A cabin motorboat is a type of motorboat with an enclosed cabin space.

This type of boat is designed for comfortable cruising and often includes amenities such as a kitchenette, sleeping quarters, and a restroom.

Cabin motorboats are typically larger than other types of motorboats, and can range from 20 to 80 feet in length.

They are great for recreational boating and can easily be used for weekend getaways and longer trips.

What is a Cabin Motorboat?

A cabin motorboat is a type of powerboat that features an enclosed cabin designed for comfort and safety.

It is usually used for leisure activities such as fishing, water sports, and recreational cruising.

The cabin can come in a variety of sizes, ranging from small two-person models to larger ones with sleeping quarters and amenities suitable for extended trips.

Cabin motorboats are powered by either outboard motors or inboard/outboard motors.

Outboard motors are highly reliable and can be used to power smaller boats.

Inboard/outboard motors are more powerful, but require more maintenance.

Cabin motorboats are designed to be durable and seaworthy, allowing them to navigate choppy waters and handle rough weather.

The most obvious benefit of owning a cabin motorboat is the convenience factor.

Safety Considerations for Cabin Motorboats

3 cabin motorboat

When it comes to operating a cabin motorboat, it’s important to remember that these vessels are designed for recreational use and should not be used for any type of commercial activity.

Furthermore, there are several safety considerations to keep in mind while operating these vessels.

First, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the vessel, its controls, and any safety equipment on board.

A good practice is to inspect the cabin and all safety equipment before each voyage.

Make sure that the boat is equipped with life jackets, a fire extinguisher, flares, and other safety gear.

It’s also important to make sure that the boat is properly registered and insured.

It’s also important to observe all local and federal laws while operating the boat.

Be sure to check the local weather and tidal conditions before heading out on the water.

Additionally, be aware of the rules and regulations for motorboat operation in the area, as well as any posted speed limits.

It’s also important to be aware of the potential dangers of operating a cabin motorboat.

These vessels are not designed for extended offshore journeys, and can be vulnerable to rough seas and storms.

Be sure to have a plan in place for dealing with any potential emergencies, such as a breakdown or an injury.

Finally, make sure that the vessel is properly maintained.

Check the fuel, oil, and other fluids regularly, and make sure that the engine is in good working order.

Be sure to inspect the hull and deck for any signs of wear or damage, and replace any worn or damaged parts as needed.

By keeping these safety considerations in mind, you can ensure that your time spent on a cabin motorboat is both enjoyable and safe.

Features to Look for When Buying a Cabin Motorboat

When shopping for a cabin motorboat, its important to consider the features that will make for a comfortable, enjoyable, and safe time on the water. Cabin motorboats come in a variety of sizes and configurations, so its important to find one that meets all of your needs. Here are some features to look for when buying a cabin motorboat:

Layout: The layout of your cabin motorboat will determine how much room you have for storage, seating, and sleeping accommodations. Look for a boat with ample seating and storage, as well as plenty of headroom and elbowroom. If you plan to use your boat for overnight trips, make sure it has a private sleeping area.

Power: Cabin motorboats come in a variety of sizes and configurations, and the type of motor you choose will depend on the size and weight of your boat. Smaller boats will require less power, while larger boats will need more. Outboard motors offer the most power and are typically the most economical choice, while inboard/outboard motors are more powerful and provide more control and maneuverability.

Safety: Safety should always be a top concern when choosing a cabin motorboat. Look for a boat with sturdy construction, and make sure it has plenty of safety features, such as life jackets, fire extinguishers, and navigation lights. Additionally, check to make sure the boat has a reliable bilge system to keep the engine and battery compartments dry.

Comfort: When it comes to comfort, look for a boat that has comfortable seating and a spacious cabin. If you plan to entertain guests, look for a boat with a large seating area and plenty of room for food and drinks. Additionally, look for a boat with plenty of ventilation, as well as awnings or canopies to keep passengers out of the sun and rain.

Maintenance: Finally, its important to consider the maintenance needs of your cabin motorboat. Look for a boat with a reliable engine and hull, as well as one that doesnt require too much upkeep. Additionally, make sure you have access to a reputable marina or service center that can handle any repairs or maintenance your boat might need.

Finding the right cabin motorboat can be a daunting task, but taking the time to consider all of the features and options available can help you find the perfect boat for your needs.

By keeping these features in mind, you can ensure you find a boat that is comfortable, reliable, and safe.

Maintenance Requirements for Cabin Motorboats

3 cabin motorboat

When it comes to maintenance of a cabin motorboat, there are a few key elements to keep in mind.

First, the boat should be inspected regularly for any signs of wear or damage.

This includes checking the hull and deck for cracks or dents, and inspecting the engine and other mechanical components for proper functioning.

It is also important to check that the boat has adequate fuel, oil, and coolant.

Regular cleaning and waxing of the hull and deck is essential for keeping your boat in top condition.

Additionally, all hardware, such as cleats, railings, and other fixtures, should be inspected for corrosion and wear.

It is also important to check the condition of the propeller and other steering components, and to make sure that the boat’s steering and navigational systems are functioning properly.

Finally, routine maintenance of the boat’s electrical systems should be performed to ensure that the boat is safe and reliable.

Overall, maintaining a cabin motorboat is similar to maintaining any other powerboat.

Regular inspections, cleaning, and maintenance will keep it running smoothly and ensure that it is seaworthy.

With the proper care, a cabin motorboat can provide years of enjoyable and safe boating experiences.

Star Trek: Alternate Realities DVD Review

Deja vu redux..

Themed collections — can't stand them. If you're a fan that wants a particular show (or shows) on DVD, you're almost inevitably going to be more inclined to want complete season sets than these very subjective, occasionally arbitrary greatest hits collections. Oh sure, they're not all double- or triple-dipping terrors. There are more casual viewers that might be interested in buying a bunch of similarly themed episodes instead of a complete series, but it's hardly likely that some jokers at the DVD company will come up with exactly the same selections that you want too.

But of course the themed collections keep coming, and with Alternate Realities Collective we get a very broadly interpreted look at the many worlds of Star Trek in which the timeline was changed, the universe itself was altered, or someone just had a double generated by a transporter accident. So if "The Enemy Within" counts — and I'm sorry, it doesn't — then why isn't TNG 's "Second Chances" with two Rikers in this box? Or that time-twisting one with two Picards, "Time Squared?" Oh sorry, I'm not supposed to poke holes through the weird logic in the episode selections, am I?

Of course the largest proportion of material in this collection comprises the episodes of the original series, Deep Space Nine and Enterprise that gave us glimpses into the so-called Mirror Universe, that amazingly clichéd reality in which almost everyone is inexplicably evil and sex-crazed. You can tell this because of all the goatees and gold lamé on display. While the set-up is pretty pat, the original classic "Mirror, Mirror" has a simple comic book charm. The concept begins to betray some weaknesses when transplanted to Deep Space Nine , not least in that Mirror Major Kira is a manipulative power-mad lesbian that should make viewers wonder whether the show is implying that her overt alternative sexuality is somehow shorthand for evil or perversion. But never mind, she keeps trying to kiss all her female co-stars, so that'll keep the fanboys watching.

Scattershot though these boxes may be, this collection winds up offering two of the most moving, tear-inducing episodes ever presented under the Trek umbrella, and after a box of tissues or so, I can definitely report that TNG 's "The Inner Light" and DS9 's "The Visitor" still pack a profound punch. They are both lyrical, poetic, and solid offerings from series at the height of their powers, with Tony Todd's turn as the older Jake Sisko in "The Visitor" of particular note. TNG racks up another couple hits here with the beautiful dark time travel episode "Yesterday's Enterprise," featuring Denise Crosby's only welcome return to the series, and "Parallels," a late-era tour de force with Worf skipping through parallel realities until thousands of Enterprises start popping up everywhere. The Borg-infested universe's shaggy Riker is a highlight.

It isn't all peaches and cream — I mean, come on, "The Alternative Factor?" Not to mention any episode of Voyager focusing on Kes…hell, any episode of Voyager at all . But even with some disappointments and my qualms about themed collections, it is intriguing that the Alternate Realities (Fan Collective) boasts a high ratio of classics to clunkers. Apart from the dismal Voyager and Enterprise offerings — a CGI Gorn, I ask you — this is a decent enough box of Trek memories to experience anew. Now everyone get out your Ressikan flute and follow along with the music…

Score: 7 out of 10

Video and Presentation

The DVDs present all the episodes in their original 4:3 aspect ratio (with the widescreen Enterprise episodes presented in 16:9). The video quality varies only slightly as expected with the source material. Most of the post- TNG material is uniformly sparkling and clear, while the original series episodes are fine if just a bit more obviously aged. These are the remastered versions with new special effects shots, however.

Languages and Audio

The episodes are presented with a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack with English and Spanish options as well as English, Spanish and Portuguese subtitles. All of the soundtracks are clear and crisp.

Score: 8 out of 10

Packaging and Extras

Extras include:

  • Of the 20 episodes included in the set, only a quarter of them feature audio commentaries, presented entirely by production personnel like Brannon Braga or David Livingston. Not only do they lack the real personality and excitement factor that could only be provided by some of the actors involved in the episodes, but the original series episode commentary for "The Enemy Within" isn't even offered by anyone involved with the actual episode. Rather William Shatner's word processors, Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, chime in here. The six featurettes are mostly flat affairs with — surprise — some of the usual suspects rounded up from the audio commentaries with the addition of some other Trek writers. Score: 4 out of 10The Bottom Line Like most themed collections, this is a mixed bag with some odd thinking behind it, but if you're just getting the box for the relatively high ratio of classic episodes, it's worth it.

Alternate realities fan collective.

TV Shows on DVD.com have reorted Paramount have annouced a new Fan Collective themed DVD collection. Titled Alternate Realities , it will be " a collection featuring bizarre and strange of episodes...see your favorite characters behaving contrary to type, in familiar but odd circumstances". The set, out in mid-September, will be five dics with twenty episodes and some special features, but that's all they know so far. I had a vague memory of a StarTrek.com poll on the Fan Collective sets suggesting a set like this which contained all the mirror universe episodes and a random assortment of other alternate timelines/reality episodes …and after a trip to google I found that poll - if Paramount stick with that original plan the set will include the eight mirror episodes plus a selection from the following:

The Enterprise episodes: "Shockwave", "Vanishing Point", "Twilight", "Carpenter Street", "E 2 " and "Storm Front". Just one TOS episode (other than "Mirror Mirror"): "The Alternative Factor". TNG episodes "Time Squared", "Remember Me", "Future Imperfect" and "Parallels". DS9 ’s "Visionary", "The Visitor", "Things Past", "Children of Time" and "Far Beyond the Stars". And Voyager ’s "Non Sequitur", "Deadlock", "Future’s End", "Before and After", "Timeless", "Fury" and "Shattered".

Fits in rather nicely with all the mirror universe and alternate reality stuff coming out of Pocket and IDW lately.

  • Total of 5 disks
  • Exclusive special features
  • Standard DVD only
  • Street Date: September 16, 2008
  • Runtime: 15 Hr. 17 Min. 52 Sec.
  • Languages: Brazilian Portuguese Dubbed & Subtitled, English Subtitled, Latin American Spanish Dubbed & Subtitle

Official synopsis reads:

Available for the first time on DVD is a collection featuring the bizarre and strange of episodes of Star Trek! See your favorite characters behaving contrary to type in familiar but odd circumstances in Star Trek: Alternate Realities.

The set is not yet available for pre-order and there is no pricing or box art available. As more information comes out TrekMovie.com will provide updates.

What 20 episodes? No indication yet, but obviously the Mirror Universe will be a big part of the set and that has one TOS episode, two Enterprise episodes and five in Deep Space Nine . Other possibilities would be episodes like TNG’s " Parallels " or maybe even Voyager’s " Living Witness ." There has already been a Fan Collective set on Time Travel and it contained many alternate timeline episodes like TNG’s "Yesterday’s Enterprise," and Voyager’s "Year of Hell" so it is unclear if those would be on this set.

Fan Collective series The Alternate reality set will be the sixth ‘Fan Collective’ from Paramount. The first four (Borg, Q, Time Travel, & Klingon) were put out in 2006, with the last (Captains Log) in the summer of 2007. All of them contained a dozen or more episodes (including many two parters). The special features for the first four sets were limited to new text commentaries on a handful of episodes. However, the 2007 "Captain’s Log" set had a number of video special features with all five of Star Trek’s captains. Apparently the new set will follow suit with its own video special features

All the previous Fan Collectives are available at Amazon individually for around $31, and also in a box with all five sets included:

The Klingon Collective featured “Way of the Warrior” which was some of the best 2 hours of Trek I have ever seen!

The only real Star Trek is TNG

I wish that they hadn’t of duplicated episodes of the different collectives. I hated shelling out 30 bucks a pop when some of the episodes on the new collective had already been on the previous collective once or twice!

Finally there will be a collective with all the Mirror Universe episodes!

jmdiaz, warning for trolling and flaming in the collective thread

all trek is real trek…dont try and spark a my trek is better flame war.

It’s about time we got a new Collective DVD coming out!

IMHO, they should stop doing these ‘collective’ sets – don’t we have all of the series anyways and can’t we pick our own favorites – and should really focus on some Blu-Ray releases, particularly the TOS:R sets and 10 movies.

In case you are unaware, you do not have to buy them, caprrtavis.

Hmmm – Rumor part of the new STAR TREK movie deals with one or more alternate timeline and then we get this box set.

Have we gotten a Time-Travel box yet?

Yes, it was the 3rd i believe.

The should have a TNG collective or something like that.

Its simple, repackage old products in a new format these collections. Its good business on the part of the studio especially if they get a lot of fans to plunk down money for these special additions. Its not an unusual practice some years ago the Comic book industry put out the same comic book with multiple covers that they declared collectible, of course it backfired on them because of market saturation In publishing you get book companies that put out special additions of classic fantasy and science fiction books. How many special additions of the lord of the Rings books are their? answer lots and people buy them up. In the dvd’s how many specail additions of movies do they put out? answer more then one. Same principle with the trek collective and collectible dvd series

They should release “The Unwatchable Collective” featuring the absolute worst episodes of all 5 series with MST3K-type audio commentaries! I just finished watching the VOY episode “Twisted” on Spike and it was one of the worst hours of any television — but also unitentionally hilarious. It could include from TOS “Way to Eden”, “Spock’s Brain” and “The Alternative Factor”, from TNG “Shades of Gray”, “Night Terrors”, “The Loss”, “Phantasms” and “Force of Nature”, from DS9 “If Wishes Were Horses” and “Profit and Lace”, from VOY “Twisted”, “Non Sequitor” and oh any episode from seasons 1-3 or 6-7, and from ENT anything from seasons 1 or 2.

With as many filmed hours there’s bound to be a handful of awful ones. Why not let CBS-Paramount make some more money by repackaging them? ;)

I’m an original-series fan, and at the moment I certainly can’t afford to buy any of the other series on DVD … so I was really, really glad to get all the Q episodes in one set, and all the essential Borg episodes in one set.

What I would really like to see now is a “Fan Collective” set devoted to TNG, DS9, VOY and, if applicable, ENT episodes that bring back characters from TOS. (The Sarek, Spock and Scotty episodes on TNG, the Klingon and Tribbles episodes on DS9, the Sulu episode on VOY, and any others that might not be occurring to me right now.)

Sounds good. How about a ROMULAN Collective?

#13 – I always thought that the best way to enhance TOS “Spock’s Brain” was to remaster the episode with 54 minutes of a black screen.

Do the TOS episodes in the collective come as regular or enhanced?

17: So far they have been the un-altered versions. I have all of the sets sitting next to me.

bring on the collectives! I want to see a “best of ” Horror themed /Thriller/Creepy episodes box sets with episodes like Catspaw- Wolf in the Fold- Night Terrors-Sub Rosa- Schisms- Eye of the Beholder- One- The Haunting of Deck 12- Impulse- Doctors Orders ect ect. I second the idea of a basic “best of” for each of the STAR TREK series. I especially want to see a “best of” for STAR TREK: Remastered- combining all the biggest n best FX episodes from all three seasons- with some featurettes about the remastering of the particular episodes and how they came to the decisions made with the new FX.

15, I completely agree with you. I’ve always been a fan of the Romulans and, while I like the Klingons, have felt that the Klingons got a little too much attention. I think that the Romulans deserve equal levels of attention. I would love to see a Romulan Fan Collective.

As a side note, StarTrek.com did a “Great Romulan Episodes” article and the number of episodes they had selected would be perfect for a Fan Collective. You can read the article at http://www.startrek.com . Move you cursor over the “Features” tab at the top of the page and click on “Specials” Once there go to the third page (using the slider) and click on the article titled “Great Romulan Episodes.”

I voted for this set (Alternate Realities) when it was announced on StarTrek.com and I’m glad to see that it is finally coming out! These would also be great sets for new or casual fans to buy who don’t want to buy whole seasons but only want the best episodes of the 700+ episode franchise.

19: I want to see a “best of” HD/remasterd collective for all of the shows.

DUCK! There’s a Cash-Cow being thrown at us!!!!

New Fan Collective DVD Set? This is odd, seeing that CBS came out with a box of all the Fan Collective DVD Sets last year.

I Think something is up!

My only thought is that maybe…. just maybe something has change about the new Star Trek.

I think this Fan Collective DVD Set MAY have a new trailer….just Maybe.

Alternate Realities?

I hope this means that the New Star Trek is the Alternate Reality rumor we heard about early this year and not The Time Travel.

If the New Star Trek is Alternate Reality of TOS I wlll see it. but, if it is a Re-writing history Re-vision of Star Trek, I will not.

I think An Alternate Reality of TOS is the right way to go and it sure make trek fans happy that it is not Re-writing history Rebooting Remake of Star Trek.

Hey J.J. and crew I hope you are doing An Alternate Reality of TOS.

#15: A Romulan collective

Interesting idea considering the Romulans are my favorite of the aliens, BUT I don’t think Rick Berman’s crew had a very good handle on the Romulans (especially thinking of NEMESIS… I just cannot buy into the Reman element of that story).

I’d be hard pressed to think of any episodes on NG, DS9 or ENT that match TOS’ “Balance of Terror” or “The Enterprise Incident.”

just my .02

#24… oops forgot to mention VOY…

although ST: VOY’s episode “Eye of the Needle” was pretty damn close to TOS quality.

#5. Anthony Pascale – May 29, 2008

all trek is real trek…don’t try and spark a my trek is better flame war.

It’s Okay Anthony. everybody’s entitled to their opinion, We’re big enough to take a few insults.

But if jmdiaz calls the Original “Enterprise” a Garbage scow, I’ll take Thier freakin’ head off.

A couple TNG episodes that would be perfect for a Romulan collective are:

Unification 1 & 2 The Defector Face of the Enemy

I know some of you see this as CBS just cashing in on Trek, but I love the Fan Collectives. I can’t convince my wife to let me spend tons of money on whole seasons and I don’t like most episodes. The Fan Collectives have given me a cheap way to only get the episodes of all the series that I like. I don’t like how some of the episodes are also found on others, but what can you do? A Borg set without “Endgame”, for example, is sad and so would a time travel set without it.

I still haven’t picked up Captains, but I’ll definitely pick up Alt Realities.

What a cool idea! When I was a kid, my local TV station used to show its syndicated TOS episodes in theme weeks like “I’ve Got a Crush on Kirk Week,” and “The Trouble with Doubles Week..” The ads for the week would be musical montages with approporiate clips and songs. It was great fun.

I know all of the other sets haven’t been the remastered episodes of TOS, so I wonder if this set will have the new ones on there. Interesting….

“It’s ok to cheat, if you just really don’t like to lose.”

I’m in; I love these sets. A great economical “alternative,” if you will, to buying whole season sets.

Click on ‘doubleofive’s’ name on post #27 for info. on fan editor ‘Adywan’s’ wonderful ‘Star Wars Revisited’ edit – A much improved version of the ‘Star Wars:A New Hope’ 2004 ‘Special Edition’ DVD….

Now, if only someone as talented as Adywan could do as well with the current ‘TOS Remastered’ episodes….

Re: #14 – I made this suggestion to Paramount about a year ago in some online poll they did about future Collectives. The only Collective I’d really be interested in buying would be one with the spin-off show episodes featuring TOS characters: Encounter at Farpoint, Sarek, Relics, Unification, Trials and Tribble-ations, Blood Oath, Flashback … are there others that would qualify?

RE: #28 – I’ve always thought it would be fun to host a local TV Trek show where you could do that: Everybody Dies Week! Spock’s in Love Week! You could talk about behind-the-scenes stuff, trivia, critique the episodes….

Scott B. out.

Here’s another idea: The Vaughn Armstrong Collective. Features every episode from all 5 series that Vaughn Armstrong guest-starred as a different character! There’s gotta be five discs worth of those.

“Fathers and Sons” would be a good theme, too – lots of good fodder there. You’d get more episodes with the more inclusive “Parents and Childre,” but that would be TOO many to choose from.

Paramount does have some merit in making these collectives, because before I had enough money to buy series, I was seriously considering these sets. Also, these are great little collections to take like, on vacation when you want to take trek, but only one one kind of trek.

And knowing Paramounts’ past stuff, I can expect Year of Hell on there, and Yesterday’s Enterprise. But considering that, that’s still only 10 episodes. I’d be interested to see what else they put on there (maybe a TNG episode where Data malfunctions, or a VGR episode with the Doc malfunctioning). And then there’s TNG’s The Game, which might be on there.

Also, if anyone knows, but isn’t there an episode of ENT where the crew is infected with some sort of virus and it’s only Phlox who manages to avoid it?

The Turnabout Intruder might be a good candidate too, although it isn’t exactly Kirk who goes haywire.

My guess for the episodes in the Alternate Realities Fan Collective…

TOS: “Alternative Factor”, “Mirror, Mirror” TNG: “Future Imperfect”, “The Inner Light”, “Parallels”, “Tapestry” DS9: “Crossover”, “:Through the Looking Glass”, “Shattered Mirror”, “Resurrection”, “The Emperor’s New Cloak”, “The Visitor” VOY: “Non Sequitur”, “Living Witness”, “Course: Oblivion”, “Workforce, Parts 1 and 2” ENT: “Twilight”, “In A Mirror, Darkly, Parts 1 and 2”

#27: You’re right about the three Romulan episodes.

I remember an NG episode (and the Romulans first appearance on NG) when Admiral Tomalak (hope I spelled that right) said so drolly (in Romulan fashion)…

“we… are… back.”

That sent shivvers down my spine!

and who can forget on DS9’s when Romulan Senator Vreenak proclaimed , “It’s a fake!!!!” ?

I generally do not like funny science fiction but… how about a fan collective of funny TREK episodes?

and I mean episodes that were MEANT to be humorous or whimsical– not funny because of stuidity (“Spock’s Brain,” for example)

“The Trouble With Tribbles, A Piece of the Action” and” I, Mudd (shut up, Stella dear!!!)” are hysterical!

DS9’s “Little Green Men” is another good candidate…

NG didn’t do humor very well… I hated HATED The Outrageous Okuda, a blatantly failed stab at humor.

Fellow fans would have to come up with more examples of TREK humor.

36. “I’d be interested to see what else they put on there (maybe a TNG episode where Data malfunctions, or a VGR episode with the Doc malfunctioning). And then there’s TNG’s The Game, which might be on there. Also, if anyone knows, but isn’t there an episode of ENT where the crew is infected with some sort of virus and it’s only Phlox who manages to avoid it? The Turnabout Intruder might be a good candidate too, although it isn’t exactly Kirk who goes haywire.”

How are any of those episodes Alternate Realities? Those are just episodes with characters acting irregularly. It’s more likely to include episodes like “Twilight”, “Mirror Mirror” (and the 5 DS9 and 2-part ENT Mirror Universe episodes), “Year of Hell 1&2”, “Yesterday’s Enterprise”, “Parallels”, “Living Witness”, “E2”, “Children of Time”, “Timeless”, maybe “Course:Oblivion”, “The Visitor”, “Non Sequitor”, “Tapestry”. That’s 21 episodes to choose from and there’s probably others. Of course many of these have already appeared in the Time Travel set.

39. “I hated HATED The Outrageous Okuda, a blatantly failed stab at humor.”

Ooh! Yeah, I forgot to add that one to my list for The Unwatchable Collective set! Truly awful on so many levels despite a whole bevy of recognizable guest stars.

39. …and it’s “Outrageous Okana” not Okuda! Fruedian slip, perhaps? I know we all have been raggin’ on the Okudas over their lackluster TOS-Remastered so I can see how it’d be easy to mix the two. :)

#38… um, now that I think about it, I don’t think it is was Tomalak making NG’s first Romulan appearance…. it was so long ago (and far far away)

43. It was Tebok in that episode, played by Marc Alaimo (Gul Dukat), not Tomalak. I think his first appearance was season 3’s “The Enemy”.

ENT’s episode 412-413 “Babel One” and “United” is a two-parter involving the Romulans secretly using drone ships to gin up wars between Earth, Tellar, Andoria, and the Rigelian Syndicate. Archer manages to weld all the suspicious factions into an alliance to destroy the drones. It’s very, very good Trek.

VOY: 107 “Eye of the Needle” was wonderful. The TNG “Unification” two-parter, I felt, was among the best Trek made.

A while back startrek.com ran a contest asking for suggestions on the Collective Series. I believe it was announced back then that the Mirror Universes would be the next in the series. I had wondered what had happened. Glad to see it finally being released. The Mirror Universe stories have always been some of my favorites.

I had suggested a series at the time…a Character Crossover Collection. I thought it was a pretty good idea. Who knows…maybe in the future. I forgot what the prize was for winning suggestions…lol…

A lot of the Lwaxana Troi episodes of TNG had a lot of intentional humor, although always with a serious B story.

At this point the Fan Collectives work for me brilliantly.

Beats plunking down 90 bucks per season!

Lessee, 90+/- bucks per season or 30 for a variety from all series?

Ding! 30 bucks wins out!

The defector moved me like no other trek episode since. That was some seriously good writing.

I wonder if they’ll come out with a Stinker Fan Collective.

Alternate Realities Check

All I can say about this set is, IT'S ABOUT BLOODY TIME!!!! This set has a lot good episodes dealing with alternate timelines in all five "Star Trek" series. One of the best is the "Enterprise" two-parter, "In a Mirror, Darkly", which tells how the Mirror Universe comes to power. Very well done. The worst part is the fact that only three of the DS9 Mirror Eps are included. My guess is that Paramount had to be fair and include four eps from each series, so I can't really complain. All told, it's a great set that ranks up there with the Borg Collective and Klingon sets.

original, authentic, and an great buy

I bought this set because I saw a couple of these shows back in the, well just back. WOW, there are more than I thought and I get to see all the different Star Trek spinoffs. I really like this. I like the fact that these are probable recorded from org. tapes. The reason I say this is because the spaces for the adds are there very short but there. five ***** easily

star trek alternate realities collective

One of the obvious pleasures of futuristic science fiction is the invitation to dream and imagine alongside the authors. What kind of society or societies will humanity create? What choices and events might lead us to fashion such worlds? Can I live in this future or would I prefer not to?

At its core, Star Trek offers an optimistic view of the human species: different races, ethnicities, and genders working together in harmony; humans working alongside those from other planets; science and technology deployed to eliminate material want; human society dedicated to the exploration of the self and the universe. It’s a charming, sort of 19th century naïve Marxist or anarchist view of the future.

Perhaps in recognition of the inherent limits to such an outlook, or maybe just in acknowledgment that speculation lies at the heart of what makes Star Trek appealing, the franchise’s creators and producers have always chosen to experiment with detours for their characters, transposing them, and sometimes the universe, into radically different circumstances from what they, and the audience, know. The Alternate Realities Collective compiles a selection of these episodes from the franchise’s five series.

The episodes are grouped into four categories: “Mirror Universe”, which includes six installments taken from The Original Series (TOS), Deep Space Nine (DS9), and Enterprise , all springing from TOS’ “Mirror, Mirror”; “Parallel Dimensions”, the smallest selection at two episodes, one from TOS and one from The Next Generation (TNG); “Twisted Realities”, which collects four episodes from TOS, TNG, and Voyager ; and “Alternate Lives”, the largest category at eight episodes, including at least one from each of the post-TOS shows.

As exemplified by “Yesterday’s Enterprise” and “The Inner Light”, both from TNG and both included in “Alternate Lives”, the very best of these selections are character-driven, with a focus on exploring how series regulars would act and react if either they lived different lives, and were, therefore, essentially different people, or the circumstances of the universe shifted while they remained unchanged (sometimes, as in “The Inner Light”, both of these alternatives are posited).

“Yesterday’s Enterprise” is “high Trek ” at its best, posing big questions, and addressing matters related to canon, but doing so in ways that are grounded in hard, concrete choices that characters have to make. Here the tough choices are made by Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and another Enterprise Captain, Rachel Garrett (Tricia O’Neil).

The set up here is simple and classic science fiction: a rift opens in space-time, allowing the Enterprise-C, commanded by Garrett, to enter the reality of Picard’s Enterprise-D, thereby changing the historical trajectory for the contemporary ship and its crew. Specifically, the older Enterprise has exited its own space-time in a crucial moment for Federation-Klingon relations, one where Garrett and her crew demonstrate valor and sacrifice on behalf of a Klingon outpost under attack by Romulans.

Responding to alarms raised by Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg), Picard entertains the idea that the Enterprise-C needs to be sent back to “its” timeline in the hopes that completing its fight alongside the Klingons will avert a protracted war between that species’ Empire and the Federation.

Little time is spent on the physics behind this scenario, with a preference given to debate over the implications of different choices. Most tellingly, Picard ultimately favors sending the Enterprise-C back through the spatio-temporal rift in no small measure because the war is not going well for the Federation. He also sends Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby) with the older ship because Guinan insists that in the reality where the older ship completed its fight, she dies a meaningless death (see “Skin of Evil” from TNG, season one). Yar decides that this is a chance to change her story.

There is little pretense in “Yesterday’s Enterprise” that any of the decisions regarding how to resolve the sudden appearance of the Enterprise-C, or how to regard Guinan’s insistence on the wrongness of things, are easy. Nor are they reduced to their scientific or technological dimensions. These questions are ultimately, and somewhat radically, regarded as one of consequences. On the one hand, the chosen course of action works to restore normality to Trek as we know it, with only Guinan, initially at least, any the wiser. However, the decision to send Tasha Yar into the relative past ends up having unintended consequences that are revealed later in TNG, starting with season four’s “The Mind’s Eye”.

Whereas “Yesterday’s Enterprise” invokes the fate of species and governments, as well as those of individuals, “The Inner Light” is a more intimate character study.

After the Enterprise encounters an alien probe, Picard is “transported” to a planet where he learns to live the life of an adult male of another, albeit very human-like, species. The episode spends most of its time with the Enterprise captain as he adjusts to his new identity, though without ever losing his memory of being Picard. At the conclusion, the probe is revealed to have been a device through which the residents of the alien planet, Kataan, hoped to have their existence preserved through an encounter with someone who could carry their culture into the future and share it with others long after their planet was destroyed by a supernova.

This is a remarkably affecting episode, and one that places the idea of alternate realities in highly personal terms, not to mention highlighting the value of having an actual Shakespearean actor in the lead role (just watch TOS’ “Turnabout Intruder” in the “Twisted Realities” section for comparison and you’ll see what I mean).

If “Yesterday’s Enterprise” and “The Inner Light” show the best of what this collection has to offer, then Voyager ‘s “Course: Oblivion”, also from “Alternate Lives”, is an example of the worst.

As the episode begins, Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill) and B’Elanna Torres (Roxann Dawson) are being wed, and life seems fine, until the traditional wedding rice is shown falling through the floor and the lower decks of Voyager begin to go all wonky. Not long after, B’Elanna falls sick and dies. Eventually, Chakotay (Robert Beltran) and Tuvok (Tim Russ) figure out that Voyager and its crew are not actually Voyager and its crew at all, but copies made from a “bio-mimetic” substance, the “silver blood” from season four’s “Demon”. They reason that the crew and the ship are starting to suffer from inhospitable environmental conditions in space. They need to return home, or reach some other “Class Y” planet where they might be able to halt their disintegration.

Once it is revealed that the ship and crew are copies, the personal stakes in the outcome of the episode are severely diminished. The audience is left to identify not with the characters they know, but with some idea or after-image of those characters. That leaves the big questions about what it means to be human (or maybe what it means to be sentient in a more general sense; it isn’t clear). Judging from the decisions made by duplicate Katherine Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), the answer to such questions appears to be, “It means to irrationally commit to a single purpose regardless of evidence suggesting that this is stupid”. As the title of the episode indicates, the duplicate Voyager and its crew dissipate, but not before almost making contact with the “real” ship and its people.

“Course: Oblivion” ends with original Janeway making a note of the other ship’s apparent but mysterious destruction and ordering her Voyager to continue on course. This moment is seemingly meant to be weighted with some kind of poignancy, but falters on the utter pointlessness of the preceding forty-four or so minutes, a pointlessness compounded by an over-reliance on eye rolling faux science and technobabble about Class Y “demon planets” and bio-mimetic fluids for the premise. The elegance, emotional impact, and profundity to be found in “Yesterday’s Enterprise” and “The Inner Light” are absent here.

The remaining episodes in “Alternate Realities” fall somewhere between the highs of these examples from TNG and the lows in the offering from Voyager . Of those other selections, the ones collected into the “Mirror Universe” category are likely to be of the widest interest to fans. This is the only set-within-the-set based on a common point of reference, the aforementioned “Mirror, Mirror”, an episode made famous by Spock’s (Leonard Nimoy) line, “It was far easier for you as civilized men to behave like barbarians than it was for them as barbarians to behave like civilized men”.

The set up for this category is that there is a matching, but turned around, alternate reality to “ours”. Hence, “mirror universe”. In that reality, as suggested by Spock, the Enterprise, instead of belonging to a civilized Federation, is part of a barbarous Empire. By way of a transporter incident, James Kirk (William Shatner), Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley), Scotty (James Doohan), and Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), switch places with their mirror universe doppelgangers. They must negotiate their way amongst the barbarians while looking for a way to return to “their” universe, and do likewise for their opposites, who, being uncivilized, are immediately apprehended and locked up when they appear on the “wrong” Enterprise.

The idea of a mirror-image is more difficult to sustain than it might seem at first. After all, what does it mean for someone to be themselves, but also not themselves? In truth, the conceit is inconsistently carried out even in “Mirror, Mirror”. For example, while the Federation is now an evil Empire, the “Halkans”, from whom both Enterprises are tasked to secure dilithium crystals, the fictional element needed for warp drive, are committed pacifists in both realities. Similarly, Spock remains largely the same, the crucial difference being not his own character, but the social rules of the universe in which he applies his oft-cited logic.

The mirror universe idea next appears in DS9, and it is in this series that this particular alternate reality is developed the furthest. Indeed, the episodes included in the collection, “Crossover”, “Through the Looking Glass”, and “Shattered Mirror”, represent only a partial run of relevant offerings.

DS9, already more gray than TOS or TNG when it comes to the Federation, sets aside the opposite number notion inherent in the original concept, and instead presents alternate versions of familiar characters, but not ones that necessarily complete some binary idea of who they are. Enabling this more open-ended way of presenting the mirror universe is the incorporation of the scenario implied in the original episode, which is that the Empire eventually fades away following its transformation by a peace-seeking Spock. Much like individual characters, then, the mirror universe is not so much a turned around reflection, but simply a different reality.

Ultimately, the idea of multiple “mirror” universes is more consistent with the implications of other episodes in the “Alternate Realities Collective” than is the dualistic premise of “Mirror, Mirror” (in addition to “Yesterday’s Enterprise”, key references from the set include: TOS’ “The Alternative Factor”, TNG’s “Parallels”, and Voyager ‘s “Timeless”). It is also more in line with the post-Cold War context of the later series. Indeed, in that vein, it’s difficult not to notice how often the included episodes from TOS are based on binary oppositions between realities and forms of character.

The two part “In a Mirror Darkly” from Enterprise starts with a fun idea, treat the mirror universe as the universe of the show, complete with alternate opening credits, but falls short of that initial promise. Most problematically, the episodes seem to have been conceived and written with little regard to what they might imply for “Mirror, Mirror” or DS9. One can, of course, wish away questions about timelines by arguing for the obvious multiplicity of realities in the Trek storyworld, but that’s a weak reason for ignoring glaring dilemmas regarding continuity, especially when there’s little to be done about such matters.

The extras in the “Alternate Realities Collective” include short features for each category of episodes, and a few, seemingly random, commentary tracks. In all, only five of the set’s 20 offerings have commentaries, all from behind the camera contributors.

As alluded to above, this collection is hardly complete in its documentation of alternate realities in Star Trek . Fans of the various series will likely have their own picks for important exclusions. For myself, I had hoped to find TNG’s “Clues” from season four and “Cause and Effect” from season five (the latter can be found in the “Time Travel Fan Collective”, but so is “Yesterday’s Enterprise”). While these cross-series DVD sets are no doubt largely directed at the established fan base, the better episodes included in the “Alternate Realities Collective” rely on widely circulated tropes of speculative science fiction, making them accessible to non-fans, and representing the franchise well.

All things considered, the Alternate Realities Collective is a solid bunch of episodes. Some all-time classics are here, and if you're a Trek fan then the episode titles will speak for themselves. A couple of weaker episodes are scattered throughout the set, but overall there are some of the greatest highlights from each series included here.

This collection covers all the mirror universe and alternate reality episodes from all the Star Trek series. Of course it leads off with "Mirror, Mirror" from TOS where a goateed evil Spock is the main attraction.

FIFTEEN HOURS. Fifteen hours' worth of Star Trek. I was unfamiliar with some of the episodes (and honestly some of them haven't aged well. The Alternative Factor in particular feels very dated when you're used to alternate reality stories in Star Trek, but as the first time the story was done you can really see how far they've come) but it's a very good collection.

10 best three cabin/stateroom sailboats for under $200,000.

There is a great discussion on a Cruisers Forum thread where the fellow is looking for a three stateroom sailboat for a reasonable price. I thought I would add to and distill the information there. The below list consists ten of the best live aboard, bluewater sailboats for a family with children that needs three staterooms. Such a family usually has a budget of between $100,000 to $200,000. They have some sailing experience including chartering, lake racing, and maybe owning a smaller sailboat in the 30 to 40 foot range. They need an extra stateroom or two so their children can have their own space while cruising. This necessarily will push the yacht into the 45 to 55 foot length range.

This price and accommodations plan is somewhat of an elusive find. Especially, the three stateroom, center cockpit nearing $100,000 is a sailboat in high demand. I have tried to avoid pirate ships like a Force 50 which I do not consider attractive to the mainstream clientele. Most of the options below have standard fin keel and skeg rudder underbodies for normal performance. Please comment below with any suggested additions or subtractions. I have listed the sailboats in alphabetical order of brand name.

  • Amel Super Maramu 53 : Nuanced design of French yard Amel. Has a third berth along the walkthrough, so really is more of a two stateroom design. Likely priced over $200,000.
  • Beneteau Idylle 51 : One of the older, classic Beneteaus that had a heavier build. Is an aft cockpit design which does not separate the living quarters as well as in a center cockpit.
  • Gulfstar 50 : Vince Lazzara design. There are both Mark I versions with two staterooms and Mark II versions with three. These are getting a bit old. Forerunner of the 47′ Stevens design.
  • Hylas 47 : Sparkman & Stephens design skill and Queen Long quality. Early ones were called Stevens 47’s. Hylas later extended the design to become a 49-footer.
  • Irwin 52 : Roomy Ted Irwin design with raised quarterdeck and classic styling.
  • Morgan 51 Out Island : The Morgan 51 OI is a lot of boat for the usual price of near $100,000. Ketch rig.
  • Passport 51 : This older Stan Huntington design is heavily built with a third bunk berth stateroom.
  • Taswell 49 : Ta Shing build and Bill Dixon design. Comes in a deck saloon version. Is on the higher end of the price range.
  • Tayana 47 : Robert Perry design which comes in two and three stateroom versions. Was extended to become the Tayana 48.
  • Vagabond 47 : This is an older, classic build and design. Maintaining the teak on deck is a long-term effort. If you like the Vagabond 47, you could look at other character boats like the CT 54, Force 50, and Mikelson 51.

You can get a Amel 55 with three state rooms if you have the stearn master state room split in two.

NASCAR at Texas odds, predictions: Model shares surprising 2024 EchoPark Automotive 400 picks, leaderboard

Sportsline racing model simulated the 2024 echopark automotive 400 at texas motor speedway 10,000 times and revealed its projected nascar leaderboard.

3 cabin motorboat

It has been a tough season for Ford in the NASCAR Cup Series. As we head towards the ninth race on the NASCAR schedule, there's only one Ford sitting top 12 in the NASCAR standings. They'll try to change that at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday when the green flag drops on the 2024 EchoPark Automotive 400 at 3:30 p.m. ET. Ford is still winless on the season, while Toyota has won three times and Chevrolet leads the way with five wins after William Byron's victory in Martinsville last week.

Byron is the first driver to reach three wins on the season, but teammate Kyle Larson is the 4-1 favorite in the 2024 EchoPark Automotive 400 odds. Byron is priced at 7-1 in the 2024 NASCAR at Texas odds along with Denny Hamlin, who has two wins this season, and Tyler Reddick is second in the Texas NASCAR odds at 6-1. Before making any 2024 NASCAR at Texas predictions, be sure to  see the latest 2024 EchoPark Automotive 400 picks from SportsLine's proven projection model .

Developed by daily Fantasy pro and SportsLine predictive data engineer Mike McClure, this proprietary NASCAR prediction model simulates every race 10,000 times, taking into account factors such as track history and recent results.

McClure's model was red-hot in 2023, nailing Martin Truex Jr.'s Clash win (20-1) as well as his win in New Hampshire (11-2), Joey Logano's Duel win (8-1), Kyle Busch's Fontana victory (10-1), Denny Hamlin's triumph in Kansas (6-1) and Kyle Larson's wins at Martinsville (6-1) and the NASCAR All-Star Race (13-2). The model correctly predicted winners in two of the playoff races as well, with Ryan Blaney scoring a 12-1 payout at Talladega and Larson winning at 9-2 in Las Vegas.

Then it called its first winner of the 2024 season with Larson in Las Vegas for a 21-5 payout and predicted Hamlin's wins in Bristol at 5-1 and Richmond at 17-4. It also impressively nailed five of Larson's wins during his historic season in 2021. All told, the model has nailed a whopping 18 winners since 2021, including nine last year and three in the first seven races this season. Anyone who followed its lead on those NASCAR picks saw huge returns.

Now, the model simulated the 2024 EchoPark Automotive 400 10,000 times. Head to SportsLine to see the complete projected NASCAR at Texas leaderboard .

Top 2024 EchoPark Automotive 400 predictions

For the 2024 EchoPark Automotive 400, the model is high on Ty Gibbs, even though he's a 16-1 longshot in the latest 2024 NASCAR at Texas odds. He's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The 2021 ARCA Menards Series champion and 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion earned NASCAR Rookie of the Year honors in his first full season in the NASCAR Cup Series, collecting 10 top-10 finishes and ending the year 18th in the standings while racing for his grandfather at Joe Gibbs Racing.

Gibbs is now 21 years old and he's seventh in the NASCAR standings after eight races thanks to three top-fives and five top-10s on the season. He finished 10th in Atlanta despite starting the race in 25th position and was fifth in Las Vegas, so he has a solid 1.5-mile setup to work with.

Another massive shocker: Ryan Blaney, the defending NASCAR Cup Series champion and one of the top Vegas favorites, stumbles big-time and barely cracks the top 10. There are far better values in the 2024 Texas NASCAR starting lineup. After six years of making the NASCAR playoffs but never finishing better than seventh in the standings, Blaney broke through for his first championship last season.

Now he's fifth entering the ninth race of the season but he's finished outside of the top 10 in three of his last four races. He's also winless in 15 career NASCAR Cup Series starts at Texas Motor Speedway, including a 28th-place finish there last season after a crash. Only two of Blaney's 10 career wins have come on 1.5-mile speedways and he's a driver to avoid this weekend.  See which other drivers to avoid and the rest of the projected NASCAR leaderboard at SportsLine .

How to make 2024 NASCAR at Texas picks

The model is also targeting two other drivers with 2024 NASCAR at Texas odds longer than 14-1 to make a serious run at the checkered flag. Anyone who backs these drivers could hit it big. You can see all of the model's NASCAR picks over at SportsLine .

So who wins the EchoPark Automotive 400 2024, and which longshots are a must-back? Check out the latest 2024 NASCAR at Texas odds below, then visit SportsLine now to see the full projected 2024 NASCAR at Texas leaderboard, all from the model that has nailed 18 winners .

Lufthansa and cabin crew union reach a pay deal to end string of German aviation disputes

BERLIN (AP) — Lufthansa and a union representing cabin crew reached a pay deal Thursday, concluding the last of several major disputes that have led to recent strikes at Germany’s biggest airline and in the country’s wider aviation sector.

The UFO union said nearly 19,000 cabin crew will get a pay rise effectively totaling 17.4% in three stages under the three-year deal, plus a one-time payment of 3,000 euros ($3,240) per person to offset inflation. Some bonuses also will be increased.

The union, which originally sought a 15% increase over an 18-month period, will put the deal to a ballot of its members. Its deal with Lufthansa doesn’t include staff at two company subsidiaries, Cityline and Discover, where talks are ongoing.

Last month, the Ver.di union secured a pay raise totaling an average 12.5% over two years for some 25,000 Lufthansa ground staff following an arbitration process. There will be bigger raises for some lower earners.

Earlier this week, a separate dispute involving security staff at most major German airports and their employers was resolved. That deal, also reached after arbitration, foresees raises totaling 13.1% to 15.1% over 15 months.

All three disputes led to strikes in recent months that caused widespread flight cancelations.

The disruption was compounded by lengthy strikes caused by a simultaneous dispute between Germany’s main railway operator, Deutsche Bahn, and a union representing many of its train drivers. That was resolved last month with a deal that will see the working week of drivers and some other personnel reduced from 38 hours to 35 by 2029 without having their pay cut. They will have an option to work longer for more money.
