Weeks after two cast members were fired on Below Deck Down Under for sexual assault, another scandal hits the franchise — this time, involving Below Deck Sailing Yacht ‘s Gary King .

King, who has been a First Officer on Below Deck Sailing Yacht since Season 2, was accused of sexual misconduct by production member Samantha Suarez in a report by Rolling Stone on August 24, 2023. Suarez, who joined the franchise as a makeup department crew member in Below Deck Season 10, claimed that King tried to force himself on her while filming Below Deck Sailing Yacht in Sardinia, Italy, in the summer of 2022. She alleged that she and King met for the first time when the cast and crew arrived in Sardinia to film Season 4.

Rolling Stone reported that the cast and crew both stayed at the same hotel, the DoubleTree by Hilton Olbia-Sardinia, before filming started, and for a few “dark days” before the season, no. one in production or the cast worked. Along with doing hair and makeup for the cast, Suarez said that she also assisted the series’ talent manager with making sure the cast members were sequestered in their hotel rooms and didn’t talk to each other until filming started. She was also tasked with bringing food and water to the cast members as they weren’t allowed to leave their rooms due to COVID-19 protocols.

Gary King - Below Deck Sailing Yacht

On a “dark day” in July 2022, Suarez claimed that she accompanied a drunk King back to his hotel room after he filmed interviews for Below Deck Sailing Yacht , where producers allegedly provided him with alcohol. “There is no limit to alcohol consumption whatsoever, which I think poses a really big problem,” she told Rolling Stone . Once they arrived at his hotel room, Suarez claimed that King behaved erratically and started yelling outside his balcony to other cast members to try to find where their rooms were. She claimed that she tried to keep King in his room but eventually told him that she needed to leave to assist other cast members.

Suarez claimed that King allegedly suggested that she get in bed with him and continued to ask her not to leave his hotel room. After a few minutes, Suarez left King’s room and told him that she would return later to get get him water and snacks. When she knocked on his door later that night, King allegedly answered it in his underwear and continued to ask her to stay. “I was like, ‘I have to go — I need to go bring other people water and food,’ and he’s like, ‘No, no, please,’” Suarez said. “So I stepped into the room to set the case of waters down and again, he’s repeating, ‘Don’t leave,’ and I was like, ‘I have to go, I’m not staying.’”

She alleged that when she turned to the door, King came up behind her, grabbed her, pressed her body against his and refused to let her go as she tried to kick and elbow him to get off of her. After she managed to escape, Suarez claimed that she tried to open the door to leave before King allegedly slammed the door shut from behind her. “At that point, I didn’t know what was going to happen. I was freaking out,” Suarez said. “It just happened so fast.” At that moment, Suarez claimed she received a call from the talent manager and answered it, which is when King let her go. “I’m freaking out, and he goes, ‘What’s wrong? What’s going on?’ And I’m like, ‘Just leave me alone,'” she said. “He tried to come up behind me and put his arm around me. He’s in the hallway in his underwear and it’s all weird and f— up, and so I’m just like, ‘Just go back in your room and don’t come out.’”

Gary King - Below Deck Sailing Yacht

Suarez told Rolling Stone that she immediately told producers about what happened. The next day, a co-executive producer reached out to ask her about the incident. She then had another meeting with the same producer, as well as executive producers Courtland Cox and Vivian Choi and Below Deck Sailing Yacht ‘s talent manager, in which she told him that she didn’t feel comfortable to be around King or do his hair and makeup. She claimed that Cox apologized for King’s behavior and said that the producers would have a conversation with him. Cox also allegedly assured Suarez that King would be fired from the show if any other incidents occurred. “It pretty much sucked from there on out,” Suarez said. “I was just in a super depressive state.”

After Rolling Stone ‘s report, fans have called for King to be fired from Below Deck Sailing Yacht . “Everybody read the article about Gary and multiple sexual assaults. Not surprising AT ALL,” one user commented on Gary’s Instagram post. Another user commented, “What about when your MUA asks you not to touch her, Gary??”

The report also comes weeks after two cast members were fired from Below Deck Down Under following another sexual harassment scandal. Bosun Luke Jones was fired on Below Deck Down Under Season 2, Episode 7, after he got after he got in bed naked with Third Stewardess Margot Sisson while she was asleep and passed out drunk from a crew night out. That same episode, Second Stewardess Laura Bileskaline was fired for her continued sexual advances toward Deckhand Adam Kodra and her insensitive comments to Sisson following Jones’ firing.

King declined to comment on his sexual harassment scandal to Rolling Stone . In a statement, a spokesperson for Bravo, which airs the Below Deck franchise, confirmed that Suarez’s claims were investigated. “Bravo is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for cast and crew on our reality shows,” the statement read. “We require our third-party production companies to have appropriate workplace policies and trainings in place and a clear process on how to report concerns. The concerns Ms. Suarez raised in July 2022 were investigated at that time and action was taken based on the findings.”

Gary King - Below Deck Sailing Yacht

A spokesperson for 51 Minds Entertainment, the production company behind the Below Deck franchise, also confirmed Suarez’s complaints were looked into. “51 Minds is committed to providing an environment in which every member of the casts and crews on our productions feel respected and, most importantly, safe,” the spokesperson said. “51 Minds provides mandatory harassment and sensitivity training for every series it produces at the outset of each new season and lays out a clear process on how and to whom to report any questionable activity.”

The spokesperson continued, “With any complaint filed, a timely investigation is launched and, based on the findings, appropriate actions are implemented to ensure the safety of our cast and crew, up to and including termination. With regard to the incident reported by Ms. Suarez involving Mr. King, the case was investigated and reviewed as soon as it was submitted, and production acted accordingly based on the results.”

Rolling Stone also published Suarez’s email to Zach Klein, the COO of 51 Minds Entertainment, in which she recalled King’s behavior toward her. “[King] comes up behind me, puts his arms around me, holds me against his body, physically restraining me from leaving, and says stuff like no don’t go,” she wrote in the email. “I get out of his grip, tell him again that I have to leave, that I am not staying, and I go reach for the door knob and he comes over and puts both his hands on the door, with his whole weight, to push it shut. This whole time he’s laughing. I ask him to please let me out of the room, that I have to go. I then get a phone call from [the talent manager]. He sees and hears that I answer and he finally moves away from the door, allowing me to open it. I step outside, not even able to listen to what [the talent manager] is saying to me because I’m so overwhelmed at that point, and Gary grabs his room key, comes out of his room, again, is only in his underwear, letting the door close behind him.”

Suarez continued in her email, “Now that I’ve been able to sit down and process the situation little by little the past couple of days, I realize that I am not okay. It feels like it was taken more as a misunderstanding, than it was as a physical assault/sexual harassment… My feelings/emotions about what happened feel diminished. I can’t help but think, had it been a crew member, it would have been handled differently. I honestly feel quite traumatized by the whole situation.”

Suarez also claimed that an HR representative for 51 Minds’ parent company, Banijay America, told her not to talk about the incident with other crew members because “it was becoming water cooler talk” on the set and it seemed like Suarez was “trying to rally the troops” against the show. After the incident, Suarez claimed that she only saw King in passing a couple times, but never directly interacted or communicated to him.

Another crew member, who remained anonymous because they still work on Below Deck, told Rolling Stone that they’ve also witnessed King “constantly” make women on set feel uncomfortable. “He’s next-level scary with women,” they said. A second crew member, who also remained anonymous, told Rolling Stone that they witnessed King grab a female cast member’s butt and touch her inappropriately even though she said, “No.” The crew member also claimed that, while filming at a beach club in Sardinia, they saw King grab another crew member’s genitals. The crew member alleged that they reported the issue on a walkie talkie to the control room with producers and heard no response back. “The girl was literally saying, ‘No, stop, don’t,’” the crew member says. “I’m explaining this over my walkie and no one’s acknowledging it.”

The crew member continued, “It was insane. There were multiple incidents of sexual harassment in front of multiple producers after this person had been given verbal warnings multiple times.” The crew member also claimed that the incidents were filmed but didn’t air on Bravo. “I had to promote and make this guy who just assaulted someone look awesome,” the crew member said. “That was my job, to make this person look cool, capable, and exciting.”

Suarez, for her part, also accused production of not doing enough to hold King accountable. “You’re an executive producer on the show and you’re not even worried that your cast member put his hands on me and is being a creep currently while being on TV?” Suarez said. “Somebody shouldn’t be able to keep a platform for being a gross creep.”

She continued, “Nobody knew how to handle [my situation] and I think that’s why it was handled so poorly, because nobody knew what to do or what the right thing to do was. I was told there weren’t any protocols and the only thing was to reach out to HR but even then, nothing was really happening. Why can’t you just get on TV and be like, ‘Gary had to be removed from the show for his misconduct?’ If anything, that would make me respect the producers and the show and everything a lot more if they were just honest instead of trying to sweep things under the rug, which is what feels like happened.”

10 soap stars who need to be a Real Housewives

Nancy Lee Grahn, who plays Alexis Davis on General Hospital, would definitely stir the pot if she was on The Real Housewives. Anyone who follows her on social media knows she is very outspoken and not afraid of confrontation. She’d likely become the center of some kind of controversy before long because of what she might say.

katherine kelly lang new grandma bold and beautiful

Katherine Kelly Lang, who plays Brooke Logan on Bold & Beautiful, already owns a Beverly Hill boutique, Benheart. Seeing many of the other housewives also have their own boutiques and fashion lines, she would be a perfect fit! It would also be delicious to see how her on-screen rivalry with Shauna Fulton, played by Denise Richards, translates off-screen.

Michelle Stafford

Young & Restless’ Michelle Stafford has her own skincare line, Skin Nation, so we think she’d fit in perfectly with the other housewives. She’s also raising her children on her own, something she could bond with Kyle Richards, who was also raised by a single mother. Richards’ mom even became manager to two of her daughters, Kyle and Kim Richards, who became child actresses.

chrishell-stause-paparazzi-walking-dog-poop

Sure Chrishell Stause is already starring in Netflix’s Selling Sunset, but many of the other housewives juggle other projects. And seeing the drama she’s gone through this past year with her marriage to This is Us’ Justin Hartley falling apart, she could really let loose and get crazy as a Beverly Hills housewife. Plus she knows how to deal with snarky women already as we’ve seen on her Netflix show.

With Kristian Alfonso out as Hope Brady on Days of our Lives, perhaps The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills could be her next gig. Plus it would reunite her with her former co-star Lisa Rinna, who played Billie Reed and one of Hope’s biggest rivals for Bo Brady’s love and attention. Days of our Lives fans would eat up seeing how these two interact off-screen.

Kelly Monaco gh sam gallery jp

General Hospital’s Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall) is no stranger to reality television, having competed twice on Dancing with the Stars and appearing on the short-lived series Dirty Soap. We imagine Monaco would be a more calm and down to earth housewife, probably someone who would connect with Teddi Mellencamp. Of course when push comes to shove, we could see her turning into a real firework if need be.

days of our lives camila banus bad bunny instagram

Camilla Banus, who plays fashion mogul Gabi Hernandez on Days of our Lives, would be a breath of fresh air on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She’d bring some youth to the show, as well as her fiery Latina personality. Banus has been known to go off on her haters on social media, so we think she could hold her own with the ladies on the show.

Victoria Rowell of Young and the Restless

Former Young & Restless actress Victoria Rowell (Drucilla Winters) has long been outspoken and an advocate for more representation of people of color on daytime. She remains a fan favorite to this day, and would no doubt bring some strong opinions to the ladies of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The show just this season added its first African American housewife, Haitian born actress Garcelle Beauvais.

Laura Wright from General Hospital

Laura Wright, who plays Carly Corinthos on General Hospital, would fit right in on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She and her former husband owned a winery, and the women on the show definitely love their wine. She also likes to remain fit and active but also is trained in meditation, so perhaps she can help the ladies find some inner peace at tense times. Of course, playing one of the biggest hypocrites on General Hospital, she hopefully has a lot of experience spotting one in real life.

Jacqueline MacInnes Wood anniversary B&B

Jacqueline MacInnes Wood plays a fashion designer Steffy Forrester on Bold & Beautiful, so we think she’d fit right in with the other fashionistas on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Being the mother of a one-year-old, she’d probably bond with Teddi Mellencamp, who is pregnant with her third child, and Dorit Kemsley who also has two small children.

‘Below Deck’ Accused of Covering Up Gary King’s Sexual Misconduct

By Krystie Lee Yandoli

Krystie Lee Yandoli

Bravo ’s Below Deck was recently lauded for its handling of sexual misconduct when a producer on Below Deck Down Under broke the “fourth wall” and intervened when one cast member, Luke Jones, tried to get into bed naked with another cast member, Margot Sisson, without her consent while she was inebriated and passed out. Not only was Luke fired from the show, but their fellow cast member and stewardess, Laura Bileskalne, was also let go because of victim-blaming comments she made to Margot about the incident and her own line-crossing pursuit of deckhand Adam Kodra.

While viewers and fans of the show applauded the pivotal on-screen moment, production crew members who have worked on the popular, Emmy-nominated franchise say they’ve experienced and witnessed sexual harassment and misconduct from other cast members behind the scenes without seeing any real accountability.

Suarez says she met King for the first time when the cast and crew arrived in Sardinia in preparation to film the fourth season. Crew members stayed in the same hotel, the DoubleTree by Hilton Olbia-Sardinia, for the whole duration of filming. Cast members joined them and stayed in the same hotel prior to filming charters on the yacht and on the few “dark days” during the season when no one in production or the cast worked.

In addition to doing hair and makeup for the cast, Suarez says she assisted the talent manager with day-to-day tasks including making sure cast members were sequestered in their hotel rooms and didn’t bump into one another. It was also Suarez’s job to bring food and water to cast members’ rooms since they weren’t allowed to leave their own hotel rooms because of Covid protocols, and to preserve as much authenticity around the cast’s interactions as possible. Suarez, a 27-year-old who’s based in Atlanta, says she told producers when everyone first arrived in Sardinia that some of the cast members, including King, were being difficult and refused to stay isolated in their hotel rooms like they were instructed to.

“There is no limit to alcohol consumption whatsoever, which I think poses a really big problem,” she says.

Suarez says when King asked her not to leave she joked with him that she would sit outside of his door to make sure he wouldn’t leave his hotel room. According to Suarez, King then suggested she get in bed with him and repeatedly asked her not to leave his room even though she says he was aware that she was in a relationship with someone else. After a few minutes, she insisted she had to leave and help other cast members, telling King she would return later to drop off snacks and water. She says when she went back to King’s room with a case of water bottles and a bag of snacks, she knocked on the door and King answered the door in his underwear. She says she asked King to take the case of water out of her hands and he continued to ask her not to leave his hotel room.

“I was like, ‘I have to go — I need to go bring other people water and food,’ and he’s like, ‘No, no, please,’” Suarez says. “So I stepped into the room to set the case of waters down and again, he’s repeating, ‘Don’t leave,’ and I was like, ‘I have to go, I’m not staying.’”

When she turned toward the door, Suarez says King came up behind her, grabbed her, pressed her against his body, and refused to let go of her even though she says she tried to kick and elbow him to get him off her. She says she managed to get out of his grasp and went to open the door to leave. Then she says King slammed the door shut from behind her.

“At that point, I didn’t know what was going to happen. I was freaking out,” Suarez says. “It just happened so fast.”

“I’m freaking out, and he goes, ‘What’s wrong? What’s going on?’ And I’m like, ‘Just leave me alone.’ He tried to come up behind me and put his arm around me. He’s in the hallway in his underwear and it’s all weird and fucked up, and so I’m just like, ‘Just go back in your room and don’t come out.’”

“I’m freaking out, and he goes, ‘What’s wrong? What’s going on?’ And I’m like, ‘Just leave me alone.’“

Suarez says she immediately told producers what happened following the incident when she saw them in the production office. The next day, she says a co-executive producer reached out to her and they had a conversation about what happened. After Suarez spoke with the co-executive producer she says she had another meeting with him, executive producers Courtland Cox and Vivian Choi, as well as the show’s talent manager. She says she told the producers she didn’t feel comfortable being around King, she didn’t want to do his hair or makeup, and she didn’t want to be alone with him or in the same room as him. She says Cox apologized to her and said the producers would have a conversation with King, assuring Suarez that King would be fired from the show if any other incidents occurred. She says the next day producers removed King from the hotel where the rest of the cast and crew members were staying and for the rest of the “dark days” during filming, he was instructed to sleep on the boat.

“It pretty much sucked from there on out,” Suarez says. “I was just in a super depressive state.”

King declined to comment for this story. A spokesperson for Bravo told Rolling Stone in a statement, “Bravo is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for cast and crew on our reality shows. We require our third-party production companies to have appropriate workplace policies and trainings in place and a clear process on how to report concerns. The concerns Ms. Suarez raised in July 2022 were investigated at that time and action was taken based on the findings.”

A spokesperson for 51 Minds Entertainment, Below Deck ’s production company, added, “51 Minds is committed to providing an environment in which every member of the casts and crews on our productions feel respected and, most importantly, safe. 51 Minds provides mandatory harassment and sensitivity training for every series it produces at the outset of each new season and lays out a clear process on how and to whom to report any questionable activity.”

According to Saurez, she stayed inside her hotel room for a week following the incident with King and didn’t immediately return to work because she says she was upset, depressed, and her mental health declined; she says she even debated going home and not finishing out the rest of the season.

At the time, Suarez also reached out to Zach Klein, the COO of 51 Minds Entertainment, to report the incident. In emails reviewed by Rolling Stone , Suarez detailed the incident to Klein and wrote:

“[King] comes up behind me, puts his arms around me, holds me against his body, physically restraining me from leaving, and says stuff like no don’t go. I get out of his grip, tell him again that I have to leave, that I am not staying, and I go reach for the door knob and he comes over and puts both his hands on the door, with his whole weight, to push it shut.

Suarez continued in the email to Klein, “Now that I’ve been able to sit down and process the situation little by little the past couple of days, I realize that I am not okay. It feels like it was taken more as a misunderstanding, than it was as a physical assault/sexual harassment… My feelings/emotions about what happened feel diminished. I can’t help but think, had it been a crew member, it would have been handled differently. I honestly feel quite traumatized by the whole situation.”

Later in the season, Suarez says the HR representative also asked her not to talk about the incident with other production staffers because “it was becoming water cooler talk” on set and it seemed like Suarez was “trying to rally the troops” against the show. Saurez says she wasn’t even alongside her fellow crew members in the week following the incident but because of her absence, people reached out to her and asked her why she wasn’t on set. Suarez says she told the HR representative that she explained what happened to the people who reached out to her and asked for clarification about whether or not she was “allowed” to talk about the incident with her colleagues. Suarez says the rep told her yes, she was allowed to, but discouraged her from doing it.

In later conversations, Suarez says she expressed to executive producers that she was upset about how the situation was addressed. She says executive producers responded by saying they originally offered to fire King from the show when the alleged incident happened. Suarez says she wanted leadership to make that decision based on the information they had and not put the responsibility on her to say whether or not she wanted King fired, especially since she didn’t actually have the power to enforce that decision. After the incident, Suarez says she only saw King in passing a couple of times around the hotel but that they never directly interacted or communicated.

Rolling Stone spoke to two other crew members who worked in production with Suarez at the time of the incident. They say Suarez told them about the alleged incident during filming. One of the crew members, who requested to remain anonymous because they still work on the series, tells Rolling Stone they heard about the incident when they were filming. They also say they’ve “constantly” witnessed King make other women on set uncomfortable with his aggressive pursuit of them.

Three other people who did not work for 51 Minds Entertainment, NBC, or Below Deck spoke to Rolling Stone and say that Suarez told them about the alleged incident with King at the time.

Another crew member who requested anonymity out of fear of repercussions tells Rolling Stone later in this same season, they witnessed King grab a female cast member’s butt and continue to touch her inappropriately even though she said, “No,” and told him to stop. While filming at a beach club in Sardinia, the crew member says King was inebriated and they also witnessed King grab another production crew member’s genitals. During off days in between charters, Below Deck typically films cast members partying on and off the boat in their free time. It’s common to see cast members drunk and engage in sexual activity with one another on camera.

The crew member says they reported the issue on their walkie talkie, which they use to communicate with the executive producer, director, and other people working in the control room. According to production crew members, there’s a control room set up in one of the guest rooms on the boat where producers monitor live footage. When they’re filming on location off the boat, they set up an area nearby that acts as a control room.

“The girl was literally saying, ‘No, stop, don’t,’” the crew member says. “I’m explaining this over my walkie and no one’s acknowledging it.”

“The girl was literally saying, ‘No, stop, don’t.’ I’m explaining this over my walkie and no one’s acknowledging it.“

They say a producer eventually approached King and told him to stop. After the producer spoke to him, the crew member says King walked over to a camera operator who was on a break and grabbed his genitals.

“It was insane. There were multiple incidents of sexual harassment in front of multiple producers after this person had been given verbal warnings multiple times,” they say.

The crew member says these incidents were filmed but didn’t air on television. They say they’re not sure what happened to the footage of King’s alleged behavior or other footage that the production company doesn’t end up using for TV. Typically, the crew member says, producers and editors have access to raw footage filmed in the field at least until the editing stage.

“I had to promote and make this guy who just assaulted someone look awesome,” they say. “That was my job, to make this person look cool, capable, and exciting.”

“You’re an executive producer on the show and you’re not even worried that your cast member put his hands on me and is being a creep currently while being on TV?” Suarez says. “Somebody shouldn’t be able to keep a platform for being a gross creep.”

Productions’ handling of the incident with King exhibited a pattern to Suarez who says she told a producer about a separate incident that allegedly occurred when she filmed Below Deck Season 10. She says she was put in charge of accompanying the male cast members from a car to their hotel and bosun Ross McHarg made her feel uncomfortable.

“He was just making these weird, lewd, sexual, gross comments toward me to the point where the other boys in the car were like, ‘Shut up Ross, why are you saying these things to her?’” Suarez says. “There was stuff like that that I expressed to production as well and, you know, nothing happened thereafter.” (McHarg did not respond to requests for comment.)

Suarez says she told a producer about the alleged comments but did not formally report it or file a complaint with HR. A spokesperson for 51 Minds Entertainment also confirmed Suarez did not file a formal complaint with HR. Once the production company was made aware of the allegation when Rolling Stone reached out for comment on this story, they said they initiated an investigation into the alleged incident.

According to Suarez and three other staffers who worked in production for Below Deck , someone from HR delivers a sexual harassment and cultural sensitivity training before each season. Producers also allegedly tell staffers if something goes awry during filming to communicate it on their walkie talkies and someone in the control room will respond. At the beginning of the season, crew members say they’re also explicitly told not to break the “fourth wall” and interact with cast members under any circumstances.

Inspired by the SAG strike, former Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel has been vocal about what she calls the mistreatment of reality stars by networks and her desire for talent to unionize for better protections. Earlier in August, lawyers on behalf of a handful of unnamed reality stars sent a letter to NBCUniversal accusing the company of manipulation, covering up instances of sexual violence, and other claims regarding their reality shows. The purpose of the letter was to ask NBCUniversal to hold possible evidence ahead of litigation.

Suarez also thinks there should be protocols for crew members to follow when they witness or experience sexual harassment or misconduct from a cast member or anyone else on set.

“Nobody knew how to handle [my situation] and I think that’s why it was handled so poorly, because nobody knew what to do or what the right thing to do was. I was told there weren’t any protocols and the only thing was to reach out to HR but even then, nothing was really happening,” Suarez says.

“Why can’t you just get on TV and be like, ‘Gary had to be removed from the show for his misconduct?’ If anything, that would make me respect the producers and the show and everything a lot more if they were just honest instead of trying to sweep things under the rug, which is what feels like happened.”

Who Is Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Gary King?

'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' cast member Gary King sitting on boat

The first episode of Season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht aired on Bravo on March 1, and viewers were introduced to an (almost) entirely new cast during the show's premiere.

One of the new cast members of the hit Below Deck spin-off series is first mate Gary King, who made a bit of a splash after he discussed his relationship status and his policy on hooking up with fellow crew members with new castmates, Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux and Colin Macrae.

"I live by one thing, though," King tells Macrae and Cerza Lanaux. "That you don't screw the crew."

Gary King's bold admission is a shock to his crew members — all of whom are single , including himself.

After the season premiere, fans of the show are curious to know more about the man who reportedly refuses to hook up with his fellow crew members — keyword: Reportedly, as previews for the season show King caught up in a love triangle with crew members Alli Dore and Dani Soares (via YouTube ).

Gary King's travels have taken him all over the world

One scroll through King's Instagram will show you that the man lives for traveling!

His earliest posts date back to the summer of 2013, and it should come as no surprise that King has been sailing and traveling around the world for years (via Instagram ).

On his page, he's chronicled his adventures in Spain, Greece, Cuba, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, and more.

While it's quite obvious King has a love of the ocean and all things traveling, he's also a total family man and is a softie when it comes to spending time with his adorable little niece, who he occasionally posts pictures of.

And, regardless of the drama the highly-anticipated second season of the show reportedly brings, it looks like King and his fellow crew members had the time of their lives filming.

"Can not believe it's less than a month until you can catch all us crazies doing what we do best on #belowdecksailing. You honestly don't want to miss seeing what we got up to!!" he wrote in an Instagram post on Feb. 2, less than a month before the Season 2 premiere.

You wouldn’t know it from watching “Below Deck Sailing Yacht,” but Gary King likes to have space to himself. Before he starts the summer charter season, he likes to book a hotel room for a few days. “If I can have my own space, and just relax a little bit, it makes the season a lot easier,” says the 33-year-old via video chat from a hotel room in Sardinia he’s booked for precisely this purpose.

King, who is from South Africa, has just finished a day of work aboard Parsifal III, the 177-foot sailing yacht that provides a setting for some of the most outrageous antics in the Bravo universe .

Each show in the dangerously habit-forming “Below Deck” franchise follows the hard-partying crew members and demanding guests aboard yachts in exotic destinations around the world, from the Caribbean to the South Pacific. Now in its third season, “Sailing Yacht” is arguably the most dramatic incarnation of “Below Deck,” thanks to tighter living quarters, wind-tossed working conditions and adventure-hungry crew members.

King, who joined “Sailing Yacht” in Season 2, has become the show’s breakout star, a mischievous charmer with a tousled man bun and a husky smoker’s voice who is almost bafflingly irresistible to his female co-workers. (King has hooked up with nearly all the women in the Parsifal III crew as they sailed the Balearic Islands of Spain this season, but his abundant chemistry with plucky chief steward Daisy Kelliher is what has viewers in a frenzy.)

In other words, King makes for great TV. But he also happens to be very good at his other job, as the Parsifal’s first mate; this season viewers saw King spring into action when the yacht nearly ran aground during an early morning wind storm.

A couple standing by a dinghy by the shore

King has always gravitated to the water. Growing up in Knysna, a city in South Africa known for its large lagoon, he’d often hitchhike to the beach after school. “My mom would come and pick me up after work. I’d see her sitting in a car when it was getting dark flashing her lights at me,” he recalls. He became a “yachtie” by accident: During a gap year in Majorca, he learned quickly the South African rand doesn’t go very far in Europe. Unwilling to ask his mom, a single parent, for money, he decided to go “dock-walking.”

“It’s the most demoralizing thing in the world,” he says. “You go from one boat to another: ‘Hi, do you have work for me?’ ‘No.’ ‘Hi, do you have work for me?’ ‘No.’” Eventually, he got a job on Creole , “a lovely old classic schooner built in 1927,” and he hasn’t looked back since. “I kept getting paid to travel and I was making good money. Here I am, 12 years later.” King says the hardest part of yachtie life is being a hemisphere away from his family: His mom is in South Africa, his brother in New Zealand.

The job also makes it hard to settle down — something King swears he wants to do sooner rather than later. Mostly, though, he’s eager to film more “Sailing Yacht,” should the powers-that-be at Bravo decide to bring him back for another sail. (The network has not yet made any announcements about Season 4; King says he didn’t get the call about Season 3 until a few weeks before it began filming.)

How ‘The Real Housewives’ glam arms race gets its cast into hot water

Bravo’s glittery reality franchise has always encouraged competitive consumption. But cast members’ financial ‘smoke and mirrors’ can lead to trouble.

June 22, 2021

Tell me how you ended up on “Below Deck Sailing Yacht.” Had you heard about the show before you were cast?

If you work on boats, you hear about “Below Deck,” but I don’t actually watch any reality TV to be honest. I’d never watched the show prior to getting cast.

There’s a woman named Diana Wallace. She’s the casting agent. She joins yachtie pages all over Europe and the States. And then she just sends [messages] out to random people. So I received a few messages from her asking me to be on the show. I was like, “It’s COVID. What’s the worst that can happen?” Never thought I was gonna get the job. Done two seasons and never looked back.

Do you watch the show now?

Some episodes. I send them to my mom. She’s my number one fan and my number one critic, so she’ll let me know which episodes I have to watch. She’ll be like, “Gary, I wasn’t very happy with you on that episode.” Then I go watch it and see what I did wrong. My mom’s proud of me but she’s also like, “Gary, come on. This is not how I brought you up.” Obviously, I’m a mother’s boy.

What has been the hardest thing for you to watch back?

Just hooking up with girls on TV. It’s a little bit cringe. Also just getting drunk on TV. It comes with the industry. We need to blow off some steam. But I don’t think it’s a very good look, us being so pissed while on TV.

How do the yachties on the show compare to those in real life? Is everyone really as crazy as they are on “Below Deck”?

I think the yachties in real life are a lot crazier than they are on “Below Deck.” If “Below Deck” actually knew exactly what went on on boats, this show would go on for thousands of episodes.

So you think “Below Deck” is tamer than real life?

To a certain extent, yes. There are some things that are far-fetched [on the show], like the charter guest, Chuck [who said he could get better food at a ballpark and left a terrible tip]. You wouldn’t really have a charter guest that would say something like that, because these people have got class, and [outside of the show] they’re paying upwards of $200,000 a week to charter this boat. But how the crew parties afterwards — that’s pretty accurate. I’ve heard stories that I don’t really want to share but are a lot worse than what happens on “Below Deck.”

So the guests in real life are not as bad as the ones on Bravo?

As a rule. On sailing boats, I think the guests have got more class. They come from old money. But friends that have worked on motorboats, some of the stories they’ve told me it’s like, “How could you even work on that boat?” But a charter’s a charter. You work for a week, you kind of forget all the bull— that happened because you’ve got a €5,000 tip.

A group of people on the deck of a yacht

How would you describe the difference between people who work on sailing yachts and people who work on motor yachts? Are there stereotypes about these groups?

People on a motorboat, they’re just there for the paycheck. Any motorboat you work on is pretty much the same. Whereas in a sailing boat, we’re out there for the adventure. We’re going from A to B sailing, getting propelled by the elements. And I find the clientele come for the experience on a sailing boat. If you’ve got money, any Tom, Dick or Harry can go charter a motorboat.

Do you get this attention from women when you are on dry land?

Well, clearly not, because I’m still single. I don’t know what it is about the boats.

It’s a tough industry for relationships.

For sure. I was actually chatting to Glenn [Shephard, the captain] today about going on rotation [after the summer charter season is over], maybe do three months on, three months off, so I can start settling down, try and meet someone. I can’t really commit to anyone when I’m going to leave in a week’s time. I’m starting to wig out about it: Am I going to be single for the rest of my life? I grew up without a father, and I want to make sure that I’m there for my kids, if I ever have the chance to have kids one day.

Fans are definitely shipping you and Daisy, as you surely know. What’s going on between you two?

I’ve definitely got a soft spot for Daisy. We still chat often. When I was in London, we had lunch together. We have a great relationship. But also, after watching that episode where she told the charter guests, “I would never date Gary. I’m not an idiot,” that hurt me a little bit. This is maybe my problem. When I like a girl, they don’t feel the same way for me. And vice versa. Because that’s what happened with me and Ashley this season. That’s another reason why I keep thinking, “Am I going to be single for the rest of my life?”

So you were genuinely hurt when she said that?

100%. I’m not gonna force anything to happen between Daisy and I. I definitely have chemistry with her, whether she agrees with that or not. But things like that [comment] hurt a little bit. Maybe she was just trying to make a joke in front of the charter guests. I just think her wording could have been different if it was a joke.

Do you think maybe she was being defensive?

Possibly, I don’t want to look too much into it. But I’m single. I’ve got a lot of time to think about things.

A lot of viewers were upset by your encounter with Ashley Marti and thought her behavior towards you constituted sexual assault because you were drunk. You have repeatedly said that you don’t feel this way. But did that incident make you reflect on the hook-up culture in your industry and the difficulties of drawing boundaries when you live and work with people in such close quarters?

I’m not proud of all my actions [this season]. And I don’t ever want to do that again. That Ashley scenario was a big realization for me.

I want the next girl who I start hooking up with to maybe be my girlfriend. I haven’t had a girlfriend for five years now. I can’t remember what it feels like. I don’t want to just hook up with girls and have one-night stands. I say that now, but if I come back for another season, who knows what will happen. [laughs]

There must be some tension there for you — trying to be a better person but also wanting to be entertaining .

I’d like to [come back for another season] because then I could show people that I have turned over a new leaf and there is a different side to me than just hooking up with chicks. Most of my best friends are females. But on Instagram , people say I’m a womanizer, which is the furthest thing from the truth.

Are there things you do differently when the cameras aren’t there?

We definitely wouldn’t sail before they’ve had breakfast. That’s ridiculous. But also, the charter guests on [the show] only have three days, two nights. They’re still paying a lot of money to be on the boat. They want to sail as much as possible.

I don’t hook up with my stewardesses off-camera [that much], believe it or not. It’s happened once or twice, but it’s not like it happens on the TV show. Also, we don’t go out every three nights, because we’ll have a 10-day charter, and then [a few days for] turnaround, then a seven-day charter. We’ll be lucky if we can all go ashore to have a dinner and have a few glasses of wine.

Colin MacRae, Barnaby Birkbeck and Gary King in "Below Deck Sailing Yacht"

What’s your favorite place to sail?

I absolutely love Greece. There is always wind. You can always find an island that has no one else around. The water is beautiful. The food is just phenomenal.

Glenn has a very interesting leadership style compared to some of the other captains in the “Below Deck” universe, who are a bit tougher. How would you describe it?

Glenn is very gentle. But also I’d say Glenn leads by example. If someone makes a mistake, Glenn would be the first person to say, “Listen, you make mistakes, you’re only human.” He’s just so patient and so humble. I think everyone needs a Glenn in their life, to be honest with you.

You and Colin have a very entertaining rapport.

We are like chalk and cheese. He’s very sensible and I’m not. He thinks before he speaks; I don’t. I think we both live vicariously through each other, me doing silly things, and Colin being the sensible person who I can always look up to. I actually just spoke to him yesterday, telling him I miss him. It’s such a bromance. As soon as we chat, it’s like, “Hey, loser. How’s it going?”

It seems like you and Daisy clashed at first but really grew fond of each other this season. Is that just the editing or did it feel that way to you as well?

I don’t know if both of us were in denial about liking each other. But it was like two little kids, when they like each other, they fight like cats and dogs. I’m still trying to work that one out, to be honest. But it was my highlight coming out of the season, being such good friends with Daisy. It means a lot to me. If it has to happen between Daisy and I — not that I’m saying it will — but if it has to happen, then so be it.

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht star Gary King accused of sexual misconduct by production member

A Bravo spokesperson said the network is "committed to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for cast and crew on our reality shows."

below deck yacht gary

The Below Deck franchise is once again being buffeted by a sexual misconduct scandal.

According to a new Rolling Stone report , a production member on Below Deck: Sailing Yacht has accused cast member Gary King of trying to force himself on her during the making of the Bravo reality show's fourth season, which filmed in Italy last year.

Samantha Suarez, a makeup artist who also assisted a talent manager with day-to-day tasks like bringing food and water to cast members, told the magazine that she first met King, the first mate of superyacht Parsifal III , at the hotel in Sardinia that served as a home base of sorts for the show. One day during the season, Suarez said she accompanied an inebriated King back to his hotel room after he filmed interviews for the show.

While cast members were supposed to remain sequestered due to COVID protocols and a desire to preserve authenticity in their interactions, Suarez said King was trying to break isolation to spend time with his castmates, so she attempted to keep him confined to his room. When she attempted to leave to assist other cast members, Suarez said King asked her to stay and told her she should join him in bed. Suarez said that after she left and later returned to deliver snacks and water, she found King in his underwear, and he once again asked her to remain in his room with him.

"I was like, 'I have to go — I need to go bring other people water and food,' and he's like, 'No, no, please,'" Suarez told Rolling Stone . "So I stepped into the room to set the case of waters down and again, he's repeating, 'Don't leave,' and I was like, 'I have to go, I'm not staying.'"

Suarez said King then grabbed her in an attempt to stop her from leaving, prompting her to "kick and elbow him" in order to escape.

Suarez said she immediately contacted an HR representative, who told her that the company would conduct an investigation into the incident. However, Suarez said the HR rep discouraged her from discussing the encounter because "it was becoming water cooler talk" on set. According to Suarez, King was eventually removed from the hotel and instructed to sleep on the boat for the rest of the season.

Two other crew members, who requested to remain anonymous, attested to Rolling Stone that King was "constantly" making women on set uncomfortable, and that "He's next-level scary with women." The crew members also said they'd heard Suarez's account while the season was filming.

King declined to comment to Rolling Stone . After season 4 finished airing last month, he wrote in an Instagram post , "we all know that #belowdecksailing season 4 wasn't my best, and I know that and will work towards being a better person. With saying that I still had a great time with everyone."

A Bravo spokesperson said Thursday in a statement provided to EW, "Bravo is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for cast and crew on our reality shows. We require our third-party production companies to have appropriate workplace policies and trainings in place and a clear process on how to report concerns. The concerns Ms. Suarez raised in July 2022 were investigated at that time and action was taken based on the findings."

51 Minds Entertainment, the production company behind Below Deck , didn't immediately respond to EW's request for comment. A spokesperson told Rolling Stone , "51 Minds is committed to providing an environment in which every member of the casts and crews on our productions feel respected and, most importantly, safe. 51 Minds provides mandatory harassment and sensitivity training for every series it produces at the outset of each new season and lays out a clear process on how and to whom to report any questionable activity."

The spokesperson added, "With any complaint filed, a timely investigation is launched and, based on the findings, appropriate actions are implemented to ensure the safety of our cast and crew, up to and including termination. With regard to the incident reported by Ms. Suarez involving Mr. King, the case was investigated and reviewed as soon as it was submitted, and production acted accordingly based on the results."

The Rolling Stone report comes on the heels of two cast members on sister show Below Deck Down Under being fired for inappropriate behavior . As chronicled on a recent episode, bosun Luke Jones was terminated after entering the bed of an unconscious castmate while Jones was naked, and second stewardess Laura Bileskalne was axed after making multiple unwanted advances toward a castmate.

Daisy Kelliher, Gary King and Colin MacRae are opening up about the status of their love triangle. During part two of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht reunion on Tuesday, the trio shared what happened after the cameras stopped rolling on season 4.

"We explored something together," Colin said of himself and Daisy. "The first time I saw her again was at the Newport boat show, I flew her over from the U.K. to come see me; that was really good. Then, there was a couple of other things that we did. We spent a week together in Mexico, I flew to New York to see her. We were kinda bouncing around together for a little while."

Things, however, eventually "turned a little toxic," according to Colin.

"You can't reason with this woman," he said, "and I realized that and I ended things with her."

Daisy had a different view of the situation. Though she admitted that she and Colin "triggered each other," she claimed that her ex was "missing the whole point of why it really turned badly."

"When I found out he had broken up with his ex-girlfriend in April, I was like, 'OK, great!' Not great, because they broke up; great, because possibly something could happen between Colin and I. We knew we liked each other, we could feel it," she said. "So, I returned to the boat and I find out that he has been sleeping with someone that he's working with. So, I immediately retreat. I put up all of my walls. This is nothing that gets shown. Nothing that's aired."

As such, Daisy admitted that she became "very defensive," but called out Colin for making her "feel incredibly guilty" about her long-running flirtation with Gary.

"Throughout the year, I asked about this woman, and I asked why it was different with me and Gary and not this woman? And he said, 'The difference is, I am telling you, there is nothing between me and this woman. That there is no future; even if you and I break up, there is no future,'" she claimed. "So, then to find out from my crew members a couple of months after we had broken up, that he was now in a serious relationship with this woman, it was very shocking for me to hear. Very hurtful. And, the toxicity was always there because the trust was never there."

Colin and Daisy went on to reveal that they first got together before the season. While Colin claimed Gary was "stoked" about the then-budding relationship, Colin said that, at the time, he didn't know about Daisy and Gary's history.

As for why they kept their pre-season kisses under wraps, Daisy explained, "I A) wasn't trying to start a relationship. I wasn't like, 'I kissed this guy three times, I'm in a relationship.' B)…I didn’t know about his current girlfriend that he was hooking up with, OK? So, C) when he told me about this girl, it made me take a step back."

"Yes, I was still hooking up with him. Guess what? I'm 36 in 2023. I can kiss multiple people and not feel ashamed for it!" she said. "So, yeah, when Colin and I were kissing, we still hadn't slept together at this stage, and he told me that he had been sleeping with someone else. So, I was like, 'OK, I guess we're, like, kinda figuring stuff out."

It's for that reason that Daisy was annoyed by the blowback to her drunken truth-or-dare kiss with Alex.

"For me to be held accountable for that, when yeah, OK, Colin and I kissed in a hotel room. So what? Now I'm exclusive? No!" she said. "And it made me put my walls up when I found out he had been sleeping with someone."

Colin claimed the situation "was a lot deeper than that," and alleged that Daisy knew about the other girl, which she denied. Colin continued insisting as much, though, causing Daisy to burst into tears and storm off the set.

"We knew this was going to happen," Colin said over Daisy's sobs. "What I've said is the truth. I've just laid it all out there. Now it's my fault that I'm with somebody else, because we turned toxic? It makes no sense."

When Daisy returned to the reunion, she lamented how she felt "f**ked either way" she approached the whole situation.

"I'm always going to be the bitter, angry, crazy woman. I'm never going to win. It's never gonna matter what I say," she said. "... I defend myself, I'm defensive. I sleep with someone, I'm a slut. I speak up, I'm angry or toxic. I stay silent and I’m weak."

Colin noted that while his and Daisy's connection was "genuine," the arguing got to be too much, so, weeks later, he started a new relationship. All the while, Daisy claimed, Colin made her "feel so guilty about Gary.

"I eventually stopped talking to him. I eventually stopped being friends with him. It turned into a roaring match," she said of Gary, before calling Colin for his own flirting with Ilesha.

"The thing that killed me all season, Daisy, is you kept telling me over and over and over, you didn't have feelings for Gary and that it was me that you wanted to be with over and over and over, and then I'm watching it back, I didn't feel that's the case," Colin responded.

Daisy admitted that she feels "nothing but remorse and shame" for how behaved with Gary, but said she "was scared of getting hurt."

While Gary confessed that he had "deep down" feelings for Daisy, she said she "felt like a piece of meat" between him and Colin.

"I felt like I was a prize. It felt like it was an ego competition," she said. "I don't think Gary had genuine feelings for me. I do think we have a genuine connection, in that sense of what we do the show, and you have this bond. We've been through so much, and we do make each other laugh and feel good, but I think that's just on a feel-good level, and I think he confused that and I think I'm allowed to confuse that. I think we're all trying to figure things out."

While she was trying to figure things out, Daisy admitted that she was falling in love with Colin.

"I was more betrayed by the fact that he didn't tell me he was with this girl," she said. "I thought we were friends and I thought we built a good friendship, and knowing that all of these people on this screen knew this for months before I did, it was humiliating."

As for where they go from here, Daisy said she considers Gary a friend and will coexist as coworkers, and he remarked that they'll "never [be] how we were." Gary and Colin, meanwhile, have maintained a "pretty good" friendship. When it comes to Daisy and Colin, he said he was open to repairing things with her.

"I have regrets, but more importantly I know I have a good heart and I know my intentions were good," Daisy said. "Onwards and upwards."

'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' 's Gary Accuses Daisy of 'Spitefully Hooking Up' with Newly Single Colin in Season 4

"Everything is my fault. The guests aren't happy, it's my fault. I can't win. I'm constantly losing," Daisy Kelliher says in PEOPLE's exclusive trailer premiere for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4

below deck yacht gary

Below Deck Sailing Yacht 's Daisy Kelliher and Colin MacRae are making waves in season 4!

PEOPLE can exclusively premiere the trailer for the Bravo show 's latest season as Parsifal III 's Chief Stew and Chief Engineer return to navigate the waters near Sardinia, Italy, alongside Captain Glenn Shephard, First Mate Gary King and fresh batch of yachties.

"I've been with Parsifal for 13 years," Captain Glenn says at the start of the preview. "She had a lot of problems, but she's never let me down."

That is, until the yacht starts heeling — hard .

Sailing Yacht has been known for clanging pots and sliding utensils in its galley over the years, but season 4's tilt-fest takes things to a new level, with falling crew members, portholes that look like they're in a whirlpool swirl and one guest exclaiming, "Who needs a roller coaster? Holy cow!"

Still, Captain Glenn remains optimistic: "It looks like we got a good group of people here. I'm looking forward to a really good season."

Beyond the technical troubles (including a dud engine echoing season 2's bow thruster debacle ), it would seem the choppier waters will come in the form of the crew's personal entanglements and partying ways.

Like every year, Gary returns with a renewed promise to stay out of the drama and drunken carousing. "My intention is not to come in and hook up with a chick," he says. "I'm here to make money and have a good time and give guests good experiences."

But as sure as the tides ebb and flow, Gary — whose last season saw him hooking up with every available woman on the crew, including one surprisingly steamy hot tub makeout session with Daisy — is soon enough taking shots and preserving his reputation as Parsifal 's resident kissing bandit.

The carousing spirit is shared by many on on board, with new deckhand Alex Propson proclaiming this will be his "hot boy European summer," and steward Madison "Mads" Herrera saying, "I wouldn't be opposed to screwing the crew provided they know how to screw."

Most unexpectedly, though, Gary's longtime wingman Colin is finally stretching his own wings this season in his first filmed charter season without a girlfriend back on land.

"Who do you have your eye on, Colin? You're a single man," Gary asks innocently before the trailer cuts a sizzling shot of the Daisy and Colin kissing on one of the boat's staircases, then later in a crew bunk (hot tubs are so 2022).

As Colin and Daisy grow closer than ever, Gary becomes jealous and seems to miss the chase of being in a will-they-won't-they relationship with Daisy.

Though he assures Colin he likes Daisy "as a friend," he doesn't miss the opportunity to pour cold water on her connection with Colin.

"You know you like me deep down," he says, "and I feel you're hooking up to get back at me — spitefully hooking up."

As the drama and pressure escalate, Daisy says through tears: "Everything is my fault. The guests aren't happy, it's my fault. I can't win. I'm constantly losing."

She'd said earlier in the trailer that she needed to "to work on my stress levels," but it doesn't seem like that's on the horizon for this Sailing Yacht .

Gary and Daisy's Relationship Has Endured Rough Waters on 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht'

Haylee Thorson - Author

UPDATED Jun. 6 2023, 12:12 p.m. ET

The relationship between Gary King and Daisy Kelliher from Below Deck Sailing Yacht hasn't been easy for either of them. Or, for Colin MacRae, Daisy's Season 4 love interest.

After Daisy and Gary entered the Below Deck universe in 2021, fans of the Bravo series have continuously speculated that the reality stars are more than friends. And they aren’t the only ones who see their dynamic that way.

Gary has spoken out about his and Daisy's connection and their past is a big part of their storyline in Season 4. Especially since Daisy is ready to move on. Let’s dive into Gary and Daisy’s relationship timeline and how they ended up where they are today.

Gary and Daisy’s relationship timeline started out rocky during Season 2 of ‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht.’

The chief stew and first officer first graced fans' screens in 2021 when the second season of the Below Deck spin-off series debuted on Bravo. However, the duo did not hit it off right away.

Despite holding separate job responsibilities, Gary and Daisy’s personalities frequently clashed during their time in Season 2. So much so, the Irish reality star revealed during her first Below Deck Sailing Yacht reunion that she didn’t know if she would want to be co-workers with Gary again.

“You clearly hated me and thought I was a giant b--ch,” the chief stew told the New Zealand native. However, Gary denied the allegation and explained that he only said that she was “ acting b--chy.”

Gary and Daisy’s relationship turned passionate during Season 3 of ‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht.’

While it’s no secret Gary and Daisy’s relationship started rocky during Season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , their dynamic shifted significantly during Season 3.

When the Bravo stars reunited for their second stint on the reality series, they engaged in a steamy makeout session in the hot tub during a night out.

The kiss was so passionate that Gary and Daisy almost slept together that night. But despite the palpable sexual tension between the two, the co-stars continued insisting that there was nothing romantic happening between them.

In fact, Daisy revealed on her Instagram story in January 2022 that she didn’t remember the kiss at all. “No one’s mind was more blown than mine the next day,” Daisy admitted, per Us Weekly . “I have no recollection of that kiss.”

Gary revealed that he and Daisy hooked up in the ‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ Season 4 mid-season trailer.

After being caught in a love triangle with Gary and Colin MacRae during Season 4 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , the first officer revealed shocking information during the mid-season trailer that altered his relationship with Daisy.

When Gary got jealous about the chief stew’s hook-up with the chief engineer, Daisy immediately put him in his place. “You f---ing could have had me a million times over, and you didn’t want me,” she said in the trailer. “Now you can’t have me, and now you f---ing want me?”

Then, Gary dropped the ultimate bombshell. “Having sex with you was f---ing amazing,” he told her.

When Daisy realized that cameras picked up on the first officer’s comment, she tried silencing Gary so he wouldn’t spill any more secrets about their relationship.

And when Colin learned that his new flame hooked up with the Below Deck Sailing Yacht star, he couldn’t help but comment. “The chemistry they have and the way they look at each other — I thought it was all friends,” the chief engineer admitted. “It all makes sense now.”

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on Bravo.

‘Below Deck’ Sails Into a New Era

With a different captain at the helm and new production elements, the reality show about charter yachts is switching up its style.

A man in a crew member suit stands behind a bar and tends to flowers in a vase.

By Shivani Gonzalez

Starting a new season of “ Below Deck ” can be similar to returning to summer camp as a kid — you know it’s going to be fun and that you’ll be in the same environment, but some of the people will be different and you’re not quite sure what the vibes will be.

This time around, in particular, feels that way because for the first time in the show’s 11-season run, Captain Lee Rosbach is no longer at the helm. It’s a pivotal moment for a franchise that has become one of the most popular entities in the sprawling universe of reality TV since premiering on Bravo in 2013 . The show’s appeal was built on endless romances between various crew members (“boatmances,” as they came to be known), horrible charter guests and some sort of passive-aggressive fight about how many shackles of the anchor chain should be in the water. And there was always Rosbach presiding over the drama as he trudged around the boat, reeling off one liners like “I’m madder than a pissed-on chicken” and “we screwed the pooch so many times we should have a litter of puppies running around.”

At the center of the show now is Kerry Titheradge (the stern yet goofy captain of “Below Deck Adventure” fame), who is managing the Motor Yacht Saint David with the cheeky chief stew Fraser Olender by his side.

With that change in captain, the energy on the boat — both onscreen and off — is different, according to Olender.

“Lee has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” Olender said in an interview. “With Kerry, he taught me a lot and sort of forced to me confront issues directly with my team, work them out, as opposed to making executive decisions too soon.”

This shift in management style changes the central conflict — whereas the drama once focused on the captain swiftly kicking out any unpleasant crew member (as we might have seen with Rosbach), the drama now focuses on the whole crew trying to get along (since Titheradge gives people those second chances).

Additionally, Olender noted that the captain’s relationship with the crew can also affect the drama on board.

“Captains absolutely do get involved, whether they know it or not,” Olender said, adding that for the crew, everything is about “trying to impress your captain.”

This phenomenon plays out early in the new season when the lead deckhand, Ben Willoughby, called out a fellow crew member over the radios about not wearing a life vest — something he easily could have done in private. The drama that followed became an interpersonal conflict between the two of them, both with the ultimate goal of impressing Titheradge. (Of course, the two deckhands had kissed on the previous crew night out, which is more in line with the “Below Deck” drama viewers are used to.)

For “Below Deck” showrunners, the changeovers in the cast allowed them to rethink what the show would look like.

From the season premiere, it was immediately apparent that Rosbach’s absence wasn’t the only change this season: The filming is sleeker, the daily, multicourse meals prepared by the chef are given their own glamour shots and the cameras sometimes cut to the perspectives of yachties running around on deck and through the galley.

“Our showrunner, Lauren Simms, is an avid consumer of all different kinds of media,” Noah Samton, a senior vice president of unscripted current production for NBCUniversal, said in an interview. “She pitches us different ideas on how to stylistically evoke different feelings and change the mood a little bit of ‘Below Deck’ without removing what really works.”

Moving through the rest of the season, and potentially through seasons to come, Olender is aiming to bring a cutthroat management style while also bringing affection for his stews, all with his signature British humor.

On Bravo’s side, there are changes in the works for the other “Below Deck” spinoffs — including “Sailing Yacht,” “Mediterranean” and “Down Under” — which collectively, have 26 seasons. Specifically, Samton said that “Down Under” is currently filming and that even though fans should be ready to see new things, the show will stay true to its original concept.

“These are real yachties doing a real job so you have to stay within those confines because the audience isn’t going to want anything that is too produced or fake,” Samton said. “So we have to find ways to reinvent while staying true to the original concept of the show.”

And as Olender said: “I’m sure that every year if I were to work with this franchise again, that I’ll be thrown a collection of total chaotic and disastrous stews — that’s what makes it watchable.”

An earlier version of this article misquoted Fraser Olender, the chief stew of “Below Deck.” He said, “I also feel like Kerry this season. ... Lee has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” not “I feel like Kerry this season, as opposed to Lee, has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him.”

Below Deck Loses 2 Crewmembers After a Firing and a Dramatic Season 11 Departure

Below deck 's capt. kerry titheradge fired the first season 11 yachtie during the bravo series' march 18 episode, but that wasn't the only shocking departure. find out who else left the yacht..

The St. David is down not one, but two crewmembers.

During Below Deck 's March 18 episode, Captain Kerry Titheradge fired the first season 11 yachtie when he let Bosun Jared Woodin go for unprofessional behavior, the last straw being an inebriated Jared barging into Stew Barbie Pascual 's cabin the night prior and yelling at Deckhand Kyle Stillie for leaving a mess of loose tobacco on the deck after a night of partying.

"This is the second time you've gone on the piss and you've had bad behavior," Kerry told his subordinate. "You're in a leadership role. You can't be acting like that. You gotta be above the fray. The way that you're treating these guy is not acceptable."

But it wasn't just the alcohol that was the problem, as Kerry noted Jared's mental state wasn't where it needed to be. "You've got s--t going on, man," he shared. "You're your own worst enemy right now. You need to depart the vessel."

However, Jared agreed his head wasn't in the right place and accepted his termination graciously.

"This ain't the right place for me at the right time," Jared replied, to which Kerry responded, "I don't blame you for that. Take this time and work on yourself. Me keeping you here is a disservice to you."

Before departing the super-yacht, Jared reflected in a confessional, "I thought I was in a good headspace coming into this. I'm really not. And as much as I'd like to be I'm just lying to myself."

But Jared wasn't the only teammate to set sail during the latest episode. Stew Cat Baugh willingly left the ship after admittedly struggling with the job all season long.

"I really wanna push through for you guys," Cat, in tears, told Chief Stew Fraser Olender after receiving a very distressing call from a friend back home in America. "I'm just losing my mind right now."

And Fraser totally understood his crewmember's needs.

"If you're in a very unhappy place," he told her, "I'd rather you put your health and your mental health before that and we get you the help you need as soon as we can."

In a confessional, Fraser elaborated, "I don't know what is going on, but you can look into someone's eyes sometimes and see that there is no more that they can give. They are going through enough to be incapable and I need to do what's right for her. "

See how the crew copes with the unexpected departures when Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on Bravo. And keep reading to look back at the most shocking Below Deck firings ever.

If there's one thing to learn from Camille Lamb 's Below Deck firing, it's to not slack off on the job. That's exactly why the season 10 stew was let go by substitute Captain Sandy Yawn , as Chief Stew Fraser Olender continued to criticize Camille's behavior on board.

From being caught drinking while preparing for a new charter to partying at late hours and more, Fraser informed Captain Sandy that he had reached his "last straw."

"She's the common denominator in all of this," said Captain Sandy. "Great girl, great personality, but at the same time, we have to do what's best for the boat."

Below Deck Adventure 's Kyle Dickard was let go just three episodes into the reality franchise's latest series—which premiered in November 2022. After picking fights with his fellow deckhand Nathan Morley —as well as kissing crew mates in front of guests—Kyle was offered by Captain Kerry Titheradge the opportunity to resign so that his firing would not end up on his personal record.

Kyle took the Captain up on his offer and left the boat after just one charter.

Captain Sandy let bosun Raygan Tyler go during season seven of Below Deck Mediterranean , not only for causing the boat to take a small hit while docking, but also for not stepping up to the plate as a leader.

But Captain Sandy didn't want her firing to discourage the bosun, as she told Raygan, "If I had the time and I wasn't running a boat this size, I would train you. I would teach you."

In addition to onboard romances and failing to follow directions , one of the biggest reasons behind stew Elizabeth Frankini 's Below Deck firing was her infamous laundry room accident , during which made a toxic mess when combining bleach and laundry soap.

"Unfortunately, I didn't know that was so toxic and I feel so bad about it," she told E! News of the incident in December 2020 . "You know, I do feel really bad, especially 'cause Francesca [ Rubi ] did say, 'Take it outside.'"

The bosun and stew were both fired by Captain Jason Chambers for inappropriate behavior after a night of partying with their fellow yachties.

Luke Jones was let go after getting into Stew Margot Sisson 's bed naked while she was drunk and unconscious. Laura Bileskaine also made unwanted advances on Deckhand Adam Kodra despite him telling her he was not interested in hooking up.

Jason made it known that consent was a must, and sent both crewmembers packing.

Tensions between stew Lexi Wilson and Chef Mathew Shea came to a head during an explosive dinner fight on season six of Below Deck Mediterranean , during which Lexi told Matt that his parents "should've aborted you." That was the last straw for Captain Sandy, who fired her not long after the incident.

Deckhand Tom Pearson said "bon voyage" to Below Deck Sailing Yacht after getting let go by Captain Glenn Shephard . Tom hit his last strike with the Captain after failing to report that the boat's anchor was dragging during heavy winds one night, causing a potential safety risk for everyone on board.

"It had to be done. It was such a grievous thing that he dropped the ball there, he had to go, and we had to just be man down and live with it, you know?" Captain Glenn said of the decision on Watch What Happens Live. "So, obviously, you don't want to do that, but yeah, it had to happen."

Some people are picky eaters, but Below Deck Down Under' s Ryan McKeown was quite the picky chef, as he would judge guests' food requests and fail to take criticism from Captain Jason Chambers , as well.

Perhaps Ryan's Below Deck exit is one of the franchise's most memorable, as he mooned Jason and viewers on his way off the boat.

Below Deck Down Under stew Magda Ziomek 's firing was another case of slacking on the job. After constantly being on her phone texting or video chatting with her boyfriend, Chief Stew Aesha Scott decided to replace Magda before the end of the charter season.

Below Deck Mediterranean 's Peter Hunziker was fired from the series in June 2020 after he shared an offensive post on social media.

"Peter Hunziker of Below Deck Mediterranean has been terminated for his racist post," Bravo wrote in a statement at the time. "Bravo and 51 Minds are editing the show to minimize his appearance for subsequent episodes."

Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier was let go by Captain Sandy on Below Deck Mediterranean after boson Malia White discovered her co-star possessed undeclared Valium and a vape pen, the former of which Hannah claimed was for her anxiety.

"If I could do it all over again, I would've just declared them as soon as I came on board," Hannah stated in an August 2020 interview with E! News. "It was definitely not something that was intentional. I wasn't trying to hide anything.

Below Deck Mediterranean 's Delaney Evans left just as quickly as she arrived. After initially being brought on during season six to help out Chief Stew Katie Flood , Katie determined that Delaney was doing more harm than good, choosing to let her go after just one charter.

"I think she was overwhelmed with the situation, and I think that, you know, in her mind, the best solution to the situation was just to go back to what they had before," Delaney told Bravo Insider of Katie's decision. "I think she was just overwhelmed with everything that was going on and all the feedback she was getting."

Deckhand Shane Coopersmith was a bit in over his head on season eight of Below Deck , as he was let go for failing to know basic skills, reporting late for duty and taking naps on the job.

Chaos in the kitchen led to Captain Lee Rosbach letting Chef Leon Walker go on season three of Below Deck . After an oven fire broke out , Lee placed the blame on Chief Stew Kate Chastain but was ultimately the one sent home.

Like several of the franchise's stars, Below Deck 's Chris Brown was fired during season five for failing to fully perform his duties. After being let go by Captain Lee, Chris shared some parting words as he left the boat, stating , "Who gives a s--t?"

Chef Mila Kolomeitseva was fired by Captain Sandy on season four of Below Deck Mediterranean after failing to use her cooking skills to produce top-quality food for guests—including some not-so-nice nachos .

"Of course it makes me feel awful," Mila said of her departure . "People like me who have big egos sometimes have to be put down to earth a little bit. But it makes me feel like I want to work even harder."

Sometimes people just don't work well together. That's exactly why Captain Lee fired Chandler Brooks during season six of Below Deck , telling the boson, "I don't think it's a good fit."

Below Deck season 11 has already been a tumultuous season with Captain Kerry sending multiple crew members home . Malia White

Below deck mediterranean.

Malia White started as a deckhand in Below Deck Med season 2, where she was caught in a love triangle with Chef Adam Glick and Bosun Wesley Walton, whom she went on to date for several years after. In Below Deck Med seasons 5 and 6, she came back as a bosun. During season 5, she ratted out Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier for having unregistered Valium and a vape pen on board. Since then, Below Deck viewers haven't been as welcoming toward Malia.

Ashton Pienaar

Ashton Pienaar joined the cast of Below Deck seasons 6 and 7, as a deckhand, then a bosun. In season 6, he won sympathy after a scary experience when his foot got caught in a tow line, and he was dragged into the water. However, the following season, he began drinking heavily on nights out and belligerently lashed out at Chief Stew Kate Chastain. One night, he angrily punched the inside of the van door while on their way back to their mega-yacht, Valor. Ashton never returned to Below Deck again.

Lexi Wilson

After getting back from their crew night out, Lexi Wilson from Below Deck Med season 6 got wasted drunk and fought with her crew mates. After Malia picked Wes, Adam lost his cool and even physically assaulted Wes on a day off.

João Franco

João Franco first appeared as the lead deckhand during Below Deck Med season 3. Captain Sandy took note of his dedicated work ethic and welcomed João back for season 4 as her bosun. However, this season proved to be less successful, as João found himself in the middle of a love triangle and at odds with Chief Stew, Hannah, resulting in season 4 being his last . However, he did return for Below Deck Down Under season 2 and still ended the season on a bad note with fans.

Leon Walker

Leon Walker appeared on Below Deck season 3 and quickly made enemies with former Chief Stew Kate . When Leon wasn't blatantly telling Kate that he didn't like her, he was refusing to cater to the guest's culinary requests on board. Despite his terrible attitude, Leon wasn't fired until a dirty oven caused a fire to break out in the galley.

Kyle Viljoen

Kyle Viljoen made quite an impression on Below Deck Med season 7 before an unexpected injury ended his charter season. Kyle had a brief romance with a charter guest , which was breaking the Captain's rules, but he did it anyway. Though Kyle was a fan favorite, when he twisted his ankle onboard, his damaged ligaments meant that he was unable to perform basic tasks, so Captain Sandy had to relieve him from duty.

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4's Gary King has been a controversial part of the series. Gary is a lifetime yachtie who is known for his cavalier attitude and playboy ways . Gary has caused quite a stir as he's moved through Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, especially in his relationships with Daisy Kelliher and Colin MacRae.

Kyle Dickard

Below deck adventure.

In addition to continuing to pursue Kasie, he disrespected cast members on nights out.

Peter Hunziker

Peter Hunziker was a deckhand on Below Deck Med season 5 but was immediately cut from the show after a racist post resurfaced online . Before Peter was let go by Bravo , he made a few inappropriate comments towards the women onboard. He constantly referred to Malia as " sweetheart ," which she didn't like. He was also creepy towards Chief Steward Bugsy Drake by hitting on her. From the start, Peter was problematic, and the racist post was just the nail in the coffin.

Below Deck season 11 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo. Episodes are available for streaming on Tuesdays on Peacock.

Daisy Kelliher dishes Below Deck Sailing Yacht success, reveals if she still stalks to Gary King after scandal

Daisy Kelliher on BDS Season 4

Below Deck Sailing Yacht star Daisy Kelliher has dished about her success on the hit show ahead of Season 5.

Daisy has appeared on three seasons of Below Deck Sailing Yacht and helped turn the show around after a lackluster first season.

Despite a serious rift in the dream team trio of Colin, Daisy, and Gary following Season 4, fans still can’t get enough of them.

Ahead of her fourth stint on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Daisy has opened up about life following her success and how she ended up on the show.

Daisy lost her job during the COVID-19 pandemic and at the urging of friends, she applied to be on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

Speaking with The Irish Independent, Daisy admitted that a couple of weeks after applying, she was filming Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 in Croatia.

Daisy Kelliher dishes Below Deck Sailing Yacht success

Although it may seem like Daisy’s life has changed drastically since she became a staple on the sailing franchise, she insists that’s not the case.

“My life hasn’t changed dramatically, but there have been small, subtle changes – it’s been fun,” she expressed to the outlet.

As Monsters and Critics previously reported, one big change for Daisy is her new friendship with Hollywood A-list star Christina Applegate.

Daisy also looked back on her life since her Below Deck Sailing Yacht debut, admitting she didn’t think she would get the gig, but is beyond happy she did.

“The last three years have been kind of a whirlwind, I really can’t complain. I’m getting to do all my yachting work and slowly getting to do other things as well,” Daisy stated.

With her fourth season hitting Bravo airwaves this year, one can’t help but wonder how much longer Daisy will still be on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

“I’m just being a ‘yes person’ at the moment. The last few years have changed very quickly, so my attitude right now is just saying yes and seeing where things take me,” Daisy spilled. “I’ve done everything from podcasts to the show, to still doing both, so every day is very different. I don’t know what the future holds right now.”

Along with opening up about her success on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Daisy also shared if she still speaks to Gary following sexual misconduct allegations against him.

Daisy Kelliher reveals if she still talks to Gary King

Last summer, Gary was accused of sexual misconduct by a production team member. However, even before that, Daisy and Gary were at odds over things that went down during Season 4, especially her hooking up with Colin.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans have wondered where Daisy and Gary stand today following the scandal and their fallout. After all, Gary was removed from BravoCon after the allegations against him came to light, so no resolution to his and Daisy’s friendship was revealed there.

During an Instagram Stories Q&A session, Daisy asked who she talks to from the show. Dani Soares and Gary were two names Daisy brought up immediately.

Daisy Kelliher IG Story

Although she did mention she keeps in touch with others like Alli Dore, Daisy also declared that they all simply live different lives. Daisy confirmed that no other cast members from Below Deck Sailing Yacht live in London, where she resides.

Daisy frequently hangs with Below Deck stars Fraser Olender and Hayley De Sola Pinto. She also spends time with Below Deck Med alum Courtney Veale since they live in London.

The wait to see Daisy Kelliher back on Below Deck Sailing Yacht won’t be much longer. Captain Glenn hinted at when the Parsifal III crew will be back, and you can read what he had to say here.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is currently on hiatus on Bravo. Seasons 1-4 are streaming on Peacock.

Below deck: barbie’s backstory about selling finance causes massive confusion.

Barbie Pascual's explanation of her previous finance job on the show has left many Below Deck viewers confused, just like charter guests on the yacht.

 • Barbie's odd claim about selling finance on Wall Street baffles Below Deck viewers, sparking hilarious responses on Reddit.
 • Barbie's language barrier may have caused confusion about her past job.
 • Barbie is currently involved in a love triangle with Kyle and Ben, as well as having conflicts with other crew members.

Barbie Pascual confuses Below Deck viewers with wild statements about her past work life. The 29-year-old Argentinian is one of the most notorious crew members on Captain Kerry Titheradge’s yacht . She has become famous for her feud with her boss, Fraser Olender, and her demeaning behavior toward the inexperienced Stew, Cat Baugh . Recently, Barbie made a strange remark about her previous job on the show. She talked to the charter guests and boldly claimed she sold finance on Wall Street in the Trump building. Even the drunk guests were baffled after hearing her, as proven by their blank faces.

Recently, a Redditor, realitytvdiet , shared a screenshot of Barbie’s bizarre statement , asking others what she meant. Many Below Deck viewers quickly replied with quirky responses, making fun of Barbie and laughing at her confusing job. “you sold... finance,” a Redditor sarcastically asked, stating how weird it sounded.

Another Reddit user wrote, “was she selling something in a booth in teimp tower?” and wondered what she meant. Someone even said, “I had to rewind and listen again,” stating that they worked in finance but never heard anyone say they sold finance for a living.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

Barbie’s below deck storyline explained, barbie doesn't get along with some of her co-stars.

Barbie’s appearance on Below Deck is just as confusing as her comment about her past job. She’s good at her job and qualified to work on a yacht. But she has trouble working with her crew members and leaving a good impression. Barbie isn’t on the same page as Fraser and hates his guts for mistreating her. At the same time, she does the same to Cat by behaving poorly towards her instead of going a bit easy on her. Barbie is also in a confusing love triangle. She’s leading Kyle Stillie on but playing with Ben Willoughby’s emotions.

It's understandable that viewers are confused by Barbie's previous job, as no one typically sells finance . This leaves viewers unsure of what the Below Deck stewardess meant when she claimed to have sold finances on Wall Street in the Trump building. It's not just an odd statement, it's downright outrageous. Finance refers to the management of money, which includes tasks like borrowing, investing, lending, saving, budgeting, and forecasting. It's not a physical object that can be sold. It's possible that Barbie misspoke while describing her past job and didn't correct herself to avoid embarrassment in front of the charter guests.

Still, viewers should probably go a bit easy on Barbie. The young Stew is based out of Argentina. Therefore, she must have grown up speaking her native language, Spanish . It’s possible that the Below Deck star just didn’t know how to articulate her last job. Many viewers are probably right to speculate that Barbie was perhaps talking about doing business and working in the finance industry. She’s very smart and knows multiple languages. Therefore, it’s hard to believe that she made a mistake. It was probably a vocabulary issue that stopped the Below Deck star from describing her job.

Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo, then streams the following day on Peacock.
