Niceville.com

North Light Yacht Club and Emerald Coast Marine have merged to create Emerald Coast Maine Center in Niceville, expanding operations and enhancing services.

North Light Yacht Club (NLYC) and Emerald Coast Marine (ECM) have announced a merger to form the Emerald Coast Marine Center (ECMC). The new company is led by three boating industry veterans including Shawn Talpey, President & Chief Operating Officer; Keri Doscher, Vice President; and Jeff Orbin, Vice President of Marketing and Development.

The new partnership is meant to create a comprehensive boat sales, service, rental, marina and yacht club experience for boaters throughout the Florida Panhandle.

“Our goal is to provide our clients with the most personalized, responsive and enjoyable boating experience possible, both oceanside and dockside,” says Talpey, who founded Emerald Coast Marine with partner Keri Doscher in 2015.  Talpey and Doscher previously worked together for several years in senior management roles that helped lead their former employer to the highly coveted #1 retail boat dealership ranking in North America.

Emerald Coast Marine leased space at North Light Yacht Club in the spring of 2016 to accommodate its fast-growing new boat sales and service dealership. Conversations ensued the following winter to discuss the long-term benefits and opportunities of creating a joint partnership with North Light Yacht Club. With a shared vision for creating a unique, all-inclusive boating experience to benefit boaters in their market, the principals from both companies discussed and analyzed a strategic merger option, with a favorable outcome.

The next few months will directly reflect the new vision and major enhancements for the facility.

Plans include the recent acquisition of an adjacent property that will be utilized to expand the sales facility by building a new, indoor showroom with additional customer parking.  A new Service, Parts and Accessories department will be built within the existing dry storage facility to provide store frontage for popular marine parts and tackle.  The current Ship’s Store will be consolidated, providing expanded space for a new Yacht Club lounge. The popular pool and spa area will also receive a major renovation to provide more privacy with poolside cabanas, along with the addition of a tiki bar, which will be operated by “Chef Dan’s Fuel”, the waterfront bistro.

In addition, plans call for the launch of Emerald Coast Water Sports this spring, featuring a rental/boat club to provide a unique and affordable alternative to boat ownership. The rental/boat club will offer first class products including new center consoles, dual consoles, deckboats, high performance pontoon boats, stand-up paddle boards as well as kayaks.

Besides the comprehensive facility, service and product expansion, ECMC will also launch an active event social calendar in response to client requests. On tap for 2017 includes an on-water “BoatUp/FloatUp Movie Night,” “Rock the Docks Concert Series,” “Boats and Brunch,” and a host of other exciting activities.

While the moniker and structure of the organization has changed, the new management team at ECMC assures customers and staff that its core values remain the same.

“As a locally owned and operated company, we will always stay true to our full-service principles that are deeply rooted in southern hospitality,” said Doscher. “Our customers and members should expect to be treated with the highest level of professionalism and with the personal touch befitting dear friends. Our goal is to deliver an exceptional high level of service while balancing casual comfort and class in order to truly elevate the Gulf Coast yacht club and boating experience.”

In the coming weeks, changes to the ECMC brand will be more evident across all platforms as the merger transition concludes. In the meantime, please visit www.emeraldcoastmarinecenter.com for more information or call (850) 389-8318.

North Light Yacht Club and Emerald Coast Marine announced a merger to form the Emerald Coast Marine Center, The new company is led by three boating industry veterans including Shawn Talpey, president & chief operating officer; Keri Doscher, vice president; and Jeff Orbin, vice president of marketing and development.

The new partnership creates a comprehensive boat sales, service, rental, marina and yacht club experience for boaters throughout the Florida Panhandle. This collaboration was made to position ECMC to deliver an elevated, seamless boating experience for customers through the combined efficiencies, strengths, talents and resources of both companies.

“Our goal is to provide our clients with the most personalized, responsive and enjoyable boating experience possible, both oceanside and dockside,” said Talpey, who founded Emerald Coast Marine with Doscher in 2015.

Talpey and Doscher previously worked together for several years in senior management roles at Legendary Marine where they helped lead their former employer to become the Boating Industry Top 100 Dealer of the Year for two consecutive years, placing the company in the Top 100 Hall of Fame.

Emerald Coast Marine leased space at North Light Yacht Center in the spring of 2016 to accommodate its new boat sales and service dealership. Conversations ensued the following winter to discuss the long-term benefits and opportunities of creating a joint partnership with North Light Yacht Club. With a shared vision for creating a unique, all-inclusive boating experience to benefit boaters in their market, the principals from both companies discussed and analyzed strategic merger option, with a favorable outcome.

“NLYC was originally established as a dry storage and wet slip marina in 2008. While it excelled in marina operations and customer service, the company’s growth was limited by the lack of an on-site sales and service marine dealership,” said Orbin. “We knew our business would thrive and our clients would benefit from the additional products, services and club enhancements that an on-site marine dealership and more staff capacity could offer. We believe this new partnership with retail expert Emerald Coast Marine is a great decision for our business and especially for all of the customers we collectively serve.”

The next few months will directly reflect the new vision and major enhancements for the facility.

Plans include the recent acquisition of an adjacent property that will be utilized to expand the sales facility by building a new, indoor showroom with additional customer parking. A new service, parts and accessories department will be built within the existing dry storage facility to provide store frontage for marine parts and tackle. The current ship’s store will be consolidated, providing expanded space for a new Yacht Club lounge. The pool and spa area will also receive a major renovation to provide more privacy with poolside cabanas, along with the addition of a tiki bar, the latter of which will be facilitated by onsite waterfront bistro vendor, FUEL.

In addition, plans call for the launch of Emerald Coast Water Sports this spring, featuring a rental/boat club to provide an affordable alternative to boat ownership. The rental/boat club will offer products including new center consoles, dual consoles, deck boats, high-performance pontoon boats, stand-up paddleboards and kayaks.

ECMC will also launch an event social calendar in response to client requests. On tap for 2017 includes an on-water “BoatUp/FloatUp Movie Night,” “Rock the Docks Concert Series,” “Boats and Brunch” and other activities.

“We know exactly what is required to operate a highly successful marina and new boat dealership, and we are very excited to bring this experience and best practice to the regional boating community,” said Doscher. “However, as a locally owned and operated company, we also bring full-service principles that are deeply rooted in southern hospitality. Our customers and members should expect to be treated with the highest level of professionalism and with the personal touch befitting dear friends. Our goal is to deliver an exceptional high level of service while balancing casual comfort and class in order to truly elevate the Gulf Coast yacht club and boating experience.”

In the coming weeks, changes to the ECMC brand will be more evident across all platforms as the merger transition concludes. Visit www.emeraldcoastmarinecenter.com for more information or call 850-389-8318.

  PRESS RELEASE:

‘FUEL’ Opening at North Light Yacht Club

Modern, coastal cuisine to enhance daily dining options and experience.

Source: North Light Yacht Club   |   Mon, 22 Aug 2016, 16:41:06 EDT

DESTIN, Fla., Aug. 22, 2016 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — FUEL at North Light, a new restaurant providing coastal fare with island flare by North West Floridian tastemaker and chef, Dan Pettis, will open at North Light Yacht Club at 113 E John Sims Parkway. The 100 seat, casual, fine dining destination will provide locally sourced food in a relaxed yet upscale atmosphere with expansive, breathtaking, waterfront views.

Chef Dan's FUEL at North Light

Pettis’ southern roots and the landscape of Northwest Florida continually inspire his approach to food and restaurant concept design and lend special significance to his latest venture.

“Food and drink is fuel for the mind, body and soul. The Bayou landscape balances those attributes with the great equalizer – water – a key ingredient in life, cooking and our Floridian culture. With its expansive views and position in the recreational community, North Light Yacht Club provides the perfect backdrop to highlight all those attributes and bring the culinary vision to life with a modern twist,” says Pettis.

This is the third Gulf Coast venture for Pettis who honed his skills under the tutelage of Chef Tim Creehan. As the Chef/Founder of One 20 Bistro and Spork Eatery, Pettis has earned attention and accolades for his unique fusion of Asian and Caribbean flavors. His southern inspired cooking and passion for simple fare with international flare caught the attention of North Light Yacht Club leadership several years ago, ultimately inspiring a completely new vision for club dining.

“With a background in culinary arts and restaurant design, I immediately recognized something special about Chef Pettis’ talent and approach to food craft, which is refreshingly simple yet unpredictably delicious. When I relocated from St. Louis, I learned that we shared the same ideas about culinary artistry, local sourcing and impeccable service,” says North Light Director of Development, Jeff Orbin. “I knew that Chef Pettis could help elevate the dining experience we extend to our members and guests. Recently, the timing proved right for both parties to kick-off an exciting, new collaboration.”

The new space, currently in development, will open in four to six weeks. It will feature a mix of new materials and marine salvage finds to create an upscale but family-friendly space with a modern, nautical vibe replete with casual touches, like chalkboards announcing daily specials and the unique natural ambience of a moonlit harbor.

Versatile seating and enhanced service will make FUEL ideal for lunch with a colleague, dining with friends for dinner, or hosting a gathering for a special occasion.

Open 7 days a week, FUEL is located on the southern side of the Marina in the North Light Yacht Clubhouse. The restaurant will be open for Lunch Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., dinner hours are Monday through Thursday from 5 – 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday Brunch hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Boat side food and drink service, cooler preparation, and “hook-n-cook” options will also be available.

A soft opening is planned. More details will be unveiled to the media and at http://www.northlightmarina.com as the project progresses in the coming weeks.

Q: What does it cost to participate? A: The price is $250.00 (non-member) or $150.00 (member), and includes an instruction manual and t-shirt. Please bring a life jacket, and wear light-soled or non-marking shoes. Classes run from 6:30 to 9:00pm with four(4) Tues-Thur evening classes per session. To sign-up just complete the registration form and mail it to: NCYC - Adult Learn To Sail Program; 11850 Toledo Beach Rd.; LaSalle, Michigan 48145. If you have any questions, e-mail them to: [email protected], or phone (734) 430-9393.

Q: What size boat and are they stable? A: Our Adult Learn To Sail program is taught on a fleet of 26-foot J80 sailboats. We chose the J80, with its 2,900(lb) displacement and 1,400(lb) keels, as our teaching platform because of its stability, and for their large cockpit area.

Q: How many students per boat? A: We typically assign three to four students to a boat, along with two instructors. We maintain a high student/instructor ratio, both for the student's safety and to promote a more positive learning experience.

Q: What do I need to bring to class? A: Recreational clothing suitable to the conditions. Bring sun protection: a hat or cap, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc. Wear closed-toed shoes such as sneakers or boat shoes. Also, it's almost always cooler out on the water, particularly during the evening, so a sweatshirt, fleece jacket, or windbreaker is recommended. We may sail in the rain, so - based on the weather - a rain suit or rain jacket is also a good idea. Also, if you forget something the sailing school usually has extra gear you can borrow; just ask the administrator. And, please bring your own water bottle.

Q: Are life vests provided? A: No. You'll need to provide your own US Coast Guard approved life vest; however, we may have one you can borrow.

Q: Can I eat at the club before or after class? A: Absolutely. Bar food is available; hamburger, pizza, sub sandwiches, etc.

Q: The forecast for my class time does not look favorable, how do I check to see if we will be having class? A: Classes will be held unless prolonged severe weather is unavoidable; 'severe' meaning heavy winds, thunderstorms, etc. Light rain is wet, but not 'severe!' Since you've blocked class out on your busy schedule, we usually wait as long as possible before canceling. Sometimes, instructors might restructure class or activities to work around the weather; so, your best bet is to call or text the administrator at (734) 430-9393, a few hours before class to see if there are any changes likely. The administrator may also communicate via text message or email to the group in the event of a change..

Q: What if I am late for a class? A: The obvious answer is to try not to be late, as the class may be on the water by the time you arrive. But if you are late call, (734) 430-9393, and let the administrator know your approximate arrival time..

Q: I would like to take a course, but I may have to miss a class or two due to my busy schedule is it worth taking the class? A: Missed classes can often be made up in a later session, pending availability; so, the answer is, possibly.

Q: What if we have to cancel? A: Students who cancel 48-hours prior to the program start date will receive a full refund. No refunds are possible beyond this deadline.

What is Adult Learn to Sail all about?

Our program is open to adults 18 years or older wishing to learn to sail. It is geared toward beginning and beginner-intermediate sailors. North Cape Yacht Club offers several sessions throughout the summer months.

North Cape Yacht Club in La Salle, Michigan is home to one of the finest sailing programs in the country for adults and youth; and can proudly say it is the home of both world and national sailing champions.

Our Adult Sailing program gives you an in-depth understanding of sailing, and will instill in you a life-long passion for the water and the sport. Students will experience all the thrills, exhilaration, enjoyment, and satisfaction that come from skippering and crewing a boat..

Our program at North Cape Yacht Club is a unique combination of classroom and on-the-water hands-on instruction and practice. Using the US Sailing Keelboat education curriculum, our class participants learn sailing theory, nomenclature, boat handling, basic safety procedures, vessel rigging and more. Because nothing teaches like experience, the majority of our time is spent on the water, under the supervision of North Cape Sailing School staff. The on-the-water portion of our program is taught on a dedicated fleet of 26ft J80 fixed keel sailboats that are owned by North Cape Yacht Club.

The Adult Learn to Sail Program offers three evening sessions with four-classes per session. Lessons take place at North Cape Yacht Club, situated on the western shore of Lake Erie; just south of Monroe, and only 9-miles north of Toledo.

Be the envy of your shore-side friends this summer as you enjoy and evening sail on Lake Erie!

Where do I go once I learn to sail?

I finished my class but i'm looking for more time on the water.

North Cape Yacht Club offers its members and their families a welcoming clubhouse and facilities, further enhanced (especially for the sailor) by a deep water harbor. NCYC is a 'working club', with an active membership and community of primarily sailors. There are races most Wednesday nights during the summer and skippers are often looking for additional crew members. Also, we have one of the largest cruising fleets on Lake Erie; sailors who enjoy sailing their boats to various ports around Lake Erie and to destinations north. And, on almost any day, you'll see a number of our members taking their boats out for a short day or evening sail. The Adult Learn To Sail administrator or instructors could connect you up with one of the skippers in order to give you additional sailing experience. Also - don't be shy - introduce yourself at the bar. You'll be surprised how easy it is to get out on a boat! North Cape Yacht Club members are very friendly people and enjoy sharing their passion with prospective sailors.

As an added benefit for our Adult Students, introductory memberships are available. This 90-day introductory membership entitles you to enjoy clubhouse and bar, social activities, racing/cruising and grounds privileges at North Cape Yacht Club. It's a great opportunity for you and your fellow students to get together, meet other North Cape members, and discover ways you can become more involved in the North Cape Yacht Club sailing community.

Still can't figure it out? Don't fret. We have something for you, or can customize something if needed. Just call (734)430-9393 or email [email protected]
