The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
• LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

This is a TRAC 14 Catamaran, it is in fantastic condition. Like new sails. Trailer just had bearing redone so it is road ready. While the wire rigging is in tact, the rope rigging as well as the trampoline rope are both dry rot on the boat and will need to be replaced. I'm unsure the manufacture date, but Ebay requires one.

16'-18' Catamaran help

I am looking for a used 16’ – 18’ catamaran. Here in southern California there are lots of them for sale, but which should I get? 1. The boat will be used mostly in sheltered coastal (Pacific) waters. However, when the weather is good, I will sometimes take it out into the ocean (which means some waves & swells.) 2. The most important criterion is good single-handed sailing characteristics. It will be sailed solo about 80% of the time. (Because the water is deep, daggerboards are not a problem, especially if they improve upwind pointing.) 3. Lastly (only IF the first two requirements are well met) is the boat big/buoyant enough to carry a second crewman (or two children) on occasion? Recently I have seen the following catamarans for sale: A Class, Hobie 16/17/18/18 Magnum, NACRA 5.0/5.2/5.5/5.7, Prindle 15/16/ 18/18-2, Trac 16, Sol Cat 18, SuperCat 17. I have not seen any G-Cats or Mysteres. Are they worth looking for? Which of these (or any other Cats) will work the best for the purposes noted above? Thanks, Richard  

Rich, u really want to ask this question on sailing anarchy or else the beach cats forum. My personal preference would be a hobie getaway with the wings, not as light an fast as the others, but plenty of space for friends/fam and those wings make sailing a beach cat so much more comfy As for seaworthiness, I saw a YouTube video about a bunch of sailors in key west who took their hobbies 16's to Cuba every year. People have done the northwest passage, and crossed the Atlantic on these things, though its extremely uncomfortable...  

A Hobie 16 is easy to setup and sail by yourself, but can also take 4 people without a problem. That would be my choice.  

Sailing Anarchy would be a good place for this, sailnet tends to be more monoslugs and cruising cats. I've got a monoslug along with a beach cat now, I enjoy it but it's a very different kind of enjoyment. Is this your first cat? Some are a lot easier to sail and to right than others. I sail double-handed but sometimes my skipper takes ours out solo. We started with a Hobie Getaway which was fabulous for learning on but being fairly aggressive we grew out of it in a few years. It was fantastic for taking a few people along (even 4 adults) and we didn't have the wings. Things happened relatively slowly so we had time to think and make the appropriate corrections to avoid going for a swim. When we decided to move up to a faster boat, the skipper decided he wanted an F18 (Hobie Tiger but Nacra makes a lot of them). It's a lot faster and not nearly as forgiving. One of our first times out he commented how it wasn't all that much more difficult to handle and react to than the Getaway. We were in the water less than 15 seconds later. Flying a spinnaker is great fun though. The 18 is a bit much even for him to right and solo. If I were buying again I'd look for an F16: designed to single-hand but still fun for 2. We avoid taking 3 people out on the F18 since they just get in the way and there are lines everywhere. So even if you want to take out an extra person or two, I'd focus on getting a boat that you can sail and right yourself, even in swells. I like the Hobies, a lot of people love their Nacras and Prindles. It depends to some extent what people use in your area. Even if you don't want to race, it's a lot easier to get parts for common boats. The a cats will be a lot to handle if you don't have a lot of cat sailing under your belt. I love the F18 but there's no way we could've started on it and it still scares us frequently. Stuff just happens to fast to learn. Hobie 16's are highly popular but I really like having buoyant bows. For the most part, cats will take swell nicely. The first guys who crossed the Atlantic did say they'd never do it again and they strongly advise against anyone else doing it. If you're singlehanding, think about how it's going to get in and out of the water and how much it weighs.  

Hobie 16 gets my vote also. No daggerboards to mess with. I launched mine a few times through the (Atlantic) surf and it did fine in the ocean. I singlehanded quite a bit (get a trapeze harness if it doesn't have one) but also had as many as four aboard.  

the bigger ? is how are you going to launch and where? How much do you weigh, do you weigh enough to right anything bigger then a 16 single handed. Single handed launching/ raising the mast anything bigger then a 16 is hard to do. the 18's sail better and are better for the weight of two people. most 16 are designed to sail with a max of 300# combined crew weight. the Prindle 16 can handle more weight then the Hobie and is a better sailing boat over all. if you have easy lanching and are not worried about righting the boat then go with an 18. Hobie, Prindle and Nacra are your choices in the 18' range. do not get a Sol cat or Trac 16 no matter how cheap. if you are fun sailing/launching single handed then I would get a Prindle 16. single handed sailing you do not need a boat with dagger boards, in a 16 the difference in pointing ability is not measurable. if you are in orange county the best place to sail and launch is Long Beach. Newport is ok but has a speed limit in the bay of 5 MPH and they love to give the cat sailors a ticket and the launch is a 3 mile sail from the ocean. Dana Point is ocean sailing, not much harbor to sail a cat. San Diego and Mission Bay is good sailing in a cat but a long drive.  

Nacra 18 square is the boat for you if you aren't going to trailer. It has great tacking due to it's large daggerboards, and it's extended width will make for hours of great solo sailing. A Hobie 17 has wings and a furling jib for single or multi sailor fun. No matter what you buy, check for soft hulls, as even the best preserved beach cats are starting to get soft.  

I loved my Prindle 16. Easy to single-hand which was most of the time, good performer, and would beach launch in surf with little problem.  

SA for multis? Ha!!! Have you guys not seen how I have singlehandedly transformed SN into the go-to forum for old beach cats??? PLEASE! rll - welcome to SN dude. Here is a thread detailing my endless toil in restoring a 1975 Spirit 17 beach cat: http://www.sailnet.com/forums/general-discussion-sailing-related/90171-beach-cats-rehab.html It's complete with the number of hours it took, the amount of money - and the lessons learned thus far...including how I completely destroyed it on its inaugural sail! Here's what I'd offer: 1. Don't buy a basket case. It's not worth the money to fix it up. Spend more on a boat that's used but in good shape and ready to sail the moment you buy it. You'll spend that money either way. 2. Make sure the boat comes with a trailer. 3. If you're going used and cheap, and you just want family fun, get a Hobie or a Prindle (skip the others). I'd recommend a Hobie. TONS of parts out there (which you'll need) and either will serve you well in most all sailing conditions you want to hit. And it will easily handle two adults - and even a couple of kids (see my story in the BFS thread). 4. If you want technical and fast, get a Nacra. But be ready for much higher buy-in, a longer learning curve, and more expensive replacement parts. At the end of the day - I'd say go with a Hobie 16.  

Get a Hobie 18 with wings if you want more work to do solo, but more space with a crew... or a Prindle 18 without daggerboards if you want it easier solo and more bouyant with crew. You asked this on beachcats and I think you got the same (good) answers then, too. Really, whatever boat you buy you will be stuck with, so just get one and make it work. If you're going to have more than 1 other person, then get at least an 18 footer. So then, if you're going to solo and don't have a lot of cat experience, don't get larger than an 18 footer. So get an 18 footer.  

Hobie 16 I say also. I learned to really sail on them. There are small fleets of them everywhere. I kept mine on the beach in front of my house in a beah community in NJ. Can be handled by one person. Have a jib and mainsail and are very responsive and quick. easy to find parts and can find ones used and inexpensive relatively easily. Sets up in 20 minutes Easily trailorable also. dave dave

If you are going to sail alone, that means a boat you can right on your own. Hobie 18/Prindle 18/Larger NACRAs: Not possible for most mortals. Don't buy these unless you have crew or are certain you won't ditch. Hobie16/Prindle 16: Not easy, but possible. You need to be big and/or carry a righting bag. The Prindle is a little easier (lighter). Had one for many years, dumped her a few times. Easy to right with a crew, hard with a bag, impossible without some form of aid. Hobie 17/Hobie 17 turbo. These are my favorite one-up boats on the used market. Prindle 15s are hard to find. The Hobie 14 is too slow.

At the request of the shipyard Fountaine Pajot naval architect Daniel Andrieu and designers from Pierangelo Andreani Studio initially designed the MY5 marine catamaran exclusively as a power catamaran. Cat rightfully took its place in the line of motor yachts of the shipyard between MY 4.S and MY6. Like its older brother, MY5 (formerly MY 40) also collected a number of prestigious awards, one of which is “ Best Multihull Motor Yacht ” (up to 50 ft) by 2019 Asia Boating Awards.

It is a very stable boat, which makes it attractive for both family cruising and commercial cruising. The space of all decks is thoughtfully divided into zones of work, rest, and dining. Recreation options include the opportunity to sunbathe or swim with the whole family or in the company of friends - there is enough space for everyone.

Even the participants of the charter will comfortably accommodate on the foredeck area of 8 m², in the cockpit, saloon and flybridge of 16 m², not to mention the cabins.

It is from the bathing platform that the entrance to the cockpit opens from two sides: one is wide, through which you can load products, equipment and gear, the other is narrower.

In the cockpit there is just a huge L-shaped sofa, in front of which you can install an additional table assembled to organize a meal in the fresh air. This is convenient, since a wide entrance to the saloon opens from the cockpit, and the galley is located there immediately on the starboard side.

The cockpit also has excellent access to both engine rooms through large hatches. In the center there is a place for storing life rafts.

In addition to stability, the catamaran is as safe as possible for both adults and children: wide side decks, stairs and flybridge are equipped with grab bars, as well as railings, ladder steps are wide and covered with non-slip material.

On the foredeck is a beautiful C-shaped sunbathing area with two full-size reclining sun loungers. In the center of this living room, you see a trapdoor that opens up to a huge locker where fenders and water sports equipment can fit.

While we are still at the foredeck, pay attention to the anchor, which can be controlled from all decks, including control panels in the saloon and on the flybridge.

The photo above clearly shows the sunroof, which protects those who are on the flybridge from the sun. Here all passengers of the cat can freely sit. For this, comfortable sofas and poufs are provided. It is equipped with a bar, refrigerator, ice maker and barbecue.

The control panel is placed on a small elevation, from where an almost 360-degree view opens. The helmsman can see all parts of the floats, the port side is visible through the gangway leading to the flybridge. The helm of MY5 looks like a car steering wheel, the tilt of which is adjustable. Instrument panels and equipment control are displayed here: engine diagnostics, throttle, joystick, multifunctional marine display, etc.

This is the working area of the flybridge in addition to the lounge and dining area. But there are places for family members or friends so that the helmsman does not feel lonely. A very social decision.

The saloon is also conditionally divided into several zones. With wide sliding doors it can be combined with the cockpit, which significantly expands the usable area in addition to the 16 m² of the saloon itself.

At the starboard there is the kitchen area: you get a well-equipped galley with microwave or oven, gas hob and dishwasher. Opposite to it a large refrigerator with a freezer is installed. The seating area, or dining area, is slightly raised compared to the level of the galley. This opens up a wider view through panoramic windows around the perimeter.

A long sofa on the port side with upholstered seats, backs and poufs and an armchair make up the living room. And together with the table, which is transformed with the help of an electric drive, upholstered furniture makes up a dining area, where 6 people can freely accommodate, and actually even more if desired.

And here is the working area of the saloon - the skipper can climb down here in bad weather. It is equipped with a full-fledged control panel, exactly the same as on the flybridge. Although, the overview of the entire catamaran is not as good - the stern is not visible.

Let's start the description of MY5’s the cabins by saying that they are two meters high, which is unusual for a 40-foot boat. The master cabin is just a small apartment with all the amenities that start with a double queen-size island bed. The porthole opposite the bed exceeds its width and has an opening part, so that the inhabitants are provided with natural light and fresh air.

Before getting into the main cabin, to which the entire port side is given, you have to go through the foyer, where the main electrical switchboard and a spot for a washing machine are located. The master cabin is equipped with plenty of storage space too.

A separate huge bathroom with an open shower overlooking the sea and a separate closed toilet - a layout that is almost never found on cats of this size.

Depending on the choice of equipment, you can have MY5 with three or four cabins. In the case of a three-cabin configuration, the master cabin remains the same, and two cabins are equipped in the starboard float with a shared bathroom and a separate shower.

Sailing catamaran Tanna 47 from Fountaine Pajot replaced the Saona 47 - the new model in the old case proved to be so striking and effective that we gave it the fourth place in our rating.

To the left and to the right along the side there are entrance ladders with wide comfortable steps. Between them there can be a platform, which is an optional element. It can be used to carry a dinghy or as a bathing area.

The layout of the cockpit differs little from its predecessor. The table on the port side can accommodate 8-10 people. A couple more vacationers can be accommodated on a sunbed on the port side or on a long sofa along the transom.

A gas barbecue is very convenient on deck: you catch a fish and fry it right there, and the smells will be carried away by the wind. Of course, here you can fry not only fish, but also meat, vegetables, etc. Refrigerator and freezer are also an option, there are spots for them in the cockpit.

From the cockpit we rise to the helm station. From the control post you can enjoy an excellent overview of the entire catamaran, the nose of the left hull is slightly blocked, but you can navigate by the railing. And to see the stern, you will have to bend down, but this procedure does not cause discomfort.

The helm area and the sailing area on of Tanna 47 are separated, but the winches from are within easy reach, just behind the helm.

The panel contains all the tools, the readings of which are important for the helmsman, additional to throttle controls, chartplotter , etc. The stoppers of all three winches are brought to one point. Below is a pocket for sheets and halyards.

The sailing equipment includes the classic genoa - Fountaine Pajot did not follow the new fashion for automation here either.

On the flybridge, manipulations with the sails do not threaten anyone if at this time they are located on one of plentiful sofas or sunbeds. There is room for a table and extra seats.

In the bow there is a large compartment for the anchor chain, where fenders can also be stored. On top of the hatch of this compartment and next to it, you can place several mats and organize a natural solarium.

There are also few changes in the saloon: the usual rounding of furniture, a luxurious corner sofa, a side ottoman, a sliding table - everything is very stylish and beautifully lit. Two more large skylights have been added to the panoramic glazing of the cabin.

A small hatch above the stove acts as a hood. The galley is equipped with all kitchen utensils. There are several refrigerators in the cabin. Above one of them is a large chartplotter, and the usual place of the navigator practically does not exist in this version.

Three and four cabin versions are available. In the 3 cabin version, the master cabin is in the port float. The bed is really big, with access from three sides. In the transition to a full-fledged bathroom there is a wardrobe, shelves, work and dressing tables.

Aventura 14

The flagship of STGI Marine, the Aventura 14 motor catamaran holds the record for the number of cabins among 44-foot yachts - there are six of them. At the same time, the catamaran has seaworthy characteristics for long-distance, almost oceanic crossings at a maximum speed of 22 knots, which can be developed by the Yanmar 2x400 hp engines installed on it. At a cruising speed of 16 knots, the cruising range can reach 1,300 nautical miles.

But in the engine compartment of the yacht, you can put engines with a power of 550 hp, then the cat will develop a cruising speed of up to 18 knots, and a maximum speed of up to 27. In two tanks plus one additional tank Aventura 14 can carry 1.5 + 1.5 + 1 = whopping 4 tons of fuel.

Nova Luxe took a direct part in the creation of the vessel, offering to make it as environmentally friendly as possible. To do this, they have developed a powerful solar battery specifically for this model to be placed on the flybridge. Its capacity (more than 7 kW/h) will fully serve the needs of passengers. And additional electrical equipment will reduce the use of diesel engines on sunny days.

With such high performance, passengers and crew are provided with incredible comfort to work, rest and travel, which is the hallmark of the Aventura brand .

A very wide hydraulic platform at the stern accommodates several motorboats, rafts or jet skis. There is also a spacious aft garage for a pair of folding bikes or equipment for diving, hunting or fishing.

There is a table in the cockpit, which can comfortably accommodate up to 16 people on soft sofas and side benches or chairs. And since the saloon and cockpit are separated by wide sliding doors, you get a huge common space, which is also located on the same level.

Huge 26 m² flybridge has its own kitchen area, which includes a grill, sink and a compact refrigerator for drinks, ice cream and fruits. The dining area, that serves also as a relaxation area or a living room, includes a large table and sofas with backs, surrounding the table from 3 sides.

A huge space below the working area can be equipped with a solarium or a SPA with a jacuzzi, some place gym equipment there. Of course, with a jacuzzi filled with water, you cannot develop maximum speed, after all, the additional weight is almost 3 tons.

The working area includes a control post, as well as a comfortable seat in front of it for several people, the height of which is adjustable. The height of the steering wheel itself, made in the form of an automobile steering wheel, is regulated in the same way. The instrument panel displays the performance indicators of the equipment and its control elements, as well as a high-quality marine display with a chartplotter.

The spacious saloon with electric table for 12 people has a full galley with all the equipment, a large double-door refrigerator with a large freezer, a wine cabinet, a microwave, a dishwasher and a washing machine, etc.

The working area is a control post, the dashboard of which is located behind the steering wheel and to the right of it. All the controls of the Aventura 14 are placed here – the automation of the yacht’s management is so advanced, that this vessel can be considered a “smart yacht” by analogy with a “smart home”.

An excellent view opens up from the helmsman's seat, in particular, due to the fact that the saloon is completely glazed and through it the bow of the catamaran is perfectly visible. When maneuvering, the helmsman does not have to crouch or stretch his neck - he has a full view of both floats both in the stern and in the bow.

Naval architects and designers abandoned the idea of flybridge. But on the foredeck, you can equip a large sunbathing area using a deck and two trampolines.

You get fairly roomy, but not overbearing, guest cabins fore and aft of the same float, each with its own porthole, large double bed and bathroom.

The master cabin completely occupies one of the hulls and is divided into bedroom, living room and bath areas. In the recreation area you will find a large island double bed, two portholes, shelves. Further in the corridor there are cupboards, sofas, several tables. And in the other part there is a huge bathroom that contains everything that is required for hygiene and water procedures: a shower, a washbasin, a latrine, etc.

If desired, you can choose a package for 4 cabins or with a separate cabin for the skipper in the bow of the vessel.

The MY6 (formerly MY44) motor cruising catamaran is still one of the world leaders in the 13.4 m (44 ft) double hull boat market. Shipyard Fountaine Pajot Motor Yachts received all the most prestigious awards for this cat, including “Best Multihull Power Yacht”, “European Power Boat of the Year” and “Best Passagemaker”.

At the same time, as is customary in Fountaine Pajot’s catamarans, the entire space is divided into zones - working, relaxing, dining, kitchen, etc.

In the bow there are several spacious lockers where fenders and ropes can be stored. Anchor and anchor winch can be controlled using a remote control or from one of the control stations located in the saloon and on the flybridge.

Foredeck is transformed into a great place for a vacation - a sunbathing area or an evening bar - with reclining loungers and a portable table with recesses for bottles and glasses.

We climb the flybridge stairs with railings and wide steps. Here the distribution of zones is thought out to the smallest detail. Recreation area is also a dining area, with comfortable sofas and a large built-in table, a refrigerator for drinks and ice cream.

Another very large folding sofa - a real rookery - is located on the port side. Friends or family members resting here will brighten up the skipper's stay at the helm, which has the shape of a steering wheel.

The working area is located on the starboard side, directly opposite this huge sofa. The control post is equipped with a very comfortable wide chair.

The control panel contains all the main instruments, as well as the controls for all helmsman actions, and a multifunctional marine display. The height of the steering wheel is adjustable. Management is simplified using the joystick.

All this splendor is protected by a sun-protection curtain on the roof, which can be moved if you want to sunbathe.

The same control post is located in the cabin. Huge portholes located around the perimeter provide natural light and excellent visibility. The portholes have opening parts that allow you to ventilate the cabin.

Incredibly large space, although filled with excellent upholstered furniture, leaves a lot of room for free movement. At the table-transformer, 10 people can fit without constraining each other. This table, if desired, can easily be converted into a coffee, dining or even an extra bed.

Corners of the table and galley furniture are rounded for safety. The galley is located on the port side - despite its compactness, it has all the necessary kitchen equipment, including a stove, refrigerator, etc.

As you can see in the top photo, a wide sliding door opens from the saloon to the cockpit. This combines them into a single space, which allows you to throw grand parties with a large number of guests, turning one of the galley tables into a bar counter.

In the cockpit there is a comfortable soft sofa with lockers under the seats; a portable table can be placed here.

There is also a locker with a life raft, a gas cylinder and necks for refueling the tanks. Fresh water is connected to the shower in the cockpit.

Under the cockpit hatches there is a capacious engine compartment, which provides free access to engines and other technical equipment.

Using the wide steps from the cockpit you get to stationary platform, a real personal beach spot with an area of 9 m². The cockpit floor and platform are covered with natural teak.

Maestro version includes a master suite that is completely dedicated to the owner. Surprisingly spacious, it has a real island bed, a table, an extra sofa and wardrobes for storing clothes and other things.

A huge porthole with a "window" provides the cabin with fresh air and natural light. The height of all the rooms of the catamaran MY6 is striking - even a regular cabin’s ceiling is at least 2 meters high.

The master cabin has a private bathroom and toilet. Two double guest cabins located in another float are also provided with separate bathrooms with toilets.

Sunseeker Predator 50

From the day on the open sea to the longest cruise, the Sunseeker Predator 50 is a versatile boat with the unmistakable style of the English shipyard. The Predator 50 is 16.48 meters long and at a speed of 21 knots has 235 miles of autonomy with a tank of 1,800 liters. The maximum speed it can reach is about 32 knots. On board there are from 4 up to a maximum of 6 beds depending on the configuration chosen. The open design of the Sunseeker Predator 50, together with the hard top that can be opened completely as well as the cockpit windows that can be opened completely, enhance the salon and allow easy communication between outside and inside.

Bénéteau Gran Turismo 50 & Sportfly

Beneteau’s 15-meter to enjoy the Mediterranean at its best. This 15-meter model is the flagship of the Bénéteau Gran Turismo 50 sport-cruiser family. Elegant lines, full-space main deck, latest generation technologies. This boat focuses on a protected and spacious cockpit and at the same time on a bow with plenty of sunbathing space. Developed in close collaboration with Volvo engine manufacturers, the planing hull equipped AirStep 2 gives the Gran Turismo 50 speed, safety and comfort in navigation. The motorization has IPS transmissions that ensure low consumption and maximum maneuverability. At the stern, the Williams Minijet 280 compatible tender-garage can accommodate any classic outboard tender up to 2.90m and opens onto a large immersion swim platform.

The Toy 51 has a harmonious line that recalls all the stylistic features of classic yachting. These are the immutable canons that define a beautiful boat, which is always liked and never gets old. Ideal for day trips or family cruises, they are equipped with the latest Volvo IPS propulsion system that provides precision maneuvering and optimization of consumption, with a cruising speed of 28 knots. The comfort in cruise is high, thanks to the accurate work that has affected all the elements of the boat and the full range of equipment. Below deck, in addition to two rooms for owner and guests, there is a real accommodation for the sailor with its own bathroom and independent entrance from the cockpit.

Sandwich construction ensures longevity.

Isophthalic acid (IPA) resins in the outer layers used during the laminating process ensure that the hull of a BAVARIA is of the highest quality. These offer effective protection against osmosis and thus promote longevity of the BAVARIA. The hull and deck of a BAVARIA is formed by sandwich construction with foam inserts. In sailing yachts the deck is reinforced with aluminium sheets where fittings are mounted. In the so‐called „marrying“ process shortly before the end of production, the deck and hull are screwed and glued together.

Solid wood troughout, yet it is light on board

Over 40 years of experience in boat building craftsmanship are behind the workmanship in the wood inside a BAVARIA. And although modern machines facilitate the boat builders’ work in their own joiner’s workshops, their sense of proportion and their know‐how in dealing with different types of wood is a daily need that only they can satisfy. Mahogany, teak, oak, walnut, chestnut or Ocean Line – a BAVARIA offers individuality and an atmosphere in which you feel comfortable, no matter what type of wood you have chosen. And every BAVARIA encompasses a perfect balance of solid wood and sturdy laminates, because in the end the weight of a BAVARIA’s interior fittings also contribute towards steady seakeeping and excellent sailing characteristics.

Every fitting, every hatch is in its proper place

Before fitting and hatch assembly on deck, the milling and drilling has to be completed. To automate these tasks, BAVARIA developed a CNC system years ago that to date is unique in the global yacht and boat building industry. The deck layout of each type of yacht and the hole patterns for standard and optional equipment are stored by means of CAD/CAM. This requires hundreds of individual operations that are already predefined in the development phase of a yacht, and then optimised. The aim of this automation process was and is to reach a consistently high quality with continuous improvement in productivity. Precise arrangement of the deck openings is crucial in ensuring subsequent sealing.

First look: Meyer Yachts reveals interior of first 150m ultra-sustainable concept

Meyer Yachts, the superyacht division of commerical shipbuilder Meyer Werft, took the opportunity at the Monaco Yacht Show to reveal the first interior renderings of its 150 metre concept known as ONE50. 

The concept was first announced at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2021 and is the first design launched under the superyacht division. ONE50 spans six decks with a 20 metre beam and a herculean volume of 15,000 GT. The yacht is also designed to be powered by fuel cell technology and battery banks, powered by 25,000 kilowatts of electricity to deliver a top speed of 23 knots.

Her interior design has been developed in-house and is home to several first-of-its-kind features. One such feature is a cavernous spa set over two levels encompassing several hundred square metres of floor space. A retractable swimming pool can be found on the starboard side that slides out to sit above the water, alongside a wellness bar, massage parlour, sauna and hammam. 

"The wellness and health aspect has been a trend in the superyacht segment for years. With this extravagant spa, we want to set an example and show what is possible for us," said Lars Kruse, head of sales at Meyer Yachts. 

Elsewhere, the top deck is reserved for the owner's use only and is home to forward facing suite and private forward terrace. "They [the owner] can practically step straight out of bed into the pool, which is designed as an indoor-outdoor variant and connects the suite with the foredeck," Kruse added. Other features include a private lounge with a TV and audio system as well as a number of private dining options. 

“We are opening the next chapter in our history and entering the market for mega yachts,” said Meyer Group chief executive Bernard Meyer. “We can realise almost limitless ideas and ship sizes - even the craziest ones. We are currently seeing that the demand for mega yachts is increasing and there is room for another shipyard in this segment”.

The company's commitment to alternative fuels underpins the vision of Meyer Yachts. "We see a lot of potential in mega yachts for new environmentally technologies and we attach great importance to this," the group said.

With its roots in the cruising sector, Meyer Group already has the facilities to build yachts up to 500 metres in length and will position itself at the top end of the market with the aim to build the "world's largest and greenest mega yachts".

Launch of new 145m Lürssen superyacht LUMINANCE

The newest addition to the prestigious Lürssen fleet has been launched from their Vegesack facilities in Germany. The top-secret 145m (475ft) superyacht LUMINANCE was unveiled today and has proven to be a serious head-turner.

Ranking as the 15th largest yacht in the world and estimated to have an internal volume of 9,400 GT, the brand new Lürssen motor yacht LUMINANCE certainly wows onlookers with her vast proportions. 

Her construction began in 2018 before she was moved to outfitting in February 2021, but as ever, further details about the Lürssen superyacht, including specifications and amenities, remain shrouded in secrecy. 

Her exterior styling comes from the boards of Espen Øino and marks the 30th collaboration between the designer and the shipyard and Francois Zuretti is responsible for her interiors.

Superyacht LUMINANCE follows the launch and sea trials of the 146-meter (479ft) superyacht Opera in September 2022. Upon delivery, superyacht LUMINANCE will be the 8th largest yacht in the Lürssen fleet.

Once she has been delivered, it is not expected that yacht LUMINANCE will be available for charter .

Bering 145 is the first fully customized superyacht in the Bering fleet. Designed by an in-house team of naval architects and engineers, she has a full displacement steel hull of 514 metric tons. As a result of the vessel’s specialized stabilization systems, the B145 provides a supremely comfortable ride with minimal rolling and ultimate stability.

The B145 superyacht features a hybrid propulsion system. The propeller is driven by electric motors charged by a bank of batteries. The banks are recharged by high-efficiency, variable-speed DC generators, making docking and mooring easy in the electric mode. The Bering 145 also boasts an enormous fuel capacity of 70,000 liters (18,492 gallons). Equipped with twin CAT C-32 1200 BHP @ 1800-2100 RPM engines, she has a range of more than 4,000 nautical miles in diesel mode at a minimum cruising speed of 12 knots. Bering 145, a 45-meter superyacht, is the new flagship of the Bering Yachts fleet. This transoceanic model, which combines elegance, speed, and the latest technology, will be ready for delivery in two years.

Bering 145 is the first fully customized superyacht in the Bering fleet. Designed by an in-house team of naval architects and engineers, it has a full displacement steel hull of 514 metric tons.

The superyacht features a hybrid propulsion system. The propeller is driven by electric motors charged by a bank of batteries. The banks are recharged by high-efficiency, variable speed DC generators. Docking and mooring is possible in the electric mode. Bering 145 can take on the most extreme cruising itinerary. The superyacht has an enormous fuel capacity: 70.000 L (18.492 gal.). It can travel more than 4,000 nautical miles in diesel mode at a minimum cruising speed of 12 knots. The maximum speed of the vessel is 15 knots.

Bering 145 features a highly functional layout on a 9.15-meter beam. The master stateroom is located on the main deck toward the bow, with glass windows measuring more than 9.5 square meters. Additionally, there are five guest rooms. A huge saloon with a dining area for 12 persons and a lounge area are located on the main deck. Another dining table is on the upper deck, in the sky lounge. The yacht has 4 crew staterooms and the captain quarter. Total crew capacity is 9.

The lower deck includes 32 square meters of storage space for equipment such as water toys and spare parts. Also, the superyacht is equipped with several tenders that can be placed on the upper deck. Bering 145 also includes a spacious beach club at the stern. Just imagine a space of 40 square meters for relaxing and entertaining!
