St. Martin is a small island, but it's packed with plenty of things to do and places to see. The island is known for its award-winning restaurants, mega-resorts, international shopping, cafes, and bistros, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere. But only a stone's throw away from the busy streets are beautiful natural scenery and crystalline blue waters that are just waiting to be enjoyed. Thus, a yacht charter in St. Martin is truly one of the best ways to enjoy the island. And with an abundance of itineraries, chartering a yacht is not just an option in St. Martin, but it is a necessary must!

What are yacht charter prices in St Martin?

You can choose from simple monohulls to take you from one beach to another, or a sailing catamaran cruising along the coast, or a superyacht that acts like its very own cruising resort. Whatever fits your fancy, you can find a luxury boat in St. Martin. For prices, an average 45-foot monohull for a group of 6 adults can cost around $2,500 per day, while a catamaran of the same size can cost around $4,200 per day. When is the yachting season in St Martin?

There are two seasons in St. Martin; one is the dry season and the other is the wet season. The wet season is from June to November, as it also falls under the hurricane season, while the dry season is from December to May, making it the ideal yachting season in St. Martin.

With an abundance of beaches and bays, one full day of chartering around St. Martin is simply not enough, but if you only have time for 6 to 8 hours of cruising, then a full day yacht charter is perfect for getting a little taste of everything on the island. A typical yacht charter for a day takes you to nearby beaches and bays, with swimming, snorkeling, diving, or paddleboarding some of the activities you can experience. If you're traveling as a family, Friar's Bay is for you. It has gentle waters and swimmable waves, perfect for kids to swim in the shore.

If you fancy an adults-only beach, head over to Orient Bay where clothing is optional on the white sand beach of this vibrant area. Alternatively, if you fancy visiting one location with multiple sites, visit Cupecoy Beach with 3 beaches surrounded by limestone cliffs. It is also the last beach before crossing the border to the Dutch region of the island. To end your day on a full-day yacht charter, sip some rum on the deck as you view the beautiful sunset on the horizon.

St Martin yacht charter overnight

An overnight yacht charter is truly a romantic and exciting adventure in St. Martin. From Marigot, the capital, head to Anse Marcel, which is a tropical dream beach known for its upscale class bars and restaurants, perfect for couples and families. From there, head to Pinel Island, a charming, tiny island on the north edge of St. Martin, located on the Marine Park and offers calm, turquoise waters. Anchor here for the night and enjoy watching the stars from the deck.

Come morning, you can head to Le Galion Beach or also known as Coconut Grove, which is found southeast of Orient Bay. It has a laid back atmosphere and surrounded by a coral reef, making it perfect for diving and snorkeling. It is also a favorite spot among surfers, windsurfers, and kitesurfers. Head back to Marigot and watch the sunset before docking in the marina.

St Martin yacht charter for a week

Do you have more time on your hands? And do you want to experience the true beauty of St. Martin and its surrounding islands? Then hop onboard your yacht charter for a full week liveaboard adventure. Here is a sample itinerary for your St. Martin one week liveaboard adventure:

Day 1: Grand Case

This small village to the north of Marigot is the gourmet capital of the Caribbean. It would be a shame if you visited St. Martin and did not set foot in this village. Indulge in a French or decadent Creole-inspired meal and stroll around the village, shopping for bread, pastries, and rum. In the afternoon, you can head to Creole Rock for an hour or two of snorkeling, then head back to your yacht to enjoy your first night in the water.

Day 2: Orient Bay

A two-hour cruise will bring you to Orient Bay, a famous beach for its clothing-optional dress code. If you're traveling with kids, you might want to skip this bay and head to Tintamarre instead, where you can have lunch on a white-sand beach and snorkel in shallow waters.

Day 3: Gustavia

Visit the island of St. Barths, which is dubbed as the Caribbean's version of St. Tropez. Shop in the designer boutiques, enjoy a cup of coffee in any of the cafes and enjoy French pastries and snacks in any of the bistros. In the afternoon, head to Colombier beach where a secluded bay is yours for the night.

Day 4: Philipsburg

Cruise for 2 hours and head your way to the capital of St. Martin's Dutch region. This bustling town has a cosmopolitan appeal with its duty-free shopping, chic boutiques, and vibrant nightlife. A must-visit is Front Street, which is a mile-long street filled with designer shops and boutiques.

Day 5: Road Bay, Anguilla

Cruise for one hour, and you'll arrive at one of the most popular anchorages in the Leeward Islands. Road Bay is a laid back and vibrant place, filled with bars and resorts on the waterfront, and home to 7 shipwrecks, making the bay the wreck diving capital of the Caribbean.

Day 6: Crocus Bay, Anguilla

Swim, snorkel, and dive the caves and reefs in this bay, then after lunch, make your way to Prickly Pear Cay, with its white sand beach and colorful reefs teeming with marine life. After lunch, on Day 7, cruise for a couple of hours before you arrive and disembark in Marigot.

Saint Maarten is split between France and the Netherlands, with the French side occupying the northern 60% of the island and the Dutch occupying the remaining southern portion of the island. Your flight into the island will arrive at Princess Juliana airport on the Dutch side – be sure to wave at all the crowds on Maho beach!

Most of the nightlife is situated on the Dutch side of the island, including the casinos. The French side is quieter, and more tranquil, with more of a European feel to it. The Dutch side has assumed a more cosmopolitan vibe.

St Maarten activities

You can also come ashore and enjoy all the island has to offer. For the more adventurous there is parasailing, skydiving, scuba diving, hiking and biking. Philipsburg

Philipsburg comprises four parallel streets a mile long squeezed into the narrow piece of land between Great Bay and the salt pond. This is the capital of the Dutch side of St Maarten. Here you will find endless duty-free shopping and lively bars on Front Street, as well as an up-market casino. This is where the cruise ships offload their guests and as such there is plenty to offer here.

Yacht charters starting in Philipsburg will depart from the picturesque Bobby’s Marina, started by Bobby himself in 1968.

Simpson Bay Lagoon

Many of the charter yachts are based out of the marinas in Simpson Bay Lagoon. Surrounding the marinas, you will find many options for eating ashore and enjoying the vibrant nightlife on offer. Simpson Bay is only a short 10-minute taxi ride from Princess Juliana airport.

Marigot is the capital of the French side of St Maarten and another center for charter yachts. With its abundance of shopping, good eats, public markets, and cultural sites, it makes for a good stop on any charter, even if you don’t start your trip here. Marigot provides a scenic and protected anchorage.

10 Best Anchorages & Spots to Visit in St Maarten

The island of Tintamarre is a short 3NM hop from the NE side of St Maarten. The island is now uninhabited, but you will still see some evidence of it having been lived on previously. Now though, you will have the island to yourself to relax and enjoy. The island provides perfect opportunities for swimming and snorkeling.

Orient Bay is one of the busiest beaches on the island, and for good reason. The pristine powdery white sand and clear blue water makes it one of the biggest attractions on the island. The vibe at Orient Bay is incredible with many people enjoying the restaurants, bars, and beach activities. There is also a naturist end of the beach for those who like their suntans without any lines.

From your anchorage, you will enjoy marvellous sunsets with a view out towards Anguilla island and Creole rock. During the day, the long sandy beach is ideal for swimming, lazy walks and snorkelling. Grand Case also has some good shopping and fine restaurants from which to choose.

A small island situated on the north east side of St Maarten, this is the tropical paradise that locals like to frequent. Pinel is very laid back with plenty of beach bars from which to choose. This is the perfect destination for yacht charters as the island is inaccessible other than by boat, and as a nature preservation area no one is allowed to stay ashore overnight.

No trip to St Maarten is complete without a visit to the Sunset Bay & Grill at Maho beach, where you will see jets right up close landing and taking off from the international airport.

Gustavia - St. Barts

Any sail over to St Barts would not be complete without a visit to the capital. High-end shopping opportunities abound for all the cruise ships and megayachts that hang out in St Barts. Or you can get away from it all and go visit one of the forts with beautiful views overlooking the harbour.

Anse de Colombier - St Barts

A beautifully protected bay far from the crowds of St Barts, this is a wonderful anchorage for snorkelling, sealife, or just hanging out in your hammock aboard.

Baie Longue

They don’t call this Baie Longue (Long Bay) for nothing. The white sandy beach stretches miles south towards the Dutch side of the island. The bay is nicely protected from the trade winds reducing the waves to a nice quiet lapping against the sand. The perfect location for viewing the sunset over Saba island to the west.

The bay gets its name from the slightly pinkish sand that colors the otherwise white sandy beach. This is a beautiful, calm, and secluded beach to relax and take a break from it all. On the western side of St Maarten, it has a view out to neighboring Anguilla. Anchor in the bay and swim in the crystal clear waters.

Friar's Bay

Friar’s Bay is a quiet bay on the west side of the island. This is a very laid-back, relaxed, family-orientated beach. The two existing beach bars put on fun theme nights which are always a hit. Come and enjoy some cocktails at the bar whilst enjoying the sunset.

After Ravaging Eastern Caribbean, Hurricane Beryl Moves Toward Jamaica

The storm, now a Category 4 hurricane, left extreme damage in its wake as it headed toward Jamaica.

Hurricane Beryl was barreling west toward Jamaica as a Category 4 storm on Tuesday, a day after it carved a trail of destruction across the southeast Caribbean and killed at least four people, officials said.

Beryl strengthened into a Category 5 storm late Monday, meaning it had maximum sustained winds of at least 157 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center of the United States. It was forecast to bring hurricane conditions to Jamaica on Wednesday.

Major Atlantic hurricanes have maximum sustained winds of 111 m.p.h. or higher on a five-tier scale that was developed in the 1970s. By Tuesday morning, Beryl had sustained winds near 165 m.p.h., the National Hurricane Center said.

No Atlantic storm has ever grown to Category 5 strength this early in the season, according to Philip Klotzbach , a Colorado State University meteorologist who specializes in tropical cyclones. By Tuesday afternoon, the storm had been downgraded slightly to a Category 4.

Hurricane Beryl Strengthens to Category 5

It’s 10 a.m., and now it’s Part II. The floods are coming in.

On Tuesday, the streets of Kingston, Jamaica’s capital, were filled with people hurrying to gather last-minute supplies. The bustling supermarkets were crammed with patrons, and many people waited in long lines at A.T.M.s.

“It’s better to have it and don’t want it, than want it and don’t have it,” said Saeed Pottinger, 37, who was getting extra medication, food and other supplies for his mother.

Bumper-to-bumper traffic on major city routes started as early as 9 a.m. “In every direction you turn, pretty much, it’s a gridlock,” said Leiska Powell, the emergency services manager with the Jamaica Red Cross.

The situation was expected to get worse as most businesses announced that they would close at noon. Prime Minister Andrew Holness of Jamaica also ordered the shutting of all government offices except for essential services.

Jamaica’s two main airports — Norman Manley International in Kingston, and Sangster International in Montego Bay — were to close Tuesday night, the airports’ operators announced.

The storm surge accompanying Beryl is expected to raise water levels by up to eight feet along Jamaica’s coast on Wednesday. Flash flooding is also a concern as the storm brings up to 12 inches of rain.

The country’s main electricity provider, Jamaica Public Service, has advised Jamaicans to be prepared for power outages. Mr. Holness urged citizens in low-lying areas, especially along the southern coast, where Beryl is expected to pass, to evacuate.

“I quite understand that people don’t want to leave their property; but the most important thing is your life,” he said at a news conference this week.

On Monday, Beryl roared across several Caribbean islands, and four deaths were later reported in Grenada, Carriacou and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The storm made landfall on Carriacou, a small island north of Grenada, on Monday morning and “flattened” it in just half an hour, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of Grenada said in a briefing broadcast on social media. Government officials also expected “extreme” damage on the neighboring island of Petite Martinique.

During a briefing Tuesday, an official said 95 percent of roofs and housing on Carriacou and Petite Martinique had been lost.

The complete scale of the destruction on Carriacou and Petite Martinique, which have a combined population of roughly 6,000 people, would not be clear until later on Tuesday, officials said. There was no power on either island, and communication was difficult.

One death was reported in Grenada’s capital, St. George’s, after a tree fell on a house. “This hits home,” Mr. Mitchell said. “The deceased person is in fact the relative of one of the persons who spent the last 36 hours with us here at the National Emergency Operating Center.”

Just north of Carriacou, several islands in St. Vincent and the Grenadines also suffered “immense destruction,” Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves said in a social media briefing. One death was reported, and hundreds of homes, schools and churches were severely damaged, he said.

An estimated 90 percent of houses on Union Island had been severely damaged or destroyed, and similar levels of destruction were expected on the islands of Mayreau and Canouan, Mr. Gonsalves said.

Beryl, the first Atlantic hurricane of the season, left a trail of destruction in its path as it made landfall: trees snapped in half, an extensive storm surge and roofs blown off as winds reached more than 150 miles per hour .

The hurricane was an anomaly in what is already an unusually busy storm season, which extends until the end of November. When it developed into a Category 4 storm on Sunday, it was the third major hurricane ever in the Atlantic Ocean in June — and the first time a Category 4 materialized this early there in the season.

The storm was also historic for the short time it took to strengthen from a tropical depression to a major hurricane — 42 hours — a direct result of above-average sea surface temperatures. The quick escalation was a feat recorded only six other times in Atlantic hurricane history.

Officials in Barbados said on Monday that the island had been spared the worst of Beryl.

The prime minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, told a nationwide broadcast from the island’s emergency operations center that as many as 20 fishing boats, including two popular cruisers, had possibly sunk. Still, she added, “This could have been far worse for us.”

Because of an editing error, an earlier version of this article said storm surge in St. Lucia caused significant damage to fishing vessels, sank at least 20 boats and damaged homes. This happened in Barbados, not St. Lucia.
