The story behind rolls-royce’s new $28 million hand-built boat tail.

Rolls-Royce Boat Tail

The Boat Tail is quite a sensory feast. This latest project by Rolls-Royce is one of only three commissioned nautical inspired custom-built motor cars. Walking around its elongated silhouette, the body appears as a singular clear surface, uninterrupted by panel breaks. At the rear, the sailing boat theme becomes clear. With a press of a button, in a gesture inspired by architect Santiago Calatrava’s cantilever concepts, the deck opens in a theatrically sweeping butterfly form to reveal an intricate hosting suite complete with a bespoke champagne chest, two bottles of Armand de Brignac vintage cuvée, caviar and blinis. Finally, cocktail tables open on either side of the deck providing access to a couple of picnic stools. The Boat Tail is all about these unexpected pleasures.

“It exists far beyond a mere means of transport,” says Alex Innes, head of Rolls-Royce Coachbuild design as he guides me around the car in a sealed off section at the company’s UK plant in Goodwood. “The Boat Tail is not about reaching a destination,” he smiles, “it is the destination itself.” He opens the ceremonial coach doors and I peek inside. The space is neatly tailored and is a temple of ideas. You can feel the reassuring presence of the human hand and eye here. The Boat Tail is a stylistic tour de force and it is viscerally exhilarating. I cannot think of a better experience to end months of lockdown and, at least for a fleeting moment, lift the dark clouds of this pandemic.

Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is inspired by nautical design namely J-Class yachts

The idea of reviving Rolls-Royce’s coachbuilding heritage started four years ago with the hand built Sweptail . Customers began enquiring about similar one-off commissions, so the marque decided on setting-up a specialist Rolls-Royce Coachbuild division. The Boat Tail we see here is the first to be born out of this new venture with an estimated price of around £20m ($28m) although naturally, due to the client’s privacy, the maker won’t confirm this.

The nautical design theme, I’m told, was client-driven. Three of the customers who had approached Rolls-Royce following the Sweptail reveal shared a love for contemporary boat design and in particular J-Class yachts for their purity of form and expression and high levels of craftsmanship. This was timely since Innes and his design team had long wanted to re-imagine the Rolls-Royce boat tail typology, a legacy that saw coachbuilders graft the hull forms of sailing boats onto the rolling chassis of the car. And they all came to an agreement that the three cars would share the same body, but each would be individually crafted to reflect their owners’ personalities.

The Boat Tail's aft deck is a modern interpretation of the wooden rear decks of the classic ... [+] Rolls-Royce boat tail cars of the 1930s

Coachbuilding is as much about the product as the process - and it can be highly intimate. Innes explains that his team will set out to understand the client’s world, how they live, what they like and dislike, the way they celebrate, what and who they surround themselves with. Then there is the broader cultural context such as what’s happening in the arts, design and architecture — even hospitality.

Innes is reluctant to reveal much about the client of the Boat Tail before me other than the couple’s love of the color blue, fondness for long road trips and that they have a 1932 Rolls-Royce Boat Tail in their collection. The new car’s nautical rear is a contemporary take on the classic. For instance, the aft deck is a modern interpretation of the wooden rear decks of the 1932 car to include large swathes of wood. Caleidolegno veneer — the grey and black material typically housed in the interior — has been specially adapted to be used on the exterior. The open-pore material features a linear wood grain which is visually elongated by brushed stainless steel pinstripe inlays, serving as an optical nod to the typical wooden construction of yachts.

The unconventional fixed-canopy roof is physically removable for open-top driving. If the weather ... [+] turns mid drive, a temporary tonneau is stowed for static transitory shelter

“The client would talk about shared experiences and a sense of occasion,” Innes recalls of the numerous briefings they had in the four-year development time. This is what led to the rear hosting area — the Calatrava-inspired theatrical picnic area. “The idea is that the car hosts you,” he smiles.

We move to the front of the car. All Rolls-Royces have presence, but here the pantheon grille has been deconstructed into the car for an altogether softer appearance to the usual formal expression. “The iconography, the familiarity and the bone structure are all there, but it significantly lessens the formality which is important since this is a driver’s car,” says Innes. To balance this, the headlights have a strong horizontal graphic with deep-set daytime running lights for what appears like heavy brow-lines to frame classical round headlamps. At the rear, the horizontal shape is emphasized with wide, deep-set lamps — a different expression to the marque’s usual vertical lamp iconography.

The pantheon grille has been deconstructed into the car for an altogether softer appearance to the ... [+] usual formal expression

The Boat Tail is 5.8 meters long which serves to highlight the unusual boat tail design. “The calm simplicity of the surfaces is purposeful as we wanted the impact to come through the overall grandeur and scale,” explains Innes. “Everything else, we felt, could hang off that in terms of characterization,” he says adding: “It is modest in terms of its stylistic expression.” Nautical references are therefore more suggestive in profile. The wrap-around windscreen, for instance, recalls the visor on motor launches, while the gentle rearward lean of the A-pillar, the large, crisp volumes at the front and the tapered end have a gesture that, Innes explains, recalls a motor launch rising out of water under power. Elsewhere, a progressive negative sculpture in the lower bodyside offers a supple impression and is a reference to the running boards of prominent heritage Rolls-Royce designs.

The bespoke cutlery is by Christofle in Paris and is engraved with 'Boat Tail' while the double ... [+] refrigerator was developed to house the clients’ favorite Armand de Brignac vintage champagne size bottles

Inside the notes are pitch perfect. The cabin is lapped in luxury with every element meticulously crafted without being overwhelming. Sumptuous leather swathes the seats and doors while crafted wood and polished metal elements offer sensory engagement. There is a distinct appreciation of the qualities of light, proportion, and materials here with subtle nautical references throughout. For instance, blue is woven at a 55-degree angle into the technical fiber elements to be seen on the lower bodywork and orientated to emulate the spill of a water’s wake.

The minimalist fascia highlights the BOVET 1822 — the Swiss watchmaker was commissioned to make a special timepiece for this car. The instrument panel dials are adorned with the Guilloché decorative technique used by fine jewelers and watchmakers, while the slim rimmed two-tone steering wheel continues the blue theme. And since collecting pens is another of the clients’ passions, a cherished Montblanc sits in a hand-crafted aluminum and leather case in the glove box.

The coach doors on the Boat Tail add to the sense of occasion

Reviving coachbuilding makes absolute sense for Rolls-Royce since the marque has a rich history of hand crafting customized motor cars. And the Goodwood plant is well-appointed, with its advanced technology, highly skilled artisans and crafts people and with access to artist and creatives from outside the auto world.

Coachbuilt cars do not date, they do not get torn apart and recycled. Rather, they are passed on through generations and become part of the narrative of design history. As the antithesis of mass manufacturing, coachbuilding sits at the pinnacle of luxury – a space Rolls-Royce would like to maintain as we navigate the new age of the automobile. And because of the time, skills and effort put into these singular projects, they can lead to unexpected and imaginative design solutions.

To ensure the smoothest color application when rendering the exterior, a finger was run over the ... [+] definitive body line before the paint had fully dried to soften its edges

Like the Sweptail, the Boat Tail salutes the golden age of coachbuilding, the period in the late 1920s and early 30s when the project was often as much about the motor cars as the personalities who commissioned them. There are so many, but I’m particularly fond of the story of the 1926 Phantom I Brougham De Ville — or “The Phantom Of Love” as it became known. It was built for Clarence Warren Gasque, an American businessman of French ancestry living in London, as a gift to his heiress wife Maude. Gasque wished for a lavish interior to emulate the Rococo ambience of a salon in the Palace of Versailles, with polished satinwood veneer paneling, Aubusson tapestries and a painted ceiling inspired by one of Marie Antoinette’s chairs, complete with a French Ormolu clock mounted on the partition between the front and rear cabins.

“We really wanted the Boat Tail to point to our future,” Innes tells me as we begin to wrap up. “These projects can sometimes be too biased towards history. While the notion of hand built Rolls-Royces is significant to us, we want the design to boldly point towards the future and Coachbuild has offered us the freedom to move beyond the usual constraints.”

The 5 Most Expensive Superyachts in the World

By Brett Berk

Eclipse the private luxury yacht of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich anchors in Fethiye district of Mugla

Though superyachts are already among the most costly consumer items available for purchase, the prices of the most expensive superyachts in the world are still astounding. In recent decades, those with money to burn have settled on these floating palaces as an ideal locus for demonstrating their prosperity, and as such, the global superyacht industry is undergoing a golden age. The world’s über-wealthy think of their superyachts as toys, and they’re constantly trying to outdo each other in scale, design, amenities, materials, and sheer profligacy.

Knowing this, what features does it take to own one of the most expensive superyachts in existence? And how much do these opulent vessels actually cost? To that end, AD has compiled a list of the five priciest superyachts currently out on the water. As with many things connected to the very wealthy, details are shrouded in secrecy—often intentionally—to protect privacy or to shield the assets from taxation or seizure. Below, dive into the five reportedly most expensive superyachts in the world.

Super yacht Dubai is moored at the Doha Sailin

5. Dubai ($400 million)

This 531-foot yacht is reportedly owned by United Arab Emirates Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai. Though it was originally planned for another Middle Eastern potentate, Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei, he suddenly voided the contract in 2001. With exteriors designed by Andrew Winch and interiors by Platinum Yachts, this German-built Blohm + Voss vessel features several Jacuzzis, a pool inlaid with handmade mosaic tiles that is reportedly large enough to hold 115 people, a circular staircase, a discotheque, squash courts, a movie theater, a dining room for 90 guests (the other 25 presumably have to eat in the pool?), a helipad, and a submarine.

4. Topaz ($527 million)

Resembling a stealth bomber, this 483-foot ship is reportedly owned by Russian fertilizer and coal oligarch, Andrey Melnichenko. With exteriors by Tim Heywood Design Ltd. and interior designs by Terence Disdale Design, this German-built Lürssen Yacht features a 2,500-square-foot primary bedroom, six guest suites (with moveable walls so they can be transformed into four grand staterooms), glassware and tableware fashioned from French crystal, a helicopter hangar, a 30-foot speedboat tender, and three swimming pools, including one with a glass-bottom dangling menacingly above a disco.

3. Azzam ($600 million)

This 590-foot ship is currently thought to be the largest private yacht in the world and one of the fastest, with a top speed of 35 miles per hour. To achieve this immense scale and speed, it required a pair of gas turbines and two stratospherically potent diesel engines, rendering it very difficult to build. It is reportedly owned by a member of the royal family of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. With exteriors by Nauta Yacht and interiors by French decorator Cristophe Leoni, this yacht was also built by Lürssen in Germany. The vessel is set apart by its early 19th-century empire-style veneered furniture, as well as its state-of-the-art security systems including a fully bulletproof primary suite and a high-tech missile deterrence capabilities.

2. Eclipse ($1.5 billion)

In addition to being the second-costliest, this 533-footer is thought to be the world’s second-largest private yacht. Owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, the ship was claimed to be located in Turkey and may be impounded as part of the United Kingdom’s sanctions against Russia. Designed by Terry Disdale and built by Blohm + Voss, it features two-dozen guest cabins, two swimming pools, two helipads, and multiple hot tubs. For privacy and security reasons, it hosts a missile detection system, bulletproof windows in the primary bedroom and on the bridge, an anti-paparazzi shield and, when all of that fails, a mini-submarine that can take a few VIPs 164 feet under the ocean’s surface.

1. History Supreme ($4.8 billion)

History Supreme has never actually been seen in a major port, and rumors suggest that the yacht may not be real, and instead just a publicity stunt. Reportedly owned by Malaysia’s richest man, Robert Kuok, and designed by Stuart Hughes in the UK, the yacht is only a paltry 100 feet long. Its worth is said to be derived from its lavish finishes, including a statue constructed from genuine Tyrannosaurus rex bones, a liquor bottle embedded with an 18.5-carat diamond, and a primary bedroom with one wall made from meteorite and another from a 24-carat gold Aquavista Panoramic Wall Aquarium. As Far As You Can Sea: World’s Largest Superyachts

Multimillion-dollar mega yachts.

by Emma Treagus Published on February 2, 2024

At Luxe Digital, we independently research, review, and recommend products we love and that we think you will love, too. Learn more about how we curate the best products for you .

With onboard swimming pools, cinemas, helicopter landing pads, and spas, the world’s largest superyachts have more facilities than your ‘average’ five-star hotel.

Owned by some of the world’s wealthiest people—along with a few anonymous owners who’d prefer to keep their luxury transport a secret—these mega yachts redefine the word “boat” into something indescribably sleek, stylish, and seriously impressive.

If superyachts are your thing, you’ll want to read on for all the facts and figures on all of the largest yachts in the world.

The 26 largest yachts in the world

Multimillion-dollar mega yachts: our ranking methodology.

A superyacht or mega yacht is typically a motor yacht or sailing yacht with a length of 30 meters (100 feet) or more. For this ranking, we looked at the superyachts and luxury expedition mega yachts that are used privately or made available for charter. We excluded so-called ‘residential superyachts’ (think Njord and The World), which are essentially luxury apartment buildings at sea where people own private residences inside the superyacht rather than the whole yacht. By researching diverse, reliable sources like Wikipedia and the Superyacht Times, we compile a list of the largest yachts in the world.

Curious about other striking superlatives? Check our round-up of the most expensive cars in the world and the most expensive private jets in the world . They are both perfectly good alternatives to owning a yacht. And if you prefer to stay home, we’ve ranked the biggest homes and the most expensive houses in the world to give you some inspiration too.

26. Y721 (aka Koru) | 417 feet—127m

largest super yachts world y721 aka koru by oceanic - Luxe Digital

Ever wonder where Jeff Bezos spends his downtime? As of today, we’re predicting it to be on his $500 million superyacht. Y721—nicknamed Koru—is 127m long. And featuring three sky-high slender masts, Koru is said to be the largest sailing yacht in the world .

With dark exteriors and natural wooden decks, Koru is inspired by another one of Bezos’ yachts—the Black Pearl. The clean lines and classically curved bow speak to an understated elegance despite the yacht’s mammoth size. While a long line of portals indicates at least 9 guest cabins. In light of all the secrecy surrounding Koru, we doubt Bezos will ever charter her out, but we can still dream.

25. Al Mirqab | 436 feet—133m

largest super yachts world serene al mirqab - Luxe Digital

Adorned with cascading chandeliers and gold accents, Al Mirqab is renowned for its unrivaled interiors. Surrounded by suspended glass artworks, a grand staircase floats throughout the four floors. And inspired by authentic Arabian styles, the magnificent superyacht is reminiscent of a magic carpet ride through the seas .

Built for the former Prime Minister of Qatar, Peterswerft-Kusch spared no expense in delivering Al Mirqab to an impossibly high standard for luxury. The large swimming pool is a standout feature as it opens up into the sea, creating the ultimate playground for adults. Al Mirqab has a capacity for up to 60 guests and is manned by an equal number of crew. Although you have to be invited by the politician himself as Al Mirqab isn’t available for private charter.

24. Serene | 439 feet—134m

Adeptly named, the magnificent superyacht embodies the serenity of a life at sea. Serene was built in Italy for a Russian owner in 2011. She was leased to Bill Gates for the Summer in 2014 for $5 million per week.

Designed by Reymond Langton, the 134m mega yacht marries elegant sophistication with state-of-the-art technologies. The seven decks leave ample space for guests to soak in scintillating views. While the underwater viewing room—nicknamed the Nemo room—is a permanent gallery of resplendent sealife. The real-life snow room makes up to four inches of snow. And whilst this may seem odd when your billionaire boss asks for snow—you make it snow.

23. Crescent | 445 feet – 136 m

largest yachts crescent - Luxe Digital

Yet another Lurssen masterpiece, Crescent pays homage to classic naval designs with traditional architecture and elegant interiors. Formerly named Project Thunder, she was built in Germany and delivered to Igor Sechin in 2018. The Russian oligarch’s superyacht was seized by Spain after sanctions were placed on Russia in 2022.

Crescent features low bulwarks and full-height windows to maximize the view from the center of the boat. Her distinctive wing station provides unrivaled views for up to 18 guests. But don’t get your hopes up—Crescent is strictly for private use only and isn’t available for charter.

22. Savarona | 446 feet – 136m

largest yachts savarona - Luxe Digital

Savarona is the second-largest yacht built by Blohm & Voss and spends most of her time in the Mediterranean. This luxury superyacht is one of the oldest in the market — a perfect fusion of traditional charm and modern facilities.

Previously named Gunes Dil, Savarona was designed by Cox & Stevens, with interior design carefully handled by Donald Starkey. She’s available to charter on a weekly basis and has been refurbished over the years. Back in the day, her cost price was $4 million, and in 1989, she was chartered by Kahraman Sadikoglu, owner of the Turkish Sadikoglu Group, who spent an estimated $50 million on refurbishing her from top to bottom.

21. Flying Fox | 446 feet – 136m

largest yachts flying fox - Luxe Digital

Flying Fox is known as the most expensive charter yacht in the world , and a week aboard will set you back around $3 million. Chartered by the one and only power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z in 2021, it’s filled to the brim with all of the luxury facilities you could ever possibly want.

The Flying Fox is rumored to be owned by Jeff Bezos, although that’s a claim that’s never been totally certified. She spends most of her time in the Mediterranean, specifically Cannes, Capri, and Sardinia, although she’s recently visited Norway, too. She can accommodate the largest helicopters on the market, and it reportedly took more than 50 meetings with her owner for interior design to be completed.

20. Rising Sun | 454 feet – 138m

largest yachts rising sun - Luxe Digital

The Rising Sun’s original owner, Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle Corporation, sold her in 2010 as he considered her too large. Famously used by David Geffen for self-isolation, Rising Sun has also been a popular hang-out spot for celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Beatrice, the Princess of York.

She’s a Superyacht with impressive attention to detail like interiors kitted out in teak and onyx and endless features like a full gym , a large wine cellar, a sauna, and a spa. She’s got a full-size basketball court that doubles up as a helicopter landing pad and a private cinema for those long evenings spent at sea.

19. Al Salamah | 457 feet – 139m

largest yachts al salamah - Luxe Digital

Al Salamah is part of the Omani Royal fleet and started her very secretive life in Genoa. Known as the world’s biggest superyacht right up until 2016, she’s a sleek masterpiece of a ship, with a distinctive cream color and beach club design.

Al Salamah does everything in multiples, from the five galleys onboard (the main galley, a bakery, a crew galley, an owner’s diet galley, and an Arab galley), three hospitals (one for the owner, one for guests, and one for the crew) and 2,000 sqm of floor space. She was put on sale briefly for $280 million USD, before being delisted and instead given as a gift to the Crown Prince of Bahrain.

18. Solaris | 458 feet – 139m

largest yachts solaris - Luxe Digital

Everything about Solaris was supposed to be kept a secret when she was being built—a secret that didn’t last long when her huge size was spotted undergoing sea trials in the North Sea. One of this Superyacht’s main attractions is her beach club on the top floor: the perfect spot for relaxation during those long days out at sea.

That beach club comes complemented with endless other stylish amenities, like a large helipad, sun deck, and a crane to launch tenders, toys, and subs. Interior design is largely unknown, but, if it’s anything as sleek and white as its exteriors, it’s sure to be impressive.

17. Scheherazade | 459 feet – 140m

largest yachts scheherazade - Luxe Digital

Two helicopter landing pads, two outdoor Jacuzzis, and two outdoor fire pits: Scheherazade doesn’t hold back with not only the essentials but also the luxuries. Previously named Lightning, “Scheherazade” is mostly associated with a female character in the Middle Eastern folk tales in the series One Thousand and One Nights.

Not much is known about this superyacht, and even her birth and building process were referred to under a codename: Project Lightning. No one involved in her creation, even Lurssen, has revealed anything about her interiors or her owner. All that’s really known is that she sailed from Germany to Norway initially after completion.

16. Ocean Victory | 460 feet – 140m

largest yachts ocean victory - Luxe Digital

Ocean Victory has traveled all over the world, from Europe to Southeast Asia and back again. Owned by Russian billionaire Viktor Rashnikov, she’s the upgraded vessel to follow his purchase of the 76-meter Ebony Shine.

She’s one designed with pure luxury in mind, from the six individual swimming pools onboard to the 300-square meter spa area. She’s beautiful both inside and out, with a unique concept designed by Espen Oeino and interior designer Alberto Pinto. The largest superyacht ever built in Italy, Ocean Victory shows some of the finest in the world when it comes to premium quality adventures at sea.

15. Yas | 463 feet – 141m

largest yachts yas - Luxe Digital

Yas is known best for its seamless and rather unusual design — one that’s a little different from most superyachts out there. The owner of Yas wanted a yacht that lived up to his own heritage; one with a backbone reminiscent of the navy and with abstract lines throughout.

He chose an existing boat in Abu Dhabi, which was deconstructed within the region before being shipped off and renovated into the wonder that it is today. The Yas yacht was originally a Dutch navy frigate, which you’d never guess from strolling around onboard today.

14. Nord | 465 feet – 142m

largest yachts nord - Luxe Digital

Nord’s distinctive bow design has never been seen before on a yacht. That’s one of the first things you’ll notice about her. The next thing you’ll notice is her unusual design, which verges on battle-esque and has been called “ a warship wearing a tuxedo ” by Dan Lenard of the Italian design studio Nuvolari-Lenard.

She’s one of the best superyachts out there for fun, with a sports and diving center on the lower deck, a swimming pool higher up, overlooking the ocean, and a fleet of tenders. She was designed for global exploration: a yacht that will calmly cruise her way all across the world.

13. Sailing Yacht A | 469 feet—142.8m

Challenging the status quo and pushing design boundaries, Sailing Yacht A is an enigma. The sail-assisted superyacht was built in Germany and delivered to Russian tycoon Andrey Melnichenko in 2017. However, she was seized by the Italian police force, Guardia di Finanza, in 2022 after sanctions were placed on Russian businessmen following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Distinguished by soaring rotating carbon fiber masts, Nobiskrug’s hybrid approach to superyachts makes Sailing Yacht A more eco-conscious than other luxury yachts of her size. The u nderwater viewing pod molded into the keel speaks to her unrivaled innovation. And many balconies are enclosed by some of the largest pieces of curved glass ever made.

12. El Mahrousa | 478 feet – 146m

largest yachts el mahrousa - Luxe Digital

El Mahrousa had a few different names in her time, ranging from the translated “The Protected” to El Horreya, which in Arabic translates to “Freedom.” It’s not surprising that she’s had more than one name when you take into account her age. As the oldest superyacht in the world, she’s undergone a lot of restoration over time, including multiple lengthenings and faster engines.

She was renamed back to El Mahrousa in 2000 and gained even more recognition for being the first ship to cross the new Suez Canal extension in 2015. Back in her original days, she was built on the River Thames and took her first trip in 1867.

11. OK | 479 feet—146m

largest yachts ok - Luxe Digital

Delivered in Japan in 1982, OK is one of the largest and most unique superyachts in the world. Sprawling over 479 feet, the water giant is engineered to submerge almost seventy percent. This is accredited to the work done by Karmarine Shipyard. While the majority of the vessel was built by Oshima Shipping, it was privately converted to a semi-submersible yacht in Turkey.

The superlative finishing on OK superyacht was designed by Timur Bozca, winner of the Younger Designer of the Year award in 2015. The blueprint being as many games as possible. The extraordinary vessel has the uncanny ability to hold over seventy toys, including a sailing yacht, a sea plane, tenders, buggies and even a tennis court.

10. Opera | 480 feet—146.4m

largest yachts opera - Luxe Digital

Like many of the most majestic water titans, Opera was delivered by Lurssen in Germany and built for Abu Dhabi royalty. This time, the owner is Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, son of the founder of the United Arab Emirates. And while it may not be quite as astronomical as Lurssen’s previous builds—Azzam, Blue and Dilbar—the streamlined vessel is equally impressive onboard.

The three-story superyacht proves large enough for a pair of helipads and two swimming pools, amongst many other toys, while simultaneously making room for up to 48 guests and 80 crew members. When it comes to the interior, details are sparse, but we do know that it was designed by Terence Disdale, a London firm renowned for creating bespoke luxury spaces.

9. Prince Abdulaziz | 482 feet – 147m

largest yachts prince abdulaziz - Luxe Digital

The Prince Abdulaziz’s yacht was ordered by King Fahd, who named her after his son Prince Abdul Aziz. Now, she’s owned by his brother, Abdullah. Just one of the yachts owned by the Saudi royal family, she’s spotted frequently throughout Europe, especially in Cannes, where the royal family owns a property.

She’s been redecorated once — in 2007 — in a project that took 15 months to complete, without even taking into account the rest of the ship’s upkeep. The Prince Abdulaziz is known for its combination of bold colors and fusion of traditional and modern design, thanks to its influence from the late David Hicks.

8. A+ | 483 feet – 147m

largest yachts a plus - Luxe Digital

What do you do when the name “A” is already taken for your superyacht? Choose the next closest thing: A+. Previously named Topaz, this superyacht was the world’s fourth-largest luxury yacht when she was built, before being stripped of that particular title only a few years later.

Nevertheless, she’s a seriously impressive superyacht, with endless facilities like a large jacuzzi, double helicopter landing pads, a swimming pool with a swimming platform and underwater lights, as well as a fitness hall, cinema, and a large conference room. She’s also well equipped with water toys, like jet skis, inflatable boats, a catamaran, and even a mini-submarine.

7. Al Said | 508 feet – 155m

largest yachts al said - Luxe Digital

Another Superyacht built, shrouded in secrecy, Al-Said was referred to as “Project Sunflower” the entire time she was being created, right up until she was delivered to her owner in 2008. Not much is known about Al Said, from her movements through to her amenities — although she is known to have a huge concert room with space for a full 50-person orchestra.

Currently, she’s flying the flag of Oman and has spent a lot of time in its surrounding waters. Her interior was styled by British designer design house RWD, with exterior design being credited to Espen Oeino. When she was delivered to the Sultan of Oman, she replaced a previous ship of a smaller size.

6. Dilbar | 511 feet – 156m

largest yachts dilbar - Luxe Digital

Dilbar, or Project Omar, as it was originally known as, is another superyacht designed with the help of exterior expert Espen Oeino, but with interiors strikingly designed by Andrew Winch. Dilbar is famously known as the world’s largest yacht by gross tonnage (interior volume) but as the fifth-longest superyacht in the world.

She’s home to a spa pool and beach club, as well as a large private cinema, spacious cabins set high on the main deck, a spacious dining room, and a salon with its own piano. She’s just as classy and beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.

5. Blue | 527 feet—160.6m

largest super yachts world blue lurssen - Luxe Digital

Sunday blues simply cease to exist on one of the world’s most extravagant superyachts. The elegant behemoth was built for member of the ruling family of Abu Dhabi and billionaire, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2022. Valued at over $600 million, Blue is one of the most expensive superyachts in the world. And with a strong emphasis on the environment, this superyacht is also one of the most sustainable.

Blue strives to be as environmentally friendly as possible. She is equipped with a highly efficient Diesel-Electric Hybrid Propulsion Concept developed by Lürssen’s own engineering specialists. And the wastewater treatment plant allows water to be disposed of in drinking water quality.

4. Dubai | 531 feet – 162m

largest yachts dubai - Luxe Digital

Dubai had multiple names in the planning stages—including Panhandle, Platinum, and Golden Star. Owned by the ruler of Dubai, it was aptly named after its home country and comes with all of the luxurious amenities you’d expect from such a name.

The Dubai comes complete with a huge swimming pool and two jacuzzis. Further down, you’ll find a large dining room with striking blue and burgundy decor and space for up to 90 guests. Dubai usually spends her time moored at Sheikh Mohammed’s private island in front of his summer palace in Dubai. She’s basically the definition of a floating palace.

3. Eclipse | 533 feet – 162.5m

largest yachts eclipse - Luxe Digital

It took around five years for Eclipse to be built from start to finish. While she was always designed to be a huge, luxurious Superyacht, the focus was more on decking it out appropriately rather than breaking any records. An award-winning superyacht, she’s incredibly spacious, with endless rooms to explore and a sleek, neutral color palette running through.

The Eclipse’s owner, Roman Abramovich, was more focused on facilities: he wanted more than one helicopter pad and a large swimming pool, too. Other than that, designer Terry Disdale had free reign for the rest of the superyacht. It’s just as much a clean piece of architectural styling as it is a stunning experience on deck.

2. Fulk Al Salamah | 538 feet – 164m

largest yachts fulk al salamah - Luxe Digital

Fulk Al Salamah translates to “Ship of Peace” and that’s something that sounds like a given when you’ve taken a look at this superyacht’s incredible layout. Developed under the codename Project Saffron, Fulk Al Salamah is more of a support vessel than she is a typical superyacht.

While she might still come complete with all of the necessities for a particularly relaxing voyage, she’s more so known for being a transport ship for the Royal Navy of Oman. She’s also used as a sort of friendship boat — pun intended — and is often sailed across the world with the intention of strengthening ties with the Sultanate. In some ports, influential people are welcomed onboard.

1. Azzam | 590 feet – 181m

largest yachts azzam - Luxe Digital

Most superyachts in the top 10 category have a few mere inches between sizes, but the Azzam shoots far ahead with a large amount of extra length. The largest superyacht in the world, she was never designed to win the title — rather just to be a sleek and elegant vessel. Azzam was crafted backward, with the plans for her interior confirmed long before her exterior was fully signed off.

Her length only came to be as such to incorporate everything required for the interiors, which added an extra 35 meters to her overall size. She’s also designed to look smaller than she actually is, with a blend of indoor and outdoor living. It took more than 4,000 people to build Azzam , clocking up six million man-hours over a period of four years.

The most expensive yacht in the world

The fact that the History Supreme, the world’s most expensive superyacht, comes coated in gold, is only part of the reason for its high cost. A superyacht with a real-life Midas touch, it was sold to an anonymous Malaysian businessman for $4.8 billion.

Robert Kuok, the richest Malaysian businessman, is the rumored owner of History Supreme, but no one has confirmed for sure. The History Supreme also comes with plenty of other impressive touches: a master bedroom decked out in platinum, a wall feature made from meteoric stone, and a genuine T-Rex dinosaur bone, to add to the list.

She took three years to build from scratch and comes with 10,000 kilograms of solid gold and platinum. Other seriously luxe features are her 68 kilograms 24-carat gold Aquavista Panoramic Wall Aquarium and a liquor bottle adorned with a rare 18.5-carat diamond . The base of the vessel comes wrapped in gold, too.

“ Sarafsa is the only 269-foot superyacht that has a two-story owner’s penthouse apartment,” designer Andrew Winch told Robb Report . “It’s a feature that doesn’t exist on 90 percent of yachts.”

'Sarafsa' Superyacht

The duplex includes an owner’s suite with a vast dressing room and walk-in wardrobe, a marble en suite with shower and full-sized bath, and a private salon forward with a bar. For new owners looking to maximize the space with minimum refit cost, there is a staff cabin and VIP that Winch suggests converting into a children’s cabin and private study. Open exterior decks forward and aft allow for a steady sea breeze, as the owner—who was last aboard his yacht in the summer of 2021—used to regularly enjoy.

The owner’s previous yacht of the same name was a 179-foot Damen delivered in 1997. That yacht was originally intended to be no larger than 98 feet so that it could be kept in the small bay near his home in Capriana, northern Italy, a perk that its final length prevented. It shared a Venetian-style Winch interior like Sarafsa ’s—burgundy and old gold with a large amount of heavy dark mahogany paneling. The biggest difference between the two is Sarafsa ’s immense 3,179 gross tonnages.

The vast 49-foot beam was defined by the owner’s request for a sun deck swimming pool that could remain filled while underway. To mitigate any roll, the boat was built to be wide and steady—at least 20% percent wider than most other 269-foot yachts.

The sun deck also contains a spa—hammam, sauna, massage room and a television mounted on ceiling tracks to be viewed from all angles. There is also a touch-and-go helipad aft. Two custom-built Winch-designed limousines and open tenders are stored on the main deck concealed behind opening hull doors, though there is a concealed crane on the sundeck to lift and store two additional tenders on the helipad when not in use.

Guests have the option of boarding the yacht from a waterside door starboard and stepping straight into a lift that ascends from the waterline to the sundeck. “It held the record as the longest lift on a 269-foot yacht until we designed Phoenix II ,” says Winch. The service lift goes one level further, descending all the way to the tank deck, and a second starboard hull door specifically for diving.

The informal salon on the bridge deck features a bar that is designed around one of the owner’s favorite hotels in Milan. Guests sit in armchairs rather than bar stools and the bar tender stands at eye level on a lowered floor.

'Sarafsa' Superyacht

“We mimicked that hotel bar on his first yacht, and he loved it so much we installed two sunken bars aboard Sarafsa ,” says Winch. The bridge deck salon also has a piano, fireplace (though never lit) and a “TV lounge”—one central television surrounded by 16 smaller televisions to “watch all television channels simultaneously.”

The six en suite cabins are dressed in cream, pink and pistachio-hued silks and named after Mediterranean destinations, such as Santorini, Portofino and Monaco. Marble colonnades and ornate flooring sit alongside intricate wooden inlaid surfaces. In contrast, the primary suite—named Sharma—has a bold color palette laced in thick velvet and a theatrical headboard. It’s in keeping with the dramatic deep reds and blues found elsewhere in the yacht, though Winch believes the interior lends itself to a light-filled, contemporary alternative.

“The wood paneling can easily be replaced with cream silk panels or painted white,” he says. “The architecture and joinery provide a perfect foundation without having to rip everything out.”

The lower deck houses accommodation for 23 crew and nine staff cabins with a continuous corridor that links the amidships engine room to the forward and aft areas, including a security office. Other key areas include a hair/beauty salon, a dedicated owner’s galley opposite the formal dining room and an 11-seat cinema.

In recent years the sun deck pool was replaced with a deep therapeutic jacuzzi that enjoys a counterflow current for fitness swimming. It sits under a retractable roof, sheltered from view and shaded from the sun, and mirrors the pool design aboard the 403-foot yacht Golden Odyssey , once owned by Prince Khaled bin Sultan, brother of Prince Fahad Bin Sultan, before it was sold at auction in Malta for an estimated €150 million ($162 million) in October 2022.

With an influx of gigayachts now coming onto the market, and American owners looking to build increasingly larger yachts, interest in refitting yachts like Golden Odyssey and Sarafsa is gaining real traction, says Nelson.

Did Volodymyr Zelenskyy use US aid to buy yachts? No, that’s False

If your time is short.

The documents claiming to show the yacht purchases were fabricated. They include an outdated name and logo of a yacht association that supposedly approved the purchases.

The two yachts named in the documents, "Lucky Me" and "My Legacy," are still for sale.

  • No spin, just facts you can trust. Here’s how we do it.

In the two years since Russia invaded Ukraine, the United States has sent Ukraine more than $75 billion in military and humanitarian aid. But some social media users are claiming Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is misusing the funds.

A Feb. 19 Instagram post shared an excerpt from a Nov. 27 episode of the "Redacted" podcast in which co-host Clayton Morris said Zelenskyy "somehow managed to buy two multimillion-dollar yachts … totaling $75 million." (Redacted removed this episode from its YouTube and Facebook accounts. Copies and a transcript of the video are still available online.)

Morris cited documents that he said showed Zelenskyy purchased two luxury yachts, "Lucky Me" and "My Legacy," in October 2023 using two associates as proxies.

"Americans, of course, are paying for this luxury, though. Your tax dollars, so Zelenskyy can live in luxury," said Morris, who has previously shared false claims about Zelenskyy, including that he was becoming a U.S. citizen .

The Instagram post’s caption said, "It’s a good thing that we’re able to give the president of the #Ukraine #billions of dollars to buy these #yachts and live an extravagant lifestyle. I mean, to fight a #war against #Russia."

The post was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta , which owns Facebook and Instagram.)

The purchase documents are inauthentic as they include outdated information. The yachts purportedly bought by Zelenskyy’s associates are still for sale.

The documents are titled "Memorandum of Agreement approved by the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association." However, the organization that supposedly approved this 2023 sale changed its name to MYBA The Worldwide Yachting Association in 2008. MYBA also uses a different logo now than the one shown on the documents.

Featured Fact-check

28 million dollar yacht

A blank version of MYBA’s memorandum of agreement document from 2005 is available to download for free online.

The two yachts were supposedly purchased by Boris and Serhiy Shefir, close friends and business partners of Zelenskyy’s. Before Zelenskyy was elected Ukraine’s president in 2019, he and the Shefir brothers worked together at the film production company Kvartal 95 Studio.

Boris Shefir supposedly purchased the yacht called "Lucky Me" for $24.9 million on Oct. 18, 2023, one of the documents says. However, as of Feb. 21, the luxury yacht company BehneMar still listed the yacht for sale for 19 million euros, or about $20.5 million U.S. dollars.

A week after Boris Shefir’s purported purchase, Serhiy Shefir supposedly purchased the  "My Legacy" yacht for $49.75 million on Oct. 25, 2023, the other document says. However, as of Feb. 21, this yacht was also still listed for sale for about 45 million euros, or about $48 million U.S. dollars.

Although these purchases were fabricated, Zelenskyy’s financial relationship with Boris and Serhiy Shefir has been called into question in the past.

In 2021, the Pandora Papers revealed that a month before Zelenskyy was elected president, he transferred previously undisclosed shares in an offshore company, Maltex Multicapital Corp., to Serhiy Shefir, who later joined Zelenskyy’s administration. Boris Shefir was also a part-owner of Maltex, but he said he was unaware of the offshore arrangement, the nonprofit Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project reported at the time.

Multiple government agencies and hundreds of personnel are overseeing the U.S. aid sent to Ukraine. Experts told PolitiFact in February 2023 that there are checks in place to prevent misuse, such as funneling economic aid through the World Bank and humanitarian aid through nongovernmental aid groups.

The Senate recently passed a $95 billion emergency spending package that would allocate additional funding to support Ukraine, as well as aid for Israel and Gaza. But the package faces Republican opposition in the House.

We rate the claim that Zelenskyy used U.S. aid funds to buy two yachts for $75 million False.

A Closer Look At The $28 Million Rolls-Royce Boat Tail Reveals Why It’s Worth Every Penny

Priced at a rumored $28 million, the fully bespoke Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is the most expensive new car ever made.

Key Takeaways

  • The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is an incredibly luxurious and expensive car, with only three models ever being made.
  • The craftsmanship and attention to detail in the Boat Tail are unparalleled, with over 1,800 unique parts and fully bespoke customization options.
  • The Boat Tail is owned by high-profile individuals such as Jay-Z and Beyonce, and each model takes nearly a year to hand-build, making it a true masterpiece of automotive design.

Rolls-Royce as a brand defines luxury. The company has been in existence for over 100 years , and in this time, they have produced some outstanding luxury cars . Perhaps the best example is the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, a bespoke grand tourer from the company's Coachbuild department.

Updated September 2023: With new Rolls-Royce Coachbuild commissions now revealed, we've updated this article to see where the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail stands, and if still is the most expensive new car in the world.

Apart from being a work of art, it's also one of the world's most expensive new cars , even if its price tag is only speculated at since Rolls-Royce hasn't actually revealed it. If that isn't brag-worthy enough, you can count on one hand how many examples of the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail will be made, which sort of justifies the eye-watering price tag.

What Makes The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail So Special?

The Rolls-Royce Sweptail was a luxury car unveiled in 2017. The design of the Boat Tail is similar to the Sweptail , and they both are inspired by yachts of the 1920s and 1930s. The Boat Tail series was designed by the company's specialized Coachbuild division at the Goodwood facility. The art of coach building is something that unifies engineers, craftsmen, and artists to create an entirely new motorcar.

The Boat Tail is the company’s most ambitious project, and the entire coach building process is done in collaboration with its clients. Although the premium car shares most of its underpinnings with the Rolls-Royce Phantom, the flagship series-production sedan , it features over 1,800 fully unique parts.

The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail series are fully bespoke cars, with no two being alike in the way they are specced, and what materials are used to personalize them. Of course, that only three models of the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail will ever be made also adds to its significance.

Who Owns A Rolls-Royce Boat Tail?

As reported, a total of just three Rolls-Royce Boat Tail models will be built. The first Rolls-Royce Boat Tail commission was revealed to the world in 2021. This car finished in oceanic blue was said to be commissioned by rapper Jay-Z and his popstar-wife, Beyonce . At the time of the reveal, this information was not made public, but all the rumors from all the sources can't be wrong. The blue example of the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail was spotted recently in Dubai . The second Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, finished in a cognac-brown has been commissioned by a wealthy private buyer, and was revealed in 2022. It's not known if the third owner will choose to publicly display their car.

Since the vehicle is entirely hand-built, it took Rolls-Royce nearly a year to finish each Boat Tail model from scratch. Every car is customized to its owner's taste and liking, and there is no compromise in terms of quality. It is reported that the second of the three Rolls-Royce Boat Tails has been commissioned by a businessman who made his fortune in the pearl business started by his father.

The gentleman owns an extensive collection of classic and modern-day cars, kept in a private museum, and the Boat Tail will now be the latest addition to this collection. Although the car’s design is similar to the previous version, the paint shade is very exclusive and uses pearl tints and rose gold. Besides, it also contains fine gold and bronze-colored aluminum mica flakes embedded in the paint for an added touch of opulence.

Why The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail Is Worth $28 Million

The company takes comfort and luxury to the next level by sending a painted panel of the vehicle to the owner’s residence only to inspect how the color would look in different sunlight conditions. The interior is just as beautiful as the exterior, and Rolls-Royce takes care of the minor details by providing men's and women's watches manufactured by Bovet Fleurier. What is extraordinary about these watches is that they can be worn as a wristwatch, used as a desk clock, or even as a pocket watch.

The car also has rotating cocktail tables, matching stool seats, a complete set of Christofle tableware, and two fridges in the same color scheme to match the champagne bottles. The care of such intricate details can be taken only by Rolls-Royce . The Boat Tail is technologically so advanced, the Bose sound system in the Boat Tail uses the car's floor structure as a resonance chamber. Moreover, it includes a Montblanc pen in a hand-crafted case inside the glove box.

The interior is beautifully crafted with cognac and oyster leather and a touch of royal walnut veneer on the dashboard. The gauges and control knobs all feature real mother-of-pearl inlays, and the removable timepiece mounted in the dashboard is made from a piece of pearl supplied by the owner themselves. A picnic set located on the deck features Porcelain glasses and plates with a rose gold finish. The signature butterfly design for the rear deck is carried forward from the previous vehicle.

However, the specialty of this particular example is that even the signature Rolls-Royce hood ornament, the Spirit of Ecstasy is finished in rose gold , something never seen before on a Roller. The large grille upfront is also made out of a single piece of aluminum and has a brushed metal finish. All of this inclusively makes this example of the Boat Tail worth every penny of the $25-28 million asking price.

Related: Why Rolls-Royce Boat Tail Is The Most Exquisite And Expensive Luxury Car Ever

Is The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail The Most Expensive Car?

Overall, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is an ultra-exclusive and expensive car. Rolls-Royce can be defined as an automobile manufacturer producing sheer works of art on wheels. Of course, the company is constantly outdoing itself, and the latest Rolls-Royce Drop Tail commission is again said to be the most expensive car in the world . The estimated price tag on the new Amethyst Drop Tail is said to in the region of $28 million, so it's entirely possible the previous run of Boat Tail models were in reality less than initially estimated.

New York real estate billionaire's $40M mega yacht anchored off Sanibel Island

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

A New York real estate billionaire's sleek mega yacht, the Silver Shalis, was spotted cruising Fort Myers Beach and anchored off Sanibel Island over the holiday weekend.

Built in 2010 by Delta Marine from a ship design by Langan Associates and interior by design house Jonathan Quinn Barnett, the 175-foot, 846-ton craft is owned by real estate tycoon Larry Silverstein .

The vessel, which can sleep 12 guests in six cabins and has a crew of 14 housed in seven cabins, has an annual running cost between between $2 million and $4 million.

The luxury mega yacht, sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands, is valued by specialty yachting web sites at a whopping $40 million.

A yacht tracking website placed the Silver Shalis just off the Sanibel Causeway near the Sanibel Lighthouse on the east end of the island on Monday and early Tuesday. The vessel has been cruising the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic, visiting Fort Lauderdale at one port of call.

Sometimes, when not pressed into service, boats such as the Silver Shalis are rented out for charters. Such excursions cost from $200,000 to $400,000, or more, a week, according to yachtcharterfleet.com.

Silverstein, 90, CEO of Silverstein Properties in New York, has a net worth of $3 billion, also according to superyachtfan.com .

Dara McQuillan, media contact for Silverstein Properties, confirmed the yacht was the CEO's.

"He is visiting the southwest coast of Florida, and loves it there," she said.

A lot has been written about Silverstein.

A 2017 article in the Baltimore Business Journal said his company bought the World Trade Center weeks before the 9/11 terrorist attacks destroyed the twin towers. The company rebuilt the complex that includes the Freedom Tower.

The company's most recent acquisition was a lower Manhattan apartment tower. Silverstein Properties purchased at 116 John St., a converted office tower in the Financial District, for $248 million, according to a company statement.

And on Jan. 10, Silverstein Capital Partners — Silverstein Properties’ real estate lending platform — closed on a $2 billion fund committed by its two existing and three new global institutional investors.

About The Silver Shalis

Powered by twin diesel engines, she comfortably cruises at 12 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 14 knots.

Silver Shalis is built with a aluminum hull and composite superstructure, with teak decks.

Capable of transoceanic crossings, with a maximum speed of 18.5 knots.

Lightweight aluminum hull and composite superstructure seamlessly joined in a striking exterior design.

Built to Lloyds Register Class, one of her head-turning features is a sleek hull of exquisite cerulean blue, the result of a multistep painting process and cast against an off-white superstructure with shimmering metallic silver details.

Inside décor complements the art collection on display throughout her many living and entertainment spaces. ]

On the interior, her decks are served by a silent, glass-enclosed cylindrical elevator with an oil-rubbed bronze metal finish.

A central staircase wraps around the elevator, featuring curved marble wall panels—a remarkable accomplishment, as all panels run vertically in a sequential vein-matched arrangement throughout the length of the stair tower.

The upper deck features an indoor/outdoor dining option for ten via a distinctive curved glass door that opens a full 180 degrees.

Among many features is an extensively outfitted gym on the sun deck with panoramic views of the outside and a lap pool. Source: https://www.deltamarine.com/ , https://www.yachtcharterfleet.com/

David and Victoria Beckham get cozy heading to new $20M yacht with family in Miami

David Beckham and Victoria Beckham enjoyed a glamorous family outing Wednesday aboard a multimillion-dollar mega-yacht in Miami.

The couple — who has a reported combined net worth of $514 million — was photographed riding a dinghy with their four kids , sons Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, and Cruz, 19, and daughter Harper, 12, as well as their daughter-in-law, Nicola Peltz.

They were all dressed casually, with David, 48, and Victoria, 49, strategically shielding themselves from the hot sun under stylish hats as they made their way onto the larger boat.

The massive silver vessel — which is a Riva 130 Bellissima Yacht — measures close to 40 meters and 130 feet, and was built at the company’s La Spezia shipyard in Italy.

It accommodates up to 10 guests in five suites, which is plenty of room for the entire Beckham clan.

Officina Italiana Design worked on the interior, and its features include a beach club, WiFi and air conditioning.

We’re told David and Beckham own the lavish boat which boasts a $20 million price tag and is personalized with the word “Seven” — Harper’s middle name — written across it. The pair previously had a smaller Riva Argo 90 , which cost $6.5 million.

The Beckhams have been spending the majority of their time in Miami since February 2014 when David was offered an opportunity to take part in the Magic City’s MLS team, Inter Miami.

The retired soccer star has since brought legend Lionel Messi on board his team, which further incentivized stars like Kim Kardashian and LeBron James to make it out to games .

Aside from business, David makes sure to enjoy plenty of quality time with Victoria all over Miami.

Nicola Peltz, David Beckahm, Brooklyn Beckham, Harper Beckham, and Cruz Beckham attend Victoria Beckham's Womenswear Fall Winter 2023-2024 show as part of Paris Fashion Week on March 03, 2023 in Paris, France.

Page Six exclusively reported last July that the former Manchester United player and the Spice Girls member dropped more than $2,000 on a date night at the luxe LPM Restaurant and Bar in Brickell.

We were told at the time that the duo and their guests were very gracious toward the waitstaff.

When the Beckhams are not in South Florida, they spend a lot of time in their native UK.

The power couple owns a $40 million Victorian townhouse in London that is located in the ultra-luxurious Holland Park area of Kensington — also known as “Millionaire’s Row.”

The lavish property reportedly features six bedrooms, an indoor pool, a wine cellar, a fashion runway, a gym and an at-home nail salon.

However, it appears David has grown quite fond of his new home in Miami.

He said during an event in 2018, “I could have gone to another city, but this was always my city. It’s always where I wanted to have our team.”

Pandabuy confirms crooks nabbed data on 1.3M punters

Nothing says 'sorry' like 10 percent off shipping for a month.

Ecommerce platform Pandabuy has apologized after two cybercriminals were spotted hawking personal data belonging to 1.3 million of its customers.

A user with the alias Sanggiero originally advertised the data for sale on a cybercrime forum, saying the information spans nearly 3 million rows on a spreadsheet. It allegedly includes user IDs, full names, phone numbers, email addresses, IP addresses, home addresses, and order data.

Pandabuy is a China-based shipping platform that allows customers to purchase goods directly from Chinese vendors, essentially a middleman service with the idea that it saves consumers time and money on the same goods they would otherwise buy at established retailers.

The data stolen from the company was made available for download on March 31 and security experts raced to verify the authenticity of the leak the following day, with Microsoft's Troy Hunt confirming via his HaveIBeenPwned (HIBP) breach database that 1.3 million unique email addresses were compromised.

28 million dollar yacht

Using a snippet of the data posted by Sanggiero, Hunt was able to verify that some of the email addresses included in the leak were genuine, and were stored by Pandabuy. A little more than a third (35 percent) were already in the HIBP database.

"Thanks to a combination of enumeration vector and the presence of Mailinator addresses, it's very clear the user data did indeed come from Pandabuy," Hunt xeeted .

"Made-up email addresses are confirmed as non-existent, whilst addresses in the breach successfully get reset emails."

Within hours, Pandabuy addressed the incident via its official Discord channel in a lengthy statement, fessing up to the data blunder and blaming cybercriminals for bypassing its security controls.

Pandabuy didn't directly address the quantity or nature of the data involved, other than to say that financial information wasn't implicated after analyzing what was leaked, but did label the incident as a "data breach" that was carried out by a "hacker organization."

Neither did Pandabuy detail how the breach was allowed to occur, other than vague references to "system vulnerabilities" being fixed and its systems being thoroughly investigated after detecting the breach, eliminating "all possible hidden dangers."

Customers have been urged to remain vigilant to any misinformation and follow-on attacks following the data breach, and were also assured that their accounts were safe.

As some sort of olive branch, sellers were offered a 10 percent discount on all costs associated with shipping products to buyers, which can be used on an unlimited basis for one month, along with repeated apologies.

Naturally, this cash-for-gaffe offer doesn't appear to have been received very well by the community. The sentiment of users across social media is generally negative and the most-used emoji reaction to the official statement was the middle finger.

Speed saved face

The reaction among customers could have been even worse if instead of providing a quick admission as it did, questionable apology discount aside, Pandabuy continued with its initial approach, which users claim tried to silence discussions related to the breach.

One user alleged Pandabuy's Discord team implemented a blacklist of words to quell discussion of the data breach. If the claims are true, the blacklist was implemented clumsily since it blocked messages that mentioned "breach" from appearing on the Discord channel, but not those that mentioned "breached."

Between the apparent blacklist implementation and the official announcement, Discord admins were also seen trying to deflect from the situation, instructing users not to spread rumors to cause panic.

Pandabuy's Reddit community also allegedly went into a state where moderators had to approve each and every new post, which again appears to be an attempt to stop word of the incident from spreading.

At the time of writing Pandabuy's Reddit page, which has 415,000 members, doesn't host a single discussion thread about the data breach.

What yachting industry insiders have to say about Jeff Bezos' superyacht

  • Jeff Bezos' yacht , which reportedly cost $500 million to build, completed its first year at sea.
  • The superyacht, Koru, was a frequent topic of conversation at the Palm Beach boat show.
  • Here's what industry insiders think about the vessel.

Insider Today

It's been just about a year since Koru, Jeff Bezos ' $500 million megayacht, set sail from the Oceanco shipyard in the Netherlands, capturing the attention of yachting insiders and land dwellers alike.

Even after her first season at sea, the 127-meter ship is still one of the most talked about vessels among those in the know — and not just for the busty figurehead on its prow, which many have wrongly speculated is based on Bezos's fiancée . Koru was a hot topic at the annual Palm Beach International Boat Show, where the yachts of other billionaires were on display for sale or charter.

The overwhelming response from those Business Insider spoke to was awe, with many praising her unique design, commenting on her immense size, or remarking that they'd been lucky enough to see her up close.

"It's absolutely beautiful," said Federico Rossi, the COO of luxury yachtbuilder Rossinavi.

Still, due to the small size of the industry — and the fact that privacy is paramount in the yachting community — even those who complimented Koru mostly did not want to go on record in order to protect professional relationships.

"That thing's amazing," one such superyacht expert told BI. "It's very well done in terms of craftsmanship."

Unlike many other megayachts, Koru, which media billionaire Barry Diller's Eos inspired, is designed as a sailing yacht. That bucks the current trend of more severe-looking explorer boats — though Koru's 75-meter support vessel Abeona is of a more typical style,

"I heard back in 2018 or something that somebody had ordered a classic sailing yacht," the superyacht expert also told BI. "You order 125 meters, that's not really going to be classic. But it is. I think it's pretty cool."

Like most other megayachts, Koru is powered by her engines, which are reportedly innovative in their use of a kinetic energy recovery system. Industry experts, therefore, pointed out that her sails are more for looks than anything else — but that still works in her favor, with many praising her overall aesthetic appeal.

Related stories

"It's stunning," added a captain who has worked on several megayachts. He said he'd seen Koru in St. Barts, a favorite spot of Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez , over the holidays.

"There are definitely uglier boats out there," one yacht architect said. "It's not like it's shaped like his rocket," he jokily added, referring to the phallic design of Blue Origin's New Shephard .

Some, though, think the yacht is a bit excessive — which is saying something in a world where bigger is better and $250 million is a normal amount to spend.

"That's over the top. That's an insanely ridiculous boat," a longtime broker who favors discretion said. It's a "whole big show."

And the expert who praised the yacht's craftsmanship balanced his admiring comments by saying Koru's liberal use of teak — a wood traditionally used for yacht decks — was "bizarre."

The material has gained a bad reputation in the industry in recent years, as it typically comes from Myanmar, a country with a checkered human rights record. Plus, it takes a long time to grow, leading to deforestation.

Many shipyards have now turned to alternatives, like bamboo or plantation-grown teak, in their pushes toward sustainability. Bezos' team did not respond to BI's question about the origin of the deck's wood.

Teak or not, the yachting industry isn't generally known for being all that environmentally friendly — or indeed lowkey, so many who BI talked to didn't buy into the idea that Koru is "too much."

"If this is genuinely Jeff's dream come true, then great," Anders Kurtén, the CEO of brokerage Fraser Yachts, said. "I'm genuinely happy for him, and I'm happy for the people who got the opportunity to have employment to work on that."

And Bezos, of course, isn't the only billionaire with a stunning yacht . Billionaires like Jerry Jones and Bernard Arnault have also, at times, turned heads with their boats.

Most recently, insiders have tied Mark Zuckerberg to a 118-meter ship named Launchpad . It's the latest superyacht to capture the yachting world's attention.

So, as she sets sail for her debut summer season, Launchpad may take Koru's place as the main yacht on everyone's radar this year.

Winning the 2023 Million Dollar Pool Design Challenge was a pinnacle moment in Design Director Brad Holley's unconventional journey into the world of design. Every year, this prestigious nationwide competition attracts talented pool and landscape designers, builders, and outdoor living architects who submit their designs in hopes of being recognized as the best in the industry.

Equipped with a detailed list of design requirements, a 3D model of the existing conditions, and the freedom to ignore budget restrictions, participants create truly breathtaking designs. We interviewed Brad about his design methods, visualization process, and what it took to successfully claim victory in the challenge.

How did you become a pool designer?

Many people come to the pool design industry with architectural or landscape architecture backgrounds. I’m unique in that I have no formal education in design. I was working for a commercial construction company and a client showed us how he had modeled an auto shop in SketchUp. I was blown away that there was a program out there that just let you build whatever your imagination came up with so intuitively in 3D. I started using it for home projects and was googling how to do something in SketchUp when I stumbled upon a job listing that talked about using SketchUp for pool design. The rest is history. I got the job helping out a pool designer — who just happened to be one of the top pool specialists in the country, Randy Angell, Lead Designer and Owner of Randy Angell Design.

“My love of SketchUp is what got me started in the pool design industry.”

What motivated you to enter the design competition?

After working closely with Randy for some years, he encouraged me to enter the Million Dollar Pool Design Challenge . While I had been casually following the challenge from a distance, I never thought I was capable of competing at that level. One year, Randy told me it was time. I didn’t think I was ready to enter the ring with top designers, but I realized I would never know what I could accomplish if I didn’t try.

What year did you enter the competition?

I first participated in the 2022 competition. The challenge that year was to transform a narrow backyard attached to a three-story classic Chicago Brownstone home into an incredible outdoor entertainment and relaxation oasis. It was a difficult task due to the limited space and specific requirements. However, I saw an opportunity to think outside the box and embrace a more vertical design strategy.

Surprisingly, my design perspective differed greatly from other contestants' interpretations of the project. That aspect made the competition even more fascinating — everyone had their unique vision when presented with the same canvas. My approach was the most unconventional.

One of the rules for the competition was that modifying the home was not allowed. Though it was vaguely defined, I respected it because clients often seek innovative outdoor solutions in real-world scenarios without drastically altering their homes. Instead of trying to change anything within the home, I decided to attach structures to it. In my experience as a designer, it's not uncommon to incorporate additions that complement the existing architecture.

I created a multi-level structure that seamlessly matched the home's three stories. The fourth level served as a rooftop gathering area. This structure connected to the home, extending across the yard and overlapping the roof of the detached garage. Each level offered distinct spaces, and the pool was located on the second level.

I was selected for the final part of the competition, which was comprised of five finalists out of approximately 50 contestants. The finalists attended the final judging ceremony in Las Vegas at the Pool Spa Deck Expo.

One of the critiques of my design was I created a giant structure that would require an enormous amount of engineering in the real world, and my design skirted the rules. Although I believed I was following the guidelines, the judges explained that even though I didn't modify the home itself, my design attached to it, which in the real world may require modifications. Despite losing points for this, my design still managed to impress the judges and earn a spot in the top five finalists.

I took the critique constructively and decided to step up my game the following year.

What was the scenario for the 2023 pool challenge?

The 2023 challenge was located in a hypothetical residential community in Miami Beach, Florida. The community consisted of homes with their own docks on the coastal canals. This allowed residents to park their yachts right next to their houses and easily access other ports for weekend trips or shopping. The existing home itself had a sleek and modern design, characterized by clean lines, neutral colors, and natural wood.

When we received the details of the home and surrounding yard for our designs, it was apparent that there wasn’t nearly enough space to accommodate all the features required by the competition. To try and fit all the requirements in, I started placing conceptual masses for different features to plot their placement strategically.

It was challenging. One of the major requirements was a lazy river feature, which typically requires a large amount of space. Along with that, I had to incorporate an outdoor kitchen, entertaining area, fire pit, splash pad, swimming pool, private spa, and various other elements. It became overwhelmingly complicated, and I found myself staring at the model for weeks before coming up with a solution.

What’s your process for visualizing your ideas in 3D?

Every designer has a different process. My mentor Randy has the remarkable ability to visualize a space from multiple perspectives — all in his head. He can create an aerial plan, envision traffic flow, determine furniture placement, and ensure overall design harmony without concrete visuals. That’s not me, I need 3D.

SketchUp helps me bring my vision together. I start with inputting any existing conditions or measurements and then create rough conceptual shapes in 3D.  It reminds me of playing with a pile of Legos like I did as a kid. For me, it becomes more than just work; it's a joyful experience.

“What sets SketchUp apart is its incredible intuitiveness. As someone who struggles with visualizing concepts mentally, SketchUp allows me to explore ideas freely.”

When I design, I ask myself questions: Where can I accommodate the pool? What materials should I use? Are there any additional features like entertainment spaces, cooking stations, outdoor living areas, or shade structures?

These considerations are constantly on my mind as I examine the model. My goal is to optimally place each element, ensuring all elements are cohesive with the greater design narrative. I always integrate new features with the existing architecture, making them appear as though they were intended from the start.

How do you add details to your designs?

The level of detail in my designs varies depending on my progress. Sometimes I start with a rough layout and gradually introduce more intricate elements. Other times, certain areas need immediate attention due to their potential impact on the overall design narrative. If a spot captivates my imagination, I spend more time exploring materials, conceptual plantings, and paint colors.

Once my layout and overall design are set, SketchUp's 3D Warehouse takes center stage. Its vast library of user-generated content is a treasure trove. Whether I’m looking for an exquisite grill or a bespoke chair, someone within the SketchUp community has probably already created it. The unwavering support for others and the incredible talent I see in SketchUp’s users never cease to amaze me.

I also leverage Enscape's extensive library of textures, finishes, conceptual plants, furnishings, people, and accessories to elevate the realism of my designs. These assets seamlessly integrate into SketchUp, enhancing the model without compromising its performance or overwhelming it with unnecessary complexity.

What's the difference between designing for a challenge and designing for the real world?

Budget constraints! Over the past four years, building pools has become more expensive, making them less accessible for the average homeowner — now, pools are a luxury item. Even when you work with wealthier clients, you still have budget limitations. On average, most projects cost between $200,000 and $250,000.

It’s fun to design for the competition because the budget is unlimited. The Miami Vice pool complex I designed would cost approximately $4 to $5 million to build. You have complete creative freedom to come up with the coolest idea imaginable.

What set your design apart from competitors to help you win the challenge?

Every single entry was undeniably outstanding. If there's one aspect that sets mine apart from the rest, it's the fact that it successfully fulfilled the entire wish list within the given space. I learned that I needed to follow the rules exactly from my first competition experience! Initially, it did seem impossible to include everything but I ended up doing it.

Did winning the competition change anything for you?

Besides the cash prize, winning the competition gave me a tremendous confidence boost! I ended up getting a new job as design director at Pure Design . Now, I’m focusing more on pool construction and sales, while before, I focused solely on design work. This new perspective helps me be a better designer, as it exposes me to our market's intricacies.

What are your favorite extensions and modeling tips?

I love Selection Toys by ThomThom. It allows you to easily select multiple lines and faces with just a few clicks. Plus, it has a handy shortcut button that lets you exclusively select faces for maximum efficiency. It's a huge time-saver!

The Random Tools extension is helpful too. If you bring in a plant from a model library and duplicate it to create more plants of that type, they can look very repetitive. With this extension, you can select all of the plants together, hit the randomizer button, and it will randomly change their scale, rotation, and shape by the parameters you specify. Adding this variation in planting saves me from having to do it manually and makes my designs look more realistic.

Will emerging AI technology change anything in the pool design industry?

With the advancements in AI technology, we are on the verge of a revolution in the building industry!  AI has the potential to drastically speed up the creation of photo-realistic deliverables. Already I’m seeing it with products like SketchUp’s Diffusion — I’d love to play more with it to create renderings. I can also see designers using AI to create 3D models in the future. The possibilities are truly exciting.
