We recently purchased a 06 Regal express cruiser from Mickey with Backwater marine and yacht sales. With the help of Jeff and Jenny We had a smooth transaction. This is our first boat and they’ve been very helpful and even assisted us with a minor mechanical repair. They stand behind their boat sales and I recommend purchasing a boat with this group!

I asked Kyle Davis, a broker for the company, for assistance in selling my 20 year old cabin cruiser, after unsuccessfully trying to sell it for six weeks on Boat Trader. He did a market analysis and gave me a reasonable value for which to offer the boat, which was significantly more realistic than my inflated value. He recommended I try to sell it myself at the new lower value, and if I couldn’t sell it myself, he would try.I was able to sell the boat at the price he advised, and offered to pay him a consultants fee of his choice, which he declined.I believe he acted in my best interests and at the detriment to his own interests. He showed true professionalism, and concern for the best interests of his clients.I highly recommend him and his company.

Kyle is the real deal.I know nothing about engines. I would not be able to pick a mechanically sound vessel on my own. I purchased a 2002 SeaRay Sundancer 300 from Backwater on a roll of the dice.What I have learned is that these guys know how to pick a boat that is mechanically strong and reliable. For someone like me, buying a boat from Kyle is a no brainier because you can count on them doing the due diligence. In fact, 3 months after the sale, Kyle is still helping me to learn how to take care of my beautiful new (to me) boat!I took a risk buying a boat from a company I didnt know..... Purchased a boat from Kyle Davis in October 2019 on eBay from Backwater-marine. Flew to Florida to meet Kyle and my Surveyor. On the sea trial noticed a vibration at speed Kyle agreed to fix the vibration.He indicated that he bumped the propellers while loading boat on a trailer. That he would send them off for repair. I ask Kyle if it could have also affected drive shafts his response was that they would punch through the boat first.My wife and I flew to Ft Myers to use the boat after repair were thought to be completed.Vibration still there and worse. I contacted Kyle to discuss the issue. He sent a mechanic to marina to assess the problem, cutlass bearings in both drive shafts were shot and starboard drive shaft has a wobble when shifting.Enter Micky:I get a call from a Micky Franklin, Kyle’s partner he wants me to pay ½ the bill because I got the boat so cheap, I argued that Kyle agreed to fix the vibration that it was written on the sales invoice. He wanted me to forward the sales agreement his company provided me. They seemed a very unorganized.Micky ask that I get prices to repair I contacted two marinas one was Marine Max in Ft. Myers they are a sea ray dealer. The service manager said it sounds like I also have a bent drive shaft. I forwarded information to Micky. After a couple weeks of hearing nothing, I texted Micky in hopes of being able to use the boat at some point.Here is the text received from Micky:“Oh you must not of gotten the email I’m not going to pay for anything on your boat I looked at the contract and you lied to me sir are you said That Kyle put on the contract vibration and I pulled the contract finally waiting on you to send it after digging it up it said that we would only do the props it never said anything about the vibration you got a great deal on that boat I’m not gonna argue with you over it but we are not paying a dime sorry It is a used boat and you got a fantastic deal and you actually stole the boat. I don’t use that word very much but that’s exactly what you did so if you got a put a couple thousand into it you’re still walking away with a boat it’s got a $10,000 profit sitting in it still maybe even more”He was right about one thing the sales invoice said Props.Be very cautious when using these guys especially if they feel you got a deal.Now is over 3 months of paying for storage for a boat not safe to move waiting for a mechanic to repair.I will be seeing both of them in court.One last comment, watch their eBay they claim no reserve auctions but somehow the boats keep being relisted with active bidders sometimes 3 or 4 times you figure it out.Not sure where they get their info,1. Paid over $70,000 not $65,000.2. They claim I didn’t have a survey, yes the surveyer was along on the sea trail.3. Micky claims are all over the board as to values. In the text above he claimed I could make $10,000 profit to a valuation of $115,000.Surveyer valuation clean $87,500.It’s just a shame when your on a sea trail and you feel a vibration, you can get lucky and it be fairly minor or very serious. For me at was definitely a deal breaker due to the unknown.Now because they thought it was props and they wrote props on the invoice they feel it’s ok to stick me with it. With these guys don’t trust but verify.

Let me start by saying I’ve never owned a boat before and was upfront with Kyle about my needs and wants for our family’s first boat. Well he found us the perfect Boat and our 4th of July was spent on the water!!!! We are extremely happy with Kyle @ BackWater Marine ....

After dealing with this company and this owner, I would caution everyone to RUN! DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY! I am a Yacht Captain with over 20 years in the Marine industry. Ive also owned and built several personal vessels. I recently purchased three used outboards from Blackwater Marine. The terms of the contract were clearly written and signed by the owner (see photo). When the outboards arrived several components were missing, including one top cowling, steering units, and two other pieces of cowling. Worst of all, one of the engines has a rusty spark plug and extremely low compression. These factors prove that no leak down test was done and no compression test was done. The contract clearly states that these tests, if found satisfactory, were conditions of sale. I contacted the owner of this business, who signed the contract, only to be told that my mechanic, with over 40 years of experience, is stupid and hed be happy to deal with me court.

While eating up miles of three-to-fives at 22 mph is more an attribute of a fish boat than a high-class day boat, I’d argue that such sea-kindliness allows its owner to head to that special island, cove or sandbar on marginal days when many boats will be staying inside. In short, this party boat gives you more days to party. Interviewing Monterey’s design team, I learned that the reasons for the 328SS Anniversary’s great ride go beyond its simply having a deep-V hull. Extra pains were taken to make the keel extra-sharp, which is harder to mold but better for tracking and soft landings. Additionally, the displacement-to-bottom-area ratio was refined, Monterey carefully distributing weight over the wetted surface that supports the boat while on plane. And an in-depth weight study was performed, resulting in placing the longitudinal center of gravity in just the right spot. All of this combined to make a boat that isn’t slowed much by a head sea, climbs following seas like a mountain goat, tracks wonderfully (even with waves quartering from astern, the toughest condition in which to maintain a course) and, perhaps best of all, provided the test with that intangible experience of balance, of feeling as one with the boat while at the helm and charging along in the whitecaps. Hull design is largely based on the successes of the past, with many new boats riding tried-and-true old hulls. That’s fine, and it makes good business sense. But the 328SS Anniversary proves the merit of taking things a bit further, evolving the shape rather than resting on drawing-board laurels. Monterey pulled no stops in designing the rest of the 328SS Anniversary either. The hallmark edge styling — in which corners and straight lines, rather than radiuses and swoops, create a dramatic interplay of light and shadow — lends the 328SS Anniversary an aggressive stance when viewed in profile. This philosophy is applied to more than just the prominent lines like sheer, stem and rake of the windshield. Grab rails, bow rails, fiddle rails and windshield support rails are square in section. Insets and recesses, such as those for stereo speakers or drink holders, also feature edge styling. There’s the base of the radar arch, the wet-bar inlay, the engine vents — heck, even the stitched tufting of the upholstery reinforces the theme. The sum is a powerful visual impact. A stainless-steel windshield frame is standard, and led accent lights are installed in the engine vents, around the platform and around the perimeter of the aft lounge. The helm seat hardware is lustrous stainless — in a place where so many builders use cheaper powder-coated metal — and so are the cleats, embossed with Monterey’s marque. There’s plenty of sparkle day or night aboard the 328SS Anniversary. The boat incorporates all the details you’d expect from an outsize bowrider, and some you might not have considered at all. Most prominent is the cabin within the portside console. Here hides a berth and a half, 8 feet long, with a nicely done headliner, a microwave and synthetic teak flooring. This may be a day boat, but if opportunity knocks, a couple could overnight, no sweat. The aft lounge converts to a sun pad, But here the lounge morphs into different seating/reclining/ lounging positions, rather than simply up or down. The companion bench is also a chaise — or seats three facing abeam. At the helm, it was noticed a pair of small displays bracketing the wheel. These are the accessory “switches,” though they aren’t switches in the traditional sense. Instead, Monterey fitted the 328SS Anniversary with a multiplex system that allows you to scroll through and select the functions you want to operate. You can call up any function on either display. These are wired through separate circuits for redundant reliability. Such networked switching reduces the amount of wiring and makes troubleshooting simpler. It also makes the electrical system more robust by reducing the chance of chafe or corrosion. More proof Monterey sees that the future is now: The engine controls are mounted on a nifty pedestal, and the AXIUS joystick is incorporated into the helm. I found using the ’stick at the dock more comfortable than aboard other boats, where its location seemed an afterthought. At the wet bar, I admired the way the split solid-surface lid for the sink leaves a gap in the middle. It makes it easy to scrape waste into the sink, without having to remove the buffet from the top to do so. Beneath are stowage and the refrigerator. Forward, I liked the anchor setup, with its chute and scuff plate. More stainless. Better still, there is a chain stop to take the strain of the windlass drum, a feature many boats lack. The bow lounge itself is capacious, offering seating without knee-knocking your crewmates, and armrests for longer lounging sojourns. Monterey couldn’t have come out with a better boat than the 328SS Anniversary to commemorate a quarter-century of boatbuilding

Heck, the only thing keeping it from being a legitimate weekend cruiser is overnight accommodations. Or maybe not.
