SOLARIS Yacht – Exquisite $600M Superyacht

The SOLARIS yacht was newly launched in 2021 by Lloyd Werft.

At 139.7 meters (458 ft), SOLARIS is considered an absolute giant in the world of superyachts and ranks as the 15th largest in the world.

SOLARIS yacht interior

No official photos of the interior of the SOLARIS yacht have been released, so the exact design is unknown.

However, judging from the minimalist and modern layout of the decks, it can be assumed that the interior follows a similar trend.

The German designer Frank Neubelt is said to have worked on the interior of SOLARIS, although details of the project are unknown.

The yacht is one of the largest in the world, so it comes as no surprise that the SOLARIS yacht can accommodate an impressive 36 guests onboard.

Around 60 crew members find space in the cabins below deck and are available to tend to every need of the passengers.

The yacht also features a large gym, spa, and several salons to host events and welcome guests.

MY SOLARIS Specifications

MY SOLARIS was built in 2021 by the German shipyard Lloyd Werft and became the largest vessel they had ever delivered.

The total length of the yacht is 139.7 meters (458 ft) which makes her 23 meters (75 ft) shorter than Abramovic’s other famous yacht, ECLIPSE.

Her beam is 21.35 meters (70 ft), and her draft measures 5.95 meters (19.6 ft). Her total weight lies at 11,247 tons.

The SOLARIS yacht is powered by six MTU engines which allow her to travel at an average cruise speed of 18 knots with top speeds of 20 knots.

SOLARIS yacht exterior

The exterior of MY SOLARIS was designed by Marc Newson Ltd , an Australian industrial designer who has worked in several industries, including aircraft, furniture, and clothing.

His work is easily recognizable by smooth lines and rounded shapes with geometric elements.

The SOLARIS yacht is a prime example of this with its sleek look, rounded balconies, and many windows. Her eight decks have an unusually light wood that decorates the many open spaces of the vessel.

There are several extendable platforms to release tenders and toys and a large beach club located close to the swimming platform.

Of course, SOLARIS includes a full-size helipad as well as several swimming pools, one of which is located on the largest of the decks aft of the vessel.

SOLARIS yacht price

Yacht SOLARIS was delivered to Abramovic for a reported price of US $600 million, placing her among the most expensive superyachts in the world.

She generates a further US $50 – $60 million in annual running costs.

Lloyd Werft 140m Explorer Mega Yacht SOLARIS Delivered

By Jenna Mehdi

Yesterday marked the delivery of 140m luxury explorer yacht SOLARIS to her new owner. Having successfully completed sea trials, SOLARIS has departed Lloyd Werft’s yard in Bremerhaven to embark upon life after launch.

One of the most highly anticipated and reported-on launches of 2021, SOLARIS’ delivery marks the finalisation of one of the largest megayacht projects to be completed this year.

Lloyd Werft’s shipbuilding capacity was truly put to the test on this behemoth project; amongst other industry ‘firsts’, SOLARIS features over 2,000 square metres of glass and the largest ABB Azipod®  system ever installed on a superyacht.

Lloyd Werft commented on the delivery: ‘ The handover marked the successful completion of this extraordinary project, which has been realised over several years of planning and building…

A number of very individual demands, some of them never experienced before in yacht building, have been incorporated into this project.

As we did with the legendary LUNA, we have once again built a yacht of the very highest quality.’

At 140m, SOLARIS is the largest explorer yacht to ever be built. Her design is a true evolution of her predecessor and Lloyd Werft flagship 115m LUNA . The new flagship cements the German yard’s status as a leader of the 100m+ building landscape.

First Look at Billionaire Roman Abramovich’s ‘Secret’ Superyacht

A new superyacht is making waves before it’s even completed. Solaris , reported to be owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, was photographed in June 2021 undergoing testing in the North Sea.

The 455-foot-long explorer yacht has been shrouded in secrecy from the start—despite being relatively hard to hide.

With eight decks, Solaris —which can sleep 36 guests and a crew of 60—is said to have been built in a yacht shed bigger and taller than Buckingham Palace.

As for amenities, Solaris is helicopter-friendly with a landing pad and hangar, while her beach club beckons sunbathers.

With two massive, 9-megawatt electric Azipod propulsion systems, she’s expected to be one of the most powerful superyachts in the world.

Still, Solaris isn’t even the biggest ship Abraomovich owns: That honor goes to the 533-foot-long Eclipse , the second-longest yacht in the world.

Video: First look at 140m superyacht SOLARIS totally unveiled

By Nina Done   24 March 2021

New video footage of the elegant 140m  mega yacht SOLARIS reveals more of her spectacular design features following her official launch from the Lloyd Werft shipyard in February — which was slightly hampered by a case of heavy fog. She has now left the German shipyard to undergo sea trials before her expected delivery this summer.

Penned by Australian designer Marc Newson in his debut superyacht project, SOLARIS is the culmination of four years under construction where the project has been mired in secrecy. Her preparation for sea trials comes after much excitement that's rippled through the yachting industry.

140m Solaris with crane in a shipyard in Germany

The video footage reveals an aft glass-bottomed pool, 2 beach clubs, an expansive swim platform and pronounced wing stations on either side offering enhanced visibility for the captain whilst maneuvering.

In addition, floor-to-ceiling windows will allow plenty of natural light throughout her interiors, with exterior glass railings offering unique views of her surroundings whilst enjoying the alfresco entertainment.

18 megawatts of combined propulsion...will propel SOLARIS at speeds unheard of for superyachts of this size.

SOLARIS boasts a whopping 8 decks, helipad, plus hangar and generous beach club aft. She also has a tender garage equipped with a crane for launching tenders, cleverly designed to be hidden away from the main guest areas.

A black and white image of new superyacht Solaris

Her elegant appearance is accentuated by the large arch that wraps across the beam midships, providing a dramatic contrast with the sleek lines of her pale grey hull and crisp white superstructure.

Enhanced power

18 megawatts of combined propulsion delivered through two state of the art Azipods managed by an ABB Engine Management System will propel SOLARIS at speeds unheard of for superyachts of this size.

On board Solaris sailing yacht CeFeA with owner Marc Giorgetti

His father founded the family construction business but also passed on a love of boats and water. Cecile Gauert meets the Luxembourger-Italian now building his very own super-stylish sailing yachts

Marc “Gio” Giorgetti grew up in landlocked Luxembourg, but the Mediterranean is never far from his mind. For a long time now, summer sailing has been a family tradition. He has just taken delivery of his largest sailing yacht to date, an exquisite balance of performance and comfort. The 33.8-metre Solaris CeFeA , named after his three children, is a carbon-hull beauty that has reached 16 knots in 15 knots of wind.

When we speak, over Zoom, he’s just had a few days on board and he can’t wait to get back on the water. “It is absolutely fantastic and very balanced. I can hold it with just two fingers,” he says.

Giorgetti is CEO of the Felix Giorgetti construction and property company, and also the majority shareholder of Solaris Yachts, so with this new yacht his passion has become a fast-growing business.

He traces his taste for boats to family holidays on the shores of Lake Maggiore, which straddles Italy and Switzerland in the foothills of the Alps. His late father, Felix Giorgetti, had a family home in this Alpine riviera and a wooden Riva Junior with a tow line. “I spent my summers on the water,” he says. “I was in the water all the time, from morning to night, swimming, sailing, rowing and waterskiing.”

Although his ancestry is Italian, his grandfather and grand-uncle moved from Lombardy to Luxembourg in the late 19th century, seeking better opportunities for their families. The family did not speak Italian at home but as a gregarious, carefree and curious kid known as Gio – “Everyone calls me Gio,” he says – he soaked up the language during his summers on the lake and made friends with locals and tourists alike.

“We had a lot of German neighbours who came with their boats and they did not speak Italian,” he says. Whenever they had a problem of any kind, they knew who to call. He interpreted for them as they sorted out any number of issues that came between them and a sunny day on the lake.  “I learned all about the problems they had with their different boats. That’s what got me interested in them.”

And then, of course, there was his father’s boat – the Riva Junior. He remembers the thrill of holding that beautifully crafted wheel, his father looking on.  “I took turns with my dad in the evening after waterskiing and  I learned to drive it.”

He got to know Riva pretty well too. Felix Giorgetti loved boats and he developed a close relationship with the shipyard. He even became a Riva dealer in Luxembourg, selling a few Rivas in this small but affluent market. When he had to go to Riva’s headquarters in Sarnico, Lombardy, occasionally his children went along. Gio remembers standing in the shop watching the boats come together.  “It was so impressive as a child. It was more than a boat, it was exquisite furniture. It was all in mahogany wood, just fantastic.”

His appreciation for the work of the craftspeople left a lasting impression, especially since the family seems to have a knack for building things. Three generations of the Giorgetti family are behind several of the Grand Duchy’s notable buildings. Take, for example, the national theatre and concert venue, Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg. Felix Giorgetti’s construction company won the bid to build the project that had been drawn by a young and fiery French architect named Alain Bourbonnais. It turned out to be quite complex due, in part, to the personality of the architect and his choice of raw materials. The deep grey stone with white veins selected for the façade was found only in northern Italy in two quarries in an area that Felix knew well. He decided to work with the smaller and more competitive quarry on top of the hill, but it meant he had to cross the competitor’s land to reach the road. When they refused to grant him the right of way, Giorgetti built a cable car to gain access.

Gio was all of three years old when the theatre was finished in 1964 but this project left quite an impression. Every day, Felix walked his children to school past the construction site, an episode that Gio recounted with emotion in 2016 during his speech when accepting an award as one of Luxembourg’s leading business leaders from magazine Paperjam . The event was held in the very same theatre.

Construction remains the family business.  Gio and his brother, Paul, joined their father in 1986 after completing their studies and today are at the helm of Luxembourg’s largest construction company. As Luxembourg grew, so did Felix Giorgetti, which today is a diversified group of  16 businesses across several economic sectors.  One of the most recent areas of expansion is  the hospitality business, with the construction  of around 800 hotel rooms. In all, the company directly employs 1,800 people and, counting subcontractors and families, is responsible for the well-being of some 10,000 people in a country with a population of 626,000 – so it’s a very big fish in a relatively small pond.

Diversification has been a key strategy and the company is also invested in the marine sector.  Gio did not set out to own a shipyard or a boat dealership but perhaps his history predestined him to do so.

He bought his first boat, an Amel Super Maramu, in 2002, following it up three years later with an Amel 54. In 2008, he was ready to trade up again and was attracted to the Italian shipyard that built the Solaris sailing boats. The yard, which started in the early 1970s, is based in Aquileia, near Trieste in Northeast Italy. He says his ancestry was not really a factor in the decision, although understanding the language and culture made it easier for him to enjoy the experience. “In my heart, Italian and boats go together,” he says.

The yard at the time worked with a free-thinking American naval architect who knew all about designing fast hulls and winning regattas, but could also design comfortable cruising boats – the late Doug Peterson. It was with Peterson that Gio built the first of three Solaris 72s. Having cruised extensively with his family, he knew exactly how he wanted to use the boat. “I think sailing people are more passionate about boats,” he says. “They are more aware of everything.  They ask more questions. They go into every detail. In summary, they are more involved in the process.” That is certainly true in his case.

“I asked the shipyard to send me the digital files and worked on the interior design with one of my company’s architects,” he says. “I had all these ideas from living on my previous boats with my family and the yard liked them. After four months, the boss of Solaris [at the time, Alessandro Puntin] asked me if I would be interested in becoming a partner and so I bought a third of the company.”

After doing an Atlantic crossing from Tenerife to St Martin on his first 72, Gio went on to build two more Solaris 72s with naval architecture by Javier Soto Acebal. Last year, he became even more involved with Solaris Yachts, as the company’s majority shareholder. It was last year also that the company started a new power division in consultancy with Norberto Ferretti, the founder of Ferretti Group. Solaris Power has already launched the first few of the delightful lobster boats built in its Performance Boats yard in Forlì.

Gio is very much in favour of diversification but he remains committed to sailing yachts. For a time, he had his eye on Wally. “I was interested in having two brands. If you draw a parallel with the car industry, Solaris was Porsche and Wally was Ferrari,” he says.

The two companies already had a relationship since Solaris Yachts built two boats for Wally ( Barong D and Nahita ) and it seemed like a great fit. Although they came “very close” to a deal, in the end they could not reach an agreement.

Gio then resolved to do the next best thing and that was to build a yacht that would have the kind of allure and performance that Wally offered, only with more elaborate and comfortable interiors to appeal to a wider segment of the sailing market.

He decided to undertake the construction of a new flagship for Solaris’s superyacht division. For this project, he worked with Monaco Yacht Temptation (MYT) Design, whose owner, Carlo Torre, has a long history with Wally, and again with Soto Acebal as naval architect.

Gio was quite involved and visited the yard in Forlì frequently during the construction of CeFeA , the first Solaris 111. Implementing many of his ideas and some features reminiscent of his previous boat, Solaris Yachts built the new flagship in pre-peg carbon and foam, with titanium fittings, a 46-metre carbon mast and a 6.05-metre lifting keel that reduces to 3.9 metres. The sailplan, including a self-tacking jib, is easily managed by a small crew. “I did not want to compromise. I said: ‘This has to be the best boat to ever come out so far’, and I know we succeeded,” he says.

While the boat is light – 75 tonnes with 22 tonnes of ballast included – and fast, racing is not the point. “I am not a regatta guy. I prefer to have fun with friends and family on the boat. If I do a regatta, it’s for the pure pleasure of sailing.” But why not enjoy both performance and comfort? That’s the idea with this new yacht, with an owner’s cabin that is nearly 40 square metres in area, and a wide hull – 7.9 metres at its widest – for less heeling, and a large and private cockpit accessible from the owner’s cabin, allowing the owner, when not at the wheel, to have total privacy. “Now we have a performance-oriented boat with a large owner’s cabin with two bathrooms, four bedrooms and a crew area for five with generous volume. Happy crew, happy owner,” he says. “Competitors have to go to 40 metres to get the same comfort inside space-wise.”

This being the new flagship, Gio went for all the bells and whistles to set new standards but in the end it will be up to each owner to decide on the degree of comfort; it’s all bespoke.

What of the future? He’s been able to pass on his love of sailing to his children, who are on their way to joining the family business. “I am very happy and proud about that.” He hopes that he’ll be able to sail CeFeA to some of his favourite Mediterranean destinations soon before another interesting new challenge starts. As we part company, he drops a hint about a new venture. “Yes, it’s about boats again,” he says with a smile. “It’s very exciting, but more on this later.”

Roman Abramovich's superyacht Solaris heads for Turkey as oligarch Chelsea owner gets assets out of Europe

One of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's superyachts, Solaris, is heading for Turkey, while a second, Eclipse, is off the coast off Algeria. Another Russian oligarch, Andrey Melnichenko, recently had a £444m superyacht seized by Italian authorities as part of EU sanctions.

Roman Abramovich appears to be on a mission to get his assets out of Europe as sanctions tighten.

His superyacht Solaris, worth £430m, is heading south, apparently towards Turkey , after docking in Montenegro on Sunday. Previously, it had been at a repair yard in Barcelona - and had it remained there it might well have been seized by now.

Abramovich has been named on the fourth package of European Union sanctions that will see assets frozen for those Russian super rich considered to be linked to President Vladimir Putin.

Roman Abramovich's yacht Solaris was seen in the waters of Porto Montenegro in Tivat, Montenegro, on Saturday

Due to sanctions passed last week, any cash or property the Chelsea FC owner holds in the UK are now frozen. His shares on the London stock exchange cannot be sold and won't pay dividends, and he can no longer benefit from the planned £3bn sale of the club. He is also banned from entering the UK.

Abramovich's journey back to Russia

Abramovich's second superyacht, Eclipse, is off the coast of Algeria. Its closest European port is Italy - where another oligarch, Andrey Melnichenko, recently had a £444m superyacht seized by authorities as part of EU sanctions.

Turkish businessman Muhsin Bayrak claims to have met Abramovich, last week, to discuss buying Chelsea. A spokesperson for Mr Bayrak says another meeting was planned later this week.

Despite the British government freezing £3.2bn of his UK assets, including the west London club, it is thought Abramovich could still play a role in the sale, but only on the basis that he does not personally profit from it.

What is happening with the Chelsea sale?

The British government is open to a sale and wishes to minimalise impact on the club and its fans, but Chelsea is required to approach the government with a proposal before a new licence is granted. Its primary condition is that Abramovich does not financially benefit from any sale.

File photo dated 18-05-2021 of Chelsea fans in the stands stands during the Premier League match at Stamford Bridge, London. Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the UK Government, freezing the Russian-Israeli billionaire...s planned sale of Chelsea.Chelsea will be given a special licence to continue operation, but the sale of the Stamford Bridge club is now on hold. Issue date: Thursday March 10, 2022.

Abramovich put Chelsea up for sale on 2 March, pledging to write off £1.5bn of debt and to divert all proceeds to a new foundation to benefit victims of the war in Ukraine .

The government sanctioned him, claiming to have proved his direct links to Mr Putin's regime. Abramovich has always denied any association.

On Tuesday, a further 370 new sanctions were announced by the UK government - bringing the total to more than 1,000 individuals, entities and subsidiaries now under the Russia sanctions regime since the invasion of Ukraine.

Nigel Huddleston, the minister for sport, told a committee of MPs: "We are working with Chelsea and the fans that the measures we have put in place primarily impact Roman Abramovich and make sure he does not benefit, whilst making sure that where possible we can reduce the impact on the fans and make sure Chelsea can still continue.

"Can the government allow an entity to fail? Yes, it can, whether it's sport or football or anything else, but what we want to do is make sure the impact of sanctions hits those we want."

Looking to the future, he told the digital, culture, media and sport select committee: "We do recognise there is a need for further refinement and more robust owners' and directors' tests and the integrity element of that is something that is being pushed."

Which Superyachts Belong To Which Russian Oligarchs? An Investigation

Stormy seas ahead...

Which Superyachts Belong To Which Russian Oligarchs? An Investigation

News just broke that Italy has joined Germany and France’s crusade against superyachts , with Russian billionaire businessman Alexey Alexandrovits Mordaschov’s €65m “Lady M Yacht” being seized in Imperia (Liguria) – a crescent-shaped region in northern Italy – over the weekend in compliance with the recent EU sanctions.

Previous to this, The Dilbar, a 512-foot, $600 million yacht owned by sanctioned Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov, being kept in Germany, had work being done on it halted in the wake of the sanctions, and French authorities  seized a massive yacht they say is linked to Igor Sechin , a Russian billionaire who previously served as Russia’s deputy Prime Minister (and who is apparently known in Russian business circles as “Darth Vader”), and who is CEO of state oil company Rosneft.

In light of all these seizures (and amidst the rumours that The Flying Fox belongs to Jeff Bezos, when it really doesn’t), we thought we’d come up with a list of which superyachts belong to which Russian billionaire. Get ready to feast your eyes.

Price: $96 million AUD, or $75 million AUD (depending on which sour c e you believe)

my solaris yacht owner

Russian billionaire Alexey Alexandrovits Mordaschov owns the “Lady M Yacht” which was recently reportedly seized in Northern Italy. A 56 year old Russian billionaire businessman, Mordaschov is Russia’s richest man (even, apparantly, richer than Putin) and he has investments ranging from London-listed travel giant Tui to the ‘personal bank’ of senior Russian officials (according to The Guardian ). He is also the main shareholder and chairman of Severstal, Russia’s biggest steel and mining company.

The Lady M Yacht is 65 metres long, fits 12 guests in 6 cabins, 14 crew in 7 cabins, was built in 2013 by Palmer Johnson and was designed by Nuvolari Lenard. The Lady M Yacht has a top speed of 28 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots. It has an annual running cost of $4-5 million USD ($5-6 million AUD). Lady M Yacht has a Norwegian-built Windy Dubois SR52 tender, called Little M, and naturally, a helipad.

Lady M Yacht was probably named after Mordaschov’s second wife. Media advisor to Italy’s Prime Minister, Ferdinando Giugliano, has said Lady M Yacht is 65 million euros ($96,369,809 AUD). Superyacht Fan however says its price is $55 million USD ( 37,103,056 euros), which equates to $75,019,285 AUD.

This bad boy, built in 2020 (and delivered in 2021) also belongs to Russia’s richest man – Alexey Alexandrovits Mordaschov. The 141.6-metre Nord was designed with the intent to “cause strong emotions in every observer” via its sheer size and stunning design (by Italian design studio Nuvolari-Lenard, who gave Nord a bow design never before seen on a yacht. The Nord has an exhaust after treatment system, which hugely reduces nitrogen (by 97%) and noise.

Owned by: Kremlin-aligned Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov

The Dilbar, the world’s biggest yacht measured by interior volume, was launched in 2016 at an estimated US $648 million ($882,922,680 AUD). Five years later, its owner, Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, sent the vessel to a German shipyard for a retrofit reportedly costing another couple of hundred million dollars.

Forbes  recently reported that the Dilbar had been seized in Germany, working off the information of three sources. They since issued a correction stating that the Ministry for Economy and Innovation in Hamburg says the authorities have not seized the Dilbar, but rather work on the ship has been halted.

“Three sources had told  Forbes  it had been seized, but a representative for Usmanov cited the statement from the ministry in Hamburg to confirm that it had not. In its statement, the ministry elaborated that the German federal customs agency is the ‘responsible enforcement authority’ and would have to issue an export waiver for the yacht to leave, and that ‘no yacht leaves port that is not allowed to do so.’”

The Dilbar is 156 metres long, houses 36 guests in 18 cabins (and 84 crew in 40 cabins), was built by Lurssen and was designed by Espen Oeino. The Dilbar has a top speed of 22.5 knots and an annual running cost of $50-80 million USD.

According to the BBC , Amore Vero was seized by French authorities last Wednesday, when customs officers noticed that it was “taking steps to sail off urgently.”

“It arrived in in the Mediterranean port of La Ciotat in January and had been due to stay there while being repaired until 1 April,” the BBC reports.

“It has also been reported that yachts belonging to five other Russian billionaires were heading to the Maldives, regarded as a safe home because it does not have an extradition treaty with the US,” ( BBC ).

Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich is adding a second superyacht to his fleet

The world’s billionaires have to think big when it comes to spending their immense wealth. So for Roman Abramovich, the businessman, politician and owner of Chelsea Football Club, one superyacht clearly isn’t enough, as he’s now added a second vessel to his collection.

The new addition, the £430 million Solaris, is soon set for completion. Finished in light grey, the Times reports that she’s a sprawling 460ft in length, complete with eight decks, and is thought to include lavish features like an outdoor beach club, gym, lift, helipad, swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna.

Roman Abramovich's new superyacht will cost him 430million

Vast as she is, Solaris will be but the little sister to Abramovich’s other superyacht, Eclipse. At a staggering 500ft, Eclipse was dubbed the world’s longest private yacht upon her delivery in 2010. It’s rumoured that her extensive features encompass a beauty salon, dance floor and even a missile detection system. Following a round of refurbishments in 2015, she’s thought to have a value of around £1 billion.

Yet Solaris is reportedly tipped to become ‘the yacht of the year’ once she’s launched, with a source telling the Sun : ‘Details are being kept top secret but she will be a magnificent addition for the owner. To give you an idea of the size of Solaris the yacht shed she is being built in is bigger and taller than Buckingham Palace so you have some idea of the dimensions.’

Arise Lady Starmer? Everything we know about the elusive First Lady in waiting

Solaris is under construction at the Lloyd Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven. On her completion, she’s expected to have 48 cabins, accommodating up to 36 passengers and a crew of 60, with two advanced engines that will render her the most powerful yacht in the world. The Times adds that the engines are low-emission, low-vibration Azipods (a type of electrical transmission marine propulsion unit), thought to be the most powerful of their kind. Solaris is reportedly set to undergo trials in the sea before the summer, ahead of her delivery later this year.
