HOLLYWOOD superstar Tom Cruise is staying aboard an incredible £32million super yacht as he holidays in Cornwall.

The 59-year-old’s incredible vessel - called the Triple Seven - was spotted sailing into the bay at Penzance last night as the actor travels around the stunning coastline.

Tom is currently enjoying a break from shooting the latest Mission Impossible film at the Warner Bros Studios in Hertfordshire, and on location around the UK.

The 68 metre yacht can host up to 12 people, as well as 17 crew members to wait on his every need.

It features a huge waterslide, a jacuzzi and various outdoor dining spaces, depending on where Tom fancies his dinner. 

It is tastefully decorated inside with cream interiors and an impressively sized master bedroom.

Last month The Sun revealed that filming on the seventh installment of the film had ground to a halt once again after someone on set tested positive for coronavirus. 

Some people pointed their fingers at the leading man himself, claiming they hadn’t seen him on set since. 

An insider said: “Filming on Mission Impossible 7 is on hold again because of coronavirus. And this time, those working on the production have said they think Tom could be the possible cause of the postponement.

“Everyone on the set was told that filming was being stopped again because of a positive test. And since then, Tom hasn’t been on set once.

“Now people are speculating that he could have come into contact with the person who tested positive. And in some cases, people are even gossiping and saying it could be him.

Tom Cruise is reportedly holidaying on a £32 million super yacht off the coast of Cornwall.

The Hollywood superstar was spotting sailing into the bay in Penzance on Wednesday, with The Sun revealing how he was taking in the stunning coastline of south-west England.

Cornwall Live reported that a black Mercedes had driven Cruise away from the vessel when it finished its trip in Mevagissey Bay.

The 68-metre vessel, called the Triple Seven, can host up to 12 people and 17 crew members.

It also has its own water slide, jacuzzi, and various outdoor eating spaces, as well as an impressively sized master bedroom.

In recent weekends, the Top Gun actor has made full use of being based in England, taking in the Wimbledon singles tennis finals, the Euro 2020 football final at Wembley, and the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The 59-year-old is currently on a break from shooting the latest Mission Impossible film on location around the UK, including the Warner Bros Studios in Hertfordshire.

Last month, it was revealed filming on Mission Impossible 7 was halted due to coronavirus – and Tom Cruise has not returned since.

An insider told The Sun said: “Everyone on the set was told that filming was being stopped again because of a positive test. And since then, Tom hasn’t been on set once.”

In December 2020, an audio recording revealed how Cruise had told crew members to stick within the Covid-19 rules to prevent further hold-ups to production.

A superyacht previously used by Tom Cruise has docked in Leith , sparking rumours the Hollywood star could be in town.

The £33 million Triple Seven was spotted anchored off East Lothian yesterday after a few days floating in the Forth, but has since moored in the Capital , according to vessel logs.

Images of the boat, used by Cruise during time off from filming the latest instalment of the Mission Impossible franchise, have circulated online in the past few days.

It is currently unclear whether the 59-year-old is still on board or whether he has returned to Warner Bros studios in Hertfordshire to complete filming.

The yacht arrived in Leith at around 10:15pm on Tuesday evening having left Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands last week.

Triple Seven was built by German shipyard Nobiskrug in 2006, and underwent a maintenance refit in 2016.

The boat can host 12 guests within her six staterooms , cared for by a crew of 17. She is fully kitted-out with a water slide, jacuzzi, multiple alfresco dining areas and a lavish interior.

The yacht has a whole host of impressive features including a wake board, knee board, fishing equipment, kite surfers, surf-skis, jet skis, stand-up paddleboards, and an inflatable water park - amongst other things.

Hollywood star Tom Cruise's mega-yacht was reportedly spotted sailing around the Cornish coast as the actor enjoyed a break from filming Mission Impossible.

The 59-year-old actor, who is currently in the UK filming the latest instalment of the action saga, is making the most of the scorching British weather as he stayed aboard a yacht called the Triple Seven, which is said to be worth millions.

The enormous 65-metre vessel reportedly costs around £32 million and boasts 17 crew members and a host of exciting toys such as a huge slide and jet skis. There is even kite surfing equipment and stand-up paddleboards on the incredible yacht should Tom fancy even more adventure.

Onboard, there is also a jacuzzi and lots of gorgeous outdoor eating areas as well as several luxurious bedrooms to relax in. Inside the vessel, there are cream interiors and a stunning lounge area with sofas and pillows.

Although it is unclear who had joined Tom on the yacht, the vessel has enough space for 12 guests.

According to Cornwall Live , the actor was spotted on the yacht before stepping onto the shore and jumping into a Mercedes with blacked-out windows.

Tom has been hard at work in the UK where he has been filming lots of dramatic scenes that will form part of Mission Impossible.

He has also been spotted at lots of high-profile events in the country including Wimbledon and the Euros.

Mission Impossible 7 and 8 are being filmed back to back but unfortunately have faced major delays due to the ongoing global pandemic as the movies attempt to film scenes around the world.

In the latest setback, last month's filming was thrown into disarray when a crew member on set tested positive for Covid-19.

It meant that filming had to be halted for safety reasons.

An insider speaking to The Sun said at the time explained: "Filming on Mission Impossible 7 is on hold again because of coronavirus . And this time, those working on the production have said they think Tom could be the possible cause of the postponement.

The source added: “Everyone on the set was told that filming was being stopped again because of a positive test. And since then, Tom hasn’t been on set once."

It also came seven months after Tom was recorded furiously screaming at crew members and accusing them of jeopardizing the film industry after they failed to adhere to strict Covid health and safety rules.

Despite the setbacks, it is understood that Tom is desperate to get filming completed on time as the film industry struggles to bounce back from several lockdowns.

A glimpse of Tom Cruise 's rider, which he is holidaying on in Cornwall, has been revealed.

The crew of the Mission Impossible star's £32million super yacht were seen wading into the water to help load up on food and other goods for his time on the luxurious vessel on Friday.

As they were travelling while the tide was coming in, one crew member accidentally got her jeans wet after having to wade through the low waters to give a bag to another crew member.

According to  Cornwall Live , Cruise was brought to shore by Triple Seven in the early hours of the morning, before being 'whisked away' in a chaffeur-driven black Mercedes. 

The local publication also reported that a 'silhouetted figure' could be seen on deck at sunrise, however they were unable to confirm whether it was the actor himself. 

As well as filming MI:7 in the UK, Cruise's appearance comes after a film crew moved into a quarry in Wiltshire, with many residents spotting A-list celebs in the area. 

Triple Seven can be chartered for an eye-watering fee of £460,573 per-week, and was last known to be on the market for around £38,000,000 - before being sold recently to an anonymous buyer.

In the master suite the stylish and contemporary decor - which is believed to have been updated in 2014 - continues, with a huge bed covered in white bed linen and a beige leather chaise longues.

The boat sleeps up to 10 guests in five different rooms, including the stunning master suite, three double cabins, one twin cabin and two pullman beds (a bed that pulls down from the ceiling or folds out from the wall).

The outside living space is just as enviable, judging by the spacious hot tub which is submerged into the decking on the back of the luxurious yacht.

Tom has spent much of the last year in the UK filming the seventh instalment of the Mission Impossible franchise and has been pictured filming action-packed scenes in the Yorkshire Moors in recent months.

During his downtime, the screen star has also been pictured at several big events including Wimbledon and the Silverstone Grand Prix. 

He was also seen mingling with David Beckham at Wembley Stadium for the Euro 2020 final.

Last month, Mission: Impossible 7 filming has reportedly been paused again due to a positive Covid test with crew members speculating it could be Cruise.

Despite there being 'no proof' to back up the idle talk, it has been claimed that people are gossiping it could be Tom, due to his alleged absence on set.

INSIDE TRIPLE SEVEN 

• Built by German shipyard in 2006, Triple Seven underwent a maintenance refit in 2016.

• Triple Seven travels at a maximum speed of 17 knots and cruising at 14 knots thanks to her twin diesel engines.
• The vessel's last-known asking price was €38,000,000.

MailOnline contacted Mission Impossible film representatives for comment at the time.

It is not known whether Tom has received the Covid vaccine or not, although despite being proven to dramatically cut the risk of coronavirus, none of the jabs approved in Britain are 100 per cent effective.

It means some vaccinated people will inevitably get infected without having any symptoms, leaving them unaware they are infected and contagious — unless they get tested. 

In March, it was reported that Tom had  surprised NHS staff to thank them for working though the coronavirus pandemic.

The movie star is thought to have secretly visited the ExCel Centre in East London to 'pay personal tribute to frontline health staff'. 

A source told The Sun at the time: 'He told his team he wanted to pay his personal tribute to frontline health staff who have helped get movies back on track. 

'They were really shocked to see such a huge movie star. Tom wanted to keep it a secret and ensure it was a nice surprise for them.

'The world had heard his rant at crew on set and that proved just how seriously he has taken the pandemic.'

MailOnline contacted representatives for Tom Cruise and the ExCel Centre for further comment at the time. 

The ExCel Centre is a major vaccine centre with another part of the site being used for the NHS Nightingale Hospital's patient rehabilitation facility. 

Elsewhere it was claimed that Tom was reportedly in a rush to finish filming Mission: Impossible 7 in only three weeks. 

Thanks to several delays to the shooting schedule brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, there was said to be only 21 days left to get the film completed.

A source speaking to The Sun claimed: 'Without them, Tom will be left scratching around for replacements. And if that wasn't enough, he has his own scheduling conflicts.'

The source added that as Top Gun 2 is released in November, Tom will have to begin promotional work for the movie soon.

While the majority of the next Mission: Impossible is already filmed, there was said to be one final big scene to do that involved a speeding train being driven over the edge of a cliff.

First things first; let’s get the puns out of the way. Yes , Tom Cruise is back in Britain , filming the seventh instalment in the action-packed Mission:Impossible film franchise. Yes , he has decided to decamp to Cornwall and is spending his summer aboard a superyacht charter. And yes , that does mean that Cruise is on a cruise, that a crew’s cruising Cruise, etc. etc. etc.

But there’s more to the Hollywood A-lister’s summer holiday than cheap puns. Chiefly because Triple Seven — the sleek, stylish superyacht Cruise has chartered off the coast of Cornwall — sold in 2018 for a very un -cheap €45 million. So step on board below; and see what amenities the actor is enjoying this summer…

First up, where will Cruise be cruising his superyacht? For now, it’ll remain by Penzance, as he rejoins co-stars including Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames for his day job. But this is a boat who is just as happy motoring around the Med as she is exploring the deeper waters of the Pacific. Sure, she can handle remote waters; but she’ll be right at home in the French Riviera, too .

Custom built in 2006 by German shipyard Nobiskrug, she clocks in at 68 metres long. Her interiors are the last luxurious word in suave, elegant minimalism — less really is more, gents — and come courtesy of Newcruise Design.

And these interiors give way, in a seamless, natural manner, to the generous outdoor spaces. She’s in peak condition, too, having undergone a complete refit in 2014 — including a full repaint back in 2016.

And now to the good stuff: because Triple Seven really puts the ‘super’ into ‘superyacht’. Cruise’s latest charter is fully equipped for the current heatwave, with a beach club, a gym, a lounge and a fully-stocked bar — plus a teak-laid platform that’ll allow the stunt-happy actor to dive directly into the sea.

It doesn’t end there. There’s also a sun deck jacuzzi; and spa facilities including a steam room and bathing platform. And Cruise better be a watersport enthusiast — because Triple Seven comes with an inflatable kayak and eight paddle boards, as well as an inflatable slide, climbing wall, wakeboard, and both waterskis and kneeboards.

In addition to those water toys, there’s also wind-surfing equipment on board, four mountain bikes and fishing gear. There’s even six sets of diving equipment if Cruise wants to recreate his thrilling subaquatic scenes from previous Mission:Impossible films.

The vessel continues to defy expectations on-board. There’s a cinema in the luxury sky-lounge, and a beach barbecue set-up complete with an inflatable tent, sofas, teak table and director chairs. So, if Cruise wants to throw on a throw-back film whilst barbecuing on-board, he can flick on Top Gun while flipping burgers.

There are six cabins altogether, with room to sleep 12. This is a party yacht, that’s for sure (but Cruise should follow our day drinking guide if he’s planning to party away with co-stars under the Cornish sun…).

Thankfully, his master suite includes a separate office, bathroom and lots of sleepy hidden spaces perfect for recovering in the morning after the night before. There’s a hidden security closet, too; and ‘his and hers’ dressing areas separated by a Portuguese marble bath fit for an Oscar-nominee.

People think that a man who has been pictured on a boat in St Ives harbour is Tom Cruise.

Pictures show a man on a motorboat which has left many convinced it is the legendary Hollywood star.

People think the 59-year-old actor was pictured standing next to a man at the controls of the small motorboat at the resort at 7am on Friday.

Cruise is said to have arrived off the Cornish coast at Mevagissey on Wednesday on board the £32million superyacht Triple Seven.

There were reports that the star was brought ashore and left in a black Mercedes.

The yacht sailed away overnight and was seen at Penzance early on Thursday .

Marine tracking websites showed the yacht had rounded Land's End out to sea before arriving off St Ives on the north coast on Friday.

The Balcony Studio shared a photograph on its Twitter account of what some think is Cruise on board a small motorboat in St Ives harbour at 7am on Friday morning.

The man, who does look similar to the Hollywood actor, arrived in the harbour on a tender from the yacht and spent around 10 minutes looking around before returning to the Triple Seven.

Triple Seven was still moored in the bay outside the harbour at Friday lunchtime. The yacht can host 12 guests within six staterooms and has a crew of 17.

The vessel has a host of luxury features including a water slide, wake board, knee board, fishing equipment, kite surfers, surf-skis, jet skis, stand-up paddleboards, and an inflatable water park.

But it's been pointed out that the younger and taller look-a-like is actually a boatman from the yacht who is named Peter, from Portsmouth and in his early 20s.

According to film industry reports, Mission Impossible 7 and 8 are being filmed back to back, but have faced delays due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Filming has been taking place at Warner Bros Studios in Hertfordshire, and on location around the UK.

People claim to have spotted Cruise and English actor Simon Pegg after a film crew moved into a quarry, WiltshireLive reports.

Filming is under way off Long River Road near Westbury, where the gates are watched over by security guards around the clock.

Many local residents have reportedly seen Cruise and Pegg in the area.

He was also spotted fist-bumping David Beckham in the crowd at Wembley Stadium for the Euro 2020 final where England faced Italy.

Triple Seven: one of the most expensive yachts in the world, and is the one chosen by Tom Cruise for the summer

A few days ago anchored in the British port of Penzance, the Triple Seven , the actor Tom Cruise was enjoying all the luxuries that are on board to rest.

Owned by magnate Roman Abramovich , owner of Chelsea Football Club, the boat is rented at a price of 537,000 euros per week.

The boat has an estimated price of 37 million euros, although it can also be rented for 537,000 euros a week.

The yacht is 68 meters long and was manufactured by the German shipping company Nobiskrug .

The Triple Seven has the capacity to receive up to 12 guests. She also has a crew of 18 members to attend to the guests.

She on board she has numerous open spaces, while the interior is equipped with comforts of the highest level and accompanied by a minimalist decoration.

There are also several spaces to enjoy, such as a jacuzzi, gym, bar and solarium. She also carries jet skis, kayaks, wakeboards, and an inflatable slide on board.

Her name is due to the fact that 777 is considered the lucky number in Germany where she was built She has 7 bulletproof windows, 7 engravings that adorn the floating spiral staircase in the center of the yacht.

Marine / Super yacht linked to Tom Cruise arrives in Lerwick

A LUXURIOUS super yacht which has been linked in the media to Hollywood actor Tom Cruise has arrived at Lerwick Harbour.

Newspapers speculated that Cruise may have rented the Triple Seven yacht to take a break from filming a Mission Impossible movie in England.

However, an alleged sighting of Cruise coming off the boat in Cornwall in late July is thought to have been a yacht staff member who sported a resemblance to the movie star – leading to suggestion he may not actually be on board.

Nevertheless, the yacht is certainly a different sight in Lerwick Harbour in amongst the Dim Riv and the lifeboat.

It is reportedly is worth 38 million Euros and costs more than £400,000 a week to hire.

It arrived in Lerwick this morning (Monday) after sailing up from the west of Scotland.

TOM Cruise's luxury superyacht has been seen touring Scotland.

We told two weeks ago how the £33m Triple Seven was in Greenock after being rented by the Hollywood superstar.

It has now been spotted off the cost of Fife, passing Anstruther yesterday.

Now, these stunning pics show inside the plush vessel, which Cruise had been staying on took a break from Mission Impossible filming.

It's not clear if the 59-year-actor is still on the boat.

The 68 metre yacht can host up to 12 people, as well as 17 crew members to wait on his every need.

It features a huge waterslide, a jacuzzi and various outdoor dining spaces, depending on where Tom fancies his dinner.

It is tastefully decorated inside with cream interiors and an impressively sized master bedroom.

It was owned by Russian billionaire  Alexander Abramov  but is believed to have been sold to an anonymous buyer.

It's not the only superyacht to have been exploring Scottish stores in recent times, with the £60m Ragnar sparking excitement among Oban locals.

The 223ft boat caught the eye after being docked at the bay in Oban, sailing under the flag of Malta.

The impressive vessel is believed to be owned by Russian millionaire Vladimir Strzhalkovsky, a former KGB agent, but is up for sale, or can also be rented out at £382,000 per week.

The businessman, worth £300m, bought it for £69.5m.

In June, The Sun revealed that filming on the seventh installment of Mission Impossible had ground to a halt once again after someone on  set tested positive for coronavirus.

Some people pointed their fingers at the leading man himself, claiming they hadn’t seen him on set since.

An insider said: “Filming on Mission Impossible 7 is on hold again because of coronavirus. And this time, those working on the production have said they think Tom could be the possible cause of the postponement.

“Everyone on the set was told that filming was being stopped again because of a positive test. And since then, Tom hasn’t been on set once.

“Now people are speculating that he could have come into contact with the person who tested positive. And in some cases, people are even gossiping and saying it could be him.

“Obviously there is no proof of that but it’s not stopped people ­gossiping about it. It’s now become a joke on set, with people saying how ironic it would be if Tom was the reason they had to press pause again.”

In December, The Sun released an audio re­cord­ing of Tom, who plays spy Ethan Hunt in the franchise, giving workers at the set in Leavesden, Herts, the hairdryer treatment over Covid.

In an impassioned speech Tom pleaded with those on the production to stick within the rules to avoid further hold-ups.

Regardless of how you feel about the man off-screen, Tom Cruise is irrefutably one of the greatest action movie stars of all time – if not the greatest. His dedication and innovation within the action film space is unrivalled, with him training for incredibly dangerous stunts and co-developing the means to perfectly shoot and capture them. The latest film to showcase Tom’s talents is the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One . Now, Tom already has a strong repertoire of watches in his collection. But while promoting the upcoming seventh entry into the Mission Impossible franchise in Korea, it appears Tom was sporting the new Rolex Yacht-Master 42 RLX Titanium.

Well-spotted by Nick, the Sherlock Holmes of watch-spotting, a trained eye will catch the Rolex Yacht-Master 42 RLX Titanium throughout his visit in Korea. As Nick points out, based on the bezel and case it is clearly a Yacht-Master. But, the giveaway is the spanking-new configuration is the bracelet. Other white metal (steel, white gold, platinum) Yacht-Master watches only have the matte ceramic bezel on the rubber Oysterflex bracelet. So, by the power of deduction, it is safe to say Cruise has the titanium model on his wrist. The watch was a very big deal, as it was the second-ever production RLX Titanium watch after the 50mm Sea-Dweller Deepsea Challenge (but definitely the first wearable titanium Rolex). With his star power, surely no AD would ever deprive Tom of such a prize. The watch really suits Tom, and will make a great tool watch for his inevitable action-packed adventures – at least off-screen.

Back when Tom Cruise was on the mother of all press trips for Top Gun: Maverick, he obviously had the watch roll to back it up throughout his travels – with everything from Cartier to Vacheron to Rolex and back to Cartier – it’s a wild ride in itself.

Tom Cruise was spotted riding the wave of insane Cartier popularity by strapping on a Caliber de Cartier Chronograph for the Late Late Show with James  Corden  – except he’s not. Because Tom chose one of only a handful of Cartier models that the world isn’t going completely nuts for. Hailing from an era when Cartier were trying to be all things to all people, the Calibre de Cartier has not found resounding success within the watch community. But kudos to Tom for going against the grain, sporting the since discontinued reference regardless.

After the release of the film, high on life from gushing reviews of Top Gun: Maverick and smashing through the world’s most intense press tour, Tom was seen wearing his Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar in white gold with a solid blue dial – a watch of near perfect proportions and pedigree. Internally, we joked that Cruise wanted to atone for the Cartier Calibre de Cartier misstep from a week prior with a holy trinity strength comeback.

Like a Datejust , a Santos de Cartier is another highly versatile watch perfect for any collection. Tom was seen sporting the large, where I would personally go for the more traditional medium size. But, the large model has the advantage of having a date complication – and every watch he has been spotted wearing features this complication in some form. One notable advantage the Santos de Cartier has over his Datejust is the fact that it has an interchangeable strap system, so he can switch between the bracelet and included leather strap whenever he wants.

Rolex Sky-Dweller

It is almost inevitable that every famous actor eventually adds a Rolex to their collection, but, as an avid pilot who takes to the skies both on and off-screen regularly, the Sky-Dweller is arguably Rolex’s ultimate pilot’s watch. It not only displays a second time zone, but also the calendar date and month as well. It is arguably the most complicated Rolex watch in the modern catalogue today. Tom wore his when he visited the British Grand Prix while celebrating his 60th birthday.

When word broke in January that Tom Cruise signed a deal to develop original and franchise pictures with Warner Bros. Discovery, including having an office for the actor’s Cruise/Wagner Productions company on the WBD lot, many ask if it’s a sign all isn’t well between Cruise and frequent collaborator Paramount Pictures. But while it's a terrific "get" for Warner’s Motion Picture Group co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, it can’t hurt the Cruise’s blockbuster relationship with Paramount.

The deal with Warner is not even exclusive, nor is it a first-look situation prohibiting Cruise from shopping projects to other studios first. I suspect it’s in fact a preparation for a set of specific projects being considered and/or developed, including some Cruise is bringing to the studio to collaborate on, and a few franchises the studio wants Cruise to appear in (and I’ve a suspicion laced with hope that it might eventually involve conversations with James Gunn and Peter Safran over at DC Studios).

Warner and Cruise will no doubt make some big projects together and enjoy lots of success, if the star-producer’s history of picking winning projects and pairing with the right people is any guide. Edge of Tomorrow , The Last Samurai , and Interview With the Vampire , are some of the films Cruise made in some collaboration with Warner that were critical and/or financial successes, combining for $1 billion in box office.

However, understanding that deal in the context of Cruise’s ongoing relationship with Paramount requires understanding at the math.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning grossed $567.5 million around the world in 2023. After the final Mission: Impossible 8 movie for Cruise releasing in 2025 and upcoming Top Gun 3 release expected for 2026, across every decade for nearly 40 years, Tom Cruise will have been making Paramount an average of $772 million per film in two tentpole franchises totaling $8-8.5 billion.

Few stars can boast similarly successful longterm relationships with a studio and franchises, and this is without discussing the massive merchandising revenue streams behind both franchises, which adds billions more in revenue streams.

Then consider the sales and licensing for TV and streaming worldwide, the soundtracks and shirts, the buttons and collectables, and the rest of the merchandise. We’re talking about money-printing machines, as franchises go.

So at first glance, it might seem surprising Cruise is willing to step outside of that relationship. I saw reactions to the title change for this year’s Mission: Impossible 8 , formerly Dead Reckoning Part 2 , asking if this reflects continued debate about the marketing of the previous film and how to proceed, with an implication the title change and deal with WBD might be tied to those rumors of Cruise being displeased by the studio’s handling of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1’s release.

But I don’t believe the situation around the promotion and final box office for Dead Reckoning is as big of a deal as some make it out to be, nor are the implications of Cruise’s deal with WBD.

For what it’s worth, I suspect the title change of the sequel from its original Dead Reckoning Part 2 to simply Mission: Impossible 8 may be a temporary place-holding palate cleanser of sorts, to distance it from the impression of the “two-part story” pitch accompanying the first film.

Add a big, new marketing promotion and tie-in merchandising deals and a dynamic new title reflecting the fact it’s (supposedly, but questionably) Cruise’s final performance as Ethan Hunt, and I think audiences will be ready to turn out in numbers closer to what Cruise and Paramount PARA hoped for last time around.

The Problem

The problems faced by Dead Reckoning Part 1 started with the fact 2023 was just a rough reset year for audiences and studios all around. It was the first year we returned to the box office in a supposed “end of the pandemic/return to normal” emergence, but everyone was still making up their minds about how much they were willing to emerge. Audiences had completely changed how they watch movies and TV, and were reorienting themselves toward more home viewing as they got used to it and realized they didn’t miss theaters much.

But the biggest factor working against Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning was its release date. It hit theaters the weekend of July 14th, 2023. And that, unfortunately, turned out to be the weekend before the historic arrival of Barbie and Oppenheimer to take complete control of the box office and combine for a grand total of nearly $2.5 billion as they played through the end of summer, all of autumn, and into winter.

Indeed, Barbie didn’t leave theaters until January of 2024, and Oppenheimer remains in theaters to this day, actually seeing an increase in screens and box office receipts in the aftermath of it’s Oscar wins, including Best Picture , Best Director , Best Actor , and Best Supporting Actor .

So it’s understandable that Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning suffered the unfortunate fate of going up against the two biggest films of the year, in a year that audiences rejected the majority of tentpole and franchise releases.

However, after all films saw large declines the weekend Barbie and Oppenheimer debuted, the Mission: Impossible sequel declined a more blockbuster-typical 64%. Not a big hold, but avoiding a sizable drop in the face of overwhelming competition.

The second weekend of the so-called “Barbenheimer” phenomenon is where things really get interesting, though. Dead Reckoning only suffered a 45% drop its third North American weekend against Barbie and Oppenheimer (which both once again dominated with massive numbers). And then, on its fourth weekend, Dead Reckoning only dropped about 38%. And then 30%.

Again, that’s just domestically. Internationally, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning performed even stronger, and those legs carried it to nearly $400 million in foreign receipts alone.

The Potential

Which is all to say, what might Dead Reckoning have grossed if it wasn’t up against two record-setting blockbusters that dominated the box office for half the year during a pandemic faux-recovery year?

Just a 10% rise internationally would’ve put Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning over the $600 million threshold, and that instantly means the entire M:I franchise has a majority of films that grossed more than $600 million. Add in a 10% domestic rise as well, and we’re talking about $620+ million and a per-film average of $600 million per film, up from the current actual average of $592 million.

That might not sound like much in relative terms, but it means a lot and the optics matter. It’s also important for the complicated “Hollywood math” used to determine various thresholds for backend points and other participation.

I’m betting that, with such sustained audience attendance and final box office of $567 million for Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning in spite of the obstacles in its path in the markeplace, Mission: Impossible 8 will surely see more than just a 10% increase over Dead Reckoning’s cume.

At a 20% rise compared to Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning’s performance, the next sequel could finish somewhere around $680 million, and with enough momentum and good word of mouth it could easily top $700 million. Or more, in fact, with that big promotional blitz about it (again, so they say) being Tom Cruise’s final mission against his most dangerous foe.

This brings us back to the original point about how lucrative Mission: Impossible movies are for Paramount and Cruise. The same is true, of course, for Top Gun films as well.

The first Top Gun flew into theaters on a wave of frenzied audience anticipation and scored top grades from critics and viewers, as well as $357 million in worldwide box office. That’s equivalent to $1 billion in today’s dollars, for the inflation-adjusted conscious, which is particularly relevant for these franchises since the film lacked the massive international marketplace and huge premium screens like IMAX and Dolby Cinema with higher ticket prices, both of which drive the biggest annual blockbusters consistently toward $1 billion.

It’s no surprise, then, that Cruise’s continued star power could carry Top Gun: Maverick to greater heights and a $1.49 billion final global gross. At $1.8 billion combined, the two films set the stage for the upcoming third chapter to carry the franchise past the $3 billion line and possibly even toward $3.5 billion if it captures the public’s imaginations and hearts the way Maverick did.

Cruise is a powerhouse global star, one of the few left in Hollywood and perhaps the only one capable of delivering this sort of consistent box office and merchandising success across a span of almost 40 years. He’ll prove that when Mission: Impossible 8 arrives — maybe with a new title — May 23rd this summer. And he’ll prove it again with Top Gun 3 , although we’re still waiting on the arrival time for that one.

But rest assured, it will come. Just as eventual Mission: Impossible sequels will come, probably with Cruise involved or returning after a brief hiatus. There’s an $8 billion partnership to maintain, and Warner Bros. Discovering won’t get in the way of that.

Tom Cruise knows a thing or two about staying in shape.

Cruise, 61, showed off a glimpse of his toned abs while scaling the famous Hollywood sign on Saturday across a stretch of the Santa Monica Mountains in Los Angeles.

The "Mission Impossible" star hopped on top of the large white letters with a few film crew friends and lifted his black T-shirt for a quick snap.

Representatives did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

It is not clear what Cruise was working on to get the shot, but he is known for performing his own death-defying stunts as one of Hollywood's most coveted actors.

Paramount Pictures announced in October that the eighth installment of "Mission: Impossible" would be pushed back by one year.

The studio cited the SAG-AFTRA strike as one of the reasons for halting production and moved the release date from June 28, 2024 to May 23, 2025.

It is not the first time Cruise has faced production problems on his films, especially with the action-packed "Mission: Impossible" franchise, where he stars and performs his own stunts as agent Ethan Hunt.

Production came to a grinding halt on "Mission: Impossible – Fallout" in 2017 when Cruise broke his ankle while performing a stunt where he jumped between buildings. He got the shot and went back to filming despite not being fully healed.

The following installment, "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One," was shut down twice due to the pandemic. In addition, Cruise faced scrutiny for leaked audio where he chastised crew members for not adhering to social distancing rules.

Forbes reported that Cruise paid $700,000 for the cast and crew to live on cruise ships, essentially creating a safe environment for the team to work without risking a COVID-19 outbreak.

"Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One" earned $567.5 million worldwide and received some of the best reviews in the franchise's 27-year history.

"Top Gun: Maverick" also faced multiple setbacks due to the pandemic, but it ultimately landed in the right gear as Cruise's highest-grossing film and the second-highest-grossing movie in 2022, with $1.4 billion worldwide.

The Oscar-nominated film also marked Cruise's personal best when it crossed the $800 million mark in June 2022.

While we're getting whiplash from Cruise's recent, reported dating , maybe this one will bloom into something more?! We still can't believe his romance with Kharykova ended so quickly , especially since it seemed like a fourth marriage was in store for him. But it's shown that Cruise has a thing for his co-stars, so this may end up being a better fit. Only time will tell.

9 'American Made' (2017)

Certainly, a morally gray character in his character canon, Cruise is charismatic as Barry Seal. The action comedy is based on a true story about an American pilot who becomes in charge of a covert CIA operation where he becomes a drug runner in the 1980s. The feature would not be the first time Cruise and director Doug Liman have teamed up, but American Made is the polar opposite of their previous action work together.

American Made focuses more on complex character development versus the usual explosions, running, and sweaty-palm stunts Cruise fans are used to; however, accidents on the set loomed over the production. It's more comedy than action, but with Cruise's star power and all the complete ingredients, it's a suitable non-franchise feature.

8 'War of the Worlds' (2005)

This would be the second time in which Steven Spielberg and Cruise would work together to bring a sci-fi adaptation to the screen. Based on the classic H.G. Wells novel, War of the Worlds finds humanity under alien attack. The fight for survival is told through the perspective of blue-collar father Ray Ferrier (Cruise) and his children ( Dakota Fanning and Justin Chatwin ).

6 'Minority Report' (2002)

Two legendary cinematic icons collaborated to bring to the big screen an adaptation of Philip K. Dick's famous sci-fi novella "Minority Report." Cruise stars as Chief John Anderton of the Pre-crime Division, a police unit that uses the psychic abilities of the PreCogs to arrest and convict criminals before they commit their crimes. John's world and purpose change drastically when he is predicted to murder a man he's never met.

With 30 years of Naval service to his name, Maverick returns to the Top Gun Academy to train a new group of recruits for a highly specialized mission with maneuvers that have never been successfully executed before. To complicate matters, one of the top graduates is Lt. Bradley Bradshaw ( Miles Teller ), the son of Maverick's deceased best friend Goose.

3 'edge of tomorrow' (2014).

Originally titled "Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow," what ultimately became the feature's tagline sums up the premise. As aliens wreak havoc on the world , Major William Cage (Cruise) is sent into combat on a suicide mission. Having never seen combat, Cage is killed almost instantly; however, he's thrust into a time loop of the same battle that leads to his death. As he lives through and dies in the loop over and over again, his combat experience improves, teaming up with comrade, Rita ( Emily Blunt ), in their attempts to kill the aliens.

This is an action film that drew audiences in with all the right elements—Cruise, Blunt, sci-fi action, and a corny, but accurate tagline—and produced a blockbuster hit. Edge of Tomorrow steers clear of the action genre's pitfalls of poor storylines and writing for the sake of action. Co-written by Christopher McQuarrie , Jez Butterworth , and John-Henry Butterworth , the script and Cage's character set Cruise up for success to carry yet another one-off action hit.

2 'top gun' (1986), directed by tony scott.

A blockbuster turned cult classic, Top Gun is the second franchise that is synonymous with the name Tom Cruise. He stars as the iconic Maverick, a hot-shot pilot competing for the bragging rights of best in the class at the Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons school. He's enrolled alongside his close friend and co-pilot Goose ( Anthony Edwards ), the pair antagonizing their top competitor, Iceman ( Val Kilmer ).
