The 55-metre Bannenberg & Rowell-designed yacht is a bespoke family retreat and proof that size does not matter when it comes to building a true Lürssen – the quality of engineering and design on the large scale as well as the smallest detail is evident throughout. As a private family yacht, the owners wanted minimal crew and the ability to cruise in secluded locations not easily accessible for larger yachts. Moon Sand’s functionality for family gatherings ranges from the safety gates and high bulwarks on her exterior to her cleverly designed flexible guest cabins. In their initial design concept, Bannenberg & Rowell were influenced by studies based on the classic yacht Carinthia VI, designed by Bannenberg the Elder, and built by Lürssen in 1973. Through several design iterations, MOON SAND evolved into a yacht with a strong new identity whilst incorporating her Lürssen/Bannenberg heritage. A fearless use of colours and textures as well as museum quality interior furniture pieces underline the approach of tremendous attention to detail – not only in the interior spaces but also in her technical areas.
