Popular Sub-Regions in Greece
Mykonos yacht charters.
Mykonos yacht charters have attracted well-heeled guests time after time with the island's sugar-cubed villages combined with cosmopolitan allure. Mykonos' main attraction is undeniably its vibrant nightlife; amid its myriad seafront bars and clubs, partygoers dance till dawn under rose-gold skies. But this is not the island's only appeal.
Wander around the enchanting vividly-colored houses of Little Venice as the sun sets; savor a candlelit meal at one of its many fine-dining options (such as Nobu); and discover some of the magnificent bays such as Ornos . Of course, there are also a vast array of beaches to bronze on: from the iconic Paradise Beach to the hip and happening Psarou or the more tranquil Agios Sostis .
Vouliagmeni Yacht Charters
A Vouliagmeni yacht charter is highly exclusive, with the idyllic coastal town being a popular superyacht haven for vacations beginning or ending in Athens. Located 13 miles southeast of the capital, yacht charter guests can moor here with ease at its peaceful bay. It's an absolute must whilst you are here to take a dip in the emerald-hued waters of the lake, hugged by soaring cliffs and gently warmed by thermal springs. For the more adventurous, be sure to make the most of the bountiful underwater caves.
Santorini Yacht Charters
A Santorini yacht charter is a firm favorite amongst discerning travelers who fall in love with its endless, dramatic beauty at every turn. Dappled with whitewashed cottages and cerulean-hued domed churches tumbling down the hillsides of Oia to and up to the capital of Firá , guests have no shortage of backdrops for sunset tipples or sights to gaze at. Visiting the world-famous Red beach in nearby Akrotiri village whilst you are here is also a must.
Santorini is also superbly located for cruising towards the crystalline shores of Magganari beach on Ios island: an ideal location for snorkeling or taking out the toys.
Hydra Yacht Charters
Jetsetters have long adored Hydra for yacht charters , largely owing to its heavenly seascapes. The sheltered island enthralls guests onshore, who feel as if they have stepped into a bygone era: no cars roam around, just donkeys who hobble around its picture-perfect, labyrinthine streets and harbor. Soaring escarpments set the scene for sun-drenched meals under a lingering sun, with seafood served so fresh that it's practically dripping straight from the water. Admire also the innumerable secret coves and bays to be found here, many of which can be explored on your tenders.
Milos Yacht Charters
The luminous, volcanic island of Milos and its fabulously turquoise bays are a superyacht favorite, yet remain largely undiscovered to the wider public. But why do the elite cruise towards its shores? For the staggeringly beautiful beaches (more than 70 of them, in fact) perfect for bringing out the water toys.
The spellbinding Kleftiko bay , the geothermal Paliochori beach, and the surreal charms of Sarakiniko beach (with its moon-like surfaces flecked by countless caves) are popular spots here. Abound with ancient ruins, make sure you also pay a visit to the Catacombs of Milos near the village of Tripiti , and the achingly pretty hilltop Venetian Castle of Milos .

Nammos : the most iconic beach club in Greece.
The Portara of Naxos : a doorlike arch that once formed the Temple of Apollo on the island of Naxos.
Cavo Tagoo : one of the most photographed hotels in Greece, carved into the caves on the hills of Mykonos.
The Terrace of Lions : a walkway on the island of Delos that's lined by statues of lions.
The Corinth Canal : a long stretch of water that cuts through the mainland in Corinth.
Flyaway Creative : the hottest restaurant in Santorini.
Who Goes on a Greece Yacht Charter?
Given its staggering popularity, a better question might be: who doesn't? For culture vultures, Greece is packed with majestic archeological ruins and attractions, for sun-worshippers, Greece is home to some of the world's most outstanding beaches that can be enjoyed by couples and families alike, and for hedonists, party havens like Mykonos are buzzing with famous nightclubs and bars.
History and Culture
Greece's location at the confluence of the East and West, as well as its Roman and Ottoman occupations, have had a huge cultural and historical impact that can be still felt today in terms of cuisine and architecture.
Greeks are fiercely proud of their heritage and culture. Marvelous regional traditions permeate mainland Greece and the Greek islands, ranging from religion to music, language to food and even wine, making a Greek yacht charter a truly thrilling experience.
Types of Yacht Charters in Greece
Greece has a very diverse yacht charter market, so you can be sure to find the perfect yacht for you and your charter party. There’s a wide variety of motor yachts for charter , as well as sailing yachts and traditional Turkish gulets.
However, be aware that all yachts wishing to begin or end a yacht charter in Greece must be in possession of a valid Greek charter license. Speak to a yacht charter broker for more information.
If you’re unsure about the type of yacht you’d like to charter, here are some things to consider first.
Motor Yacht Charters in Greece
For those looking to rent a motor yacht in Greece, you’ll find a wide range to choose from.
The most common type of motor yacht you can hire in Greece is a yacht with a planing hull. Stylish, sporty and speedy, they’re great for zipping between islands quickly and ensuring you get the most out of your itinerary. If you’re looking to spend most of your time on land or splashing in the sea, a yacht with a planing hull is the top choice for you.
You’ll also find a superb selection of displacement and semi-displacement superyachts at your disposal (pictured above). These are typically larger and more stable at anchor, with more onboard space for facilities and amenities such as gyms, movie theaters and wellness suites. They’re ideal if you’re chartering with a large group, particularly one that includes children.
Sailing Yacht Charters in Greece
Greece is a playground for sailing yacht rentals , with plenty of yachts available throughout summer. A combination of light winds, clear skies and plenty of anchorages create great sailing conditions across all the islands.
The most popular destinations for sailing charters are typically Corfu, Kefalonia , and the Sporades Islands . Other destinations are equally desirable, including the Cyclades and the Dodecanese islands - but be aware that these areas typically encounter more winds. This means it might be more challenging to drop anchor, and you will have to consider spending more nights in port.
Gulet Yacht Charters in Greece
A gulet is a traditionally Turkish-built sailing yacht made out of wood. They are usually two or three-masted and are typically much larger than your average sailing yacht. Luxury gulet yacht charters in Greece are very appealing alternatives to both sailing and motor yacht charter. While they usually rely on their motor underway, they are very fuel-efficient and don't require a lot of fuel to get from point A to point B. They have displacement hulls which make them very stable and seaworthy, and typically offer lots of volume and open-plan living spaces.
Greek gulet yachts also tend to be cheaper than other types of charter as they sometimes offer all-inclusive or semi-inclusive packages, meaning you don’t need to worry about additional expenses such as food and drink. They also normally include a standard number of cruising hours per day. Plus, their crew are often local to the region that they cruise in, meaning they can double as tour guides and have a lot of expertise and valuable insight into the area.
But be aware- many gulets are Turkish-flagged, meaning they will need to hold a Greek charter license to start or finish a charter in Greece.
How Much Does it Cost to Charter a Yacht in Greece?
The price of a Greece yacht charter vacation varies depending on a number of factors, including the type of yacht, the age of the yacht, and the month in which you choose to charter.
- A Greece motor yacht rental can range from $33,000 to $1.8m per week plus expenses
- A sailing yacht charter in Greece averages from $27,200 to $559k weekly plus expenses
In Greece, VAT on a yacht charter is charged at 24% and is based on the value of the yacht. However, this figure can be reduced if the yacht meets specific criteria.
The three tax brackets are as follows;
- VAT at full 24%: applies to charters that take place in Greek waters without exiting to non-EU or International waters (Staying within the six nautical miles limit)
- VAT at 24%: with a deduction option for time spent outside of EU waters or in international waters.
- Discounted at 50% (VAT 12%):for yachts that spend a minimum of 60 % of charter time/days outside of territorial waters. (Territorial waters are considered: six nautical miles from the mainland and six nautical miles from the territorial waters of an island). This also applies to yachts charters commencing outside EU territory and that remain outside for more than 60% of the chartered days and end their charter in Greece.
When is the Best Time for Greek Yacht Charters?
The best time for Greek yacht rentals is between July and August, but warm weather typically extends well into September and even May in certain destinations. The peak of the charter season is usually July, although August historically has the hottest temperatures.
Between June and August, you can expect highs of 85 - 90 degrees Fahrenheit (26 - 32 degrees Celsius) in Athens, with even hotter temperatures recorded further south.
Where Should I Begin My Greece Yacht Charter?
By far the most common embarkation point for a Greece yacht rental vacation is Athens . Around 90% of the Greek charter fleet has a homeport in Athens, and there are numerous luxury marinas that cater to superyachts.
However, for those looking to charter around the Ionian Islands in destinations like Corfu , Cephalonia and Zakynthos , you may wish to begin your charter closer to your desired destination.
It is possible to begin or end your charter elsewhere in Greece. However, you may have to consider the cost of repositioning as the fleet is mostly based out of Athens.
If you want to meet the yacht elsewhere – for example, Santorini, Mykonos – you can expect to pay a hefty repositioning fee. It’s generally more economical to begin your Greek yacht charter in Athens and spend the day cruising to your desired start point, enjoying your yacht to the fullest, and soaking up the scenery as you travel underway.
Where to Find a Yacht Slip in Greece
Around the main yachting hubs of Greece, you’ll find plenty of marinas that cater to a variety of yachts of different sizes. However, be aware that Greece doesn’t have as many big marinas as destinations such as the South of France or Italy , and demand for slips can be very high in peak season.
- Zea Marina: located in Piraeus, Athens, which is the largest seaport in Greece and one of the largest harbors in all of Europe. It's a hive of activity, offering 670 slips up to 150m.
- Athens Marina : revered marina, accommodating 130 slips measuring up to 130m. Provides plenty of amenities on land, including a helipad service.
- Flisvos Marina: award-winning and perfect for starting and ending a charter. Located 6km from Athens city center, with a 303 slip capacity (up to 70m). Well-equipped facilities and high-end restaurants at your disposal when you dock here.
- Kos Marina: close to the enchanting island's old harbor, this marina has a capacity for up to 250 slips with a maximum length of 80m. Provides an excellent array of facilities and dining options.
- Rhodes Marina: world-class marina complete with a stunning backdrop. Can accommodate a staggering 382 yachts with a maximum length of 120m.
Where to End a Greece Yacht Charter
Beginning or ending your yacht charter in Athens, one of the most exciting cities in the world, is a popular choice. Be sure to explore this historic destination in all its glory before you leave.
How to Book Your Yacht Charter in Greece
Greece is one of the most popular charter destinations in the Mediterranean. Therefore, advanced booking (three to six months ahead) is absolutely essential in order to secure your dream yacht on your preferred dates in the perfect destination.
When it comes to Greece yacht rentals, many charterers are repeat clients; meaning they’ve already booked the yacht once, fallen in love with the yacht and its crew, and chosen to return again to explore a new destination. This means that competition for yachts is fierce and it’s even more crucial to kickstart the booking process early.
Don’t forget that your choice of yachts in Greece is comparatively smaller than Italy or the South of France since all yachts beginning or ending a charter yacht in Greece must have a Greek charter license.
That said, it is possible for a foreign-flagged yacht to charter in Greece so long as the charter begins and ends in international waters, such as Italy and Albania for yacht charters around the Ionian Islands or Turkey for charters around the Aegean islands.

Greece Yacht Charter Q&A
Most itineraries for yachts around Greece begin in Athens because around 90% of the charter fleet in Greece has a homeport in Athens. Therefore, the yachts are usually based in the country’s capital, and you will most likely have to pay a repositioning fee if you’d like to begin elsewhere in Greece.
A Greek yacht charter license is a special permit that allows yachts to begin and end a yacht charter in Greece. Not all yachts hold a Greek charter license, so you will need to speak to your charter broker for more information about starting and finishing a charter in Greek waters.
You could start a yacht charter in Mykonos, but you will most likely have to pay a hefty repositioning fee as most yachts have their homeport in Athens. To get the most out of your yacht charter, it’s usually best to begin in Athens and spend the night underway to reach Mykonos.
The most popular destinations for sailing vacations in Greece are the Ionian Islands. However, great sailing conditions exist across the country, and other popular hotspots include the Dodecanese Islands, the Sporades Islands and the Saronic Islands.
The standard Value Added Tax (VAT) is 24%, and it is calculated based on the value of the yacht. The VAT can be reduced in certain circumstances; read our guide above.
The Cyclades Islands of Santorini, Mykonos, Paros and Naxos are great for exploring on a luxury yacht charter during summer. The best times to visit are between June and September when you can expect long days and warm sea temperatures. The beach clubs of Mykonos will be in full swing, and the island of Santorini will be alive with activity.

What are the best Greek Islands to explore?
With more than 6,000 islands to explore, spanning major island chains such as the Cyclades Islands, the Aegean Islands, the Sporades Islands, the Ionian Islands, the Dodecanese Islands, and the Saronic Islands, there’s a Greek locale to match every desired experience. Whether you want an off-the-beaten-track feel or want to be in the heart of all the action, Greece offers the ideal spot. Some of the most popular with yachting enthusiasts include:
Considered one of the most dazzling and exclusive of all the Greek islands, Santorini offers charm in abundance. Explore cobbled streets drenched in bougainvillea, party at decadent beach clubs, or enjoy dining at some of Greece’s most spectacular restaurants.
Sandy beaches lapped by turquoise waters, striking interiors, and pretty whitewashed buildings are the hallmarks of Mykonos. This Greek Island is known for its ultra-hip nightspots that attract internationally acclaimed DJs, refined beach restaurants, and label-laden boutiques.
Pretty Crete is one of the largest and most populous islands in Greece, known for its rich culture, superb cuisine, and spectacular National Park. Explore cities steeped in history and fascinating ancient ruins such as Knossos, first occupied during the Neolithic era, 7,000 B.C.
Considered one of Greece’s most romantic destinations, pretty Hydra will seduce you with its quaint towns and relaxed atmosphere. Hydra is a car-free island, giving it the feel of a bygone area that over the years has attracted renowned artists and jet setters in equal measure.
There’s lots going on in Rhodes, with plenty to see and do, making it a popular yachting destination. Rhode’s Medieval Old Town is a must-visit and is regarded as one of the best-fortified cities in Europe. On Rhodes, you’ll also find the ancient Lindos Acropolis.
While not technically a Greek island, mainland Greece should not be ignored. Athens is brimming with Greek culture and mythology, exclusive restaurants, designer boutiques, and world-class offerings. A must-visit is the Acropolis of Athens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and considered the most complete ancient Greek monumental complex.

Il s'agit de votre première location ?
The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is due at the time of the final charter payment. Under MYBA terms, this sum is usually equivalent to 30 per cent of the total charter fee, but may be up to 40 per cent in some cases.
Intended to cover the operating expenses of a charter as explained under Charter Terms, such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees and ad hoc incidentals, the APA will be given to the captain before the start of your charter. The Captain will ensure that the yacht is fully fuelled and provisioned when you step on board. While an up-to-date summary of accounts can be requested at any time during your charter, a full set of accounts will normally be submitted by your captain at the end of the cruise. If, during the charter, the expenditure exceeds the sum already paid, additional cash funds will be required at once.
All outstanding bills from the yacht charter should be settled in cash or by bank transfer before your final disembarkation. Of course, any remaining credit at the end of your charter will be reimbursed to you in full. On request, transfer arrangements to and from the yacht can be made by Burgess or by the yacht’s captain, payment for which will be deducted from your APA.

“We had a great time in Greece”
We had a great time in Greece, the first three days we had constant 20-25knots of wind, so we were able to do a lot of sailing. The boat was also in good condition and everything in working order…the boat did however look a bit older than a 2018 mode…

Greece Yacht Charters
Greece is a country in Southeast Europe, which is located in the Balkans. The country is embossed in four seas: the Aegean Sea, the Ionian Sea, the Cretan Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea . Due to its advantageous location, Greece possesses one of the longest coastlines in the world. This outstanding feature makes the country an incredibly famous sailing destination. Beautiful golden beaches along the island, emerald transparent waters, pine forests in the mountains, and extremely pleasant weather will not leave any sailor indifferent. Deciding to charter a shining yacht, you make an investment in unforgettable memories and the desire to come back as a matter of course.
The reasons for which one must visit Greece are difficult to count as it has a lot to offer for everyone. Rich history, glorious past, impressive ancient buildings, delicious food and wine, an abundance of celebrations and festivals are waiting for you to explore the picturesque region. The pristine nature of Athens, Volos, Corfu, Kavala, and other Greek cities and perfect weather conditions create an ideal opportunity to rent a boat and melt into the pleasure.
Sailing Conditions in Greece
Being situated in Southeast Europe, Greece welcomes sailors from around the globe to feel all the benefits of the Mediterranean climate. Hot and dry summers with rare precipitation and clear skies provide a good opportunity for yacht rental without any fear of possible rains and extreme winds. The average temperature during the summer period never drops below 20 ºC even at night. It is impossible to miss such great weather and not to go far in the sea on your sailboat to enjoy the 30 ºC heat in the daytime. Greek winters are usually colder, especially in those areas that are close to mountains. But they are not lingering and not so cold to somehow disturb dedicated sailors. The sailing season usually starts in March and continues up to November, bringing different sailing conditions to the island.
Best Times for Vacation in Greece
Having an intention to make the most of your sailboat vacation in the breathtaking destination, it is necessary to get acquainted with the weather conditions of the desired period. As a rule, the peak season of sailing occurs in the summer months and up to the end of September . This time features extremely high air and water temperature and a huge number of sailors even in the remote marinas. By the way, Greek summers are an ideal time for those who are ready to forget about sleep and party the whole night. One of the most important things to consider is that in July, the northern wind Meltemi comes to the shore and creates many hazardous obstacles for sailing.
Spring and autumn wind speeds and summer conditions force you to choose this time period if you are looking for peace and quiet. There is no extreme heat and strong winds, as well as no abundance of people. You still can enjoy going bareboat without any unpleasant conditions and immerse yourself into the same active and loud festivals and celebrations.
Sailing Difficulty Level
Greece has already gained its high popularity as one of the world’s best sailing destinations . Because of its climate and location, the country represents great sailing options for beginners and professional sailors alike. The weather changes require sailors to explore the weather forecast beforehand to select the desired time for coming and know what to expect. The level of difficulty is mostly predetermined by the Meltemi wind of 6-8 force. Blowing from July to September may scary fresh sailors and even become a challenge for experienced professionals. If you are not highly skillful and just do not have enough confidence to manage the vessel by yourself, consider booking a boat in spring or autumn. The absence of powerful winds will not spoil your first sailing experience but contribute to positive impressions.
If you are still not ready to face the open water, 12 Knots is glad to provide you with the help of a qualified skipper and an opportunity to hire a crew . Being focused on the needs and desires of every sailor, we offer either a skipper to help to refresh the memories of handling a boat or a complete training process in our sailing school. Both options are delivered at their best quality and reasonable price.
Main Charter Bases
Greece is an incredibly important sailing destination for 12 Knots. Welcoming thousands of happy sailors every year, the country has a lot of well-equipped marinas and good mooring options. Depending on the desired part of the country, preferred city, and climate peculiarities, you may select a perfect one. The team of 12 Knots spreads their professional services on more than 30 bases along the coast. You may rent a yacht or boat at bases situated in the most famous Greek cities and islands:
- Santorini and many others
Boat Types for Charters
Having a great number of bases in possession, 12 Knots aims to provide sailors with powerful sailboats from leading manufacturers. Approximately 6,000 vessels are now available for charter in Greece. Sailing yachts, catamarans, powerboats, gulets, and houseboats are waiting for your booking. Do not hesitate and contact our team to become an owner of a white shining boat at a good cost. It is advisable to perform booking beforehand to avoid disappointment and misunderstanding.
Other Information about Greece Sailing
Before diving into the images of future perfect sailing vacations, every sailor should be aware of some essential information about the intended place.
- The official language is Greek, although English is also widely spoken, especially in tourist places.
- Greece is the Euro zone; that’s why the official currency is Euro.
- Greece is under the Schengen Agreement, which enables US citizens to enter the country without a visa and stay for no more than 90 days. For citizens of other countries, the consultation of the specialist is needed.

Greece Charter Yacht Itineraries
With over 6,000 islands to explore, Greece offers a variety of private luxury cruise itineraries. If you find it hard to make choice, then contact Nicholson Yachts. We can match you with the right charter yacht and cruise itinerary for you.
If flying into Athens, the Saronic and Cyclades Islands are the most convenient. Accordingly, they are the most popular Greece yacht charter destinations. These islands are easy to reach. As a result there is much to explore within a week's time frame. Beginning your Greece yacht charter in Athens to either Ionian or Dodecanese Islands requires at least 10 to 14 days minimum. However, both the Ionian and Dodecanese Islands have international airports. Thereby allowing easy access to embark and disembark.
Saronic Islands - Located 25 miles from Athens.
Major islands include: Poros, Hydra, Spetses, Aegina.
Because of their proximity to Athens, the Saronic Islands were one of Greece’s first island vacation destinations. As a result, they remain a popular cruising destination today. Recommended time frame of 5-7 days.
Cyclades Islands - Located 45 miles southeast of Athens.
This island group consists of 220 islands, the major islands are:
Mykonos, Santorini, Sifnos, Serifos, Naxos, Paros, Antiparos, Delos, Amorgos, Milos, Folegandros.
These islands are further apart than Saronic Island group and because of this, the distance should be considered when chartering a yacht. Additionally, the wind is another point to consider. Because the Cyclades are located in the center of the Aegean Sea, they lie unprotected by the mountainous mainland. When meltémi kicks up, it results in rough weather and potential for the Port-Authorities to impose sailing bans. This is a strong, seasonal north wind of Force 5 to 6, sometimes higher. The meltémi usually occurs in late July through August.
Dodecanese Islands - Located in southeastern Aegean Sea.
12 Islands located about 250 miles from Athens. If you begin from Athens, then it requires at least two weeks of charter time. Major islands include: Rhodes, Kos, Kalymnos, Kastellorizo, Symi
Sporades Islands - Located in the Northwest Aegean Sea.
Islands: Skiathos, Skopelos, Skiros, Alonissos.
Ionian Islands - Located off the West Coastline of Central Greece
Situated to the south of Peloponnese. Corfu, Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Lefkada, Paxi, Kythira.
The Ionian Islands are approximately 200 miles from Athens. If departing from Athens, the transit requires an expensive transit through the Corinth Canal and charterers should plan for a 10-14 day charter minimum.
Greece Charter Yacht Season
April through October
Peak season is early July into late August.

Yacht Charter Greece
Essential Info for Chartering in Greece
Most yachts are based in Athens. The majority of the crewed charter Greece departs from Athens to the Cyclades and the Saronic Gulf. Despite the Cyclades being the most inquired location because of the attractive islands of Mykonos and Santorini, a little research can go a long way for private yacht charters Greece. Firstly, the iconic islands are quite crowded in the peak months and even the limitation of the crew ship numbers hasn’t significantly brought down the visitor numbers to the key islands. The strong Meltemi winds make the journey from Athens a subject of elements, inquire about actually starting in Mykonos and Santorini . As the availability is subject to previous charter ending nearby or ideally in your preferred location, it is advisable to hold the purchase of airline tickets until a boat is secured.
The distances between Greek islands are quite considerable, a crewed motor yacht charter from Athens to Cyclades cruising at 12 knots usually does day hops of 3-4 hours, the time increases for catamarans cruising at ca 6 knots to 4-6 hours. For this reason, many charters, especially involving first time charters, visit the Saronic Gulf – Hydra, Spetses, Poros. It is possible to cross from the Saronic Gulf to the Cyclades, which is usually done when Meltemi changes the plans of yachts from Athens.
The third most popular crewed charter destination in Greece is the Ionian Sea. The fleet of permanent yachts, especially catamarans, is limited. It is possible to charter from Athens, with the decisive factors being the availability of crossing of the Corint Canal which has been closed for reconstruction in 2021, open for only a few months in 2022 and uncertainty about being navigable in 2023.
Selecting Where to Charter in Greece
I want to see Santorini and Mykonos, my tickets are purchased for fixed dates three months from now in August and I need to start and finish in Athens, chartering a catamaran.
This is one of the most common inquiries, and one of the hardest to fulfill. Why?
- Time to charter – with 3 months to charter, your best options are long gone. Ideally book 9-12 months before the charter
- Flights vs Charter Location – with the distance between Athens and Santorini being 150 miles, the itinerary might not be possible due to weather, especially if we want to do Mykonos as well. Ideally, you’ll want to fly to Mykonos or Santorini or at least not plan fixed date island activities.
- Fixed dates- One day up or down can completely change the offer of yachts available – you might need just that one that already has another charter booked for the day before you’re planning to return. It is a great idea to have your charter booked before you purchase your tickets.
- Catamaran and long distances – as someone who does Athens – Santorini fairly regularly, it’s a great sail – for sport sailing. You’re on the open Aegean Sea and hiding behind islands is possible but further increases the distance – count 24 hours of sail one way and divide among the days of charter (24 hours x 2 ways / 7 days = 7 hours of sailing per day with a catamaran). Not a pleasurable experience.
- Time of year – Santorini in August is equivalent to Times Square on New Year’s Eve. It can be a fantastic place if you have the correct expectations. There are 6,000 islands in Greece – plenty of alternatives for high end restaurants, history, Greek cuisine and peaceful or more popular places. Notice places like Milos and Lefkada are being increasingly crowded as well.
- Despite all the above – inquire. We’re well connected with local providers in all areas and are able to provide non-public offers or creatively fulfill your requirements.
When it comes to yacht charters, the price range is about as wide as the open sea itself. The cost depends on factors like the type of yacht, its size, and whether you’re going for an all-inclusive package or not. In this article, we cut through the waves of information and get straight to the point by looking at specific yachts currently available for charter in Greece .
Greece is a country with a rich history and vibrant culture. From ancient ruins and museums to traditional tavernas and folk dances, there’s always something new to discover. Greece has over 6,000 beautiful islands and navigating them is an Odyssey of a lifetime. This article aims to present the best Greek charter itineraries in a logical breakdown.
Boots on The Ground Update: Charter Season 2024 and What's There To Know About Greek Yacht Charters
The summer yacht charter season in Greece is developing in an unexpected manner, with an unprecedented number of higher-end yachts posting price reductions – an unthinkable development given the record-setting 2022 Summer Med Season.
The increased airplane fares are partly to blame, in connection to the ongoing issues in the Greek infrastructure – not enough marinas to match the demand on other islands and continued over-tourism of key Cycladic charter locations. In addition, 2022 and 2023 have seen record increases in the numbers of new yachts – some 235 crewed boats were added to the yacht charter fleet, while most of the older yacht inventory got a refurbishment – in part also due to the EU funds promoting tourism.
The key events in the Greek yacht charter industry in 2024
- The cost of a July airplane ticket went from $900 to $1,400, year over year.
- US inflation of 4-9% year over year weakens the purchasing position of the major charter market
- Continued negative coverage of key Greek areas, from overcrowding of Santorini to DK Oyster restaurant scams on Mykonos continues to dominate the headlines
- Turkey – following the Ukrainian conflicts, Turkey offered a safe haven to many Russian-owned yachts that risked being confiscated in Greece. In addition to the competitive VAT in Turkey (1% in Turkey vs 12% in Greece – in constant threat to be increased to full standard 24% with possible retroactivity of signed charters executed in future) – visit https://myturkishcharter.com for up-to-date and complete yacht offer of Turkish charter yachts. Greece has found itself in between the EU legislators and non-EU Turkish competition.
- Santorini Marina – still in construction, unknown delays
- Corinth Canal – successfully reopened June 22 after repeated construction works on 22 and 23! after walls repeatedly collapsed due to landslides.
- Slow Opening of New Marinas – Licencing issues – limited births restrict navigation of charter vessels
- Inflation of the Charter Fleet following record-setting 2022 yacht returns and EU subsidies for tourism that were leveraged for the purchase of new vessels
- Increase of Ultra High Net Worth Individuals casting a spotlight – just Mykonos has seen Elon Musk, George Clooney, Christian Bale Matt Damon, Chris & Liam Hemsworth.
- New, Upcoming Locations offer an alternative to the – “by now dead romantic idea of Mykonos and Santorini.” Antiparos is a hot charter location frequented by Tom Hanks, Jeff Bezos and Anderson Cooper. Anafi, Ikaria, Kythira, and Nisiros are coming up and the clients are more educated and receptive to the idea of chartering off the beaten and crowded paths.
- A New Client Preference for Secluded Locations – A storm of documentaries have our clients requesting new experiences – we thank My Greek Odyssey and Peter Meneas on a journey of discovering his Kytherian descent and going much beyond and more with his yacht Mia Zoi or Costas Spiliadis – chef and owner of Estatorio Milos with the yacht Milos at Sea enable us to offer new immersive experiences creating not tourists, but travelers.
- New Experiences – from having one or multiple jetskis onboard your yacht to chartering a Greek temple for your event, things are just easier to do in Greece. We’ve considerably expanded our concierge offering to accommodate requests ranging from beach horseback riding and spearfishing to luxury cars and entertainment events.

Luxurious sailing yacht is one of the most exhilarating and rewarding ways to explore the seas. Powered by he wind, sailboats require less fuel and engage all your senses. You will feel like a true adventurer as you watch your destination come into view.
Santorini is one of the main magnets for a charter to Greece. The iconic panoramic views over the Three Bells of Fira church belong to the most recognized places in the world. However, it’s not that easy to get there. Santorini is on the outer ridge of the Southern Cyclades facing Crete and charters from Athens are always weather dependent. When to go, where to start your charter, and how to make your Santorini yacht charter a success? We’ve summarized the information here.

The Cyclades
As one of Greece’s most popular yachting destinations, the Cyclades are home to popular spots like Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, and Naxos. Despite their charm and unquestionable aesthetics, they are not as busy as other popular sailing destinations like France, Italy, or the Caribbean.

Saronic Gulf & Eastern Peloponnese
The Saronic Gulf is one of Greece’s most picturesque seaside destinations, with stunning crystal-clear waters, sandy beaches, and a wealth of activities. The most famous island in this region is Hydra, which is known for its beautiful scenery and lack of cars (there are only 100 on the entire island!). There are also plenty of opportunities for water sports, visiting archaeological sites (ancient Corinth, Epidavros Theater), and of course, dining on fresh Mediterranean seafood.

Looking for a charter that’s both easy to get to from Athens and has a little something for everyone? Then look no further than the Saronic Gulf and Eastern Peloponnese islands.
The Dodecanese region of Greece is one of the country’s most beautiful and one of the least explored. The archipelago is home to several islands still largely unknown to tourists, which means you can explore top locations without fighting the crowds!
If you’re looking for a less-crowded, more authentic Greek yacht charter experience, you’ve come to the right place. The Dodecanese islands are the perfect place to unwind on your next vacation.
The largest island, Rhodes, is known for its beaches and nightlife, while Karpathos is popular for its hiking trails. The other islands have their own unique charms as well, but no matter which one you choose to visit, you’re sure to have a great time!
Whether you want an adventure or a relaxing getaway with the family, you’ll find everything you need in this beautiful area of Greece!

Ionian Islands
Located on the western part of the Greek mainland, the Ionian complex of islands comprises well-known spots such as Corfu and Zante, as well as the lesser-known islands of Ithaki, Kefalonia, and Paxi.
The culture, cuisine, and language of the islands are influenced by both Greek and Italian culture. When it comes to sailing spots, you can expect crystal clear waters with beautiful aquamarine colors that contrast with the lush vegetation. If you enjoy water spots, snorkeling or scuba diving are both great options!
The Ionian islands are a great alternative to the Cyclades during the hot summer months since they are not affected by the Meltemi winds.

If you are even remotely interested in archaeology then a trip to Greece is something that you simply have to take! There is a huge array of museums to explore, so this is quite possibly the perfect high-end historical charter vacation for you.
Exploring Greece From The Water
If you, like many others, have realized that Greece is one of the countries where its coastal locations are sometimes easier to get to from the water, you have probably discovered that chartering a yacht in Greece is the ideal option! It is the perfect way to see an amazingly beautiful land without being limited to a fixed itinerary on a cruise ship or tour. There are well over a thousand islands in Greece, with just a fraction of these being inhabited. When you first experience the coast and islands, what will first strike you is how different each is from the next.
Choose from the Ionian Islands or the Aegean yacht charter cruising grounds of the Saronic Islands, the Cyclades, the Dodencanese, and the Sporades.
The ideal yacht charter time in the Aegean Islands is in early summer to avoid the Meltemi, a strong wind that can spontaneously blow for hours or days! You will become immersed in the culture and daily life in the small port villages that are the center of activities on many of the Greek islands. The entire region is steeped in history, and a truly unparalleled cruising ground for your Greek yacht charter.

A Guide To Private Yacht Charters In Greece
Azure waters, picturesque islands, and a rich cultural heritage; there’s a reason Greece is a magnet for discerning travelers. Whether you want to charter a private yacht and explore hidden treasures dotted between idyllic islands, or deep dive into Greece’s ancient history on land, this Mediterranean paradise promises endless possibilities for foodies, outdoor adventurers, nature lovers, history enthusiasts and more.
Greece can be explored from a base on the land or sea. Our land based Greece tours might appeal to you if the allure of staying in five star hotels or luxury lodges which provide maximum space and comfortable facilities appeals to you. On the other hand, our private yacht charters ensure optimal privacy for you and your group and as you’re always on the move, greater opportunities to see more of Greece’s highlights.
While you’ll still have the chance to explore a selection of Greece’s 6,000 islands on private boating excursions, staying in hotels and lodges could be preferable if you’re unsure about sleeping on moving waters. There’s also less chance of unforeseen circumstances, like high winds and sudden changes in weather conditions, affecting your itinerary as there will be other islands and other activities nearby that avoid the challenges out at sea.
Yet private yachts have their benefits too. The chance of major unforeseen circumstances are slim and the experienced crew on board will always have a backup plan if needed. As well as giving you the chance to enjoy your journey with a high level of privacy, you’ll also be able to visit lesser-known islands more easily and avoid the crowds that come with the popular Greek islands and coastal towns that can get more crowded.
Whether you choose a base on the land or sea, know that your bespoke tour of Greece can be tailored to your group. In this article, we focus on Greece private yachts and offer insights into Blue Parallel’s three step process from start to finish…
1. Planning A Yacht Charter In Greece
All of our bespoke tours start with a phone call. Once we have a greater understanding of your requirements and desires, we can select the perfect yacht for you and design an itinerary tailor-made to your group.
Selecting The Perfect Yacht
Our team of travel experts travel year-round to ensure we are working with the best guides and hosts, that our portfolio of properties only includes the very best, and that we have access to the latest, insider experiences. In this case, we carefully vet the yachts in our portfolio, as well as their crew.
The yachts we have hand selected are either new on the market or have been refurbished to the highest standards. They boast clean, contemporary finishes with minimalistic decor so as to not take away from the breathtaking views that surround you morning, noon and night. However, we understand every client has their own taste and we can cater to the design preferences of each group.
Depending on the size of your group, preferred bedding configuration and required facilities, we will work closely with our contacts on the ground in Greece to match you with your perfect yacht.
Designing A Bespoke Itinerary
The unique experiences and immersive adventures available in Greece are endless: for foodies who want to feast on the freshest fish and learn traditional cooking techniques in a private home in Paros; for history enthusiasts who will delight in wandering along cobbled Byzantine footpaths or embarking on a private archaeological tour of Delos Island; for nature lovers who yearn to discover deserted beaches by the uninhabited island of Polyaigos or witness magnificent sunsets while hiking in Santorini; and cosmopolitan groups wanting to visit exclusive beach clubs in Mykonos and partake in luxury shopping.
With so much to choose from, planning the perfect private yacht itinerary in Greece can be intimidating. However, with over 20 years’ experience designing bespoke luxury itineraries and 10 designing tailor-made itineraries to the Mediterranean, our team of travel experts have the knowledge, expertise and relationships with on-the-ground experts required to design your ideal tour.
As soon as we have an understanding of your expectations and preferences – whether you’re interested in cultural wonders, natural beauty, epic outdoor adventures, culinary awakenings, insider experiences, or a combination of everything – we will design an itinerary with a customized day-to-day programme bespoke to you.
Some examples of the insider experiences you can access in Greece include:
- In Athens, enjoy an exclusive private opening of the Acropolis Museum before boarding your yacht.
- Hike along the caldera from Santorini to Oia.
- Visit a local home in Paros and discover the region’s ancient weaving techniques.
- Witness a traditional musical performance in a spectacular setting in Santorini.
- Indulge in a private volcanic wine tasting at an exclusive vineyard near Akrotiri.
- Learn how to cook traditional Greek cuisine in a local farm house while taking in panoramic views of Paros.
- Swim in remote covers near the uninhabited island of Renia.
- Enjoy a specially prepared barbecue lunch on the Kolona beach, a secluded stretch of golden sand and sapphire waters on Kythnos Island.
- Attend a private clay pottery class in the home of a local artist in Sifnos.
2. Seamless Execution
Throughout the duration of your trip, you’ll have access to an assigned and dedicated team comprised of your personal travel expert, a host in each destination you visit, passionate local guides, historians and scholars in each location, and behind-the-scenes logistical experts who are in charge of monitoring every step of your journey.
Together, they ensure your detailed itinerary unfolds as intended, from reservations at the top restaurants and guided, behind-the-scenes tours at historical sites, to unique experiences with local families and special surprises during your outdoor excursions.
Your team will be available 24-hours a day from start to finish and will be in constant contact with your dedicated and experienced captain and crew. If your charter is challenged with unforeseen circumstances, our experts will work with your captain to provide you with a selection of alternative activities or routes.
3. Completing The Paperwork
To ensure you have the best experience from the moment you start planning your luxury Greece tour with us, to the moment you’re back home and reflecting on the highlights of your journey, we will handle all of the paperwork and payments involved with your yacht charter in Greece.
This includes organizing paying the yacht fees and the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) lump sum, checking the correct insurance is in place, and completing all of the necessary paperwork on your behalf.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What kind of experiences are there to enjoy on a private yacht charter in greece.
A luxury yacht charter Greece getaway is never boring, offering a blend of beautiful beaches, historical sites, and the perfect yacht experience. The Ionian Islands – including Corfu, Paxos, Lefkas, Ithaka, Kefalonia, and Zakynthos – have a cooler and lusher climate than other parts of Greece. Historically occupied by the Venetians, French, and British, they offer a rich melting pot of culture, cuisine, and architecture. Hike among olive groves and try your hand at olive picking and making your own oil. Tour an ancient harbour town and taste the unique local delicacies. For the more active on board your Greece luxury yacht trip, Lefkas has a growing reputation as a challenging and rewarding hotspot for advanced kite surfers.
The Cyclades, a popular destination for motor yacht charters and sailing yachts, offer white-sand beaches, striking architecture, and a varied pace of living. Delos, an uninhabited island in the middle of the archipelago, is a historical World Heritage Site worth a tour during your Greece luxury yacht charter. If you are feeling energetic, hike up the vertiginous cliffs of Santorini to spectacular views and photogenic houses shaped like bright white sugar cubes with sky-blue rooftops. The island is also a popular spot for wine tasting and tours. The dive site at Dragonisi Island Caverns off the south-east coast of Mykonos is a haven for scuba divers looking to observe some of the local aquatic wildlife.
The Saronic Gulf Islands, easily accessible from the main airport in Athens, are known for their light winds and summer sailing conditions while the forested hinterland of Poros is a great spot for activities like hiking and cycling.
The 24 islands of the Sporades in the north-west of the Aegean Sea include Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonnisos, and Skyros. Nature is in abundance, offering sailing vacations with opportunities to see dolphins and Mediterranean monk seals.
The Dodecanese is known for its Byzantine churches, ancient archaeological sites, and medieval castles, thanks to its proximity to western Asia. Including Rhodes, Kos, Symi, Nisyros, and Kalymnos, the Dodecanese has a longstanding maritime trading tradition and rich cultural medley which is worth experiencing while on your luxury yacht charter Greece adventure. Explore the degrees of ancient history and enjoy the summer winds while sailing through these historical sites.
Rent a yacht in Greece: when is the best time to enjoy a yacht rental in Greece?
The ideal time to embark on your yacht holiday in Greece is between May and September, however the weather and water can still be warm enough in October. During these months, you’ll find perfect conditions for sailing, with light winds and warm temperatures. Although it is spread out as a country, with island group microclimates, average temperatures in Greece range between highs of approximately 25C (77F) in May to 34C (93F) in August. The sea temperature in June is usually around 22C (72F), peaking at 25C (77F) in August.
Popular Destinations and Activities on Your Greek Charter Vacation
With thousands of islands to explore, both inhabited and uninhabited, a luxury Greece yacht rental offers a range of experiences to suit all tastes and paces. Choose from a variety of charter yachts, from sleek motor yachts to elegant sailing yachts, each equipped with a selection of water toys to enhance your experience. Although the main international transport hub is in Athens, Greece has numerous archipelagos to explore, including the Ionian Islands to the west, the Cyclades – perhaps the country’s most famous archipelago, the Saronic Gulf Islands, the Sporades, and the Dodecanese.
What are the major yachting ports in Greece?
Greek charter destinations are numerous and varied. Some of Greece’s most famous spots to visit on a superyacht include Mykonos, Kos, Santorini, Rhodes, Corfu, and Crete. You may find yourself at anchor for much of your Greece yacht hire, but there are also a growing number of marinas capable of catering to superyachts.
How much does it cost to charter a yacht in the Greek Islands?
The cost of chartering a yacht in the Greek Islands can vary widely, influenced by factors such as the type of yacht, duration of the charter, season, and additional services requested. For instance, sailing yachts typically offer a different price range compared to luxurious motor yacht charters. A week-long charter on a mid-range sailing yacht might start from around €15,000, while high-end superyachts can command prices upwards of €100,000 per week, especially during peak summer months.
Moreover, larger yachts equipped with amenities like jet skis, water toys, and advanced navigation systems can also influence the cost. It’s essential to note that these costs usually exclude additional expenses such as food, fuel, docking fees, and crew gratuities.
For the most accurate and up-to-date pricing, prospective charterers are encouraged to consult with a specialized yacht charter broker, who can provide tailored options based on specific needs and preferences, ensuring an unforgettable experience amidst the natural beauty and rich history of the Greek Islands.

Greek Island Hopping on a Yacht Charter
With the summer holidays on the horizon, why not consider a trip to the magnificent Greek islands? Chartering a yacht for a private cruise and island hopping is one of the most enjoyable experiences you can ever have. You can explore some of Greece’s beautiful coastlines from your own boat, but you’ll also be able to visit remote islands as well as much-loved tourist spots. Greece’s stunning scenery, rich history, safe environment, great culture, and irresistible cuisine make it the perfect destination for an unforgettable summer holiday. With this helpful guide, you’ll be able to make the most of your Greek island-hopping yacht-holiday and enjoy a truly unique experience.
Island hopping adventure in the Greek Islands – Why Greece is the perfect destination?
Greece is one of the best places in the world for island hopping. With over 6,000 islands and islets scattered around the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea in close proximity, Greece has no shortage of beautiful coastlines and secluded coves to explore. The crystal-clear waters, picturesque harbors, and stunning beaches make the perfect backdrop for a yacht charter holiday. Plus, the Mediterranean climate makes it ideal for sailing and lounging in the sun with temperatures rarely falling under 18°C in Spring and Autumn, and well above 25°C in Summer. Whether you’re looking for a romantic retreat or an invigorating adventure, there’s something for everyone in Greece. Finally, the sailing culture of Greeks can make your Greek island hopping charter an even more enjoyable experience. From friendly locals to enthusiastic skippers, you’ll be able to explore the captivating shores of Greece with professionals that know the waters like their own back yard.
Island hopping in the Cyclades
The Cyclades are the most famous group of Greek islands and one of the best destinations for a sailing holiday. These islands are located in the center of the Aegean Sea and they are known for their beautiful beaches, picturesque villages, fascinating archaeological sites with ancient ruins, and lively nightlife. Island hopping here is a real adventure, full of surprises and you can easily sail from one island to the other in a day. The relatively small distances between the islands means that you don’t have to spend too much time sailing from one island to the other. Instead, you can spend more time enjoying the breathtaking views, crystal-clear waters, and beauties each island has to offer.
Keep in mind though, that the weather tends to be quite windy during the summer months, so you should take this into consideration when making your plans. Also, the fact that many of these islands are famous and popular, may lead to overcrowding in the heart of summer.
Island hopping in the Ionian
The Ionian islands are located in the western part of Greece and they offer a different kind of experience. With their world-famous turquoise beaches, tranquil seas, and lush green nature — these islands are perfect for those who wish to relax and explore the beauty of Greece. From secluded coves to wild mountain trails, Ionian islands have something for everyone. A yacht charter is one of the best ways to explore these islands and discover their hidden gems. Whether it’s sailing around Lefkada, discovering the beauty of Corfu, or exploring the serene island of Zakynthos — a yacht charter provides the perfect opportunity to travel in this beautiful part of Greece.
Island hopping in the Dodecanese
The Dodecanese islands can also offer an unforgettable experience. These islands are known for their unique architecture and interesting history, as well as their rugged beaches, and unspoiled nature. There are plenty of activities to indulge in on these islands, such as exploring the medieval castle of Rhodes, visiting the monastery of Saint John in Patmos, or tanning on one of the many beaches of Kos. A yacht charter allows you to explore the Dodecanese in a relaxed and comfortable way. There’s also the opportunity to discover some of the smaller islands that are often overlooked by large tourist crowds, making it a perfect option for those who seek small-crowd locations.
Island hopping in the Sporades
The Sporades islands are renowned for their peaceful ambiance and stunning natural beauty, offering the perfect escape to a sailing enthusiast. This is the perfect destination if you prefer secluded places without the large flocks of tourists that tend to arrive during the summer months in Greece. You should expect a truly local experience accompanied by heartwarming Greek hospitality. The Sporades are generally an easygoing destination. However, keep in mind that Skiathos island offers a more vibrant nightlife that attracts a lot of younger people. If you prefer serenity, focus on the islands of Skopelos, Alonissos, and Skyros instead.
Island hopping in the Saronic
The Saronic islands are the perfect location for those who are looking for a combination of cosmopolitan vibes and yacht culture. Located close to Athens, this area offers a good mix of both nature and island life. A yacht charter here will give you access to some of the most beautiful islands in Greece such as Aegina, Poros, Hydra, and Spetses. Hydra is especially popular among those looking to relax, as it’s the only island in Greece where cars are forbidden. Island hopping in the Saronic Gulf can be actually quite cheap compared to other regions in Greece, especially during the off-season period, since it’s close to Athens (lower cost for fuel) and the majority of the islands are comparatively close to each other.

Other destinations in greece to choose from.
Visiting Greece you’ll find out that there are countless places to choose from and you should not limit your options. Other popular sailing locations with a yacht include:
Crete is the largest island in Greece and one of the largest in the Mediterranean. Located in the southernmost part of the Aegean, Crete is a paradise for those looking to sail with a yacht. Its rich history is unlike any island in Greece and that is also true about the local cuisine. Crete is also home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world like Elafonissi and Balos.
You should expect that you’ll need at least a 5 day visit to get a glimpse of this majestic island so this is maybe not the best selection for those who want to discover a lot of new places in a short time.
There is a popular saying in Greece: There’s no other place like Halkidiki. And that is true!
Halkidiki is a beautiful region in Northern Greece, with its three peninsulas jutting out into the Aegean Sea. It’s known for its endless, sandy beaches and its lavish vegetation, making it a destination that doesn’t look like your typical Greek coastline, rather more like a tropical island.
The Peloponnese
The Peloponnese is an emerging region for yacht enthusiasts in Greece and offers a lot of diverse options to visitors. From exploring Byzantine castles, rugged nature, and picturesque villages to sailing around secluded coasts, you can expect a unique experience like no other.
Sailing-wise positioned in between the southernmost Ionian islands to the west and the islands of the Saronic Gulf to the east, the Peloponnese offers a diversity for those eager to explore very interesting, less common and less frequented destinations.
Your Sailing Options
Skippered yacht charters.
Chartering a yacht with a skipper in Greece is an ideal way to experience the beauty of this country. With an experienced skipper at the helm you can rest assured your safety is being taken care of and that all relevant rules and regulations are being followed, providing a hassle-free holiday experience as far as sailing the boat is concerned. Your skipper takes care of navigating, mooring, and sailing while you do all the rest, prepare meals, keep your boat clean, and assist your skipper with secondary duties as crew.
Crewed Yacht Charters
A crewed charter on the other hand, is a totally different ball game. On a crewed charter you have not just a Captain but a complete crew that will take care of you. For a yacht to accommodate crew, a team o people that look after the boat and the guests, a yacht needs to be considerably bigger than the average sailboat. Therefore we are looking at vessels that are mostly motor-yachts that also cost more to charter and to run.
With a crewed charter, you can rest assured that the whole experience will be taken care of by professionals. Some of the additional benefits include having a personal chef who will prepare delicious meals for you and your guests; expert sailors to navigate away from any potentially dangerous waters or obstacles; capable hosts to ensure everyone is well looked after; a mechanic on board to maintain the proper function of the engines; and of course, an experienced Captain who is available to give expert instruction and guidance.
As you can imagine, a crewed charter is more of a luxury option compared to a skippered charter. So, if you want to sail Greece in style on a luxury yacht, a crewed yacht charter is the way to go. At Vernicos Yachts we can guide you and help you make the choice that suits you best. We offer a variety of luxury crewed yachts that are available for charter.
Greek Island Hopping with a Yacht Charter – Important Tips for the Best Vacation Experience
- Travel light: Forget the large suitcases with many clothes and accessories. When you are onboard you will soon find out for yourselves that the majority of your possessions will never be used. However, have at least two bathing suits available since you will be constantly in and out of the sea. Also, carry a light jacket with you since evenings get colder on the Greek islands, especially if strong winds are present.
- Plan your trip ahead: Deciding on which parts you should visit during your vacation can be tricky. Spend some time to know what different regions of Greece have to offer and make the right choice.
- Learn from a local guide: If you found the islands that you’re going to set sail to, invest in learning a thing or two about them. You could ask for information from a local guide so you can find all the cool beaches and restaurants that you will visit. Don’t expect to learn everything whilst onboard.
- Pack enough food and drinks: Your charter agent or broker will probably help you make the necessary arrangements, but if you are a large group of people, if you are planning to spend a lot of time at sea, and you have special requests, then make the proper arrangements ahead of time.
- Choose your trip: Deciding on which islands to visit is one thing, and making a plan with your skipper is another. Discuss your options with your skipper so you can agree what is practically feasible and make the best out of your sailing experience.
- Time of the year: Summer, spring, or early autumn? There are many different periods that you can visit Greece for island hopping. Summer is a popular period to sail but during spring and autumn, you can find great discounts. The choice is yours.
- Mooring fees: Mooring fees vary from port to port in Greece and the more places you visit, the more you are going to spend.
- Don’t get “cheap” on the number of days that you will spend on holiday: Two weeks is the ideal time to invest in your vacation but for the majority of people this is just wishful thinking. However, you should consider that sailing takes time and this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many.
- Wear sunscreen: This may sound like a piece of obvious advice but this is a highly important one. Spending time on a yacht means a lot of sun exposure and the Sun is scorching hot in Greece, especially during the Summer.
And last but not least, enjoy! You are about to embark on an amazing journey, and you should make the most out of your vacation. Relax, live the moment, and create unforgettable memories. That is what sailing in Greece is all about.
Vernicos Yachts wishes you a pleasant and safe journey!
