Set against the backdrop of your chosen cruising ground, you and your guests can enjoy fun on the water with the collection of water toys and accessories aboard Shu U Rite. Principle among these are towable toys offering fun and adventure. Another excellent feature are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. First 33.7m Curvelle quaranta power catamaran superyacht in build

The hull of the largest carbon hybrid composite power catamaran in the world has been built at Logos Marine in Turkey, where production continues in full swing with a view to delivering the yacht in November 2012. The quaranta , as it is called, is a flagship vessel - the first to be built after four years of development by Curvelle, the company set up by Luuk van Zanten to design and build power catamarans, which he believes 'will change cruising forever'.

'We are not reinventing the wheel,' says van Zanten. 'We have taken well proven concepts and applied these to our design. The difference is that they have not previously been seen combined in one single yacht.'

For a start there is the very sound, albeit workhorse ferry catamaran platform. It is a hull form that specialist catamaran naval architect Incat Crowther has perfected, having over 300 designs launched and in service, and it has the advantage of having been tried and tested for fuel efficiency, performance and comfort ratios.

'Catamarans are more efficient and more stable,' says van Zanten. 'They are a lot more comfortable on the water and unbeatable when it comes to performance, range and fuel economy.' In the quaranta 's efficient hull form this translates to a comfortable cruising speed of 22 knots, and a 30 per cent reduction in fuel consumption at speeds over 20 knots.

What is unusual is that the hull configuration is also suitable for non-planing speeds and at an economical speed of 10 knots quaranta has a transatlantic range. This makes the cruising speed spectrum and cruising experience a lot more versatile.

However, for Curvelle, the challenge lay in making the efficient catamaran ferry platform into a beautiful-looking yacht. To this end the Curvelle team – which apart from Incat Crowther, includes London-based designers Lila-Lou, responsible for both interior and exterior design – embarked on a four-year development programme which entailed tank- and computer-testing the platform, designing three different versions, producing over 350 3D renderings and building 15 scale models.

Flexible guest accommodation

Then there is the space and flexibility that a catamaran affords - with a 9 metre beam and the stability provided by two hulls, the 33.7 metre semi displacement yacht not only has four decks, but also the equivalent guest space of a 40 metre monohull. Indeed, this is the inspiration for the yacht's name quaranta - forty in Italian, and also a nod to the yacht's Italian exterior stylist Mauro Giamboi of Lila-Lou (and formerly Bannenberg).

Total flexibility is key to the quaranta 's layout, which includes six generously sized double cabins that can be reconfigured into three VIPs, six twins or any combination of these. There are, in fact, a choice of over 20 different layouts on this yacht, and the crew can change the configuration with only a few hour's notice. Such flexible guest accommodation is an idea taken from the hotel industry but adapted and improved for the quaranta . Although it is certainly not unusual for superyachts to have cabins that can be reconfigured into suites, it is quite unique for every cabin to be adaptable.

All cabins are on the main deck, which means they have the benefit of huge windows - 2.5m in length and nearly a metre in height. During the day, the guest cabins can become mini saloons, giving guests the choice of spending time in their cabins during the day if they don't wish to socialise in the main guest areas.

The guest areas include a large saloon on the main deck with views from a higher level than on a monohull – and thus more privacy when in port – and an indoor/outdoor dining area for up to 12 guests with opening glass partitions. The interior style is modern Italian – pared back elegance with a touch of luxury.

The yacht's six crew will be accommodated in comfortably spacious crew quarters, designed in line with new commercial yacht LY3 regulations.

Deck spaces on board the quaranta are also very versatile with a large sun deck featuring a 12-seater al fresco dining table, a fully equipped bar, dumb waiter for bringing meals up and of course sunloungers, sun pads and a spa pool. There are additional sunlounging and dining areas on the main fore deck.

The large main deck aft is dual-purpose: a working/toy and tender storage deck when under way and a guest deck when in port and the tender is berthed in the tunnel between the hulls. Its hydraulic lifting platform allows guests to step straight on to the limousine tender on board and be lowered into the water or vice versa. When the platform is lowered it can be used as a beach deck for guests.

The yacht is being built from a carbon fibre hybrid material (carbon fibre woven together with e-glass) laminated on an Airex PVC core and bonded with epoxy as a composite. Although expensive, these materials have the long term cost benefits of lower weight, lower maintenance, higher durability and longevity. The lighter weight also means smaller engines are required to propel the vessel, and although a catamaran requires two engine rooms - one in each hull - this adds to redundancy, should anything happen to one of the hulls.

Despite the cost of building a catamaran with its two hulls and two engine rooms, Curvelle has worked hard to obtain optimum cost-quality-benefit rations, and the first quaranta will be on sale for a surprisingly low introductory price of €9.68 million, which is about half the cost of a performance monohull with similar guest areas.

Curvelle is also proposing a fractional ownership programme, which broadens the market for the quaranta considerably.

He has been the captain of M/Y Quaranta since her launch and cruised the yacht with owners and guests on the Turkish Riviera last summer. Paul has a good understanding of what safety on a superyacht means and is keen to offer his guests a wonderful cruising experience. __________________________________________________________ CHIEF STEWARDESS: Eva Oplustilova (Czech) Eva is a motivated, ambitious and passionate stewardess. Having worked in yachting industry since 2013, her goal has always been to become a complete professional. Eva has a positive and friendly personality. With such an approach, she can motivate people, solve problems with cool head or help to overcome hard times. She isn’t afraid to work hard and likes to do so with a good mood and smile. A multi award-winning power catamaran, QUARANTA is 34.1m (111ft) and hailed as the largest carbon hybrid superyacht catamaran for charter in the world. This 34m superyacht catamaran has as much interior and exterior volume as other performance monohulls in the 40 - 42m range. QUARANTA is available for charter in Croatia.

QUARANTA has four decks and a massive beam of 9m. On the main deck, her accommodation features six double staterooms with European king-size beds, each with an ensuite and huge picture windows to capture the passing panoramas.

But unique to QUARANTA is her extremely flexible layout, which can be arranged from three luxurious suites to double and single bed accommodation for 12 charter guests, reconfigured by the crew in a matter of a few hours. Over 20 layout configurations are possible to suit any charter request.

The saloon, dining room, bridge and aft deck are on the deck above. The top deck offers a Jacuzzi, bar and additional dining area for twelve charter guests. On the aft saloon deck, there is an alfresco lounge area, connecting directly to the main saloon dining area. Forward, there is even more room dedicated to dining, sunbathing or socialising.

On the upper deck, there is a dining space, lounge area and Jacuzzi pool – ideal for whiling away your days and enjoying the best views.

Unique to QUARANTA is her transom lifting platform which can be lowered to bring charter guests closer to water level for dining, lounging or access to the sea. This clever platform can become a "beach". The platform can lift the tender with guests in it from the water to the main deck level. Or when slightly submerged, it can be activated as a spa, complete with bubbles and waterfall!

On board for charter leisure, QUARANTA'S water toys include two Bladefish sea jets, two inflatable stand-up paddleboards, wakeboard, kneeboard, water skis, snorkelling gear and fishing equipment. For the young and young at heart, there are inflatables and other towable toys.

At the moment under construction in Turkey , the ‘smart’ motor yacht Quaranta by Curvelle is currently the largest carbon hybrid composite power catamaran in the world. Quaranta superyacht boasts a re-configurable interior, super huge windows and plenty more. She is also the ideal vessel for anyone who requires wheelchair access.

Also recently announced was the Curvelle syndicate ownership initiative which certainly caught the imagination of many yachtsmen who want superyacht benefits and luxury for the investment level of a new 55ft motor boat.

Clean sheet of paper As with other announcements from Curvelle regarding the ‘quaranta’ yachts series the phrase ‘a clean sheet of paper’ can be used. Why? because the whole project and development has not had to be compromised by old thinking or normal yacht design parameters or restrictions. The vision was to design and build a unique compact superyacht on a highly stable catamaran hull form.

The list of benefits is extensive, fast, fuel efficient and as much interior volume and deck space as a mono hull yacht nearly 10m longer.

The 34m twin hull with a 9m beam allows for a wide hydraulic aft platform between the hulls that can launch the tender, create a beach club or even accommodate a small submarine (even a 4×4 vehicle) and very specific to this news review, create the ideal platform for access when boarding guests with mobility restrictions from a tender.

Taking the elevator to the sun deck or making a splash at the beach club The Curvelle team took a detailed view on how to create the ideal custom yacht solution for owners or guests with reduced mobility beyond the benefits already incorporated in the original design.

The whole process from the tender design, passerelle and movement to all decks was carefully considered then enhanced further with the addition of electric powered berths and the aft platform being able to submerge some 85cm to enable easy swimming.

Curvelle founder Luuk V. van Zanten takes up the story “In her standard configuration the ‘quaranta’ makes an ideal yacht for anyone who requires wheelchair access, the tender platform can be used to facilitate wheelchair movements, the interior as standard has wide doors to all areas and the side decks at 92cm wide can also be easily accessed. Add to this an optional ‘stair climber’ apparatus which can get a wheelchair up the staircases in less than one minute, the ‘quaranta’ is ideal for wheelchair users.

“Our original research found that superyacht owners very often had older parents who need wheelchair assistance and found it frustrating that they could not be included in the cruising itinerary. That’s why we addressed this factor right from the start. We obviously prioritised getting the project underway and starting the build of the first yacht, which incidentally is on schedule, before we completed the design scheme for a more specialised custom yacht where we added a glazed lift.

Luxury catamaran yacht Quaranta in build

Here is a look at a typical scenario and how the mobility systems dovetail seamlessly together on the standard version. A crew member lowers the XL size passerelle onto the quay where the owner or guest can drive a powered wheelchair or mobility scooter onto the aft main deck and access any of the six guest cabins on this level.

The cruising experience also includes powered articulated beds so when relaxing in the cabin the owner or guest can enjoy the panoramic views offered by the extralarge windows. The cabins are so different from most yachts of this size with window spaces of nearly 2.8 x 1m creating a cabin ambience of a small cruise liner.

If the owner or guest would like the ‘spa’ treatment a waterproof wheelchair can safely lower the person into the water down to a depth of 85cm, for seawater swimming with other guests. The lowered platform then rises to become the beach club, which can have a floating safety net to keep out unwanted marine life. Under the platform are air nozzles to complete the ‘spa’ experience. The outdoor ambience is further enhanced by two seawater waterfalls and as the sun goes down the underwater lighting turns the whole experience into a floor show.

On a custom version, forward on the main deck is a compact glazed elevator which accommodates the scooter. This then allows access to the upper deck and upwards to the sundeck. The glazed lift on the sun deck is cleverly incorporated at the front of the fixed bimini which has been extended forward to incorporate this feature.

Pleasantly surprised, service is good so is the food. Great selection of Fusion food, a mixture of Italian, Japanese, European, Asian etc. A pleasantly nice dining experience, highly recommended, a must try!

The food is mediocre at best. Not bad per se, but one... would expect something better considering the prices. There are many places to eat in area that are much better. Avoid this one at all costs. Food is very expensive,very pretentious, doesn't worth that money. Portions are very small. We ordered ravioli and there were 4! Four raviolis! For almost 15 euros. Then we asked to bring us dessert menu but nothing, they didn't even bothered, so we payed and left... without dessert. Very poor service for that price. More

Visited this lovely restaurant with a friend of mine. It was relaxingly warm August evening - so the place on the river seemed like a good idea. We came quite early and the restaurant was not full. The hostesses kindly offered several places to sit... and we chose to sit on the sofas. We had some wine, which was good. We struggled a bit when deciding about the food as few options (scallops) were not available. Fish on ice on display did not look very fresh. To be honest it was an unusually hot August and it is probably understandable that some see food options were not available. However, we did manage to order something and sat waiting and looking onto the river. My long-legged friend struggled sitting at the low sofa and the manager noticed that, offering as a very good, proper table beside the open window. It was nice touch and I was very pleased by their polite observations and immediate reaction to solve the problem. Food was quite good and presentation was perfect. Perhaps I can something about the food, but 1 visit is not enough to criticize or make a definitive opinion. Overall, quality place, which of course, does not come cheap. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. More
