1. sailors exchange – florida.

Sailors Exchange is based in St Augustine, Florida, and is a treasure trove of discounted marine parts and equipment.

They buy direct from the manufacturers, but will also buy – and barter – with private individuals. So if you want to swap your electrical panel for a windshield, they’re well worth a call.

There’s both a store and a nearby warehouse. And they have an eBay store where you can browse their stock.

If you’re looking for something specific, just give them a call. If they don’t have it, they can usually order it for you for delivery in a few days.

2. Don’s Marine Surplus and Salvage – Florida

Don’s Marine Surplus and Salvage is based on the Gulf Coast of Florida . They’ve been in business for more than 30 years, so they know what they’re doing.

They provide both new and used parts. Email them if you’re looking for a particular part, and they’ll do their best to get it for you. Include the make, model and year, plus measurements and photos if you have them.

They buy and sell complete boats too. Visitors are welcome at their yard in Clearwater, which is open six days a week and closed on Sundays.

3. Sailorman – Florida

Sailorman claim to be the largest – as well as the most unique – emporium for marine parts on the planet. Drop in at their store in Fort Lauderdale, or use the form online to look for a particular part. They’ll ship anywhere in the world.

They specialize in parts that are hard to find. If they don’t have it already, they can usually order it. And if you have something to get rid of, either sell to them direct or use their consignment service. More information on how it all works is available on the website.

4. Yacht Salvage – Rhode Island, Massachusetts, South Carolina

Yacht Salvage have sites in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and South Carolina. They sell, broker and purchase salvage boats. And if you want your old boat to help a good cause, you can donate it to a selection of charities.

They also offer certified transportation services to get your boat cross-country. And they sell repossessed boats, making them a great place to find a bargain. Many boats are sold at auction, and you’ll need to complete a bidding form to make your offer.

5. 411Marine / ABC Motors & Marine – South Carolina

Whether you’re looking to donate or recycle your boat, or need parts or repairs, ABC Motors & Marine can help. They’re based in Hardeeville, South Carolina, and 411Marine is their online e-commerce outfit.

Appointments at the yard are available outside normal opening hours. Call or email to set something up.

But if you’re looking for a specific part, your best bet is to email them. Provide as many details as possible – manufacturer, model, measurements and so on. Photographs will be a big help if you have them. Both new and used options are available.

6. Bull’s Marine Salvage – North Carolina

You’ll find Bull’s Marine Salvage in Winston Salem, North Carolina. But if you’re reasonably local and have a boat to get rid of, they’ll come to you to take a look. As long as some parts are salvageable, they’ll take it and offer you a reasonable price.

Anything that can be recycled, will be, minimizing waste going to landfill. Any parts that can be salvaged will be overhauled and sold on with a new warranty.

That also means they’re a great place to find reliable parts at discount prices. And they stock new parts too.

7. Boat Recyclers of Wilmington – North Carolina

North Carolina’s Boat Recyclers of Wilmington provide a wide range of reconditioned parts at keen prices. Manufacturers on offer include Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Johnson, Mercury and Evinrude. And they’ll buy pretty much any used boat or motor at a fair price.

They also provide a wide range of repair and maintenance services, including bottom repainting and winterization.

8. Minney’s Yacht Surplus – California

Minney’s Yacht Surplus has been a family business for over 60 years. They offer a wide range of new and used parts, as well as a fascinating and ever-changing selection of marine antiques. The inventory is updated regularly on the website.

The team is small, so opening hours are variable. They’re usually open between 9am and 4pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays only. It’s a good idea to email ahead to check someone will be there.

9. San Diego Boat Movers – California

As their name suggests, San Diego Boat Movers are primarily focused on transporting vessels. But they also offer a range of other services, including disposal of abandoned boats.

Josh’s Watercraft is a family-owned business in Rochester, Illinois. Opening hours are seasonal – they’re closed throughout January and February – so check the website before you visit.

15. Resolve Alaska – Alaska

Shipping in remote western Alaska has its own distinct challenges. And Resolve Alaska is perfectly placed to handle them.

The firm deals with everything from salvage to welding, general ship repair to construction. They even conduct diving operations. And they’ve been running their Dutch Harbor shipyard and dry dock for over 40 years.

Island Marine Salvage in Oregon is a one-stop-shop for buying, selling and trading boats and parts. The business has been running for over twenty years. If you’re looking for a part and they don’t have it already, chances are, they can find it for you.

The website is still under development. For up-to-date information, give them a call or send an email. Alternatively, call into the yard. It’s open from Tuesday through to Friday, from 9am to 5pm.

17. Captain Jim’s Marine Salvage – Maine

Captain Jim’s offers an eclectic range of services from its base in Portland, Maine. You can get your boat recovered and towed. And if your vessel has reached the end of its life, they can re-purpose and recycle it. Depending on what can be salvaged, they may offer you a cash payment.

18. Potomac Marine – Virginia

Potomac Marine offers fully authorized boat repair and service. They carry out towing and salvage. And you can get your hands on pretty much any replacement part you need. An online parts finder will help you track down parts from Evinrude, Johnson, Honda and Mercury.

They’re based at Neabsco Creek in Prince William County, Virginia. The facility is open from Tuesday to Friday, and for half a day on Saturday from 10 am to 2pm.

If you enjoy bargain hunting, you’ll love picking over parts at a boat salvage yard. A marine salvage yard is a place where wrecked and salvage boats go to be taken apart and recycled. Often these companies also specialize in boat removal and offer boat disposal services.

How it works

Boat junk yards buy boats that are damaged beyond repair (or no longer wanted) from boat owners and insurance companies for rock-bottom prices. Sometimes these boat scrap yards will specialize in a certain type of boat (e.g. yachts or power).

The boat junkyard then dismantles and sells the boat salvage parts to customers.

At “pick and pull” yards” you’re set loose in the yard with a screwdriver, free to climb all over the boats and pull off the pieces that strike your fancy. The deals can be outstanding.

For example, I once spent a pleasant afternoon stripping 30 lbs of Harken blocks and cleats off a grounded race boat and paid only 25 dollars for my bag of booty. That hardware could have easily cost me 10-20x at a chandlery.

What you’ll find

If it’s attached to a boat, you’ll likely find it at a salvage yard! Engines, water pumps, winches, blocks, doors, hatches, booms, masts, etc.

Sometimes you’ll find items like used sails , lines, and electronics but many owners will strip out items that can be resold before delivering the boat to the salvage yard.

• Boat salvage yards are the place to go for the best price. Their cheap parts can make your boat repairs and projects a lot more affordable. Plus, there’s no shipping cost.
• You can physically inspect the part before buying it
• Boat junk yard staff will know the history of the boat and how this will affect the quality of the parts. For example, boat parts from freshwater boats tend to be in better shape than parts from saltwater boats. How the boat was damaged may also affect your decision to buy a part. For example, you might not want to buy rigging hardware from a boat that lost its mast. However, buying a boom from a boat with fire damage might be fine.

For example, we once walked into a boat consignment store with three old sails we didn’t want and came out with a captain’s chair, a spinnaker pole , and $100 in cash. It’s a great way to turn your boat clutter into useful gear.

Search online to find a wide selection of parts and have them shipped right to your door.

Be sure to read the fine print and understand who the seller is. Sometimes it’s a company selling parts, in which case the parts have usually been inspected and tested. In other cases, the parts are being sold by an individual, in which case there are really no quality standards.

You can buy anything online that you’d find at a chandlery but keep in mind it will be a lot more expensive to ship heavy parts like anchors, chain, or propellers.

OFFER PROCEDURES

Offers are accumulated weekly through each Monday at 4:00 PM ET. In the event a particular Monday is a Federal Holiday, the deadline is extended an additional 24 hours. The high offer on a particular vessel is submitted to the Seller for consideration the following business day. The Seller, at its sole option, may accept or reject with or without a counter offer. Responses typically occur within 48 hours, no response constitutes a rejection of theoffer.

Upon notification of acceptance of an offer (either verbal or electronic), successful Bidder has 1 business day to deposit into National Liquidators escrow account, the greater of 10% of Gross Offer or $1,000.

Upon notification of acceptance of an offer (either verbal or electronic), successful Bidder has 5 business days to complete any and all conditions listed above in the “Conditions Of Offer”. In any case, any remaining amounts due must be deposited into National Liquidators escrow account, within 5 business days after notification of acceptance of an offer (either verbal or electronic). Successful Bidder’s failure to fund the total offer price within 5 business days after notice of acceptance will result in forfeiture of any deposits. In these instances, the vessel will be placed back into the auction cycle.

After funding the total offer price, Successful Bidder must remove the purchased vessel from National’s storage facility within two business days or make storage arrangements with National. Storage charges will accrue on ALL purchased vessels until each is removed from National’s storage facility. Standard storage rates apply; refer to http://www.yachtauctions.com/services for currentrates.

All vessels are sold AS IS, WHERE IS, with no warranties or representations, express or implied, as to condition or fitness for a particular purpose.

NOTICE REGARDING TITLING OR US COAST GUARD DOCUMENTATION

National Liquidators makes no guarantees, representations or warranties as to title or the ability to document or register the vessel. National Liquidators are acting as a broker only and issues as to title, documentation and registration are between the Buyer and the Seller, owner or lien holder. The required $399.00 administrative fee covers National’s efforts to obtain titling and documentation information from the Seller; it does not include transfer of title or documentation to Buyer. National Liquidators can process transfer of title or documentation to Buyer an additional fee. Buyers that are interested in this service can contact National’s title department for details, including charges. Ohio Law requires National to transfer title (not USCG documentation) directly to Ohio residents only, a $150 fee is charged for this service.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SALES TAX

Purchasers must pay sales tax at the applicable rate in their respective states. Dealers that wish to be treated as tax-exempt are required to provide a state sale tax number, valid marine dealer’s certificate, sign a Resale Certificate or Statement for Exemption of Purchase, and any other required documentation.

Narrowboats

Some yachts will come with engines (Inboard or outboard) and some don’t.

We class a Motorboat as one of the following, Fishing boat, River Cruiser, Speed Boat, Cabin Cruiser, Ribs, Commercial Boat and Work Boats. As a rule it’s anything above 18ft that isn’t a yacht.

We class a narrowboat as 7ft+ wide and up to 70ft long barge that are common across the inland waterways in the UK. Usually made of Steel but sometimes in Wood.

We class a Dingy/Small Boat as anything up to 17ft. This can be a yacht or a motorboat.
