Looks, build quality and really smart design – has the new Ice 70 got the full package? asks Toby Hodges after a maiden sail

Product Overview

Price as reviewed:.

Some yachts will always produce that instant spark of attraction. With others, the appeal may be slower burning, where facets or practicalities will help make the appeal more than skin deep. This new Ice 70 may just have that rare ability to combine both.

The opportunity for a first quick sail after its debut showing at Cannes Boat Show confirmed to me that, for a multitude of reasons, the Ice 70 is a standout new large yacht. It has the looks to stop you in your tracks, the performance and finish quality to really impress, as well as something else too, something more enduring: homogenous and harmonious design.

Why is that a big deal? Many yards have models at this market level, particularly in Italy. But a semi-custom or custom yacht will typically involve input from multiple sources. The naval architecture will come from one firm, the deck styling from another, then the interiors, structures, rig and engineering design will all come from different experts. While it can work wonders, the overall effect can also risk being a little disjointed and can certainly be an overwhelming prospect for an owner to manage.

Here, one designer and one shipyard have worked together for decades and the results on the Ice 70 are telling. “It took my team and I more than 4,500 hours for the design and the complete engineering of the boat,” Umberto Felci tells me. “This makes the difference in terms of quality and coherence of the project and efficiency of the construction of the future yachts.”

For those unfamiliar with Ice Yachts, it is a performance cruising brand established 10 years ago from the experienced CN Yacht 2000 shipyard near Milan, which has built around 80 semi-custom yachts over the last three decades. So while this new Ice 70 may be the longest yet for the Ice brand (which also has a 72ft cat in build), the shipyard itself has launched dozens of composite yachts of this size (mostly from the Felci board).

Stepping aboard the Ice 70

The Ice 70 is designed for robust, fast offshore cruising. This first example is a special version made for a client who usually sails alone with his permanent skipper, Bobo Innocenti, so it needed to be easy to manage.

Innocenti explained that they have moved up from a Solaris 50 and that 90% of their time is spent cruising in the Mediterranean. An essential feature therefore was the ability to have control of everything from the helms.

The pedestals are a work of art and appear to grow out of the side deck coamings to form sculpted branches on which to hold the crucial array of push button controls. All systems, from the sheets and halyards, down to the telescopic keel, lighting and the mooring gear, can be operated from these consoles.

Then there is the bimini, so often an afterthought. Here the carbon framework was designed by Felci too and blends smoothly into the exterior aesthetic, like the spoiler on a car. With an owner who likes to actively sail for four or five hours a day before being able to relax out of the sun in the cockpit, it’s a crucial feature. It can be removed, given some time, and the sprayhood dodger can quickly be folded away.

The interior will likely appeal to the majority thanks to classy styling which fuses the traditional use of teak and leather with modern touches. The result is elegant, tasteful and peaceful, while the decision to avoid stuffing it full of cabins means it feels like a much larger yacht.

Of course the reason for choosing such a design is not just for looks, it needs to perform. Snapping up the brief chance to try Ice 70, Thalassa2 out in Cannes, I worried that by the time we made it out of the bustling Port Canto marina and through the Cannes anchorage there’d not be enough of the afternoon breeze left to give us any meaningful sailing experience.

I was (gratefully) proven wrong while being shown the real merit of having a large, performance-oriented yacht like this, one which is crafted around being able to maximise single figure windspeeds and still provide an engaging experience.

We were soon making 7 knots in 10 apparent close-hauled. The increase in stability you get at this size, shape and keel choice (telescopic) is impressive, as is the ability to sail close to the wind (up to 21° apparent). Felci, a performance cruiser maestro and a skilled dinghy racer, has produced a slippery, modern hull shape, combining high form stability with low wetted surface area.

When the Code 0 was released we were off and into a priceless spell of sailing, making 9-9.5 knots in 11 knots apparent at 60° to the apparent breeze while bathed in the golden evening light.

I imagined this to be the equivalent of driving a finely tuned Italian sports car – except with this Ice there are few boundaries, no speed limits, there’s plenty of space for your luggage/golf clubs, and you can sleep aboard in serious comfort.

70ft solo sailing

The steering felt light and direct and it was a pleasure to be able to feel pressure variances on the single carbon rudder blade. I was also impressed with how Innocenti can and does manoeuvre and sail this yacht himself and how well configured it is for him or the owner to do so.

All winches and furlers can be controlled from remote buttons on the pedestals. Even gybing the Code 0, for example, can be done short-handed from the cockpit. Although the huge headsail was furled to gybe, the neat part was having the endless line for the Code furler leading around the self-tailing jaws of the high-speed mast base winch, which is again controllable from the pedestal. Release the sheet, while pressing the winch remote button to furl, then activate the new primary winch to unleash the sail again on the other side. Impressive (when it all works smoothly)!

ice yachts 70

A sunset sail under Code 0 sold the sailing experience. The International Yachting Media

Innocenti says they fly the Code 0 until 13 knots true wind, then swap to the jib to make the same reaching speed of around 10 knots. They keep this until 20 knots before switching to the staysail.

He also says that despite this being a carbon composite build, there’s been no strict attention to weight and that comfort comes first. This is a 25-tonne fast cruiser which carries another three tonnes of water and fuel. That said, weight is certainly kept low and central. It has a full carbon rig, with hydraulic mast jack, in-boom furling mainsail sheeted to a traveller, Doyle cable-less jib and staysail and a Code 0.

The rig package alone costs more than my house, as does the lifting T-keel option – arguably the eye-watering prices required for high end performance at this size level today.

The decks are kept really clean including the single-level cockpit, flush foredeck and wide side decks, which are easy to access from the aft deck. The lead of the jib sheets to the primary winches does mar this slightly, however, by creating a tripping hazard on the side decks.

The galley is replete with domestic goods, plus three fridge-freezers which are keel/water cooled via transfer plates on the hull. Photo: The International Yachting Media

It seems a rare oversight in the otherwise slick design and I questioned if the turning blocks could be mounted inboard. Innocenti thinks this would need larger size reversible primaries to solve the problem, which would in turn create another by requiring more space.

Another slight annoyance and a downside to the cockpit protection is the need to duck below the sprayhood to move down the companionway, although the sprayhood can easily be folded away.

Below decks

When you do move below decks you’ll find a wealth of luxury and space. It really gives the impact and feel of a much larger yacht, with a layout more like an 85-90 footer – remembering that this one is designed largely for two to sail, so, other than the owner and skipper cabins there is only one guest cabin. A four cabin version is optional, as is a layout with an aft owner’s cabin.

ice yachts 70

Natural products and high quality finish give the cabins a clean, elegant feel. Photo: The International Yachting Media

The dark tones and classic styling with the abundant use of teak and burgundy leather is elegant, albeit quite masculine, and should age well. The furniture is sandwich-built with abundant use of solid teak veneers including the soles, which are punctuated with dark wenge strips.

The interior design involved plenty of owner/skipper input and shows the benefit of a genuine semi-custom approach. The aft part is particularly well conceived as the galley can be closed off from the saloon with a sliding door, yet is still accessible from the skipper’s cabin via a tech space walkway beneath the bridgedeck.

As well as conventional access to the 195hp Yanmar engine below the companionway steps, this tech space also helps allow for engine access panels from all three other sides. Innocenti’s cabin also has direct access to the machinery/genset space further aft.

ice yachts 70

Photo: The International Yachting Media

The owner’s cabin forward contains a relatively modest vee berth and practical surround stowage. The adjoining ensuite heads is particularly impressive, with a wonderful shower room with teak seat, in which you could imagine reclining and enjoying the luxury of 1,400lt water tanks. The tanks are built into the structure below the saloon floor, in composite for water and plastic for fuel.

A keelbox area for the lifting T-keel creates a longitudinal bulkhead, which is used wisely as the internal wall of the twin guest cabin and the screen area of the TV snug area to starboard.

Ice founder, Marco Malgara, thinks people don’t tend to move up from 50ft to 60ft but are more likely to opt for this size. “We said if we do a 70-footer it can’t be the same as a 60 but must have a real feeling of luxury,” he explained during our sail. I think his team achieved that handsomely. Numbers two and three are now in build.

This is arguably the definition of today’s luxury fast Med cruiser. Italian designed and built, it performs as its looks might suggest, but crucially, is conceived to be manageable to sail short-handed. It’s ideal then for the sailing its owner does: warm weather, slippery cruising. With its sleek coachroof design and its powerful hull and rig, the Ice 70 steals your attention from the dock, then holds it while moving throughout the boat and leaves the peak rewards for those on the wheel. It’s a premium priced large yacht and looks and feels so. While the yard is able to offer fit and finish flexibility, its collaboration with Felci design ensures the end result really is as smooth as ice.

ICE 70, The Italian ‘Bluewater Fast Cruiser’ Ready For Mini Maxi Races

ice yachts ice 70

The project of the ICE 70 by ICE Yachts  has been realized using the most advanced modeling and analysis software available today. “ Thanks to the new virtual reality ‘tools’ ,” explains Felci Yacht Design , “ we have been able to make the owner and the shipyard participant of many geometric and stylistic choices. It is a yacht with high technological potential, starting from the design of the hull and the appendices “.

With this sporty bluewater sailboat – the ICE 70 debuted at last Cannes Yachting Festival – the Italian yard wanted to create a technologically avant-garde boat with large, comfortable indoor and outdoor spaces, which is easy to sail and entirely safe at sea. Like all ICE Yachts models, the ICE 70 is a semi-custom product with which the owner has many possibilities for customization and equipment.

ice yachts ice 70

The shape of the canoe body is born to obtain top performances to participate in “long-distance” offshore races or to excel in Mini Maxi competitions. The shapes of the hull are characterized by a reduced wet surface and at the same time by high stability of form, both components determining the performance. The lifting keel (4.5 to 2.8 m), makes the Ice 70 easier to use when cruising and at the same time improves performance and stability when sailing or racing.

ICE 70, the exteriors

The deck is the result of an ergonomic and functional study, with a single cockpit, deep enough to increase security. The deck of the Ice 70 is characterized by a squared, flat and slender deckhouse, with large double-layer glass windows, from which the light that illuminates the entire “raised” living room diffuses.

ice yachts ice 70

The cockpit benches are wide and made even more comfortable by the possibility of fixing water-repellent cushions made “by design”, which can be removable and easily stowed in the garage, which also has two entrances from the cockpit.

bluewater sailboats

The deck equipment is laid out in a simple and traditional way: the primary winches and mainsail winches located in a backward position, easily reachable both by the crew and by the helmsman; the mainsail halyard is also remoted near to the aft winches so as to allow it to be hoisted directly staying at the wheel.

It’s interesting to consider all the machinery, such as the main engine, the bow, and stern truster, the anchor and mooring winch, all the hydraulic rams, including the one that operates the lifting keel, and the full deck lighting system can be operated from the console.

The ICE 70 is equipped with a carbon bowsprit, which allows you to tack a gennaker, a zero code as well as being used as anchor arm. The transom is openable to give access to the large garage, in which you can stow a tender of and many other items needed on board.

ice yachts ice 70

ICE 70, the interiors

The bow is a dedicated area to the master cabin, large and elegant with a master bathroom complete with shower and sauna all covered in teak and with a study, and to the guest area consisting of a cabin with double bed and large wardrobes and a dedicated bathroom.

The aft area, organized with the captain’s cabin, communicating with the kitchen area, is completely independent in order to guarantee considerable privacy for the owner and his guests. Typical configuration of maxi yachts of greater dimensions that allows complete privacy between the owner and crew.

The wood veneers used in the furnishing of this first model are natural teak. The inserts that cover the vertical elements and create a continuum in all living spaces are in natural leather. The yard chose to play with the shades of beige and white for the fabrics, with some nuances for the seats and sofas, thus diversifying the two living areas: that of the lighter living area, that of the TV, a darker gradation, to give to this place of relaxation greater intimacy.

Ice 70 RS

Ice 70 RS: the queen of the Blue Water Cruisers is super fast

Minimal Logo

The new Ice 70 RS is one of the most eagerly awaited sailing yachts on the market and, for a proper test, being a journalist is not enough. To properly judge a yacht of this magnitude you must necessarily have been an owner. An owner who, while intensely loving the beauty and comfort of his boat, has the desire to sail fast even in light winds, has the occasional desire to take part in some club regattas or, more simply, wants to enjoy a boat capable of taking him to the next level of performance, the one where he almost always sails at double-digit speeds.

A level that is normally the exclusive prerogative of super yachts but which in this case, as you will see as you read on, in the new Ice 70 RS is within reach of anyone, in the disarming simplicity with which this Blue Water Cruiser makes it possible.

Ice 70 RS Sea Trial

I had the opportunity to test this sailboat for a long time, under the careful guidance of its captain. A man of great experience, both in navigation and construction. This is an essential skill when approaching the construction of an Ice Yachts which, as is well known, is essentially built in custom mode. I am not therefore surprised to find on board a ‘setting’ of rigs designed to simplify the handling of this boat, which, if desired, can also be skippered by its captain alone.

Both wheels are equipped with a set of push buttons that enable almost everything to be done. From here I can tack and trim the jib and mainsail, as well as ‘adjust’ the gennaker, backstay and kicking strap. Having familiarized myself with the controls, I put my hands on the wheel and, in spite of the lack of wind and the rough sea at the end of the first day of trials, Bandido immediately sets off upwind , accelerates quickly and reaches wind speed in no time at all. There will be 5/6 knots of true wind and a good metre of wave, conditions that would normally make us suffer but she, leaning slightly to one side, sails as if nothing had happened. At 40 degrees from apparent, the boat accelerates noticeably and exceeds the wind speed by half a knot; all the prerequisites for really having fun are there. But it is its ability to cut through the waves without slowing down that surprises me, as well as its natural tendency not to roll, even when motoring.

Ice 70 RS 4

Then the wind picks up and stabilizes at 10/12 knots, I bear away to let her pick up speed and Bandido takes off like a rocket. Don’t get me wrong, the boat doesn’t start off like a racing boat that, nervous, swerves and accelerates. It reacts more progressively, without exasperation, in perfect overall balance. In no time at all, however, we are already at over 13 knots which, considering the wind speed and the size of the jib, is a lot…

I sail close to the wind and the inclination increases, at 30 degrees we reach 10.4 knots with less than 10 of true wind. The feeling is that of being able to go anywhere in these conditions, the Ice 70 RS glides over the water and slices through the waves without slowing down, she sails with impressive stability and constancy.

I decide to sail even closer the wind, it is very simple, I press the button that moves the traveller upwind, I give a squeeze to the jib and… and Bandido doesn’t stop, at 20 degrees from the apparent we are still travelling at 8.6 knots. The boat is heeling but doesn’t show any signs of becoming nervous, the rudder remains neutral and I am once again impressed by its performance.

The retractable keel (by Cariboni) takes the draft from 2.8 to an impressive 4.5 metres and, both upwind and in terms of stability, it really makes a difference, especially when combined with a deep rudder like this.

We bear away and close the jib, open the Code 0 and it’s like putting on the turbo. Bandido accelerates and shifts into two more gears. We fly consistently well above 14 knots , touching 15 on more than one occasion. The speed is high but what continues to impress me is the stability and calmness with which we move aboard in these conditions.

This new Ice 70 RS goes like a racer but is as controllable as a Grand Tourer, an overall balance that I have rarely experienced.

The new Ice 70 RS in detail

Assuming that each Ice Yacht is different from the others due to custom construction, Bandido was entirely built on the basis of the requests of its owner who, as you may have guessed from the acronym, wanted an increased sail plan. Made of composite by means of the infusion technique, the new Ice 70 RS makes extensive use of carbon fibre for the hull, deck and structures, thus guaranteeing great sturdiness and considerable safety coefficients. The insulation and soundproofing are superlative; going below deck while sailing, the sensation of peace and silence is utmost, you can barely hear the lapping of the waves. Also remarkable is the construction of the fully retractable dodger and bimini, specific requests from the owner. The cockpit benches are oversized and, taking advantage of the sloping rised saloon, offer two chaise longues that to call them comfortable would be an understatement.

Ice 70 RS 7

The sail plan/deck is simply perfect : self-tacking foremast, low overlap jib and structural bowsprit on which to rig the Code 0 or a large gennaker. This equipment, combined with the mainsail furling in the boom, gives this boat the ability to sail in all weather conditions effortlessly and risk-free. Concealed beneath the deck, furlers and mooring winches make it all very easy without compromising on the superlative design of this maxi yacht, which, again, is truly unrivalled in terms of sheer beauty.

While the performance had won us over, it is on descending into the interior that we get the real surprise. The quality of the workmanship is visible everywhere, the finest woods as well as the leathers used, and the rich equipment and accessories. Further proof of unquestionable quality supremacy. The owner of Bandido here demonstrates superfine taste and great experience in yachts.

On the one hand, the colour combinations that, while remaining modern, preserve a taste for seafaring art that is clearly visible here and, something I fully share, still gives the certainty of being on a boat and not in the minimalist room of a five-star hotel. On the other hand, the interior layout which, unlike those seen on the previous ICE 70, sees the galley arranged in a dinette and a huge full-beam living room that takes your breath away at first glance.

Ice 70 RS

The galley is arranged in an L-shape and is the envy of a villa. It is the focal point of life on board and is inserted, brilliantly and lightly, into the overall design of the dinette. Ingenious is the use of the retractable centreboard bulkhead that is used here to “isolate without concealing” the galley, which even facilitates the insertion of a wonderful L-shaped sofa.

But it is the owner’s suite that really shocks us. The central corridor gives access to the master cabin, which is located forward. The bed is French style, set against the starboard side while to the left is a small private office which, equipped with a swivel chair, dedicated bookcases and a display that replicates the on-board plotters, creates an environment that is as beautiful as it is useful. The head is arranged per beam and is therefore oversized and equipped with a separate shower with a ‘Finnish sauna’ type seat.

But what is really astonishing is the quality of the workmanship, something that is very difficult to explain in words, something that is as satisfying to the eye as it is to the touch. Sensations that are unfortunately very difficult to experience nowadays on modern boats but which, fortunately, this great shipyard has in no way forgotten.

Ice 70: sailing aboard a Stradivarius. Full Sea trial

Minimal White Logo

The new Ice 70 is one of the most eagerly awaited sailing yachts on the market, and being journalists is not enough to judge it correctly.

To be able to judge a yacht of this kind correctly, you have to have been an owner. An owner who, while intensively loving his own boat, has had the experience that allows him to recognize all those little faults which, in the end, often lead you to want to change it, in constant pursuit of that perfection that all experienced owners desire when they are at sea.

Without having followed this path, it would otherwise be impossible to understand how, climbing on board the new Ice 70, even after an arduous search, our indomitable critical spirit was inevitably replaced by an almost total gratification.

This sailing yacht, in fact, represents a quantum leap forward, both for the boatyard and for the “ Blue water cruiser” segment, which until yesterday was dominated by the large, renowned shipyards of Northern Europe and now has a new example to follow.

Ice Yachts and Umberto Felci have succeeded in synthesizing in this boat the quintessence of seafaring, in an almost perfect balance between performance and seaworthiness, beauty and living spaces, building quality and design.

That’s why the new Ice 70 is, in our opinion, the best “blue water cruiser” we’ve tried in recent years. Let’s find out why.

Ice 70 Sea Trial

I had the opportunity to test this sailing boat at length, twice, under the careful guidance of its captain. He is a man of great experience, both in navigation and construction. This is an essential skill when approaching the construction of an Ice yacht which, as is well known, is essentially built in custom mode.

I am therefore not surprised to find on board a “setting” of rigging aimed at simplifying the handling of this boat which, if desired, can also be steered by its captain single-handed.

Ice 70

Test outing, first impressions

Once I was familiar with the controls, I put my hands on the wheel and, despite the little wind and the rough sea that was plaguing the first day of trials, Thalassa immediately set off upwind , accelerates quickly and reaches wind speed in no time. There are 5/6 knots of true wind and a good meter of wave, conditions that would normally make us suffer, but Thalassa, leaning slightly to one side, grinds away as if nothing had happened. At 40 degrees from apparent, the boat accelerates noticeably and exceeds the wind speed by half a knot. The prerequisites for a really good time in optimal conditions are all there.

But it’s her ability to cut through the waves without slowing down that amazes me, as well as her natural tendency not to roll, even when motoring. I make a mental note of these characteristics as we head back to the port. This was a test outing, designed solely to rig the sails for the first time; we’ll be back on board in a few days, with the boat in perfect condition.

Second outing, today it’s for real

We come back one

board after a few days and find the Ice 70 in perfect condition. The bowsprit is already rigged with the rolling Code 0 and there are 7/8 knots of stable wind outside, the sea is slightly rough. We get out of the mooring in no time at all thanks to the two manoeuvring thrusters (bow and stern) and, just as quickly, the furling mainsail in the boom goes aloft, we bear away, unroll the jib and we go.

I bear away to get her up to speed and Thalassa takes off like a rocket.

Don’t get me wrong, she doesn’t start off like a racing boat that swerves and accelerates in a nervous manner. She reacts more progressively, without exasperation, in a perfect overall balance, as a true blue water cruiser should know how to do. In no time, though, we’re already at 8 knots , which, considering the wind speed and the size of the jib, is a lot…

I sail close to the wind and the inclination increases. At 30 degrees, we sail at 7.4 knots with less than 8 of true wind. The feeling is that we can go anywhere in these conditions, the Ice 70 glides over the water and cuts through the waves without slowing down , sailing with impressive stability and consistency.

Ice 70

even closer the wind, it’s very simple, I press the pusher that moves the traveler upwind, I give the jib a squeeze and….and Thalassa does not stop, at 20 degrees from the apparent we are still sailing att 6.6 knots, the boat is heeling but doesn’t seem to get nervous, the rudder remains neutral and I am once again impressed by the performance of this boat.

The retractable (Cariboni-branded) keel takes the draught from 2.8 to an impressive 4.5 metres and, both upwind and in terms of stability, makes a real difference, especially when combined with a rudder as deep as this one (2.8 metres).

I bear away, close the jib, open the Code O and it’s like putting the turbo on. The Thalassa passes the wind speed by quite a bit and kicks into high gear. We are constantly flying at well over 8 knots , almost reaching 9 knots on more than one occasion. The speed is high, but what continues to impress me is the stability and calmness with which we move on board in these conditions.

I reluctantly leave the helm to the next journalist and sit down to write my impressions in my notebook. I smile as the first words appear which, perhaps a little abruptly, best describe the summary of these two days of testing.

“Careful northern shipyards, so dormant in your prestige you didn’t realize that they were happily passing you from downwind.”

Because this new Ice 70, let’s say it without revential fear. sails and is built much better than anything we have tried so far.

About the new Ice 70

While every Ice Yacht is different due to custom construction, Thalassa was built entirely around the specifications of her lucky owner.

Built in composite using the infusion technology, the new Ice 70 makes extensive use of carbon fibre for the hull, deck and structures, thus guaranteeing great sturdiness and remarkable safety coefficients. Insulation and soundproofing are excellent, and when you go below deck during navigation the sensation of peace and silence is maximum, you can barely hear the lapping of the waves.

The fully retractable dodger and the carbon bimini, specifically requested by the owner, are remarkable. The bimini is made from two aerodynamically profiled carbon arches and has internal lighting. The cockpit benches are oversized and, taking advantage of the inclination of the raised saloon, offer two chaises longues that defining comfortable would be an understatement.

The sail/deck plan is simply perfect: self tacking staysail, low overlap jib and structural deflector on which to rig the Code 0 or a large gennaker. This equipment, combined with the mainsail furling in the boom, gives this boat the ability to sail in all weather conditions without effort or risk.Thalassa parte

Luca-Dambrosio-prova-in-mare-1-768x512

Concealed beneath the deck, the furlers and mooring winches make it all very simple without compromising the superbly crafted design of this maxi yacht that, again without fear, is truly unrivalled in terms of beauty.

And if the performance had won us over, it is the interior that delivers the definitive coup de grace. The quality of the workmanship is visible everywhere, with the finest woods and leathers used, and a wealth of equipment and accessories. Further proof of unquestionable quality supremacy.

The owner of the Thalassa here demonstrates excellent taste and extensive nautical experience.

On the one hand, the colour combinations which, while remaining modern, retain a taste for maritime art that is clearly visible here and, which I fully support, still gives you the certainty of being on a boat and not in the minimalist room of a five-star hotel.

On the other hand, the configuration of the interiors that use the entire aft section of the boat to accommodate the galley, the crew quarters and an undoubtedly useful day toilet.

The galley is U-shaped and is the envy of a villa’s one. It is the focal point of life on board, connected directly to the crew quarters via an internal passageway, thus creating a circulation on board worthy of a superyacht.

The dinette is endless and takes advantage of the maximum beam to offer plenty of sofas and seating. The use of the retractable centreboard bulkhead is ingenious, as it is used both to create a second private lounge (from which it is possible to watch the big screen television) and to delimit the boundaries of the VIP cabin, equipped with private head and separate shower.

But it’s the owner’s flat that really astonishes us. The hallway leads to the starboard side to the private bathroom which, as you’d expect, is more than generous in size and has a separate shower with a “Finnish sauna” type seat. Continuing to port there is a small private office which, equipped with a swivel chair, dedicated bookcases and a display replicating the on-board plotters, creates an environment as beautiful as it is useful. Behind it is the owner’s King Size bed, which is enormous and surrounded by niches and windows.

Distinguished above all with unrivalled performance

About The New Ice 72RS

Elegance from the heart of italy..

ICE YACHTS has launched the ICE 70rs, a racer version of the already fast ICE 70. This represents an even more satisfying and faster version of the already ICE 70, the real bestseller of the Cannes Yachting Festival 2021.

The ICE 70rs, developed directly by Umberto Felci’s studio together with the shipyard’s technical staff, is a true fast cruiser of the highest quality, with incredible exploitation of space, a beautiful line, and highly innovative modern interior design. Consequently, the guests are put in the foreground, giving the owner a suite worthy of the name and providing a crew accommodation different from the usual loculus.

Modern design: we are talking about the straight bow inverted (scimitar) with delphiniera made of carbon 1.9m long and stern in Volvo Open 70 style. This is the older brother and the natural development of the ICE 52, another bestseller of ICE Yachts.

On a hydrodynamic level: the water lines and the appendages are this time characterised by a variable draught thanks to the lifting keel with Cariboni hydraulics that provides a draft from 2.80 meters to about 4.40m and are designed to achieve great performances.

With impressive results that highlight the attitude of ICE 70rs, it is able to climb the wind at tight angles and to glide very fast to the bearing gaits by engine, thanks to its 200 horses and the correct disengagement, it reaches and exceeds 11 knots at cruising speed! Besides, with 8 knots in upwind sailing, it reaches 10.2 knots.

These performances are reached thanks to the clever technology used in the construction and the incredible quality of the craftsmanship of the ICE Yachts team who have experience gained in many years of working on award-winning and race-winning yachts.

The shell and the deck are laminated in infusion from a female mold using carbon fibers; the structures always in carbon are laminated in place and also made in infusion, becoming one with hull and deck, eliminating creaks and noises. In addition to the classic gluing, the deck is bonded to the hull as well as all the bulkheads, creating a monolithic and very rigid structure. These choices, in addition to containing the weights, give the boat a solidity and strength able to withstand repeated stresses and heavy loads that are faced even in the most challenging conditions. Moreover, among the many services on board, there are structural carbon tanks for liquids under the flooring of the dinette, super soundproof engine room with double seals on the doors etc.

ice yachts 70

The rudder with shaft forged in autoclave at 7 bar and 145 degrees and carbon blade is studied and designed with cutting-edge technologies allows an impressive control even when the boat is heeling or subjected to heavy aerodynamic loads, always keeping clear the attention to safety, central to both design and construction. The deck is completely in carbon with one-step infusion and epoxy resin, specifically dedicated to sporty owners. This reflects the general lines of Felci Yacht Design projects, combining simplicity and style, elegance and efficiency, comfort and versatility. The cockpit, characterised by large benches and comfortable paramare backrests, is definitely oversize and allows maximum mobility for large crews.

The large garage, a record in its category and almost at the level of that of an 80 footer, is designed to hold an inflated tender of 3.8 meters.

In the garage, two electric winches are provided for the opening of the door and the movement of the tender, always in the pursuit of comfort and ease of use.

ice yachts 70

Thanks to the technologies used for the realisation of the interiors, such as the use of lightened panels, a considerable saving of weight is obtained compared to a traditional realization, without renouncing to the quality of the carpentry work, both in the refinement of finishes and in the excellence of details. The interiors are foreseen in the version with four cabins, three bathrooms, and a large open kitchen.

HSI Philadelphia Investigation Lands Pennsylvania Man 70 Years in Prison for Torture, Weapons Convictions

HARRISBURG, Pa. — An investigation conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Philadelphia, FBI Philadelphia and partner law enforcement agencies resulted in a Pennsylvania man being sentenced to 70 years in prison for torturing an Estonian citizen in the Kurdistan region of Iraq in 2015 and for the illegal export of weapons parts and related services.

Ross Roggio, 55, of Stroudsburg, received the sentence April 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

“The extensive cooperation, information sharing and dedication shown by the law enforcement agencies involved in this investigation has been extraordinary,” said HSI Philadelphia acting Special Agent in Charge. “Roggio’s sentence stands as proof that the United States will investigate and prosecute those that break our laws and violate human rights regardless of where they are committed.”

According to the investigation, Roggio arranged for Kurdish soldiers to abduct and detain the victim at a Kurdish military compound, where he suffocated the victim with a belt, threatened to cut off one of his fingers, and directed Kurdish soldiers to repeatedly beat, choke, tase and otherwise physically and mentally abuse the victim over a 39-day period. The victim was an employee at a weapons factory that Roggio was developing in the Kurdistan region of Iraq that was intended to manufacture automatic rifles and pistols.

“The sentencing today is a testament to not only the diligent work done by law enforcement, both here and overseas, but most importantly, the courage of the victim and witnesses in coming forward,” said FBI Philadelphia Special Agent in Charge Wayne A. Jacobs. “Torture is among the most egregious crimes the FBI investigates. The FBI along with our law enforcement partners will continue to purse justice for victims of these horrendous crimes.”

In connection with the weapons factory project, Roggio exported firearms parts and tools without the required approvals by the U.S. departments of State and Commerce. He also illegally trained foreign people in the operation, assembly and manufacturing of the M4 automatic carbine.

“The sentence imposed by the court demonstrates the seriousness of Ross Roggio’s crimes and brings some measure of justice for his torture victim,” said U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam. “Violence against the dignity and human rights of any victim cannot be tolerated and our office will continue to prioritize and pursue those who would do so in violation of federal law. Ross Roggio was also convicted of United States export laws related to illegally producing firearms in Kurdistan, Iraq. Though more technical in nature, these laws are no less important and are designed to take into account human rights considerations on a larger scale, to limit access to our most sensitive technologies and weapons, and to promote regional stability. I commend all the prosecutors and law enforcement agents who worked tirelessly to bring justice in this matter.”

In May 2023, a federal jury convicted Roggio of 33 counts of torture, conspiracy to commit torture, conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States, exporting weapons parts and services to Iraq without the approval of the State Department, exporting weapons tools to Iraq without the approval of the Commerce Department, smuggling goods, wire fraud and money laundering.

“The illegal export of firearms parts and tools from the United States often goes hand in hand with other criminal activities, such as the charge of torture on which the jury voted to convict the defendant,” said New York Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Carson of the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security’s Office of Export Enforcement. “This sentence sends a strong message to those who wish to illegally traffic in firearms. I commend our law enforcement colleagues for their dedication to bringing justice in this case.”

Roggio was the second defendant to be convicted of torture since the federal torture statute went into effect in 1994.

HSI and the FBI investigated the torture and were joined in the investigation of the arms export violations by the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security’s Office of Export Enforcement.

This investigation was conducted by HSI Philadelphia, FBI Philadelphia and the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security’s Office of Export Enforcement. The case was prosecuted by the Department of Justice Criminal Division’s Human Rights and Special Prosecutions Section and its National Security Division’s Counterintelligence and Export Control Section, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania

The Estonian Internal Security Service, the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs, and the Pennsylvania State Police also provided valuable assistance.

Members of the public who have information about human rights violators in the United States are urged to contact U.S. law enforcement through the HSI tip line at 877-4-HSI-TIP ( 877-447-4847 ).

Learn more about HSI Philadelphia’s mission to increase public safety in our communities on X, formerly known as Twitter, at @HSIPhiladelphia .

HSI is the principal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), responsible for investigating transnational crime and threats, specifically those criminal organizations that exploit the global infrastructure through which international trade, travel and finance move. HSI’s workforce of more than 8,700 employees consists of more than 6,000 special agents assigned to 237 cities throughout the United States, and 93 overseas locations in 56 countries. HSI’s international presence represents DHS’ largest investigative law enforcement presence abroad and one of the largest international footprints in U.S. law enforcement.

Amadeus Description

Built by the famous Dynamique Yachts shipyard, and having undergone a total refit in 2018, S/Y Amadeus was designed to please the most demanding of yachtsmen. Built for smooth sailing, this elegant cutter rigged sloop has a sleek hull design, comfortably reaching top speeds of 12 knots and ensuring excellent sailing performance. S/Y Amadeus has just undergone this past winter (2018) a major refit such as total repaint top to bottom, new rigging (BSI Denmark), Novourania with new Evinrude 75hp outboard, Splash pool, new Bimini/Sprayhood/Awnings, new exterior fabrics and many other enhancements. In 2016 new “North Sails” were placed onboard. The yacht is maintained in excellent condition with a five-star crew year round. Her generous uncluttered teak deck offers plenty of space for sunbathing. The spacious and unique outdoor saloon has two tables seating upto 12 guests and is a perfect setting for outdoor dining and entertainment. Thanks to a special canopy and roll-up windows, the deck saloon has the added attraction that it can be fully enclosed, making it ideal for all weather conditions. Her forward area includes a splash pool and sun bathing area which can also be shaded with a removable awning. From the cockpit, a stairway leads to the light-filled spacious saloon offering ample seating, ideal for relaxing or enjoying a drink from the bar, and offers a formal dining area. This area also includes a LCD TV, entertainment center, ipod dock station, playstation, and is ideal for indoor activities. She can accommodate 10-12 guests in one full width master stateroom, two double bedded cabins each having one extra single bed and two twin bedded cabins which can be easily converted to double beds (upon request), thus, making her the only 5 double bedded sailboat in the Greek market. She also has a nice selection of toys which include water ski (adult and children), tubes, inflatable canoes, wakeboard, fishing rod and snorkeling gear.
