Exterior design

With all the cabins located in the bow, the deck plan of the Sense 57 is both clever and exceptional. With this distinct layout, the cockpit is closer to water level, emphasizing her slender profile. The Sense 57 is perfectly balanced under sail and highly maneuverable. She is remarkably comfortable sailing in all sea conditions and she boasts fine cruising speeds.

Interior design

Below deck, just three steps down from the cockpit, you will find a large salon bathing in natural light, offering an omnipresent sea view.  A lengthwise fitted galley compliments this generous space. The three roomy forward cabins, including a master suite, allow for complete relaxation and serenity on the high seas. Particular attention has been given to details and finishes, as well as the choice of ‘Alpi fruit tree’ or ‘Matt walnut’ wood stains, creating a luxurious, yet warm, atmosphere.

57 sailboat

At anchor, the aft platform creates a real terrace space flush with the sea. The sink and plancha grill concealed below the helm seats make it easy to have a really good time in the open air, with the sea at your feet. The platform is operated hydraulically, closing off the cockpit entirely and making it safe under sail.

Semi-hardtop Bimini

The Bimini specially developed for this boat is a major innovation. It is very easy to open and close and shelters the spacious cockpit from the sun and bad weather. Seamlessly integrating the cruiser’s profile, it can be closed completely by adding additional side protection.

Night spaces

All the night spaces in the Sense 57 enjoy an incredible amount of headroom and comprise two spacious guest cabins with sliding doors and a very large owner cabin. You will be struck by the sensation of space.  Each cabin has an en suite shower room.

Oyster 575 Sailing v5

WHAT WE SAY

A LUXURY SAILBOAT BUILT TO ROAM THE WORLD’S OCEANS

The Oyster 575 is a popular 17.3m (57.6ft) bluewater cruising yacht from the dynamic design partnership of Oyster Yachts and Humphreys Yacht Design.

Offered as a new-build Oyster between 2011 and 2018, this luxury sailboat underwent an interior redesign with subtle changes to her layout, using the invaluable feedback of our Oyster Owners on their world travels.

The final result was a revised 575, with superyacht qualities inspired by the award-winning  Oyster 625  bluewater cruiser. This included the addition of Oyster’s signature ‘Seascape’ windows for breathtaking views out from her saloon and the raising of her chart area to the same level as the saloon seating, allowing her chart table to flow seamlessly into the surrounding joinery.

A beautifully crafted companionway staircase was also added to lead guests below decks, adding to the feeling of quality and security on this luxury sailboat, and the forward guest cabin was expanded with direct access to the forward head.

Subtle joinery enhancements included the addition of sculpted headliners, upgraded cabin doors and door furniture, custom air-conditioning vents and accent lighting in the saloon, and more contemporary styling in the heads. On the practical side, her standard specification was raised to include Formula spars, a Volvo D3 engine and Raymarine i70 sailing instruments.

Pure hull lines from Humphreys Yacht Design make the Oyster 575 a fast passage-maker and an effortless bluewater cruising yacht. She boasts an exhilarating performance that placed her as the perfect Oyster for the nine owners who chose her as their entries for the 2017-19 Oyster World Rally.

Rig and Sails

Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

  • SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
  • D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
  • LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
  • LOA: Length overall in feet
  • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

First introduced as a racer with trim tab (as shown here). Later boats were turned out with more cruising amenities. Some were even rigged as schooners. An unknown number were sold as the SAILCRAFTER 57. The COLUMBIA 56 (Motor sailor), introduced in 1974, came from this same hull mold.

Southerly 57 RS

  • By Beth A. Leonard
  • Updated: February 16, 2011

Every boat consists of a series of compromises, but some designs manage to strike a balance in which far more is gained than given up. Since 1978, Northshore Yachts, in Chichester, England, has been building high-quality semicustom, variable-draft sailboats that deliver, as the company’s literature puts it, “deep-draft performance and shallow-draft freedom.” Its new flagship, the Southerly 57RS, brings together Northshore’s swing-keel technology and designer Ed Dubois’ superyacht styling and sensibility to create a 58-foot bluewater luxury yacht that can be sailed shorthanded across an ocean and then parked within wading distance of the beach.

Northshore Yachts has sold more than 900 variable-draft Southerlies in the past three decades, incorporating swing-keel technology into ever-larger sailboats. The underbody on the 57RS consists of twin canted rudders and a 7,385-pound cast-iron keel that retracts completely into a heavy-duty keel box set in a grounding plate that provides an additional 11,794 pounds of ballast. With the keel all the way up, the boat can sit on this plate and a centerline skeg that protects the propeller and keeps the rudders safely off the bottom. A hydraulic ram controlled by a button positions the keel anywhere from fully retracted to fully extended. If the keel hits something, it swings clear of the obstacle without damaging the ram. With 10 feet 6 inches of maximum draft, the boat sails well to within 30 degrees of the apparent wind but can still sneak in front of all the other yachts in an anchorage to anchor in 3 feet 6 inches of water.

While Northshore has plenty of experience with swing-keel technology, this is its first 50-foot-plus design and its first collaboration with naval architect Ed Dubois. Designing a boat in the 55- to 65-foot range can be tricky as some couples will operate the boat themselves and others will hire professional crew. While maintaining the overall styling introduced by Rob Humphreys in the 42RST and 49-foot models, Dubois has brought together a sensible sail plan that can be managed by a couple, design details and amenities normally found only on much larger yachts, and a choice of interiors to meet different owners’ requirements.

The 57RS has plenty of sail area to drive its 55,000-pound displacement. The double-headed rig consists of a 990-square-foot, full-batten mainsail and two furling headsails, one at the stem and the other just aft. The self-tacking blade jib on the solent, or inner, stay makes for easy singlehanded short-tacking up a channel or into an anchorage, while the 140-percent genoa on the headstay powers the boat to windward in moderate conditions. Offshore, unfurl both sails and pole out the blade jib for easy downwind miles; when the wind goes light, set the 2,000-square-foot asymmetric gennaker from the retractable sprit. While it takes a bit of time for that much displacement to start rolling in light air, once moving, the boat slips along through short chop without a hitch. In 7 to 10 knots of true wind, the Southerly 57RS sailed at 6 knots to within 35 degrees apparent with the keel down, and the speed increased to 7 knots when we cracked off to 70 degrees apparent. The 990-square-foot mainsail is available with in-mast or in-boom furling as well as in a conventional, full-batten setup.

Down below, Dubois has created luxurious spaces on different levels that function equally well for a couple or a crowd. The raised seating area over the keel box in the center of the boat allows a party of 10 to see out the large ports while lounging around the dinner table. Professional crew can take their meal in the small “breakfast nook” opposite the galley that doubles as a computer workstation. Dubois has designed in spaces for superyacht amenities like a dishwasher and trash compactor in a galley with enough room for four people to work. The different levels in the boat do make for a choppy, up-and-down traffic flow, though: from the galley up to the main saloon, across the main saloon and down to the base of the companionway, up the companionway steps to the cockpit. To some this could be annoying when trying to serve a big meal in the cockpit.

Dubois hasn’t compromised on the essentials for safe offshore sailing. Bluewater details include clean side decks with molded-in handgrips along the coachroof within easy reach all the way to the mast, dorades for heavy-weather ventilation, an optional dinghy garage for proper offshore stowage, and, at the base of the companionway, a commodious nav station to port and a head with a wet locker to starboard. But he’s also provided flexibility with three different layouts. Owner-operator couples with coastal aspirations will probably trade the dinghy garage for the splendid aft master suite; those with professional crew or frequent guests will find the three-cabin layout more to their liking. The combination of the dinghy garage and four real sea berths in the four-cabin layout will appeal to owners dreaming of long offshore passages.

The double headsail rig should be great offshore, but with two furlers forward of the windlass, two anchor rollers, and the optional retractable sprit, the bow platform felt a bit crowded to me. I also felt it’d be difficult to fit two anchors up there. Additionally, I found the systems throughout our test boat to be complex and access tight in some areas. However, according to Claire Horsman of Northshore, the systems on our test boat reflect a high level of customer customization. “Other examples of the 57RS aren’t as complex nor do they have any access issues,” she said.

Still, the Southerly 57RS will widen the horizons of cruising sailors by allowing them to explore the interface between land and water without giving up offshore safety and performance.

Morris 57’, 57' Offshore Pilothouse Sloop

Designed by the Fontaine Design Group-she was launched in August, 2008 at Morris Yachts in Northeast Harbor, Maine. She is the result of a collaborative effort between the Fontaine Design Group, Goetz Custom Boats and Morris Yachts.

The concept for this design evolved from the owner’s desire to keep his yacht practical. The size has been chosen based on the interior necessities of the owner, as well as sail handling designed primarily towards single-handed or couple sailing. Emphasis for the design of the yacht is on exciting sailing performance, without sacrificing safety for speed. The draft for the boat is 5’75”, suitable for East Coast sailing with a keel centerboard hull form. The rig is a carbon fiber mast outfitted with an aluminum boom and a Leisurefurl “in boom” furling system.

The interior of the yacht includes: a fully appointed walk-thru galley; main salon U shaped dinette with an up-down table to convert the space into additional sleeping berths; a bar area in the main salon; three cabins including a very comfortable aft owners cabin with oversized centerline berth, two comfortable seats, a desk/vanity with laptop capabilities and a head with an independent shower stall.

HULL DESIGN

The Hylas H57 will impress discerning yachtsmen and women. The flowing lines of the latest hydrodynamic hull design offer comfort and speed during trans ocean passages. The fin keel ensures leeway (Side slip) is reduced and stiffens the yacht allowing her to carry the sail area this tall rig allows (Air draft 83’8”). The spade twin rudders optimize upwind sailing angles and provide the best traction when heeled. The wrap-around window, oversized port lights and a full 17′ beam that carries well aft creates a Super yacht sense of space and comfort.

INTERIOR SPACES & LAYOUTS

With a three or four cabin arrangement Hylas H57 offers great versatility and an ability to cruise with additional family, friends or professional crew. Customization is an important part of the Hylas value proposition. There is always a willingness to work closely with clients in creating an interior that reflects personal tastes.  Dixon has worked hard to ensure the Hybrid cockpit with aft helm stations does not impact head room in the standing areas of the master stateroom.

Video shows moment the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed

From CNN's Helen Regan

Video footage shows the moment the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed after it was struck by a large ship.

The footage shows a towering boat headed directly toward one of the bridge’s support columns before colliding with it, sending a massive stretch of the bridge crashing into the water below in mere seconds.

The crash sent large plumes of smoke and fire into the air and part of the bridge appeared to collapse over the front of the boat, the footage showed.

Dark smoke continued to rise into the air for several minutes.

Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapses after being stuck by large ship

From CNN's Melissa Alonso

The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed early Tuesday morning after it was struck by a large ship, according to video obtained by CNN.

It is unclear if anyone was injured.

Maryland Transportation Authority (MTA) says all traffic is being detoured.

CNN has reached out to Baltimore City Fire Department for additional information.

The 1.6-mile, four-lane bridge extends over the Patapsco River and serves as the outermost crossing of the Baltimore harbor and an essential link of Interstate-695, or the Baltimore Beltway.

The Latest | Ship that collapsed Baltimore bridge was carrying hazardous materials, officials say

The Latest on the ship crash that collapsed the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore (all times local):

The cargo ship that caused the Baltimore bridge collapse was carrying hazardous materials, the National Transportation Safety Board said.

NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said there are 56 containers aboard containing hazardous materials, including corrosives, flammables and lithium ion batteries. She said some containers were breached and a sheen was identified in the water that will be dealt with by authorities. She said the voyage data recorder has been recovered.

Homendy said the investigation could take 12 to 24 months but that the NTSB will not hesitate to issue urgent safety recommendations during that time. She said a preliminary report should be released in two to four weeks.

“It’s a massive undertaking for an investigation,” Homendy said. “It’s a very tragic event.”

More of the latest:

AUTHORITIES IDENTIFY THE TWO BODIES RECOVERED AT SITE OF BRIDGE COLLAPSE

Authorities have released the identities of the two people recovered from the water Wednesday morning at the site of the Baltimore bridge collapse.

Maryland State Police Superintendent Col. Roland L. Butler said 35-year-old Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes and 26-year-old Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera were recovered from a red pickup truck submerged in about 25 feet (7.62 meters) of water near the bridge’s middle span.

Jesus Campos, who has worked on the bridge for Brawner Builders and knows members of the construction crew who died, said he was told they were on a break and some were sitting in their trucks to warm up when the bridge collapsed.

Butler said it was no longer safe for divers to continue operations in the area.

“We have exhausted all search efforts in the areas around this wreckage, and based on sonar scans, we firmly believe that the vehicles are encased in the superstructure and concrete,” Butler said.

SHIP WAS UNDERGOING ENGINE MAINTENANCE BEFORE IT CRASHED INTO BRIDGE, COAST GUARD SAYS

The ship that crashed into a bridge in Baltimore was undergoing “routine engine maintenance” in the port beforehand, the Coast Guard said.

U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Shannon Gilreath said at a news conference on Wednesday that authorities had been informed that the ship was going to undergo routine engine maintenance before it lost power. But he said authorities were not informed of any problems.

TWO BODIES HAVE BEEN RECOVERED AT SITE OF BRIDGE COLLAPSE, AUTHORITES SAY

The bodies of two people have been recovered from the site of the Baltimore bridge that collapsed into a river early Tuesday when a ship crashed into it, said Col. Roland L. Butler Jr., superintendent for Maryland State Police.

Butler said Wednesday that a 35-year-old and a 26-year-old were recovered from a red pickup truck in the Patapsco River near the mid-span of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge.

The six construction workers who were missing and presumed dead were from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, Butler said.

Gov. Wes Moore told the families of the victims in Spanish, “Estamos contigo, ahora y siempre” which means, “We are with you, now and always.”

MARYLAND GOVERNOR TAKES A CLOSER LOOK AT DAMAGE IN BALTIMORE

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore is taking a closer look at the aftermath of the bridge collapse in Baltimore.

Moore boarded a Coast Guard ship with federal and local officials Wednesday to better understand the path the ship that caused the collapse took and how the crash happened, the governor’s office said. His office said his goal was to support the Coast Guard and other federal partners, thank first responders, and learn more about what happened.

BROTHER DESCRIBES MISSING CONSTRUCTION WORKER AS 'ALWAYS HAPPY'

One of the construction workers presumed dead in Baltimore was a 38-year-old father of two who dreamed of someday returning to his native Honduras, his brother says.

Carlos Suazo says his brother, Maynor Suazo, had been in the United States for 18 years but “always dreamed of, in his old age, retiring peacefully in Honduras.” He describes him as the beloved youngest sibling among four girls and four boys.

“He was someone who was always happy, was always thinking about the future. He was a visionary,” Carlos Suazo says.

He last spoke to his brother Sunday, when they had lunch to discuss planning for a family birthday party.

He says the family hasn’t lost hope his brother will be found alive.

BUTTIGIEG URGES BIPARTISAN SUPPORT FOR BALTIMORE FUNDING

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said Wednesday at a White House news briefing that it’s too soon to say if regulations would be waived to rebuild the bridge and reopen the port.

But he said President Joe Biden has said the federal government should “tear down any barriers, bureaucratic as well as financial” that could affect the timeline of any rebuild.

Buttigieg also had a message for Republicans in Congress who might oppose having the federal government pay for the effort. Infrastructure should be a bipartisan issue, he said.

“Today this is happening in Baltimore, tomorrow it could be their districts,” he said. “We really need to stand together, red blue and purple, to get these things done.”

BUTTIGIEG OFFERS NO TIMELINE FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT, PORT REOPENING

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg says it’s too soon to say how long it will take to reopen the Port of Baltimore or replace the destroyed bridge.

Buttigieg noted at a White House news briefing Wednesday that the bridge took five years to construct.

“That does not necessarily mean it will take five years to replace,” he said.

Coast Guard Vice Adm. Peter Gautier says hazardous materials aboard the damaged ship pose no threat to public safety.

Gautier said at the briefing that the ship is holding over 1.5 million gallons of fuel, and that more than 50 of the cargo containers on board contain hazardous material. But he says that the ship is stable and that authorities have determined there is no safety risk.

“There is no threat to the public,” he says.

BUTTIGIEG CITES 4 TRANSPORTATION FOCUSES

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg says the Biden administration is focused on four areas related to transportation as the investigation continues in Baltimore.

Speaking at a White House news briefing Wednesday, Buttigieg said officials are focused on reopening the port, dealing with supply chain issues, rebuilding the bridge and addressing surface transportation.

Buttigieg said he will meet with shipping and supply chain officials Thursday.

“We are going to help to get it open as soon as possible,” he said.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre says President Joe Biden has instructed his team “to move heaven and earth” to aid in recovery and rebuilding.

SINGAPORE PLANS ITS OWN INVESTIGATION

Officials in Singapore say they will conduct their own investigation into the bridge collapse, in addition to supporting U.S. authorities.

The ship that struck the bridge, the Dali, was traveling under a Singaporean flag. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said Wednesday it was working with the ship’s management company, Synergy Marine Group, to get information to the U.S. Coast Guard for its investigation.

The agency also said Singapore’s Transport Safety Investigation Bureau will independently investigate, not to determine liability, but to identify lessons for the future.

SHIP'S FUEL HEATER PRESSURE GAUGES HAD PROBLEM IN 2023

A 2023 inspection of the ship in a Chilean port turned up a problem with the fuel heater’s pressure gauges, but it was corrected before the ship left the port, the Maritime Authority of the Chilean Navy says.

Previous reports had indicated the June inspection of the Dali in Chile identified a problem with the ship’s “propulsion and auxiliary machinery,” according to the shipping information website Equasis, but the records didn’t elaborate.

The Chilean Navy said in a statement Wednesday that the ship had been inspected in the port of San Antonio on June 27, 2023, and that the pressure gauges of the fuel heaters “were detected to be illegible.”

The problem was corrected the same day, and the ship was able to depart, the Chilean Navy says.

The Dali was most recently inspected by the U.S. Coast Guard in New York in September 2023, and no deficiencies were detected, according to Equasis.

MEXICAN PRESIDENT HIGHLIGHTS CONTRIBUTIONS OF MIGRANT WORKERS

The president of Mexico says three Mexicans were among the workers on the bridge when it collapsed.

Two of the Mexican workers are missing. The third was injured and rescued.

“He is safe now,” President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Wednesday.

López Obrador also highlighted the contributions migrant workers make to the U.S. economy.

“This demonstrates that migrants go out and do risky jobs at midnight, and for this reason they do not deserve to be treated as they are by certain insensitive, irresponsible politicians in the United States,” he said.

Philippines lodges its ‘strongest protest’ against China over a water cannon assault in disputed sea

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — The Philippines lodged its “strongest protest” against Beijing on Monday and summoned a senior Chinese diplomat over a water cannon assault by the Chinese coast guard that injured Filipino navy crew members and heavily damaged their boat in the disputed South China Sea, officials said.

In response, China warned that relations were at a crossroads and the Philippines should choose a prudent path forward.

Two Chinese coast guard ships hit a Philippine navy-operated supply boat with water cannons Saturday in the latest and most serious confrontation between the rival Asian claimants near the disputed Second Thomas Shoal , which is surrounded by Chinese vessels in a bid to dislodge Philippine forces from there.

The repeated high-seas confrontations since last year have sparked fears of a larger conflict that could put China and the United States on a collision course. . The U.S. has warned repeatedly that it’s obligated to defend the Philippines — its oldest treaty ally in Asia — if Filipino forces, ships or aircraft come under an armed attack, including in the South China Sea.

The United States, the European Union, Japan, Australia and about 16 other countries have expressed support to the Philippines and the rule of law, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila.

China accused Philippine vessels of “intruding” into Chinese waters. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that the actions of the Chinese coast guard were “legitimate, professional and restrained” and that China would “continue to take resolute measures to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.”

The Chinese Embassy in Manila issued a statement by the Chinese coast guard that warned the Philippines against “playing with fire.”

Philippine Foreign Undersecretary Theresa Lazaro in a phone call with her Chinese counterpart expressed “the Philippines’ strongest protest against the aggressive actions undertaken by the China coast guard and Chinese maritime militia against the rotation and resupply mission undertaken by the Philippines,” the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong told Lazaro that relations between their countries are at a crossroads and that the Philippines must act prudently in deciding which path to follow, a statement from the Chinese side said.

He accused the Philippines of provoking incidents at Second Thomas Shoal and attempting to transport supplies without China’s permission to an illegally beached ship in a bid to achieve long-term occupation of the reef, the statement said.

The Philippines separately summoned a senior Chinese diplomat in Manila to convey its protest and demand that Chinese ships immediately leave the waters around Second Thomas Shoal, which lies in the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone, and for China to stop violating international law.

Philippine defense, security and foreign affairs officials convened a meeting Monday to discuss new steps to deal with what they say is China’s unacceptable and provocative actions in the South China Sea. Their recommendations would be submitted to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and were not immediately released to the public.

Second Thomas Shoal has been occupied by a small contingent of Philippine navy and marines on a marooned warship since 1999, but has been surrounded by Chinese coast guard and other vessels in an increasingly tense standoff. It’s the second time the Philippine supply boat has been damaged by water cannon in March.

The U.S. lays no claims to the busy seaway, a key global trade route, but has deployed Navy ships and fighter jets in what it calls freedom of navigation operations that have challenged China’s claims to virtually the entire South China Sea. Beijing says the strengthening of U.S. alliances in Asia, including with the Philippines, is aimed at containing China and threatens regional stability.

Aside from China and the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan and Brunei also have overlapping claims in the resource-rich and busy waterway. Beijing has refused to recognize a 2016 international arbitration ruling that invalidated its expansive claims on historical grounds.
