Christensen Yachts was born from a partnership between Dave Christensen and Westport shipyards, as the once construction industry icon looked for a yard to commission his personal boat. After several frustrating interviews at various factories, Dave decided to build it himself. Westport built the hull, while Dave did all of the finishing on his own. By the time the yacht was finished, Christensen was inundated with orders for boats and soon realized the opportunity.

Focusing on completely custom-built luxury yachts between 100-feet and 165-feet, Christensen soon made a name for itself as one of the top manufacturers every to come out of the U.S. The original shipyard was located in Vancouver, Washington and over the years produced over 120 motor yachts . Christensen was known to be a pioneer in using composite fiberglass in the construction process. In 2009, Christensen Yachts began the production of a superyacht facility on Tellico Lake in Tennessee. The facility remained unfinished until 2019, but is now home to Christensen where they have two yachts currently under construction.

Every Christensen Yacht splashed was built to the very best capabilities of the American shipyard. Only the finest materials were used and every hull would undergo a large-scale vacuum-bagging resin-infusion process for the perfect strength-to-weight ratio. Other innovative construction techniques have also greatly improved interest in the builder. For example, Christensen invested in their own comprehensive HVAC systems that replace copper nickel salt-water piping with composite piping which is easier for maintenance.

Vancouver, Washington-based Christensen Shipyards builds world-class seagoing motor yachts finished by the best American craftsmen to the highest standards of excellence.

Founded as Christensen Motor Yacht Corporation in 1985 by Dave Christensen who, starting in 1955, had built everything from apartments to houses to hospitals and parking structures throughout the Pacific Northwest. In the early ’80s, Christensen began building yachts in the interest of building himself a yacht of greater quality than what he saw available at the time. He then partnered with Westport Shipyards, which crafted the hulls while he executed the finish work. By 1986 Christensen had built his own facilities and mold to build his own hulls. The company changed its name to Christensen Shipyards, Ltd., in 1993, and the rest is history.

Today, the Christensen facility consists of more than 180,000 square feet of climate-controlled manufacturing space and a seven-acre marina. The facility has 12 large manufacturing and assembly bays, housing each of the construction operations including electrical, metal shop, paint shops, a cabinet shop, a marble and stone shop, and an upholstery department. A new, expanded bay features an 80-foot ceiling that allows the builder to complete the yachts indoors before moving them to the water. Christensen’s enclosed and gated marina can accommodate up to seven yachts and its dry dock can hold yachts up to 400 tons. To date, Christensen has delivered over 40 yachts ranging in size from 65 to 164 feet with room to grow. The yard has collaborated with such interior designers as Carol Williamson & Associates, among others.

After a few years of lull, Christensen has reinvented itself as a “get-it-done-whatever-it-takes” shipyard and business is booming. In June of 2016, the shipyard announced 2 major launches using their state-of -the-art, revolutionary launching system ; The 50m yacht, SILVER LINING (Hull 36) and the 50m CHASSEUR (Hull 40) .

Over the years Christensen has built luxury yachts for luminaries including New York magnate John Staluppi, legendary golfer Tiger Woods and British philanthropist Len Blavatnik, and with further ground-breaking designs on the horizon, it is not hard to see why this firm continues to be so successful.

Over the past four decades Christensen Yachts has developed from Dave Christensen’s singular passion into a yacht manufacturing firm of international renown. Christensen personally led many of the firm’s early projects before handing the reigns over to two new owners, both Christensen yacht owners themselves, in 2008. Nowadays the company is led by CEO Joe Foggia, who is not allowing the company rest on its already significant achievements. Growing in size year on year, the company has an experienced workforce of 120 with 1,000 years of boat building experience between them.

Though the company originated in Vancouver, Washington, and still maintains an impressive 180,000 square feet facility in the city, it is now developing an even bigger shipyard of some 450,000 square feet by the shores of Tellico Lake, Tennessee. This move will allow the firm to construct yachts of even greater size and ambition – and puts their leadership closer to valued customers on the East Coast.

Central to the Christensen Yachts ethos is a belief in the finest possible finished product: a sign over the shipyard’s entrance proudly reads, “Through these doors pass the finest boat builders in the world.” The firm works hard and works smart to live up to this motto, having equipped their shipyards with the latest industrial processes in order to keep ahead of the market. Located at their sites are facilities such as an exclusive marina, large scale vacuum infusion, proprietary composite hull manufacture, an in-house stonework center, their very own upholstery team and more, each helping Christensen achieve excellence at every step of the build.

The firm has built over 50 bespoke yachts for the rich and famous down the years, and in 2012 joined forces with Ocean Alexander Yachts to produce semi-custom tri-deck superyachts in a fraction of the time taken by rival yards. Notable Christensen yachts include the Chasseur, a dreamy off-white superyacht with a classic, 50s feel courtesy of interior designers Varo Designs. This yacht features breezy, open-plan living spaces across four levels, splendid amenities including a jacuzzi and even space for a helipad. Dating from 2016, the yacht won the prestigious “Judges’ Special Award for Achievement” at the 2017 Superyacht Awards. Yet the Chasseur is far from the only Christensen yacht to be decorated with industry awards. The firm’s yachts have won the Robb Report “Best of the Best” titles on three separate occasions, highlighting the acclaim with which their unique yachts are frequently showered.

Christensen Hull 42

This four-level template yacht comes in the style of two of Christensen’s most celebrated yachts: the Chasseur and Odessa. At 164 feet in length and launched in 2019, this model is one of the firm’s most spectacular. Twin MTU 12V engines give this model a top speed of 16 knots, and a range of over 4,000 nautical miles when cruising at 12 knots. 12 guests are able to sleep overnight in 6 sumptuous staterooms, while 5 well-appointed staff cabins can sleep up to 10 members of crew. Yet it is the range of customisation that may appeal most of all to prospective buyers, as any newly built Christensen Yachts Hull 42 can be designed as lavishly or as personalized as the customer demands. The Odessa, for instance, finishes Christensen’s typical free-flowing, wide open interior spaces with teak surrounds, walnut flooring and neutral marble surfaces. Textiles and furnishings by Armani Casa add a luxurious and sophisticated touch for supreme comfort, while main salon and formal dining room are separated by a showpiece live aquarium panel. Space for multiple water toys and tenders is also included to make this the perfect party and entertainment yacht.

Christensen Hull 38

This model, launched in 2018, matches the pedigree of great Christensen yachts like the Silver Lining and D’Natalin IV. Large enough to come equipped with a rear helipad, a towering flybridge and cockpit, as well as two spacious rear aft decks, this swish and powerful yacht is sure to be highly coveted by the world’s top yacht owners. Measuring 164 feet in length, with an overall beam of almost 27 feet, the yacht is powered by twin MTU 12V engines and an A22 Aquayloy propulsion shaft for a maximum speed of 16 knots and an impressive ocean-going range of over 4,000 nautical miles. The yacht comes with space for 12 guests and 10 crew and boasts a light and airy open-plan interior that can be arranged and decorated according to the customer’s wishes. The Silver Lining, for example, was given the Kimberly Graham treatment when launched in 2016, and impresses with a glossy yet classic interior. Inside walls are panelled with black American walnut and Christensen stonework while three sparkling cut-glass chandeliers hang above the tasteful formal dining room and bar. Bathrooms are furnished with Art Deco vanity lamps and lined with veined marble, while stateroom floors are covered with plush beige carpet for that at-home feel. Outside spaces are just as impressive, yet with a sleeker, more modern feel. An outdoor bar and kitchen space on the sun deck leads to a circular jacuzzi and modular fitted sofas ideal for sunbathing, while an aft swimming deck is the perfect launching spot for those who want to dive in and feel the saltwater against their skin.

Christen Hull 30 Party Girl

Among the most charming of the many yachts launched by Christensen in recent years is the Party Girl, a 146-foot-long superyacht built with entertainment in mind. Internal design by the Pavlik brand decks interior walls and floors with warm glazed maple and sycamore wood, while the yacht’s large main bar boasts a backlit onyx screen to create a sophisticated aura as festivities continue into the night. An Art Nouveau, etched glass mural up the yacht’s central staircase marks this yacht out as something special and is sure to wow guests lucky enough to stay aboard. A top speed of 18 knots and a 4,000 nautical mile range comes courtesy of twin Caterpillar diesel engines, while Naiad Zero Speed stabilizers offer passengers a sense of surety while out at sea. Registered in the Cayman Islands, yacht lovers can spot this yacht visiting the most exclusive ports and marinas around the Caribbean, including in tropical Guadeloupe.

One of America’s biggest custom superyacht builders, Christensen Shipyards in Vancouver, Wash., is known for its artisans’ craftsmanship and painstaking attention to detail.

History of Christensen Yachts

Founder Dave Christensen’s first career was construction, which he pursued from the mid-1950s to the early 1980s, building both commercial and residential projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. After retiring from the construction business in 1982, he decided to build a yacht, but could not find a manufacturer that lived up to his exacting specifications. So he partnered with Westport Shipyard, which built him a hull, then personally completed the yacht’s fit and finish. The resulting luxury yacht was so successful, he incorporated Christensen Shipyards in 1986.

Dave Christensen continued at the helm for another quarter of a century, building ever-larger yachts, until he retired from his “second career” in 2008. The luxury superyacht shipyard he founded continues to build in his exacting tradition today under the management of CEO Joe Foggia.

Notable Launches

While Christensen has developed “series” hull moulds for composite yachts of different sizes up to 50 metres in length, each yacht it builds is fully custom and most feature the work of a noted interior designer. Recent notable luxury superyacht launches include American owner John Staluppi’s former 59.68-metre Casino Royale , which launched in 2008. The superyacht’s interior design was a collaboration between the Staluppi and Carol Williamson & Associates. Carol Williamson also created the interior design for the successful, black-hulled luxury charter yacht Odessa , a 48.77-metre Christensen custom yacht that launched in 2009.

In 2012, a new alliance between Ocean Alexander Yachts, Christensen, and interior designer Evan K. Marshall resulted in the launch of the 36.9-metre Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht. This is the first in a planned series of tri-deck luxury superyachts ranging up to 47.2 metres.

OCEAN PEARL Yacht for Sale

OCEAN PEARL is a seaworthy long-range yacht known for her wide beam and classic Christensen lines. Recently, the vessel came out of the shipyard after having her port engine fully rebuilt. The propellers and shafts were removed, balanced and tuned to ensure a smooth ride. OCEAN PEARL won the 2007 IYBA Mega Yacht of the Year award and is considered in better condition than when she was new.

The yacht features an elegant, welcoming, and comfortable interior. The main salon and dining area have large windows on both sides, and the wood paneling and trim are of beautiful medium-dark mahogany. Guests can relax and entertain in the comfortable seating area with two couches, two armchairs, a large TV, and a cocktail table. The formal dining area can seat ten guests, and there is a wet bar with a sink, refrigerator, wine cooler and icemaker to starboard. The galley is located on the port side of the main deck and has an L-shaped settee dining area, large opening windows for natural ventilation and a door to the side deck.

OCEAN PEARL has accommodations for up to 11 guests across four cabins, including a midship master stateroom with a king-sized pillow-top mattress, a cedar-lined closet, and an adjacent cabin that can be opened to create a full-beam suite. The VIP queen cabin has a queen-sized pillow-top mattress, cedar-lined hanging lockers, and an ensuite bathroom with a large tub enclosure with a shower and vanity with a single sink. The guest port stateroom cabin features a queen-size berth with a pillow-top mattress, a single Pullman berth, and an ensuite bathroom with a single sink vanity and stall shower. The guest/children's stateroom can sleep four people across two twin bunks and two Pullman berths, with an ensuite bathroom featuring a single sink and stall shower. The crew area is forward of the pilothouse and includes a captain's cabin, two crew quarters with over/under single bunks and ensuite bathrooms, and a crew galley and lounge.

The exterior decks of OCEAN PEARL are spacious and well-equipped for entertaining and relaxation. The cockpit is a protected area suitable for fishing, entertaining, or sunbathing, with larger storage lockers and three deck hatches for easy access to the steering gear and ample storage space. The California deck is fully protected with a removable isinglass enclosure and plexiglass doors leading to the side decks. The flybridge features two comfortable settee areas, a six-person hot tub, and a full-service bar with an icemaker, refrigerator, and BBQ. There are also lockers with extra refrigeration and freezer space. The boat deck area has removable chocks for a tender and two WaveRunners, and kayaks and stand-up paddleboards can be stored on top of the hardtop. The foredeck has a large sunpad and cushioned bow seat, making it a comfortable gathering area.

OCEAN PEARL's four staterooms are almost equal in size, making for an ideal charter configuration. If desired, the master stateroom can be modified to be a full beam cabin with ensuite study.

The salon is very generous with large windows on port and starboard sides. The wood paneling and trim is of beautiful medium dark mahogany.

The salon is accessed from the California deck and serves as a comfortable entertaining and lounging area. There is a large TV, cocktail table and comfortable seating on two couches and two armchairs. 

The formal dining area is forward of the salon with seating for ten guests. To starboard is the wet bar with sink, refrigerator, wine cooler and ice maker. Forward of the dining area is a large China cabinet with ample storage.

The country kitchen style galley is on the port side main deck between the dining area and the pilothouse.

The galley is furnished with an L-shaped settee dining area, large opening windows for natural ventilation and a door to the side deck. This area has a light open and airy feel with teak hardwood flooring. This is a natural gathering spot for friends and family.

Master Stateroom

The master stateroom is midship to starboard on the lower deck. It is furnished with a centerline king-sized pillow top mattress, cedar lined closet, abundant drawer and cabinet space. The ensuite master head features a large tub and shower, two sinks and a separate redwood infrared sauna. It is possible to open the master into the adjacent cabin to make a full beam suite.

Vip Stateroom

The VIP queen cabin is midship to port on the lower deck. Furnishings include a queen-sized pillow top mattress, ample drawer storage and cedar lined hanging lockers. The ensuite head features a large tub enclosure with shower and vanity with a single sink.

Guest Staterooms

The guest port stateroom includes a queen-size berth with pillow top mattress and a single Pullman berth. The stateroom features ample storage and cedar-lined closets. The ensuite head features a single sink vanity and stall shower.

Captain's Quarters

The captain’s cabin is forward of the pilothouse and to port and features a double berth, ensuite head with stall shower.

There is ample seating with a helm chair and spacious settee. Port and starboard doors lead to the side decks with steps leading forward to the crew area forward and steps to the flybridge aft.

The flybridge is accessed by the spiral staircase ascending from the California deck or from the pilothouse. There are three steering stations on this deck, port and starboard sides and at the back of the deck giving great visibility in tight spaces. The 4000lb hydraulic davit is mounted centerline at the aft deck allowing maximum reach on deck and port / starboard sides.

There are two comfortable bridge settee areas. One of the settees is protected under the hardtop and the other is on the open deck.

Just aft of the bridge enclosure and hardtop is a six-person hot tub and full-service bar with icemaker, refrigerator and BBQ. There are also lockers with extra refrigeration and freezer space.

The boat deck area has removable chocks for a tender and two Wave Runners. Kayaks and stand-up paddle boards can be stored on top of the hardtop. Once all the water toys are launched, there is plenty of entertaining space on this deck.

Cockpit, California Deck And Bow

Guests typically board at the wide integrated swim step leading into the generous cockpit. There are additional boarding gates midship on port and starboard sides giving access to the wide walk around decks.

The cockpit is a well-protected area suitable for fishing, entertaining or sunbathing. The engine room door and steps to the California deck are forward as well as larger storage lockers. There are three deck hatches allowing access to the steering gear and ample storage space.

The California deck is fully protected with a removable isinglass enclosure and plexiglass doors leading to the side decks. This makes for cool weather comfort or open shaded areas in warmer temps.

A large sun-pad and cushioned bow seat make up another comfortable gathering area for whale watching, sunbathing or sleeping under the stars.

Planned Outage for Some Cornell Lab Services

Several Cornell Lab of Ornithology services will be unavailable beginning March 19 through 6:00 a.m. U.S. Eastern time on March 21 . This is a one-time disruption while we migrate more than 1.6 billion eBird observations and additional project data to new servers. After the move, our websites will have improved reliability, stability, and room to grow. Thank you for your understanding during this outage.

Don’t worry, your data (checklists, media, Bird Academy courses, Merlin life list, etc.) will be safe during the migration and will be unaffected when we come back online.

Unavailable: The following websites and services will be down during this period:

• eBird.org , including eBird portals, eBird Alerts, the eBird API, eBird Science, and data downloads
• Macaulay Library
• Birds of the World

Partially affected: Several Cornell Lab projects will remain up but services that require a login will be unavailable:

• Bird Academy login and store will be unavailable. Users will be able to access most course materials if they were logged in to the site before the outage. Snap ID quizzes will not function during the outage.
• NestWatch and Project FeederWatch login and data entry will be unavailable both on the website and the app. Please record your data on paper and enter it after the outage ends.
• eBird Mobile app : The Explore and My eBird functions will not work during the outage. You can use the app to create checklists and then submit them after the outage ends. Your eBird data will be safe.
• Merlin Bird ID app : Sound ID will continue to work, as well as Photo ID, Step-by-Step, and Explore, using your recent locations only. You will not be able to save sightings, refresh your life list, update your location, or log in to your account. These functions will return when the outage ends and your data will be safe.

Unaffected: The following sites will continue to function as normal:

• Cornell Lab of Ornithology institutional website
• All About Birds
• Cornell Lab YouTube channel

What Can I Do During the Outage?

Go out birding.

• If you already have Merlin Bird ID app installed, you can still use it for some purposes. Though you won’t be able to update your location, save sightings, or refresh your life list, the ID functions will still work with your saved locations, and you can still browse species using Explore Birds
• If you already have the eBird Mobile app installed on your device, you can start eBird Mobile checklists during the downtime and submit them once eBird is back online. Learn how to Enter Sightings with eBird Mobile
