nobody passes a police car!

editor

Police Car , the Ed Dubois-designed 42-footer that revolutionized IOR thinking, is languishing at Port Macquarie in northern NSW mid-way through an abandoned restoration . It is a sad low-point in the life of a yacht that, in its prime, set the standard for offshore racing, much as Imp had done two years before.

Commissioned by the chain-smoking West Australian businessman Peter Cantwell, Police Car was the design that brought the young Ed Dubois to international prominence. A fractional sloop with low freeboard, extreme aft sections, tall rig and ‘ratings bumps’ below the waterline, the boat was an unabashed attempt to squeeze every advantage out of the IOR rule.

Dubois, who passed away three years ago, wrote an affectionate account of the design thinking that helped create Police Car for a crew reunion in 2002. “I felt that with the understanding in Australia of more dinghy-inspired rigs that giving a boat a fractional configuration was a good bet. I also gave Police Car less freeboard, marginally less beam and a broader stern than was currently seen on the form boats being produced by Doug Petersen and Ron Holland.

“The risk to this approach was light air speed but I felt that with the extra sail area from the fractional rig this potential risk would be minimal. What I was trying to do was to create an easily driven hull with a full after body but which would not have two high a rated length because of the pronounced kink through the two after girth stations.”

The boat was built in aluminium by Steve Ward in Perth in an incredible eight weeks. After its Admiral’s Cup triumph the ‘ The Car ’ was bought by Sir James Hardy who campaigned her with great success in offshore events, including four Sydney-Hobart races and the 1982 Clipper Cup in Hawaii (where it was dismasted off Diamond Head but the crew rebuilt the spar, missing just one race in the regatta.)

More than 30 years later this historically significant offshore racer is now looking for someone to bring her back from the brink of extinction. The sales pitch by the current owner is refreshingly honest, saying “ There’s plenty to do. This project (and boat) isn’t for the faint-hearted.

“There are plenty of old sails. They’re not great but OK for cruising. There isn’t a whole lot in terms of electronics. The sailing gear (winches etc) are old but good quality. I think anybody who’s sailed the boat will tell you, she’s a whole lot of serious fun on the water!”

Peter Bruce’s guide

  • June 1, 2007

Peter Bruce, a past winner of the Gold Roman Bowl, highlights 11 hotspots and offers advice and tactics to improve your performance

Peter Bruce, a past winner of the Gold Roman Bowl, highlights 11 hotspots and offers advice and tactics to improve your performance The start There’s a lot of dirty air down wind from a big fleet, so make sure that you are near the line and in clean air at the start. It may pay to start at a point that is also clear of faster yachts. A succession of faster yachts going through to windward will kill your chance of leaving the Solent in good shape. After the start, manoeuvre, or tack, with clean air as one of the higher priorities. Don’t become tangled up with bunches of boats, and be prepared to waive right of way when the other boat concerned looks as if it is doing the only race of the year. If the choice is between clean air or good tide, go for clean air, but then work hard to be back in the good tide. West Solent Keep in the deeper soundings and therefore the best tide. Only when the wind is light and from the north will it pay to take the north shore. If the wind is SSW there may be some good lifts on the island shore. The wind and tide are usually a little stronger off Hampstead Ledge buoy. Hurst Harrows Keep in the deep water where the tide is strongest. This means staying near a line between Sconce and NE Shingles buoys. The Needles Be careful not to overstand The Needles and be swept down to the west by the tide. On the other hand don’t tangle with the wreck, inviting though it may look to cut the corner. With its four separate hunks, the wreck is difficult to place, so unless you really know what you are doing, you should keep clear. Once past the Needles do not go into Scratchells Bay unless you are absolutely sure you know where Irex Rock is from reading Wight Hazards. You are safely to seaward of all of them if you keep Old Pepper Rock in sight. Hanover Point, Hardman Rock and Atherfield Ledge Rock ledges extend a long way out from the island shore in places from Hanover Point to Atherfield Ledge. When it pays to take an inshore route, and it often does, you must be aware that an echo sounder will neither help you much in the approach to Hardman Rock or Atherfield Ledge. Use of other means of pilotage, such as the transits in Wight Hazards, is essential if you are planning to cut them fine. Hardman Rock is shown in Wight Hazards, but only on recent charts. St Catherine’s Point The coastline is rock bound from Rocken End via St Catherine’s Point to Dunnose Point and there are many offlyers. Try to find a route that keeps your wind clear, minimises the contrary tide and gives a sensible margin over unexpected rocks. The water is often clear enough to see rocks that shallow-draught boats would ground upon, so an alert bowman in a smaller boat can save the situation even when one is imprudently close to the shore. Bembridge Ledge It is seldom advantageous to go close to the ledge itself but be careful not to overstand the buoy. Once round it can pay to go well up to windward to avoid dirty wind from overtaking yachts. On the other hand if they are big and heavy try to get a ride on their quarter wave. No Man’s Land Fort If your boat carries her way well it may pay to shoot the windless area a little on the lee side of the fort to be clear of other boats’ dirty air. Don’t go too close, though, as one can ground on the annular ledges around the base of the forts. Ryde Sands Try to stay out of the tide off Ryde Sands; however, don’t run aground, as it will slow you and one doesn’t always come off too easily! Once past Sandshead post, the bottom shelves steeply, so someone needs to keep an eagle eye on the echo sounder and be ready to call for water (if entitled) on outsiders. The book Solent Hazards has some useful information on Ryde Sands. Castle Point When one is close to the finish it is easy to relax. Generally it pays to go in close at Castle Point but, exceptionally, when there is a lot of south in the wind, there’ll be no wind under the point at all and one will need to stay out in the tide. With the normal southwesterly wind direction, one may well find that the wind goes up one force after Castle Point – if your boat was hard pressed in the approach to the point, it may well pay to change to a smaller headsail, even for the short distance to the finish. The finish The race is not over until the finish. Alert crews can gain a tremendous number of places in the last two or three tacks. If the tide is against, keep inshore, but remember that the Shrape, off Old Castle Point, shelves rapidly. Ten tips for how to win the Round the Island Race 1 Make sure your rating is as good as it can be, so check with your class association or the RORC to find out what you can do to optimise it. 2 Scrub the bottom within the week before the race – June is a good time for growing weed! 3 Be brutal with the cruising gear – dump it, even if it does seem to weigh nothing! 4 Choose fit and competent crew, because passenger weight is only useful in heavy weather! 5 Take easy-to-eat, energy-rich food together with bottled water or isotonic drinks – definitely no alcohol during the race, because it makes you drowsy, but don’t forget a bottle of your well-earned favourite tipple for after the race! 6 Get to the start area in good time to watch previous classes starting. 7 Once at the starting area, lock the propeller shaft (with mole grips) to prevent spinning and propeller drag during the race, but remember to unlock before starting the engine again! 8 Just before the start, keep in the strength of the tide and stay near the line. 9 Try to keep a clear wind in congested parts of the race, for example at the start and again at the Needles, where the race often begins again. It generally doesn’t pay to force another boat to tack, even if you do have the right of way, because they’ll only tack back on top of you. 10 Sail the shortest distance possible round the course (don’t overstand the Needles, as most boats do), and stay as much as possible in the strongest fair tide, and then don’t get caught on Ryde Sands on the final leg! Good luck and have fun! The author Peter Bruce first wrote this feature for the June 2004 edition of Yachting Monthly. He is the author of the well known volumes, Solent Hazards and Wight Hazards. Below Deck Loses 2 Crewmembers After a Firing and a Dramatic Season 11 Departure

Below deck 's capt. kerry titheradge fired the first season 11 yachtie during the bravo series' march 18 episode, but that wasn't the only shocking departure. find out who else left the yacht..

The  St. David  is down not one, but two crewmembers.

During Below Deck 's March 18 episode, Captain Kerry Titheradge  fired the first season 11 yachtie when he let Bosun Jared Woodin go for unprofessional behavior, the last straw being an inebriated Jared barging into Stew Barbie Pascual 's cabin the night prior and yelling at Deckhand Kyle Stillie for leaving a mess of loose tobacco on the deck after a night of partying.

"This is the second time you've gone on the piss and you've had bad behavior," Kerry told his subordinate. "You're in a leadership role. You can't be acting like that. You gotta be above the fray. The way that you're treating these guy is not acceptable."

But it wasn't just the alcohol that was the problem, as Kerry noted Jared's mental state wasn't where it needed to be. "You've got s--t going on, man," he shared. "You're your own worst enemy right now. You need to depart the vessel."

However, Jared agreed his head wasn't in the right place and accepted his termination graciously.

"This ain't the right place for me at the right time," Jared replied, to which Kerry responded, "I don't blame you for that. Take this time and work on yourself. Me keeping you here is a disservice to you."

Before departing the super-yacht, Jared reflected in a confessional, "I thought I was in a good headspace coming into this. I'm really not. And as much as I'd like to be I'm just lying to myself."

But Jared wasn't the only teammate to set sail during the latest episode. Stew Cat Baugh willingly left the ship after admittedly struggling with the job all season long.

"I really wanna push through for you guys," Cat, in tears, told Chief Stew Fraser Olender after receiving a very distressing call from a friend back home in America. "I'm just losing my mind right now."

And Fraser totally understood his crewmember's needs.

"If you're in a very unhappy place," he told her, "I'd rather you put your health and your mental health before that and we get you the help you need as soon as we can."

In a confessional, Fraser elaborated, "I don't know what is going on, but you can look into someone's eyes sometimes and see that there is no more that they can give. They are going through enough to be incapable and I need to do what's right for her. "

See how the crew copes with the unexpected departures when Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on Bravo. And keep reading to look back at the most shocking Below Deck firings ever.

If there's one thing to learn from Camille Lamb 's Below Deck firing, it's to not slack off on the job. That's exactly why the season 10 stew was let go by substitute Captain Sandy Yawn , as Chief Stew Fraser Olender continued to criticize Camille's behavior on board.

From being caught drinking while preparing for a new charter to partying at late hours and more, Fraser informed Captain Sandy that he had reached his "last straw."

"She's the common denominator in all of this," said Captain Sandy. "Great girl, great personality, but at the same time, we have to do what's best for the boat."

Below Deck Adventure 's Kyle Dickard was let go just three episodes into the reality franchise's latest series—which premiered in November 2022. After picking fights with his fellow deckhand Nathan Morley —as well as kissing crew mates in front of guests—Kyle was offered by Captain Kerry Titheradge the opportunity to resign so that his firing would not end up on his personal record.

Kyle took the Captain up on his offer and left the boat after just one charter.

Captain Sandy let bosun Raygan Tyler go during season seven of Below Deck Mediterranean ,  not only for causing the boat to  take a small hit while docking, but also for not stepping up to the plate as a leader.

But Captain Sandy didn't want her firing to discourage the bosun, as she told Raygan, "If I had the time and I wasn't running a boat this size, I would train you. I would teach you."

In addition to onboard romances and failing to follow directions , one of the biggest reasons behind stew Elizabeth Frankini 's Below Deck firing was her infamous laundry room accident , during which made a toxic mess when combining bleach and laundry soap.

"Unfortunately, I didn't know that was so toxic and I feel so bad about it," she told E! News of the incident in December 2020 . "You know, I do feel really bad, especially 'cause Francesca [ Rubi ] did say, 'Take it outside.'"

The bosun and stew were both fired by Captain Jason Chambers for inappropriate behavior after a night of partying with their fellow yachties.

Luke Jones was let go after getting into Stew Margot Sisson 's bed naked while she was drunk and unconscious. Laura Bileskaine also made unwanted advances on Deckhand Adam Kodra despite him telling her he was not interested in hooking up.

Jason made it known that consent was a must, and sent both crewmembers packing.

Tensions between stew Lexi Wilson and Chef Mathew Shea came to a head during an explosive dinner fight on season six of Below Deck Mediterranean , during which Lexi told Matt that his parents "should've aborted you." That was the last straw for Captain Sandy, who fired her not long after the incident.

Deckhand Tom Pearson said "bon voyage" to Below Deck Sailing Yacht after getting let go by Captain Glenn Shephard . Tom hit his last strike with the Captain after failing to report that the boat's anchor was dragging during heavy winds one night, causing a potential safety risk for everyone on board.

"It had to be done. It was such a grievous thing that he dropped the ball there, he had to go, and we had to just be man down and live with it, you know?" Captain Glenn said of the decision  on Watch What Happens Live. "So, obviously, you don't want to do that, but yeah, it had to happen."

Some people are picky eaters, but Below Deck Down Under' s Ryan McKeown was quite the picky chef, as he would judge guests'  food requests  and fail to take  criticism from Captain Jason Chambers , as well.

Perhaps Ryan's Below Deck exit is one of the franchise's most memorable, as he mooned Jason and viewers on his way off the boat.

Below Deck Down Under stew Magda Ziomek 's firing was another case of slacking on the job. After constantly being on her phone texting or video chatting with her boyfriend, Chief Stew Aesha Scott decided to replace Magda before the end of the charter season.

Below Deck Mediterranean 's Peter Hunziker was fired from the series in June 2020 after he shared an offensive post on social media.

"Peter Hunziker of Below Deck Mediterranean has been terminated for his racist post," Bravo wrote in a statement at the time. "Bravo and 51 Minds are editing the show to minimize his appearance for subsequent episodes."

Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier was let go by Captain Sandy on Below Deck Mediterranean after boson Malia White discovered her co-star possessed undeclared Valium and a vape pen, the former of which Hannah claimed was for her anxiety.

"If I could do it all over again, I would've just declared them as soon as I came on board," Hannah stated in an August 2020 interview with E! News. "It was definitely not something that was intentional. I wasn't trying to hide anything.

Below Deck Mediterranean 's Delaney Evans left just as quickly as she arrived. After initially being brought on during season six to help out Chief Stew Katie Flood , Katie determined that Delaney was doing more harm than good, choosing to let her go after just one charter.

"I think she was overwhelmed with the situation, and I think that, you know, in her mind, the best solution to the situation was just to go back to what they had before," Delaney told Bravo Insider of Katie's decision. "I think she was just overwhelmed with everything that was going on and all the feedback she was getting."

Deckhand Shane Coopersmith was a bit in over his head on season eight of Below Deck , as he was let go for failing to know basic skills, reporting late for duty and taking naps on the job.

Chaos in the kitchen led to Captain Lee Rosbach letting Chef Leon Walker go on season three of Below Deck . After an oven fire broke out , Lee placed the blame on Chief Stew Kate Chastain but was ultimately the one sent home.

Like several of the franchise's stars, Below Deck 's Chris Brown  was fired  during season five for failing to fully perform his duties. After being let go by Captain Lee, Chris shared some parting words as he left the boat, stating , "Who gives a s--t?"

Chef Mila Kolomeitseva was fired by Captain Sandy on season four of Below Deck Mediterranean after failing to use her cooking skills to produce top-quality food for guests—including some not-so-nice nachos .

"Of course it makes me feel awful," Mila said of her departure . "People like me who have big egos sometimes have to be put down to earth a little bit. But it makes me feel like I want to work even harder."

Sometimes people just don't work well together. That's exactly why Captain Lee fired Chandler Brooks during season six of Below Deck , telling the boson, "I don't think it's a good fit."

United Yacht Sales Has New Owners!

By Rob Bowman | Posted On Dec 15, 2020 Updated On Mar 23, 2022

Stuart, Florida: United Yacht Sales, the world’s largest professional yacht brokerage firm with more than 175 yacht brokers worldwide, began in 2002 with a vision by founder Peter Schmidt to change the yacht brokerage industry. By treating each broker as a client, investing in a strong support team, and offering the most competitive commission split anywhere, Peter has grown United to new heights.

At age 75 and still in the office every day, Peter recognized the importance of having a secession plan that did not jeopardize the culture that’s been developed among the team. That’s why after 19 years, Peter has sold the majority portion of the company to Brian Boettler and professional yacht broker Captain Jeff Palmer . What started as a company based on family values will continue that refreshing commitment moving forward.

“I am very proud of what we have all built,” said Peter Schmidt. “My number one stipulation for selling the company was that whoever bought it would not change the principles it was founded upon. I’m very confident that Brian and Jeff, along with our fantastic team, will continue to even greater achievements.”

Brian Boettler, will assume the role of United CEO. Jeff Palmer, a well-respected, 30+ year captain and yacht broker, will become Vice President and focus on broker development and recruitment. Peter will continue with United as President and will be very active with the company on a daily basis to ensure a smooth transition.

“I am ecstatic to assume the role of CEO of United,” said Brian. “As a client of United and Jeff’s for many years, I see an incredible opportunity for growth. We’re going to immediately start working on furthering our support of our brokers and our clients. It’s going to be an exciting time to be a United Yacht broker.”

United has seen incredible sales throughout 2020 including a 114% increase in the 3rd quarter and the 4th quarter trending in the same direction.

Dreamline 34 bridge

Dreamline 34 — The dynamic double-decker from DL Yachts

If you’re going to start a shipyard at the tail-end of one of the most traumatic economic episodes the world has ever experienced, when boatbuilders are struggling all around you and order books are bone dry, you’ve largely got two choices: go cheap or go new.

Peter Zuber, founder of Fano, Italy-based DL Yachts , chose the latter option. In teaming up with Enrico Gobbi and his Team for Design studio, Zuber’s ambition was to bring fresh thinking to the sub-50 metre market: bold, striking lines and boats packed with innovative features (including, on the first 34 metre, a lobster tank on the flybridge).

The first yachts out of his sheds were a pair of 26 metre models. Hull one, Miss Anna , touched the water in 2014, the second, 7 Seconds , in mid-August 2015 and a further three – all sold – are in-build. The boat featured here is the flagship, the Dreamline 34 , just launched and seen exclusively by Boat International.

Another 34 metre is already in build, and DL Yachts is on the verge of securing the contract for a third, as well as inking a deal on a 30 metre . That’s a total of nine orders in three years. Chapeau.

“Our success lies in the fact that we don’t crib other yards’ products,” the yard’s CEO, Paolo Bencivenni, says. “We have created our own style and we propose customised models that for their level of finishing and features have no competitors in their size range. Experienced owners appreciate these things.”

They must do, because there aren’t too many other start-up yards, Cantiere delle Marche being the notable exception, that can boast such a successful early trajectory. There’s even talk of building bigger.

“We will go where our clients lead us,” says Zuber. “48 to 50 metres may be the limit of what we can produce in GRP in our current facilities, but a new facility is about to be inaugurated. Yachts above 50 metres will be built in steel and aluminium, but we can also build smaller boats in aluminium.”

The yard might not be cheap, but it is competitive, the founder insists, thanks to a lean management structure and a firm handle on costs.

The family style is clear from the 26 metre to the 34, but it’s not without substance. The yard brought in Giuseppe Arrabito of Arrabito Naval Architects to develop an efficient hull shape to reduce fuel consumption and provide a kinder ride.

He designed what he calls a “waveless hull”, which dampens the bow wave and limits pitching, effects proven during tank testing at SSPA in Sweden. “We have minimised the longitudinal curvature of the waterlines while the forward part of the hull is dramatically refined so the wave formation at the bow is almost cancelled,” he explains.

“The Dreamline 34’s hull is designed to stream water flow along the hull changing the pressure distribution and overcoming resistance. The geometry of the aft portion of the hull provides ‘fast displacement’ hydrodynamic lift and a partial planning effect.”

The concept hits maximum efficiency at 10/11 knots, when the total consumption of the two MTU 1,920hp engines is just 75 litres per hour.

The same focus was applied to noise and vibration on board, which is aided by significant and studied dampening. During our tour of the yacht, one generator and the air-conditioning were running, yet it was impossible to perceive the slightest noise.

Quiet and stable, then, as fuel tanks have been designed so diesel can be shipped from one side of the boat to the other, or fore and aft, to keep things steady, while Humphree interceptors off the transom help trim at all speeds.

Gobbi’s design is typical of his studio’s output – aggressive, sharp, almost wind-sculpted. What it’s not is middle-of-the-road, or super saleable, making Zuber’s decision to commission the studio a brave one.

“A dynamic line is pivotal to the Dreamline 34’s overall look,” the Italian designer says. “Filling out the yacht’s footprint to the fullest, the exterior styling lends itself to a strong character.”

One notable feature of the Dreamline 34 is the forward section of the main deck, which bulges out to the beams to create a sort of terrace effect.

It gives the owner’s suite, located within that forward sweep of windows, direct and private access to the foredeck, creating a hideaway unusual on a boat this size.

That single, long window run on main deck level provides a superb panoramic outlook for the owner’s suite forward, and stunning lateral views from the huge, open-plan saloon. Throughout this level there’s a padded elegance that helps create a warm, intimate atmosphere.

The saloon benefits most of all, where glossy wenge, leather and backlit onyx are brought to the fore. “The owner was personally involved in the choice of all materials and fabrics used on board as he wanted a linear yet luxury setting which reflected his lifestyle,” Gobbi says.

Walls and ceilings, which are dotted with hundreds of minuscule LEDs to represent a starry sky, are clad with matt maple while the luxurious floor meshes soft carpet and bleached oak planks with onyx frames.

The Dreamline 34's saloon is divided, typically, between lounging and dining, but there’s nothing standard about the dining table, featuring a glass top framed in wenge, or the elegant lighting system above it.

Gobbi, who designed the interior, says, “We developed the project’s style and layout with Peter Zuber and the owner with whom I had worked in the past. We designed most of the furniture and decorative items, glass statues included.

"The imposing lamp above the dining table has been finely executed by Barovier & Toso’s master glaziers in Murano who keep the historical Venetian glass crafting tradition alive.”

A fold-down balcony aligned with the dining table offers endless views to guests.

They get pretty good views, too, through those italicised windows on the lower deck. The four guest cabins down here each have bright, elegant bathrooms clad in marble with white onyx washbasins.

The Dreamline 34 is a double-decker yacht, but Gobbi has snuck in a raised wheelhouse without it popping out of the design. He’s achieved this by creating a half-deck forward, which has the added benefit of giving owners and guests more space.

The wheelhouse gives access to the vast sundeck – a party space par excellence. A large lounging and dining space is protected by a hardtop with sliding panels, but the attention is grabbed by a teppanyaki grill and heated water tank for keeping lobsters and fish alive and fresh.

“The owner asked me to find a suitable place for an 18 degree water tank to have his favourite food at hand,” Gobbi says. “He is a fisherman himself and the fish and crustaceans he catches are kept in the tank and get cooked in front of guests on the grill.”

For after – or before – dinner, a glass custom jacuzzi with a gurgling waterfall sits just aft or, if you don’t want to get wet, there’s no shortage of sunpads.

A sign of yard founder Peter Zuber’s years as a yacht owner and engineer is found forward on this deck – an outside helm station that slides outwards as a balcony overlooking the sea.

It’s an amazing piece of engineering, and one whose benefits are obvious if coming alongside, as the skipper has a clear view forward and aft. From this vantage, the helmsman can operate the twin MTU 12V 2000 M94 engines, delivering a total 3,840hp.

The top speed of 22 knots is achieved without stress, thanks to the smooth power delivery and big sprayrails deflecting the spray and providing buoyancy. A comfortable cruise is found at 20 knots, but drop further to really make the horizon your own.

The hull is easily adaptable, too, as the second Dreamline 34 metre has been specced with the bigger MTU 2,600hp units for a maximum speed of 28 knots, befitting Gobbi’s sports car exterior. This first hull, though, is set for a slightly more sedate life. Although those lobsters might not agree.

IJE - a broker's view.

Published 21 September 2021

Senior Partner and Senior Sales Broker Peter Brown talks to Burgess News about IJE, one of nine new additions to our sales fleet .

Watch the ije video below and take the virtual tour at the bottom..

IJE video

Describe IJE

The top deck has an intimate and entirely private crow's nest

The owner has a dream build team, one that has built several yachts. Each is a remarkable achievement and IJE, it's safe to say, tops them all. She is a tour de force and the longest Benetti ever built.

A dedicated tiered cinema on the lower deck

The briefest glance will tell you that the beautifully balanced exterior lines bear the distinctive signature of sought-after star studio RWD. The owner's team worked very closely with them to perfect the look of decks seeming to float one above the other.

Her exterior design bears the unmistakable hallmark of RWD

Inside she has wonderfully informal beach-house style, airy, welcoming and restful, which is perfect for a family yacht. Another stamp of excellence is expert naval architecture by PierLuigi Ausonio.

She has over 1,000sqm (10,764sqft) of guest deck spaces

Most appealing features?

The glass-walled main saloon is an outstanding space

In the main saloon the full-height glass walls can slide back to open the space up. The difference that makes is hard to explain but it completely changes the environment.

The ability to open up the main saloon on three sides is transformative

Sound becomes softer and you can hear the sea, the air and light change to make it a shaded outside space. The entire experience is so much more restful. It's a break-through piece of design.

Pool, bar, dining, lounges in sun and shade, TV - it's the complete family set-up

The main deck aft has a good-sized pool, open-air dining, a bar, several different lounge areas including a TV lounge - everything families need to spend the day together.

You and your guests could spend the entire day here, it has all you need

There's a fully equipped lower deck gym with one of the largest sea terraces I've seen on a yacht of this size, and opposite is the tender and toy garage, which is packed with the latest kit.

Two 12m tenders allow your guests to explore ashore anywhere in the world

She has two 12m (40ft) tenders on the foredeck to take extended families ashore together. That longer length means they're faster, more comfortable, carry more people and equipment and have better range.

Full-height windows in the owner's suite and direct access to the foredeck helipad

There are eleven cabins for 22 guests, including a private owner's deck with walkaround sidedecks and a bedroom suite with direct access to the foredeck helipad.

The owner's saloon with dining inside and out and multiple lounge areas

An elevator connects lower to bridge decks and there is corridor access from the lower deck lobby to the beach club so that all generations of the family can enjoy step-free time together.

The yacht has its own fully equipped nightclub for totally private parties

There's a dedicated cinema, a very private nightclub complete with fully equipped bar, lighting and sound systems and DJ station, and a bridge deck games room with access to the aft deck's firepit lounge.

A mesmerising firepit is the focus of the lounge outside the bridge deck games room

The main deck has a beauty treatment room and hair salon and a massage room equipped to double as a hospital. She has everything any family could want or need for extended cruising.

The main deck has a massage room, a hair salon and treatment room

Need to know?

Right from the start, she was intended to be a world-cruising family yacht, one that could take the owner and their family cruising in any part of the world, places where the weather is not always reliable. To keep everyone on board comfortable, underway or at anchor, she has two sets of Naiad stabilisers.

With a range of 6,500nm, she was designed and built to cruise almost anywhere in the world

In more and more locations anchoring is not allowed to protect reefs and seabeds so she has been fitted with a Rolls-Royce dynamic positioning system to hold position without having to anchor.

Operating in the Mediterranean, yachts are generally well catered for and there are plenty of diversions ashore. When you get off the beaten track, which IJE was designed and built to be able to do, the infrastructure can become indifferent, distances greater, comfort and entertainment on board more important.

All-electric propulsion and dynamic positioning enable her to cruise in environmentally sensitive areas

IJE delivers the same seven-star experience anywhere in the world. She has always been professionally maintained and was designed to facilitate regular maintenance - another benefit of built-in experience. She is a remarkable achievement and her next owner will be the first to appreciate that.

Bluewater Yacht Sales

A Hands-On Partner

Oct 18, 2021 | Testimonials | 0 comments

bertram

I recently worked with Peter Morse on the survey and purchase of a 1980 Bertram 35, and his knowledge of the vessel and forthright exchange of information greatly facilitated the inspection process, pre-close work and finalization of the deal. Peter was a great “hands on” partner, and took all of the time needed to ready the vessel for sale and a 400 mile delivery. The boat performed well on the trip north, and Peter stayed in touch throughout to make sure we were doing OK. It was a great pleasure to work with Peter, Karen Monahan and Bluewater on this purchase. -Robert H.

Russia Maps Show 25% of Moscow Without Power Amid Winter Freeze 'Emergency'

R ussian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the nationalization of an ammunition plant in Moscow after a mechanical failure caused tens of thousands of Muscovites to lose heat and water amid freezing temperatures beginning last week.

On January 4, a heating main burst at the Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant in the town of Podolsk, which is around 30 miles south of central Moscow. Since then, tens of thousands of Russians are reported to have no heating in their homes in the Moscow region amid subzero temperatures.

Affected areas include the cities of Khimki, Balashikha, Lobnya, Lyubertsy, Podolsk, Chekhov, Naro-Fominsk, and Podolsk, a map published by a Russian Telegram channel and shared on other social media sites shows.

Other Russian media outlets reported that in Moscow, residents of Balashikha, Elektrostal, Solnechnogorsk, Dmitrov, Domodedovo, Troitsk, Taldom, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Krasnogorsk, Pushkino, Ramenskoye, Voskresensk, Losino-Petrovsky, and Selyatino are also without power.

That means that in total, more than a quarter of Moscow's cities have been hit with power outages and a lack of heating.

Newsweek has contacted Russia's Foreign Ministry for comment via email.

Many residents have taken to publishing video appeals on social media to complain about their freezing conditions. In one clip, people living in Moscow say that they are left with no choice but to warm their homes with gas stoves, heaters, and "whatever else we can find." Others said they are lighting fires in the streets to keep warm.

Andrei Vorobyov, governor of the Moscow region, announced on Tuesday that Putin ordered the ammunition plant to be nationalized because two of its owners have been "located abroad." He didn't name the individuals.

"We received the right to take control of this boiler house within the framework of an emergency," Vorobiev said, adding that the plant's boiler room was managed "very poorly" and there was "virtually no qualified competent personnel."

Russia's Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case over Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant not meeting safety requirements.

On Tuesday, the committee said that because of the incident, the deputy head of Podolsk's administration, the head of the plant's boiler house, and the general director of the ammunition plant had been detained.

Residents of Selyatino have described the situation as "some kind of struggle for survival," Russian Telegram channel ASTRA reported.

Power outages have also struck St. Petersburg, Rostov, Volgograd, Voronezh, Primorsky Territory, and Yekaterinburg.
