Sirena 42m Superyacht

The shipyard boasts a track record of constructing intricate vessels of the highest caliber, with their foundational model range spanning yachts from 16 to 27 meters, having garnered numerous accolades. It was a natural progression for the brand to expand their offerings to include an innovative range of superyacht models at 35 meters, 42 meters, and 50 meters, further enhancing their appeal.

Sirena Superyachts has announced that the construction of their first 42-meter model is scheduled to commence this autumn. Luca Vallebona has been appointed to oversee the exterior and layout, while the interior spaces will be designed by the Italian studio Hot Lab, a member of The Viken Group.

The design of the 42-meter Sirena Superyachts model can be customized according to the preferences of prospective owners. This includes the flexibility to position the owner’s suite on the main or upper decks, thereby enabling the creation of a dedicated dining space in the saloon, be it formal or informal. Additionally, it allows for establishing a guest area in the bow designed explicitly for exquisite dining experiences or pure relaxation.

The distinction between the interior and exterior becomes indistinguishable upon opening the sliding door at the bow of the owner’s cabin. The patio area is meticulously adorned with various elements, including a pergola, a pool, and a gracefully curved staircase that leads to the upper deck. This deliberate treatment guarantees that this secluded, unforeseen, and luminous space at the front of the boat seamlessly integrates with the overall design of the interior. Consequently, the forward cabin expands its outdoor area, resulting in a distinctive attribute within the contemporary semi-custom market.

The remaining portion of the primary deck interior area is distinguished by an aft salon that seamlessly extends to the aft pool, positioned slightly lower, and designed to maintain a harmonious connection with the exterior. The salon’s windows are strategically placed to enhance this connection, and deliberate measures have been taken to minimize the presence of lateral pillars, enabling an unobstructed horizontal view that aligns with the surrounding landscape.

“The four guest cabins are located on the lower deck, with two VIP cabins featuring transverse beds and the entire partition that separates them from the guest cabins serving as a wardrobe,” continues Luca Vallebona. “Thanks to this solution and the en-suite bathrooms that separate them from the technical areas aft (garage and engine room), sound insulation in these spaces is well taken care of. In these cabins as well, the use of curved elements alternating with more rectilinear lines is evident. In general, through the use of curves, large fillets, and dynamic walls, I wanted to create the opportunity for an interior where there is always an element that can stand out from the rest, clear and not redundant.”

Interior design studio Hot Lab has carefully selected various materials, including natural beech and oak for the sofas, cotton and chenille for upholstery, and metal with a titanium effect for the deckhead panels. This deliberate choice of materials has resulted in a color palette that is light and desaturated. According to Hot Lab, this color range welcomes and accentuates the sun’s rays that permeate every area.

The Sirena 42M’s flexible layout sets her apart from others in her class. It is designed to cater to the exact preferences of each owner with the option to include the owner’s suite on the main or upper decks. This creates the opportunity to have a dining area in the salon or a spacious guest area at the bow. There are four total lower-deck guest cabins, each offering the same level of opulence as the owner’s suite. The suggested arrangement positions the owner’s cabin at the bow for direct access to a private patio forward and the option for a Jacuzzi.

The yacht’s exterior is centered around alfresco entertainment. The sundeck dining area beckons for meals surrounded by the yacht’s cruising grounds while the large pool on the aft deck is the ideal haven for a relaxing afternoon. The 42M features fold-out bulwarks providing easy access to the water and generous storage for tenders and toys.

Sunseeker 42M Ocean: Exclusive details and pictures of superyacht project revealed

Sunseeker has released more details and new images of its most spectacular model yet, the Sunseeker 42M Ocean.

This flagship of the yard’s British-built GRP range breaks the Sunseeker mould in several ways. It’s the first to get forward-raked bridge windows, which combined with the plumb bow, vertical glazing and surprisingly aggressive profile give it a quasi-explorer look.

However, the standout feature of the new 42M Ocean is its vast beach club. Fold-down quarter-cheeks on the stern section and twin Transformer platforms that can extend out flat or lower into the water make for one of the largest beach clubs we’ve ever seen on a boat of this size.

With a clever curved cocktail bar that slides out from the transom as well as slot-in bar stools, multiple sunloungers and freestanding furniture, there’s enough room for several groups of guests to congregate here without ever feeling on top of each other. In true superyacht style there is even a side-loading tender garage for a Williams 625 and a jetski.

Two sets of teak steps lead up from this lower section of the beach club to a second split-level cockpit above. Centred around a spa tub that links the two different levels and has a glass sidewall and skylight providing a further connection with the beach club below, it adds up to the most comprehensive entertaining space of any craft this size.

As if this weren’t enough there are two further large outdoor socialising spaces, each with pools of their own. The first is the foredeck lounge which has the option of a tender crane and dock that doubles as a splash pool once the tender has been launched.

The second is on the sky deck, which sits on top of the raised skylounge but is still big enough to house a hot tub, bar, dining area and copious sunpads.

Sunseeker 161 Yacht: Fast displacement hull form explained

Sunseeker 131 yacht tour: inside a fully-fledged tri-deck superyacht.

The 42M Ocean’s bold new look is expected to appeal to a slightly younger demographic than its existing range of large yachts but also has the advantage of maximising interior volume. At 448GT its interior volume is over 30% bigger than the current Sunseeker 131 Yacht ’s measurement of 341GT. This allows for a spectacular open plan saloon and dining area on the main deck while still leaving space ahead of it for a huge master suite with a separate office, walk-in wardrobe and lavish bathroom.

The four identically sized double or twin guest suites occupy the midships section of the lower deck, while the space ahead of these is given over to a very generous crew area. With no less than four ensuite crew cabins as well as a comfortable mess area, it’s another potential game-changer; the old adage that a happy crew makes for a happy ship should make it a popular charter yacht too.

The sky-lounge aboard the 42M Ocean is another big step up from the 131. It makes use of the full beam using doors in the forward corners to give access to the side-decks that lead past the bridge and out to the raised foredeck terrace. To get from the sky-lounge to the foredeck on the 131 you need to walk through the bridge or face a long trek through the deck below and back up the steps to the raised bow area.

The interior design schemes have all been developed by Design Unlimited and feature a very cool, contemporary look with modern low slung furniture that puts the focus on the views through the floor to ceiling glazing.

The Sunseeker 42M Ocean exhibits some radical thinking by the design team from its round-bilge, semi-displacement hull to the option of a hybrid diesel electric drivetrain to help boost range and allow for silent, emission-free cruising.

The 42M Ocean’s hull features a three-quarter-keel design that has been exhaustively tested using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) as well as tank testing of a scale model at the QinetiQ facility in Haslar, the biggest free-running tank in the world. Chief Technical Officer Ewen Foster joked that the big-wave simulations were some of the best fun he’s had for ages.

Whereas the old 131 Yacht needed the bigger and heavier 3,140hp 4000 Series MTUs for a 23-knot top speed, the more efficient shape and modern build techniques of the 42M Ocean will allow it to reach a claimed maximum speed of 21 knots using a pair of MTUs more modestly proportioned 1,920hp 2000 Series M96Ls.

Large fuel tanks carrying 27,000 litres of diesel are expected to deliver a whopping range of 3,200nm at around 10 knots and 1,100rpm and well over 4,000nm at an eight-knot chug.

The first 42M Ocean is due to launch in spring 2023 and carries an estimated price tag of around £20 million. Three clients are already said to be close to signing contracts.

“Sunseeker needed to make a big statement and the new 42M Ocean does just that,” says MBY Editor Hugo Andreae. “The really clever bit is creating such a voluminous yacht that somehow still looks sleek and sporty.”

About the Sunseeker Ocean series

The new 42M will be one of three new Sunseeker models to bear the Ocean name along with its focus on outdoor living. The first to arrive, and currently the smallest of the range, will be the Sunseeker 90 Ocean, which launches imminently and is destined for a world premiere at the Düsseldorf boat show in January.

Unlike the 42M, the 90 sports a familiar Sunseeker deep-vee planing hull capable of speeds up to 30 knots, albeit with a tweaked forefoot and a little more buoyancy aft that counters the extra weight of the beach club and tender garage. The fuel tanks are also bigger than usual, as is the 1,800nm range at 12 knots.

Above the chine, the 90 Ocean is a long way removed from any previous Sunseeker with a bluff bow and an exceptionally broad beam of 23ft 6in (7.2m) creating plenty of interior volume as well as that beach club.

The third model to carry the Ocean tag is the flagship 499GT Sunseeker 161 Yacht , which has now been redesignated as the 50M Ocean. This all-aluminium Sunseeker is being built at Icon Yachts’s yard in Holland. The first of these has been signed but is still some way off completion.

All-New MJM 42 Marks the 'Evolution of a Dream'

North Carolina builder MJM yachts has unveiled an impressive cruiser for the East Coast market.

The all-new MJM 42 is a performance cruiser that will be offered with significant power in both outboard and inboard configurations.

The 42'8" LOA and 12' beam will need the added push generated by either twin 600 hp Mercury outboards or either twin Volvo 400 hp or 440 hp inboards with DPI drives .

Top speeds are expected to be about 44 knots (50 mph) depending on the power configuration.

The company refers to the 42 as the "Evolution of a Dream" that will offer a "luxury, cruising oriented performance yacht with striking exterior lines and a dynamic interior designed for liveaboard cruising."

The boat was designed by renowned engineer Michael Peters , who has an extensive portfolio with other notable brands including Chris-Craft, Bertram, Valhalla, and more.

Standout features include an impressive all-weather pilothouse, a large helm sofa and lounge (by doing away with a co-pilot station), a U-shaped dining area with a topside galley, and an oversized beach deck and transom gate.

The area below deck is highlighted by extended hull and trunk cabin windows that create generous ambient light, as well as a spacious forepeak stateroom. An open floor plan is also notable with impressive storage capacity, as well as a midship berth.

The overall design is bred from MJM reputed MJM 40 model but offers greater room, more amenities, and an enhanced hull design that further showcases the company's unique "Carolina Downeast" flared lines, minimal tumblehome, and raised trunk cabin.

Live Naples, Marco Island election updates: Collier County votes in presidential primary

1:34 p.m. | Voting at Moorings church

Moorings Presbyterian Church was seeing brisk business with voters in the first half of the day, but they were keeping their choices close to the chest.

Naples resident Jennifer Deane told my colleague Liz Freeman that she is concerned about the growth.

"I think it is inevitable, but I feel like the city itself is small enough that its charm can be contained," Deane said.

Deane declined to say who she voted for but did say she thinks the mayor's race will be close.

Linda Penniman , who is running for City Council, stopped by and said: "I feel great. Hopefully people will vote for the right people."

Mayor Teresa Heitmann came to Moorings Presbyterian and said she appreciated what voters said about the city's response after 2022's Hurricane Ian .

"I stayed at City Hall. I went on every news (segment). I knew I had to because not everyone was here to hear from me, to let them know what was going on," said Heitmann, who is running against Gary Price and Ted Blankenship , both council veterans.

12:42 p.m. | 'Speedy Delivery' for your mail ballot

If you're casting your choice via a Vote-by-Mail ballot, you have a few hours left, Collier Supervisor of Elections Melissa R. Blazier said

In the words of  Mr. McFeely  from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, on this day before the late  Fred Rogers'  March 20 birthday, it's time for "Speedy Delivery."

You have until 7 p.m. today to drop it off as a hand-delivered ballot at the Collier elections office at 3750 Enterprise Ave., Naples, or 6 p.m. at one of the satellite locations, North Collier Government Services Center, 2335 Orange Blossom Drive, Naples or Heritage Bay Government Services Center, 15450 Collier Blvd., Naples. That means for both Immokalee and Marco Island residents, it'll be more than an hour round-trip drive to your nearest spot if you leave about now in the current traffic at the moment, according to Google Maps.

Voted mail ballots will not be accepted at polling sites. Those who received a ballot in the mail and decide to vote in person should bring their ballot to their polling location to be canceled and may vote a regular ballot, Blazier said.

11:46 a.m. | Naples development issue

Folks kept shuffling in and out of St. John's Episcopal Church in Naples this morning to cast their ballots.

Naples resident Dan Glynn told my colleague Liz Freeman that he voted to keep Teresa Heitmann as mayor.

"Because I think she is the one who would work to keep the character of Naples going, to restrict undue development," Glynn said.

Resident Frank Napolitano said he's been very happy with the direction of the city but declined to say who he voted for.

"The way they handled Ian was outstanding, and that is when it counts," he said of the brutal 2022 hurricane .

Resident David Cohen said the city needs change, and he voted for mayoral candidate Gary Price.

"I'd like to see the city progress," Cohen said. "Development is good for the city."

10:49 a.m. | Getting help from Mom

At St. John's Episcopal Church in Naples, Gary Price's mother, Betty Plumeri, campaigned for her son who is running for mayor.

"I'm always optimistic, but I'm also worried. I think he is absolutely the best. He's solid in his thinking," she told my colleague, Liz Freeman.

Mayor candidate: Election 2024: Price vows to fight for property rights, advocate for residents

Long time resident Clay Cone also is for Price.

"I think his experience on the council previously and his business experience makes him the ideal choice for mayor," Cone said.

A contingent of Teresa Heitmann supporters to win another term as mayor were pitching for her.

Incumbent: Election 2024: Naples mayor promises to continue "preserving this great city' if reelected

"She's kept her promises. She got us through COVID and Ian," Susan Anderson said, the latter noting 2022's disastrous hurricane .

Heitmann's campaign has not been negative, Anderson said, that has been important to her.

"She's been positive," Anderson said of the mayor, who's also competing against Ted Blankenship , who is giving up his current council seat, in hopes of taking over the lead role.

10:10 a.m. | Don't forget your ID

The high temperature today of only the mid to upper 70s helps remind us one reason we call this home and also makes it easier to get to the ballot box. Consider that a lot of the nation this morning is in the 30s, as far south as neighboring Georgia and Alabama.

But before departing the house, don't forget your ID, Collier Supervisor of Elections Melissa R. Blazier said.

Florida law requires voters to provide picture and signature identification when voting in person, she said.

Here is a sampling of approved forms of current ID, according to Blazier: Florida Driver License, DHSMV-issued Florida ID, US Passport, debit or credit card, military ID, student ID, retirement center ID, neighborhood association ID, public assistance ID, a veteran health ID card issued by the US Department of Veteran Affairs, a Florida license to carry a concealed weapon or an employee ID issued by a Florida branch, department, agency or entity of the Federal Government, the state, a county or a municipality.

If the ID presented at the polls contains a photo, but no signature, the voter will be asked to provide an additional form of acceptable ID with their signature, Blazier said.

9:09 a.m. | No more murky skies over Marco

The murky skies of earlier this morning are giving way to sunshine and less humid temperatures as voters on Marco Island head to the polls on this first day of Spring.

My colleague J, Kyle Foster reports that Marco residents are voting on two amendments to the charter: One that would change the title of the City Council chairman and vice chairman to Mayor and vice mayor; the other to boost the salary of council members starting in fiscal year 2026-2027.

The title change would make with no changes to current powers and authority, term limits, or eligibility.  If approved, it will go into effect after the votes are certified by the Collier County Supervisor of Elections during the March 29 Canvassing Board meeting.

Council members’ salaries have remained the same since 1997 when Marco’s charter was adopted. Voters are being asked whether the annual pay should be increased for chairman to $17,200 from $9,000 and for councilors to $11,500 from $6,000. Approval also includes an annual general wage adjustment equal to the cost of living provided to city employees.

8 a.m. | The first hour of voting complete

The first hour of voting is complete today in Collier County, with 11 more to go until the precincts close at 7 p.m. so keep checking back here as we follow the day's events.

While a few of us have been distracted by the start of NCAA basketball's March Madness and how Indiana State was unfairly left out, another competition is going on at the moment with the Naples City Council.

The local election is highlighted by the matchup for mayor. My colleague Laura Layden also has been writing about council seats in play. On Marco Island, a pair of charter amendments are on the ballot.

The Presidential Preference Primary is also part of today's festivities, but only Republicans are scheduled to vote in that, according to the Collier elections office.

Folks registered as a Democrat or with a minor political party or with no affiliation at all don't get to play this time around in the race for president. Based on Florida's ballot certification, the only Democrat running is the incumbent Joe Biden. The Nov. 5 general election will give everyone a chance to choose the nation's top dog.

As for Republicans, several candidates have suspended their campaigns but didn't submit a formal withdrawal by mid-December, meaning they remain on today's ballot. Along with former President Trump, others still listed include Florida's Ron DeSantis and former governors Nikki R. Haley of South Carolina, Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas and Chris Christie of New Jersey. Only DeSantis among those candidates has endorsed Trump, who also has not received the backing of his former Vice President Mike Pence.

And yes, polls close at 7 p.m. However, elections officials said those already in line before that time ― if there is a line ― will be able to cast their ballot.

Just make sure you're in the right place.

Residents must vote in their assigned precinct, which can be found on your voter information card, on the Collier elections site , or by calling the agency at (239) 252-8683.

Cuba protests US comments following protests against power blackouts, food shortages

HAVANA — Cuba’s government on Monday protested as interventionist comments from the U.S. Embassy on the island following demonstrations against power blackouts and food shortages by hundreds of people in eastern Cuba.

Cuba’s Foreign Ministry delivered a note expressing the complaint to the chargé d’affaires at the U.S. diplomatic mission in Havana, Benjamin Ziff.

On Sunday, protesters took to the streets in the eastern city of Santiago decrying power outages lasting up to eight hours and shortages of food. State media confirmed the protests in Santiago, while the U.S. Embassy in Havana said there were also reports of protests in a number of other provinces across the island.

Videos showing people chanting “electricity and food” were quickly shared by Cubans on and off the island on platforms like X and Facebook. A nongovernmental human rights group that monitors Cuba said there had been at least three arrests.

The U.S. Embassy urged the Cuban government to respect the protests in a post on its Facebook page.

“We urge the Cuban government to respect the human rights of the protesters and attend to the legitimate needs of the Cuban people,” it said.

On Monday, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío, speaking to The Associated Press, called the comments “disrespectful“ and an ”open interference is Cuba’s domestic affairs.”

“It was also cynical, as we said publicly, and hypocritical because it was referring to issues that are occurring in Cuba in which there’s an import and responsibility from the U.S. government,” said Fernández de Cossío, referring to the longstanding U.S. embargo on the island.

Cuba is facing one of the worst economic and energy crises in its history. Waves of blackouts have grown worse in recent weeks, adding to frustrations over food shortages and inflation that have made it increasingly difficult to make ends meet on the communist-governed island. Hundreds of thousands of people have migrated, with many headed to the United States.

Retired Belarusian hockey player Konstantin Koltsov dies in Florida at 42

M IAMI (AP) — Former Belarusian hockey player Konstantin Koltsov, who was coaching in the KHL, has died in Florida, police said Tuesday. He was 42.

Miami-Dade Police detective Argemis Colome confirmed Koltsov's death in a statement sent to The Associated Press. Police said the death was an apparent suicide. No foul play was suspected.

Koltsov served as an assistant coach for Salavat Yulaev Ufa the past two seasons. He also was an assistant on staff for the Belarusian men’s national team.

National team coach Dmitry Baskov called Koltsov's death “an irreparable loss.”

"Konstantin was one of the undisputable leaders of our team, a talented progressive coach, a bright player," Baskov said in a statement. “He was an example of sturdiness, hard work, dedication and an idol for many Belarusian boys and his colleagues. It’s hard and unfair when such people leave so early.”

Koltsov played in 144 NHL games for the Pittsburgh Penguins from 2003-06 after being selected in the first round of the 1999 draft, putting up 12 goals and 26 assists. The Penguins in a statement extended condolences to Koltsov’s family and friends.

Koltsov played most of his career in the Russian Superleague, which morphed into the KHL, finishing with Dynamo Minsk in 2015-16 and going into coaching. Salavat Yulaev Ufa expressed sorrow for the death of Koltsov, who won a Gagarin Cup championship with the club as a player in 2010-11.

“He was a strong and cheerful person, he was loved and respected by players, colleagues, and fans,” the team said in a statement. “(Koltsov) forever wrote himself into the history of our club.”

Koltsov had been dating second-ranked women’s tennis player Aryna Sabalenka , who was scheduled to play in the Miami Open tournament that began Tuesday. Messages sent to Sabalenka's publicist and tournament officials seeking comment were not immediately returned.

Sabalenka is a 25-year-old also from Belarus who won the Australian Open in January for her second consecutive title at Melbourne Park. She was featured during the Netflix docuseries “Break Point,” speaking emotionally about the death of her father when he was in his early 40s.
