Kingsbarn Realty Capital and London Boat Rentals of Long Beach Launch Crown Yacht Cruises

Crown Yacht Cruises will begin operations in July 2021 in Alamitos Bay with boats operated by personnel contracted through London Boat Rentals.

LONG BEACH—Kingsbarn Realty Capital, a real estate private equity and development firm based in Las Vegas, in a joint venture with London Boat Rentals of Long Beach has launched a new boat chartering company based in Alamitos Bay, Long Beach, called Crown Yacht Cruises. The company will begin operations later this summer, offering chartered yacht excursions from Alamitos Bay to ports along the California coast and day trips and weekend ventures to Avalon.

Crown Yacht Cruises’ vessel the Black Cat , a Samana 59 sailing catamaran from  Fountaine Pajot , a French boat builder, was delivered May 26 to the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club for mooring. The 59-foot, tri-level, double hull vessel has six bedrooms and crew accommodations.

Beginning in July, the Black Cat will be docked in front of Alamitos Bay Landing adjacent to the new Ballast Point Brewing Company, which will serve as its permanent home. Ballast Point will provide food and beverage services through Crown Yacht Cruises concierge services. The vessel will be available for nightly bottle service in three separate locations onboard.

London Boat Rentals has operated out of Alamitos Bay Harbor since 2015 and currently has 28 vessels including Yamaha Wave-Runners, Duffy boats, and a Boston Whaler fishing boat with plans to expand to additional southern California harbors soon.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO RENT / DRIVE A BOAT?

You must be 18 yrs. of age or older in order to rent or operate any of our vessels. Anyone born after September 1st, 1993 must have a Texas Boater Education Certificate issued by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department from www.boat-ed.com . If you were born before September 1st, 1993 you do NOT need a Boater’s Safety Certificate. However, all drivers need a valid Driver’s License. Please have a physical copy to present to the dock manager at the time of your booking. Please note, this course can take at least 2 to 3 hours to complete. We recommend completing it at least 3 hours prior to the time of your reservation.

PLEASE NOTE

• Submitting a reservation and failing to complete/obtain the Texas Boater Safety Card will result in forfeiture of all monies paid and cancellation of the reservation with no future rescheduling. It is your responsibility to obtain the card.
• Swimming is at your own risk.
• Life jackets/vests MUST be worn at all times when in the water, no exceptions.
• All watercraft drivers must stay at least 100 feet away from any other watercraft, docks, shorelines during entire time of rental.

Dragon Boat Regatta is back this year. See what to expect

A fun, centuries-old watersports competition will be back for 2024 as the Madison County Chamber of Commerce hosts the 11th Dragon Boat Regatta, Saturday, May 11, at Ridgeland’s Old Trace Park.

A traditional Chinese activity for over 2,000 years, dragon-boat racing began as a modern international sport in Hong Kong in 1976.

Each boat is a light-weight, human-powered watercraft with a colorful dragon head mounted on the bow. One of the 12 animals which make up the traditional Chinese zodiac, the dragon is considered a mythical creature in Chinese culture.

The Chamber first brought the activity to Madison County in 2008, according to president Buck Covington.

“Even the first one was very successful, and as we went forward it grew and grew,” Covington said.

By 2019 the event was drawing up to 4,000 people to the reservoir annually, but when the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 it had to be canceled.

“I had the good fortune to be president of the Chamber back when we organized the first regatta and when I was named vice-president again last year I made it my priority to bring it back for 2024. It’s just an amazing event,” Covington said. 

The fun begins with a “Paddlers Party” from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, at Shaggy’s on the Rez featuring music by DJ Adam. Then the race gets underway Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. continuing until 3 p.m.

Each dragon boat will have a 22-member team: a steerer, a drummer and 20 paddlers. The steerer, which is a professional position, works at the rear of the boat operating a large oar to guide the boat left or right. The paddlers, which under rules of the competition, must include at least eight females, propel the boat in rhythm using large paddles; and, the drummer, who sits at the bow, leads the paddlers using a rhythmic drumbeat to indicate the frequency and synchronization of all the paddlers’ strokes.

Each team must also include four alternates, and the minimum age for participation is 16.

In the first heat, Covington said up to four boats would be competing along the designated course on the reservoir. The team paddling the boat that finishes first will then advance to the second heat, up against a new set of competitors. 

Each team will represent a different business, government organization or non-profit group. The standard registration cost for a team is $1,500 or an individual rower may register for $75 and will be assigned to a team. Proceeds will be used to benefit Madison Countians Allied Against Poverty, a nonprofit organization that provides food and other services for more than 700 impoverished families in the county.

Although the event was on hiatus for four years, defending champions from 2019 were the Ridgeland Fire Department, and Fire Chief Matthew Bailey has promised to bring back his team this year to defend their title.In addition to providing a fun, family-oriented competition, the regatta helps build comradery and cooperation among employees of any business or organization.

“It’s a great event for teaching teamwork,” Covington said.

The actual boats, along with officials and other services, will be provided by GWN Dragon Boat based in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada (just outside of Toronto). The firm promotes itself as North America's premier dragon boat event producer with a world-class fleet of equipment and a global reputation for executional excellence. 

In addition to the racing event, festivities will include food trucks, a Kids Zone, Marketplace Shopping, a VIP Area, wellness village, networking opportunities and more. 

Tickets for the Paddlers Party are $50 for individuals or $75 for two. VIP passes during the regatta start at $30 and will include all-you-can-eat crawfish, seafood, BBQ, beverages, private portable rest rooms, a cooling tent and front-row viewing at the finish line with wrist band access.

Assisting Covington with organizational duties for the regatta will be Madison County Chamber staff members Vicki Tate and April Hurley, as well as a host of volunteers.

Galveston, Lake Conroe among the most popular boating cities in Texas, boat rental service says

T he Houston area is home to some of the best places to go boating in Texs Lake Conroe and Galveston are ranked among the top five of the most popular boating cities in the state, according to  data from the boat rental service Getmyboat.com.

Lake Conroe ranks fourth while Galveston ranks fifth in the Getmyboat rankings with Austin slotting in at No. 1.

Getmyboat used data from its boat rental service to calibrate its rankings. That includes locations where boats are registered, number of rentals and length of the rentals.

The list's top 10 are primarily towns in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, but four of the top five areas are outside of North Texas. In addition to Austin at No. 1, Canyon Lake in Hill Country comes in at No. 2.

The average hourly rate to rent a boat in Lake Conroe is $114, with an average trip price of $482 for the service. As for Galveston, it's only $107 per hour with an average price of $325.

Crown Yacht Charters is the worst company we have ever chartered from. The four of us are experienced sailors having cumulatively chartered nearly 30 times all over the world and owned our own boats. Often there is a problem on a charter, always repaired promptly, but not at Crown. We have never given a charter company a bad review even though we have chartered from first- second- and third-echelon companies. Crown is simply not prepared to adequately maintain and promptly repair problems with their boats. All systems in this boat required electricity, right down to the toilet flush. The house battery bank failed on day three despite extra charging time. We discovered that Crown had no chase boat, no interest in diagnosing the problem, and had to order new batteries. On day eight, we were required to return to the base's island for battery replacement--five hours out of the way--and after a week on a crippled boat. For most of our trip, we were never sure we could raise the anchor or flush a toilet. For our trouble, we received two days reimbursement of our 10-day trip and that only after pressing the owner who wanted to 'think about it.'

Crown is simply not prepared to adequately maintain and promptly repair problems with their boats. All systems in this boat required electricity, right down to the toilet flush. The house battery bank failed on day three despite extra charging. We were required to return to the base's island for battery replacement on day eight--five hours out of the way and a week on a crippled boat--as Crown had no chase boat and had to order new batteries. For most of our trip, we were never sure we could raise the anchor or flush a toilet. For our trouble, we received two days reimbursement of our 10-day trip and that only after pressing the owner who wanted to 'think about it.'

We just returned from a magnificent yacht chartering experience thanks to Mr. Larry Dent of Crown Yacht Charters in Anacortes. From the initial phone call, through the personalized boat handling training I asked for to the actual charter itself it was all perfectly executed by Mr. Dent and his crew at Crown Yacht Charters. I was favorable impressed with the mechanical condition and cosmetic appearance of the two boats I was exposed to. They care about their equipment and it shows! We spent four absolutely perfect days on their 36' Selene and had a most excellent time. The boat was immaculate and the weather was beautiful (the first one they control, the second they can't). At every opportunity Crown Yacht Charters met or exceeded our expectations; especially when a minor technical glitch came up early in process (through no fault/emission or error on their part). Crown Yacht Charters stepped up and took care of us. If you are in the market to charter out of Anacortes and are looking for an experienced, friendly, knowledgeable, responsible, and courteous charter company with great boats to offer then give Crown Yacht Charters a call. This company takes advantage of yacht owners in order to benefit themselves and their clients. Many yacht owners with vessels in service with Crown Yacht Charters, never see any income from the charters as the funds get manipulated and funneled back into the pockets of the owner Larry Dent or spent on yacht equipment, service or upgrades to the yachts not authorized my owners, for the benefit of the charter company. Some may experience a good trip, but owners considering listing your vessel with CYC should think twice and there is control by CYC to insure that no or little income will ever go to the yacht owner.

Larry, Sara, and the team are the ultimate professionals. We recently returned from our awesome San Juan boating vacation aboard the "Harmony." We had a great boat, great weather, and a great time. Unfortunately, some debris got tangled in the boat's running gear. Crown Yacht Charters completed economical repairs and (unexpectedly) sent me a partial refund of the damage deposit. Crown Yacht Charters is the best! We will definitely charter from them again!

Me and my husband had a great time doing a two-hour evening ride. You can bring your own drinks and play your own music, but the best part is really taking in the views. Everything was great from start to finish. Booking online was simple and you can fill out the waivers online ahead of time. I would definitely recommend this experience!

Very nice for a friends outing or date night! We went late afternoon/early evening and it's still pretty hot (late June) but once we took off it was cooler with a breeze. Enjoy the ride and take in great views along the Potomac. It's BYOB and you can connect your music to the boat's Bluetooth. Overall great time and our driver Jafari waited for us even though we were late. Make sure to use your phone for accurate directions, you'll walk though a tall gate past an office to get to the docks. We got a Little confused at first.

Have to show some love to this innovative company that popped up at the perfect time. A tiny pod on a tiny boat trying to celebrate a protracted Halloween, we wondered how we can show off our cute outfits but also stay safe and distant....enter....Yachtsy.
