The Club has full ablution facilities and water and diesel are also available. Please note that the wearing of wet clothes in the Clubhouse is not permitted. A slipway is available if a yacht needs to be taken out of the water. The closest shops, post office & banks are about 3km away.

SITUATION (how to get there) By Road: From East London, head south on Settlers Way (R72). Just over the river, turn left into Pontoon Road. Turn left into Ferry Hill Road, go under Pontoon Road bridge. By Sea: Proceed all the way into the harbour, to just before the railway bridge where the Buffalo River Yacht Club is located, on the south bank. There is plenty of room to anchor next to the Club, or you may find a free visitors space on the Yacht Club pontoons.

Buffalo River, East London

Visitors flying into the city will cross the Buffalo River on their trip into the city from the East London Airport. Home to the Buffalo Harbour and Port of East London, the Buffalo River is the largest of the four rivers and is home to South Africa’s only river port. This river is also the playground for everyone who loves water-sports and is home to no less than 4 clubs, being the The Buffalo River Yacht Club (BRYC), the East London Ski Boat Club, The East London Yacht Club and the Leander Rowing Club and is also home to the oldest national sporting event in South Africa, the Buffalo Regatta as well as the Selborne Sprints. Visitors wishing to explore the river and test their sea legs have the option of booking dolphin & whale watching cruises as well as both ocean and river cruises with Southern Cross Ocean and River Cruises. Understandably given the amount of boating that takes place there, it is also home to the NSRI (National Sea Rescue Institute). The Buffalo River also provides food and entertainment for those who visit her banks. The Sea Spirit offers visitors some of the best ‘fish and slap chips’ in town and is very much a laid-back fisherman-style fish market offering you great food in an authentic fisherman’s setting.

The East London Ski Boat Club offers launch facilities for visiting boats. The club is situated between old Latimer’s Landing and the NSRI on the East Bank of the Buffalo River. This can be reached by turning left off Fleet Street, onto Pontoon Road before reaching the bridge and following this road over the railway line.

We offer sailing courses and SAMSA accredited ski boat courses.

Buffalo River Yacht Club is an active sailing club in East London, SA. We offer warm hospitality to all guests and invite sailors from all over to visit us.

FENN KAYAKS was established in 1988 by Keith Fenn. Keith personally oversees all operations at the factory in the lovely city of East London in South Africa, from initial design through to production. FENN KAYAKS prides itself in its innovative, quality designs that accommodate all paddlers from beginners to the podium placing blokes, whilst ensuring durability is never compromised. The FENN Factory manufactures some 1500 surfskis a year, a huge number of paddles and is slowing brewing up a FENN Apparel Range.

East London Yacht Club is all about water sport in East London, incorporating the Power Boat club, as well as Border Paddlers. We are a vibrant group who meet regularly at the club usually on Saturdays from around 09:00 to spend time on the water, be it Racing / Training / Power Boating or Paddling – ELYC is the place to be over weekends.

As with its Austin counterpart, SXSW London will be a mecca of creativity, culture, and technology but will have its own distinctive edge due to the city’s vibrant personality and proximity to Europe. More than 20 million people currently work in creative and technology sectors across the Old Continent.
