With spectacular views of botany bay, we had high expectations that the club could deliver equally spectacular food. Unfortunately the food failed to deliver. The oysters Mornay and Kilpatrick were cold and bland. I ordered the Fisherman's Basket....sans basket i received a cold serving of... what i assume was precooked, frozen seafood served on a cold slab of chips. My wife ordered the Flathead which resembled crab sticks...also served cold. Very disappointing. On a nearby table staff were tucking into their lunchboxes brought from home. That said, service was friendly and the drinks like the food served cold. More

They have recently changed their dining operation from third party to doing it in house. Naturally we assumed that prices would be more competitive whilst the quality would be the same. However, this was not the case. The prices are comparable, if not a little... higher and the quantity and quality has gone down. After finishing our meal, an 'executive' asked how we liked it. We advised as above, with my partner commenting that the barramundi main didn't even have any greens. He replied, Basil Fawlty style, that we must have enjoyed it as we ate it all - completely missing the point that we weren't saying it wasn't edible, we were saying that the quality and pricing was not what we expected after the change. The menu has also become less varied and is much more pub / RSL style, which is fine if priced accordingly. Hopefully, these are teething problems and they listen to constructive criticism, but after our exchange, I have my doubts. More

A group of us ate here. Unfortunately the food was very sub standard. Greens/fresh vegetables are not in evidence. A couple of people had steaks. They were very dry and the sauces were awful. The accompaniments were extremely salty mash (from a packet like Deb),... a smear of pumpkin purée and a mimi corn cob. Nothing green or fresh at all. Similarly the roast chicken came with chips. Just chips. The restaurant was very quiet..a testimony to its quality perhaps. Such a disappointment. More

Family lunch for 7 adults in the dinning room, staff unhelpful with proving a suitable food option for dietary needs. Seafood was nice, but 2 chicken snitzels where over cooked and dry. Meals over priced, even allowing for the holiday surcharge. Moved to the bar... area found bar staff unhappy and uninterested in customer service. Also staff where pushing past visitors when trying to sign in. Very unprofessional. 30 years as chef, unimpressed! More

This place use to be great. New owners and it has gone down. We were a group of 20 celebrating my elderly mothers birthday. We waited almost 2hurs for our food to be served. After complaining to the manager, our food finally arrived which was... very poor quality it was undercooked and not fresh. We sent all our meals back , we will never dine here again , don't waste your time or money. This place is a 16 foot sinking restaurant. More

Was thinking that with so much competition around, this club was finally getting its act together with renovations etc that maybe they'd even fixed their food! Nope - so disappointed. The fish and chips tasted like someone had microwaved a McCains frozen dinner, it didn't... even come with salad. It was like eating glug. The renovations are so disappointing too - the area with the most views and best atmosphere, has now been walled off and designated to functions whilst depriving local patrons of the view 90% of rest of week! Really poorly designed. No wonder no one goes there's a reason the other 2 local clubs are always full. More

My partner and I stopped in here for a late lunch. The staff were very accommodating and I cannot fault the service. The food came in quick time and was pretty good. The facilities are those of a club of this nature and are quite... clean and tidy. More

Fabulous location overlooking the sands of Dolls Point and the Bay and George’s River. Very relaxed atmosphere with live music and excellent cocktails. Just had best ever steak sandwich Judy

Booked for my daughters birthday as I am a new member of the Sailing Club. My daughters meal was oily (Pasta) and my slow cooked lamb was so salty I could not eat it. Waiter asked if anything was wrong so explained it was too... salty, reply "Oh, would you like something else". No thank you! Then along came the bill, no discount or even an offer to compensate. And don't bother with club bistro because it is the same kitchen, terrible!! Sorry I bothered to join this low grade badly run club. More

We had our Christmas Party there recently, a three course lunch/party for about 95 people in the main restaurant. The room looked and the view amazing and so was the staff - but the main meal was NOT what we pre-ordered and it was AWFUL.... The meat was carved 1cm thick and was piled on it was as tuff as old boots. The bit of broccoli could fit one 20 cents coin and was overcooked - that's all greens we got. Most people didn't eat their meal. The entrée was very ordinary but the desert was okay. I hope they get their act together, because it's a waist of a good club - but, we were warned about the food by others. The club should get another cook - because, this one is letting the club down. Went to this club last night 31st August to see a “medium “ my friend & I had dinner at the bistro & it was quick & very tasty nothing to complain about. After the show I met some ppl of male/female & I started... chatting to them, I had a connection to a guy wearing a “rabbiitohs” Jersey as I am a rabbits supporter the female part of the group became “jealous “& gave me an unprovoked “mouthful “ & in good female style I told her exactly what she was!!! I’m happily married & have no designs on anyone as I left the group I went up to the bar & they chose not to serve me & I told the bar tender what I thought of her! I I then was escorted out of the club ! swear on my 3 sons lives I did nothing to deserve this treatment I was happily chatting to the guy in the rabbits jersey & next minute I was getting a mouthful from a jealous woman all the time I was hearing the fellas saying to this chick “come on settle down do t be like that!! I’m still in shock ! I’m someone who likes a chat , these guys I was chatting to apparently play in a band so he was quite animated telling me where I could see where they play , completely harmless banter that turned ugly thanks to a ridiculous jealous woman! Thanks to this situation & the club’s OVER KILL reaction I will never return. Talk about kill first ask questions later! More

I took a maternity class with my 9 months pregnant wife in one of their rooms there. It was a 10 hour day class, with a 40 minute break for lunch. Obviously we were pretty hungry and tired when the lunch brake came, so we... went to order lunch there. I ordered and paid and everything was good, and after 40 minutes waiting I went to ask what was happening and they told me they had a system problem all day, so the order didn't go to the kitchen. I can't believe the lady in the register didn't tell me anything when I order, and why she was taking orders without reporting them to the kitchen. What was she expecting? Telepathy?? When I first went to ask at about 20 minutes she just said "it should be there soon" ... and she KNEW the order didn't go to the kitchen!!!! I asked for my money back and then they gave me attitude! can you believe it!!!!! As I was inside the room, I was wearing a baseball cap and when I was leaving some staff started yelling very rude at me to take it off. Obviously I was not going to take it off! Bunch of disrespectful people!!!! They saw my wife was pregnant, how can they do it! I hope everybody there lose their jobs! I will never set foot in that place again in my life. More

Overlooking water but too dark by the time booked, nice atmosphere, drink waitress was a little slow taking order....:had oyster mix yumm.. garlic bread ok but white boring bread...salad floating in dressing ! Chicken dish 'Santorini' was ok but sauce a bit thick and rich.... Best entertainment was a male waiter who is the spit of Manuel from fawlty towers, see pics... More

Bistro meal was terrible. $25 for special, which was grilled barramundi with prawns. Fish was dry; smaller than your palm and so thin; 1 prawn; and vegtables were 3 strips of carrot and zucchini. Since under new management the food is worse.

Went for dinner with my daughter there tonight, very disappointed. Kids meal came out in about 7 minutes flat, apparently policy is "kids meals get served first" no where is this advertised or explained, adult surf and turf had not arrived after half and hour.... Going to dinner with your daughter is supposed to be eat with your daughter. Was refused a refund for a meal that did not show up, was asked if if I wanted a doggie bag for a $28 steak. Meal only arrived when I went to complain and leave. They asked if my daughter wanted ice cream to try and get me to stay and eat a meal that should have arrived 20 mins earlier. Either their $28 sirloin or prawns are frozen and defrosted to order or they had forgotten about my order. Restaurant/Catering manager/Head Chef who is not part of the club refused a refund I was told to speak to the club Management. I spoke to the club management and was advised they had no say over the service proved by the restaurant. I walked out the door $28 down and was advised to contact the club CEO Christine Bryant. Further up date on terrible service for a club member to come after speaking to Christen Bryant. Currently at home hungry and not feeling good about the Georges River Sailing Club. More

Georges River 16ft Sailing Club set to become part of Illawarra Catholic Club

Georges River 16ft Sailing Club looks set to become part of llawarra Catholic Club after coming under severe financial pressure during the COVID pandemic.

Members of the two clubs will vote in the next week on the proposed amalgamation, which has been agreed to by both boards.

If approved, the Dolls Point club would continue to operate under its existing name, and sailing activities will continue with the injection of more funding.

Illawarra Catholic Club (ICC), which trades as Club Central at Hurstville and Menai, will pay out the sailing club's outstanding debts, including $250,000 to the Australian Taxation Office.

ICC has committed to spending a minimum of $10 million over 10 years on the sailing club, including $5 million in enhanced facilities and amenities.

Improvements would include a new feature balcony the length of the club premises facing the beach and Botany Bay, with an adjoining large bar-restaurant.

The reception area and kitchens would be upgraded.

In July last year, the sailing club's board decided to seek expressions of interest for an amalgamation partner.

In a letter to members, chairman Allan Brassil said, "As you are aware our club has been trading under financial pressure for the last few years".

"This has greatly increased in recent times by COVID related lockdowns and business disruptions," he wrote.

"The board have taken several steps to address and alleviate these problems including a reduction in costs and contracting out catering which had been incurring significant losses.

"Further, we have been able negotiate extended funding lines with our bankers and have obtained extended repayment terms with the Taxation Office on debt arrears.

"However, whilst these actions have afforded the club some time to plan its recovery, the combined effects of the extended lockdown and capital requirements of the club have necessitated further action.

"We have decided to implement a contingency plan as protection against the on-going financial impact that COVID-19 has caused over the past 17 months."

Club members were subsequently advised amalgamation proposals sought from clubs within a 50km radius were subsequently received from ICC, St George Motor Boat Club and Manly 16ft Sailing Club, which operates and is rebuilding the nearby St George Sailing Club.

"After rigorous consideration", the ICC's proposal was accepted, the board advised.

The memorandum of understanding says ICC will be the continuing club and the sailing club will be dissolved.

Crown Lands will be asked to transfer the maritime and land leases.
