The Selene 92 “Ocean Explorer” is the result of an International collaboration of designers and architects under Howard Chen’s design team leadership. Working closely with renowned Dutch architect Guido De Groot and a group of International consultants we have developed a contemporary take on the long range yacht whilst capitalizing on builder Jet Tern Marines quality construction and reputation for experience and innovation in the displacement yacht sector.

A first look at the 92 shows a number of the Selene family traits with her powerful raised pilothouse, Portuguese bridge, and bulbous bow. But a contemporary twist is also apparent in the addition of the large side windows in the hull and Stainless anchor pockets.

She is sure to appeal to existing owners and big boat enthusiasts alike and takes the simple and proven concept of the fuel efficient and seaworthy long range yacht to a new level of luxury that is intended to compete directly with the finest European yards but with all of the advantages of GRP.

A Long-Range Cruiser is Born

Selene 92 trawler yacht

Selene Yachts, which is known for building trawlers from 49 to 62 feet, is working on a 92-foot explorer yacht that is scheduled for delivery in spring 2015.

The Selene 92 is designed by Guido De Groot of The Netherlands and is being built in China by Jet Tern Marine. De Groot’s previous projects are widely varied and have included the 234-foot Feadship Utopia , the 136-foot AB Yachts My Toy and the 118-foot Perini Navi Gitana .

Design details on the Selene 92 will include a raised pilothouse, a Portuguese bridge, a bulbous bow, large side windows and stainless-steel anchor pockets, all intended to make the yacht comfortable during extended offshore cruising. Full specs have yet to be released, but she is being promoted as a fuel-efficient, long-range yacht. Her renderings are being shown with a spicy, brick-red hull.

The arrangements plans show a four-cabin layout with all staterooms on the bottom deck. They include a full-beam master amidships, a forepeak VIP with a walkaround double berth, and two staterooms with twin beds. There is an additional cabin abaft the engine room for crew, accessed via the stern.

• The Selene Advantage

Selene yachts are not production boats, but semi-custom, handcrafted, solid vessels that are available to you at comparable production boat pricing.

There is a big difference between a recreational “trawler” and a true ocean going passagemaker like a Selene. The ability to power with confidence across any sea or ocean in safety and comfort is chief among reasons experienced boaters go to Selene, whether their adventures are coastal, global or somewhere in between.

The differences include stronger hulls, watertight bulkheads and doors, full skeg protected propeller and rudder, backup bilge pumps, large scuppers, continuous duty engines, and automatic engine room fire extinguisher systems.

We design and build our yachts, in our factory from the first drum of resin and roll of cloth to the upholstery of the salon! We don’t subcontract the work to a third-party “partner shipyard” like many other brands. We have built over 400 yachts to date.

Howard Chen continues to remain intimately involved with every project and likes nothing better than coming up with new ideas to refresh his designs. If you decide to buy a new Selene yacht you can be sure that it will come with very personal attention from Howard and his staff.

FIRST CLASS SYSTEMS

Knowing that a Selene Yacht owner often has to be both the captain and engineer of the vessel, we have invested a lot of time in the design of our engine rooms, which are regarded in the industry as best in their class with good access, plenty of room to work around the systems, with ease of maintenance and service in mind.

We install only first class electrical brands for batteries, generators, inverters, chargers, light fixtures, etc. Our engineering team is always ready to assist our owners in the sizing of their yacht’s electrical system with the desired level of redundancy depending on how the yacht is going to be used.

Please note that Selene Yachts specifications or drawings mentioned on the Selene official website are non-contractual and may be modified by our engineering architectural and engineering teams in our constant endeavour to improve the quality, reliability, safety and comfort of our yachts.

The design incorporates the fuel efficiency of a full-displacement hull. A full-displacement hull is designed to remain fully in the water throughout its entire range of speed. This requires a fraction of the horsepower that semi-displacement or planing hull requires to attain optimum speed. A full-displacement hull will be capable of maintaining speeds in the 7- to l2-knot range while burning a minimum of fuel.

SAFETY AND COMFORT

◊ A Portuguese bridge and high bulwarks for the safety of everyone on board.

◊ Forward raked windows in the pilothouse make for better visibility in sun or rain and provide greater head room at the helm, not to mention a commanding view.

◊ Beautiful cabinetry with teak or cherry wood.

◊ Large storage spaces for spare parts and provisioning.

◊ Escape hatches in critical locations.

◊ Solid hull lamination under the waterline, no foam, no core.

◊ Covered aft deck, cockpit and side decks.

◊ Optional hardtop on the flybridge.

◊ High quality stainless-steel equipment, installed on our yachts, is fabricated in our workshops with premium polished 316 steel.

Two important events saw the Mangusta Maxi Open by the prominent Italian builder Overmarine again protagonist on the nautical scene: Marine Max exclusive partner for the United States attended the Palm Beach Boat Show , running from March 22 to 25 with the spectacular motor yacht Mangusta 92 and the Mangusta 130 superyacht on display. Burevestnik Group, on the other hand, was the star of the Moscow International Boat Show , taking place from March 20 to 25 exhibiting the scale models of the luxury yacht Mangusta Oceano 148, the superyacht Mangusta 92, the Mangusta 165 as well as Mangusta 130 yachts.
