Yacht and Beach Club’s Ship Shape Salon – A Pedicure Review

A couple of weeks ago during a stay at Yacht and Beach Club , I looked down and was slightly aghast at the state of my toenail polish. A few days in a sand-bottomed pool can do some damage. I have been to the Senses Spa at Saratoga Springs , and, while the treatment I got there was amazing, upwards of $80 for a pedicure is a little much. I considered Mandara Spa at the Swan & Dolphin , but, again, at prices starting at $65, it was more than I wanted to commit to just being presentable. Just after a great burger at Beaches & Cream , I walked past the Ship Shape Fitness Center and realized there was an extra door there.

As it turns out, Yacht and Beach Club has a lovely little spa and salon right next to the fitness center that offers a wide range of services at much more reasonable prices . My pedicure was listed at $55, which was inclusive of gratuity, but after my Annual Passholder discount, it was just under $50. While that’s more than I normally pay for a pedicure, I was able to get a same-day appointment for less than any other location on property.

At my appointment time I checked in at the desk and waited a few minutes in the pleasant and quiet reception area.

I was then led down a pretty corridor to a relaxation room with comfortable seating and citrus flavored water and fresh fruit.

I was only in the relaxation room for about 5 minutes when a technician came in and greeted me by name. She took me to a treatment room with pedicure chairs the same as those at the Senses spas. The chairs have some pretty impressive massage functions or can be left silent if you prefer.

My pedicure lasted about 45 minutes and was a standard process with nail shaping, leg massage, and polish application. It was done by Christine, a great technician who told me that Disney rotates all their technicians among its salons, so the services are very similar if not the same. And while you don’t have exactly the experience you’ll get at the bigger spas, for my money this pedicure was great and really convenient. It was a very nice experience, and I had a really enjoyable conversation with my technician while she worked. I give it two well-polished thumbs up. Walt Disney World is a wonderful place to go to have fun, but it is also a great place to relax. Several of the Walt Disney World resorts have full-service spas or health club/spa combinations to give its guests the opportunity to unwind and relax.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Disney’s animal kingdom villas, disney’s boardwalk resort, disney’s contemporary resort, disney’s coronado springs resort, disney’s grand floridian resort & spa, disney’s old key west, disney’s saratoga springs resort & spa, disney’s wilderness lodge resort, disney’s yacht club and beach club resorts, walt disney world dolphin hotel.

Some tips to keep in mind:

Zahanati Massage & Fitness Center offers equipment for both cardiovascular and strength training.  A sauna and a steam room are available during hours when an attendant is present.  Facials and massages are available by appointment for a fee.

In addition, hand and foot treatments at the Zahanati Massage & Fitness Center, located at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Senses – A Disney Spa at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort  offers services for total relaxation while also offering a fitness center with equipment for cardiovascular and strength training.  Senses – A Disney Spa offers a full-service spa with offerings aimed at relaxation and helping you to feel and look your best.  While spa treatments are subject to change, Senses – A Disney Spa currently offers the following:

Mandara Spa is a full-service spa and salon that offers massages, hairstyling, and treatments for the body.  This Balinese-themed spa experience begins with the Meditation Garden containing a mystical Meru Temple.  Then, the guest wanders through the Tea Garden to sip refreshments. The Spas, Salons, Health Clubs, and Fitness Clubs at Walt Disney World Resorts are operated by Disney, with the exception of The Mandara Spa at the Walt Disney World Dolphin. In addition to two full-service spas, there are a number of fitness centers and salons located Walt Disney World’s Deluxe and Moderate Resorts.

Spa Services

Spa Services can be reserved at two Senses spas . One is located at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa; the other is located at Saratoga Springs Resort. Coronado Springs has a spa in its La Vida Health Center . Animal Kingdom Lodge has the Zahanati Health and Fitness Center . A fifth spa at the Dolphin is called The Mandara Spa and is operated by Steiner Spa.

Note: the purchase of a spa treatment includes use of the adjacent fitness center for the day of treatment.

Spa services generally include massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, body treatments; children’s services; and couples’ services. Spa hours are generally 8AM to 7PM, by appointment. Call  (407) WDW-SPAS for an appointment. Call (407) 934-4772 for The Mandara Spa.

Note that gratuities are included in the price of spa services. Additional gratuities are at the discretion of guests.

Age Requirements for Spa Services

Spa services do have some age requirements .

• For guests ages 4-12, some select treatments are designed as an introduction to a healthy lifestyle.
• For guests ages 12 and older, all spa offerings are available.
• Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult while in the spa and during massage, water, and body treatments.

Gift Certificates for Spa Services

Guests can purchase gift certificates at the spas’ reception desks or by calling (407) 824-2332.

Spa Cancellation Policy

Guests must cancel spa services within six hours of their appointments, or they’ll be charged the full amount for the missed service.

Salon Services

Salon services generally include: hair cuts, coloring, and up-dos. Men’s services include haircuts and trims. Children’s services are also available. Manicures, pedicures, and hair services are available at all salons. Salon hours are generally 9AM to 6PM daily. Appointments are recommended and can be made by calling (407) WDW-GLAM.

Salons can be found at the Grand Floridian’s Senses Spa and Salon, Ship Shape Salon at the Yacht Club, La Vida Salon at Coronado Springs, Salon by the Springs at Wilderness Lodge,  and the Dolphin’s Mandara Spa.

Hair services are priced as such (as of 2/2020):

• Lady’s haircut and blow-dry: $80 (short); $100 (long)
• Gentleman’s haircut with shampoo and style: $35
• Gentleman’s haircut and style: $25
• Beard/mustache trim: $15
• Child’s haircut: $20
• Bang trim: $15
• Shampoo, blow-dry and style: $55
• Express style (i.e. simple braids): $25
• Blow out: $45
• Hair chemical services: $90 and up based on consultation
• Haircut with chemical service: $45
• Special occasion/bridal hair and makeup packages: call for pricing

Character Couture

Character Couture is a service provided for guests of all ages who wish to “express [their] individual style” and receive styling and makeovers inspired by Disney characters. Pricing as of 2/2020 is:

• Hairstyling: $75 ($60 for Guests 12 years and under)
• Makeup: $50 ($40 for Guests 12 years and under)
• Nails (add on): $20 ($15 for Guests 12 years and under)
• In-Room Services: Additional fee of $25 per reservation

Fitness Centers

Fitness Centers feature a full line of state-of-the-art exercise equipment and free weights. Personal training is available in each fitness center. Usage is available at no additional charge for resort guests 14 and over. Those 14-17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Personal Training is available upon request, 24-hour notice required.

Fitness Centers are accessible 24 hours a day to resort guests who will scan their MagicBands to gain access.

Yacht Club Resort

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is a Deluxe Resort with stunning views, popular dining, and a fan-favorite swimming pool that guests can’t get enough of. Yacht Club is also located right next to Disney’s Beach Club Resort, which is accessible just by walking.

Located in the Epcot Resort Area, Yacht Club isn’t just within walking distance of the Beach Club, but Epcot itself. There is a path that leads directly to the International Gateway. What’s better than that?

It’s definitely a pricier resort, but for good reason. Based on location, sharing several amenities with Beach Club, just a boat ride away from Hollywood Studios, access to the Skyliner at Epcot, and much more, Yacht Club has a lot to offer. 

Plus, the New England-style resort sits on the water and truly is a gorgeous resort right on property. Here’s everything you need to know.

Rooms And Bathrooms

Yacht Club offers a variety of rooms that can sleep up to 6 people, depending on the type of room you book.

Each rooms offers your standard amenities, like a hairdryer, TV, free WiFi, a coffee maker, telephone, in-room safe, iron and ironing board, and a mini-refrigerator. Plus, there’s a range of views, including a view of the water, pool, garden, woods, rooftop, or parking area.

There’s even a selection of rooms that feature Club Level Service , which we go over in more detail below.

And, don’t worry, there are plenty of outlets and USB ports for charging all of your devices. Better yet, there’s plenty of storage for your belongings, including space under the bed, drawers, and closet space. 

The bathrooms have storage underneath the sink and vanity area, as well, which is also separate from the shower and toilet area.

Pet-Friendly Policy

Yacht Club is pet-friendly , but there are certain conditions that must be met. First, there’s a limit of 2 dogs per room. In order to bring your dog with you, you’ll need to call (407) 939-7539.

There’ also a day and overnight kennel care at  Best Friends Pet Care  located on property.

Checking In And Out

When it comes to checking in and out, you have a few options: at the front desk, online through the official Walt Disney World website, or via the My Disney Experience app.

The front desk is located in the lobby of the main building. Even though the front desk is there to assist guests, especially with checking in and checking out, all Disney World Resort guests are encouraged to check-in online  or by using MDE.

• Checking-In : After you check-in online or using the app, you’ll receive a room-ready notification via next. You can then use your MagicBand or MDE’s digital key feature to  unlock your room door .
• Checking-Out : Currently, guests will automatically be checked out of their rooms. But, if you have unresolved charges to your hotel folio, you’ll need to visit the front desk.

Note: Guests also have the option of to chat virtually with resort Cast Members via MDE for any assistance. 

The lobby is a nice size, with plenty of seating. Ale & Compass Restaurant and Ale & Compass Lounge are nearby, along with the Crew’s Cup Lounge . 

Magical Express pickup and the bus stop are also right outside the main lobby, along with  luggage storage  for those who have checked out or are waiting to check in.

Note: Resort Airline Check-In is no longer available.

Parking is available at Yacht Club. There is a standard $25 overnight self-parking fee  (including tax) that is applied to guests’ hotel folio upon check-out.

Valet parking is also available for $33 per night.

Complimentary standard self-parking is available for non-resort guests exploring dining, shopping, entertainment, and other experiences during the day.

Amenities And Shops

From gift shops, to on-site laundry services, to spa and fitness, there are several amenities offered to guests at Yacht Club.

Important note: Some of the following amenities might not be available at all times.

• Beach Club Marketplace Gifts : An all-purpose shop with souvenirs, apparel, grab ‘n’ go food items, beverages, and more.
• Marketplace at Ale & Compass : Find everyday essentials, souvenirs, beverages, and snacks.
• Laundry Services : There are 24-hour  self-service laundry facilities available near Admiral Pool.
• Dry Cleaning Services : Dry cleaning and valet laundry services are also an option.
• Movies Under the Stars : Watch complimentary Disney movies in the Solarium or on the lawn outdoors near the volleyball courts.
• Ship Shape Massage Salon Fitness : Full-service exercise facility with fitness equipment and spa offerings.
• Childcare Services :  In-room babysitting  for children 6 months to 12 years old.

Pools And Recreation

Yacht Club has one main feature pool and two leisure pools. If you need a non-park day, we recommended spending the day at your hotel and enjoying a Disney Resort pool .

Important note: Some of the pools and recreation options might not be available at all times.

Feature Pool

• Stormalong Bay : A sand-bottomed pool with a lazy river that also has a life-size shipwreck replica. It has one of the highest hotel waterslides. There’s pool covers three acres. Guests can also enjoy the pool bar and grill, Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill.

Leisure Pools

• Yacht Club : The Admiral Pool is located in the garden area near the tennis court. Located in the garden are
• Beach Club : The Tidal Pool is in the garden area near the volleyball court. 
• Beach Club Villas : Yacht Club guests are allowed to use the Beach Club Villas’ leisure pool, the Dunes Cove Pool.

All of the leisure pools also have steaming whirlpool spas. Guests can also rent pool cabanas , which are exclusively for Yacht and Beach Club guests.

Some other recreational options include:

• Lafferty Place (arcade games)
• Motorized Boat Rentals
• Jogging Trails
• Campfire to roast marshmallows

There are also specialties for an additional price, including:

• Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf : Two 18-hole miniature golf courses inspired by Fantasia .
• Pirate Adventure Cruise : For those 4 to 12 years-old. The pirate adventure follows clues to discover hidden treasures.

How to get from Yacht Club to anywhere at Disney World

You can choose from several forms of complimentary Disney transportation at Yacht Club, including buses (takes you to all the parks and Disney Springs), the Disney Skyliner at the International Gateway (walk the Epcot path), and a boat to Hollywood Studios (you can also take a 20-minute walk here). 

The bus stop is right outside the main entrance. All of the different ways to get from Yacht Club to anywhere in Disney World is detailed below.

Dining options at Yacht Club

Yacht Club has a variety of dining options. You can find Quick Service and Table Service options, along with lounges and the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop, which is a popular place to snag some delicious ice cream. The Market at Ale & Compass does offer Mobile Order. 

Beaches & Cream Soda Shop and Ale & Compass Restaurant also offer Mobile Dine Check-In, meaning you’ll check-in using the My Disney Experience app rather than going to the host stand. When your table is ready, you’ll be notified to proceed to a specific location.

Ale & Compass Restaurant also has Table Service To Go , which allows guests to Mobile Order and take their meal back to their room. You can read more about the dining options below.

#2. Stormalong Bay 

Attendees can make a splash in this expansive, 3-acre sand-bottomed pool. From atop the mast of a life-sized shipwreck replica, they can zip down a 230-foot-long waterslide, one of the highest hotel slides at Walt Disney World Resort. Or, they can float down the lazy river on an inner tube, unwind in one of 3 whirlpool spas, or simply relax on the elevated tanning deck.

#3. Ship Shape Massage Salon Fitness

Use of the newly-refurbished Ship Shape Massage Salon Fitness is convenient and complimentary for attendees staying at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, making it easier than ever for attendees to keep up their workout routine while traveling for business. Salon and spa services are also offered at this location, including massages, facials, haircuts, nail services, and more. #4. The Market at Ale & Compass

If your attendees are seeking a grab-and-go snacks to bring back to their hotel room, The Market at Ale & Compass is the perfect treasure trove of treats. Once inside, attendees will find fresh-baked pastries, sandwiches, adult beverages and picnic-worthy bites like shrimp cocktail, crudité and hummus cups—along with magical Disney merchandise. This quick service option is open from 6 am to 11:30 pm, perfect for satisfying any early-morning appetites or late-night cravings. 

#5. Convenient Theme Park Access

Attendees can walk or take a boat  from Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts to the International Gateway Entrance at Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The open pontoon stage was constructed in order to facilitate the bridal entrance on water, although there were concerns about safety as the last thing we wanted was probably a drowned bride before she could get on stage, picture that! I have to say on that day it wasn’t easy to get on the pontoon stage from the boat, in my long gown and high heels. Luckily my bridesmaids still noticed even though they stood the furthest from me on the stage, and helped me out without prior rehearsal. All the decor excluding the bride’s bouquet was made by a team of ten friends of the bride and groom. And it was charming – a light and beautiful arch, eco-style polygraphy and succulents, candy-bar with caramel apples and berries – sweet joys of summer. At the end of ceremony the guests tossed up white handkerchiefs embroidered by Natalia’s own hands. The most touching moment was the happy eyes of the groom’s grandmother, the most estimable person on the wedding. And the fireworks were a bright end to that beautiful day. Later, when we had chosen a green meadow and an uncovered pavilion overlooking a lake as the project site, it only highlighted a light summer mood with colorful florals and a great number of natural woods.
