New Yachts: Ferretti Yachts 1000

The Ferretti Yachts 1000 is not just the Italian builder’s largest vessel in length overall at 98 feet, 10 inches. It’s also the beamiest at 22 feet, 4 inches. The yacht’s wide-body design means more living space, inside and outside, than many motoryachts in this size range.

The full-beam main-deck master stateroom has a full-beam en suite head forward of the berth, with double sinks separating the toilet and shower. The master also has a walk-in closet, and a desk/vanity is forward and to port of the berth.

Belowdecks, there are four equally sized double-berth guest staterooms, all en suite and facing athwartships, two to port and two to starboard. All the way forward are three cabins accommodating up to five crew.

On the main deck and amidships, there is formal dining for up to 10 guests at a table to port, with views out the sole-to-ceiling windows flanking the table. If owners choose, the windows can be built to open for salt air and cross breezes. The 107-square-foot galley is forward of the table, and it can be partitioned off for privacy during formal affairs.

While the salon has an L-shaped settee, two ottomans and a table abaft the formal dining space in the standard layout, Ferretti says the 1000 was penned to be modular, allowing owners to personalize the furnishings, materials and styling.

When it comes to materials, Ferretti is using carbon fiber in the construction of the yacht’s superstructure and hardtop. The lightweight carbon helps keep the yacht’s overall heft down without compromising strength and keeps the longitudinal center of gravity relatively low.

These measures should enhance the 1000′s overall performance. According to Ferretti, the yacht should have a 24-knot cruise speed and 28-knot top hop when powered with optional 2,638 hp MTU 16V 2000 M96L diesels. (Standard power is 2,200 hp MTU 16V 2000 M86 diesels, which reportedly will provide a 20-knot cruise and 24-knot top-end speed.)

For watersports fans, the 1000′s tender garage accommodates a Williams 445 Dieseljet, a PWC and two Seabobs.

How do you get all the amenities of a 30-metre yacht into a hull that escapes the straitjacket of classification? Some would say that’s having your cake and eating it. Not Ferretti Yachts, though. The Italian boatbuilding giant believes there is a simple answer: you buy the new Ferretti Yachts 1000, the marque’s flagship.

“It’s the missing link between Ferretti Yachts and Custom Line ,” says chief commercial officer Stefano de Vivo of the new flagship. “We’re giving Ferretti Yachts clients the possibility of going to 30 metres. Our competitors are still trying to figure out how we did that inside a 24-metre waterline length.”

At one level it is simple: a classic raked bow reduces the waterline length and the long bathing platform doesn’t count either, being just above the water. “That extra length at the back gives no buoyancy, and in displacement mode, it improves the angle of pitch,” de Vivo says.

However, the real trick is to have created a hull with enough volume and stability to fulfil all the requirements you might place on a larger yacht. At 6.8 metres in the beam, the Ferretti Yachts 1000 is not the broadest boat in her class but, combined with the chine between the lower and main decks and towering topsides, she offers a lot of internal volume.

In fact, the hull and technical platform are developed from those of the Ferretti Yachts 960 – a model replaced by this new boat. The skeleton of the superstructure is steel framed, allowing the shipyard to put bigger windows with smaller mullions in the main saloon without sacrificing stiffness. But the rest is built in fibreglass. Like the smaller boat, she is designed to plane, so one of the key objectives besides the length was weight control.

“Stability was, as usual, one of the main constraints,” says de Vivo. “The weight estimates were made in a very accurate way. An area of our engineering is completely dedicated to weight prediction and monitoring.”

Naturally, speed is of course a key part of the design. Her MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines propel her 111 tonnes up to 28 knots. Cruising speed is reported to be a rapid 24 knots (with standard MTU M86s, top speed is 24 knots and cruising speed 20 knots), although we were unable to confirm this because hull No 1, which we saw at the Cannes show in September, was port-bound.

“The design could not be limited to an expression of performance and functionality, but it also needed to express maximum volume and comfort,” says exterior designer Filippo Salvetti . He has sought to preserve what he sees as the essence of Ferretti Yachts – sportiness and comfort. “The exterior design is built on a delicate balance of blacks and whites that, while keeping the silhouette sleek, allows a great amount of daylight to enter the cabins and convivial spaces.

“The detailing of the exterior draws inspiration from the automotive formula, where fluidity shapes surfaces. The central fin leans slightly outward before reaching the deck above, as an indication of dynamic support, and the rear fin is plastically modelled around the glass portion that it contains – almost deforming it. The flybridge roof elevates on athletic thin structures that give a sense of lightness,” he says.

Salvetti has played cleverly with the boat’s lines. Viewed from the side, the curving white pen stroke of the flybridge coaming sweeps off the deck until it is interrupted amidships by a black wedge that flows forward to become the heavily raked glass of the windscreen. It gives the boat a powerful look and hints at the volumes contained within.

Inside, the levels are simpler to understand. The raised pilothouse design slightly constrains the height over the service areas between the main saloon and the master cabin forward. A few more steps allow you to reach the flybridge.

And it is a true flybridge, in the sense that there are full dual controls up there, tucked behind a console that bristles with buttons and two slick Simrad glass bridge displays. “The flybridge actually has the main helm,” says de Vivo. “It uses hydraulic power but there is electric feedback. The rudder and interceptors automatically control the lift of the boat over a certain speed.”

Notwithstanding the electric pilot seat from Poltrona Frau that neatly raises your perspective and could well tempt owners to become drivers with the wind in their hair, this area is really all about relaxation. There is a well-equipped wet bar with a fridge and a grill (a barbecue or Texan grill can also be installed easily enough), a table with generous seating for up to eight people, and an array of sofas and pouffes, cushions and barstools scattered around the deck – all free-standing and all from outdoor specialist Roda.

The aft section of this space is completely open air – naturally with the possibility of installing a tensile bimini for extra shade. And a large panel in the centre of the hardtop can be opened or closed as desired. It has an ingenious louvre mechanism that sees slats rotate up to let in a chink of sun before retracting into the hardtop completely.

“There are many options for the sunroof,” says de Vivo. “We’re developing other flybridge configurations, too. If you wanted, you could put in a pool, for instance.”

The sundeck has a very natural flow into the foredeck, which is one big lounging area. Skirt round the coaming on the side decks and you have a row of four ergonomic loungers arrayed beneath the wheelhouse windows. Flow on down a couple of shallow steps and you reach more seating – two curvy L-shaped sofas, this time, with teak tables. On down another couple of steps lies the gleaming stainless steel of the anchoring tackle – almost pieces of functional art. Standing down here, leaning on the splayed bulwarks, the effect looking back up towards the wheelhouse is of a series of terraces cascading down. It would be an exciting spot to witness the action at full speed, and ideal for admiring the anchorage, drink in hand, as the captain noses the boat in to find good holding.

This forward space is nicely balanced by the loungers mounted on the stern, which command the bathing platform under the aft deck seating area. The transom lifts to reveal storage for a good-sized 4.35-metre Williams DieselJet and a Sea-Doo personal watercraft, but Ferretti Yachts eschews the internal beach club space.

“Everybody’s asking for these big beach areas, but they’re not very usable – someone has to be putting the furniture out,” says de Vivo. “Having used boats, I love being on the chaise longue. Here you can just chuck yourself down after a swim. What could be better than drying off in the sun?”

Though he left the design work to the experts, it is one of several features that have drawn on de Vivo’s experience. “I also insisted on the connection between the flybridge and the bow. Then the bow really becomes part of the flybridge, connecting it all. The flybridge becomes the shady space and the bow is your sunpad area.”

Above all, Ferretti Yachts sees itself as a lifestyle brand, and so the interior has been the focus of enormous attention. Once again, the yard worked with IdeaeITALIA , the design team responsible for the interior of the recent Ferretti Yachts 500 and 780. With their input, the builder has dramatically improved the refinement of its styling.

IdeaeITALIA has developed two quite subtle moods for the boat, in line with the way it approached the two previous projects. Labelled “classic” and “contemporary”, they bring together a range of fabrics, woods and marbles for the bathrooms. Owners still have free rein, of course, to specify the finish they want – to mix and match to their hearts’ content. But the two moods offer a harmonious vision that owners would be well advised to take.

Classic is naturally the warmer of the two, with teaks, brown-red wooden detailing, dark green and red cushions and tan upholstery. It is designed to feel homely. The contemporary option makes use of whites and steely blues, dark flooring and pale ceilings, greys with just a hint of gold.

“The brief was clear: to build something that felt like home – that would be familiar for the owner,” explains Alessio Battistini, co-founder of IdeaeITALIA . “Our inspiration comes from the Italian background of architecture and furniture design of the 1950s and 1960s. We wanted to translate this iconic part of Italian design into the geometrical forms and materials used on board.”

Both designs draw real collateral from the broad windows and fully retracting doors in the main saloon. Glass bulwarks let your gaze roam over the seascape around the boat. Another elegant L-shaped sofa faces aft and to starboard, where a large flat-screen television makes film nights a possibility. There’s dining for 10 and plenty of “blank canvas” wall space for art. “The first thing we use is the free-standing approach for the cabinets, sofas, tables, chairs and so on,” says Battistini. “We pick products from commercial catalogues. The idea is to make something that is subtle, but so that the owner can change things if they want.”

The owner’s cabin lies forward, with light that floods in from the hull windows on either side. Twin basins, separate heads and a shower with a huge rainforest head lie against the forward bulkhead. There’s room for a vanity table in the cabin, with a view out across the anchorage, plus a desk and a dressing area.

The four guest cabins on the lower deck are also surprisingly bright, thanks to the windows which run nearly the full length of the hull in each room. They are all similarly proportioned and with their own en suite shower rooms. Beds are oriented with the headboard against the hull, below opening portholes that allow for natural ventilation at anchor.

Running through the whole interior is this sense of easy comfort. From the saloon to the cabins, these are spaces you can feel at home in, without stressing about marking the furniture or failing to live up to the avant-garde chic.

De Vivo sums it up neatly when I ask him what the brand is about. “Ferretti Yachts is the brand for going to a bay and relaxing,” he says. “It invites you in, like a puffy sofa, you just need to climb into.”

The All-New Ferretti 1000 Exceeds Expectations

  For more than 50 years, Ferretti Yachts has earned a near-fanatical following around the world on the strength of its high-performance luxury yachts. Like a classic Maserati , Ferretti yachts manage to achieve a delicate balance between cat-like elegance and massive, raw power.

Described as the shipyard’s first 100 per cent wide-body vessel and stretching almost 100 feet in overall length, the Ferretti 1000 is the fruit of a new design partnership between Ferretti Group (led by engineer Piero Ferrari), naval architect Filippo Salvetti, and Ideaeitalia, who created the inviting interior design. The result is an exciting new flagship for the Italian marque.

The Ferretti 1000 also marks some major milestones for the company. Apart from being its largest yacht to date, the 1000 is also the company’s first vessel to feature a full carbon superstructure. Its light weight allows the twin MTU 16V 2000 M86 engines—kicking out 2,200 ponies apiece—to push this big boy to a top speed of 28 knots and maintain a cruising speed of 24 knots. If that’s still not enough get-up-and-go, owners can upgrade the standard power to twin MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines generating 2,638 ponies apiece, taking this ride to nearly 30 knots. That’s awfully quick for a yacht this size.

Dressed to Impress

Speedy though it is, the 1000’s primary focus is on comfort.

The indoor spaces are versatile thanks to a modular layout and large floor-to-ceiling windows that emphasize the close connection with the sea while flooding interior spaces with loads of natural light. The extensive use of free-standing furniture contributes further to that sense of lightness and airiness, along with the predominance of wood in all interior spaces. Ferretti uses five varieties of wood, all in a light finish to work with the tasteful fabrics and gleaming marble to bring a greater sense of warmth and hominess than is so often seen in big offshore yachts.

The spacious stern is complete with a superyacht-like beach club. The fully submergible swim platform incorporates three steps on each side that open up as the platform lowers, extending the cockpit stairs and making it much easier to reboard after a dip. Ferretti Group has patented the design, so expect to see it become a standard feature on all the company’s luxury yachts.

The massive central, aft-facing lounge dominates the stern, with its oversized seats that threaten to lull anyone who sits in them into a delightful, sleepy trance of carefree splendour. On the starboard side of the platform, there’s independent access to the garage, which can accommodate a personal watercraft.

Step up into the spacious cockpit, and a pair of sofas share a central table that does double duty for drinks or full meals. A couple of stairways lead up to the flybridge, while the side walkways lead inside to the salon.

The flybridge offers its own sun-bathed cockpit. There’s a starboard-side bar, of course, facing a long and supple port-side bench lounger that lets this space function as a wonderful after-hours club with unbeatable views.

Up on the bow is another delightful lounging space which is accessed from the flybridge, with large, forward-facing full-length loungers overlooking two more—complete with their own private tables—nestled farther forward.

Back on the main deck, the sumptuous salon features enormous floor-to-ceiling windows that can open on both sides. Along with the glass door at the entrance, they help break down the visual barriers dividing the inside and outside, making the salon feel more like a seafront terrace than an indoor space.

The far forward end of the salon houses the main dining area, which occupies a space between the main deck living area and the unique multipurpose galley that hides just ahead of the dining area. An electrically actuated wall opening system reveals an adjoining bar, providing a direct connection to the main dining area and the galley itself. A convenient day head sits opposite.

In its standard layout, the Ferretti 1000 features no less than five cabins, with the enormous owner’s suite on the main deck and four large, identical double cabins below.

With its privacy glass windows providing plenty of light and incredible views, the owner’s suite is more like a private apartment than anything else, with a huge full-beam bathroom (fully decked out in marble and wood) and tremendous amounts of wardrobe space.

Lower-deck guest accommodations are equally well appointed and furnished, giving everyone on board the full VIP treatment from the moment they arrive.

Ferretti Yachts 1000

Ferretti Yachts 1000 is the result of collaboration between the Product Strategy Committee led by Mr. Piero Ferrari, the Ferretti Group Engineering Department, architect Filippo Salvetti for the exteriors, and Ideaeitalia for the new interior concept.

Versatile and suited to all markets, Ferretti Yachts 1000 reshapes space and changes the whole approach to life on board with unprecedented design solutions and an interior mood developed to adapt to the owner’s various needs. The first Ferretti Yachts 1000 features Classic styling, with a mood defined by soft, balanced colour tones and subtle contrasts. The other option is Contemporary styling, with fresh tones and bolder colours. At the heart of the project is the idea of unparalleled comfort and wellbeing in both outdoor and indoor areas, where quintessential ‘Made in Italy’ taste prevails. The suavely understated design, featuring clean lines and sophisticated materials, conveys a sense of refined luxury and is the ideal interpretation of the values expressed by the “Just Like Home” claim: comfort, Italianness, timeless design and craftsmanship.

IMPOSING FORMS AND TIMELESS ELEGANCE

The exterior styling reprises the design philosophy introduced with the latest models in the range: sporty lines dominate a profile featuring new glass side panels aft and amidships. Teak is used widely: from the swim platform in the stern, it is reprised on the contours of the rear door, on the walkways and on the stairway up to the flybridge, as well as cladding the external helm station. For the first time in the brand’s history, Ferretti Yachts 1000 makes extensive use of carbon fibre on various parts of the superstructure and hard top.

Ferretti Yachts 1000 introduces a new flow concept on board that looks set to become an iconic feature of the largest yachts in the range. The interior design is elegant and modern, while respecting the boatbuilding tradition imprinted in Ferretti Yachts’ DNA. The versatility of the interiors translates into a layout that leaves the owner ample choice to design their own onboard experience.

The sense of a space to live in prevails. The relationship with the surrounding environment is intensified by large full-height windows that accentuate the feeling of contact with the water and let natural light flood in, while the freestanding furniture conveys a sense of lightness and the contours of the geometrical detailing have a unique style. Walnut wood is used throughout the yacht’s interiors in various ways: flame- coloured and bold for the furniture, striped and softer for the walls, and ribbed for special accents. The special ribbing technique is also used to enrich and embellish the marble in the service areas. The parquet, which reprises the pale colourways, is skilfully blended with the other materials, from the ceilings to the furniture’s unusual back-painted glass tops, giving the setting a relaxed, smooth and elegant tone.

On board, the sensation is one of perfect balance among the materials, with fine upholstery and fabrics offering a pleasing sense of softness, warmth and comfort, in contrast with the sheen of marble and glass. Every detail reveals excellence accompanied by understatement and each individual space welcomes the owner and their guests with exciting solutions that stand out for their timeless appeal.

There was a special focus during the design process on the completely new lighting design, with round spotlights used throughout the boat because of their optimum performance and minimum size.

All the technical features are designed to be hidden by architectural details. One of many examples is the new Garvan audio system, which is made up of small loudspeakers integrated seamlessly into the ceiling that deliver high quality sound.

Ferretti Yachts 1000 extends over two decks with every comfort and can accommodate up to 10 guests in five cabins: the owner’s suite on the main deck and four guest cabins on the lower deck. Headroom in the main and lower deck areas exceeds two metres.

The star was born last year, and we finally had a chance to meet her recently. The new Ferretti Yachts 1000, or as it is called ‘mille’ by her Italian builder, is the largest yacht in their product range, successor to the hugely popular Ferretti 960. The new model boasts the same high-end Italian design and craftsmanship. At a glance, the new 1000 has a sporty silhouette, with glass surfaces along the entire length of the hull giving it elegance and, in a way, deceiving the eye – hiding her true size.

More glazing has also found its way astern, which is a detail currently popular among several brands. Right next to the transom, there is glass partition allowing unobstructed views over the stern when sitting in the cockpit.

This model has kept the ever-popular aft longitudinal seat, hiding the entrance to the garage, large enough to accommodate a Williams Jet 445 tender and a jet ski. The aft cockpit is least innovative part of the yacht, stretching across 40 square meters and furnished with a square folding table, making it easily convertible into an outdoor dining area. Upon entering the salon, you can immediately recognize the interior design concept: soft, simple shapes, plenty of natural light seeping through large windows, carefully selected fabrics and materials that add warmth.

The new Ferretti Yachts 1000 is available in two interior styles, classic and modern, and the unit we took for a ride was a modern delight. The salon features Minotti furniture port (Alexander sofa and Tape armchair in velvet) and a huge television starboard, with a dining room on the bow this space has a modern glass table seating ten, and on each side of the dining room there are sliding doors leading to the deck. Bow on the main deck, the master cabin has a private dressing room and a large bathroom located in the front.

Below deck, there are four cabins, two with double and two with single berths which can be joined into double, so essentially four doubles. Two of those can be joined into another master suite, turning this model into a luxury yacht . All cabins are decorated in fine fabrics and materials, with plenty of walnut wood with grooves that add sophistication. In addition to these guest cabins, the new Ferretti 1000 has room for five crew, below deck in the bow.

The upper deck stretches over 55 square meters, with a large command post starboard, and with two seats port. Both this upper deck and its hard top were made with plenty of carbon fiber elements.

The outdoor dining area is protected by a hard cover with a moving central part and located starboard, while a bar with four bar stools is port. Aft on the upper deck, there is room for free-standing furniture, in this case Piper sofas by Roda.

The most interesting design element on the new model is exemplary communication of the upper deck with the bow. Passages on each side allows easy access to the sun deck on the bow, in front of the windshield, as well as to the additional large seat on the bow itself which is divided in two parts by two teak tables.

This ingenious solution allows a very enjoyble lifestyle aboard, as well as complete privacy in marinas.

Ferrett 1000 speed

Ferretti Yachts 1000 is powered by two MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines allowing 24 knots of cruising speed and 28 knots of top speed. The new mille is already on her way to becoming one of the most successful models in the Ferretti lineup and we can see her maintaining that spot for years to come.

The Ferretti Group, one of the world top companies specializing in the design, building and sale of motor yachts, with an amazing portfolio of eight of the most exclusive and prominent brands, is thrilled to announce its participation in the Moscow Boat Show 2013. From 12 to 17 March, two of the Group fleet’s most successful yachts will be presented as absolute premieres for the Russian market: motor yacht Ferretti 530, representing Ferretti Yachts , and the 27-foot Iseo superyacht tender by Riva .

This year’s Moscow Boat Show will also offer the Ferretti Group the opportunity to announce all yachting enthusiasts in Russia and Northern Eurasia a new important achievement in its international growth: the renewal of its exclusive dealership agreement for the Russian Federation with its partner Premium Yachts , one of the leading dealers operating in the boating sector in Russia , which will represent the Ferretti Yachts , Pershing , Itama , Bertram , Riva e Mochi Craft and Ferretti Custom Line brands.

The agreement – which was officially announced today during a press conference attended, among others, by Ferruccio Rossi (Ferretti Group’s CEO), Alexey Kurochkin (Premium Yachts’s President), and Stefano Campanelli (Sales Manager for the EMEA area for Ferretti Yachts, Pershing, Itama, Bertram, Riva, Mochi Craft and Ferretti Custom Line) – is part of Ferretti Group’s strategy for a further expansion on the European markets offering the best short/medium-term growth perspectives, also thanks to the financial soundness regained following the strategic partnership forged with the Weichai Group.

More specifically, the Russian boating market holds a great potential for the Ferretti Group’s development because of the rapid growth of average wealth among the population and an increasing interest for Made in Italy luxury goods, like Ferretti Group yachts.

Through the renewal of the agreement with Premium Yachts, the Group will further strengthen its highly selected distribution network – which currently includes approximately 60 dealers ensuring the best possible customer care in more than 80 countries worldwide – as well as its presence in the traditional EMEA ( Europe , Middle East , Africa ) area, one of the three macro-regions (besides the America and the Asia-Pacific) into which the Group’s sales structure is divided.

Moreover, in a medium/long-term perspective, the Ferretti Group is expecting an increasing interest on the Russian market not only for flying bridge yachts above 70’ in length, but also towards smaller crafts, both flybridge and open/coupé ones, which are particularly suitable for river cruising or pleasure boating in Russia’s large lakes. Consequently, the renewal of the dealership agreement with Premium Yachts also allows to look ahead at the future aiming to conquer new market segments where less competitors are currently present in terms of both products and geographic location.

The press conference, which was held today at the Lotte Hotel in Moscow, had also the objective of introducing attending journalists and yachting enthusiasts to the main new products launched by the Ferretti Group over the last few months, namely: motor yacht Ferretti 870 , Ferretti 690 yacht , and the project of the new flagship Ferretti 960 superyacht for the Ferretti Yachts brand; luxury yacht Pershing 82 ’ and superyacht Pershing 108’ New Edition for Pershing; Riva 63’ Virtus and the project of the new Riva flagship, 122’ Mythos yacht , as well as the entire range of the Itama, Bertram and Mochi Craft brands.

The yachts launched over the last few months by CRN – the Group’s brand specialising in the construction of steel and aluminium yachts between 40 and 90 metres – were also presented during the conference: the two superyachts: CRN superyacht Jade (60 metres long) and CRN mega yacht Chopi Chopi (80 metres long), the latter being one of the largest pleasure vessels ever built in Italy and the largest one ever built by the Ancona-based shipyard.

“The renewal of our dealership agreement with an important partner like Premium Yachts – which has worked on the Russian market for almost 10 years and can boast an outstanding product knowledge and an excellent local market penetration – and the presentation of the Group’s latest models are an integral part of our development strategy on the EMEA markets offering the best growth perspectives in the short-medium term,” stated Ferruccio Rossi, Ferretti Group’s CEO. “The Moscow Boat Show 2013, which has now reached its sixth edition, will extend over approximately 45,000 square metres this year and will be attended by more than 350 international boating companies. This Show represents an interesting business opportunity for us and an unmissable event in terms of visibility, since we are identifying a considerable growth potential in this area thanks to the timeless attractiveness of our products – true ambassadors of Made in Italy production all over the world”.
