Discussing Acraze’s Hit Single, Audiotistic, and More

Taking over the globe with his hit single “Do It To It” is DJ and producer, Acraze . Charlie Duncker, better known as Acraze , hails from Staten Island and is known by thousands. His electric sound has been recognized and supported by artists such as Chris Lake, Zedd, DJ Snake, and more. Not only is his music radiate energy, but also his presence on and off stage. We were able to sit down with Acraze at Audiotistic San Diego and talk about what he’s been up to and more!

EDM Maniac:  Hey, what’s up!

Acraze:  Hey! Just chillin’. Excited to be here.

EDM Maniac:  You just hopped off stage here at Audiotistic San Diego. How was that?

Acraze:  We’re here! It was my second time in San Diego, so to come back for a festival, feels really good. The crowd was amazing. The energy was amazing. It just feels good to be here, you know? I love this place. It feels like home almost.

EDM Maniac:  Really! This could possibly be home?

Acraze:  I mean maybe one day! We’ll see. We’ll see.

EDM Maniac:  San Diego is beautiful! They’d be lucky to have you! It’s no secret that your song “Do It To It” has become incredibly popular, not only in the EDM community but also viral on TikTok. And on top of that, you have 40 million streams —

Acraze:  48 now *laughs*! We’re climbing!

EDM Maniac:  Oh shoot! That was literally just a few days ago! It must be those 2 million daily streams!

Acraze: 2.5 now *laughs*! Ah, we f*cking love it.

EDM Maniac:  Oh my gosh *laughs*. Did you expect this song to gain so much popularity?

Acraze:  Uhm, I knew that it was special to me at first, but to be this big? I did not expect it. Like we teased it on New Year’s of 2021 and the crowd just went crazy. Like I woke up one morning to like 500 DMs. People were like ‘Yo, what song is this?’ Me and my manager were in the hotel room and were like ‘Dude, I think this is going to be big’. But we didn’t think this big until we were sending it out to DJs and DJ Snake started playing it, Malaa started playing it, Chris Lake and Joyryde started playing it, and the list just f*cking goes on.

I knew it was going to be big, but it got onto the pop charts on the radio and I was like this is a game-changer song. Like I don’t know how other people see it, but this is a special song and my baby.

EDM Maniac:  How does it feel to have that song played by everybody?

Acraze:  It’s surreal! We wake up every day and the label hits us up and they’re like ‘Oh, something new just happened! You’re number one on this and number one on this!’ I’m like holy sh*t!

EDM Maniac:  Do you have an inspiration for that song?

Acraze:  To be honest, there’s not a lot of inspiration for that song. One day, I was waking up in bed during quarantine. I think it was around October and I heard some girl playing a song in her new car and my phone happened to freeze and it was just looping where the drop was and I was like ‘Holy sh*t. This could be dope as a house song’. So, I got out of bed and I made the original demo within an hour. And that was it. The birth of “Do It To It” right there.

EDM Maniac: That’s awesome! You also just did a crazy B4B with Vintage Culture, Nitti Gritti, and Zedd. What was that experience like for you?

Acraze:  I’ve always been a fan of Zedd. Him supporting me is huge. I remember he hit me up on Instagram and he was like ‘Yo, I’m going to use your song for my EDC intro’. I was not actually there for it, but my manager was and when that video went viral, he texted me and was like, ‘BRO!’ in all caps with like 20 O’s. It was so cool and [Zedd] texted me after to come to his place and it was cool to connect with him.

But going back to the show, I never got to meet Vintage, so it was cool to talk with him finally. He was also supportive of the song. Nitti Gritti, who I have been friends with for the longest time, we made dubstep records together before I crossed over to the house scene. I love all of them. They’re such good producers and legends in their own ways.

EDM Maniac:  That’s so cool! Would you do dubstep again?

Acraze:  No, no. For anyone who’s reading, Acraze is a house/pop project. That’s the only thing I’m doing now. If I come back, it won’t be under Acraze. I still make that kind of music, but I won’t put it under my name anymore.

EDM Maniac:  So, if we see an alias come out…

Acraze:  If you see a new alias come out with fire music, it might be me.

EDM Maniac:  We’ll just assume any dubstep song under a new name is you then *laughs*. If you could collab with any artist who would it be?

Acraze:  I have a lot of dream collabs, but I think right now I want to work on a lot of solo stuff. Me and my manager talked about getting into the position of having one good song and then showing everyone who we are as an artist. That’s why now I’m working on a lot of solo projects than collabs.

But, if I was to collab with anyone it would be Skrillex. He’s always been an inspiration to me. I’m trying to think of people I haven’t collabed with yet because I don’t want to drop names I have already collabed with. Skrillex and Chris Lake, absolutely.

EDM Maniac:  Awesome! And I know you can’t talk about your secret collabs, but do you have any new projects that you’re working on right now?

Acraze:  Oh, yeah. I’ve teased a lot of new music today. We have a lot of songs that we are trying to finish, but in terms of what’s next, I want to keep people on their toes.

EDM Maniac:  You’re definitely keeping me on my toes. And you’re touring right now! What’s that like?

Acraze:  Touring is crazy ! Last year, I went from selling like no tickets then to every show on the road being sold out. So, it’s cool to see that everyone has been loving what I’m doing. It’s a surreal feeling. It’s everything I ever wished for. I’m speechless! I don’t even know what to say half the time, but it’s very fun.

EDM Maniac:  What is your favorite and least favorite thing about touring?

Acraze:  Least favorite about touring? The flights. It doesn’t matter what flight I get on. I’m always praying for my back. My back is just screwed after every flight.

EDM Maniac:  Even like a 30-45 minute flight?

Acraze:  Yeah, I don’t know why. My back just doesn’t work with flights.

EDM Maniac:  You should get one of those back support things.

Acraze:  Is that a thing?! They gotta have something like that right? Should I make something for people to pack on flights?

EDM Maniac:  I swear there is something like that! But if there isn’t you should get it patented *laughs*. What’s next after touring?

Acraze:  I guess next year is going to be big for me. We’re putting out a lot of new music, playing a lot of festivals, and next year we just announced for Ultra. I’ve always wanted to play at Ultra. It has been a dream of mine. Planning another massive tour and meeting new people! I eat, breathe, and bleed this stuff, so this is what I’m doing.

EDM Maniac:  All gas no breaks! What are 3 fun facts about yourself that you don’t think your fans know?

Acraze:  One thing that nobody but my team really knows that I’m kind of crazy about is I’m very scared of heights. Like I can’t drive over a bridge. I used to drive over bridges when I was 15, but after 18, I used to pull over on the side of the bridge and have to Uber to the other side of the bridge.

EDM Maniac:  What happened to you that made you so scared all of the sudden?

Acraze:  I don’t know! I don’t know why, but I can’t drive over bridges. The second thing is I love food. Everyone loves food, but I’m obsessed with food.

EDM Maniac:  What’s your go-to food?

Acraze:  Spanish food. My mom is Spanish. She’s from Honduras and my dad is from Germany and he’s also Italian. So I’m like Spanish and Italian, but I choose Spanish food over anything.

EDM Maniac:  Do you have a go-to restaurant or is mom’s cooking the best?

Acraze:  Mom’s cooking for sure. Home-cooked meals are the best thing ever. You can’t touch a grandma’s plate. You can’t *laughs*! The third fact would probably be that I love basketball a lot. I don’t watch games that much, but I like to play it more than anything. Those are the main things I like to do; food and basketball. But any type of heights? No.

EDM Maniac: If you could tell your fans one thing, what would it be?

Acraze:  I came from nothing. Like buying McChickens to try and feed myself because I was trying to live a dream and be here and have this platform. No money, homeless for a while, and I found music. I made it my priority and if I was to say anything to anyone it would be: Believe in what you do and be passionate because you have one shot at life and once you’re done, what do you have left to leave earth? So, don’t be scared to take risks and be ruthless about what you’re passionate about.

EDM Maniac:  Well said! Thanks for sitting with me and talking!

Fresh Start Announces Second Phase of Lineup

Fresh Start NYE expands its lineup to include Dr. Fresch, Phantoms, a DJ set from ODESZA, and more!

Since 2018, Fresh Start has been one of San Francisco ‘s top New Year’s celebrations. Brought together by Space Yacht ,  GCODE ,  Garage Access , and  Soundproof , the festival returns to The Midway from December 30 – January 1 . This week, they unveiled the second phase of its lineup. If you weren’t already excited by the initial announcement , then these additions will definitely get you amped up.

The Saturday Warm Up Session brings the return of Malaa and Tchami ‘s No Redemption , a b2b between ACRAZE and Noizu , as well as a set from special guest SG Lewis . Joining them are powerhouse Kaleena Zanders , the “Honey of House Music” DJ Susan , and SF-based Bruja .

New Year’s Eve celebrations will be headlined by Louis The Child performing a Playground Set. Also billed are Elderbrook , Wenzday, and Blu DeTiger . Newly announced artists for Sunday are Dr. Fresch , it’s murph , Levity , GENTLEMEN’S CLUB , and BAKR . Additionally, there will be DJ sets from Phantoms and ODESZA , the latter of whom will play a special set at sundown. You definitely won’t want to miss this!

The party continues on New Year’s Day with Kaskade , Chris Lorenzo , Justin Martin , and Township Rebellion . Whether you’re a fan of house, techno, or beyond, there’s something for you. New additions for Monday are SOHMI and Born Dirty . With three indoor stages and one outdoors, there’s plenty to discover and explore beyond the artists you know. The Midway is in the top tier of San Francisco venues and this lineup is impressive, so if you’re still undecided on your NYE plans, check out Fresh Start.

Ten years from now, Millennials will have taken over the superyacht world. At least that’s the forecast by several experts who are seeing ages of yacht buyers trending younger.

That trend is expected to continue, according to research from Italian yacht builder Rossinavi and the University of Monaco, with the average age of superyacht buyers decreasing 10 to 15 years over the next decade. That could make Millennials the primary buyers of superyachts.

The topic of younger buyers is a constant discussion in shipyard boardrooms and among designers looking to modify their designs to this changing market. It was also one of the topics at the recent Yachtmaster event in Key West, hosted by Benetti Yachts . Benetti sponsors Yachtmaster events twice a year (the European edition was in Budapest last month) to brief captains and other professionals on new trends in the superyacht industry.

“We have been doing this event for 24 years now,” Benetti Americas manager Nick Bischoff told Robb Report . “The intent is to continue to build relationships with influencers of our current and prospective owners. In the beginning that meant mostly captains, but it’s expanded to include surveyors and owners’ reps, too.” The ultimate goal, says Bischoff, is for participants not only to network, but “put their heads together to create an ever-improving onboard experience both for owners and crew.”

Many seminars focused on the concept of onboard lifestyle, which most brokers and shipyards see as a primary driver for purchasing a yacht. Benetti’s head of product, Sebastiano Vida, also spoke about how lifestyle influences new designs in the yachts.

But Jason Dunbar, a broker and appraisal surveyor with Vessel Value Survey, recommended tough love to the brokers. His discussion about managing expectations for newbie owners included advice about being “realistic” with owners who are flush with cash, but might be new to the superyacht world. If an owner wants a brand-new 120-footer with a crew of six, but has a budget of $8 million, the broker is the one who needs to break the bad news. “A good broker has to tell people ‘Listen, that’s just not going to happen,’” says Dunbar. “That will save a lot of headaches down the road and will hopefully keep a client in boating for the long term.”

A new buyer is often coming off a one-week charter that was magical: perfect weather, a well-oiled boat, and a crew looking forward to a little R&R after hustling all week for the charter guests. “It’s relatively easy to make things work like that one week at a time,” says Dunbar. “But a new owner who wants to use their boat for 10, 15, or 30 weeks, that’s a totally different thing. You may have to tell them they need to hire two crews and rotate them—which will be news to them.” He said that overworking the crew will “burn through humans.” The crew will be miserable, he says, which will make the boat not live up to the owners’ expectations. “The next thing you know these new owners will be long gone from yachting.”

Fraser Yachts CEO Anders Kurtén sees the new buyers as a boon for design creativity in an old-school industry. “It starts with a piece of paper,” he says. “We sit down and start designing these boats for younger clients and we see similar trends. Basically they all want to live their shore-based lives on a yacht.”

The segmented and often claustrophobic interiors of many current superyacht designs, says Dirand, just doesn’t float with the new generation. “Young owners’ preferences are honed by hospitality and a knowledge of architectural trends,” he says.

Because of that, wellness centers have become focal points of design. As moguls like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg have made clear as of late, having six-pack abs in middle age is the new Lamborghini. These new owners expect their boats to be designed with beach clubs with gyms, saunas, massage areas that allow owners and guests to work out or relax, amidst warm sun rays and luscious sea breezes.

Kurtén also pointed to green tech as key for the new generation of clients. “We’ve hit a point where a 150-foot sailboat can go across the Atlantic without burning a drop of fuel. And motoryachts can function on battery-only mode, at least when they are close to port,” he says. “That’s important to these new clients—they want to be green. A few years ago that was something you said at a cocktail party, but today it’s a reality for a lot of buyers.”

Peter Selivanoff, senior yacht service manager for Fraser, also spoke about how owners are seeking highly specialized crews who can perform multiple functions across the yacht.

Navigating these new realities is an important part for the industry to future-proof itself in the competitive realm of ultra-luxury products. This is a place where youth may not spring eternal but, at least for now, it reigns supreme.

The 5th edition of the International exhibition of yachts and boats –  Moscow Boat Show , held from March 20 to 25, 2012 will be hosted by the first pavilion of Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre. This popular show is dedicated not only to the specialists of the market segment and professional sportsmen but also to those who consider sailing sport to be their hobby and well cherished dream.

The project is the result of joint efforts of the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre and the National Marine Industry Association. The event is supported by Aston Martin Moscow, Burevestnik Group logistics department and the Yachting specialized magazine. Moscow Boat Show is the largest project in Russia presenting all the best in the world of yachting.

The exhibition annually shows high level of attendance and has already proved as significant and noteworthy event in the world of yachts and boats. Every year new exhibitors join the list of participants, genuine “sharks” of yachting business, the quantity of visitors considerably increases and the exposition becomes more sated and diverse.

The best companies professionally involved into yachting and small navigation business – 180 exhibitors from 17 regions of the Russian Federation and 15 countries traditionally presented the best and the newest in the world of yachting at 2011 edition: from design and facilitation of vessels and up to cruising and training courses for beginning skippers. In 2011 the overall exhibit space comprised 18 000 sq m. More than 25 000 visitors came to the show.

This year the exposition space will increase up to 30 000 sq m and will be accommodated in 4 exhibition halls. The scale of the project confirms confident positions of its positive development. The organizers will try to arrange a genuine fiesta of water on land!

Quite a number of foreign exhibitors will participate in the show. Foreign companies show increasing interest to yachting business in Russia.

The superyacht world is speculating that Mark Zuckerberg just bought this 118-meter boat

• The 118-meter superyacht Launchpad made her maiden voyage last week.
• The yacht world is speculating that her owner is Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
• Here's what we know about the luxury vessel.

In the world of superyachts , privacy is the most valuable asset. It can be next to impossible to discern the details of a superyacht transaction — and that's particularly true if the vessel in question is worth nine figures.

Yet some in the boat blogging world are speculating that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the new owner of Launchpad, a megayacht currently moored in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after she made her maiden voyage from Gibraltar to St Maarten last week. Launchpad clocks in at 118 meters long, about nine meters shorter than Jeff Bezos' superyacht Koru .

The transaction could not be confirmed, with yacht world insiders declining to share what they know and representatives for Zuckerberg not responding to a request for comment from Business Insider. In the past, reports about Zuckerberg owning superyacht Ulysses have proven false.

"It is Feadship's standard policy to never divulge any information about our yachts with reference to ownership, costs, or delivery, etc," Feadship, the ship's builder, wrote to BI. "Whether it is an 18-meter Feadship from the 1960s or a 118-meter Feadship from the 21st century, we do not share private information."

But Zuckerberg's name has been connected to Launchpad for a few months now, beginning in December when reports swirled that he visited Feadship's shipyard in the Netherlands.

Then, earlier in March, yachting bloggers like eSysman SuperYachts and Autoevolution started speculating that he officially snagged the boat, originally built for a sanctioned Russian businessman, at a $300 million price tag. (While that's a seemingly huge amount, it's still less than 0.2% of Zuckerberg's $177 billion net worth.)

Another clue that might point to US ownership is that the yacht bears the flag of the Marshall Islands, a US territory and commonplace for American buyers to register their ships, according to public marine tracking.

If Zuckerberg were to have bought Launchpad, he would join a cohort of superyacht-owning tech billionaires . Along with Bezos, the likes of Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison and Google cofounders Sergey Brin and Larry Page have purchased impressive boats with even more impressive amenities.

SuperYacht Times , an industry publication and intelligence platform, has some of the best images of the yacht. Photos show a swimming pool on her main deck and a large helipad.

While less is known of the interior, a vessel of her size can likely sleep dozens of guests and crew and may have amenities like an expansive gym where Zuckerberg could practice his jiu-jitsu or a spa with a massage area. We suspect there's also space for plenty of toys — which could include his viral hydrofoil foil .
