The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia will host the Raymarine Australian Maxi Championship from 1-5 December 2023.

The 2023 Raymarine Australian Maxi Championship will consist of up to 6 races and will feature Maxis (80-100 foot) and Mini Maxis (60-79 foot) with a minimum IRC TCC of 1.450.

Broomstick Whitsundays is a large maxi racing yacht fitted with accommodations for guests. Broomstick has a mixture of double and single beds situated throughout the boat. These are all shared, dorm-style open-plan rooms. From April to September, the maximum capacity is normally 20 guests, allowing guests to have their own bed (single or double). During peak season (October-March) our capacity can reach higher numbers of up to 25 with sharing of double beds. With 22 meters of deck space, she offers ample space for socializing, relaxing, and sunbathing as you cover at least 100km around the islands. Stops include up to 5 hours at the world-famous white sands and clear blue waters of Whitehaven Beach, snorkeling at the fringing coral reefs of the northern Whitsundays, and bushwalking to get up close with nature. This itinerary is perfect for guests who have a little more time to relax and want to spend 3 full days exploring the magnificent islands.

Accommodation on board comprises double and single beds throughout the boat in dorm-style open-plan shared rooms. All meals and snacks are included, with burritos, roast chicken, and BBQ burgers to satisfy after a full day of adventuring. Would definitely recommend this trip! The tour itself is beautiful with white haven beach being a clear highlight but all other stops and snorkelling spots also being brilliant. The boat itself is fairly big and as boats go quite comfortable (two bathrooms and you can fully stand up in most parts downstairs). We sailed with Quinn, Chlo and Lecole and they were so lovely and knowledgable. Food was also great with the afternoon snacks being great after the days activities. Honestly got nothing to complain about and would book it again in a heartbeat.

FLEXIBLE BOOKING – This liveaboard offers a free trip reschedule within 24 months if you are unable to travel due to Covid-19 related restrictions.

If you wish to cancel instead of reschedule then the following cancellation terms apply;

• More than 14 days out = 90 % refund
• Less than 15 days out = no refund
• The destination country prevents you from entering due to their governmental guidelines and restrictions on your country of residence.
• Your country of residence prevents you from departing due to their governmental guidelines and restrictions on the embarkation point for the liveaboard.

Only if one or more of the above apply, this liveaboard operator will offer a free re-schedule of your trip within 24 months from the initial departure date

2023 Australian Maxi Championship

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia is pleased to announce that Raymarine will be the naming sponsor of the upcoming 2023 Australian Maxi Championship in December. This exciting partnership will bring the prestige and excellence of Raymarine together with the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s long-standing commitment to sailing.

The Australian Maxi Championship is a highly anticipated event in the Australian sailing calendar, showcasing some of the most impressive and technologically advanced maxi yachts in the country and abroad.

The 2023 Raymarine Australian Maxi Championship takes place from Friday 1 December and will be conducted over four races culminating in the renowned SOLAS Big Boat Challenge on Tuesday 5December. The event will be available to view on live stream on  CYCATV  (YouTube) and  CYCA  Facebook

The event is endorsed by the International Maxi Association.

About the Australian Maxi Championship

Now in its third year, the Australian Maxi Championship is a multi-day regatta conducted over four races – incorporating a longer passage race (the Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore Cabbage Tree Island Race), windward/leeward races off Sydney Heads and culminates with the prestigious SOLAS Big Boat Challenge on Sydney Harbour. It is open to eligible race boats of either 60-79 feet (Mini Maxis) or 80-100 feet (Maxis). This Championship is the penultimate event before the  Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race  and is a showcase and final competition for the larger boats in its fleet.

Council staff in Borroloola were transported to work across Rocky Creek by boat, days after the Northern Territory community was lashed by Tropical Cyclone Megan.
