Because of all the excitement caused by the launch of the steel and ceramic Daytona ref. 116500LN at Baselworld 2016, it’s easy to forget that there were other new Rolex watches there too. Case in point is the highly attractive, yet somewhat overlooked, Yacht-Master 37 ref. 268622. The ref. 286622 is the smaller version of the Yacht-Master 40 ref. 116622 with the exact same color palette—making these a great pair of matching his and her Rolex watches.  With warmer weather finally on the horizon, let’s dive into the nautical-inspired Yacht-Master 37 ref. 268622.

The Beauty of the Rolesium Yacht-Master 37 

As its name suggests, the Yacht-Master 37 ref. 286622 sports a very wearable 37mm case—perfectly suitable for women. Alternatively, men who prefer a more restrained watch size can certainly wear this particular Yacht-Master too. Dubbed by Rolex as “Rolesium”, this term refers to the use of both stainless steel and platinum on the Yacht-Master.

Both the Oyster case and Oyster bracelet are constructed from stainless steel for optimal robustness and sportiness, while the platinum rotating bezel amps up the luxuriousness. While this Yacht-Master 37 is monochromatic, it is far from boring thanks to different shades and textures. For instance, the matt sandblasted platinum on the bezel is a stunning contrast to the glossy raised numerals. Also, the center polished links of the steel Oyster bracelet pops next to the brushed steel links flanking it. Furthermore, the dark rhodium dial has a sunburst finish, which plays beautifully in the light.

That moody gray dial benefits from a subtle flash of color. And the turquoise seconds hand and turquoise “Yacht-Master” label is the perfect color choice. Encircling the periphery of the dial are the large lume plots with white gold surrounds, in addition to the date window at 3 o’clock. Naturally, this being a Rolex, the date display is magnified by the brand’s iconic Cylops lens affixed to the crystal sapphire protecting the dial. Finally, sitting at the center of the dial is the pair of luminescent Mercedes-style hands .

The Caliber 2236 at the heart of the Yacht-Master 37

Powering the Rolesium Yacht-Master 37 is the Rolex Caliber 2236 automatic movement. As with all modern Rolex calibers, this is an in-house mechanical movement. It is, of course, a COSC-certified movement, but beyond that, it’s also a “Superlative Chronometer” due to Rolex’s more stringent parameters. In fact, the Caliber 2236 boasts a precision rate of -2/+2 sec/day, while the COSC threshold is only -4/+6 seconds per day.

The functions of the Caliber 2236 include the time and date . But, it also has the instantaneous date feature—meaning that the date “jumps” to the next one at midnight rather than a slow gradual turning of the disc. Additionally, the hacking feature—where the seconds hand comes to a complete stop when the winding crown is out—allows for more precise time adjustments.

Positioned as a luxury watch to wear while sailing aboard a boat (or lunching at the yacht club), the Yacht-Master 37 is water resistant to 330 feet (100 meters). To achieve this, the watertight Oyster case features a monobloc middle case , Triplock winding crown, and fluted caseback.

Owner review: Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621

A true sleeper.

The Yacht-Master line of Rolex has never been a hugely popular series from the acclaimed watch house. That is not necessarily a bad thing though. This was actually the main reason that I got attracted to the Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621 in the first place.

There are very few of these that you will actually see in the wild.

The Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621 has such an elegant profile, it is similar to the case of a modern Datejust and Daytona with lugs slopping down and hugging one’s wrist. So when I got a call from my Rolex authorized dealer last year (I waited for a week…. Yes you read it right, waited only for a week) I didn’t think twice and drove myself the very next day to pick it up in person.

I picked up the less popular 37mm two-tone rose gold version and I absolutely love it. The Rolex rose gold is so warm that one tends to get mesmerized by it (at least I do). The elegance of the profile, shine and tone of the rose gold and weight does not disappoint. I wear this in the office and on the beach… literally an incredibly versatile timepiece.

A lot of people might be wondering why I opted for the Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621 rather than the popular 40mm. I always prefer the more modest sized watches and thought this one was a good fit on my 6.5 inch wrist. I have a number of 40mm watches in my current collection and I thought the 37mm would be a good addition for a more “classy touch”. It is still a mystery to me why this line has not shoot up in popularity and value. Something deep inside me would prefer to keep it that way… a hidden gem that only a few know and appreciate!

The Yacht-Master in Rolesium is absolutely worthy of consideration for a variety of reasons for both men and women alike. Specifically, the special and versatile nature of the Yacht-Master 37 stems from its size, color scheme and genuinely unique combination of materials.

At 37 millimeters wide, the Yacht-Master 37 fits neatly into the new-found trend among luxury timepieces, as they have have set off on their way back to more compact sizes. Smaller watches, generally speaking, are often more comfortable over extended periods of wear and they display neat proportions on their exteriors.

Regardless their size, all Rolex timepieces have been painstakingly engineered for ultimate wearing comfort – achieved through the design of their cases, bracelets, straps, clasps, weight distribution and the integration of these elements, so a smaller sized Rolex watch will only deliver these aforementioned benefits by being a more tailored match to those with a narrower wrist – ladies and gentlemen alike.

As such, the Yacht-Master 37 wraps comfortably around the wrist without losing anything at all from its presence. In fact, its Rolesium exterior with a dash of blue make it unique among Rolex Professional watches. Rolesor will be familiar to many as the combination of Oystersteel and 18ct gold. But Rolesium, being exclusive to the Yacht-Master, is that much more rarely seen.

Rolesium refers to the combination of an Oystersteel exterior matched to a solid Pt950 platinum bezel. Adding the luster and inimitable sheen of platinum, the Rolesium Oyster case and bracelet of the Yacht-Master line truly is like no other.

The bezel features raised, polished numerals against a matt, sand-blasted background – all crafted from platinum, the precious metal quite simply the most difficult to be machined and decorated on this level in fine watchmaking. The bezel rotates in both directions, clockwise as well as counterclockwise, unlike the bezel on dive watches like the Submariner or Sea-Dweller . With the collection's strong ties and dedication to sailing, this bidirectional bezel allows the wearer to quickly adjust the bezel to the momentary position of the minute hand and promptly begin the timing of a time period up to 60 minutes long, like when sailing between two buoys, for example. The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.

Luxury yacht Ferretti 530 was very keen to undertake in collaboration once again with AYT – Advanced Yacht Technology, Ferretti Group Engineering Division and Studio Zuccon International Project . The compact dimensions, 16 meters long and almost 5 meters wide, allow the 530 yacht to deliver grand Italian luxury and cruising immersed in such comfort until now unheard of in a yacht of this size.

Ferretti 530 yacht boasts three revolutionary innovations: the full beam master cabin with chaise longue and two large open view windows that make it a real suite at sea level bathed in light, tones and the natural essences of teak. Moving the galley from the center to the aft section creates a unique open space that includes the saloon, galley, cocktail bar and the dining area, the cockpit area continues thanks to the tilting window. The roll bar free sky lounge and the spoiler allow the 530 a sporty appearance combined with elegantly formal lines.

Riva , the iconic Ferretti Group brand, presented a new model at the historical Lake d’Iseo shipyards in July 2011.
