaway. Top hop: 45 knots. The Verve 42 also has style for miles with a fine entry, raked hardtop, and a razorlike sheerline accented by sweeping hull glass from bow to stern. It’s striking.

With accommodation for a family of four, the Verve 42 is also solid under the hull tokeep everyone safe on those passages. The Verve 42’s hull is built of fiberglass and uses vinylester resins for blister protection. The yacht’s deck and hardtop are comprised of carbon fiber for strength without added weight. This all means that the Azimut Verve 42 is built to CE Classification Type A , making it suitable for sea voyages where winds can exceed 45 mph and seas to 13 feet.

Hinckley Yachts 35

The Hinckley Yachts 35 takes everything that yachtsmen like about this pedigreed-brand’s classic profile and infuses today’s modern outboard power to create 40 knots of sheer fun wrapped in sheer luxury.

This 35-foot Hinckley is built on a Michael-Peters-penned hull form with a fine entry, wider-than-average chines and a moderate deadrise. While the boat is built to sprint when desired, it’s also a relatively economical cruiser. For instance, a comfortable 24-knot cruise the Hinckley Yachts 35 has a 276-nautical-mile range.

It also has a tech-build thanks to vacuum-infused carbon-fiber composites and epoxy resin. An integrated interior structure is infused with the hull adding rigidity. The hull is then post-cured in an 80-foot oven, further strengthening the structure.

Beneteau Gran Turismo 45

The Beneteau Gran Turismo is the flagship of the builder’s four-model GT series, which also includes 32-, 36- and 41-foot models.

The Gran Turismo 45 ’s cruise-centric layout includes two staterooms and two heads belowdecks, as well as a galley down. There is also a dinette for meals and a settee for rainy-day lounging. Entertaining guests and enjoying the sun is the primary mission of the main deck.

Solaris Power 48 Open

The Solaris Power 48 Open was the first powerboat from this longtime builder known for its sailing yachts, ranging from 40 to 110 feet length overall. The Solaris Power 48 Open is notable for its wave-slicing plumb-bow design, high freeboard forward and 32-knot-plus speed. Power is twin 480 hp Volvo Penta IPS650 diesels.

The high freeboard keeps the deck dry and help creates sizable volume belowdecks with an average 6-foot-6-inch headroom. This enables real estate for either one or two staterooms. With the single-stateroom setup, there is a forepeak master stateroom while an L-shaped settee converts to sleeping accommodations for family or occasional guests. Interior wood options are oak or walnut.

Cruisers Yachts 42 GLS

Outboard-power cruising aficionados will appreciate the triple-engine options for the Cruisers Yachts 42 GLS . The 42 GLS we got aboard had the triple 400 hp Mercury Verados , which produced a top hop of 45 knots, but triple 450 hp Verados are available. Triple 350 hp Mercury Verados are the standard engine option. No matter the power arrangement, this express cruiser can easily be used for wakeboarding and tube towing. The 42 GLS is designed to handle the rough stuff too, with a fine entry and 21-degree transom deadrise.

For cruising enthusiasts, the 42 GLS has a master stateroom with an athwartships and a nearly queen-size berth, and the lower salon’s U-shaped dinette converts to a queen-size berth for the kids.

Back Cove 34O

Combining modern outboard power with classic Downeast styling, the Back Cove 34O touts award-winning standards with cruising in mind. The 34O is equipped with twin 300 hp Yamaha outboards, engines that allow the Newport International Boat Show’s 2018 Best Powerboat Under 35 Feet winner to travel up to 214 nautical miles at 24 knots on a 250-gallon fuel tank.

Belowdecks, the 34O has an island double berth and a split-head arrangement with the toilet to port and a separate shower stall to starboard. On the main deck, a U-shape dinette to port accommodates four or more guests on the Back Cove Yachts vessel. The 34O’s galley is equipped with a Cuisinart microwave, a two-burner Kenyon electric cooktop and a Vitrifrigo fridge and freezer.

Picnic Boat 40

Hinckley Yachts unveiled its first Picnic Boat more than two decades ago. Now, after two previous, sub-40-foot models, the Maine-based boatbuilder has developed its largest and most advanced model to date: the Picnic Boat 40.

Twin 480 hp Cummins diesel engines paired to twin Hamilton 322 jet drives propel the yacht to a 30-knot cruising speed and 34 knots on the pins. With optional twin 550 hp Cummins diesels, cruise and top-end speeds jump to 35 and 38 knots, respectively.

There is an L-shaped settee with a table and a wet bar on the main deck to port. The helm station is forward and to starboard with a benchseat for two. There is also a companion seat across from the helm. Belowdecks, there is 6-foot-2-inch headroom, and the dinette table drops to form a California-king berth for overnights and weekending.

Aquila Power Catamarans started its line with 44- and 48-footers, and now the builder’s Aquila 36 takes the line into the midsize market.

The 36 features a single, main-living area from bow to stern, helped in part by the vessel’s 14-foot, 7-inch beam. The boat can comfortably seat up to 20 guests for fun on the salt. Several Mercury Verado engine options are available for the Aquila 36, including twin 250-, 300- and 350-hp four-strokes. With the 350s, the Aquila has a top-end speed of 37 knots.

Other notable features include a fiberglass hardtop, a dinette, a cooktop, a fridge, a sink and a smokeless grill. Belowdecks, there are two staterooms with nearly queen-size berths, en suite heads and 6-foot-6-inch headroom in each.

Boston Whaler 350 Realm

From fishing and entertaining guests to diving and overnight cruising, Boston Whaler ‘s 350 Realm is a multitasker. And it’s fast, too. It’s powered with either triple 300 hp or triple 350 hp Mercury Verados. The 350 Realm can reach a top speed of 46 knots.

At the helm, two Raymarine displays provide vital navigation data. The captain can take in the displays’ view from a doublewide helm seat. There’s a flip-down platform for standing when needed and a footrest when desired.

There is a V-shaped berth that converts into a double berth with a filler cushion. The separated head has a VacuFlush MSD and a hot-and-cold shower. Owners also have the option to add a microwave and a flat-screen TV.

The MJM 35z can reach a top speed of 44 knots and a cruising speed of 33 knots on its optional 350 hp Mercury Verado outboards; twin 300 hp outboards are standard on this MJM Yachts vessel. Additionally, the 35z can travel up to 304 nautical miles on its 250-gallon fuel tank.

The 35z has a flush-deck layout and to port is space for an electric grill, a baitwell, a sink, an ice maker and a fridge. There are two Stidd helm seats—one for the helmsman and the other for a copilot—that rotate to face the rest of the seating aft. In the cabin is V-shaped seating forward that can be converted to a berth.

Owners also have the option of adding a Seakeeper 3 gyrostabilizer and a full-length Bimini top to shade the cockpit.

Greenline 39

Greenline Yachts ‘ vessels are aptly named for their environmentally friendly means of moving about; the Greenline 39 is no different. The Slovenian yacht manufacturer produces two types of this model: hybrid and solar.

If owners opt for the latter, the 39’s four solar panels atop the salon power all of the vessel’s systems for three hours. With the power of the sun, the 39 can achieve a max speed of 6.5 knots and a cruising speed of 4 knots. The hybrid type uses those same panels to help power a 220 hp Volvo Penta D3 with a Mahle electric-drive system. Owners have the option of replacing the standard engine with a 370 hp Yanmar 8LV diesel.

Belowdecks, scissor berths provide accommodations for long weekends.

The sweetest driver and the most amazing relaxing time. We didn't have to worry about anything. Really throughly enjoyed our time. We drove to San Francisco to a wedding, my aunts and uncles are older and it's hard for them to see in long drives outside of our city. This was a treat! It was around 30+ of us. Super friendly customer service, everything was easy and smooth. The bus was clean as a whistle and we were able to play our own music. Bluetooth connected, waters and a TV! We brought our own snacks and a little bit of wine, we had a blast.

We rented a party bus for my husband and I's 30th and it was incredible! Mark was awesome and made sure we all got there and back safely, and we got sooo many compliments from our friends that came. Plenty of space, super clean ride and overall just a great time! Definitely recommend!

Mark was a great help and made sure the day went smoothly for us. I would recommend him and his services. Thank you!

I had my senior ball on 5/5 and Mark was amazing! I found him on yelp and had messaged him starting from February because I knew how crazy prom season would be. I copied part of the message he sent me for the quote I asked for: "The following land yacht is available for your 6 hour (5:45p-11:45p) event on the date you've requested.  30-36 passenger - $1,695.00 Our prices INCLUDE ALL FEES AND CHAUFFEUR'S GRATUITY, as well as complimentary ice and bottled water." I had 32 people on my bus and we all had enough space! The water was definitely awesome for the end of the night but Mark was so responsible and got us to SF city hall on time and safely. He was so quick at replying to my messages and I have had looked into many other places and this was the most accommodating and reasonably priced. Highly recommend !!

Our group had an amazing time! Mark arrived on time to pick us up and the bus was clean and spacious. The bathroom on board was an added plus. The pricing is very favorable to other companies and the bus has everything you need. I wish I had taken pictures of the interior because the other photos on here don't do it justice. There's also a TV that you can stream to. We ended up extending our reservation an hour because we didn't want it to end. We will definitely be using Mark again in the future.

First class experience from pickup, journey, to drop off. Our chauffeur Kelvin provided us with a safe and wonderful experience to make for a good time. Will definitely be hiring this company for future corporate events and celebrations. Keep up your good work. Thank you.

I had my 40th birthday bash and Mark was amazing. Bus was very clean and roomy with a bathroom which was a plus. Hands down, book with Pacific Land Yachts if you are looking for a party bus. Would definitely do business again!

Mark is pretty darn awesome! We chartered his land yacht for a work event. Everyone had an amazing time, and everyone said that they would definitely want to work with Mark again for both future and personal events that require group transportation. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!

I rented a bus for my brothers 30th birthday and it was an unforgettable night! The bus was in great condition and so much bigger than I imagined. It even had a restroom which was helpful because we had it reserved for 5 hours. The driver was fantastic and let us blast our music and dance the whole time. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a good time!!

Great driver. Smooth sailing for a large group of 30+! Very nice clean bus (with a bathroom!!) We had such a great time. I can't wait to do it again.

The search for a sailor who went missing when a yacht overturned off the Queensland coast has ended in tragedy after his body was recovered.

Police said the 65-year-old man had been travelling on the yacht from Yeppoon to Brisbane when an EPIRB was activated about four nautical miles south of Lady Elliot Island about 5am Sunday.

The vessel was found shortly after 10:15am with two men in the water.

RACQ LifeFlight said the father and son had managed to climb onto the upside-down vessel to raise the alarm.

They were winched into a rescue helicopter.

"It's believed the keel snapped on the boat the men were on, causing it to overturn," LifeFlight said in a media release.

Police said a 62-year-old man and 27-year-old man were taken to Bundaberg Hospital where they remained in a stable condition.

They said the body of the 65-year-old man was found shortly after 2pm.

Police said all three men were from Yeppoon.

We spent $20,980 to see the Formula 1 Grand Prix live. The luxury yacht party and epic balcony views weren't even the best parts.

  • My fiancé and I splurged on a trip to Monaco for our very first Formula 1 Grand Prix.
  • For about $20,980, we stayed in Nice, France , and attended the races all weekend.
  • We also attended a luxurious yacht party and soaked in views of Monaco during the race.

Insider Today

My fiancé and I saved up to celebrate our recent engagement in style during one of the year's most iconic, expensive weekends: the Formula 1 (F1) Monaco Grand Prix.

The F1 Monaco Grand Prix is an annual race for drivers in the highest class of international racing for single-seater formula cars.

Though the sport is popular in Europe, it gained the attention of international audiences with the release of Netflix's Formula 1 documentary series, "Drive to Survive." In a 2022 poll from Morning Consult , 53% of nearly 1,900 F1 fans said the series contributed to their interest in the sport.

However, we've been dedicated F1 fans long before the series launched in 2019, and have always considered the Monaco Grand Prix the best race on the calendar.

Like many fans, we were willing to splurge to see some of our favorite drivers and were excited to attend the event this past May. We purchased a package from F1 Experiences for £15,220, or about $19,370, with a $1,610 yacht party add-on. The package for my partner and me included a hotel stay , two days of live racing, and transportation to and from the event.

From an unbelievable balcony view of the racetrack to cheering on a historic win, here's what the experience was like.

We stayed at a hotel in Nice, France.

weekend yacht

We stayed four nights at the Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée on the French Riviera, a 30-to-40-minute drive from Monaco.

Our hotel-room balcony overlooked the stunning Côte d'Azur region, and we were within walking distance of Nice's historic and charming old town.

We prepared for the high-energy weekend by celebrating at a yacht party.

To fully experience the glamorous lifestyle in Monaco, we indulged in a yacht party on Friday night. This experience was an add-on to our overall package, and it cost £1,265, or about $1,610.

We boarded the boat and were greeted with glasses of Champagne. The bottomless drinks and canapés flowed as the onboard DJ pumped music, drowning out the sounds of nearby boats.

As dusk turned to nightfall, the partygoers seemed to buzz with anticipation for the excitement the weekend had to offer — and we couldn't wait.

On Saturday, I was excited to finally attend the main event, the Grand Prix.

On Saturday, we boarded a coach bus to Monaco and headed to the Ermanno Penthouse to watch the race. There, we climbed up 12 flights of stairs for a taste of Monégasque luxury.

The Penthouse's balcony terrace — overlooking the Port Hercules marina, stacked with at least 250 yachts — gave us an unbelievable panoramic view of Monaco's shimmering blue coastline and at least two-thirds of the racetrack.

From our viewpoint, we could see the start and finish line, up the hill toward the Casino de Monte-Carlo, the racetrack's tunnel exit, around the marina, and even the champions' podium.

We felt the thrill of the race from our balcony.

Saturday's qualifying session was electrifying. Throughout the day, we saw the Formula 3 and Formula 2 sprint races, which typically feature aspiring F1 drivers . Then, we saw the F1 free practice three, which served as a practice round for F1 drivers to fine-tune their skills.

Lastly, we saw the F1 qualifying race, which determined each driver's place on the grid for Sunday's event.

I did notice, however, that my fiancé and I seemed to be two of the very few true F1 fans on the balcony. Many of our neighbors appeared to be new to the sport and seemed more interested in selfies or sparkling wine.

We enjoyed food and drinks as well.

weekend yacht

Not only could we see much of Monaco from the balcony, but also we enjoyed warm hospitality from the staff.

The staff members served various snacks and offered as much Champagne, spirits, and soft drinks as we wanted. For breakfast, we had croissants and pain au chocolat with coffee, followed by finger sandwiches, sliders, canapés, and tasty desserts.

We even had a few celebrity sightings.

weekend yacht

Celebrating the same event as A-list celebrities like John Legend , Anya Taylor-Joy, and Kylian Mbappé felt like a real pinch-me moment — though we only caught glimpses of them in the VIP area on TV screens showing sports coverage, the same way viewers would see them on television.

The celebrities at the Grand Prix, which took place just after the star-studded Cannes Film Festival, made it feel like the spot to be.

We saw a race-car collision from our balcony.

weekend yacht

Unfortunately, the weekend wasn't all positive. During the first lap of Sunday's F1 race, we saw a massive crash involving several drivers who couldn't continue in the event.

On a more positive note, we saw our favorite driver win the Grand Prix.

weekend yacht

The highlight of the weekend was cheering Ferrari F1 driver and Monégasque Charles Leclerc on to his first-ever victory at the Monaco Grand Prix.

As Leclerc's bright-red Ferrari zoomed by with a clear lead on his last lap, a symphony of boats blared their horns, and the crowd erupted in cheers. Leclerc is also the first Monégasque driver to win the race in over 90 years.

We watched the Champagne showers and celebrations on the podium, and my fiancé and I shared a kiss (and a few happy tears). It was the perfect end to an unforgettable weekend.

Overall, we were so glad we got to attend the Monaco Grand Prix.

weekend yacht

Overall, attending the Grand Prix in person was worth the money for us. We saw our favorite driver achieve a historic F1 milestone on a legendary track along a beautiful European coastline.

Though I wouldn't say it's worth the splurge for those who don't follow F1, plenty of guests on our balcony were there for the vibes, the flowing drinks, and the lush atmosphere.

We'd consider attending another F1 Grand Prix in the future. Still, our first taste of Monaco had our hearts racing — and the experience will be incredibly tough to top.
