Had my wedding at Mallard Island September 2018 and it was so perfect. Danielle is amazing and so helpful through the whole wedding planning process. She answered my numerous emails with questions during planning and was so nice and honest. The grounds at mallard are absolutely amazing and the bridal suite is from a dream. It was so sad leaving the morning after our wedding. The food by Taste Catering was amazing. The surf and turf was cooked perfectly and all of our guests raved about how delicious their meals were. If you're looking for an amazing venue for an upscale beach wedding, definitely give Mallard a look. It was worth every penny!

I'd give zero stars if I could. Wedding started over a half hour late. Then an hour cocktail hour. No one telling you where to go or the many offerings throughout the venue. Chained to my table from 7:00 when dinner service started. At 9:30 we were FINALLY served dinner, and it was cold. I sent it back (hell you made me wait 2.5 hours, I want hot food. My plate came back extremely hot...too bad the food was barely room temp. Dancing in between courses is awful. Serve dinner to all within 45 minutes (soup to nuts-yes, I did it at a high end country club for 15 years) and free guests from their tables. And, for the price, your servers (and what was the deal with the server with the giant bag at her hip?) should know "serve from the left; remove from the right." It was pretty, but that's where the good ended. Waste of money.

These people are crooks, planned a wedding for 2021. We were told to get insurance for wedding and couldn't get cover for covid, we canceled the wedding 5 months out, they kept my $22 thousand dollar deposit. Stay far away from these people crooks.

This place is heaven on earth Went to a wedding here The moon, the sunset, the apps were so good This is the most perfect venue for a wedding I think for any season! Wish I got married here But please if you are going to have a wedding do not get that cheap verde champagine that taste like sugar water. Thank god the bartender found me some real bubbly This venue is the best 360 views and it has it all, romantic picture perfect.

Hands down, one of the best places for wedding , the venue & space are exceptional. It was this past Sat , in windy Cold rain, this palce did NOT disappoint. WE were greeted with hot apple cider & Wamr hot cocoa, with marshmallows. Excellent!!! The spread they had was nothing short of remarkable!! FRom seafood platter, to Some of the freshest Fruit , & servers were Still walking around with crab cake sliders & etc, awesome!! The ceremony was out near the pier, on a sunny day would have been beautiful, but even with wind gusts & rain, it was still Gorgeous wedding !!! If there were people considering to use this place-I would , they were great!!!!

Great wedding space and staff. Had a blast the entire weekend. The wedding suite upstairs is the best I have ever seen and has 5 other rooms for the wedding party. The happy couple was able to dock the entire time they were staying over and had everything taken care of. One of the best weddings I've ever attended.

mallard island yacht club about

Beautiful venue for weddings located on the bay just before you go over the bridge to long beach island. Just a tip: you do not have to go over the bridge. There are a couple jug handles and turn offs you can manage before you hit the crazy bridge traffic. The venue has 4 floors. The whole upper floor is dedicated to the bridal sweet. Its beautiful. Definitely great for the pre-wedding pictures. The 3rd floor is for groomsmen and guests of your choosing. 10 rooms total. All the rooms are so beautiful and much better than a hotel. Feels like home. The showers are hugeeee and have multiple heads and benches. They offer a variety of shampoos and conditioners. No fridges in rooms but then again I guess this isnt a hotel. TVs are small but nobody watches TV during a wedding weekend. Bed was so comfy. The 2nd floor is the reception area. Huge room with a ballroom. The ballroom has a deck and windows that are mechanically pulled back for when it cools down outside. The 1st floor is the reception area and impressive as well. The outside has multiple areas. One including a firepit/lawn, very small beach area, an enclosed gazebo pier where the wedding takes place. Fit about 200 people. There is also another pier that goes much further out with a bench at the end of it. For the groomsmen there is a groomshack that is built like a man-cave. Small but cute. One of the best venues I have been too. Not too big and not too small and very impressive. Really only few issues as some of the outlets did not work. Also there is no black out shades on the windows. Not sure if this is a tactic to get you the heck out of there but it definitely works. The air conditioner was also noisy. It did not even work in one of the room. They did have an extra air conditioner to provide but still unfortunate.

Stunning venue for a wedding... Gem of the Jerz Shore. What an estate, great food, service and grounds. I mean a steak and cheese station... yeah.. I was lucky to be invited to stay the night the the party and made for such a great time as the mansion is great place for everyone to celebrate and hang out after. The groom shack was the perfect place to hang out before the ceremony...

MALLARD ISLAND YACHT CLUB WEDDINGS

A venue i work at often, mallard island weddings.

WITH A PRIVATE BEACH AND LUXURY FEEL

If you are looking to get married at the Jersey Shore and want to take advantage of all the Long Beach Island area has to offer, look no further. I live a few minutes away and photograph weddings here often.  Scroll for a complete tour, what you expect on your wedding day and endless photos from real weddings held at Mallard Island Yacht Club.

GET TO KNOW LEANNA

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding with in October165

Mallard Island Yacht Club is located at 1450 NJ-72, Manahawkin, NJ 08050 near Dorland J Henderson Memorial Bridge, commonly called the Causeway,  to Long Beach Island . As a lifelong resident of the area, I live a few minutes drive from the venue and photograph many weddings here each year. You will arrive and immediately be greeted by the famous red roof and the grand architecture of the building. Even from the parking lot, you have beautiful water views of Barnegat Bay. As you approach the back of the building you are greeted by amazing views, a lush garden, a private beach, an expansive dock, views of the bridge and so much more. The landscaping changes with the seasons and never disappoints. Tucked away you will find the popular shack, once an army barracks then a clam shack until being fully restored. This photo gallery will show you the grounds through every season and type of weather. My goal for this page is for you to get a true sense of what your wedding day can look like under all conditions.

TOUR THE OUTDOOR SPACE

Mallard island exceeds your expectations, there is something for everyone. .

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding April Landscape12

Mallard Island Yacht Club is not like any other venue in New Jersey. This venue has soft and relaxed water views that made you fall in love with the Jersey Shore mixed with luxury and elegance throughout to building. You enter from the parking lot into the downstairs cocktail and after-hours party space, also known as the marina level, or through the front doors up the grand staircase and directly into the reception room. This photo tour will take you through a tour of both the third and fourth floors so you can see the 10 private guest rooms and the impressive 3000 square foot luxury couples penthouse with an ensuite salon. Each private room has its own bathroom and closet space. Some of the rooms have a small balcony that opens over the dance floor in the reception room if desired.

SEE THE 10 PRIVATE ROOMS

We all know the impressive suite, take a glance at the rooms your guetss will stay in..

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding November3

The time you are allowed to enter the venue will change if there was an event the evening before. This will be different for each couple. It is common for some to start wedding day prep of hair and makeup if needed off-site and do the final touches in the salon on premises. Another option is to do all of the prep in the salon if your hair and makeup team can accommodate it. While you are prepping I will start in the couples' penthouse and capture all of the day's important details rings, gown or attire, full invitation suite, accessories, etc. My team and I will come back and forth between the details and where all the prep is happening to capture the full story of your day. Often times part of the wedding party will choose to get ready in the shack, enjoy the outdoors, play some cornhole and soak in the views. While you and your loved ones are relaxing your vendor teams and the staff of Merrimakers will be completing all of the necessary details to bring the wedding you have spent months planning into a reality. Once the pampering is done we head up to the penthouse to step into your wedding attire. Some people like to do a first look with their father, mother or the wedding party. To keep logistics simple we usually do this in the penthouse and have them come to you.  Your personal attendant the day of you event will be a huge asset into helping up coordinate this and many other events.

GETTING READY

Mallard island provides options for each style, let me show you what most couples choose. .

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding in September16

The majority of couples choose to do a first look. They choose this so they can get all of the formalities done and truly enjoy their day and be part of the cocktail hour. You can choose any spot at Mallard Island Yacht club for your first look and you won't be disappointed. Months before your event we will work together to create a full timeline in 15-minute increments of your day. The first look location is left as TBD so that we can plan when I arrive based on the weather. We will account for the temperature, the sun, rain, and wind and make the best decision. I make sure to give you space and a few quiet moments before the hustle and whirlwind of your day begin. This is also a great opportunity to read some private vows if you choose. From the first look, we move directly into your wedding portraits.

FIRST LOOK

At mallard most choose the dock, when the weather allows us to take advantage. .

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding in rain44

Depending on the weather, time, and season I will show you all the great spots for your photos!  There are so many amazing locations for portraits on the property.  I like to move quickly and efficiently and utilize locations that work for your time of day make sure we will tour all of the grounds. When at their sister location, Bonnet, I have a very specific pattern I follow every time because the light is more consistent there. Portraits at Mallard Island do require a seasoned professional to show you where to jump around to and why. There are endless beautiful spots but I can show you what locations really shine and are optimal at different parts of the day. Through the different seasons, the light creates a variety of looks and options combined with the natural landscape to complement the season of your wedding. We will use each and every location Mallard has to offer but the specifics details of when will vary based on the exact weather on your wedding day. Use this photo gallery to see what portraits will look like through every type of weather and season. While many photographers believe in only showcasing the top 5% of their work that is not my philosophy. My goal is, to be honest, and upfront and show you all of the different and varied options for what your wedding photos will look like through every possible time of day, season and weather.  The description I gave above may seem vague and general but it is filled with truth.  Let me be your guide on this, you hired an expert so let me show you what will be best.

LOCATIONS FOR YOUR PORTRAITS

For your mallard island yacht club wedding, trust me to be your guide and show you the perfect spots..

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding November37

One beautiful thing about the location of Mallard Island Yacht Club is that we truly always have options. The position of the building and the sanctuary with arches inspired by Rathskeller’s Gothic Architecture and Princeton University along with the covered walkway to the Boathouse Chapel and covered upper-level verandas allow for many places to block both the wind and rain if needed. One of the most frequently asked questions from my couples is always about the weather. The answer is that we can't truly make a plan until the hourly forecast comes out that morning.  Dealing with the weather is one important reason that you want to hire a wedding photographer that is local and truly knows how to handle island weather.  From full sun to west winds to hurricane season and flooding you want someone who knows what to do in these situations. The positive about Long Beach Island weather is that it's often changing and moving. It's extremely rare we get a day that is all rain, every hour.  Often there are breaks in the rain and chances for us to change up the schedule and make do! Certain times of the year west winds can bring some troubles but hiring an experienced vendor who knows the best workarounds will save your wedding photos.  If it does rain on your wedding day we will work together to revise the schedule and know that we will need to make quick and efficient decisions all day to utilize the grounds as mother nature allows.  We will also do the majority of your photos in the ceremony space and around the grounds of the estate itself. This photo gallery shows weddings that had different levels of undesirable weather from overcast skies to rain.  Some had periods of blue skies and outstanding sunsets also so rain does not mean all hope is lost.  Overcast skies make beautiful soft and filtered light. We will also do the majority of your photos in the ceremony space and around the grounds of the estate itself.

THEY SAY RAIN IS GOOD LUCK

One of these weddings was shot in a hurricane, and the images are still stellar.

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding in rain180

Previously I mentioned the timeline we customize for your wedding day. Months prior to your wedding planning, we have created a timeline to tell the people involved when to be ready and to meet us in the Boathouse chapel for portraits, this is always the designated meeting place for many reasons. Depending on the weather of the day and the size of your wedding party we will begin with group portraits. We will either use inside the chapel or outdoors if there is some cloud cover so we can avoid the harsh sun causing everyone to squint. We will use the many locations from the chapel, dock, back of the building, sanctuary arches, garden private beach and more. This gallery shows a variety of locations with different party sizes through different seasons and weather.

Your parties size is the leading factor in location

I work mallard weddings often and know what to do.

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding in September50

PORTRAITS OF WEDDING PARTY

You put the time, energy, and creativity into decorating your ceremony space so I like to utilize it. When we choose this elderly family members can have places to sit where they do not have to move around often. Sometimes we do use other locations as you can see in the photo gallery. Sometimes couples want extended family portraits those guests are not available during this time. I do not advise we use the cocktail hour for those extended family photos. It is very hard to locate everyone and you waste the majority of your cocktail hour standing around and waiting. For extended family photos, I suggest having the DJ announce and doing them during your reception on the dance floor during course servings or on the covered veranda when the weather allows. If your family is organized and follows directions well we can also use the time you are hidden away. We finalize all of this long in advance when we create your custom timeline.

YOUR FAMILY PHOTOS

We think of your entire family, and make sure to accommodate everyone's needs..

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding August46

Merrimaker s has rules about our timeline and they are created for good reasons. Their team is experienced in luxury weddings and knows how to keep everything running smoothly. I work with them year-round and know and understand all of the timeline regulations they have in place. My valued and lengthy relationship with them creates a seamless flow in all of our weddings. Mallard wants you to be hidden 30 minutes before the ceremony as guests arrive and 45 minutes before if you have the full 250 maximum on your guest list. We build this into your timeline. This time allows you to freshen up, sign the marriage certificate, put your flowers in water again (especially if you have popular hydrangea in your bouquet, they wilt more quickly than other florals out of water), and allow us to complete any family formal photos we may have missed due to attendance. Sometimes family runs late and this time can be utilized to capture other group photos you wanted. This is a vital time on your wedding day. You won't realize it till it arrives but this moment to pause and take a breath is truly important.

HIDDEN AWAY

Your guests are beginning to arrive, take this moment to yourself .

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding in rain100

This is the moment you have spent months or years putting together. You and your partner are about to say I do. As you walk down the aisle or wait for the one you love try to pause and soak it all in. Everyone you love is under one roof. This is a monumental moment in your journey as a couple. The staff of Merrimakers Catering is behind the scene creating gourmet food for your affair, your photographers are here capturing all the big and small moments and everything is falling into place. You can choose a family member, friend, government official, priest or minister to perform your commitment ceremony. This gallery of pictures shows ceremonies from all different times of day and seasons to give you a true feeling of what you can expect on your wedding day as well as ideas for decor possibilities.

FEEL THE BREEZE OFF THE BAY

It is time to make the ultimate commitment..

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding with in October190

You have promised forever to your love and the staff at Mallard Island will create a quiet space so you can sit with your spouse, have a little privacy and sample one of everything from your cocktail hour menu. I know you are excited to celebrate with your guests but with all the talking and congratulations about to come your way this private time is the only time you will get to eat. Mallard Island cocktail hour does not disappoint.  The weather decides how much of this part of your special day is in the garden, the sanctuary arches or inside the marina level, the food and drinks will always be phenomenal and delicious. Use the slide show to see what your signature drinks and menu options look like to envision your full guest experience! While you and your guests are enjoying my team and I are behind the scenes coordinating with your entertainment and venue while making sure we capture all the beautiful details of the reception you planned.

COCKTAIL HOUR

The pressure is off and it's time to enjoy , the gourmet experience you expect.

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding July78

Upon your grand entrance to your reception, the time of year and weather will dictate the exact look. In the spring and summer, you can count on some natural light coming in through the windows and fall will mean you walk into a beautiful glowing light from the sun or your candles under the famous Tiffany blue ceilings . Your guests will gather around the dance floor and open-air veranda weather permitting while you make you have your formal dances. Guests will enjoy an open bar, fresh saltwater air, and one of the best meals of their lives. The speeches and cake cutting will take place at times you coordinate with the staff and your entertainment long before the wedding day. Each detail will be ironed out in advance and executed to perfection by Merrimakers. The dancing photos you see here illuminated  in vibrant light are an added feature by This Is It Entertainment.  This simple step elevates your reception with a touch that cant necessarily but quantified  in words but felt in experience.

LET’S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!

Eat, drink and be married. .

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding with in October201

The sun sets across 72, not behind the venue over the water as most people think. As an experienced professional at Mallard, I will help you decide the best spot for your sunset portraits. As a local, I am very familiar with how cloud patterns and coverage create different levels of color for sunset and the timing involved. It’s a science, and a little bit of luck, to learn and apply but it is one of my specialties. Different times of the year also tend to produce different results. While we can’t truly make the perfect plan till right before your cocktail hour I work closely with your venue team to make a plan to try and get you the best portraits. There are many factors that decide if this is before, during or after the actual sunset time. If sunset portraits are important to you, hiring a local that knows the patterns and locations for Mallard is imperative. We will also make a plan to create beautiful nighttime portraits and use the fire pit in the garden when possible. Use the slideshow here to view the array of possibilities for your Mallard Island sunset photos. You can find the exact time of sunset for your wedding date here.

SUNSET AND NIGHT PHOTOS

Even if the colors don"t carry over the bay, i will show you my secrets to get that golden glow. .

FAVORITE SPOTS

They may be unexpected,  but these two areas have my heart. .

I know it’s nearly impossible to choose a favorite but when couples ask there are always two little spots that come to mind and they aren’t what you expect. While Mallard has grand views and exquisite architecture at every turn for some reason my favorite spot is always this little pathway leading into the garden and the one specific spot the sun always glows in the garden. All of the other locations are beautiful and worthy but no matter the weather these two simple spots are the places I always make sure we don’t miss.

A quick search of Long Beach Island hotels will give you many options. I understand that sometimes we want to skip google and have someone who knows the area give you directions. My suggestions will vary based on the time of year you are getting married. If you are getting married in July or August traffic will be heavy and accommodations harder to find so it’s best you get your guests’ options as early as possible. Since COVID the chowder fest in October has changed but it may go back to its original form. That first weekend in October can also be difficult for guests to find accommodations so notify them early also!

BWE Venue Spotlight | Mallard Island Yacht Club

Bwe venue spotlight.

August 6, 2020

Mallard Island Yacht Club is often mentioned as one of the most sought-after venues near Long Beach Island. Don’t be fooled by the address, Manahawkin, is the town just before you go over the bridge. And while Mallard Island Yacht Club might not technically be on the island, it might be even better. With stunning views of Barnegat Bay. The unique setup has a two story dance floor with glass walls and outdoor space for cocktail, as well as a boat house chapel to make all your wedding day dreams come true. And it certainly does live up to the hype! It is one of my favorite Long Beach Island venues. It provides a stunning view, incredible views, and a beautiful backdrop that many brides simply swoon over.

The Mallard Island Yacht Club Investment

Choosing Mallard Island Yacht Club for your wedding day requires a large investment, but it’s well worth it. The Yacht Club has what is called a site fee. If you are new to shopping for wedding venues, this means that you are paying a fee to use, or rent, the venue for a specific period of time to host your event. This is in addition to what you will spend on food and in some cases, additional rentals. The site fee is different depending on both the day of the week and the time of year. Most expensive days will be prime wedding season and Saturdays.

Mallard Island Yacht Club offers two options for renting, the first allows couples to rent the entire yacht club for 24-hours and will accommodate 24 guests staying on the property.  The second option is for renting the estate for 5 hours. This will allow you to have your ceremony and reception their, without using the Yacht Club for guest accommodations. For the 5 hour site rental, couples are limited to a Friday or Sunday wedding. Saturday weddings dates are reserved for those couples wishing to rent the entire property.

Mallard receptions can, technically, host up to 250 guests. But my suggestion is that you try to limit your guest count to 225 for comfort.

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding Inspiration

I recently did a photoshoot for Bay Magazine featuring Mallard Island Yacht Club. I’d love to know what you think. BWE got to work with a number of experienced wedding professionals to showcase Mallard Island Yacht Club in a unique way.  You can see the entire recap here. But a few of my favorites are below.

Your Guide To A Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding

May 17, 2023.

Your Guide To A Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding | New Jersey Wedding Venue

If you’re newly engaged and are looking for a New Jersey wedding venue that offers luxe amenities and stunning water views, then Mallard Island Yacht Club may just be what you’re looking for. While I am a Philadelphia wedding photographer, I frequently shoot weddings in New Jersey. The Mallard Island Yacht Club is one of my favorite New Jersey wedding venues and one that I highly recommend couples check out. So, if you’re thinking about having a wedding at this gorgeous venue, here is your guide to a Mallard Island Yacht Club wedding.

Mallard Island Yacht Club | Manahawkin, New Jersey

mallard island yacht club about

The Mallard Island Yacht Club is a gorgeous New Jersey wedding venue in Manahawkin, New Jersey. A wedding venue that overlooks the Barnegat Bay, and gives you panoramic water views. It provides couples with an elegant, sophisticated, and nautical aesthetic which is perfect for those coastal vibes that many couples go for.

At this New Jersey wedding venue, you will find a plethora of event site options. One is their luxe Boathouse Chapel which gives couples tons of natural light and a place to say “I do” in front of their grand stone hearth. Inside their Grand Ballroom, you will find a Tiffany Blue painted ceiling and crystal clear chandeliers hanging from above. The epitome of elegance and sophistication and a key feature of this stunning New Jersey wedding venue.

Benefits Of Having A Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding

mallard island yacht club about

There are many reasons why couples choose to have their special day at the Mallard Island Yacht Club. However, rather than going on for years about it, here are three reasons why you may choose to have a wedding at this New Jersey wedding venue.

Indoor & Outdoor Event Site Options

A huge benefit of having a Mallard Island Yacht Club wedding is that they have both indoor and outdoor event site options. Couples have the option to tie the knot in the Boathouse Chapel or on their perfectly manicured lawn. This is especially nice for couples who worry about Mother Nature raining on their parade (lol, get it?). It’s always nice to have a Plan B and with a wedding venue that offers a wide variety of event sites, this is a major plus in choosing to get married at this New Jersey wedding venue.

All-Inclusive Venue

Another reason why couples choose to tie the knot here is because it is an all-inclusive wedding venue. This New Jersey wedding venue offers everything from on-site catering services, event planning, and rentals, to overnight accommodations. This in and of itself makes it a key competitor to other wedding venues in the area and a first choice for many couples looking to take a lot of stress away from wedding planning.

Amenities For Your Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding

Your Guide To A Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding | New Jersey Wedding Venue

The Mallard Island Yacht Club is known for its luxurious and top-quality amenities and service that they offer their couples. Knowing what amenities your wedding venue offers will be a major make or break for some couples. Luckily, however, the Mallard Island Yacht Club provides some of the best of the best. Some amenities included in their wedding packages are:

  • Indoor & Outdoor Event Spaces
  • On-Site Getting Ready Suites
  • Table, Chair, Flatware, Linen, and Glassware Included
  • Cleanup Services provided
  • Event Planning
  • ADA Accessibility
  • On-Site Parking

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding Cost

mallard island yacht club about

If we’re being honest, your budget and the cost of your venue will also factor in whether or not you’re having a Mallard Island Yacht Club wedding. There are two determining factors when it comes to how wedding venues charge for the use of their venue. One is how many guests and two is what time of year/season you book your wedding. In this case, the Mallard Island Yacht Club does offer different rates for off-peak season and peak season.

This New Jersey wedding venue also offers two different options to reserve the estate for your wedding. One is a full estate rental, while the other is a 5-hour event rental plus an on-site ceremony.

It is always important to research the cost and availability of a venue with them directly! You can view more of the cost for a Mallard Island Yacht Club wedding here!

Mallard Island Yacht Club Wedding Guest Capacity

At this time, this New Jersey wedding venue has a maximum guest capacity of 250 guests.

Luxury rules at the moscow yacht show.

mallard island yacht club about

The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.

The best golf clubs in moscow: luxury, exclusivity, and entertainment.

By Walter Raymond

  • The Best Golf Clubs in…

In Russia, the western concept of building architecturally beautiful golf courses filled with modern and luxurious amenities has found fertile ground. What was considered a frivolous pastime during the time of the Soviets has become the latest trend for the stylish set. These days, there are countless options around Moscow to practice golf, polo, ski, yachting, and other sports alongside 5-star hotels, luxurious country houses, and magnificent villas.

The game of golf is a sport that requires passion and expertise. It is also part of a culture that considers this pastime a synonym of social prestige and exclusivity. In recent years, the new Russian elite has turned to golf as a vehicle of integration in the era of globalization. Golf courses are also meeting and socializing spaces where Muscovite tycoons can relax and also seal business deals.

Golf Courses in Russia

The Moscow Country Club, Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club, Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club, and Zavidovo Golf Club, PGA National Russia are some of the most exclusive and elegant golf courses in Russia. Some of them have made it to the list of Top 15 golf clubs in the world, a source of great prestige for the country.

The first 18-hole golf course built in Russia, Moscow Country Club, hosts the exclusive PGA European Tour. Located just eight miles from the city center, this luxurious facility was created by architect Robert Trent Jones Jr . The design takes advantage of a typical Russian birch and spruce forest to provide a natural environment of extraordinary beauty.

The Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is 18 miles from the heart of Moscow, close to historical monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries. Designed by famed architects Paul and Dave Thomas , this 18-hole course is part of a complex that includes a yacht club, an equestrian center, and a health and wellness facility. Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is Russia’s version of a classic country club with multiple attractions.

This park is among the best in Eastern Europe and was awarded the 2014 World Golf Award as the best golf course in Russia. Located 25 miles from Moscow, it is part of a vast complex featuring an 18-hole golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus , a polo club and a mountain ski club with four tracks. The design combines classic Scottish, Alpine, and English features in a dreamy landscape.

Less than 60 miles from Moscow, this golf course with a definite Scottish design is the only one in Russia recognized as a PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) from Britain and Ireland. Located in an ecologically pristine area on the banks of the Volga River, the Zavidovo Golf Club embodies the spirit and appearance of the legendary Scottish golf courses. Its many springs and streams, hills, forests, swamps and lakes justify its reputation as a very demanding circuit. Last year, it entered the exclusive club of the 15 best golf courses in the world.   ■

The Hunt for Red October

An island with a famous chocolate factory becomes Moscow's newest hot spot.

soar_moscow_01_h1.jpg

In the 230 years since its creation, Moscow’s manmade island of Bolotny has vacillated between the glamorous and the glum, variously housing the British ambassador’s residence, a jumble of warehouses, a posh yacht club, and, most famously, the Red October Chocolate Factory, a fragrant landmark for much of the 20th century. In 2008 Red October moved outside the city; later that year, its cavernous headquarters was colonized by heiress Maria Baibakova’s nonprofit exhibition space, Baibakov Art Projects, which established the island as an art-world hot spot. Baibakova has since moved on, but the city’s young and fashionable continue to arrive in droves to dance, dine, gallery-hop, and take in the stellar views of the Moscow skyline. Here, a few of their favorite haunts.

soar_moscow_02.jpg

Rai, a gargoyle-bedecked nightclub, can hold up to 2,500 people—and the line outside can seem just as long thanks to its merciless feis kontrol, the process of screening patrons for attractiveness and wealth. Those who do make it inside will find blasting techno, lasers bouncing off mirrored walls, and mermaids and fire-breathers for entertainment (7.495.364.01.01, raiclub.ru” target=”new”>raiclub.ru). Nearby is Rolling Stone Tattoo & Bar , a club where the feis kontrol is a bit more forgiving and the music substantially more eclectic (7.495.504.09.33, rstattoo.ru ).

soar_moscow_03.jpg

Created to educate the next generation of architects and designers, the Strelka Institute opened this past May in what used to be Red October’s candy store and garage. Its one-year master’s program, which kicks off this month, was designed in part by Rem Koolhaas, who will visit bimonthly to teach. Students and nonstudents alike can watch films and listen to lectures in the outdoor amphitheater. The restaurant (pictured), which overlooks the gold onion domes of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, offers fruit-studded bulgur and Thai shrimp soup. The downstairs bar serves high-end cocktails, still a novelty in this vodka-loving town (7.495.771.74.37, strelkainstitute.com ).

soar_moscow_04.jpg

PICK A FIGHT

Located up a flight of dusty stairs in one of Red October’s old factory buildings, the October Boxing Club (pictured) boasts a clientele that includes some of Russia’s most famous TV personalities. Every day after work, a steady stream of Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank traders shows up to beat the stress out of one another (7.499.995.07.97, bcoctober.com ).

soar_moscow_05.jpg

GET AN EYEFUL

Within the walls of Red October (pictured), a number of gallerists are picking up where Baibakova left off. Pobeda Gallery, which helped host this summer’s Biennale for Young Art, shows cutting-edge contemporary photography (7.495.644.03.13, pobeda gallery.com). Mel Space often stages street-art exhibitions in a stark loft (7.499.230.31.09, melspace.ru ). Known for displaying Soviet art from 1920 to 1960, the newly relocated Art Agency Colony is branching out with an exhibit of lush, blurry works by contemporary artist Igor Kormyshev (7.499.788.62.28, no website).

A guide to Indian Lake, hammered by Thursday's storms

mallard island yacht club about

The Indian Lake area of Ohio was torn by storms Thursday night . Here's a guide to the lake:

Where is Indian Lake?

Indian Lake is in Logan County, about 70 miles northwest of Columbus.

How big is Indian Lake?

The lake is about 5,100 acres, making it the third largest lake in Ohio, behind Grand Lake St. Marys (13,500 acres) in Auglaize and Mercer counties and Mosquito Creek Lake (7,850 acres) in Trumbull County, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. In addition, Pymatuning Reservoir, which straddles Ohio and Pennsylvania, covers 14,000 acres.

Is Indian Lake natural?

Indian Lake is man-made. According to the ODNR , it began in 1851 as "Old Indian Lake," a feeder lake for the Miami & Erie Canal. A bulkhead completed in 1860 allowed the lake, then called Lewiston Reservoir, to grow to more than 6,300 acres. Although Indian Lake is very shallow, with an average depth of 6 feet, it has largely been spared the algae that has stained other Ohio lakes because of the Indian Lake Watershed Project, established in the 1990s to keep the water clean.

How many people live on Indian Lake?

About 1,300 people live in the lake's largest town, Russells Point, and another 1,200 live down the road in Lakeview, both on the lake's southern shore. Hundreds more live around the lake, many of them in seasonal trailer parks and campgrounds, making the area vulnerable to storms.

What is Indian Lake best known for?

For decades, an amusement park and dance halls along the lake's southern rim drew visitors from miles around and provided the lake's nickname, the "Midwest's Million Dollar Playground." The last bits of the amusement park were torn down in the early 1980s; only the I ndian Lake Rollarena in Russells Point provides a hint of the lake's entertainment past.

Was the 1960s hit "Indian Lake" about this lake?

No. The Cowsills' 1968 Top 10 hit "Indian Lake" is thought to be based on a lake in Upstate New York.

What is housing like around Indian lake?

Much of Indian Lake's homes remain trailers in campgrounds, especially on the north and west sides of the lake. But a growing number of large new homes have been built on the lake this century, especially on the lake's multiple islands and eastern shore. Many of the older, modest homes still sell under $100,000, but newer homes can command more than half a million dollars. The lake's real-estate landed it a spot on the HGTV shows "Island Life" and "Island Hunters."

What impact did the storms have on the lake's state park?

The ODNR has closed Indian Lake State Park, on the west side of the lake, until further notice. "ODNR staff and other emergency crews will assess the impact of the storm and reevaluate the status of the park later today," the department posted Friday . The 8,400-acre park is one of Ohio's four original state parks, created in 1949.

Planned Outage for Some Cornell Lab Services

Several Cornell Lab of Ornithology services will be unavailable beginning March 19 through 6:00 a.m. U.S. Eastern time on March 21 . This is a one-time disruption while we migrate more than 1.6 billion eBird observations and additional project data to new servers. After the move, our websites will have improved reliability, stability, and room to grow. Thank you for your understanding during this outage.

Don’t worry, your data (checklists, media, Bird Academy courses, Merlin life list, etc.) will be safe during the migration and will be unaffected when we come back online.

Unavailable: The following websites and services will be down during this period:

  • eBird.org , including eBird portals, eBird Alerts, the eBird API, eBird Science, and data downloads
  • Macaulay Library
  • Birds of the World

Partially affected: Several Cornell Lab projects will remain up but services that require a login will be unavailable:

  • Bird Academy login and store will be unavailable. Users will be able to access most course materials if they were logged in to the site before the outage. Snap ID quizzes will not function during the outage.
  • NestWatch and Project FeederWatch login and data entry will be unavailable both on the website and the app. Please record your data on paper and enter it after the outage ends.
  • eBird Mobile app : The Explore and My eBird functions will not work during the outage. You can use the app to create checklists and then submit them after the outage ends. Your eBird data will be safe.
  • Merlin Bird ID app : Sound ID will continue to work, as well as Photo ID, Step-by-Step, and Explore, using your recent locations only. You will not be able to save sightings, refresh your life list, update your location, or log in to your account. These functions will return when the outage ends and your data will be safe.

Unaffected: The following sites will continue to function as normal:

  • Cornell Lab of Ornithology institutional website
  • All About Birds

What Can I Do During the Outage?

Go out birding.

  • If you already have Merlin Bird ID app installed, you can still use it for some purposes. Though you won’t be able to update your location, save sightings, or refresh your life list, the ID functions will still work with your saved locations, and you can still browse species using Explore Birds

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.
