17 fun & creative things to do in Raglan
Visit Raglan for chilled out, bohemian vibe in a beautiful setting. Here are the best activities in this little surf town.
Raglan is one of the coolest small towns in New Zealand.
Famous for its world class surf breaks, Raglan has the laid-back air of surf towns everywhere.
Even if you’re not in Raglan for the surf, it’s well worth visiting. In this creative adventure hub, there’s something for everyone, from lazing on the beach to hiking to hill tops and enjoying epic local food .
The town is a little hippie enclave and as well as vans with surfboards strapped to the top there’s plenty of yoga, art, and live music that give Raglan a lively atmosphere.
Only two hours from Auckland , Raglan is one of my favourite weekend destinations.
This is a great place to go barefoot and enjoy the simple things — great coffee, stellar sunsets, and long beach walks. Here are the best things to do in Raglan.
My favourite things to do in Raglan
Or take a surf lesson
Check out the beaches
Get a coffee at Raglan Roast

Eat fish and chips at Raglan Wharf
Shop local handicrafts at the Raglan Wharf
Hike Mount Karioi
Go canyoning down Mount Karioi

Catch live music at the Yot Club
Take a yoga class
Head to Bridal Veil Falls for a refreshing short walk
Stay in a rustic cabin
1. Go surfing, even if you’re a beginner
One of the main draws to Raglan is the surf. This stretch of wild west coast is what’s known as a swell magnet.
The left hand point break at Many Bay is legendary world wide — I’ve met surfers on the other side of the world who’ve asked me about Raglan with reverence in their eyes. Manu Bay a heaven for goofy footed surfers.
Barrels roll in around the rocks and can carry surfers as far as 300 metres.
There are multiple breaks around Raglan, including the beach break at Ngarunui Beach. If you’re not pro enough to surf Many Bay, Ngarunui often has waves to suit different levels.
This is where I head to as a beginner-ish surfer. On small days you can get really nice, mellow waves and with the sandy bottom it’s not as intimidating as the rocky Manu Bay.
Even on bigger days, the white wash is really fun. Just be prepared for strong currents and look out for the rips.
Ngarunui Beach is where the surf schools operate. If you don’t have your own board, you can rent a surfboard and wetsuit from one of the caravans in the carpark.
The last time I was there (January 2024) a friend hired a surfboard and wetsuit from Green Wave Raglan for $35 for 3 hours — not a bad deal for half a day of fun.
2. Can’t surf yet? Take a surf lesson
If you don’t know how to surf yet, a surf lesson at Ngarunui Beach is the way to go.
This is where I took my first ever surf lesson, with Green Wave Surf School . Just be warned — you’ll get hooked.
Even though the waves at this beach can look big and intimidating, the long stretch of whitewash is actually perfect for learning to surf. You’ll have time to get to your feet for the first time on foam board.
Ngarunui Beach, with the long west coast stretching into the misty distance and large sandy cliffs rising above beach, is an incredibly scenic place to learn to surf.
As well as catching waves for the first time, you’ll get sucked into the laid back surf lifestyle in Raglan and want to start living like this all the time. That’s what happened to me.
There are multiple surf schools to choose from. If you’re serious about progressing quickly, I’ve heard really good things about Up Surf Coaching.
3. Explore Raglan’s beaches
Raglan is located on New Zealand’s west coast , which means big surf swells and black sand.
There are a number of different beaches around Raglan — it’s worth exploring all of them.
Ngarunui Beach (or Ocean Beach) is Raglan's most famous beach, known for its excellent surf breaks. It’s a huge stretch of black sand and from here you can see the sea-misted west coast stretching far into the distance.
From the main carpark, you can walk up to a little lookout point for a nice view.
You can swim at Ngaranui, but it’s often more of a chaotic jump through the waves. If you’re not surfing, you’re likely to spend more time on your beach towel than in the water here.
The sunset view from above Ngarunui Beach
Walking Ngarunui Beach at sunset
In the evening, the Michael Hope lookout area on the hills just above Ngarunui Beach comes alive with people stopping by for the daily sunset show.
It gets really lively and it’s a fun atmosphere. Plus, the views from up here are stunning. It is the best sunset spot in Raglan, and if the weather plays ball you’ll be in for a treat.
Located adjacent to Ngarunui Beach, Manu Bay is famous for being one of the world's longest left-hand surf breaks. The bay is also a lovely place to watch the surfers catch the waves from the lookout point. It’s less ideal for swimming, as it’s a rocky beach.
Whale Bay is a secluded bay about a 15-minute drive from Raglan's town centre. This is another popular surf spot, but it’s also fun to rock hop on the beach.
Te Kopua Beach is right at the Raglan Harbour entrance. On the edge of a sheltered lagoon, the waters here are much calmer for swimming.
Nearby this beach is a footbridge that connects this little peninsula with the centre of Raglan town. You’ll quite often see local kids jumping off the bridge — doing ‘bombs’ — join them if you’re brave!
4. Get a coffee at Raglan Roast
Raglan Roast coffee was started by a couple of barefoot surfers, and their ethos is still clearly visible. They’re all about good vibes and slow living, taking the time to enjoy the little things — like a cup of excellent coffee.
Their coffee is hand roasted daily and it’s the brew you need to power you through a surf session or a hike up Mount Karioi.
Stop by their hole-in-the-wall coffee shop on Volcom Lane in the centre of Raglan for your morning caffeine fix, or stock up on some of their beans to brew your own at home.
This simple little coffee joint is where it all started, from out the side of the old surfshop. You can still see the original roaster in action here, from when the guys first started ‘slinging brews.’
5. Shop local Raglan arts and goods
Raglan town is a great place to shop. One of my top things to do here is browse the different creative stores.
ULO, on the corner of Bow Street, is a must-visit store. The small corner shop features a colourful collection of vintage clothing, eclectic art, and records. With the many bohemian and unique goods, ULO is a true representation of Raglan’s creative spirit.
Every time I visit Raglan I pop into ULO and pick up a sticker for my van — I now have quite a collection.
Another great shop is Merkaba, which stocks goods made from organic hemp. The Herbal Dispensary is also worth a look, as they proudly sell a whole range of goodies made in Raglan, like Hunt and Gather honey and Raglan Coconut Yoghurt.
Wandering around the shops in Raglan is a great way to find some New Zealand souvenirs .
6. Eat fish and chips at Raglan Wharf
One very cool thing to do in Raglan is to follow the waterfront around to the Raglan Wharf.
Here you’ll find Raglan Fish, a fish and chip shop supplied by the fishing boats that dock at the wharf. Fish is carried almost straight from boat to fryer, resulting in incredibly fresh fish and chips.
Choose from beer-battered fries or kumara chips, if you want to taste a local speciality.
On sunny days, you can sit on the wharf and admire the gorgeous harbour while you picnic.
7. Shop local handicrafts at the Raglan Wharf
Image courtesy of Tony Sly Pottery
Raglan Wharf also has some other cool spots to check out. I love popping into the Tony Sly Pottery store. Tony Sly is a local Raglan potter and in the store you can browse the many beautiful pottery pieces and homewares.
Tony shapes practical pottery for cooks using colours from Raglan’s landscapes — earthy greens, gentle blues and whites inspired by the harbour alongside the studio.
Then there’s Soul Shoes, a leather goods store that has been operating since 1973.
All of the leather goods are handmade by local craftspeople, showcasing the best quality and design that Raglan has to offer.
Browse handmade bags, shoes, belts, wallets and other accessories that are designed to last.
There’s also a cool spot to stay at the Raglan Wharf — The Silos are apartments in converted concrete silos. They have unique rounded shapes and stunning views across the water.
8. Hike Mount Karioi
If the beach and waves aren’t your thing, go hiking instead.
Climbing up Mount Karioi is heaps of fun. It takes about three hours to get to the summit.
It’s a tough climb in places and can get very muddy thanks to the rain clouds that like to hang around the mountain. But that just adds to the experience.
You’ll climb up ladders, scale rocky outcrops with chains, and have to jump from rock to rock in places. It’s like a natural obstacle course, so if you’re in touch with your inner child, you’ll love this hike.
From the summit you get awesome views on a clear day. Allegedly you can see as far south as Mount Taranaki, but you’d need exceptional weather for that.
Round trip, the hike takes 5-6 hours, so make sure you pack lunch and enough water.
9. Go canyoning down Mount Karioi
Adults $139
What to do in Raglan for the thrill seekers?
For an even bigger adventure than hiking, one of the most unique things to do in Raglan is to go canyoning down Mount Karioi with Raglan Rock .
This local adventure travel company runs trips down the mountain’s canyons, following a stream down ancient lava flows. The bush covered canyon and dramatic waterfall will have your pulse racing.
10. Visit the Te Toto Gorge
The Te Toto Gorge is a deep, wide chasm in the coastline. It’s located 30 minutes outside of Raglan, along an unsealed coastal road.
Once you reach the carpark, it’s only a few hundred metres to the lookout.
There’s a viewing platform tacked to the edge of the gorge, from where you can look straight down into the gorge. It’s surprisingly far down the sheer sides of the gorge, which has native bush growing in the bottom.
Beyond the lookout, you can follow unofficial paths past the lookout platform through the grass on the hill here, but do so at your own risk.
The carpark for Te Toto Gorge is the same as the one for the Mount Karioi hike, so you can easily do both things in one go.
11. Catch live music at the Yot Club
The Yot Club is a bit of an institution in Raglan. The first time I heard people talk about it, I pictured a swanky place on the waterfront where people dress up and sip cocktails — a yacht club.
Raglan’s Yot Club is nothing like that.
It’s the kind of place that has sticky floors and funky bathrooms with questionable cleanliness. Basically, it’s a fun time.
Bands regularly play here in the summer months, so if you’re in Raglan on the weekend go check out a gig.
In summer there’s also weekly Sunday sessions , where DJs set up in the outdoor area and play vinyl.
Ngarunui Beach is the main surf beach at Raglan. During the day, it’s packed with surfers, dog walkers, and sun bathers.
In the evening, the lookout areas on the hills just above the beach come alive with people stopping by for the daily sunset show.
13. Stop by the Raglan Creative Market
The Raglan Creative Market takes place on the second Sunday of every month.
It’s a great market which showcases Raglan’s people and lifestyle. There’s lots of bohemian clothing, organic produce, and art.
Browsing the stalls makes for a relaxed Sunday morning.
14. Take a yoga class
Surfing and yoga go together hand in hand. There are a couple of different yoga studios around Raglan. The Space is the most well known, with a loft space right in the centre of town.
It’s a cosy studio with wooden floors and a good timetable, but it is popular, so show up early for class.
15. Head to Bridal Veil Falls for a refreshing short walk
Bridal Veil Falls is an impressive waterfall just outside of Raglan. It’s about a 20 minute drive to get from Raglan to the Bridal Veil Falls carpark.
The falls cascade down a sheer rock face, creating a mesmerising "bridal veil" effect as the water plummets 55 meters (approximately 180 feet) into the pool below.
The walk to reach the waterfall viewpoints isn’t strenuous. It’s 1.4 kilometres out and back, so it only takes around 30 minutes.
There are two viewing platforms at the top of the falls, and another at the bottom. The viewing points at the top are suitable for wheelchairs and prams.
There are quite a few steps down to the base of the waterfall, though, so this part of the track isn’t wheelchair accessible, and the way back up can be more challenging.
16. Stay in a rustic cabin
Part of Raglan’s magic is its environment. The West Coast of New Zealand has a special, wild feeling about it, with the open coastline and native bush.
Stay in a unique place in Raglan to experience this for yourself. Going off grid somewhere is part of the experience of being in Raglan.
You can find a few cool Airbnbs in Raglan, but this one is definitely one of the best .
Picture lots of wood, surrounded by greenery, with a blanket of serenity over it all.
There’s also this really beautiful cottage you can book through Canopy Camping.
17. Go to Orca Eatery and Bar for happy hour drinks
Orca is located close to Raglan’s harbourfront. From their outside seating area, you can admire the water and the gnarled pohutakawa trees that grow alongside it.
It’s a great spot to sit and watch the treacle-slow pace of Raglan life trickle past. Go between 3-6pm everyday, and you get to enjoy happy hour cocktails to go with the view.
The margaritas go down a treat on a sunny Raglan afternoon.
Where to eat in Raglan
For a post surf brunch, I always head to The Shack in the centre of Raglan. The rustic chic cafe has a gorgeous beachy aesthetic, a cabinet well stocked with cakes, and a menu with creative breakfast and lunch options.
Another great Raglan cafe is Rock It Kitchen . Located a short drive from town on the the way to the beach and surf, Rock It was formerly a woolshed and is now a welcoming and scenic spot to enjoy a snack.
For dinner, head to ULO’s Kitchen. From the same team behind the funky corner shop is an equally vibey restaurant. ULO’s kitchen has a similar bohemian air with vintage and retro decor, along with a menu full of Asian-inspired dishes like bao buns, karaage chicken and spicy laksa.
Where to stay in Raglan
Raglan is a small town and doesn’t have a lot of large hotels. You’ll find the best places to stay on Airbnb or Bookabach.
For budget travellers, Raglan Backpackers is a great option. If you’re travelling in a certified self-contained van, you can also freedom camp in Raglan.
Getting to Raglan
Raglan is a two hour drive from Auckland, and an approximately two hour drive from Rotorua. Raglan is only a 30 minute drive from Hamilton (if you pass through Hamilton on your way to Raglan, I highly recommend stopping to see the Hamilton Gardens).
The easiest way to get to Raglan is in your own vehicle. It only takes two hours to drive from Auckland to Raglan, so it’s the ideal distance for weekend trips.
You can catch a public bus from Hamilton to Raglan. From Hamilton, there are buses connecting to Auckland and other parts of the country.
I hope you enjoyed reading about all the wonderful things to do in Raglan. It’s one of my favourite towns in New Zealand, so if you love beaches, the outdoors, and a kick-back kind of life, Raglan might be for you.
Here are some other places in the North Island that you might enjoy:

hi, my husband and i very interested to have an experience fishing on boat. However, we never tried before. we always fishing on wharf only. Do any trip for beginner or family ? may I know what is the price rate?
Prices for fishing charters are normally on a boat basis and are in the vicinity of $1000 to $2000 per day depending on where the tour goes. I suggest you contact one of the operators directly as listed below:

Hi we are planning on coming to stay in Raglan and do a spot of fishing. are there any sand beaches around without reefs roacks etc that may be suitable for the use of a contiki?
The main sand beach is Ngarunui Beach accessed off the end of Riria Kereopa Drive. There are often people line fishing there. Never seen anybody with a kontiki there.
Hello Rodger, how are you? I’m a student from the Waikato University and I’m planning to go fishing to the Raglan wharf sometime, I’ve never done any fishing at the wharf before and would like some advice on ‘what works’ in this area, what can be caught there? what bait is recommended? and what rig? I presume incoming tide will the best? Some hints from the locals to point me in the right diretion will be much appreciated, thank you 🙂
Hi Hans The fishos I’ve seen on the wharf seem to mainly catch sprats with a few kahwai and mullet fish. Hope somebody gives you some suggestions on what works best. Rodger
Hi, we have a small 4.5m boat… we would like to go fishing in raglan.. is this weekend suitable? 6th august 2011 and also do you know of any websites where we can find information about wether we should go fishing on a particular day or not…
Good day Friday, Saturday may rain and winds are likely to pick up. Check coastal forecast
Hi Rodger! You seem like the kind of chap who might be able to help me in a matter regarding a boat that used to be in Raglan. We bought her off a guy’s lawn on Wallis St, and sadly he didn’t know much of its history, and had bought it after it had been hauled for hull damage. I’d be very interested in knowing anything of its history, we haven’t been even been able to identify the design yet. Its 28 feet long, and is a wooden planing hull. Pictures can be seen here, http://adventuresofweedave.blogspot.com/2011/07/you-bought-what.html . Any help or a point in the right direction would be very much appreciated, though no worries if not 🙂 thanks!!
That’s not someting I know. I did notice the boat while it was on the property.
We are contemplating a holiday in Raglan and have a Hartley 16 trailer yacht. Is the harbour suitable for sailing yachts? We were concerned about the tidal aspect, depth of water and what the wind is like. We are considering early January 2012. Any information would be appreciated. We would be coming up from Ashburton which is a long way to bring the boat and wanted to know if is regarded as a good sailing place. Thanks for you help Chris and Joy
Hi Chris and Joy Trailer yachts and keelers do sail on the Raglan harbour. It is a tidal mud flat harbour and you’ll have to watch the tides when you are outside of the main channels. You would need to launch at either Wharf launching ramp (all tides) or at Lorenzen Bay (tidal). If you want more info email the Raglan Sailing Club (Chris & Yann) [email protected] They’ll tell you all you need to know.
I would like to launch a 14ft Tinnie at Te Akau and wondered if you could give me a headsup on whether it is a tidal ramp or all tides and I tow the boat with a car so is it suitable for that or does it require a four wheel drive. Is this same spot good for surf casting as well. Any information would be greatly appreciated
It is a tidal ramp. I seem to recall I’ve seen people fishing there at times.
Hi. Live in Hamilton, don’t have a boat and don’t have enough money to try one of the fishing expeditions. Where can I take my boys to do some fishing? Your article mentioned the Raglan wharf and jetty. Are there other similar spots we can try? Thanks
The wharf and the jetty are the main places for fishing off. People also fish at the point of the Kopua Reserve. See item at bottom of this page http://raglan.gen.nz/about-raglan/kopua-reserve/
Hi. I am visiting family in Hamilton for the month of Aug 2012. I do a lot of deep sea fishing here in South Africa and would really like a trip while I am there, if affordable. Any advice and suggestions would be most appreciated. I’m not sure if winter is the best time but I don’t have much choice. I would prefer going for game fish such as Kingfish (Yellowtail), Snoek etc. Bottom or reef fish are pretty common in my area, so something different would be great. It would just be myself. Look forward to hear from you. Have a great week ahead.
Kind regards
Peter Caine
Apologies, my correct email address is as per this one.
Hi My wife and I am planning a holiday in Raglan early December. I have a sea kayak which I fish off quite regularly and was wondering if I would have some success up the Raglan Harbour. How does soft baits work in the area or would bait fishing be better? Any hints on where to go looking at the map on this website? Thanks in anticipation. Lewis

Where to Find a Thanksgiving Meal in Disney World in 2024
Thanksgiving Day is Thursday, November 28, 2024 . The great news is that if you’re celebrating in Disney World, you can still enjoy a Thanksgiving Feast even if you’re away from home!
A full Thanksgiving spread at Liberty Tree Tavern
Here we have gathered a list of restaurants where you can find a Thanksgiving meal on the BIG HOLIDAY ! Select restaurants on our list serve holiday-style meals either year-round or throughout the holiday season . However, we also shine the spotlight on a few extra Thanksgiving meals that were served in 2023 and will update as meals are confirmed for 2024 … so check back often as you make your Disney World holiday plans !
And remember — Advance Dining Reservations for Table Service restaurants at Disney World are always highly recommended, but that is ESPECIALLY true for any major holidays.
Magic Kingdom
Liberty tree tavern — year-round.
You can get a Thanksgiving-inspired meal at Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Tree Tavern year-round . It’s a mainstay for a lot of folks visiting Magic Kingdom during this time of year, and for good reason. Oh, and did we mention it’s all-you-care-to-enjoy? Just like going back for seconds at home.
Patriot’s Platter
The menu features items like pot roast, roasted turkey breast, oven-roasted pork, mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, mac & cheese, and herb stuffing. There are even options for special diets like plant-based, gluten-, and dairy-free eaters. Don’t skip dessert either — that Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake is one of our favorite desserts in Magic Kingdom!
Diamond Horseshoe — Year-Round
Just steps away, you’ll find The Diamond Horseshoe, which features a similar menu to Liberty Tree Tavern under a different name — the Frontier Feast. It’s also all-you-care-to-enjoy and has the same items you’ll find at Liberty Tree Tavern.
Even though Disney World — and Magic Kingdom especially — can be seriously busy during Thanksgiving, having two options for the traditional turkey day meal in this park is a game changer!
Garden Grill — Year-Round
This EPCOT spot focuses on comfort food, which means you can find a lot of Thanksgiving items on this all-you-care-to-enjoy menu. And the best part? It’s a CHARACTER MEAL featuring Chip ‘n Dale along with Pluto and Mickey Mouse, so you get to celebrate with some of the most popular Disney pals!
Farmer’s Skillet at the Harvest Feast
The family-style feast comes with a salad, grilled beef, and a berry shortcake for dessert, but you’ll also get some Thanksgiving eats alongside those items. Barbecue roasted chicken, macaroni & cheese, seasonal vegetables, and creamy mashed potatoes will all be brought to your table as well.
Hollywood Studios
Hollywood & vine — minnie’s seasonal holiday dine.
You can celebrate the winter holidays alongside Minnie and her friends at Minnie’s Holiday Dine !
Minnie’s Holiday Dine!
This buffet has often included offerings such as carved herb-roasted turkey breast with g arlic redskin mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing, sautéed green beans, turkey gravy, and cranberry orange relish for Thanksgiving . And Minnie, Mickey, Goofy, and Pluto will visit your table in their HOLIDAY BEST while you dine!

©Homecomin’
The meal (which feeds four people) cost a total of $200 plus tax. Homecomin’ said that this is “perfect for those staying on property or for those who want to take a break from cooking this year” — so if you’ll be staying at a Disney World hotel around Turkey Day, this might be a great choice!
It’s important to note that pickup was available on November 21st and 22nd only — not on the 23rd (Thanksgiving Day in 2023). There are limited quantities of pick-up meals available. If you want to grab one, we recommend putting in your pre-order early . You’ll fill out the form here and Homecomin’ will contact you with payment and pick-up instructions:

Goofy at Ravello
Also at Ravello , from 1PM to 8PM , you could dine on a “decadent buffet with an incredible assortment of offerings, from a sushi and seafood station to a mouth-watering tapas station.” There was also be a carving station with ribeye, ham, and turkey. Sides will include roasted sweet potato purée, Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and more. Four Seasons
Michelin-starred Capa featured its regular menu along with a few Thanksgiving specials: Olla Gitana, Almogrote la Gomera, and a turkey plate entrée.
Wet Aged Ribeye from Capa
The Lobby Bar opened early for football fans to catch the game and featured a Turkey Ballotine special with braised mustard greens, potato dauphinoise, traditional stuffing, cranberry compote, green bean almondine, roasted carrots, and gravy. YUM.

- Rating: 5 05/24/2023 First of all, I was knocked over by the promotional postcard I received. Cleverest marketing ever: our name on all the products. I couldn't resist the humor of the Yacht Club. Ours consists of a sailing dinghy and a small motorboat. But the nicely etched rocks glasses class up the cottage. Well done. And quickly, too. I'll remember this for future gifts. Restaurant-Yacht Chaika
Ratings and reviews, location and contact.
Pleasantly surprised, service is good so is the food. Great selection of Fusion food, a mixture of Italian, Japanese, European, Asian etc. A pleasantly nice dining experience, highly recommended, a must try!
Thank you for your feedback and invite you to have lunch or dinner again aboard the ship in an atmosphere of high standards of yacht hospitality.
everything was perfect - the food, the service, the desserts were the best, nice atmosphere and the location - magical
Best food, best view in Moscow. absolutely faultless from arrival to finish. Best risotto i had for many years absolutely perfectly cooked. The view on Ukrainian hotel and the white house by night is amazing
Had to wait for the food for 1.5 hours and then another 20 minutes for the check. Finally called for the manager and he offered... a 10% discount as a compensation. Simply pathetic! The food is mediocre at best. Not bad per se, but one... would expect something better considering the prices. There are many places to eat in area that are much better. Avoid this one at all costs. Hello, Alexander Your comment is extremely important for us, thank you a lot for it. We are terribly sorry for your time that you`ve spent waiting your order and we have already taken actions to improve quality of our service and it would be realy... More
Food is very expensive, very pretentious, doesn't worth that money. Portions are very small. We ordered ravioli and there were 4! Four raviolis! For almost 15 euros. Then we asked to bring us dessert menu but nothing, they didn't even bothered, so we payed and left... without dessert. Very poor service for that price. More
This is a very good restaurant. The food is really good, maybe the best in Moscow. The service is also good. The view from the restaurant is great. The prices are very high.
I often visit this restaurant and must say it’s one of the best in Moscow in terms of quality and service. Staff really try hard to make sure that you are happy and satisfied. Customer service is a huge problem in Moscow but Chaika sets... a great example for others in the industry! Food is delicious and the menu has lots of options for everyone! Atmosphere is great and view is beautiful on the embankment. Special thanks to German & Oleg! More
Thank you for your feedback! Again aboard the yacht restaurant "Chaika" in accordance with the high standards of yacht hospitality.
Highly recommended, great location in the city center of Moscow with a superb atmosphere. Too many menu choices, though all delicious!
Thx a lot for your review! We are looking forward to see you in our restaurants.
Visited this lovely restaurant with a friend of mine. It was relaxingly warm August evening - so the place on the river seemed like a good idea. We came quite early and the restaurant was not full. The hostesses kindly offered several places to sit... and we chose to sit on the sofas. We had some wine, which was good. We struggled a bit when deciding about the food as few options (scallops) were not available. Fish on ice on display did not look very fresh. To be honest it was an unusually hot August and it is probably understandable that some see food options were not available. However, we did manage to order something and sat waiting and looking onto the river. My long-legged friend struggled sitting at the low sofa and the manager noticed that, offering as a very good, proper table beside the open window. It was nice touch and I was very pleased by their polite observations and immediate reaction to solve the problem. Food was quite good and presentation was perfect. Perhaps I can something about the food, but 1 visit is not enough to criticize or make a definitive opinion. Overall, quality place, which of course, does not come cheap. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. More
Good afternoon! Thank you for your detailed feedback! We are looking forward to seeing you again, we are sure that you will be delighted with our dishes!
I've been here several times during two business trip in Moscow. The overall quality for both service and food is absolutely top-notch, plus the location is very unique.
Hello! Thank you for your feedback! We are looking forward to visiting again!
Located on a boat at Krasnopresenskaya River Bank this 5 Star Restaurant transforms into a party location due to multiple groups hosting events. Impressive wine selection, Asian and European kitchen...
Thx a lot! We are waiting for you!
It is a nice place to gather specially at the lounge The service and staff very good I like the river view The food is almost like all restaurants in Russia they serve different cuisine. Staring Russian appetizer till Asian dishes Presentation and taste amazing... I consider it overpriced little bit More
Good location. Nice views. Good choice of food and drinks. European and Asian menu. Nice service. Pricey enough.
Had a large group dinner here. Food was above average and service quite good. The real attraction is the view of Moscow from the river on a nice night. Great place for a larger group dinner. More

The luxurious atmosphere of this place, the view and the location make it quite outstanding. We had dinner here with friends and the dishes were amazing, accompanied by a chilled bottle of Chablis, it really made me feel as if it was a part of... the classic Russian movie. More

Milwaukee Yacht Club Worth $2.28 Million
But is it really the oldest yacht club on Lake Michigan?
Milwaukee Yacht Club. Photo by Graham Kilmer.
On February 26th, 1967, Milwaukee County Executive John Doyne and the officers of the Milwaukee Yacht Club sank silver shovels into the sandy soil of McKinley Park to break ground for a new clubhouse. Back on November 23rd, 1943, at the height of World War II, the original 1896 frame building located there had burned down to its pilings. At the time, the United States Navy took precedence over private sailing clubs when it came to requisitioning construction supplies, so, in 1945, the members assembled a “temporary” clubhouse from materials they could scratch together until a new home could be built. Now, nearly a quarter-century later, at last construction could begin.
But as the days of the war economy were long over, why did it take until 1967 for a permanent home to be built?
A Decades-Long Battle Goes to Supreme Court — Twice
In 1887 the city created Flushing Tunnel Park (now McKinley Park) as part of a sanitary improvement designed to pump Lake Michigan water into the polluted Milwaukee River , discharging it just downstream from the North Avenue Dam, in an area that abounded with tanneries and other heavy industrial uses. The idea was that the water would dilute and flush the noxious effluvia that emanated from the factories into the lake. It was realized that the channel that led to the pumping station (now Colectivo Lakefront) could also serve as a harbor for small vessels such as personal sailboats.
In 1907 it was determined that such filled lakebed land “was and had been the property of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad, and not the City of Milwaukee.” (Railroads were notorious land-grabbers.) In 1913, the railroad quit-claimed the property to the city “upon condition that it be maintained by the city at all times for park purposes.” If not, the land would revert to the railroad.
Thus, matters stood for a generation until 1936 when, in an early example of intergovernmental consolidation, voters approved a referendum to transfer all city park property to the county to create a unified park system. Hundreds of acres, including the Yacht Club site were conveyed to the county on November 12th, 1936.
Shortly after the 1943 fire the county sought to evict the yacht club. This resulted in litigation and a number of appeals that went on for years. The walls of the temporary clubhouse echoed with the laments of members: What could be worse? To have to scuttle one’s vessel or be obliged to join the South Shore Yacht Club? Either option would be unthinkable. The club claimed it owned the site due to adverse possession, hiring Louis Quarles to make their case. This claim was rejected in a 1950 Supreme Court decision, which sent the matter back to the lower court. Then, in 1951, the court again settled some technical issues in the case, which at this time involved Milwaukee County as appellant, versus the City of Milwaukee as defendant and the Milwaukee Yacht Club as respondent. The county was granted ownership of the land, which it retains to this day. Even so, it took another 16 years to get around to building the new facility.
A Taxable Building on Tax-Exempt Land
In what may be a unique situation, we have before us a privately owned building (taxable) sited on publicly owned land (non-taxable). The 2-story brick clubhouse of 9,500 square feet features a number of amenities for its members, according to its website .
They include:
- The main dining room overlooking the harbor.
- Private east-facing banquet room known as the Cove.
- Conference room known as the Library.
- Expansive Main Bar with seating and private wine lockers.
- Lounge with a fireplace.
- Outdoor patio with seating overlooking the harbor.
- Wrap-around deck with bistro seating overlooking the grounds.
- The “Boatique”
There is also a 21st century outdoor pool and other improvements to the facility, including a large crane to hoist boats in and out of the water. Plans are afoot to replace the fixed docks with floating docks, and the Parks Department is making improvements to the flushing channel walls in conjunction with the club.

It is now the Boathouse, the Dockmaster’s office, event and classroom space as well as locker rooms for the pool and hot tub.
The City assesses the improvements at $2,288,000, while the exempt land is not valued. Property tax of $53,995.76 is current on the installment payment plan. Additionally, the County receives $68,000 in annual rent from the club. This payment more than offsets the sum the county would have received as its portion of the tax on the land. The 25-year contract was renewed in 2018 at the current rate.
The Bottom Line
The Club’s IRS Form 990 for the year 2022 shows total assets of $3,449,892 (2021: $1,999,192) and total liabilities of $2,259,675 (2021: $453,396) for a net asset of $1,190,217 (2021: $1,545,796). Revenues were $1,754,339 (2021: $2,271,859) and expenses were $2,109,918 (2021: $1,631,130) for a net income of -$355,597 (2021: +$640,729).
Income from public use of the club facilities was $203,666 (2021: $157,860). The highest paid employee is club manager Matt Michael , who earned $110,746 (2021: $108,537).
Oldest Active Yacht Club on Lake Michigan?
There is something about the water that leads to tall tales, from the mermaids and sirens of antiquity to a fisherman’s estimate of the size of the musky that got away from him on Potato Lake one summer.
The clearheaded landlubbers at the Milwaukee County Historical Society , unintoxicated by the romance of the sea, report that The Milwaukee Yacht Club was indeed organized in 1871 by 25 Milwaukeeans, “but the organization died out by 1878. It revived in 1884 but again was short-lived.” The current Milwaukee Yacht Club was organized in 1894. However, in 1945, the original Milwaukee Yacht Club was once again revived. The defunct club then merged with the current club, thus giving it rights to claim to be the oldest operating yacht club on Lake Michigan.

What? Walk score 50, “Good Transit?”? The closest transit is a hike across the park and a tough bluff-scale away, the 30 bus on Prospect.

The Yot Club is a bit of an institution in Raglan. The first time I heard people talk about it, I pictured a swanky place on the waterfront where people dress up and sip cocktails — a yacht club. Raglan's Yot Club is nothing like that. It's the kind of place that has sticky floors and funky bathrooms with questionable cleanliness.
